AWESOME teacher, he gets the class involved and makes it interesting and easy to learn
Dr. Salamone is a great teacher! Really pumps up his class and tries to get the material across...but...the tests are really hard! He says students dont take as many notes as they should be, work on being more detailed. The book is good too, focus on the back part that he actually wrote. Not bad, but kind of a challenge :-/
Aced the class. Study hard from the back portion of the book he wrote a week before each exam and it's cake.
great guy...real nice and is actually willing to help. the figures and info in the back of the book are the most important. the tests ask a lot and the CUMULATIVE final makes your brain hurt but you'll live
the first test was very difficult, but after i knew better how to study and did really well on the second test and the final. he was interesting and i never felt a need to really skip class. good times.
The tests weren't easy but the class was good stuff.
Really funny and interesting lectures. He's a laid back guy and you can get a lot out of coming to his class. The book he used was a compilation of material from other texts and things he wrote himself, so what he wants you to know is pretty clear. His exams are not easy, so make sure you study everything in detail ahead of time.
Makes class interesting. Not extremely easy, but definitely not hard. No book used either, just his own text. Highly recommend this class.
He's a good professor, however, I just can't stay awake in his class. I am a psychology major, but I must say, the introductory psych class he teaches is turning me off from my major, due to too much detail and focus on things that aren't even on the tests
Before taking this class I heard his exams were difficult, but the exams turned out to be really easy. You just need to read his lectures over a few times and you'll do great. No need to make it to every lecture either, he posts full text and his notes from class online. It's fool-proof.
This psyc class was not at all what i expected which threw me for a loop at first. Over all he is a good very intelligent man. Once you get past the brain it is very interesting. Posts his text online for free. Study a lot for the first test the second 2 are not as hard at all. Overall pretty good class
AWESOME TEACHER! Posts notes online and is always there to help. Lectures are a little boring but exams are easy if you read over the notes he puts out. Also uses his own "book" which he wrote and gives it to students for FREE! Saves about $100 which is sweet.
Great professor, he gives you a book he wrote himself for free. Cares a lot and is very understanding. Exams aren't too hard as long as you pay attention and read the book. More Neurology than Psyc, but that's what he's told to teach
Great professor. Free text book. Love the class but sometimes he goes a little fast. He makes sure to make the class interesting, and is very helpful with answering questions and emails. As long as you read the notes and text the tests are fine
Best class I've taken at UConn! Never went to class except for the first week to get the syllabus/information, and then only for tests. EVERYTHING is online! Just read all the material online the week of and the test is strictly on that. GO TO THE PSYC LAB. Be warned, his tests have "both a and b" as a choice for every question so know your stuff!
This was by far my favorite class at UConn. He really made the class so interesting. His tests were not easy but if you study his notes your all set. You didnt even have to read his online textbook to get a good grade on the test. But he made you really appreciate the brain more and provoked you to learn more.
He is a GREAT teacher, I really enjoyed the class and it is definitely worth taking. If you attend class, read the notes, and the study guides you will do fine!
He covers everything that is on the test so there are never any surprises. That being said, he does ask question about the main parts he teaches you and then fringe questions. He gives you all the pp slides so attendance is not mandatory but id recommend it. Besides Miller, he is the probably the best intro teacher.
Class was interesting, but some days were a little bland, but then again not really a fan of the topic. Online textbook, never read it and did well. The tests are not difficult, but are tricky, containing answer choices such as: both A and B, none of the above, etc.
He was never in the country when I had his class and his exams were very difficult. The lab component was what really saved my grade from failing. His class was the hardest class I took in my years at uconn, I don't reccommend taking him as a freshman like I did, once you're used to college then try him out
Easy class, posts complete notes online, and you don't need the textbook. Only went to class for the exams, but I can say that he responded very quickly to a couple emails I sent with questions. He is an all around nice guy and very approachable.
Very interesting teacher, really made class funny and interesting. Has his own class website with his own book, slides, and class notes. All you have to do is study and exams are not bad at all. I went to most of the lectures, but it isn't necessary if you study well. Take this class if you are taking Intro Psych!
very passionate about psychology. interesting man with cool stories. tests can be tricky but shoulds be fine if u study hard, and offers extra credit thru experiments. good class
He is a great professor! Sometimes he goes off on rants, but you can tell that he genuinely cares for his students and is very passionate about the subject..probably my favorite professor at uconn in my 2 years here! You don't really use the book; exams are multiple choice and based on lectures. They require alot of memorization but arent too bad
Salamone is the man. he keeps class interesting. there is a lot of material but he teaches it in a way you will remember. you do not need to go to every lecture. he gives full detailed notes that he posts online. if you take this course then take it with him
Very engaging, as long as he isn't touring Europe. Makes class very interesting, and the exams aren't overly difficult. Great professor.
Great professor great sense of humor .. NO TEXTBOOK! POST ALL HIS NOTES ONLINE...easy to comprehend...i made index cards out of his notes and got an A.. Went to class a combination of four times
Salamone was my favorite professor last semester. I rarely went to class, read the notes he posted online, and easily got an A. I wish I went to more classes though, because he was so funny and interesting to listen to! He really tries to give everyone an opportunity to succeed
Great professor absolutely one of the best psych professors at the school.
Dr. Salamone makes class interesting and the tests are multiple choice. The questions can be tricky though because they are very specific. There is a lab component of this class taught by a grad student. No homework assignments in lecture class, but the lab assigns homework. Overall, a good professor!
Awesome professor. No textbook needed, because he posts all the text online. if you miss class, its easy to catch up on material with the posted text and section notes. he's funny and tries to make the class as interesting as possible for his students. tests are not as bad as people say.. some questions are tricky but manageable. take this class!!
Dr. Salamone is a good professor and it is clear he loves what he is teaching. He makes the class interesting. His exams, even though they are multiple choice are really specific and difficult. You definitely have to work hard in order to receive a good grade in that class.
really good professor makes class interesting likes what he does. the lab is really easy to get a 100 in. the test are pretty tricky they are all multiple choice and can trick you very easily. you dont need a textbook he supplies you with all of the readings, pictures, and class notes online. MUST TAKE FOR PSYCH
Dr. Salamone is a great professor, but you really don't need to go to lecture. He gives you the textbook online and he posts the class notes online and those are the most important things to know. I recommend taking him for psych1100, especially if you have a big work load for the semester- his class is really not that much work but worthwhile.
If you take PSYC 1100 take with Salamone. You don't have to buy a book and notes are posted online. You don't have to go to every lecture but it is helpful if you go. Some of the MC questions on tests are a little tricky.
If you have to take Psych1100 I highly recommend taking it with Salamone! He is truly passionate about psychology and his lectures are very interesting. He types up notes for you and the notes are online. You definitely need to study for his exams.
Drugs & Behavior is interesting, not an easy class but it's not a hard class either. You have to put in some work right before the exams. The only drawback is that it's impossible to see his notes during lecture since he uses a small font.
Salamone really cares about his students and makes them all feel important. Always gives positive feedback when talking to students in class. Tests are annoying because every single question is a trick question. Besides that I would recommend taking his class.
Such a bad Professor, in the aspect of test creations. He makes the Exams so difficult with tricky questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. He even said he adds trick questions so that not everyone can get a good grade..... Overall just a bad professor and worst if you are taking him as a freshman
People who think questions are tricky obviously don't put enough effort into studying. To get an A all you need to know + understand are class notes. Text is helpful if you don't go to lecture. If you're a STEM major this will be one of your easiest classes. Don't listen to the comments below unless you want a class that the prof spoon-feeds you.
Good class! Exams are hard if you don't study! I put in over 6 hours of studying for each exam and got almost perfect scores... that saying everything you need in terms of material is given to you. No need for a textbook either. On a personal note Dr. Salamone is a very kind, approachable guy
Unless you are a science major DO NOT take this class. Self taught myself everything but did well because of that, not an easy A
You should definitly take Physiological Psych before or with this class. It would make the class 80 times easier. You definitely need background for it to get a decent grade.
Dr. Salamone is my favorite professor at UConn. All of the notes are posted, so I did not attend the lecture. The exam questions aren't as difficult as others say as long as you study and know the material. I was able to pull off a perfect score on both of his exams. Salamone is a great professor and is approachable and willing to help if needed.
Nice guy with a lot of energy. I attended every class and barely got a C, thanks to the curve. This course is more difficult than it needs to be. He claims that the second half of the class is less science-based and more social and behavioral psychology. This wasn't the case. Recommend taking PSYC 2200 first if lacking science background.
Salamone is a really funny and cheerful guy. His lectures were always interesting. There were three Mc exams. The questions tended to be tricky but as long as you study and know the material well, you'll be fine. His notes are all online but I'd still recommend going to class every once in awhile. As long as you put in the work, you'll be fine.
Funny and sweet professor, but his exams do not test one's comprehension of the material. His test questions are solely focused on one's ability to memorize, as he will ask if the answer is, "A, B, Both A & B, or None?" For the first test, he focuses on LOCATIONS of brain parts, rather than application of their functions. Lecture unnecessary.
I'll pretty much sum up how to do well in this course. Two or three days before each exam read his class "text" and make sure you understand these 11-18 pages like the back of your hand. You will then wreck his tests no matter how tricky people think they can be. Lecture not mandatory, but attend lab and study lab slides before quizzestests.
Great professor, one of my favorites at UConn. He is so enthusiastic about his subject and makes learning the material easy and interesting. The class was very science oriented so anatomy and physio strongly recommended. Class was not mandatory but helpful since he goes more into detail than the notes he posts after class. Overall great class.
You should definitely go to class. It is a pretty straight forward course. Just go to lecture, study your notes and you'll do fine. I didn't go to half the lectures and I scraped by with a B- so if I could do it again I would attend class and it would make things much easier.
Professor Salamone is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting and very easy to understand. He posts all notes and power points online, making it easy to study. There is also no required textbook. There is a lot of information on the tests, however, if you study well and comprehend the topics, the tests are manageable.
I would highly recommend going to class and studying the notes well. He posts all the notespower points online and there is no required textbook. I took AP Psych in high school which helped me out a lot since I already knew 50% of the info. If you do not have that background, it could be much harder. Extra credit is available. He is a great prof.
I thoroughly enjoyed having Dr. Salamone as my professor in my first experience learning Psychology. His PowerPoints and note guides (which are posted online) are simple and easy to comprehend. His lectures were engaging, and though one could probably pass without attending class, I loved listening to him speak. The exams are all multiple choice.
This class is challenging but you are given all the material you need to be successful. Salamone is very interesting in lecture, and the tests are based on lecture material. If you are willing to put in the time to study for this class it's definitely worth it. Salamone was awesome, I highly recommend.
Honestly, I thought it was pretty easy and enjoyable. As long as you either go and pay attention or dont go and read the text, you're fine. He's a funny guy and the material is interesting too. The tests could be tricky but he never surprised you or made them unnecessarily hard. If you have taken any psych before it'll be no problem.
Salamone is a great professor, one of the best I've taken here at UCONN period. He's lectures are always interesting and he is genuinely a funny professor. He's a bit trippy and strange at times in the way he talks about his previous experimentation with the drugs we cover. But, it makes the course seriously interesting. Tests are very fair.
Final was harder than the midterm. To get a good grade in this class you have to work for it. I studied harder for this class than my other 4 and still didn't do as well. Interesting topic but VERY science based. I took Physiological Psych before this and it really helped. If you do not find anatomy interesting then I wouldn't take this course.
Two exams make it very easy to do poorly in this class. It is manageable, but not as "easy" as everyone says it is. I had an A on the first exam and first two quizzes, then the final brought my grade down to a B+. I don't hate him or the class, just wish we had more exams instead of just two. Would still recommend the class.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Salamone as a professor. He makes going to lecture fun (yeah, go ahead laugh and don't believe me) and teaches in a way that makes the information stick. I enjoyed this class so much I enrolled in the graduate level course and ended up working in his lab for 2 years.
I can see how this class may be difficult if one hasn't taken psychology before, but for someone like me who was retaking this class for premed purposes, Dr. Salamone was very fair in all three of his exams. Nothing was necessarily tricky, but some questions were rather specific. Lecture isn't required, but it can help clear up confusing material.
Honestly I'm surprised with how biology based this course was which was fine for me because I'm a pnb major but I feel bad for the people taking this as a gened. Great professor and guy, it's just his exams are a little hard for nonscience majors. That being said very easy A for me. No you have to buy. Put in probably a half hour of work in a week
Great professor! Extremely helpful; if you do not know something go to his office hours. Sometimes before exams he has review sessions in his office. Exams can be tricky as every option E is a&b or b&c but read through his notes a lot and you will be fine.
You will do fine in this class as long as you read the text and pay attention during lectures. Tests are tough and require a lot of studying but all of the information is in the text, which he writes himself and posts so you don't have to buy a book. There are only 2 exams plus the final so its crucial to do well on them.
Salamone creates a class that is exactly geared towards the success of the student. It's a psychology class so he recognizes that not everyone taking the class has the "science core" classes, so he makes it very comprehensible. Definitely need to study for exams, though. If you only go to class, you'll be OK without the book. Still great to have.
Wish this class had prereqs. Never taken a bio or anatomy class and I was so lost and confused. Only a midterm, final and 2 quizzes. Final is majority of your grade. Exams have SO much information on them and you really are expected to know all of it. I felt cheated out of a class I really wanted to take because the description of it is deceiving.
Salamone is awesome. He's clear and very knowledgable about the subject. His slides can be tricky to follow without lecture, but he lists requirements for the exams clearly & they are straight forward. However, you do need to grasp the material to pass. His grading system makes it hard to fail unless you never show up. Also quite funny!
How to get an A in the class: PRINT THE SLIDES when they are all posted before the tests. Know the slides. Love the slides. Literally go through the slides and read as if it were a story. Make connections. MEMORIZE. It's not that bad and so interesting. I did this for both tests and got a 99 and 100. Don't bother with the book! extra credit on test
I really enjoyed all of the material in this course, but absolutely despised Dr. Salamone. He was a very unfair professor, and nearly refused to answer questions. His exams are very tough, there are more than one right answer for the questions, but he wants you to pick the "best" answer.
Dr. Salamone is one of the best professors I've had. He posts all the slides and notes from lecture online which is extremely helpful. His exams are all multiple choice but have choice E which can try to trick you. If you go through the online notes than the exams will be pretty straight forward. He is also very helpful in his office hours.
Salamone rules! Seriously, I don't understand the people who complain that the class is too science based. If you haven't figured it out by now, psychology is science!!!
Even though it is 1100 level class, his exams are like 3000 level class exams. Be ready to memorize 30-40 slides. Yes, you heard it right, memorize. He literally takes everything from notes and you never know what to expect. Good lecturer but there is no chance you can do well in his class. His exams are way too hard. Don't take his class.
To be clear, Salamone is a great lecturer and professor. He knows what he is talking about and is very clear. However, his 1000 level class was nearly impossible. His tests were way too difficult and it is hard to study because there is so much information. Good teacher, but class was way too hard for an introductory class.
Honestly Salamone is a nice professor and the information in this course was interesting. But there was a lot of information from the notes that you have to study from. Some of the material was difficult to understand even with studying. Tests can be tricky but his grading depends on points you get which is kind of like a curve.
He's a great professor, I don't understand why some people below are saying the class is hard. Salamone is very understanding and a great professor. Honestly, lecture isn't necessary to go to, but if you go to lecture, the material will be that much more reinforced. I liked him so much I'm taking 2201, the other class he teaches, with him next sem.
Salamone is a great professor. The lectures are really interesting. Good students, ones who are motivated, generally like his style of teaching.
One of the most caring, patients, kind professors at Uconn.
He was an awesome professor. I would recommend going to class because he gives examples which helps with learning the material. His exams are "all of the above" or two answers most of the time, so you have to read the entire question. He also gives out notes for you to add to which helped with exams.
He is a very funny guy and his lectures are fun to go to, even though it's not necessary to attend. He puts all his slides online before the exam, and he writes his own textbook which he also puts online so we don't have to purchase one. If you took AP Psych in high school and did okay, then this class will be a breeze. Two exams and then the final
Amazing guy and professor. Class is tough (alot to learn and memorize), but he is a great lecturer and good at explaining the more complex topics. Provides all in class notes, and writes his own text book. Couldn't ask for a better professor. If you study hard you will be successful in this class.
Class is extremely easy if you just study the slides/ note outline he posts. Tests are super super straightforward if you know the terms. Great lecturer, and gives no homework.
Salamone is a great guy. Dude is awesome, funny, relatable and made me laugh a few times... But his pscy 2201 IS NO PSYC CLASS. This class is VERY challenging if you are used to regular psyc classes. The course is very bio, chem, neuro based. Majority of class is pre-pharm or bio students. That being said, class is doable if you work hard and grind.
He has amazing reviews and thats why I took this course. But I thought this class was very very challenging. I know people that did very well in this course, but I also know people who found it horrible. The tests are all a&b, all the above or a&c options ON EVERY QUESTION. I got a B, but only cuz I studied a week straight for midterm and final.
Extremely difficult class unless your major is Bio/Pharm. Good guy, very funny, but his exams are ridiculously hard. Basically, the midterm and final are basically your grade. There are 2 very easy online quizzes that count towards a small portion of your grade. The material is heavy on the physiology of drugs, 200 slides for midterm, 290 for final
Great lecturer! Tests are pretty hard, you'll need to study a lot. Textbook not worth the money, just go to every lecture and take decent notes. Definitely science based, so a lot of memorization, make flashcards and you'll be fine! The content is interesting and i learned a lot, just dont take at the same time as other hard classes
Salamone was a great professor. I really enjoyed his lectures. He was a very nice guy and easy to meet up with. The class is set up with two open book quizzes that are great for a grade boost and there are two exams. You definitely will need to go to class. His test questions come straight from the powerpoint slides so you will need to study!
This class is a lot of memorization, but not as hard as everyone says. There is a ton of drugs he lists which people think you need to know every one, but all you need to know is each group of drug and 3 examples. The mc is straight forward, and the fill ins are basic questions. His exams are an overview of the slides.
Professor Salamone is a great professor and is so enthusiastic about Drugs & Behavior. He makes the lecture lively and is great at answering questions. This class is very difficult and involves a lot of studying for exams if you don't have any background information on biology or pharmacy. Exams are challenging, but extra credit opportunity helps.
He was one of the best professors, if not the best, that I ever had throughout my undergrad experience at UConn. He is a very personable guy and his lectures are very compelling if you have intrigue in biology, pharmacy, or neuropsychology! His tests require a decent amount of studying, so be sure to dedicate plenty of time to that. Great teacher!
Excellent prof, very passionate and makes lectures interesting. I had a strong bio background so the content was not too difficult for me, but it could be more challenging without a bio background. Tests Spring 2021 are online and open-note. You're graded on 3 tests and 2 quizzes. Tests were fair and not bad. Really interesting class!
Dr. Salamone is the BEST. He's incredibly engaging and a lot of fun. Although his class is lecture heavy, the material is straightforward and he wants you to succeed. If you study the way he recommends, there's no way you won't get an A.
one of the best professors I've ever had! Super smart guy and really knows what he's talking about. I took this class online so I did not purchase the textbook, but I think it would have been needed for in person exams. I highly recommend taking this course!!
I'm not a STEM person (AT ALL), so I was a bit nervous to take a more science-heavy psych course but Prof Salamone explains everything so well. If you want to understand psych better, I urge you to take his class. If you're more of a humanities person (and/or psych major looking to complete your area 3), don't be scared of this class!!!
He is a great Professor no lie but he grades on limited things and allows no opportunities for grade boost. I'm not crazy about the biology which made the exams difficult since he only allowed 30 minutes for 20 questions which aren't exactly straightforward so it wasn't enough time because I would have to look at my notes.
Asynchronous. Alotted 30 min for a 20 question test once or twice. Tests for specific drug effects, behavior, interactions with other substances. Requires tons of memorization. Effort required is comparable to BIOL1107 & BIOL 1108. Does leave quizzes open all week. Tests are only open all day. Only posts videos.
I thought lectures were very informative, his slides were organized and easy to understand, he explained things very well
Lectures were dense with material but instructors were easily accessible outside of class and grading criteria was clear and fair.
Dr. Salamone makes all of his quizzes, tests, and final online and open notes so that makes the high abundance of material a lot easier to manage. He also records all of his lectures which I preferred watching than the regular lecture but he teaches this class extremely well. I just wish he wouldn't use the points grading system
The only thing I hated about this class was it was grading on points so nothing was weighted. The tests and quizzes were all open notes and virtual so that wasn't too bad but you should still somewhat study for them. He seems like a nice guy, I never interacted with him but I do recommend this class.
Excellent prof and his class Drugs & Behavior was very interesting. He made a topic I didn't previously enjoy before engaging and fun to learn about. He has a good sense of humor, is understanding, helpful, willing to answer all questions, and enthusiastic about talking to students. The material is challenging, but if you study you'll be fine.
This class was taken through a study abroad over the summer so it was a bit different than others, but Dr. Salamone is without a doubt one of the best professors I've had. He's funny, he makes what can be rather dry material interesting, he always asks for students feedback and opinions, all around just a great guy.
dont take this class with him. his exams and tests are difficult for no reason and his lectures are dry asf. straight A student but probably ending this class with a B. thanks john
idk why he has so many good reviews. was incredibly rude to me one day and it left a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the semester. should've been more professional towards a student in my opinion. notes are hard to follow. Lots of science and chem. talks over students when they ask questions.
I really enjoyed Professor Salamone's class. Lectures were interesting and he seemed to be very passionate about the material. Exams were very straightforward and open notes, so if you paid attention in class and took good notes they were no problem at all. There is some chem/biochem background, but he explains it in a very simple way.
Salamone is a great prof. Super cool guy who loves teaching. All tests/quizzes are open note and he gives out extra credit. Is a little biology heavy in the beginning but if you have a strong psych/bio background you should be good.
Professor Salamone is a genuinely good instructor who clearly gets joy out of teaching. He goes over complex neuroscience topics in the simplest manner possible. So if you're a psychology major (like me) who doesn't have a lot of background knowledge in neuroscience, then you shouldn't be afraid to take this class. Trust me, it's a good class!
He is very very funny but a lot of people are so focused on taking notes that they don't catch his quick jokes. Science heavy and you feel like you are a stem major but take all the notes, he has his slides up from day one so you can access them at any time, do not have to go. 2 quizzes a midterms and a final all open note all at home.
This class is just okay. Content is somewhat interesting and Salamone himself is a great guy. However, your grade is based solely on 5 assessments (2 quizzes, 3 tests). All are online with no lockdown and open note. Also, each assessment is weighed the same and his grading scale is based on points not percentages.
only 3 exams each about 20 questions they're all open book/notes. 2 quizzes which are 10 questions and also open book/notes. Funny guy but lectures are boring, so I stopped going and reviewed the material myself, he goes word for word on the slides so attendance isn't mandatory nor a book.
He is a very cool professor. All exams and quizzes are online and open note.
D&B is pretty difficult if you don't have a background in biochemistry/physiological psych. His lectures are very fast and very boring but he posts the slides. The exams are open everything but 20 questions in 25 minutes on over 300 slides of content. He has extra credit though which is clutch.
The material of this class was definitely challenging as a psych major with little biology knowledge, but it was suprisingly an easy course. Lectures could be a little boring, but all slides were posted online and exams were very straightforward, all open notes, and the exam questions are straight out of the notes. 10 points of extra credit too!
Dr. Salamone is the best! He is so funny and makes a really difficult topic relatively easy to digest and understand. Tests are online, open-note and pretty easy. Super chill guy overall, highly recommend this class.
Dr. Salamone makes a difficult topic engaging. Exams are open-note and straightforward. Lectures can be dry, but slides are posted online. unstuck study and other study tools like ChatGPT really helped me prep for this class. Overall, a solid psych course.
Great guy, very invested in seeing his students do well. Tests and quizzes are online open notes and pretty easy.
great guy, super chill
Prof Salamone is the best professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking a class with at UConn. He is incredibly knowledgable and is good at explaining complex topics in an easy to understand way. Not to mention he is hilarious and has good banter with his students. Would highly recommend him and I'm looking to take another class with him again!
this class had online exams that were open website and open-note, if you attended class it made the concepts very easy to understand. He was very understanding if I missed anything, and made learning the material very interesting. This has been one of my favorite psychology classes of my four years.
Great professor! Exams were all online but timed.
This class was fairly challenging since its alot of Bio and I haven't done bio since highschool. That being said, you can still do great in this course without a biology background, you will just have to study more. Overall, Salamone is great and this was the most informative class I had this semester, Definitely recommend. Also, dont buy textbook
The material presented in the course is very challenging conceptually, but Dr. Salamone presents it in a reasonable manner, making it hard to fail. Exams are online and open note.
