Good teacher, but for some reason, he will embarass students.
cool dude, hard course when u dont pay attention
Great professor, but his exams are impossible
No Comments
lots of reading, class participation is a must
He is a great professor, but his course requires that you pay attention and do a lot of reading. The tests are difficult, but not always your grade at the end if you work hard. He pretends to make things harder than they are. But overall very good.
Shannon's class is hard and the class average test score is about a 50, but at least he is funny. Arrogant too, thinks he is the ****.
oh come on....he's the nicest guy, u just better do ur work
He is a horrible teacher who doesn't care about his students. His stories stink and when it comes down to exam time he doesn't review. You need to take good notes and read the book to get a good grade in this class.
Professor Shannon grades based upon three multiple choice exams. If you don't do well on those very difficult tests, forget it! As for class, you're luck if you can keep your eyes open, nevermind being focused!
coolest guy on this campus, knows his stuff. gotta read before every class but it aint much....exams are rough but doable...take him
Makes the class difficult so you learn your****...I suggest taking him even if the class doesnt interest you
if you want to keep a decent gpa, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He just lectures for 3 hours a week. It's sooo boring. take my advice, run while you still can
good guy, funny, intelligent class, but the worst grader ive ever had.
This guy is wonderful! His tests are reasonable if you follow his outlines. Too many teachers spoon feed their students and John Shannon doesn't. He has a background in law and knows what he's talking about... If you're serious about law - take him!
awesome guy, awesome personality, has a great way of teaching the class, gotta read before class but he doesn't pressure you into answering questions if you don't know the answers, tests are hard if you don't read, other than that, he's a great guy!
Made the mistake of taking this class as an elective since it fit into my schedule. Keeps you the whole time, three tests are extremely unfair, though he does have the curve working for you. I wouldn't take Drug and Alcohol Abuse again unless I had to.
Extremely intellegent guy, really keeps you on your toes but you won't mind because his class is very interesting. Good sense of humor and really gets to know students. His exams are difficult but he gives lots of other assignments to pull up your grade. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
great guy, funny, makes class very interesting, but he doesnt play around, you need to do the work
really good teacher. tough grader, but will help you if you need it. he forces you to think so you will learn what it means to think in the world of legal business. great personality and sense of humor. you won't feel left out in his class.
Very easy class, takes attendance so make sure u go. Class is easy though and he's really not that bad. I mean very boring, but the class is an easy A.
Not very clear with the course project. No tests but your main grade is a paper and presentation which is not easy, you have to work hard. If your the learning type, than take him.
I know he is involved in alot of ground brkg resurch .I found evidence he has also did some classified work for the millitary in the 70s. I gess this overstocked class he does must be a bore for him
Tough class, lots of reading. The bulk of the grade is a huge group project on which you don't really receive much guidance. Very interesting class, though, and you're learning really valuable stuff for the business world.
The class is very hard but you learn a lot. The tests just kill you.
After taking his class, I needed drugs and alcohol
He's a good guy, decent prof. The class isnt as hard as the other reviews say. Def. would recommend him
Extremely fair, dynamic professor teaching a tough subject but he does it well! I've learned a lot.
Probably the most intelligent teacher at Seton Hall. The man is extremly bright and has a charming humorus personallity to go along with his intelligence. An extremly hard teacher though. If you are looking for an easy grade i suggest taking someone else. You will need to be very active in class while studying for at least 5 hours for each test
not easy, but really nice person. actually learned a lot in this class. tests are hard, but it all works out in the end somehow, and u get a decent grade. DON'T expect an A though, he doesn't give As
GOOD TEACHER/ HARD CLASS. don't expect to pass the first test. class itself takes preparation. Somehow you end up with a good grade in the end but you really do have to study. The number grade you should get is not the one you do get. thank god! You have to work for your grade but you do take knowledge away from the course!
Shannon really is an excellent teacher. He is not an easy A in Legal Foundations, but you can get an A. He gave at least two A's and at least two A-'s in one class alone. But if you want one of those A's, expect to work a lot. You will learn a lot and have a good time doing it. He really makes the subject interesting and keeps it relevant.
Took drugs and alcohol course...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. Tests are insane, very few a's or b's in my entire class. He's a nice guy but this class is horrible.
A good teacher. I had him for social responsibility. It was just presentations but I learned alot in his class. A tough grader but you will learn alot.
Not an easy class, but doable. Read before each class and do ALL of the assignments and you shouldn't do too bad. Tests are very hard but he grades the work very easily. He's the smartest guy I know and I've never learned so much in a class.
Shannon is a great teacher. The class is very hard and you will have to do a lot of work if you want a good grade. Prof. Shannon makes the material interesting. My advice is to take the course if you want to learn something and are willing to do the work. If you are lazy and want an easy class then take someone else.
Very interesting class. You MUST read entire book on your own to do well on exams. Your grade for this class will certainly be lower than any other class. But he is a very interactive professor & you will come out a more knowledgeable person.
Overall Prof Shannon is a good guy and def knows his stuff. Not a big fan of his teaching style. He shows up and basically screws around on his laptop while he has people in class work in groups to do meaningless cases in front of the class. I am aware that the biz world is hands on but one must learn first. He does none of that.
Professor Shannon is professor who prides himself on providing as little help to students as he possibly can. Tests are impossible, you get a grade back but can not see what you got wrong, class is a pointless review of cases when a discussion of the principles and topics would be better. And for his wiki article he refuses to offer any assistance.
Dr. Shannon is VERY monotone, but he presents all the materials you need for tests on the power points. If you study the PP presentations, you'll ace the tests. He's very intelligent and I loved his class.
WEll your not gonna get a free pass with this guy, his material is very challenging, but you will learn alot from him because hes a wealth of info. If he puts you on the spot try to have something to add into the discussion because he will tear you apart if you dont.
Worst professor at Seton Hall. Prides himself on delivering no information to his students. Expects a lot of online based homework. Terrible attitude. Stay away!!
if you do not like class participation then do not take this class. tends to embarrass students on a daily basis. I dropped his class. awful
Shannon is pretty chill. this class is really easy if you don't mind talking. He doesn't give exams, so all you have to do is journals and discussion boards. He really cares about students thinking outside of the box. this is a super easy class. just go in and be confident Also read the cases. minimum B+ if you do the work
His class was a lot of work but as long as you do it, you'll do good. Was really funny and gets a pepper
He was really funny. He makes you more confident at the end of the class. READ the CASES before class. Do the Journals and Comments on time. Nice guy. Google is your friend in this class. Encourages Laptop use.
He makes the class really interesting and has sparked my interest in a career in law. If you do the work the class is not hard at all. There are no test not even a final just journals and discussion boards and class participation is really important. I would definitely take his class although it is a lot of work.
Professor Shannon is a really great professor and you'll learn a lot. However, if you don't know your material, he'll get upset. The quizzes are almost impossible though, so you have to study big time. Other than that, do the journals, blog posts, and participate in class and you'll do fine.
He gives a ton and a half of work but you will learn a lot in the class. Be prepared especially with court cases. Quizzes are rough. Overall just be prepared to work if you take his class he doesn't take bs at all and he will tell you that. The journals are pretty interesting if you pick a good topic. Not an easy A or even an easy B.
Do not take this class unless you have to. It's pretty informative if you read the book. If you study off of the powerpoints, then you should do ok on tests. But only OK. You basically go in blind because there's too much information to remember. It is not worth it. It will blind side you.
Professor Shannon's class is very tough, but you will learn a lot. The first quiz everyone failed then he realized he should make things easier and he made the next quizzes take home essay questions which was great. That speaks to the kind of prof he is. There were 3 quizzes, 7 annoying journal posts, and an optional final.
Honestly, Shannon is one of the best professors at Seton Hall. He has such an excellent grasp on the real world and does a wonderful job preparing us, in little ways, for the real world. Yes, the workload is sometimes overbearing but not impossible if you are willing to do the work.
I took him for international perspective and i thought this class was much too time consuming for a 2 credit course. He grades very harshly and it is very difficult to get an A on an assignment. It is really necessary to go above and beyond. I still ended up with an A-, but I really had to work my butt off to do so.
To be blunt, Professor Shannon is the man. Yes, he is a tough grader and you will have to work to do well in the class, but everything you learn from him and learn from the class is more than worth it. Definitely take a class with him before you leave Seton Hall.
Shannon is an overall great professor. He assigns a lot of work every week which can be overwhelming but when you put in the work you actually learn a lot from his class.
You will definitely learn through his class, make sure you do the readings before class he likes to randomly call on people and the more you participate without being called on the better you will do. Was a class you never wanted to skip because his lectures are that good.
He's an interesting guy with tons of experience in the field, but you are only graded on 4 things: Exams 1-3 and attendance. You might be thinking, "hey, only 3 exams!! That sounds fine!!" but the exams, although multiple choice, are much harder than you'd think. READ THE TEXTBOOK AND TAKE NOTES ON LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF HIS MOUTH
The guy really knows his stuff and makes the material very interesting. The class is divided into 3 tests and attendance, and the attendance can make or break your grade. The tests aren't easy, but they're not unbearable either. Study the power points and take good notes and it shouldn't be a problem. I had to work for it, but got an A.
Literally the BEST professor I have ever had. Prof. Shannon is an amazing man. He is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of law, not just business law. His lectures are captivating! You definitel have to work for your grade though. Not an easy class, but take him. He will change your whole perspective as a student! Makes me want to be a lawyer!
Easily one of the most charismatic and informative professors you'll ever come across. Also one of the most challenging. There is an incredible amount of work assigned that is often overwhelming, but one way or another, you'll have a solid understanding of everything.
If you want a teacher that will let you "coast" through class & receive a good grade w/o learning a lick, don't take his class. Shannon makes you work very hard for your grade and he gives you a nice dose of how the real world works. He's a bit tough but I promise you, he'll be the best teacher you'll ever have. You will get a lot out of this class
Although this professor requires work and time beyond what is expected, the result is definitely worth it. This professor not only relates the class to current events but also includes the class to participate in discussions and lectures. He's knowledgeable and critical yet laid back. His intentions are always to better students' opportunities!
Funny, smart man. Great to talk to. However, he gives too much work, and a lot of it is unconventional. His coursework is quite different from the average college class, not sure if it's good or not. It's a tough class, wouldn't recommend if taking other tough or time-consuming classes.
Professor Shannon is the most brilliant professor on the Seton Hall campus. He will challenge you to think differently, so keep an open mind. Lectures are AMAZING and work is extremely interesting, just be willing to work hard. Cannot recommend this guy more.
Professor Shannon is one of the most intelligent professors I have ever had. It is true that the work is plentiful but taking the course gives you a grasp into the real world, one he has been in for decades (as a lawyer). Taking this course will make you better off than all of your peers, and as long as you show effort you will succeed in class.
Professor Shannon has a difficult online class but it was very rewarding. It was an online class but Professor Shannon found a way to make it easy to participate. There were quizzes that were challenging but if you read, you were fine. Participating online was great where we had discussions and had to respond. We even had Microsoft Team calls.
I was in the Drug and Alcohol Abuse class. The class itself is interesting but the way that he talks makes it sometimes unbearable. There are only three exams though and none are cumulative. Attendance and participation are 25% of the grade.
Don't get me wrong, he looks like a great guy and is very intelligent, making the class as realistic as possible. I dropped after the first week because of the intense workload interfering with my other time-consuming classes. He wants you to post digital platforms rather than Word/Google Docs. Make sure you read and participate if you do take him.
one of the most boring classes I've taken. he just talks and gives powerpoints but theres so many slides and info. only 3 tests and attendance thats your grade. he tells you when the test is only a week before hand. i just read and highlighted powerpoints and got about B's. not the worst thing Ive ever done but definitely not easiesr
Professor Shannon is a great professor who loves what he does. His class is fairly easy but there only about 3-4 grades for the entire semester. He does not give out homework and hates giving out tests, which is a good thing for work load wise, but you better make sure you do well on whatever assignments he does give out to pass the class.
Great Professor, makes you work for your grade, but is also willing to help you if you truly don't know what you are doing. Get ready for constructive criticism, he doesn't hold his tongue but he does it to prepare for the real world. He doesn't do it to make you feel bad. He's honestly trying to help you as an individual. Would deff take again!!
Professor Shannon is a very nice man and knows what he is talking about. He expects his students to do 2 blogs every week a TID every two weeks on a topic of his choice and to read the chapters given (which are LONG) along with videos. This class taught me a lot but if you are not willing to put the time in for it you wont do well. Very hard grader
Professor Shannon is a nice person. His was of teaching makes you talk in his class. But the way he explains what he wants in his assignments is very poor. There are no exams which is a big plus. There are 2 case analysis and 2 case simulations.
Prof. Shannon allows his students to exhibit a lot of creativity and freedom in assignments. He is someone that values participation and pushes his students to think beyond the course material. He is a professor to take if you want to be challenged and more prepared for the world outside of class. Easily one of my best instructors.
Gives you a lot of busy work on a weekly basis that will be of little use in your future. Seems to lack knowledge of his own field.
Hardest graded, expects you to push your limits work ethics-wise. He is a great professor who is passionate to teach his students and push them to become better prepared for professional life. The class is insanely hard, but you gain a lot from this professor. If you are ready to work hard, then you will absolutely love it.
Good lectures and prof, but be prepared to do assignments that will take you hours or days to complete. There is a lot of writing in this course so get good at writing if you are not already! Participation matters so make sure you review the case facts and are ready to discuss them in class. Hint for a good grade: NEVER do the minimums! Good luck.
Listen, if you want to improve your work ethic and become a better student than you ever thought you could be, take him. However, if you care more about your GPA or social life, DO NOT! Very, very smart guy though. But his expectations for you are on Pluto.
Professor Shannon is a very nice guy, but a very tough grader. If you take this class, expect to write about 2000 words per week. Expects way too much from his students. If you're not a great writer avoid taking this class with him. I dropped this class after the first time we met because of the insane workload he described giving us.
The absolute best and easiest A for blaw, if you dont take him others will. Take your spot before its too late I got an A and barely did much. Highly recommended
I don't recommend this class at all. He is not friendly and way too tough of a grader. Dropped it after the first day. That was the best decision I made. I knew this class was going to be hard to begin with, but I found out I wasn't required to take this class, and I caught a major break. Good luck if you have to take this class with this professor
Prof. Shannon seems scary at first (as you might have read from other reviews) but he is a very smart and reasonable professor. He is a tough grader, but if you put in a reasonable amount of effort you will do well in his class. Very knowledgeable but also very opinionated. Would recommend taking him if you don't mind the extra effort
Prof Shannon's classes are designed in a way where if you put in a reasonable amount of effort you will do well. A big group project, 2 debates, and participation was what made up our grade. He can be a bit scary at first but he is reasonable when it comes to grading.
If you care about your grade, then he cares about it. Socratic method lectures in the class, will make it very obvious if you are not prepared ahead of class. A decent amount of work, but if you are interested in law, I would recommend so you can get a real taste of what law school will be like.
way too much work for a blaw class, save yourself time and choose somebody else. yes you will learn lots, but it's not worth it. don't get me wrong he's a very good professor, but it's different than your average class. if you don't mind getting a ton of work and readings, take this class, otherwise, don't.
horrible professor please avoid if possible. deducted points from our course project paper because of requirements that were NOT stated in the description. very unhelpful responses, does not use email to respond. criteria for grading makes it borderline impossible to get an A. obviously doesnt care about teaching and it shows in his course material
WAY TOO MUCH work for a 2 credit class.. He was unhelpful when you asked him questions, thinking he made it clear enough. His responses to student questions made 0 sense and his tone was very rude. Lastly, his exams are too long I barely had time to finish!
I'm not sure which stripper this guy paid to give him compliments to boost his ego. Man is so full of himself it makes it impossible to like him. Not even that, he grades based on personality, not on credibility. I don't care if he was dean in the past, he has a big attitude problem. With that being said, what he teaches isn't wrong.
Prof Shannon is a great guy. He knows what he is talking about and helps you if you don't understand. Then a bonus for him is he lets you use AI on every assignment. He believes that it's the future so you are ALLOWED to use it!!!! If possible you should definitely take him. He teaches you and prepares you for the future. Overall great guy.
