An enjoyable lecturer; makes class fun; very approchable;
Always willing to answer questions. Made class very entertaining, and made material easy to understand. Would highly recommed to other students.
rushhh....he is amazing teacher
Awesome teacher! Would recommend for any class. Kept the class entertained, but we still learned alot. Never went completely off topic but kept everyones attention very well. Very smart, such a cutie, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Awesome teacher. Goes slow to makes sure you understand, will always answer questions, willing to work with you, has straightforward tests if you study and is hilarious. We even got to listen to the Tigers in lab once. I wanted to switch my major from bio to chem just to take more of his classes. Highlky recommended.
Professor Seeley is seriously an amazing teacher. He takes a hard subject and presents it in the clearest way possible. He has a great sense of humor and his one liners are usually very funny. He is always willing to help too. I would recommend taking him for the lecture, lab and any other class that he teaches. Great!
Seeley is a GREAT professor!!! It's always good to have a really funny professor teaching a hard subject! Make sure you keep up on the homework, because his exams (that aren't curved) are all that count!
Great teacher- very clear about expectations! Too bad I only had him for the lab portion of CHM 158. I would much rather have him for the class but I got stuck with Gendell. The lab is not easy- a few quizzes and lab practicals, but he makes it bearable. Emphasizes safety and lets you work in groups. Very clear no surprizes. Highly recommended
He is the best Chem professor I've ever had. He is a good teacher and he is funny, so going to class is fun. I recommend doing a lot of problems, understand the concepts, and go to SI if you can and you should do well. I highly recommend him.
Seeley is the best Chem teacher you will find. I had chem 1 at MCC and struggled, Seeley is making this class fun to go to and has a great lecture ability. I dont know if he's making the class too easy or making the material just that simple to understand... SIGN UP NOW. He puts Chem into english, instead of english to chem
Professor Seeley is the best chemistry professor I have ever had. He makes lectures interesting ( as interesting as gen-chem can be ). Definitely take him if you get a chance
Best teacher ever!!! Makes chemistry funny and understandable. He uses a lot of analogies most of which invole alcohol....very funny guy, awesome class, stay on top of the homework and you will get a 4.0. Highly recommend Seeley
he is the man!
seeley is all jokes but he gives great notes but his tests are no joke, mess up one calculation and that answer will be 1 of the multiple choice options. tests are forgiving at all, only 20 questions which make up 20% of your grade. no hw grade but you will be doing alot of it.he drops a test score which is good and curves the final.got 3.6 overall
Not the best professor. He jokes around in class and the notes can be confusing. Tests are hard and you are only graded on test and the lab.
Great professor. Knows what he's talking about. The class consists of 4 tests(lowest grade dropped)and a standardized final which he doesn't even like. Do the practice problems he gives you and ask him questions about the homework and lab work. He is extremely helpful and likes to see his students succeed. Funny guy. I got a 4.0 in his class easily
4 exams, a cumulative final, and a lab grade. Lectures are well organized and his notes are clear and relevant. He's clear about types of problems that will be on the exams and they are typically exactly like the ones assigned for homework. You have to know how to do the problems in the book to do well on exams.
He is a horrible chem Prof!! he does not give slideshows, and his notes are all over the place. writes on more than one board at a time, leaving many problems incomplete. doesnt drop the lowest test score, and grade is just lab, three exams and a final. Avoid!!
His notes are all on the board, none on power point! No homework/quiz grades. That makes your tests (all 3 of them only 20 questions each) weigh so much more than they should (20% per test). DOESN'T drop lowest test grade. His tests are hard, he doesn't teach well enough for that. no extra cred. There are better prof. with better grading system.
Very difficult; do not recommend. You may think that only 3 tests, an ACS final, and a lab are enough but they are not; homework and quizzes would have helped my grade. Notes were scattered on the chalkboard. If you do take this prof. Study very hard and do a little every day.
Seeley is a very funny guy and his lectures are easy to pay attention to and follow. He does lots of examples and notes on the board in class, so he explains everything well. Has sample exams from previous tests that are EXTREMELY helpful, if you study from those and pay attention in class, you will be fine. Take him if you can, he was great.
Professor was very funny and engaging. Lectures never felt like they dragged. He was understanding and helpful with lab, as well. Likes tricky questions, but in the lecture he'll usually give you a hint as to how he'll try and trick you.
Have for gen chem 1. He said he's the coach- the book is what is teaching you. Goes through PPT slides in class, posts them on moodle with study guides. A lot of material and only 20Q on tests, so you really have to know your stuff. A lot of concept-based questions, kind of out of nowhere. No graded HW, no quizzes. Some people would struggle.
Great guy. Funny and a good teacher. However, having your grade consist of four 20 point exams is a little nerve racking.
Seeley is by far my favorite professor. He keeps his lectures interesting by using examples we relate to and he's hilarious! the fact that the class was a 200 student lecture class and it was always pretty full should tell you something. He's great!
Profossor John is funny and down-to-earth, however, his class was so difficult to pass. His lectures were disorganized and boring, so you have to teach your self out of the book. My grade would be way better if he had homework and quizzes. The course consists of only four exams and they are extremely hard. Avoid him!
How is it that I got a 4.0 in Biology and BARELY got a 2.0 in Seeley's class? He is NO HELP. He lectures on the easy stuff for an hour but when it comes to the hard stuff he breezes through it. I went to every single lecture and did extremely poorly on every test even though I've had pretty decent exposure to chemistry in the past. Do not take him.
He's a good lecturer, very funny, but if you check-outzone-out of class for even half an hour you'll get lost. If chemistry doesn't come easily to you, you'll have a rough time with this class. STUDY. He makes it clear that he's not willing to help with your grade. (Which is based on 4 tests; 3 of which are 20 questions. He does drop one though)
I took AP Chemistry last year, so I didn't have to study for this class at all. However, he does present the material in a clear manner and is a great professor. He's really funny and nice. He lets you drop your lowest test score which is very helpful.
Class based on 4 exams. No homework. No quizes. No labs. No extra credit. Being honest. Worked very hard and didnt pass. Exams are tricky, even if you know the material, little things will mess you up, they are only 20 questions so you cant really get many wrong. Just being honest. I chose this professor based on his previous ratings. DONT
He is a very hard grader. His tests are only 20 questions but worth tons of points.
Worst professor i've ever had. The class is based off of 3 20 question test that are all trick questions. The only people that get 3.5-4.0 were people that took the class before. Didn't allow me to retake a test i missed due to a family emergency. Highly don't recommend unless your a genius in chemistry.
Funny guy but not a great teacher. Lectures are long and boring and don't really help with understanding the material at all. He bases the grade off 3, 20 question tests that are hard. After doing poorly on the first exam, seeley told us that he doesn't usually see an upward trend, and suggested that we drop.
Took ap chemistry before and I only studied the night before each exam. He's a decent teacher. Everyone who's complaining just don't understand the subject. It's not the teacher's fault. Three tests, one exam. Can drop one test. The only problem is each test is only 20 questions so each question wrong is 5% off. Overall okay. Easy 4 if you study.
I understood the material, got a 4.0 in lab and still failed the class. 3 exams (drops lowest, 20 questions each & final. The final is ACS final he claims other classes take but don't. He makes it impossible to do well & tries way to hard to catch cheaters. I would rather get my teeth pulled than take an exam in this class. No homework, no quizzes
He always seemed afraid of being condescending but, I appreciated the review of basic concepts. Presentations were logical and easy to follow. Wish I had gen chem with him.
He drops the lowest test score but it doesn't do much to help. He expects a lot. The final exam is killer. He is the only professor to give the ACS exam. He does curve but it only helps a few. The exams are short so if you miss one it hurts the grade.
The material in the course is not as bad as I thought it would be. I would recommend attending his recitation. He does not give out any hints but he will answer your questions. Tests are tough and easy to lose grade as there are only 20-25 questions. The final exam is very very tough. He curved the exams.
I took ap Chem in high school so this class was a breeze for me. Seeley was a great teacher and although there are only three exams, they aren't too bad. Yes, they are short, but STUDY and you'll be fine. It's not Seeley's fault that Chem is a hard subject for people. Final is challenging so make sure your exam grades are high!
He makes the class enjoyable with his lecturing style but he is very hands-off and its up to you to put in the work. You need to do the suggested homework problems and practice tests in order to get a good grade. He thoroughly answers questions on these suggested assignments during his recitation which is very helpful.
Seem's like an alright guy, but I don't favor his teaching style. Three tough exams plus an even tougher final exam, that's it. I attended every lecture but ended up teaching myself from the book, barely passed with a 2.0. It probably didn't help that this was my first chem class ever.. His class is possible, but i feel he expects a lot from you.
Yooo this guy's chill and gives 3 tests the entire semester and one gets dropped. As long as you pay attention and do some problems (like half an hour a week) you'll get a 4.0 (90%) easy! He's funny sometimes and super lax, yeah a little boring to listen to but its the material and he repeats himself to make sure you get it. Super nice guy!!!
Seeley is a great professor. He gives clear lectures and does his best to make sure you understand the material. It is a lecture class so i suggest you meet with him during office hours and or set up an appointment, he is more than willing to help. Chemistry is a tough course, there's no way around it.
Seeley was funny, but chem and I are not friends, and he didn't help us become better acquainted. Huge lecture's don't really help to ask questions during class, and your grade is based off of 3 tests because he drops 1 (lowest) test grade. Around 20 questions per test, & the final is a national exam-so it's easy to do bad in the class.
For the most part this class was boring. He is funny and nice if you need any help but prepare yourself because it is a super long class.
Professor Seeley is a great professor for someone who has already been exposed to chemistry and feels somewhat comfortable with it! Although your grade is solely 3 tests and the final (lowest test grade gets dropped), he provides old exams and sample test questions so you are prepared! I recommend going to his office hours! He is a great guy!
He is one of the best professors at OU. I would not say an easy A but if you work hard, you should receive a high grade. Don't skip any of his lectures. The first and third tests are the easiest, so make sure you study hard to earn a 4.0 on them. The ACS final was easy I scored 109% on the final. The second test is challenging so careful! Goodluck
Happy I didnt fail the class, but I still have a horrible grade and I need to retake it. His class is tough because its only on exams and one final. He drops an exam but if he had extra GRADED homework, quizzes, etc, my grade wouldve been alot better. He's helpful but you have to study hard. I put so much effort into studying and still did terrible
Seeley is a phenomenal professor. His lectures are very understandable. He provides study guides for each exam with suggested practice problems from the book. There are three semester exams and he will drop the lowest one. You will take the ACS final, its not that bad if you study. He is hilarious and I'm mad he's not teaching CHM145 in the winter.
He's a funny professor but his exams are very hard and especially test 2. There are 3 exams and 1 final and drops the lowest one but it really doesn't help. To pass the exam you really need to know the equations to solving very well and need to know what to use when. Most of his exams are all problem solving I love math but did bad in his class.
Great instructor, difficult class. Buy american chemical society gen chem 1 study guide to study for final, which is impossible.
His lectures are long but he tries to squeeze in awkward jokes to lighten the mood. He has 3 exams plus a final. His 3 regular exams are no longer than 22 questions and you get an hour. The 1st and 3rd are easy and my advice for the second... STUDY! He drops the lowest regular exam though. Final is curved. Mine was 70 questions graded out of 57
Seeley is a great professor overall. He is funny and really knows how to keep the class engaged, but if you are not someone who is familiar with chemistry, this class will NOT be easy for you whatsoever. Definitely not a beginners class. I worked harder than I have for any other class and only ended with a 2.7, but a 4.0 is definitely possible!
Loved the teacher and the class. The tests weren't easy but that's to be expected with a Chem class. No homework or quizzes, but read the book, take notes, and take advantage of the exam reviews if you want a good grade.
He's very straight forward about what he wants which is great. Lectures are long but easy to understand. If you are willing to put in the work you'll do great. He does his best to make Chem interesting even though it is a harder subject. Great professor overall, wish he taught the second section of Chem as well.
If you skip this class, you will not pass. He lectures are long and boring but he gives good examples if the material. CHM 144 is a hard class and his exams were extremely hard. he drops the lowest of the 3 and gives a final that he didn't write. second exam is the hardest in my opinion
Great guy. Great professor. Extremely helpful in every respect. Even in undergrad classes he treats you like an adult and often jokes to liven up the class if he sees things going a little to slow. He knows the material inside and out and he teaches it extremely well. It's a hard class but I would definitely recommend him for anyone taking a chemistry class at OU.
Seeley is a great chem professor. He's nice and witty. He teaches at a slow enough rate for everyone to actually understand and learn the subject and clarifies if you have any questions. Study his past tests since all the questions from his exams are the same type of questions asked in his old tests. Easy A if you attend and study the old tests.
TAKE HIM! amazing lectures (although sometimes boring if you're not chemphilic) but he makes the material easy to grasp. Seriously, stop looking and take himmm! I hated chem before him, hes nice and drops an exam so you have some room should your grade need it. Look at the old exams; that's where he pulls questions from. Goodluck!
Seeley genuinely cares and likes teaching and it shows up in his lectures. Although I hate chemistry and it was extremely hard, he was a good professor. He has a good sense of humor and uses a lot of real-world examples in his teaching. However, this class is very challenging so even though he's a good professor, be prepared to work.
He is honestly an angel. Every exam is the same thing as his practice exams mixed together. Easy 4.0. I didn't even go to the lectures, just studied his previous exams and his powerpoints.
Seeley is a great guy. He loves to teach, he's funny, and he uses lots of metaphors to help you understand the concepts. I would definitely recommend taking his class. Study the old exams he posts on moodle and go through his powerpoints and it should be a pretty easy class.
Professor Seeley really takes his time to explain difficult concepts and makes sure everyone who cares understands. You must do the homework assigned in order to do well. Tests are straight forward and exactly what you'd expect from what he teaches in class. He's very understanding about other commitments you might have and will work with you.
dr. seeley is the man. currently taking chm 144 in summer session. he does not try to trick you on tests. he's very straightforward with his expectations and gives you the tools to succeed. as long as you do what he recommends to study for tests you will be fine. you need to invest a little bit of time but you'll do super well if you do.
Great teacher. He's very funny and excellent at explaining concepts. Very clear on what he expects you to know on tests. I wish he was teaching organic chemistry, I'd take him for all my classes if I could.
John is great. His self deprecating jokes are hilarious. He gives great explanations, analogies, and works through problems in class. He goes slowly through the material so it's easy to follow along. He gives great study guides and access to his past exams. Study and you'll do great! He curves almost every exam, and our final was curved generously.
Chemistry is a hard subject in general, but he makes it as bearable as it can be. Makes lecture enjoyable and funny. There are three tests and a final, so it is easy to do bad (also easy to do good). Gives old tests that are similar and practice problems. Lets you know his expectations from the start. Take the time to study and you'll do fine!
It was a great class! Lectures were sometimes long but he made them interesting especially with his life stories which passed time. The material was forward. He provided notes as slides and put previous tests on moodle. For exams, make sure you study the material as well. The book's practice questions really helps with exams and he goes over ?'s
His lectures sometimes can be very long however he tries to make the best of it. He explains everything very well. What I liked the most was that he posts on Moodle past exams that he's given to students in previous semesters. This honestly saves your life. Those exams are such good practice because they are very similar to what he gives.
I deeply regret taking this professor after reading positive comments. His lectures are hard to understand . There is no online homework, therefore no points for doing homework. Test scores are only way to pass this course, which are hard since he is not good at lecturing . Never going to take this guy again.
Took this professor for the second time after getting 3.8 in chm 1, decided to take him again for chm 2. Wrong choice on my end. Chm 2 was horrible- after he admitted not teaching this class for awhile, grades were only based on 3 test and the final, getting to drop one test. he cares but its horrible at teaching this subject
Dr. Seeley is a good teacher. Chemistry isnt an easy class and you have to put in the time and do a lot of problems to reinforce the equations and concepts. Dr. Seeley always makes it very clear what will be on his tests, and he also goes over all the ways you might make a mistake on the test, so you know all of the gotchas along the way.
I had him for chem 1 (GOT 4.0) so I retook him for chem II. I must say he was much better teaching chem I, more enthusiastic and overall a better teacher than for chem II. I still managed to get 3.9 but I put in a lot more work. Go to every class and make sure you do the homework! Overall he's great and no complaints on my part.
Best professor ever
I love him! He offers a TON of extra credit and drops your lowest exam grade. Go to his office hours and he'll your grade into consideration. His lectures and powerpoints are clear and he old posts old exams that help TON.
if u try ur guaranteed a 4.0. really funny during lectures even tho theyre long. exams r straight forward n he doesnt mess around tells u everything from the jump. Study slides PRACTICE PROBLEMS and look at past exams those r really similar to the actual exam. drops lowest exam. doesn't use ACS final anymore.
LOVED the way he was straight forward with what is on the test. Drops lost text grade too. I would take his class again.
honestly such a good professor. he makes a 2 hour lecture fun with his jokes and really makes you understand the material. exams are very straightforward and he gives u all the materials you need to get a 4.0 with practice exams similar to the exam and study guides. best prof! also drops lowest exam. grade is only 2 exams and the final tho
Dr. Seeley's class is tough but he is better than any other chem professor at OU which isn't saying much. Grade is based on 4 exams and he drops the lowest one (except the final). The only good thing about his class is that he posts previous exams which are similar to the actual exam.
Honestly, I'm currently sitting in the first day of class and all he has talked about is the syllabus so far. HOWEVER, he is amazing. I already like him and he's not boring. I would recommend taking him. Based on the way he talked about his syllabus I would take him again.
By far the best teacher Ive had at OU so far. His lectures were entertaining and he had a pretty good sense of humor. Wish he taught more classes. Tests were straightforward and he always told you ways you might make mistakes when he was teaching the material so you know what to watch out for. Other teachers I have had over complicate stuff.
While seeley is nice, his lectures are dreadfully boring, the chem department at OU is not great, and hes the best of it. His exams blindside you with unexpected material
I love chemistry and Seeley made this class enjoyable for the 2 hour lecture, super straightforward, curve on tests ends up bringing up your grade a lot, easy to 4.0 this class as long as you do the practice problems and look at the past tests (they're almost exactly like the exams you'll take in class), best person ever
This class was not the easiest for me, but he gives you every resource to be successful in his class. He makes two hour lectures tolerable, would highly recommend him to anyone!
Yoooo this guy is the best. PLEASE disregard everyone else's reviews. THIS is your sign to take him. He is actually hilarious in lectures, so they are never a drag to go. AND Seeley literally gives you all the material you need to get an A such as: PREVIOUS EXAMS AND ANSWERS and the exams you take ARE LEGIT THE SAME QUESTIONS BUT DIFFERENT NUMBERS.
Lectures are better due to his comedy.
Seeley is an amazing professor. He is very clear and makes chem so easy. He drops one of the exams but it really doesn't matter because his exams are so easy. He posts past exams and changes up the numbers a little for the real exams. Take him!!
I really liked having Prof Seeley! I went into chemistry thinking that it would be super difficult and that I wouldn't like it, but he makes things very clear and easy to understand. I literally have a 4.0 in the class, and he says himself that it is easy to 4.0 as long as you pay attention and put the work into the class. Wish he taught chem II
Didn't show up to most of the lectures and still ended with a low A. The tests he puts online from the past are similar to current tests, just changes the conceptual questions and changes numbers around on the math problems. The past tests are great study tools along with the online slides. Didn't touch the book once so don't bother buying no cap
AMAZING PROFESSOR! So funny, straight forward & very nice. His lectures can make u sleepy sometimes lol but if you really pay attention he makes it so clear and easy to understand! The old exams he posts are sooo identical to his actual exams, 3 exams is what your grade is based on and if u take the final the lowest score drops. if u study4.087%!
I never understood chemistry before I took it with Seeley. His lectures were funny, engaging, and easy to understand. Your grade is determined by tests, so if you dont go to the lectures and understand whats going on, you wont pass. The tests are super reasonable, too. If you put in reasonable work, its an easy A.
He's really funny and nice. Chemistry itself isn't the most interesting to sit through, so you can't expect to find a perfect professor for the class, but Seeley is as close as you'll get. He gives you exams from previous years to study from, and they're almost identical to the actual exams. Do the recommended problems. Exams are easy if you study
I was pondering my existence at OU and considering quitting school on my first day of class. Then Dr. Seeley walked in and within 15 minutes I was laughing and glad to be there. Hes a good teacher who makes the class fun and has a good rapport with the students. Its chemistry so you have to put in the work, but you wont find a better teacher.
He is as funny as people say, but is very real and down-to-earth. He wants students to succeed and goes out of his way to do so. CHM 3250 is brutally boring but, as I tell people, at least I had Professor Seeley.
Analytical Chemistry is dreadfully boring but Professor Seeley made every lecture interesting. Easily the funniest professor Ive ever had, and one who truly cares for every student. It was a very manageable workload and fair tests, with previous years tests to study. Professor Seeley is one of the best at OU, so take him if you get the chance.
Dr. Seeley is a great professor and gives you much things to study off of. I managed to get an A in his course by completing the practice problems he assigns us that are located at the back of each chapter and by taking the exams he gives us from previous semesters. Take Dr. Seeley
Professor Seeley is such a nice and helpful guy! Chem isn't an easy class but he is AMAZING at explaining things. He is super funny and keeps lectures interesting too, and his recitations are very helpful. the only down side is your grade is based off 3 tests, but if you study hard, you will have no problem getting a good grade!
Seeley is the MAN. He gives previous years' exams to study from and explains things super well. Your grade is based on the 3 exams, but if you learn the old exams and just have an understanding of the concepts, you will do fine. He lets you drop lowest exam score. Seeley is hilarious. I would highly recommend, especially given how hard gen chem is
Professor Seeley is a really great chemistry professor, they way he conducts his lectures are great. Keep up with the material (study 2-3 times a week for 2+ hours) you should be able to pass his class! No mandatory homework and only graded on tests. He drops your worst test score and curved last two exams for our class.
Prof Seeley did a really good job converting to Online w/COVID. I almost preferred his online lectures more bc you can rewatch them. If you take in-person, record lecs and pay attention! The class is graded by 3 tests (you take 4). If you go to class and DO THE BOOK HW, you should do well. Class expectations are as expected and clearly laid out!
John is a GREAT professor. He is very thorough and makes the best of his lectures. He is relatable when certain topics are bland and harder to understand and makes them more interesting. I wish I could take John for every Chemistry class that I have to take.
You can tell that Dr. Seeley truly cares for his students. Make the conscious effort to take notes at his lectures and do the homework (you'll get to see his cats make a cameo). Due to the COVID crisis, he was kind enough to grant an extra credit quiz, which he never does! My suggestion is to print his slides and write on them to take notes!
So nervous for the final in Gen Chem 2 I threw up while studying! Hard class. Mostly since it was online
He did this class asynchronously which I enjoyed. It was pretty time consuming to watch all the lectures and go through the practice questions but it pays off for the quizzes. If you put in the work you will do well. He made his lectures somewhat entertaining and explained everything really well. He isn't the best at getting back to emails though.
He is a great prof!!! I had him for both CHM 1&2, this class is very challenging but that is just bc of the amount of content. I actually really preferred this class being online rather than in person. Seeley makes great videos and provides a TON of helpful videos. He gives one quiz a week (wk 1-13), extra credit ( wk 14), and a final (wk 15).
I had Dr. Seeley for both Chem 1 & 2 and I believe he is truly the best chem professor ever. Chem 2 is very hard so make sure you keep up with the content and practice. Practicing material is the most important in order to succeed in any chemistry course. Make sure you take Dr. Seeley.
MR. Seeley literally did, and explained, every single problem that he asked us to do, including lecture, homework and test problems. This made learning the material a cake walk. Additionally, he has mild humor in his lectures.
If you struggle with chemistry, do not take this prof. Some of the most disorganized lectures I have ever watched. Graded only on weekly quizzes and the final exam. Better off finding a better professor.
Prof. Seeley was the highlight of my second semester. The class consists of all pre-recorded lecture videos, however they are very detailed, and highlight all of the problems asked on quizzes and exams. No annoying online proctoring was required on quizzes or exams, and Prof. Seeley listed all of the key concepts in a "study guide" fashion.
I'm going to be totally honest with you, most students that are giving him a good review are probably good at chem. Most student that took this class ended up with a C-C+. When taking the final many got below a 55%. Don't look at these reviews and expect to be fine! This class is hard and you need to work really really hard for it. Only quizzes!!!
It was extremely difficult if you do not spend at least 12 hours on it on top of attending tutoring weekly to make sense of the topics. All this class is graded on is twelve-ish quizzes and the final, no homework. The majority of my class 'failed,' like a C- and lower. Make sure to get help early if you are struggling as it makes the difference!!
One of the best professors, explained things in a way that was easy to comprehend. Make sure to set plenty of time aside to dedicate towards this course, putting time into it is necessary for success. Hes also pretty funny and gives extra credit quizzes. Highly recommend him.
Unbelievable how disorganized this professor is. Exams are only forward only do not take him
I know Chem 2 is a difficult class but Seeley was just making it more difficult. His lectures are really long and honestly not that helpful. He gives homework that isn't graded the only thing that goes into our grade are the 4 exams and quizzes that are given every week. If you don't teach yourself for this class it's going to be very hard to pass.
WORST PROFESSOR- DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I cant stress that enough. Class based on 4 exams and final, long lectures, non-mandatory homework (no credit is given for it). Studied for hours a week, but hes not a good professor. If no one else is available wait to take chem1450 another semester. His grading system is wack.
Here's the truth, Prof Seeley is an okay professor. But this class is solely performance-based, so you have to perform extremely well on exams to do well in the class. I learned how to study for his exams about halfway in, but by then it was too late. Do all the ungraded assignments and you will do well in the course point blank period.
When I say this guy is a whole mess, I mean it. His lectures are some of the most unorganized videos I have ever watched in college, along with the unnecessary rambling about random things, such as his favorite Mario characters. If you figure out the formula of how to study for his exams (basically old test questions rewritten lazily) DO NOT TAKE!!
just no
Terrible. Do not recommend him. Take somebody else to save your grade.
The class is hybrid, all lectures are on Moodle, and you just come in for questions or quizzes. I did not go to any recitation, but I know how to study, and that is an essential skill here. It was so hard motivating myself to watch the lectures, but the past test questions he gives were the best. Be comfortable with equations and math
If you have not registered for Mr. Seeley's class, I would advise against it. His quizzes are not always similar to the hours on hours of lectures you watch to prepare yourself. For those who already are registered, please for your own sake, watch the lecture videos in 2x speed.
He is the best. No homework. The class is online, but you have to go in person for his quizzes and the final. He provided good resources to use for studying the quizzes, such as old test questions. He also curves almost all the time, and if your final exam grade is higher than one of your quizzes, he will replace it with that score. Take him!!
He could be a good professor. However, his class is a flipped classroom type. I only came in for tests/finals. All his lectures are online and while they are helpful, they are also really long and it might be hard to motivate yourself to watch them if you have other classes to worry about. Small curves on tests though. I just don't like chemistry
I had him for Gen Chem 1 as well, and these are run the exact same way. But, I love how consistent he is, and how the quizzes are very very similar to the practice questions he gives. The final exam is intimidating, but just study the quizzes well! Very fair and hilarious professor!
As a Gen Chem class, it should not be this difficult. You are ONLY graded on tests and the final exam. I have been to a recitation and he literally said that 60% of his class is failing. I am doing well in all my other classes AND the Lab for this class, its just this class. It would be way better if he graded homework but he doesn't.
Lectures prerecorded, recitation is optional if you need extra help, quizzes in person. Great at explaining material. Makes hilarious comments & his cats will make guest appearances from time to time (I love that). So personable! Take thorough notes, do the homework & old test questions & you will pass. He gives you everything you need & more.
His lectures are genuinely great, just put them on 2x-3x speed. Take notes during lecture, do the homework, do the practice quizzes, and his tests will be a breeze. The only grades you get are from tests, but each one gets curved by 7% on average, so for some that can be tough but his tests are not that hard.
As someone who was coming back to chem from a 3 year break, this experience has been terrible. He doesn't fully explain his thinking and the grade is based solely off of quizzes. He is constantly changing steps in his lecture and is not consistent when he teaches. He does respond to emails quickly and in detail. He also tends to curve quiz grades
I took both Chem 1 and Chem 2 classes with him. His Chem 1 class was fine. However, His Chem 2 class was a different story. I get that Chem 2 can be challenging but his quizzes this time seem poorly written and tricky (basically poorly written old test questions). Lectures also feel way more disorganized. I do not recommend taking his Chem 2 class.
Professor Seeley has a very specific teaching style that requires active engagement. While the exams can be intimidating, using resources like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook and practice questions can help you succeed. Attendance is key, but the class is doable with diligent preparation.
It's not that John Seely's a bad guy, but his instruction through online lectures can get very confusing at times to where you're better off using other resources. Then that leaves you scrambling with little time for the quizzes every other week which are 12 questions (usually curved to 11) but it's hard. This class was the hardest I've taken.
I enjoyed this class. the asynchronous set up was nice. I learned a lot this semester, and I enjoyed Professor Seeley's teaching style. But I know I'm going to score low in the class. The ONLY grade in the book is exams, and he doesn't even drop one. Says he wants to help us learn and not just memorize info then why grade like that:(
This professor is amazing i loved him so much and i cannot recommend him enough. His recorded lectures make the class easy to navigate at your own pace. He is so so funny and is very straight forward about what is necessary for class.
Great professor but your grade is literally 100% quizzes and exams. He is very approachable and if you go to the Q & A class periods he is great with answering questions and working one on one.
best prof, wish he taught ochem. lectures are all recorded so only take him if you're confident in online learning. read the book, it will help you piece things together. practice problems are essential to pass. if you put in effort you will pass w a good grade. he will thoroughly help you as long as you ask questions. also v funny
i'm gonna be real to whoever reads this. yes, take him if u get the option. i was about to switch out of my major after failing chem once, i couldn't do it, nothing made sense. after i took his class i still remember his lectures and passed. All you have to do is practice the powerpoint ex and practice test. you will be golden
the best chem teacher i've ever had. taking gen chem ii with him as my professor was a pleasure!! i've never understood chemistry like i have in his class, and i never once showed up to class. watch the online lectures on 2x speed, do the homework, the class will be a breeze.
I was very nervous going into this class knowing our entire grade came from exam scores, but it sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. If you do the practice problems he suggests and study the old exam questions he posts you will do amazing. It is also possible to get over 100 on each exam so you can score a few extra points!
I did not like the teaching style and he also only grades test and noting else
Great chemistry professor, all lectures are posted online so you're always able to go ahead. Lectures are simplified and focused on the important information, but some lectures are very long. The only grades are 6 quizzes, 1 extra credit quiz, and the final exam. Gives recitation days every other week for questions, and is very willing to explain.
6 quizzes 1 final, watch the lectures and do the problems yourself to make sure you learned it, if you have questions email him he gets back fairly quick or go to recitation, because you learn it all online it's easy to be lazy (DONT) he curves each quiz and the class isnt too hard if you practice, its very easy to finish with a good grade.
If you want to pass gen chem when taking it online, you have to push yourself to complete the lectures, homework questions and old test questions as its the only way you will score well on the quizzes. Dr. Seeley was great for me, his lectures turned out to be boring and long, however he explained everything well and will bump your grade up
Its been a year since iv had him as a professor, and I still remember his little sayings to help you remember concepts. Honestly he is that guy and all the other chem professors wish they were him. As long as you study his practice problems you'll do good.
He makes frequent mistakes in lectures, yet gives no room for mistakes since our entire grade is multiple-choice quizzes with no partial credit and no homework. I've put in so much time and still aren't doing well. He's funny but that means nothing. I don't know how he has good ratings because this class is way harder than it should be.
Avoid!!! This guy doesn't even know his own material (just try to watch his lectures).I've neglected my 4 other classes to focus on learning this class material, yet am still about to fail the course because he is unclear on everything that you will be tested on. Take literally any other chem professor at this school, because this guy is no good.
This dude was sent from hell. Every other week is a quiz and that's your whole grade. The only thing he recommends to "help" is doing the old tests he posts, so if you are stuck, good luck, go to google. I have taught myself everything, and all that has made clear for me is that I will not be becoming a teacher. Find a different prof.
Dr. Seeley does the job but do not expect him to do anymore. He does what he needs to get by and recycles videos from 4 years ago that are no longer relevant with some of the information in the textbook. In my opinion, wait to take CHM1450 with a different professor.
One of the worst chem teachers at OU, you'd have a better time with Chavez with how generous his curves are. material is extremely hard even with watching every video he posts, 90% of which were recorded 5 years ago. 6 quizzes and 1 cumulative final. formula sheet intentionally unorganized and quiz has trick answers, wait to take a better professor
This is an ONLINE class that has 1 day for recitation each week where you can come in and ask questions. The class is graded by 6 bi-weekly quizzes and 1 cumulative final (all in-person). Study the homework and old test questions multiple times. Watch his lectures in x2 speed and skip the parts where he rambles. Or take Hayden's class if possible.
