Amazing teacher, very helpfull, very broad course. Tests very resonable
effort needed in this class to pass, but good presentation, can be boaring
Good course, lots of topics, easy to follow!
Oral exams are very oral and not too brief!!!
This guy is easy to understand in class, but you get to the tes, and you get your mark back, and you don't know what the heck he wants. He also has some sort of speech impediment that gets really annoying...HE SHOVED 8 TIMBITS IN HIS MOUTH, DURING CLASS!
Didn't study one minute and still got a B+ so its not too hard. Classes are kind of boring when he lectures but he is always available to explain something during office hours. His most impressive feat was fitting 8 timbits in his mouth during class!
What am amazing teacher. If all teachers were like his students would be more motivated to learn. Tests are hard, but wake up, your in college now. the timbits were the best moment in a class ever, we had a fun class, and he knows it!
awesome teacher. he loves geography. loves talking about his soon to be born baby if you ask. tests are hard, paper and presentation easy. easy 15% for attendance but go to class a lot of what he says is on the exam. pay attention, awesome guy.
He's a new teacher and he might get better with time, but I found he uses really big university vocabulary for a fist year intro college course and therefore can be confusing. All you who want to sleep and still get credit, this class is for you.
Very clear notes, Always there when you want anything to be clear up (on or off class), He tells you want is expected for the test. But you HAVE to study! it is not a sleeper's class
Nice guy, clear notes. But you have to study in his class to get a good mark
AWESOME teacher! Probably the best geography teacher at Kwantlen. Show up for classes & do his question sheets & you should get an awesome mark. Super nice, helpful, & fair. You know exactly what is going to be on the tests & they are non-cummulative
a very nice and helpful guy. but you have to study his notes in order to get a better mark.
very nice and understanding person...clear and concise notes...gives u question sheets before exams...if u know the question sheets, u'll get a good mark....i highly recommend him...the best geography instructor at kuc
I'll never forget this class. Awesome teacher. Highly recommend him...very helpful and fair. YOu have to write a lot on the short-answer tests but it's not so bad. I wish I could take him again.
Talks a lot. Very precise 10 min breaks. Explains things clearly. Tests NOT cumulative. Helpful exam prep sheets. Do them, study off them and you'll do fine on exams. No projects, one review essay. Easy 15% for essay.
John explains everything clearly, he gives out study guides which tell you almost exactly what is on the tests. Tests fairly easy. good teacher.
I really like John and would efinitely take more of his classes if possible. He gives study guides out before tests which tell you basically everything that will be on the test. Overall he's just a really nice guy.
pretty boring class. pretty boring prof
John is a very helpful teacher. The tests are fair. He always gives out preparation sheets before tests. And notes are very clear too. And nice guy overall.
nice guy...just study for tests, he's really approachable if you need help
so nice and helpful!!
This guy is so nice and if you just do what he asks you'll get a wicked mark. Gave me 100% on the term paper because I "followed the instructions perfectly". Interesting course too.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! He is an easy marker who is not afraid to give an A+ when students deserve it (unlike some teachers). Expectations are clearly defined. Very helpful prep sheets for exams. No reason not to get an A in this class!
John was not a bad teacher but he had a very annoying habit of saying "if you will" after just about everything. The test prep sheets are a good idea as are having non-cumulative tests. I didn't find the course material thrilling, but John did o
easy B if not A in any of his classes. He knows his stuff and hes clear about the tests, just a little dry thats all, hes a junior teacher!
Great prof! would definitely take another course w/him. Lectures are very clear, and easy to understand. Do worksheets thoroughly and you'll do well. Didn't think the course was boring.
What an easy course. This guy is really helpful and actually gives study guides for his exams. He gave me 100% on the term paper because I "followed the directions perfectly". Course couldn't be easier.

his class is very boring!
My best professor by far.
Too hard for a first year course. Class is kinda slow, and I think that he may care more about the work than the people... anyway. Nice guy though. Knows his stuff and presents it clearly. Just a lot to memorize, that's all.
Classes are fairly boring but he marks so freakin easy....the guy gave me 100% on the term paper. If you think the class is hard then you have no cerebral activity whatsoever.
Should use prepared overheads given the amount of material he manually writes down every 5 seconds. Approachable, open minded, really likes discussion information with opinions. His lectures and exams are like anesthesia--kind of a buzz until you see how specific and hardline he's marked your work.
Awesome! Very clear, concise, great sense of humor. Loves what he does and I've learned so much in just the few classes we've had. He expects a lot, but its easy to do because of his teaching style. Highly recommended
John is one of the nicest and most helpful teacher I've had, I didnt find the course content intersting however, espically the physical geography.
Very hard test for a first year course, but labs/assignments are easy to compensate. If you don't take notes on everything he says you will fail, he's old-school and uses the chalk board excessively, he talks right up to the end of class which annoys me, but some people like that, nice guy though!
Very hard tests!! A lot of information to remember for the tests. Don't like Geography, would not recommend this course. Really nice prof though!
He is a very nice and helpful teacher! he gives u weekly quizzes but they are so easy, and half of the questions for mid term and finals comes EXACTLY out of ure weekly quizzes. His tests aren't that hard, as long as you understand his lectures. He is very generous, and will help you out very well.
John is very good teacher. He takes pride in teaching and puts extra effort to help his students. I would recommend him to anyone interested in geography.
Very precise. What you see is what you get with John. If you keep up you can easily suceed in his course. Test reflect material learned in class.
nice guy, i would like take his courses in the future.
Very nice prof. Class was interesting.
Class was so easy it wasn't even funny. Got 100% on term paper for "following all the rules". Exams are quite simple and come right out of the notes. He also gives a very thorough study guide. Seriously, if you think his class is hard then please quite school now due to a lack of cerebral activity.
I am an arts student and needed a science course. John Rose was great. Some say he is anal-retentive. I wish more proffs were like him. Would would you rather have? One who looses notes, tests, has wrong stuff from wrong ch's on wrong tests, or someone whom is 100% completely organized, and explains details so well, you will never go wrong. Easy A
He got me through a subject I had no interest in. Helpful, clear, pay attention to key words on tests. It was too much like a high school class, quizzes every week, participation marks, and he chooses your team for the group project. I thought this was a university level course? Gotta love the non cumulative tests though.
well...i would blame my poor grade on my lack of interest aadn time contrubuted to this course tho i do think that he is making things hard by adding additional materials to an INTRO geog course....i mean.......it's a course to let the newbies get a taste of geog.......there is no need to double the load.....but other than that he is pretty good
hez a very nice guy! a bit boring but he cares for his students. Also, hez an easy marker so take his class :)
he's self centered, arrogant, designed weekely quizes to force students to attend his classes. One thing that really pisses me off, was the way he marks the exams, a very tough marker, his marking system are suspicious, some questions I thought I answered very well, ended up with low marks. He did seem like a nice guy though. But whatever..
He's a very nice guy and he tries his best to help you out. However, his lectures are boring and he talks too fast to take notes. This class was more about BC's history than geography. A tape ricorder would be useful in this class!
Mr.Rose is a great prof. I admit I didn't give the course a 100%.. but if I fail I will definetly not blame Mr.Rose. He's clear in what he's saying, good at getting everyones opinions and has very thorough info. Sure, the class is a little boring but it does have its fun times. He also has a sense of humor which is good to see in a teacher :)
its more human geography then anything else.. hes really boring, not taking him again
John is a hard working prof, very clear and organized in his lectures. Exams are fair.Just one little problem. he grades participation from students. This can be very subjective. Some students from my 1101 class didn't participate all that much, end up with higer marks in participation than myself. Other than that he's one of the best in Kwantlen.
I took Geo 2110 with John this past Spring 2008.This was my second course with him. His Lectures were crystal clear and his presentation of the course was top notch. He would go the extra mile to help his students.Remember to participate in class.Work hard&you'll be rewarded.Take Geo 1101 with him&you'll see why. Kwantlen is LUCKY TO HAVE HIM!!!
The class was challenging but he does give out easy marks through his quizzes, so take advantage. He marks tough so study for the exams! John is very helpful and sincerely wants to help you. He is very inspiring and a great prof. If you want to excel in University I highly recommend John.
LOVE this guy. One of my fav prof of all time. He loves what he does and is able to get ANYONE to understand geog. One of the best teachers Kwantlen has to offer *two tumbs*
He's a really nice guy, and very willing to help you if you have any questions, very approachable too. his lectures are not overly engaging all the time. His notes are just an outline of the discussion, not of much use for the test, but you should do well on the the tests, if you do the question sheets. He gives a study guide for 1st midterm anyway
he's cute, and so obviously likes what he's teaching. He prepares you well for tests and quizzes, and posts all assignments online, for easy access. its great. If you do the in class work, you shouldn't have a problem
First geography course and I'm really impressed! He is extremely organized and will provide you with all the notes to do well. Weekly readings/questions sheets and quizzes help with review throughout the year. Lots of group activities, midterm and final exam. Clear lectures and willing to help. Glad I took his class and would take him again!
Love this teacher. Two important things if you want to do well: pay attention in class & do all his assignments; quiz questions are ripped almost entirely off hmwk. On tests, write down EVERYTHING you know related to the question. Took next to no notes and still got an A. I have no interest in geo, but definitely taking his course again next year.
Very approachable teacher. He is very organized and presents information clearly. Powerpoints are a bit redundant, but he really tried to engage the class. He looks for very specific things when marking tests and assignments, but is clear on what he expects. This was my second class with him and would definitely take him again.
I have had John for three class now (regional of BC, Cultures and just this semester, directed studies). He is a great professor. Very approachable and fair. He's not easy and you have to work for a good grade but university is not supposed to be easy, it's supposed to challenge and better you. All in all terrific educator.
I was lucky enough to have John for three courses during my time at Kwantlen. I can honestly say that John was my favourite instructor during my six years at university. His classes were among the few that I actually enjoyed attending. Not easy, but engaging. Because of him, I feel I chose to make geography the focus of my studies.
Wonderful teacher, great guy. He is a hard marker, but he is really engaging and loves what he teaches. This makes a world of difference. Just attend class, take notes and study your notes, and you'll be fine. dont count on getting 100% tho lol
One of the best teachers I've had in my life actually. Very inspiring and actually takes time to explain things in depth to students. He might have fixed the way I see things and my direction in pursuing school as well. I suggest taking his classes and as long as you study, you will excel in his class without any problems.
One of the best prof. He explains everything very clearly, don't move forward until all students understand and will motivate you to do better. He does give a lot of work (assignment, quizzes etc) and his midterm and final, though not hard, are very long.
Amazing Lectures, easy to stay focused. You must attend class because he does not post lectures online, nor does he use power point during his lectures. Most is on the chalk board, or him clearly explaining. If you go to class, stay engaged, participate a tiny bit success. Tests easy if you attend lectures and listen/notes. Homework yes. Top prof
John is a good prof IF you are planning on going into Geog otherwise his class is VERY boring. He is a very nice guy. There were readings from the textbook for each week as well as a reading quiz at the start of each class. His written section of the midterm is BRUTAL as he is very nit-picky with details so make sure you write down EVERYTHING!
he is a nice prof and accessible outside of class there is lots of homework and its essential to pass the weekly quizzes. lectures are interesting and textbook is required or you wont be able to do homework and would fail. text is not cheap. one midterm but no research papers offers extra help if you need it by email or in person.
He may not be easy, but he gives students the chance to work together on activities, he specifies what he likes in his assignments and tests, and you are expected to take notes on the lecture material as his slides do not consist of sets of notes. However, he was enthusiastic about the course material and showed great interest in helping students.
He's really a truly great professor, engages in trying his best to help his students during and after class. Would recommend 9/10.
Worst professor. Would not help in any case would just give a fake smile. Avoid him at all cost you would not get good grades
He does not help at all. Avoid at all costs
Great prof who gives very clear feedback. He is very caring and understanding and will give extra help if you ask and attend his classes. Very clear lectures. He is very passionate about his job and it was an easy credit
Dr. Rose 1. gives an extensive amount of unclear reading/activity materials on a weekly basis. 2. Materials are long and boring and require downloading 10s of files every week - it just gets confusing in the end. His "reading guides" are confusing and all over the place. Trying to understand his expectations is an impossible task on its own.
I found Dr. Rose to be one of the most compassionate and engaging profs to still be around. The level of calmness of Dr. Rose in dealing with student inquiries is beyond explainable. I wish I could take more courses with him, but too bad life moves on and you eventually come to graduate. Thank you, Dr. Rose.
He is an Easy A. He always respond to your questions. Classes were optional. Just 3 activities (Easy) and one mid term and final. No other assignments. He is so caring and dedicated.
Great prof. Always created a cordial and welcoming environment for discussion within the classroom. It's an easy class as long as you keep up with the assigned reading and weekly assignments (just like any other class).
Great lectures, friendly prof. Open book exams, but grading of exams was brutal, no feedback and very little instruction on what content is being looked for on the actual exam. Exams made up majority of grade. Take class with caution...
Questions in tests emphasis on the application of knowledge over facts, so don't be fooled by the "open-book" aspect of it. Classes though "mandatory", lectures are posted online. It gets boring, but he sprinkles some humour here and there. His passion for geography is evident throughout the course, looking forward to taking courses w/ him again.
There is just no way u r gonna fail this course. 3 activities are like grade 10 level difficulty, even if u got a 0 for midterm, u will get a chance to boost it to the same level as ur final exam. The time u need to put in this course will certainly be less than 5 hours for the entire semester.
Difficult grading on mid-term and final but easy grading on group projects. Overall his passion about the topic is visible and the class is enjoyable
Great professor, really loves what he does, and as someone who hasn't taken a GEOG class before, he does a pretty good job at introducing it to the students, 3 graded activities worth 40% of grade, and one midterm and final 30% each, all were not too difficult. Would definitely take again.
by far the best professor ive ever had. my class was asynchronous, but he was extremely organized in his content and very thorough when it came to weekly content, and exams. he is smart and passionate for this field which in my opinion is the best professor you can have. very accessible outside class. assignments were easy if you pay attention.
This guy is genuinely so nice and here to help, I reached out to him because I struggle with math and he was eager to help and even emailed me a couple times just to check in :) he posts lecture videos as well as the slides if you don't have time to watch the whole thing as well as worksheets to make sure you understand. Nice guy, would recommend!
Dr. Rose is an extremely kind and caring person and it's very easy to talk with him. Yes, the course was very difficult and lecture heavy, but he made up for it with his compassion. I was sick during our midterm and he was even kind enough to let me do it the week after (he even gave me chocolate after hahaha).
Dr Rose is wonderful! Although the course materials were difficult, he made it more exciting through his humour and passion for Geography. (PS. harder to score a high grade since the midterm and final made up most of the grade) He has a lot of knowledge and helps explain if you have any type of question. 100% recommend :)
