John explains everything and makes you want to learn the subject. He is very helpful in learning all of the material. Sets out objectives that you can meet and helps you attain them. Two exams both essay and they are situational which is very real world.

Class is a breeze. It is hard to keep motivated to go to class as most of class is based on remembering previous courses, no new info. Don't tick him off you'll be sorry.

The class is easy and the content of it is easier, everything you have to do is just as clear as it should be.

Motivates you to find what you are really interested in for the masters project. Requires very high level thinking and organization. Get your ducks in a row if you want to succeed. Helpful to the point of bending backwards 4 you.

Dr. Roussell actually cares about the subject and the students lives he touches. Watch out if you show no respect you won't get any. Oh and you better be a huge Laker fan or be ready. Fun Class.

great teacher...lectures make sence...tests are kind of hard but class is entertaining. very approachable...class was more fun at first and got boring but sit by people you know and keep yourself entertained.

This guy is funny and entertaining. a nice mix of visuals with lecture. lectures are interactive. quizes aren't super easy, but they are fair. Just be sure to read! exams are fair- be sure to go to the lectures b/c they really help reinforce concepts and cover material not in the book.

John is definitely entertaining. He does some crazy impressions, and it helps the time to go by quickly. The tests/quizzes are easy as long as you read through the chapter. Make sure you do a thorough job on the journals because they're REALLY important and he grades them really hard. Bring a sweatshirt to class, because Ayres 106 is freezing!

John is the best teacher I have ever had in my life! He's very clear on every assignment, he's so handsome, and pretty much a stand up comedian. I STRONGLY recommend taking his class.

As long as you go to class and skim the book you should get at least a B+.

Dr. Roussell made the best out of a 100 level GE class full of people who didn't care all that much. He makes a strong effort to provide all the necessary tools for 200 people to learn a subject that's often pedantic. I strongly respect him and his teaching style. He obviously tries very hard to keep his curriculum current and interesting.

John's in my top 5 favorite profs at Chico State. He's there cause he wants to be and i don't mind because he's reeeeeally funny, passionate and smokin' HOT!!! If he calls on you though, you better have done the reading OR can think on your feet fast... he WILL call you out in front of the whole class if you're not. John Rocks!!!

I don't know why people who rate the ease low for this professor. Might it have something to do with those people who don't show up for the quizzes and fail to read the material.

Do the readings for the quizes. I did poorly on the two midterms, so I had to actually do the reading and the study guides for the final to pass, and I did just fine. The journals are a pain in the but, but not actually that hard. The hardest part is finding articles. DO THE JOURNALS or you will probably fail.

You actually have to read the chapters he assigns, you'll never know if his tests will be hard or easy, and he likes to give out E.C. when the class size is lacking. There is a lot of reading required for this classa and he does quizes sporadically instead of taking attendence. He teaches a really boing subject but he does a good job of trying to make it fun, with any other professor I might fall asleep in class.

It's a 101 class - crammed auditorium, 101 overpass of a subject, no 1 on 1 with prof. Somehow John makes it interesting. Big time stand-up comedian - lots of jokes. Very good command of his subject. Has a lot of experience in the field of journalism, PR, and advertising. Very professional but COOL too. Do the journals early! Quizzes at random.

This was my favorite class of the semester! The subject is a bit dry but John is a great teacher. He expects a lot but makes that very clear. Attendance is not mandatory but if you take this class you MUST attend because he gives most test info in the lecture. He quizzes at random and start the journals EARLY or you are doomed! Great class!

Ok...so i just loved this class!! the subject is not that interesting and there is not really one on one interaction, but John is just such a treat! basically I wanted to hump him like everyday! he looks like barack Obama people! HOTT!

Rousell makes this class really fun. Just keep up w/ reading, mandatory attendance, random quizzes, and easy 10 pt. assignments. Make sure to start the Journal assignment ahead of time or you're doomed. Sometimes he would tell random stories, which would get in the way of his teaching, but very entertaining and overall was a great class.

I loved him. I thought he was really funny, cute, entertaining and a great teacher. The 10 journals that you have to turn in are time consuming, so start them early. Skim the book for the quizzes and pay attention to his lectures and you will do fine on the tests. Would totally recommend him.

I took CDES 101 (AKA JOUR 101) with John in Fall 2009. He is one of the best professors I've ever had! I loved coming to class because the stories and jokes he tells are both funny, as well as educational. Great guy, good study guides for each exams, and easy grader - if you do the assignments! He has an interesting story about a severed head..

He is a great teacher, I learned a lot and he really wants his students to succeed, BUT he's very hard to get in contact with. I sent multiple emails throughout the year and never heard back. Also, he barely has any office hours. Your only chance is after class. This problem caused me to struggle in the class. All in all he's a good teacher.

One of my favorite classes I've ever taken at chico! He's seriously the best teacher. If you need to take this class than take him! He's smart and hilarious. His lectures are entertaining. He used to refer to me and my friends as the 3+1 stooges. He really cars about the students. Great guy. Cute too :)

Pretty easy teacher. One of our quizes were literally to draw turkeys for Thanksgiving. Very entertaining but he goes on tangents sometimes so you definitely need to read the textbook. Very helpful and overall a friendly teacher.

John is funny and easy going. He makes the lectures fun and informative. All lectures are online, but take notes as he's going through the slides as well. He quizzes the class at the beginning of each new section before he lectures about it so be sure to read the book. Attendance isn't mandatory but still come for easy surprise quizzes.

John is a fantastic teacher and as far as I can tell a great person, he cares about everyone he teaches even if his class contains 250 plus students. This class is relatively easy if you go to class and just pay attention, he will explain everything thoroughly, read the book and do your journals before the week they are due and you'll do fine.

He's an AMAZING professor! He cares about all of his students! Pay attention, because his lectures are LONG and if you have no interest in Journalism, you'll get lost, or bored. He'll bring it back though because he's HILARIOUS, and loves to do impressions. VERY easy grader. Listens to his students. Is everything a professor should be.

He is a great professor and this is an awesome class to take! He is funny and he is passionate about what he teaches. There are quizzes once a week, a midterm, final, and final paper you have to do. The quizzes are easy if you read. The final and midterm were difficult but as long as you do well on your final paper and quizzes you will get an A!

John is my favorite professor at Chico so far. He is hilarious and really cares about his students.And yes- he really looks like Obama! I always looked forward to coming to class, although sometimes the lectures seem long and he repeats information. I learned so much from this class! Great teacher and comedian. You never know what he is gonna say cause he is so raw. I don't recommend being late or leaving early cause he will embarrass you. He also talks to students one on one during his lectures-he's just crazy in a good way. One of a kind guy brimming with confidence and charisma. The class is kind of hard though.

I'm only three weeks into this class and I already feel the need to share my comments for this class and the teacher. The teacher is outgoing and blunt which is a plus in Journalism. John keeps your attention during class and does the most unexpected things. The tests he gives you are based on the quiz questions he asks. Class is awesome!

Yes, the class is more relaxed than others but make sure you still study for the exams.

Outstanding professor who loves and is loved by his students. He never comes in with a sour mood and always does his best to entertain students. His notes are more key words on power points than actual notes, so make sure you listen to his definitions and write them down as his lecture is very detailed. I love John and he's probably my favorite professor on campus. He's extremely chill and funny as long as students are respectful. If you go to class and pay attention, it's not that difficult to succeed. Be sure to make use of his office hours, he'll clarify anything you don't understand and it really helps when preparing for assignments or exams.

John gives excellent lectures that are relevant, his anecdotes paint a fuller picture and he bends over backwards to help his students pass. Use his office hours, show up and pay attention!

I had him for two classes my third semester here. In both classes he was clear on the subject matter and is very fun and animated during his lectures. He's easy to talk to and very passionate about his students. His class was pretty easy, but I learned a good amount. He's just all around a great guy to know.

Such a funny guy. He makes his lectures so interactive and high energy. He seems to be very respected around campus, defiantly knows what he's talking about. Kinda vague on assignments, but at the same time a very easy grader so don't worry about it.

John is quite the guy, very entertaining. I had his 3 hour CDES 141 class and honestly I hated it. The class certainly could've been a 50min class, the other two hours were just wasted time. You do learn a few things in his class so if you can deal with the duration and interested in the subject matter you'll like it. Good energy in lectures.

He is really entertaining and super cool. Don't sleep in his class or he'll call you out. Always read or you'll fail the quizzes.. Gives free points with super easy quizzes sometimes. There's only 3 tests and then a Journal due at the end of the semester.

John is a really funny guy but can be serious and get well in depth when it comes to lectures. To get a good grade you need to make sure you've read the upcoming chapter and are prepared for a small quiz to follow. There aren't many tests and there is a long journal due at the end, which will determine most of your grade.

John is a very genuine and caring professor who is always looking out for his students' well-being. He is positive, energetic and definitely a morning person when it comes to scheduling. His classes are interesting and engaging for students, he has a tendency of going off on tangents sometimes but they are always fun to listen to.

John is a great teacher one of the most memorable ill have here at Chico. He tries to keep the class awake by stand up comedy and his impressions. As long as you read the chapters the test and quizzes will be a piece of cake. He's not trying to trick you in any means & is very helpful if you ask. If you participate the more fun you'll have!

Funny and charming guy that genuinely cares about his students. He's a bit more unorganized than the other professors I've had, but he really knows his stuff. Look up his stand-up bit on YouTube to get a sense of his personality. If you read the chapters and follow directions for the journal assignment, you'll be just fine.

John above everything else is a comedian and a friend. His classes are always fun/full of life. His teaching style is scatterbrained, so be ready to be a little confused by instructions but you don't have to do everything exactly right. You get creative liberties and he accepts pretty much whatever u give him as long as you show you care and try
