Its a straight-forward class if you do the practice tests and dont miss any class. He's a good teacher, likes to see you understand the material

He's great at breaking down the material in ways that we can understand. He relates the information to real-world scenarios, which makes learning the material much easier. As a non-accounting major, I actually enjoyed going to class. Make sure to read the chapters before class and do the homework.

The textbook is somewhat useful, but a good tip is to look over the professor's prior quizzes/tests, which he posts for us to look over. His teaching was somewhat clear, but you still need to study the concepts and examples on your own. Definitely worth attending the lectures, because then you will be lost. I recommend taking a different professor.

He is a great teacher. He is young and funny so he kepts you awake it class. You should definitely take him for financial accounting.

Clear explanations. attendance is not mandatory but he stresses that if you don't go you're hurting yourself, and its true. The class time is worth going to even if you know what you're doing. He teaches with repetitiveness and illustrates examples well. If you pay attention, you will get an A.

Prof. Shon is great at simplifying topics that seem difficult at first. He creates examples in class that stick and is willing to help any time you need. He posts all his notes online as well as examples of exams and quizzes along with the answers ones you just took. Overall very helpful, clear and interested in making sure you learn.

Prof Shons style is that he presents the main concepts in an easy to understand style. He doesn't require homework or attendance. The book is not good, but it is required by the dept. Just go to lectures and keep up with material.

He is alright i guess. he is a clear professor, but a big chunk of ur grade will be dependent on ur midterm and final. he doesnt give curves like the other accounting professors. so if you do bad on midterm, u will have to do EXCEPTIONALLY well on the final to make it up. And he doesnt seem likes students visiting him in office hrs...

DUH to the prior comment, the midterm isn't curved because it was takehome with a chance to regrade after getting the exam back. 4 quizzes, drop the lowest, takehome midterm, departmental final. Prof Shon is clear and gets to the point. Textbook is horrible but is required by the department.

I took prof shon for intro and went out of my way to register for his intermediate-1 this semester. He is knowledgable, caring, and even entertaining. Obviously you have to study on your own to supplement his lectures since it's accounting. But his exams were fair and there weren't any curveballs. Trust me you could do a lot worse than take him.

He's a fantastic teacher. However, my class was crippled with less than intelligent people and unfortunately he had to teach to the middle of the class. It felt slow.

Professor Shon is good. He tends to confuse himself sometimes, but in the end everyone seems to understand what's going on. All of his tests and quiz's are fair, but that not to say you don't need to study. He has a really great enthusiasm about it all. Very approachable and definitely knows accounting. I'd say take him if its your major.

THIS CLASS IS JUST SCARY. i am so scared i will bomb his final. one of the harder classes im taking this semester. the study guide that he provided us does not seem that adequate to prepare us. i dont even think jesus can save me for whats about to come

Shon is a great professor. he's passionate about the subject and does his best to explain it to students. Attendance was not required, but it's best to attend. He encourages us to ask questions. Not too much work, he only collected 4 hws but gave weekly quizzes. Great guy. Just study and go to class and it won't be hard to do well.

It is all up to you how well you do in this class and this course in general. There is not enough class time to adequately go over all the concepts, so a good amount of studying must be done on your own.

I would recommend taking Shon if you can, he teaches in a clear & understandable way. Has fair tests based on what he talks about in class. Posts all class notes on blackboard so you can go back later to look up what was done in class.

Prof. Shon is a great guy. Just because the course itself is hard doesnt mean people should be blaming him. He does a great job of breaking topics down so you can begin to understand them and he is beyond fair with grades. If you show him you care he will help you out. Easily one of the better professors at fordham, especially for this class.

Did not give enough preparation for the final exam. The practice questions were not very organized. Wish he held a review session or something.

Prof. Shon was one of the best professors I have had by far. He did a great job of explaining the material. If you didn't study on your own or read the book, of course you would be lost in class and probably blame him for your lack of preparation. But if you truly spent time on it and listened in class, it all made sense. Kudos Shon.

It is a tough class, but Professor Shon does his best to boil it down. By no means an easy A, but it is much more the nature of the class than his teaching. I recommend him to any accounting major.

Overall good professor. He did a great job of translating accounting into English. Only downsides: kinda unorganized and not nearly enough preparation for the (non-cumulative) final. Recommended

I would definitely recommend Shon. He realizes accounting is hard so he tries his best to make the material easy to understand and he cuts out irrelevant material. He is extremely fair and lets you drop a quiz grade and he curves your final grade. Accounting is just a hard subject in general but Shon makes it a lot better.

Goes over everything in class, no surprises. Class notes are easy to follow, and he posts them before tests and quizzes. Also a very fair grader, if you put in any effort you should get an A. If you dont get an A you only have yourself to blame. Only negativeis he can be hard to get in contact with outside of classand gives very vague email answers

Shon is the man, one of the best business classes that I've taken. He is really laid back and has a good sense of humor. Class is always helpful and he will take extra time to explain things and make them clear!!

JShon is probably the best professor i have had at Fordham, for accounting which is suppose to be long boring and hard he makes the material clear and he is able to keep your attention. If you dnt wanna go u dnt have to and if u do go and get bored u could leave. pay attention to the class slide and you will do fine. also offers a lot of help!!

He is an extremely understanding and clear professor. Explains everything very well and genuinely cares if you are following along or not, and will stop and answer any questions you have. Very accessible and willing to help students. Accounting is hard but he realizes this and makes it doable. Take him for sure

The complainers are those who probably never showed up to class, because attendance is anything but mandatory. He truly cares about the material he presents, offers ample help outside of class, and his tests are extremely fair. If you can pay attention in class, take notes and read them over, the material is both useful and manageable.

Let me be clear. If you like accounting, take him. If you don't, don't take. He's an excellent teacher if you pay attention and want to learn the subject. Quizzes are fair if you practice and learn the material. Final is 40%. Very easy project to do during the middle of the semester. Again, if you like accounting, TAKE HIM.

hes a cool guy and a pretty good teacher. attendance is not mandatory and he is a total pushover when it comes to pushing back quizes. The subject can be dry but I recommend you take Shon but do your best to pay attention and keep up as well

JOHN SHON is the BOSS! Funniest and coolest teacher I've seen in Fordham. He makes it easy and convenient for you to learn as much as possible and ace the finals. Best Financial Accounting prof. out there no questions asked. He is THE BOSS.

I am not an accounting person and all of my other accounting teachers have been hard, EXCEPT Jonshon. Do yourself a favor whether you suck at accounting or its your freakng passion. Take him for the easier way to be introduced to the subject. his notes could not possibly be broken down in a more explanatory way. Side note - he's incredibly rad

I struggled through this class. However, John Shon tried his best to teach the subject through sifting through the material and providing hw that is difficult. The wiley plus hw is super hard but no fears solutions are given after 5th try. If you can do the hw you will get an A. John Shon offers a lot of real life advice. good hearted human being

Even if you are not an accounting student, you will understand everything. You MUST do the homework and should attend lectures, although he doesn't require it. He goes over everything numerous times and answers all questions very thoroughly and clearly. He is one of my favorite professors at Fordham even though I'm not an Accounting major!

What can I say about Prof. Shon.. He made accounting an absolute pleasure in the face of one of Business's hardest subjects. His class is definitely not easy - the average grade on the final was like a 60 with only a 7 point curve. But if you put the work in you will feel UNBELIEVABLY rewarded and satisfied. Class is tough but John Shon is the goddamn man, chill as a cucumber. Just study your ass off for the exams because many people trip up on Principles of Accounting.

seriously the best professor I've taken at Fordham. I did poorly on the first midterm so I went to him and he went through every single problem and re-explained them to me until I understood. Great teacher and great person, but the only way you'll do well in this class is if you're a good student and go to class and pay attention. He lectures really well and often goes over things multiple times to make it clear, but the problem is that a lot of students (including me) don't like accounting and tune out. Final was pretty hard.

The class material is hard but he does a decent job at teaching it. He was good about giving curves too and extra credit to help us out.

He is amazing and accommodating and he understands that students are overwhelmed so he works around that. His goal is to teach you and help you understand rather than just throwing work at you. Loved John Shon. Didnt realize how great he was until I got to Managerial Acct where the professor is brutal. Clear grading criteria, notes were incredibly helpful and midterm wasn't too bad. Final was hard but it was department issued, so what do you expect. A real good guy.

He is one of the best professors I had this year. His lecture was easy to understand as long as you follow his stories. But the reason I'll take him again is that he can always help you on any type of question outside of the classroom like current events. Go talk to him, you will be amazed.

Professor Shon was an amazing professor. Probably the best professor that I have had since getting to Fordham. He really cared that people did well and tried to help as much as possible. Real funny guy that really tries to make accounting less boring and difficult. His tests are relatively easy for an accounting course if you do the homework and his practice exams. The only thing is that he "doesn't believe in blackboard" and all homework and other communication is through email, but it didn't end up being too inconvenient.

John Shon was a great professor. Engaging lectures and a great head of hair. As long as you do the homework and practice exams he gives you, you'll be fine. He doesn't curve exams, but he does a final grade curve. He doesn't care if you show up or not, kinda just relies on you to do your work. Totally worth taking him.

Great professor. Very chill guy and helpful. I struggle a lot in accounting and didn't have a great grade in the class, but that does not take away the fact that I found him to be an excellent professor.

Very chill. Doesn't curve usually unless class does very poorly. I hear he's a great financial accounting teacher, but I had him as managerial and it was his first time teaching it. Overall, though he got better throughout the year. I did have to do some time out of class to understand the material.

He definitely makes managerial accounting more interesting with his humor & chill attitude. His tests are not crazy hard, especially if you listen to his lectures and follow along on Excel. I 100% recommend his class if you're looking for a more relaxed accounting course. (btw attendance isn't required ^^)

Class can get a bit boring because of the nature of the lectures (ITS ACCOUNTING) but Prof. Shon is a wonderful professor and loves what he does. He makes class as fun as he can with his humor. He curves grades but expects you to know the material he teaches. Do the homeworks, read the textbook, and you'll be just fine.

If you go to class, take notes, participate, and study the guides he gives you to the best of your ability, there's no way you can't swing an A. It is vital not to fall behind, though, as everything is cumulative and it is way harder to learn the material alone.
