SOO Easy. don't take it in the morning, you will fall asleep b/c he has a boring, monotone voice. However, he knows what hes doing, and lets you out of class early every day. tests were all easy multiple choice, and he does practice tests together as a class. very little HW, i would take him again

He is a wonderful kind man. He makes the class wonderfull. You really do learn. It is not hard if you do the work and attend class. I can't say enough nice things of him. I wish all classes were so enjoyable and aactually fun and learn something.

Great science teacher for nonscience majors. He makes the work bearable and fun. He is dry but funny dry and uses colored chalk - what more can you say? Go to class, do the work, you'll be fine.

I never went to class - I read the chapters in the book before tests, which were a joke. Totally easy class. And if you do go to the lectures, they really aren't too bad.

Strict to the rules. He makes no exceptions for extenuating circumstances. His online class was poorly slapped together and hasn't been updated in a few years. If you are committed to taking one of his classes, don't take the online one. Simply flawwed and he's too blind to see it.

He looks like he's been tripping on acid since 1965. Also, what he talks about in class generally has nothing to do with what's on the tests. Probably one of the most pointless classes I've ever been in.

Understanding and always has a story to tell... if you have any extenuating circumstances, just email him and he'll work something out. nice guy, kind of goes off on tangents in class, but tests are decent. i'd take him again

Easy class, easy tests, easy classwork. The only downside to the class is the oral presentation if you do not enjoy public speaking. The class brings up very good points about the environment and alternative energy. A great class for gen ed credits.

I took "Planet Earth & Its Resources" over the Spring Semester, online. Easy, easy, easy class. You don't have to do the reading. If you're good at using the internet don't even bother buying the textbook. Final grade = 7 Quizes, (not timed, 1 week to complete each quiz), lowest one dropped, each one is 30 questions M.C. [Keyword: Wikipedia]

good teacher. goes over all notes on board while explaining, gives handouts. whats on the test is everything he goes over so no surprises. you have to do the recitation once a week with 1 short presentation for semester. attendance for recitation but not for class. doesnt use book at all. clear, easy if u study. drops lowest test. 1 small project

Class can be extremly confusing at times and notes are all spread out all over the bored. Attendence is recommended if you don't want to be completly lost in the class. Professor however is very nice and will answer any questions you have at all times. Even with low test scores, getting a decent grade isn't that far fetched.

Class is confusing at times because he never stays on topic. The notes are all over the place but if you go to class before the exam he goes over everything in order on the test. Just study and try to ask questions. Nice guy!

Second WORST professor I have in my life. I am taking his online course, the class is NOT easy at all. He gives us some websites for the exam, but the webs do not help you at all. IGNORE him PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I am also taking the online course and what a big mistake this was. I have a good gpa and this class will bring it down. Avoid at all cost. This class could have been taught by a robot. Horrible!

This guy is the man. Extremely monotone and somewhat emotionless, he's just a funny guy when he starts trying to crack jokes. His class is extremely easy, even though his notes may be all over the place. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you at least pay attention in class you'll definitely do good.

Horrible Class i had taken two of his online classes no direction, no help stay away if you can it is a complete waste of money the school should reimburse us for wasting our time. After taking it has brought down my gpa never again.

Really cool guy. Pretty easy going with a dry sense of humor. Lectures are straightforward, but the material is very interesting and he knows his stuff. Four multiple choice tests, a class presentation, and a pretty simple eco-friendly house design project that you have all semester to work on. This English major got an A without much trouble.

Guy is the man. Comes off as a really serious teacher, but is actually really cool. Different style humour, but he has alot of experience with MANY topics. No text book for the class, and sometimes attendance. Tests are high school MC style. Classes are just long lectures, usually with lights off and powerpoints, so its hard to stay awake sometimes

Very cool teacher. He definitly gives you many oportunities to have a good grade. multiple choice tests and take home labs. He has a sense of humour and normally teaches his class with powerpoint presentations and with examples he brings to class. Would defintly take this class again. Great teacher. He knows what he is talking about.

This guy is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had the honor of learning under. He has a dry sense of humor that is absolutely hilarious. Everything he teaches can be found easily on the internet and it is all VERY interesting. In all honesty, if anyone finds this class hard, they shouldn't have been able to graduate high school.

Grades for his class are based on tests and "labs", which are just worksheets that you can work on together once a week. Attendance isn't mandatory, so most people only show up for the labs. Tests require a lot of studying. Good luck following him on the board! He's scatterbrained and likes to go off on tangents.

This guy rules.Attendance is not mandatory,but i always went because i loved this class.He teaches everything very clearly,grades based on tests and labs and very occasional short easy homework.Hes very bland,but funny as hell if you give him the chance.Very recommended,im bummed that i already took this class and cant go back.Very interesting.

John Silva is one hell of a guy. Dry sense of humor=hilarious. Good teacher, very interesting. But thats not the best thing. If you want to become an engineer, as I do, he motivates you to the best of his ability. Great guy overall. Take his class.

Was fairly easy... you don't have to go to class b/c there's no attendance and he won't notice, but i had to go most of the time to take notes. You must be good at taking notes if this isn't your field b/c he rambles on and that's what's on the quizzes. Also there's a easy 10 min presentation and making a house on a comp. program.

I disagree, it CAN be the easiest class, if you stay on top of everything/go to lectures. Half the class will be engineer majors, unlike me. I will prob end up with a C+ cause I didn't, but I earned that grade. Don't underestimate him, he is a very nice mellow guy, & cool to talk to if you give him the chance, even though he doesn't seem like it.

His voice is really monotone to listen to which makes it kind of hard to pay attention; however, if you actually do PAY ATTENTION in class you really get into his lectures and become interested. Go to him for help and he will help you out as much as he can. Attendance is EXTREMELY important. No Book needed for class. I recommend him.

Easy tests if u actually pay attention in class and take notes. Gives a study guide and goes over every answer to the test. Easy A on the presentation, hardest part is his "house design" project which took me probably around 20 hours total to complete.

Can be an interesting class. Goes off on stories about things related to topics, not really needed. Tests are straight forward but you need to study in order to do well. Studied for hours just to receive 70's..I'm an A student.

No text book and really hard to hear. Puts question on the tests that we never went over. Four grades make up your total grade: 4 tests (lowest dropped) a presentation on whatever you want and a house project using google sketch-up, which took an absurd amount of time to figure out. Easy A if you need it but would not recommend

Take his classes only if he is your only option. Extremely boring professor, talks in a depressing monotone voice, and seldom attending his own office hours. If you are taking his online classes prepare to google everything, because there are no lecture materials or anything useful besides the exams which he emails to the class. Seriously

An easy B for sure, an A if you put in the work and sit close in class. His class can be a real snoozer if you loose interest. Nonetheless, easy labs, a take home final and no textbook are a always a plus. Attendance is not mandatory but is worth the time.

John is a real quality dude. I recommend this class to everyone. He has a real passion for the material he teaches and is more about you learning then giving you a grade. The material is easy. as long as you put in the effort, attend class, and show him that you care you are sure to get an A. NOTE: John is a lot more alert and aware then you think!

No text book just in class notes. Goes over everything on the test a week before it is given. 5 grades total, 4 tests lowest one dropped(3), recitation presentation, and house design using google sketchup. Easy grader, gives just enough detail. Would recommend for any class he offers.

Opinionated lecturer. Show up to class, listen, you'll learn a lot. Has a great sense of humor too. 4 exams, incl one final, and drops the lowest grade. Final is take-home Google search the answers. Other three are 50 question Multiple choice based on what he covered in lectures. Pay attention in class, read over notes, you'll ace it. No textbook.

No clue what I learned. Taking it to fulfill a gen ed is a mistake, there's tons of other more interesting and probably easier options. Super super tricky on tests - don't understand what use this is. There's only so much I can listen to about volcanos and dinosaurs before crying about how this is literally the most irrelevant thing I've ever done.

Tests are hard, you need to study more than you think. Teacher has a monotone voice and is very boring. Dont take this class unless you have to. An easy class if you take good notes (professor can be confusing so pay attention), study hard (do good on the tests) and do the class assignments (you can work with others, & ask for help if u need it).

Walked out of class once because of one person talking in the back. Extremely boring lectures, but could be an easy A if you were able to pay attention.

He was thoroughly average in class and his tests were of a thoroughly average difficulty. He's really accessible outside of class and has really awesome dinosaur fossils in his office he's willing to show interested students and is clearly passionate about his field. I'd take him again if I had to but he's not the best professor ever.

Teaches with his eyes closed which is kind of funny. Coupled with a very dry sense of humor, I enjoyed his classes. Lecture tuesday, finish lecture & worksheet thursday - when u finish the sheet u can leave (330 to 445 became 330 to 415 most thursdays)... graded mainly on all TESTS, but he drops the lowest. Study and you're fine.

Attendance was not required and hes pretty laid back. Hell care if you care. 4 exams and drops the lowest test grade and a house design project he spends a lot of time on. If you fail, its your fault. You get what you give when it comes to this class

He is a very boring teacher. Lectures the whole class. Gives grades for classwork which isnt too bad. Majority of the final grade are exams which are way too hard and have stuff that you did not go over in class. Dont take unless your happy with a C

DONT TAKE INTRO TO WEATHER One of the worst professors I've ever had. Drones through powerpoint slides , Doesn't use "my courses" so you actually have to go to class. Right before an upcoming test he'll email you with like 20 links to websites with new info he never taught in class, and he expects you to know it for the test. Hard and boring

Prof Silva is very old school which annoyed me so much. He did not use mycourses and he only sent stuff to us via email so it was hard to stay organized for this course. I would say he definitely took advantage of Online classes but he also had a lot going on. Fairly easy professor and will definitely pass you but hes not the best teacher.

Dont take this class. Unbelievably unorganized as this is the first class Ive ever taken that didnt have a mycourses page. Emails you YouTube videos twice a week and expects you to use that as a method of studying for his difficult quizzes. In the midst of pandemic he was unresponsive to almost all emails.

Take good notes. Whatever he writes on the blackboard will be on the test. I found him extremely exciting. I had his 4 classes and wish I changed my major. I was working 60 plus hours a week and took 4 night classes and looked forward to his classes.
