If you enjoy references to startrek and southpark, a teacher who teaches at a grade 8 level, but grades at a fouth year uni. level, this is the teacher for you. don't do it.

John is the best teacher I'v had. It is a great please to be in his class. Everyone taking an english major needs to take his class. He teaches well. If you pay attention the work and tests are easy.

Small assignments are pretty easy, but he marks the take home essay VERY hard. Overall a good teacher though, lots of one on one time, very helpful if you ask.

Decent Teacher. Pay attention in class, and take notes, and you should do fine on the tests. Make a effort to try in class because he gives a Participation mark!

Really nice guy...unique approach to teaching. He really understands his topics, however, his marking is sometimes difficult to analyze.

Nice guy, good teacher, hard a$$ marker!! In essays he'll write all over it and give you a bad mark b/c there was so many corrections, upon further inspection, most of the marks he has put on the paper is word changes but the others were fine, arg.

John is a really pleasant teacher to have. BUT...he is a REALLY HARD marker. I hope i do okay!!

John is a great prof, but he's not an easy marker. But he goes out of his way to help you, and makes sure you understand. Very very helpful and a nice teacher, If I had to take Engl again I would take it with him.

John is the best English professor at Kwantlen. He's a funny nice guy. He's a really hard marker, and mostly about word choice, but other than that, John rocks. Rupert > Bartlett!!! Watch out for lots of group work though!

He is a very nice teacher. There is a lot of group work but if you have a good group it can be pleasant. He is a hard marker, very picky. But if you want your writing to improve but don't want a mean teacher go with him. I will take him again and i only got a B- which is way below my average.

Dr.Rupert is awesome! Willing to help you with any questions and very friendly. His classes are interesting and held by attention even though it was 8am. Unorthodox teaching style but great content and fun stuff to study. I will definatly be taking his course offered next semester too!

He explained concepts well and had office hours for students everyday for two hours. He is always there to help you. HOwever, I did not like watching scary movies- The Ring scared me soo much I did not do my homework. The first time I did not do my homework cause the thought of the movie scared me. I screamed and through chips all over the place

pretty easy teacher just follow the outlines he gives for the paragraphs and ur gud for structure send him the paragraphs ur iffy bout and he'll look @ em n give u feed bak grammer is the thing he marks pretty hard on gives pop quizzes too 2% each 10 of them so easy 20% booster lots of group work but its super easy never for marks

Very friendly asnd helpful teacher. Watch out for lots of groupwork, thought they were really easy, fun and interseting. Feedbacks were very helpful, but a hard and picky marker. Well, i guess most engish teachers are. But it was a pleasure to be in his class.

Incredibly helpful (and kind!). He is always available for extra help outside of class. Plus, he gives TONS of feedback on essays. He teaches you so much about writing--you won't be sorry if you take this guy. He's not easy, but he's damn good.

Great guy, great teacher, what can I say. I had such an enjoyable semester with John. He makes classes very interesting. However, he is an extremely hard marker, but that's his job!! I would take his class again anytime!

Take this course if you dont care about your GPA. The course material is very interesting, Rupert is friendly, theres not much homework. The catch, of course, is that he is a ridiculously hard marker. If you dont phrase things as he would or use the punctuation where he would (even when not required), you will get no higher than a C+. BEWARE!

this guy is ridiculous. he should be teaching a 3rd or 4th year course instead 1st year. he makes you learn alot but no wonder why all his sections are half full!!!

Come to his class and try really hard. You will get a great mark. His marking is fair. He wants you to understand the structure of a persuasive essay. His course will help you any other writing you have to do in your other courses. Great professor.

He's a hard marker, but all English profs are. He's clear on what he wants; he really helped me out when I went to his office hours. He writes lots of feedback on your essays, and the group assignments helped me out a lot.

AWESOME! He is the most helpful prof in Kwantlen. Yes, he expects us to write precisely the way he wants. But after taking his 1100, essay writing became much easier than before.

Good teacher. Very clear as he explains things a million times over and over again. Hardest marker I have ever met to date. Went from a B+ in english to barely passing with his class. He gives everyone the same feedback on papers which is kind of annoying. Very particular/picky. Wouldn't go for him again.

John is a tough professor. His lectures are important as he lays out all of his expectations. He will provide assistance if you ask. However, he micro-marks quite heavily, very minute details will be scrutinized in your work. I don't recommend him for students who struggle in writing. Take another professor if you can. Overall, pretty challenging.

John is a hard marker but his lectures are extremely helpful when it comes to building content for your papers - so take VERY detailed notes!! He is always available for help in person or via email and will give you tons of constructive feedback.

Dr. Rupert is a great teacher. He is very detailed and precise with everything. He also is able to give you help and feedback at any time. However, he is the hardest marker i've ever had, he looks at every detail in essays and gives pages of feedback. He also sticks to one topic the whole semester. Don't take his class unless your an A student.

John is by far one of my favourite Profs, he was always clear on what he wanted and always had time for students, he was a tough marker but as long as you followed his outlines you would get a decent grade. Loved this class.

Extremely knowledgeable. Gives constructive feedback almost as long as your essay. Always attends to your needs.. as long as you're willing to make the effort! Also the only book you need (for his eng1100) is the little 20$ booklet he made himself. Gets more difficult towards the end of the course though!

Write exactly what he says in the class. In other words, copy every single word of sample answers he writes on the board. Memorize every single word and I got an A. He doesn't need your creativity. He needs to see you understand what teaches you.

John is the most helpful teacher I've ever had. He responds to every email within hours. So clear on criteria for papers. Will explain over and over until you understand. Put your phone away. Respect him and he'll respect you.

Excellent prof. Not super easy especially if you are a poor writer but he is extremely helpful and constructive if you are willing to put in the effort. Don't expect an easy ride. I personally hate English and find it to be a waste of time and yet he has improved my writing substantially already. I actually WANT to do the homework.

Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Will definitely take more courses with John and recommend him to others. He provides amazing feedback for every essay (a page long), and has very informative lectures. There is no way you are going to pass the course if you don't show up for class. Also it's a textbook money saver (20$ coil bound)

John is interested in the dark arts and that is what the entire class will be about. Beware if you don't want to learn about magic, witches, demons or conjurations. Although very helpful whether you see him in person or email him, he will always find something to correct on your work. I got 88% in 1100 and fell to 66% in 1202. Watch out.

His feedback for assignments are long and don't reflect the mark that you receive. He will bring up problems in the assignment yes, but not what he wants or how to improve. It's advisable to go to all of his classes, simply because of how much information that's learned each day. Remember to read the textbook, and don't forget to ask questions.

He's a good teacher. LOVES halloween, like loooooooovvveeess it. he likes you to have the work done exactly the way he does it which is fine if you can easily adust your writing to his standards. he usually gives you a guideline of how he wants his assignments done, so follow that and you will get an easy A

John is a great prof but you really follow exact what he shows you because its what he wants to see in your essays. He is a tough marker but his lectures were very entertaining.

Was reluctant to take this course because of the reviews on here. Turned out to be a solid guy overall. Strict marker but the instructions he gives are are very clear and as long as you do exactly what he wants you will do well

Amazing experience with this professor! My writing has improved and his course content is super interesting! Definitely recommend taking a class with him!

He's a tough grader, the feedback sheet he gave you would be mostly praises but little to none of critical feedback. The final is long but it's easy enough because it's just the group project reconstructed on your ideas. The class was good but sometimes the amount of time lost due to unrelated talks is half of the class's time.

I used to think ENG1100 is really hard , but he makes it so easy . His course was divided into smaller assignments and then a big research assignment at the end ( which was about everything we learnt in the class).He tells u exactly what to do to succeed in the course . All assignments are fun and u learn a lot. Has hilarious stories to tell :D
