Had him for 101 and 102. Write good essays on the tests, memorize the names, periods and artist of the works of art and you'll be cool.
Seed courses are interesting because he's funny and he indulges the class in the juicy details- sex, drugs, violence. That's what art's all about, right?
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. his lectures are fun and interesting, and he is always open to student interpretation. He is always clear and gives a great understanding of the art.
I LOVE this man. His excitement for the material is contagious.
Not your average professor...Seed's classes are very interesting. His enthusiastism for knowledge is contagious. He cares about his students success so, be sure you attend lecture & do the reading & you'll be fine. His genuine love for Art shines through in all of his lectures! He is great!!!
Extremely easy course. Never took any notes or did any of the reading and got A's in both classes. Show up and pay attention and you'll do just fine.
John is a fun, easy-going, nice teacher. His art classes really take you away from stress of college and let you relax. Have good attendance and do your work and you'll get an A
Seed rocks. His lectures are always engaging and he is tremendously interesting as an individual. He is accessible outside of class, where he is usually found in his office or available by email. He's a great professor and definitely one of the better ones at MSJC.
HAD HIM IN SPRING 2005. I LOVE HIS CLASS. GREAT LECTURE EASY TESTING, VERY INTERESTING INDIVIDUAL. I HIGHLY RECOMEND HIM TO ANYONE THAT WANTS TO LEARN ABOUT ART HISTORY AND AT THE SAME TIME MAINTAIN AN A AVERAGE IN THE CLASS. THANK YOU MR. SEED.
online class, simple, a little hard work, but if you put in the effort, you'll get good grades.
Excellent teacher. Summer online class. A lot of work, but as long as you keep up, you will be just fine. The work at least, is interesting!
Mr. Seed allowed me to fall in love with art. His passion for art and his students is well noted.
Great teacher. Lechtures are facinating. He is wonderful at bringing the history to life.
Awesome Teacher! I took him for 102 and 103. I like the way he runs his class, his midterms and finals, and quizzes. He is very helpful and loves to get the class involved. Great Teacher
AWESOME TEACHER! I love the way he structures his class. very interesting and passionate.
Excellent instructor. I would definately take him again. Very clear and helpful, good review for work, relevant quizzes which are easy to pass if you read the chapter. I would definately recomment him to anyone. Great class! I ended up loving art!
EXCELLENT!online teacher. Great communication skills, very interactive (MSJC should hire more like him). Definitely knows art and makes it interesting - strongly recommend him.
Awesome online teaching skills by this man. His knowledge of art and all the cool people he's met along the way really helps students out in this class. He answers questions right away, usually within the day. Assignments are always clearly laid out, so there's no question about what's due or not.
Absolutely Great! I love this class. A lot of work and thought provoking art.Highly recommend. He is a very fine instructor.
Mr. Seed cares about his students. This was an interesting and fun class. If you do the reading you will do well.
Mr. Seed Rocks!!! Definitely take his class! Fun and interesting! Not easy but entertaining!!!
great art teacher and enjoys what its all about. he's a great speaker however it does take effort from the student to actually get a good grade. take this class if you have the interest and actual ability to do assignments instead of an easy pass
He's an awesome instructor; truly the most passionate instructor I've had yet. I didn't know about art, but he makes everything so easy to understand. He's so helpful, and actually replies to email questions. He does like it best when the class discusses art, so be ready to be vocal in this class.
I took the online class. Great online teacher, quizes are easy and discussion board activities are simple too. Just make sure you actually analyze and discuss the art at hand rather than just say it's pretty. good online course.
Prof. Seed is a great proffessor who wants everyone to learn and appreciate art... very interesting class, never thought I would enjoy it so much.... a great professor....
Extremely clear on assignments. I always knew what was expected. Weekly feedback helped to monitor progress. Assignments were interesting.
I Just took his online course and it was a lot of fun. I had a good time enjoying learning about art and much more. There are assignments every week and a quiz...if your willing to take this class make sure your motivated because it is online...but other than that like i said great teacher and if you have any questions he gets right back to you
Professor Seed is very passionate about art. It's easy to see that he loves his job and gives his all. Just do all of the assignments, use correct grammar and pay attention. Take home exams are awesome too!
Interesting teacher. Gives good lectures. Easy class because he cares about what he's teaching. Nice guy. Knows everything about his subject, I would take him again.
John Seed is a great teacher. He is so helpful and he really exposed me to the world of art. Take his class, even the online one is good! I really am enjoying his class and I would recommend him to anyone!
Loved this teacher. Was REALLY interesting. New what he was talking about. It was an online class and i still felt like the teacher was teaching me, not the book. AWESOME! TAKE HIM!
Professor Seed is one of the most motivating instructors thus far. His assignment intructions are clear and precise. You are exposed to a variety of artists and techniques. He has extensive knowledge of the art world. He offers constructive critism to enhance your skills as a writer and encourages you to broaden your thinking.
tOOK IT ONLINE AND BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT MSJC. EVEN THOUGH ONLINE THERE WAS ALWAYS COMMUNICATION. vERY HELPFUL AND SWEET TEACHER! WOULD TAKE OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
Mr. Seed is BY FAR the most inspirational and dedicated teachers I have met. His burning passion for art really shines through as he teaches and he can make any person interested in modern art. His classes are super informative and I absolutely loved his way of teaching which is rare for me. I'm so glad I took him, you should too!
Mainly stayed on topic with the book. Lots of quizzes and discussions, basically a lot of busy work the whole time. He is really helpful and really will allow you to view art in a different way and makes you appreciate it in new ways as well. I guess that is why they call it "art appreciation." He is nice, and helpful, but there was a lot of work.
Awsome Professor!! i took him for 102 and 103, you can tell he loves what he does in the way he approaches the class. he loves for people to get involved with the conversation, so have questions and comments. quizes are simple usually 10 questions and there are no test but final and midterm, which are take home. if you are looking for a interesting teacher he is the one.
Passionate professor. Really cares about Art and his students. He even conducted an optional field trip to a museum for his students. He graduated from Stanford -- very knowledgeable. Highly recommend. Took class online and loved it.
I have taken him for painting, Modern art history, Prehistoric art history and Medieval art history and I loved each class. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he always finds a new and fresh way to teach a subject. All of his lectures are very intriguing. He is the best art teacher Iv ever had. If you love art you must take his class!
The class was fun, lots of interesting facts but the work he makes you do is too much for an art class. This is not an easy class, you have to write a lot, and do lots of essays. If you want to take this class for an easy A, is not going to happen.
Mr.Seed is nice, he gives time during and after class for questions and concerns. I rarely used my book, only for more information. Class is not mandatory, but if you do not attend class you will be missing out on a lot of information!! Similar to an english class :] Mostly uses powerpoints. Take a lot of notes, go to class! :]
I took his art class online. It was pretty easy. There is alot of work involved though and he can been hard on the grading. He comments on everyone's work so atleast he tells you what needs improvement. Overall, just do all the assignments and you'll be fine.
Took this course online over summer, overall a good class. I learned a lot, however, since it was a short term class there was A LOT of work. He grades fair, and it is not very difficult but very time consuming. He puts a lot of time into the course and is willing to help.
Great teacher. Took this course online, it was a lot of work but it wasn't that difficult. Assignments are easy for the most part. There is about 4 postings due, 4 quizzes, and 1 big assignment due each week. Probably would be better if during a full semester.
I took painting 1 & 2 with John and I thought he was awesome! However, he really didn't get into much about teaching technique and how to use the brush and colors unless you ask. Still, I highly recommend John. Don't be afraid to speak your mind. You will need to critic in this class (also Art-115)about your work and other's.
I took Prof. Seed's online class and passed with a B. John is smart and helpful and I have no complaints whatsoever about his class. Definitely reccommend him!
I went from practically drawing stick figures to actually being able to draw fairly well. I took the class because drawing was something I wished I could do, now I can and it is one of my favorite hobbies.
I really enjoyed Mr. Seed's professionalism and passion for Art. Was a good class, 3 quizzes, 3 papers, all instructions very clear. Good class!
he's very helpful and his lecture is not boring at all. quizzes are taken online and test is easy. you can visit museum or do research paper.theres also discussion board every week. overall fun class!
Amazing teacher! Very helpful and enthusiastic, I learned a lot. Everyone should take his class. Very easy.
Great instructor very passionate!!!! I wasn't very interested in art going in, but he made it bearable. I'm still surprised I passed the class.
Great teacher. Helpful, passionate, clear. Good sized workload but not overwhelming for a busy individual. Interesting class. Would definitely recommend!
I took this class as a hybrid. It was highly interactive; quizzes were taken online and he posted videos to add to the make the course more interesting. He is very easy going and I enjoyed discussing art and experiencing other cultures in this class. If you're a busy person, the workload isn't heavy.
He makes an art history class a lot more interesting! His lectures go by quickly and he doesn't assign a lot of work. Great professor and good class!
EASY AND NICE TEACHER. he gives you As on almost everything and writes comments to you about where you went and what you wrote was interesting
Excellent instructor!! Yes you have to read for his quizzes but he announces them at least a week in advance. If you read you will do just fine. Had to write paper for the midterm of at least 2000 words which was not too bad considering you work up to it. The final was short essay questions which you researched ahead of time. Not bad!!!!
it's no surprise to see john w an a grade on here. i have no regrets taking his class and would recommend his class to anyone. long story short, john really open your eyes to the world of culture in art 102. and for that, i am grateful.
Awesome Intro to Modernism class. It's a hybrid w online discussions every week. There's a short paper due every other week on the chapter, a research paper for the midterm, and an easy final. He likes to involve students in discussions during lectures. I'd recommend him to anyone who needs to take an art class!
Mr. Seed is so awesome! He is so passionate about class each day and his great humor makes it all worth sitting through. I wish he could teach every class. Definitely recommend!
An inspirational man with a lot of experience and voice. For art appreciation, there is blogging involved, but no tests - only a final. No textbook, he has a virtual one comprised of videos and readings he made himself. He has artists and curators Skype in! He has a YouTube channel. Great teacher, lecturer, and friend to everyone he meets.
Art 102 was my 3rd class with Mr. Seed. He's one of the best professors on campus, in my opinion- he gives great feedback on essays (you only write one during the semester) and his lectures make the information really interesting. He sometimes forgets if you email him with a question, but if you remind him he'll be more than happy to help you.
Prof. Seed is an amazing teacher and I highly recommend him! Class was really fun, and the assignments are really fun and simple!
Professor Seed is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. He is very professional and knows what is fair to expect of his students. Gives options for those who cannot take time or money to go to a museum for example, for assignments. Grades are up the next day along with clear feedback. Loves when students give their opinions.
Professor Seed is a great teacher! With this class, you'll only have to show up once a week, give a discussion before each class, and a chapter commentary every two weeks. Other than that, there are a few projects and a field trip, which you can do online. He's a very flexible teacher, and he always starts 5 minutes late and gives 10 min break.
John Seed is not only an amazing professor, but an amazing person. He is a genuinely good man, who has a passion for art and loves sharing it with others. He is willing to listen to opinions from every side, and offers great information on famous artists that makes you feel like you knew them personally. Would (and will!) take again.
He was by far the easiest professor I've ever had. Its very easy to get an A in the class as long as you do the online homework that is assigned. The homework is super easy & interesting to do. He's very nice & provides great feedback. He truly cares about his students & the material he is teaching.
Professor Seed is one of the best!! His lectures are provided with lots of great information making it interesting (even if you weren't interested to begin with) and profound. I wasn't too excited to take an art history but I found I always wanted to go to his class and ended up loving it! Definitely recommend Professor Seed!
LOVE PROFESSOR SEED! I took his 102H class last semester. It was so beautiful and inspirational that I decided to take him again this semester for 103H. I would highly recommend Honors students to take his section. His honor project is super enjoyable. You all need to take professor Seed, he's super cool!
This is a low stress class. No textbook to buy. Do the assignments as instructed on time , and participate in discussions. This is an easy A, and you can learn about art too. I recommend taking this class.
On 103H, book is not mandatory. He will provide you with a series of videos that complement the book chapters. They are very entertaining. Love this class!
This professor is fantastic! There is no textbook required in the class nor is there homework, there are 3 art critique essays throughout the semester, a midterm paper and a final. Professor Seed is passionate about art and that is something that becomes very evident. I've walked away from this class with a great appreciation for art.
John's Intro Into Modernism lecture is magical.
Very kind professor who really cares about the students. His class was super easy and very informative. Gave weekly quizzes online that were super easy because all the answers were on the textbook word by word. Very little and easy hw. Lecture consists of analyzing history and art by having a class discussion about everyones opinions. Easy class.
He's a pretty simple guy. Being yourself, writing in your journal, and turning in the assignments is all you have to do to pass the class. The work is not hard at all.
Fantastic professor who wants his students to really think and appreciate art. Lecture heavy and fun, Professor John Seed provides a learning environment that is stress-free and enjoyable.
VERY passionate teacher. He is funny and enjoys what he does. After this year he will be retiring and becoming an art curator. It's unfortunate that I was only able to take one class with him, he's an amazing teacher.
Taking this online class during the summer, I found it well-organized, fast-paced, and lots of work at once. Seed is very passionate about his field and he covers a variety of topics. During this course, we watched lots of videos and some reading, in which you take notes, have commentary, and discussion questions. Extra credit was given in the beg
Professor Seed was by FAR my favourite professor I have ever had. I am incredibly sad that he is retiring because I would definitely take more classes from him. I never took an interest in paintings or works of art (except film) before his class and because of him, I have a newfound appreciation for art :) Easy A if you put forth the effort.
Great professor! I always looked forward to going to his class each week!
His syllabus is very accurate and as long as you do the work and discussions, its an easy A. He made learning art in 6 weeks very enjoyable. I would definitely take him again if he offered to teach other classes. No book needed, which is awesome!
John is a great professor but there is A LOT of homework.
Great professor, be aware he takes a while to answer emails.
Very clear on directions, very nice and as long as you do the work you will get an easy A. 250 word focus essay every week. Discussions every Friday with 3 replies. Notes & Commentaries on Art History Videos by Khan Academy. I finish a weeks work in one day to focus on my other classes, very convienent.
He's amazing, I passed the class with over 100%. He is very open-minded and very respectful when it comes to students who don't really know anything about art. I would definitely recommend him. I took the 8-weeks course. Yes, a lot of work. a lot of videos and notes but it's an easy class.
He's a very laid back teacher! This was my first semester in college and I was really stressing; I would rush through everything and he taught me to slow down. He's very kind and understanding. There is a decent amount of assignments you must do ( watching videos and taking notes + discussion boards ) but just manage your time and it's an easy A!!
Professor Seed is incredible and this class was curated phenomenally. Was probably the most interesting class I've ever taken and I had little to no interest in art beforehand. There is quite a bit of writing, but the subject matter is awesome. The class also really improved my writing and analytical skills. Easy and satisfying A!
There is not one reason to not take his class. I took it in 8 weeks, and it was such a breeze and I also thought that it was pretty fun! Not a harsh grader at all as long as you are paying attention and staying active in the course.
Professor Seed was a good professor as long as you participated and did his work, there are commentary, discussion posts, and mini-focus essays every two weeks so he gives you a lot of time to do his work, no midterms, just 4 final mini essays that are a breeze to do. He does give heavy feedback and actually reads the work so beware of grading!
Professor Seed was great. This class is easy, as long as you stay on top of the discussions and papers, because there are a lot of them.
This online class was very manageable and had very easy instructions. I always liked the comments he put even if they were short and it shows you he actually reads your work and cares. He is an amazing grader. He grades fast and not harshly, and you will definitely get an A if you put in the effort. I would take this course again.
Great Professor. Super easy you just have to read the material and do a quick summary for each video you watch. Try to do work some time day by day if you are taking a short term. It is a lot of work for short term classes. Remember some short term classes are not easy and are double the work like a full term class! But overall easy to do!
A cold old man I had sudden health issues a chronic illness I communicated trying to work with him while I was inNout of the HOSPITAL and he said my minor misspelling from being heavily medicated that im careless, wouldnt respond to my comments abt my health, he told me I get no special treatment from him or help and I should drop his class then
This had to be one of the worst classes i've taken. There's no textbook so you're forced to watch videos with terrible audio and video quality to the point you're pausing and rewinding multiple times. Just use a textbook why waste everyone's time with videos?
Professor Seed has been amazing this term, and I especially appreciate his useful feedback.
I really enjoyed this class, It was very easy and Professor Seed gives awesome feedback. He's very easy to communicate with. The work isn't too heavy, be prepared to read short articles and watch short videos each week. He doesn't accept late work, however, his assignments are pretty is so it isn't so bad.
