This guy sucks, dont take him!! Class is a waste of time and everything comes from the book. There is a quiz every week on webCT and they are really hard
He gives you every opportunity to do well in his class. He counts your best test twice, and gives added points. Dr. Scott is a great teacher. He explains everything clearly, and if you need help, he is more than happy to oblige.
This guy is great. He gives you lots of opportunities to make a good grade. He explains well. You have chances to make bonus points. He doubles your best test grade. I was dreading this class, but Dr. Scott made it interesting. You do have to study, this is college, you should have to work.
He makes it interesting and understandable. He's pretty funny, but most of the class doesn't get the jokes.
Dr. Scott is well spoken and always has time for his students.
Great class. Gave me a love of the subject matter I never expected in a million years of having. Great professor with a good sense of humor.
This guy is interesting. His test are relatively hard, but he gives you so many opportunities to improve your grade that it's almost impossible to do bad in the class. if you put forth any effort at all you can cruise the the course with a B
Had him for money and Banking and he was by far, the WORST teacher I've EVER had. Completely useless. Has no idea what he's talking about half the time and he usually looks as if he just rolled out of bed. I don't know how these other people learned anything from him. Maybe I had him at a rough patch in his life or something.
This class is pretty hard for a basic economics class. The tests tend to be pretty different than what is covered in class. A lot of stress is put on the vocab instead of the actual concepts. If possible dont take this class.
Dr. Scott's classes were dry at best. Having him for an hour and a half at eight o'clock in the morning was painful. The material he briefly describes in class is completely different from what is on his exams. His practice tests are useless because they cover nothing that he asks on the exams. I would suggest staying as far away from his courses a
His test are hard. He will help you but if you don't read the book you probably will not make an A. He puts ?'s from the book on test but does not go over it in class.Study = B+ or maybe an A
Definitely a more challenging class than I anticipated but Dr. Scott made it interesting at most. It's not mandatory to come to class and as long as you read and understand the chapters in the book, you should be fine! You shouldn't depend on your notes though..useless. And he doubles your highest test grade.
It's like having a class taught by Rush Limbaugh, in both delivery and ideology - blatant conservative bias. He knows it too. Which is why, without prompt, he claimed that he was not politically bias, just an idealist.
Very tough class. Boring subject, mixed with annoying teacher is never good. Does not take attendance but also does not post his notes online. Notes are not very clear so reading the book tends to help. Test are nothing like the notes making them very hard but he does give extra credit opportunity. Tough class, definitely not an easy A.
AHH worst class. I read for every chapter and went to every class and still did bad on the tests. The only real grades in the class are the tests so if you do bad on them your screwed. I am a good student and did bad. DONT TAKE HIM
By far, the hardest professor I've ever had. His tests are SO hard even if you attend every class & study. I've heard he gets his test questions from the information in the book but either way, the tests are super hard. There are extra credit opportunities. If you want to pass, attendance would be a good idea. Good luck!
It was really hard, but he gave me all the help I asked for. Twixt bars for right answers were great. He was real funny, but some people didn't get him. He kept me awake and explained things well. Made it interesting for me.
Very knowledgeable and talented teacher. His class can be difficult in some spots but his enthusiasm and understanding of the subject makes it a fun and enjoyable class. He loves it when you come to class ready to answer questions.
Easy class. Plenty of extra credit and a lot of points are given just for showing up. Great professor.
Horrible class and horrible teacher. I came to class everyday. I read the chapters every week. He used flash cards that were from some website and the students were randomly chosen to answer the questions. You were graded on how well you answered the question. Everyone's grade was curved. The tests covered material that had not been taught.
Honestly one of the worst classes I have ever endured. Im taking the class again and im driving 30 minutes to another campus to avoid him. There is an unbelievable amount of reading and studying. Most of his questions are very number specific so you have to memorize everything little detail. Some of his notes are 23 pages long. Love econ, hate him.
Great professor. He provides a text and doesn't lecture much. The quizzes and tests aren't very hard as long as you do the reading and pay attention during discussion questions. Most of the class doesn't do the work or even try to answer discussion questions and then wonders why they fail the tests. The DQs require you to actually read the text.
Most say he is tough, but I enjoyed his class and did well for the most part. He writes his own text and posts online, so if you read and study it, the tests and quizzes aren't too bad. There is significant extra credit for each test, because they aren't exactly easy. Read, go to class, pay attention, and answer when called on. You will do fine.
I took him once a week for 3 hours. Class was long and boring. He asks questions the whole time, BUT you are graded on your answers. So class is mandatory if you want a good grade. I studied 2-3 hours prior to his tests made high B's on all. Provides extra credit on tests. Quizes every day over the chapter you were suppose to read. not hard.
Great professor. Mild mannered & thorough. Writes his own PDF book available for free online, & book is as simple & straight forward as the subject can be. Show up for class, participation is 20% of the grade. Took some studying to come up just shy of an A, but not a hart class at all. WARNING: BANGS ON DESK VERY LOUDLY OUT OF ENTHUSIASM.
This class is not only boring because of the subject, but he does nothing to actually help you understand it. He wrote the book, expects you to take notes outside of class and he actually gets angry if you take notes during class. His tests are nothing like his study guides and his book is hard to understand. Run. Fast.
This guy is pretty much nuts, but it's enough to keep you awake at 8 am. He writes his own text so its free, short, and relevant to tests, but he's a science fiction novelist so there are intercepts at the beginning of each chapter. Significant extra credit opportunities! Attendance is mandatory and there's a quiz every week, but you learn a lot.
I love this teacher! You have to work hard to do well in his class. A lot of people complain that he is to hard, but everything he asks comes from the reading. You just have to actually study the reading. He is super helpful and knowledgable. I have learned a lot in his class. Take him!
Great Guy! Doesn't lecture, asks questions straight from the reading for participation grades in class, attendance is a must, GO SEE HIM TO GET PRACTICE TEST ANSWERS!! Half of the quiz questions usually are questions from the practice tests. Tests are hard, but as long as u have participations and quiz grades, you will do fine.
never earned less than a B my whole life (until now). Scott didn't show up the first day, and wrote his own textbook, which in his eyes is a literary masterpiece. Get ready for a semester of endless quizzes, yelling, desk banging, and tests aimed at exalting the economic prowess of John L. Scott. Test advice: pretend to be an egotistic sociopath!
Do not take Scott if at all possible. First C in my life, did not deserve it. He didn't teach at all and wrote his own book which was a confusing set of word documents. He does not care to help, so don't even bother.
Great teacher! People complain because they do not study or do work. Yes, you have to work hard. Oh no! What a concept! Also, he provides the book for FREE. So people need to stop complaining about him writing his own. Actually study for this class and pay attention instead of playing on Yik Yak like half the class and you will be golden.
He is one of my favorite professors I've had so far at UNG. If you read the text (which is free), class is easy. Take notes in class on the things you don't know. You will actually learn the material, not just scrape through. He is a good teacher and very eager to help. Also funny!
He is a very nice professor and very smart when it comes to Economics. He designed the class in a way so that if you want an A, you will have to work hard for it. But this is college, what do you expect? He provides the textbook which he wrote himself, and as long as you do some dense reading and pay attention, you can make an A.
He''s tough but fair. He is always available and if you participate and ask questions you will do well. DO NOT text in class or you will get the boot. Be respectful and you get it right back. A decent fair teacher.
Dr. Scott is probably the best possible teacher to have for macroeconomics. He wrote his textbook and gives it free to his students, but he is not big-headed about it. He asks questions for participation points, so make sure you study. His tests aren't too hard if you study.
Dr. Scott is a professor who makes you earn your grade. You have to put time into this class (and attend if you want vital points). Not a blow-off! But if you put in the effort you will surely learn something. I cannot go a day without thinking about some material relating to economics. Dr. Scott is ALWAYS more than available to help. Good luck!
Dr. Scott is very passionate and knowledgeable about economics, however it shows that he is too smart to be a college professor. He provides the book for the course (which he wrote himself), and it is beneficial to read the chapters twice before a quiz. Doesn't lecture. Tests are difficult. Participation is essential. Good class, if you work hard.
He's a great teacher with an amazing understanding of the subject. He wrote the text making it very important to passing the class. Do the work and extra credit and an A is possible.
Dr. Scott is extremely knowledgable about economics and is a great teacher. He's always willing to help and there is literally no such thing as a dumb question. Its difficult to get an A unless you are really dedicated to the class. Slacking off on reading and studying is not an option if you want an A
He is kinda nice and full of himself somewhat and the readings are not hard but his quizzes are tricky and easy to fail along with his test and his grading for participation sucks. If i had a lot of time to dedicate to just this class I might actually pass it. I would rather take honors with Potter than retake him. Make sure you read it is vital.
HORRIBLE. I am a dean's list student and I made a C in the class. Does not lecture, but asks questions on HIS "textbook" instead. By the way, the textbook is not that great. It is filled with grammatical errors and confusing parallelism. It makes it so hard to understand, but don't bother telling him because he's always right, so he thinks. Do not.
quiz every chapter (12 chapters), drops the 3 lowest quiz grades. Does participation points after each quiz which comes straight from the reading and you get randomly called on. super hard to make an A, but a B is easy as long as you read and GO TO HIM for help. take notes during participation points. I would take him again, but you have to work!
Scott is a solid 'avoid' for me. He writes his own textbook (its on D2L for free) and his entire class is just a check on learning. You read a chapter each week and he quizzes you on it in class and will call names by random to answer questions. He is really good at lecturing, but rarely does. If you hate self teaching you will loath this professor
I still can't figure this guy out, interesting fellow. Overall his class was challenging, but also rewarding. I'm not a poli sci major, but I'm glad I took it. He is very good at presenting the material and got me interested.
Material was a little contradictory. Perhaps if I was in class as opposed to on line, things would have made more sense.
Need to do the readings and the practice test questions and get the answers from him in his office. When I started doing that, I even had fun.
Dr Scott is a very tough grader! Our two test were 80% of the average and the 12 quizzes were 20%. I had a 94.07% quiz score but didn't do so hot on the test, therefore I failed! First class I've ever failed my whole entire life. I did everything he asked. He expects you to think the way he does especially since he wrote the book. Online was horrib
My experience was not good at all. I understand economics quite well as I am a non traditional (40 yr old career woman) but the study guides his provided were not the same type of questions as the test and there were a lot of trick questions. My focus was on how he might phrase a question as opposed to learning the material. Online not recom.
Great Professor! His tests can be difficult, and he does give quizzes without lecturing. After the quizzes, while you study for the next chapter quiz, he asks questions on the previous chapter. It helps when it comes to the actual tests! If you try and take the class seriously you will get an A!
I made a 93 in this class, but I will not lie, this class is challenging. If you want to make an A, you will need to put in a lot of work outside of class. The tests and quizzes are tough, and the participation questions are no joke, but as long as you read each chapter of the textbook a few times and pay attention in class, an A is attainable.
This is an amazing professor. He provides the textbook for free and all you have to do is read 1-2 short chapters a week and answer a participation question in class. I don't understand why he has bad ratings. He can be intimidating at first, but go to his office hours and ask for the practice test answers (he is very helpful for the test).
He's very difficult. If you can get the questions from someone who's already taken the class you'll probably do fine. He gives quizzes every week and they are pretty difficult. He only gives 3 tests so make sure you don't fail one because it will kill your average. No homework in the class though. He provides textbook.
This is a teacher that does actually teach anything. He offers no instruction on how to apply the book to the test. Also, this is one of the strangest economics classes I have seen. Scott writes his own book and expects his students to know what he is saying through the awkward sentences/many grammatical errors. Do not take his class online.
The most interesting professor at UNG. The lectures are example heavy and explain everything better than the book so seriously, don't skip class. He gives 2 extra credit quizzes that add directly to your test grade so watch the dang movies for an easy boost. If you're socialist now then you won't be after taking this course. That's a good thing :)
His tests are based off of his textbook that he wrote, which he provides for free. He also provides a practice test for each exam, which is where he gets a lot of quiz and test questions. He gives a quiz over every chapter, nearly every week, but they are 6 questions with extra credit. He also gives extra credit after the first two tests.
Very poor writer but everything in this class is based off a textbook he wrote. Bloated ego and bizarre speaker. Since he can't write cohesive sentences it is very hard to understand what answer he is looking for in quiz/ test questions. He may understand economic principles but he can't teach. As they say, those who can do, those who cant teach.
I did all the reading and the quizzes were not bad. He lets you drop some. They prepare you for the test. I liked that I knew exactly what I needed to do. He expected us to learn a lot, but it's a few pages at a time, so it worked out.
I took his class online over the summer. The tests were worth 80% of the total grade so I recommend memorizing the answers to the quizzes and practice tests - they'll show up again on the tests. Also, the class is pretty much entirely based on the textbook he wrote so make sure to read that AND the links in the text that are marked "essential".
Failed this class once, had to retake it. You get called on a lot, and if youre not there you receive a zero so be prepared to show up to class. Surprise quizzes are frequent and if you want extra credit you have to watch a 3 hour long video. He basically wants you to memorize the text book. Tests are very hard. Be prepared to read every page.
There are daily quizzes with the chance to drop some of them. The test is worth 75% of your grade. He does not plan a lecture you must ask questions, but if he does not like the question he will tell you to come to his office hours. Must purchase scantrons for yourself. He writes his own textbook so it is not very clear.
Hardest class I have ever taken! He bases his class off of the textbook he wrote (which has a ton of spelling and grammar mistakes). His tests are incredibly hard and I have failed every one. Get ready to read a ton and listen to his horrible lectures. There is a quiz EVERYDAY and he makes you watch these 2 hour videos outside of class. DO NOT TAKE
This rating is a little high. The class is annoying. He does not teach, or lectures. Everyday he asks for questions, he rants for like 20 min., then we take a quiz. EVERYDAY. The tests are close to 75% of your grade, and there is only three of them. So each of them is a big chunk of your final grade.
I think the people that give this professor such a low rating are those who just really don't understand basic economic principles. The class is stupid easy. Read a couple pages, show up, and take a 4 question quiz at the end of class. The tests aren't hard if you pay attention to the reading. Probably one of my easiest classes this semester.
You only have to read about 4 pages before class. In class, he reviews the reading extensively if you ask questions. Then you take an easy 4-question quiz. He drops your 9 lowest quizzes. 3 tests make up 75%, and quizzes make up 25%. Final is not cumulative. He provides study methods & practice tests. Nice fella. Just gotta try a bit in his class.
He doesn't do anything in class but answer peoples questions about the reading the night before, which he has every night. The reading isn't to bad as its only 3-5 pages a night. There is a quiz everyday of 4 questions. If you are better from learning from a teacher that actually teaches, this guy isn't the one for you.
Honestly, when I say "get ready to read" it's not a joke. He wrote his own textbook for the course and he makes you use the dang thing. You have quizzes over the reading EVERY class. The tests are super hard, but seriously, go to his office hours- it helps. The final was nothing like the practice test. He's super dry when it comes to personality.
He doesn't teach the class, you read the book, go to class with questions, and take a quiz over it. He holds you for the whole class time whether or not you have questions and will randomly bang on the table. It's a tough class, and he's a tough teacher.
While this is the most difficult course I have taken, the expectations are straightforward. Dr. Scott uses the class period to answer questions and provides many resources to help students succeed. He is always available during his office hours to answer additional questions. Test questions come from his textbook and daily quizzes.
I think if I were to be kind of good at economics, I would have made an A in the class, but I do not understand it. With him, you really have to teach yourself and if you have questions they have to be really specific or he doesn't answer it. There are quizzes every single day that total for 25% of your grade so show up and take the daily quizzes.
I put things off in most classes, but he gives a quiz every day over three or four pages of text so I kept up. Learn the pages. Be ready to ask questions. And you'll have it made. If you don't, then you will be nowhere. The tests are really hard, but if you come by his office and ask questions he gives a lot of help.
Professor Scott is a very knowledgeable teacher. He spends the class answering questions to the reading assigned the night before (which is from a free book he wrote himself) and elaborating on concepts and then you take a quiz over said reading. Complaining about a few errors in his book is pointless and I recommend taking this interesting course.
If you are good at teaching yourself, you will be okay. But, He is literally the weirdest professor I have ever had. He wears scrubs to class everyday and goes barefooted, very weird. Other than that, his test are extremely detailed. There is a quiz every day of class for attendance. You do not learn anything in the class, he just talks. Stay away!
Professor Scott really isnt a bad guy but it can be a little difficult to keep up. I sometimes feel lost but also feel like everyone else is three steps ahead of me, i read and take notes everynight, they just dont seem to work. There is a four question quiz everyday, it isnt hard but you really have to read. Test are hard and requre lots of study
Tests are super hard. Quizzes every class day. You must read every night and learn the material yourself. If you are motivated and can read and learn on your own you might do ok .
John Scotts Macroeconomics class was really not bad. If you ask questions about the reading, you will be fine. YOU HAVE TO READ. Every single thing on the test comes straight from his textbook. If you do the practice test, read, and ask questions you will be fine.
His text book is free. He expects you to read every chapter before class, so read every night. He does quizzes through tophat. Always go to him before tests during office hours to review the study guides he posts. He's not a bad professor, took him as a short session summer class. If you will actually put in the work, his classes are not hard.
Dr. Scott knows what he's talking about and is willing to help you understand the content. Tests are HARD, even if you study 24/7 because of how meticulous the test questions are. He has three exam grades that count 25% each and 4-question daily quizzes that count 25%. If you bomb one test you'll have to work your butt off to save your grade.
standard lecture class with little to do other than quizes and tests. pretty fun guy but material is tough
He has assigned reading every night that he reviews during class and then checks your knowledge at the end of each class with daily 4 question quizzes. He thinks he's the next great economist or something because he changes the names of concepts and will only accept certain wordings for answers. Do the reading, make excessive flashcards. Good luck!
Has kind of a stand-offish personality. He wants you to do well and wants to teach well, but really just irritated me throughout the course. Rambles on useless information and unclear sometimes. Daily quizzes and few tests. Textbook is free and written by him, so if you really really read text then you will be fine.
This class was great. You have quizzes every day, but if you do the assigned reading, you should be fine. The test questions are made up of the study guides, the in-class quizzes, and textbook information. He spends class time going over everything. He shows fun videos that help discuss what is being talked about.
He is such a good professor. He wrote the textbook and gives it to you for free. There are reading quizzes in every class but they are a good way to help your grade. The tests are very straightforward and he is extremely helpful during office hours. He is very passionate about ECON and explains in ways that are easy to grasp as a beginner.
Lots of reading so be prepared. He wrote the textbook so you do get online access for free. Quizzes every class day so make sure you read. Tests are very tricky but you do have a quiz for bonus points after every test. Hes a good teacher overall, just do the reading before every class.
Very difficult class. I had to take this course and it definitely wasn't my favorite. It's do-able but you really need to take time to read and study or it will be more difficult. The material isn't super hard but you learn from his own textbook and the test questions can be very complex.
Be prepared to read because he wrote his own textbook. Quizzes every class over lecture and what was read. His test questions are very specific I would never take his class again.
I did not like the class (online), because I didn't get that 1 on 1 relationship with the teacher and him not teaching us at all. He was very quick to emails, and didn't hesitate to answer any questions and any feedback. The one thing is that we didn't have any tests or quizzes, only HW & Discussion, which made it a hard 40% final to study for.
RUN. I am an B average student and I failed this class. The tests were so hard and his lectures did not cover even half the material.
I would 110% recommend you do not take Mr. Scotts class. Aside from the fact that Macro is difficult, Scott does not offer any leeway or help in regards to class work or exams, and no xc. National Guardsmen especially, do not take this class. You will get no consideration for work that is during drill time. Awful professor
He is a nice and funny person but, this class is terrible. Im on a lot of stimulant meds and I study almost every day and I still cant pass this class. The tests dont match up with the lecture/study prep and I dont know anybody who has passed one of his tests. The advisors even recommend you dont take his classes. If you have him... Good luck!
Had Prof Scott during the Hybrid-COVD semester. It says in the syllabus that you're responsible for everything in the chapters and he means that. You will fail the tests if you skim over the textbook. We had no lectures and had to self teach the entire semester. Only went into class to take tests online, which was 3 times in 4 months.
Took Macro2105 with him in Fall of 2019, and I got an F. Took it again that spring with a different professor and got an A+. That says a lot. He doesn't give very clear feedback, and he doesn't really want to work with you about trying to improve your grade. He has a self absorbed air about him, and I would NEVER take another class with him. RUN!!!
Took professor Scotts class during the 2020 fall semester and the only time I came in was to take tests. He had no lectures on zoom or in person and the tests were very difficult. Would not recommend his class at all.
You can make 100s on all of the discussions or homeworks and still fail. I dont see how that is fair?? The tests are extremely difficult and most students average in the 40s. You teach yourself the entire semester! Interesting guy but not a great professor. Thought I would end with at least a B but I was mistaken. Mistake to take him honestly.
Doesnt teach anything
This is a VERY difficult class. If you don't study A TON, you will not be sucessful. This class was hybrid. Students only came to class for exams. All study material was online. Anytime I had a questions about something in the course Mr. Scott returned my emails the same day. It's not his fault MACRO is a difficult subject.
Prof. Scotts class is definitely tough but not impossible. His home work and discussion posts make up 40% of the class and they arent difficult. He never teaches posts lectures and the only time we had class in person was on test days. You have to study hard for the tests but as long as you do well on the hw and discussions you should be ok.
The worst professor I have had. I cannot stand Scott. He is the worst teacher and his tests are hell. He sucks at explaining and calls on everyone in class. He makes you feel stupid and does not tell you your grade in the class until a week before the final. I will either fail or have to drop. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is a very intelligent man is is passionate about the subject he is teaching... but not about teaching. It does seem like he wants his students to succeed but gives the worst feedback so you don't know what you're missing. He wrote his own textbook so it's free but it makes the class more difficult and you have to read a ton before every class.
Don't take this class if you care about your GPA. He does not care about your success. He wrote the textbook so you know how that goes. You have quizzes every class period and his exams are really hard. All he gives you to study is the textbook. I studied for a week and still failed. He also makes you feel dumb if you ask a question.
Macroeconomics was not an easy class, but it was an enjoyable class. You have to come to class and you have to read the textbook. It was challenging, but I made an A. Dr. Scott is super interesting to listen to and does a good job at explaining the concepts. If you put forth effort, you will do well. This is not a class that you can skim by on.
Hes a cool guy buy hes a TERRIBLE professor. u will prob fail. what he teaches and whats on the tests are two completely different subjects. cares more talking ab league of legends than teaching econ. if u dont understand the material, dont ask questions bc hell make u feel stupid. also his handwriting sucks so note taking isnt reliable
I like this guy as a person a lot, he's usually very chill. However his class is exceptionally difficult if you don't study four hours a day. This class is great material wise, is information rich, and interesting ( in my opinion ) but is just very hard to keep up with and do well in. Quizzes every class. Love the dude but don't take the class.
Daily quizzes, very hard tests, and very difficult questions. John Scott does not seem to care about your wellbeing, and as someone who went to class every day and tried to learn his material, you will probably be better off guessing on the tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
This guy is the worst teacher in all of the southeast. Anybody who rates this man over a 1 either got paid or is related to him because I promise you nobody in their right mind would like his class. Terrible excuse of a teacher.
John Scott was not the most caring and fun teacher. If you just learn the material you should be almost fine. He is a tough grader. If you have another choice for an ECON teacher chose another one.
You have a quiz everyday, each quiz has 5 questions (you always get 1 question correct). 9 of the lowest quiz grades are dropped. There are 3 Exams, 1st is semi hard, 2nd very hard, third easy (not cumulative) Exams 1 and 2 have extra credit over 2 hour movies. I only watched one for extra credit and got 13 out of 15 right. (67 to 80) Smart man.
You must read his textbook and go to lectures to pass the tests. daily quizzes but he drops the 9 of them. the final is not cumulative(each test is over 4 ch). Take time to go to his office during hours, and show you care about the class. this is not an easy A, but if you're looking to actually learn something, I would totally recommend Dr. Scott.
If you're looking for an easy A, I would take another class. However, I learned a lot in this class. Study the textbook! All of his exams are over the textbook. His lectures only help to further understand the textbook. He cares about his students, and he is easily accessible outside of the class. Put in the work and you'll get a good grade.
He has a schedule on the syllabus to help you stay on top of reading. He talks about what is in the textbook consistently, quizzes and tests match up with them. Lectures usually covers 5 pages max. He gives proper test materials. There are 2 2 hour long documentaries, which i recommend you to break it into small chunks to watch everytime you read.
His only assignments are 5 question daily quizzes and the 3 tests. He gives extra credit after every test but the extra credit is a quiz on a 2 hour long video. He Only puts grades in after every test so you have no idea where you stand for pretty much the whole semester.
He is a nice person and is very interesting, but the teaching style is difficult. The entire course is over a textbook and the exams will consist of very vague portions inside it. Commanding heights quizzes are extremely useful though and can singlehandedly move your exam score from a 75 to a 90.
John Scott was a really nice person however his class is extremely difficult. He wrote the textbook that the class is based on and all of the tests are based on his textbook and what he thinks is right. You also have a quiz every single class period that counts for your grade. I overall recommend not taking this class
Nice guy, seems passionate about what he's teaching. Make sure you keep up with the quizzes, do the extra credit work, and a whole lot of reading on a textbook that he wrote himself. Overall tests are very hard, but you can do a a few things to try and save your grade. Good luck.
So hard. Nice guy but super challenging. 3 tests worth 75% of your grade, and a quiz every class period that is 4 questions. Gives extra credit quizzes, but they are over two hour long videos. He has a how to study document and I followed it exactly every time and I still did really bad on every test. Good luck.
This class was extremely hard. He wrote the textbook and is lecture heavy. You have a quiz at the end of every class over the lecture and the textbook. He posted a "How To Study" document for the tests, which I followed exactly, and still, I only passed with a B. Overall, this class was very frustrating and difficult. I would not take him again.
Study the textbook as much as you can. Since he wrote it, the majority of the class comes from stuff right there. The lectures just reinforced the chapters. I also got bonus point from the videos. Since they were long, I had to break them up and watch about 1/2 at a time. The class was not that hard if you really focused on the textbook.
I followed his How To Study document and still struggled. I spoke to him in his office hours asking for help and a even a tutor. He denied me and told me I wasn't doing my best despite having all A's and B's my whole life until his class. He told me it was beyond my capabilities of passing. He told me I was going to fail.
Quizzes and Tests are very hard.
His classes covered the text book, and the information from the lectures was very interesting and useful to everyday life.
AWFUL just do not take his class. Honestly, the tests were worth 75% of your grade and were extremely hard. I would never wish this professor on my worst enemy that's how bad he is.
His class is based off his textbook he wrote. So you have to read it and put effort into this class if you want to pass.Exams cover 4 chapter , about 40 questions each. PAY ATTENTION to the small things and details in the text book.Quiz every day you're in class. Offers bonus points on exams but you have to watch 2-3 hour long videos.(15 questions)
John Scott cares about what he is teaching. Make sure to read the textbook when you study and take notes during the lectures. The one thing i loved about this class was the extra credit you can earn on tests. I ended up getting over 10 extra points on each test with the extra credit assignments.
Dr. Scott is excellent! His class was very entertaining and he really knows his stuff. I learned an insane amount of stuff from his class, and I'll miss him. Do what he says to do to succeed! The readings aren't too long, quiz in class every day but pay attention to the questions. Tests can be tricky but study the textbook and go to his office!
DO NOT take him. You are better off taking an online class. He over complicates everything. You have to spend $80 dollars to access homework that none of the other teachers use and pay for an app to take attendance. It's a huge waste of money and time. He is a very disappointing professor and I whole heartedly believe he should not have a job here.
Alright this guy is mediocre at best, took his Macro course, makes you buy an $80 textbook to do all of your work on (online) and a $5 app to take attendance because hes lazy. Awful lectures with little detail, tests are harder then the in class practice that you repeat through out the unit. Funny guy but i wouldn't step foot in his class again.
John Scott hates phones, he'll kick you out if you pull it out which is kinda crazy. He assigns alot of online textbook work thats easy but it just takes time and can be sometimes annoying to complete. He'll yell if no one answers questions asked in class and the class is pretty test heavy.
I am not sure how this guy still has his job. The dude has no class or charisma. Wears a bedsheet to lectures. Yells at students. Kicks students out for pulling out their phones. Do NOT take this professor. Find any other option if you value your GPA.
Does not tolerate phones in class at all. If you want to get by, either don't take him or pay attention and teach yourself on your own time. Does mini quizzes at the end of every lecture and yes it's for a grade so if you plan on zoning out, don't.
He's definitely a very tough professor to have. He makes simple concepts so incredibly complicated and writes in chicken scratch. I wouldn't recommend taking him, choose someone else.
Great professor. He knows his stuff, and now I know it too. He gives out a decent amount of homework. His handwriting is complete chicken scratch, so you have to listen to him talk. And he has a temper when it comes to phones, don't plan on using them within 20 miles of this guy. Despite all that, I learned a lot. Very cool.
I Instantly dropped his class after the second day. Dude kept talking about his wife for about 10 minutes and gets off topic. He grades harshly. The textbook that he wrote were complicated. His writing looks like scattered poop. He cant explain or teach anything well. Lastly, he rarely responds to emails.
Can't even read his handwriting, and quizzes every single class.
The professor himself isn't terrible. The format of this class is super inconvenient and relies to heavily on the 3 total tests you take. There is no in class or homework assignments that might cushion your grade, everyday is a quiz at the end of class with only 4 questions so you miss 2 it's an easy fail. And there arent many extra resources.
Dr. Scott was a decent teacher, but his tests were challenging. He gives extra credit opportunities, but you have to watch a two-hour video. He hates phones so don't bring one around him. He is very knowledgeable so make sure to pay attention and you will learn a lot.
Professor Scott knows his stuff. The content is interesting, but beware of his tests; he asks oddly specific questions. Attendance is super important because he gives quizzes daily and takes your attendance based on that. He also allows extra credit, but you have to watch a two-hour video, and again, his tests are not easy.
Dr. Scott is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject he teaches. The class consists of daily quizzes and 3 tests. Dr. Scott also links practice tests and is very willing to explain and reexplain material in his office hours. As long as you read and TAKE NOTES on the textbook and show up to class as much as you can, it's fairly easy.
4q quiz after every class. gives practice tests b4 every test, but they dont cover all the 4 ch. If you skip class youll get a 0 on quiz and miss content. I advice reading the content b4 going to class. For better understanding and grade, visit him to go over the practice tests and questions regarding material. great professor, would take him again
Worst professor I've had. He has no respect for his students. Don't even think about checking your phone for one second because the boogie monster that wears a bedsheet will throw a tantrum and kick you out. Keep in mind when you read these other reviews that they are not exaggerating. Tests are difficult, lots of trick questions. Avoid him!!!!!!!!
Office hours will be really helpful in this course. The tests will seem confusing unless you do the practice tests he gives and then go over it with him ( office hours! ) It is a no tech zone, you will be asked to leave. Attendance is not mandatory however he will take it every day through quizzes over the reading and homework. He is intense jsyk.
I never wore my seatbelt to class because I was praying I'd die before I arrived
Writes his own book, exams=extremely hard. Quiz, everyday. Pay attention, go to office hours. No phones and do NOT sleep in class, he will slam his hands on the desk and yell. Took this class 2 times, sadly, avoiding him is hard.
Don't take him unless you want to hear about how deregulation can solve every problem ever while the world burns down around us. He links to a lot of teaching material (random videos and oped sites) where you're a few scrolls away from borderline hate speech, and all he wants is summaries of what we find. He will fail you if you try to engage.
This professor single handedly got me into economics. Yes he is difficult, you cannot play on your phone in his class, and you cannot sleep in his class but you shouldn't be doing that anyway. If you are serious about learning economics then he is great. If you are just trying to complete your required credits then you will hate this class.
Intelligent guy, He's very short tempered and was more useful to society whenever he wasn't teaching.
Daily quizzes made me keep up. Read the material before class and listen and get a good quiz grade. Tests are hard, so keep up and check answers on practice tests. He gives help outside class. I liked the videos and took notes on them and raised my course grade by a letter with the extra credit. Don't touch your phone or he'll kick you out.
He will slam the table violently at 9 AM if you don't know the answer to his question. There is a 5 question quiz every single class period at the end, you only have 10 minutes and if he rambles for to long you have even less time. He will end that quiz exactly at the end of class and then you will get a 50 if you didn't answer quick enough.Dont do
Slams the desks for no reason early asf in the morning and will randomly yell. There is a quiz daily at the end of class, so pay attention to the textbook and the notes he writes. He has the worst handwriting known to man, so honestly, good luck. I stayed in his class until the very last withdrawal date, and I just gave up. Take another professor!
