stupid newspaper quiz's and a lot of writing
The class is helpful, but the professor does not provide an easy-going atmosphere.
He's fantastic. A bit challenging but will make you think and has real-world experience. He is one of the best in the school for sure.
This teacher is knowledgeable, brings his work experience to the class. Note to other students: If you don't want to write a lot, you shouldn't take journalism! don't complain about writing in a writing class! (maybe change your major)
The class I dreaded going to all semester. He showed little respect for students and conducted a boring class.
The best experiences of my undergrad studies came from the challenges met & the information gained in Prof. Simone's classes. I'll admit that he is not easy, but is willing to help if asked; the A's are not unreachable. his classes motivated me to pursue a grad eduation and career in corporate pr.
very good teacher-knows alot about the industry-and gives good challenges. I have gotten A's in his class on several occasions just from paying attention to detail and what he wants from you. Very insightful.
I think he prefer smart students. Even though I spend so much time on papers, he give me a grade that what he wants. He never give you up grade even though after I rewrote. I know he has skill a lot, but I didn't like him that much. If you are really smart student, take him.
The class was boring, but had its moments. He gave quizzes every class, and expected you to memorize the textbook. He gives you the grade he thinks you should have, and not necessarily the grade you deserve. Could work for you or against you.
I was never really good in english but Professor Simone was able to spin my so-so writing into a style that seems pretty edgy. He respects personal writing style and made me completely confident.
He is super helpful and willing to work with you. He really wants you to become a better writer.
Hands down the hardest and the most horrible teacher I had at this school. Gives an overabundance of work and is a very hard grader. Doesn't care if you have other classes and work for them also. Very picky and also boring as hell. Our class had to BEG him for one break in 3 hours. never lets you out early. don't take him if you can avoid it.
this guy sucks. he wont grade your assignments or tests for such a long time-then returns them and majority of the time realized he graded them wrong- he looks down on everyone-expects you should know the material so he doesnt have to teach because i think he realizes he doesnt know how to teach. HE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY STRESS OR TIME SO DROP HIM
Boring, tough grader, reports. All semester long he got my name wrong. I didn't trust him with my grade because he marked correct answer wrong. I felt like I took a history class and not a Mass Comm class. He should have been a history prof not AMC prof! Avoid him!
Excellent teacher, i really learned a lot. He is tougher on his written assgnments and dont miss the pop quizzes. He knows what hes talking about and is very helpful and interesting. Easy class if you take excellent notes and attend
I hated this proffesor he gives assignments without much direction, and grades extremly hard mainly because he wasn't consistant you could get an A one time and a C the next for the same quality work. If you go to his office hours he WILL grade you better so i advise everyone to go.
Professor Simone is really nice and helpful. His class definitely requires a bit of hard work and you will get assignments every week. I learned so much in this class and it was definitely worth it. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to help you with anything you dont understand. If you are willing to work for an A, you can get it
This professor is impatient. Avoids answering too many questions and negligent when it comes to grading work. He also grades extremely hard for the little he actually lectures. It's very difficult to get an A in this class. Extremely dissatisfied with the quality of his teaching and felt I learned more about public relations in my other classes.
He knows was he is talking about. Could be hard but he knows a lot and has great experience and the class is dynamic. Do not be afraid of hard teachers they are the best.
This guy's expectations of students are too high. I tried so hard but could never get more then a B-. I realy did work my assoff too. Assignments all the time and occasional pop quizzes. If you are naturally a good writer then take his class but if not drop out immediately. He expectations is as if students should already be super good journalists.
Greatest teacher at FIT. He is so passionate about your writing and really wants to see you succeed. it helps if you have interest in journalism or PR but it's not necessary. You will still learn a ton from him and he will help you become a better writer after only a month.
He is one of the best professors I have had at FIT. He teaches you what you need to know for the tests, and you can always print the power points he posts and study your notes. He is also very friendly and flexible. He let me take the final 4 days early so I can attend my vacation! I'd take him again.
A 10 page paper due the day we have a quiz a WEEK before the in class final.. get real simone. He is a hard grader with unrealistic expectations. He acts annoyed when answering questions and has an elitist attitude. I would never take one of his courses again.
Professor Simone knows what he is talking. The AC111 usually goes by him going over the powerpoint till class is over, it can get a bit boring as I have heard many of my classmates complain! Pop quizzes, few assignments, a midterm and a final. He's alright!
He just Goes Over The Powerpoint's In Class! To Be Honest, I Really Found His Class To Be Very Very Boring! However, He Does Know His Material Very Well!
Extremely tough grader, but he will make you do your best. Very passionate about what he does but I wouldn't recommend him unless you're extremely into Journalism.
At first, I was very apprehensive to take Simone again because I didn't particularly enjoy Advertising & Promotion. I also do not like that he quizzes you (sometimes pop quiz) before he teaches the material. I have him now for Publicity Wkshp and I think i've taken the most out of his class than any other throughout my time at FIT so far.
Good Professor who knows his stuff....the final project as a little much, esp bc other classes handed it in piece by piece throughout the semester, and it was also confusing to understand. But the class was easy and kinda interesting and Simone prepared us well.
Really nice guy, but his class is boring, he lectures for 3 hours straight and barely encourages participation. Not that many assignments although I really suggest reading the textbook every week. Tests are pretty easy since they're based on the textbook. Although it was a boring class, i'd take it again with him.
He was a great teacher! He's really funny and I learned a lot. The projects are easy to do and pretty fun if you like advertising. Take him if you can!
He's a fairly nice guy but can get a bit of a "tude" from time to time. His class is all lectures and you have to read the chapters at home. But tests and projects aren't too hard and he gives in-depths reviews that really help you out.
He is a nice guy that an easy come across rude. His lectures are incredibly boring and are more about what he read about in the NYT that day. His slideshows were created by someone else and still uses MySpace in examples. Its not the worst class I've ever taken, but by far not the best either. Can't say I learned very much.
he is nice and knows what he is talking about but rarely lets you out of class early and lectures the entire class which is incredibly boring. his midterm and final are so HARD but his quizzes are kind of easy. not that bad but did not love at all
He's pretty good. He lectures for a full 3 hours and it gets boring sometimes. His quizzes are easy but the department midterm and final is extremely hard and unfair but its not his fault. The course project was pretty easy and the 2 assingments he gave were easy.
Simone is a nice man who looks and sounds like Bill Murray. However, his teaching is out of date & boring. The textbook shouldn't be mandatory because the powerpoints are directly from the text but gets mad if you don't read and will pop quiz you. Not technologically savvy.
From what I've heard about other AC111 classes offered at FIT, Simon's course seems to be the best. The lectures are horrendously long but if you can suffer through them you will learn a lot. He's super helpful and grades kindly on class assignments. Final Exam was a departmental one and it was HARD so read, take notes and you will do fine.
I loved this course! Incredible teacher. He is very well prepared and clear with the content of this course. Very helpful. If you're a responsible student and read and do the work you'll be fine. Great teacher and I hope I have him more!
He definitely pushes you to become a better writer. He gives very simple assignments that he allows you to email, which I love. He's very understanding if you miss class or have to leave early, as long as you speak to him beforehand. He once even bought in David Carr as a speaker for our class! His midterm and final are extremely difficult however.
I had Professor Simone for two classes during one semester so I really got to know how he teaches and poor his memory is. He is a really nice guy and has a passion for what he is talking about but can sometimes be condescending towards students. He easily forgets what he assigns and confuses himself and students all the time. A lot of reading.
I had Professor Simone for two classes in one semester which helped me understand his teaching habits and his horrible memory. He confuses himself and students by not knowing when he assigned assignments, readings, quizzes, and tests. He is really nice and loves to teach but can sometimes be rude when people question him.
Overall I enjoyed his class. He's a really sweet man and knows what he's talking about but sometimes he's a little lost cause he teaches so many courses. The textbook readings are really important if you wanna pass his class
He seems nice at first. Hes a tough grader. He is willing to help if you ask, but If you have no previous journalism experience he's hard. He expects your papers to be "New York Times" worthy. He also gives quizzes at random.
Prof Simone takes journalism too seriously, grading each assignment as if it's going to be published in tomorrow's NY Times. Not only does he pick apart your work, but he leaves rude comments, too. Overall, the class is overbearing. Many tedious assignments and pop quizzes.
although i somehow ended up with an A-, i can tell you that he is rude, sarcastic and downright elitist. it was not pleasant sitting through his commentary and even reading remarks left on my work. his assignments are interesting a times, but his grading criteria is incredibly tough. i would not advise anyone to take him for Journalism!
I loved Professor Simone. He is very knowledgeable in the journalism field and really challenges you with papers (in a good way!). He cares about the students, and for me, personally, he inspired a deeper love for journalism. Some students say he's a tough grader, but he really isn't honestly. Just do the work and you'll be fine
Professor Simone is someone who makes you work for your grade. He is honest, and has a lot of experience. I think he's worth taking if you're actually here to learn. Although he gives pop quizzes, they're just 10Q's that are self explanatory. He has an extra credit assignment at the end.
Professor Simone is such a great guy! He's funny, respected, and definitely knows his stuff. His experience in the industry gives him great material for lectures. Read the textbook! There will be pop quizzes if he suspects you're not reading. All the info you need for tests are in his lectures so notes are also important. Assignments were fun!
At first I was a bit intimidated by the assignments he had us do, but I ended up learning a lot about journalism. He made me step out of my comfort zone for papers and helped me with my writing. He's really old school and you can tell he has a passion for journalism. The midterm and final were EASY. He writes them himself.
This class was really easy. The information is pretty easy if you read, even if you don't its common sense. He is a good professor. Lectures can get boring, so boring your laptops. I definitely recommend and would take again.
Professor Simone is really fond of the sound of his own voice- but he's very knowledgeable about everything and anything that has to do with not only communication but politics, pop culture, and history. He's lectures get long and he springs a lot of pop quizzes on you, but he prepares you well for tests.
Prof Simone is a well-rounded journalist, however his teaching style doesn't match up with me. He is vague with grading criteria, the syllabus doesn't have corresponding dates on it, and he hasn't been in the field of journalism for a hot minute so his opinions are outdated. If you love fashion I would recommend this class.
Professor Simone was really passionate about Advertising and was very knowledgable. The midterm, final, and final project were easy and the course content was pretty self explanatory. DO buy the textbook and DO read because there are lots of quizzes. Overall though a good class and a good professor and i'd take him again
WhAt a guY!! He's so passionate about the course and really wants you to engage in the lecture so make sure you read the chapter the week before because if he sees the class slacking he does give pop quizzes. Besides that it just midterm, two small (but fun) assignments, final , and final project.
Prof. Simone is very willing to help students to learn. If you're struggling, make an appointment and you will learn a lot more! Fun assignments and I actually like journalism more now that I've taken it.
Prof. Simone is the best professor Ive ever had at FIT. He is always there for his students, encouragers their best work, and inspires them to reach all of their goals. If you have the opportunity to take any of his courses- do it!
Professor Simone clearly knows what he is talking about. He is kind, funny, and trys to make class interesting. Not a tough grader either, but will sometimes give you a pop quiz on the assigned chapter reading. I learned a lot from him!
This class wasn't too difficult. He gave 3 "pop" quizzes but always told us the week before to study. Midterm and final were easy. Tells you whats on it. 8-10 page paper at the end of the semester, and some hw assignments. He's an easy grader. Lecture is VERY boring & he does get mixed up with his classes. He's easy & passionate about his job.
Sorry guys! I made the comment on 12-12-18 saying he's a great professor but gave him a bad rating. Meant to give him a 4/5. Take him for AC 141 he's easy.
Rude, condescending, easily confused. I wouldn't take him. He also assigns a massive paper at the end of the semester you will never get back or find out the grade for or have any feedback on...
He didn't create an effective learning environment. He got frustrated & nasty when we didn't understand something & seemed annoyed when he had to explain something that we "should've learned already" There is definitely such thing as a dumb question w him bc something he'll laugh at students or raise his voice. I dislike PR very strongly bc of him.
I TRULY despise PR because of this man. The quizzes were easy you just have to read. However his personality and way of teaching is uncomfortable to be around. If the class doesn't understand something he will get frustrated and say "Its Simple how are you guys not understanding this! * condescending chuckle*. some assignments aren't clear
I had Prof Simone for AC 111 and AC 171. I really enjoyed both classes. He is very lecture heavy, but makes it enjoyable. I thought the assignments were fun to do. He does give pop quizzes, so make sure to read. As long as you do your work and participate, you'll be fine. He's very nice and will answer any question.
BIG NO. I took his online class and was disappointed. In the beginning I liked his video lectures but in the end he showed his real face. The test was not accurate and marked right answers like wrong which gave me a lower grade. Seems like he does not read emails carefully and after blame you for it. I recommend to stay away from him
Learned most of the material on my own from the textbook since he does not use slides. He often left insulting remarks on people's papers & spoke down to the class. His directions are never clear & no matter how many times we told him the reading schedule was inaccurate, he did not listen. Very harsh grader & we had a tedious assignment every week.
I actually really like Prof. Simone. I had him for both journalism and mass comm this semester and he was really nice and funny. He teaches you a lot about current events too which was cool. If you're a good writer and you do your work you'll get a good grade. Make sure you read the book because there are pop quizzes from time to time!!
Everything didn't make sense. The rude comments on papers were the worst part. If he felt like you weren't doing as well as he thinks u should, rather than encouraging his students, he would just leave a rude comment about how he thinks your work is terrible. He's a mean man, and all long, boring lectures. Boring class, mean professor.
Professor Simone was my favorite professor so far! His class isnt easy and he may push you out of your comfort zone sometimes, but he only does this to help you. Hes got tons of experience (head of PR at Revlon for years I believe), a sh*t ton of stories to tell and most importantly his class is interesting. Take this class if your sick of boring
I would not reccommend John Simone to anyone! He gives you work everyweek and will give you rude comments instead of useful ones. He asked us to rewrite one of our assignments without any comments on how we should fix it. He does not teach you anything in class and just rambles on about nonsense. Will give you quizzes on the textbook, so read!
Professor Simone is a nice guy and great to talk to. Can be unreceptive at times. Slides of class material weren't posted often, seemed like he forgot. If you have to take him you'll be fine.
I didnt learn anything in this class other than that I never want to be in his class again. If he doesnt like your work from the start, he will leave condescending and rude comments without letting you revise your mistakes. Spent most of the time going on tangents. If you can pick another professor, choose them. This class isnt worth it.
I personally loved this professor. I was skeptical at first due to the bad reviews, but he turned out to be one of my favorite professors this semester. I had him for Mass Communications, and he was really knowledgeable about the topic! Highly recommend, he is a tough grader, so be ready to put in the work.
worst professor I've had. first day of class, I was experiencing microagressions from him. had a quiz almost every week based off the chapters, but weren't lectured on it until after the quiz. showed an inappropriate movie and got mad at a room full of only women for finding it bad as the only man in class. class is fairly easy, he's just horrible.
He teaching style is atrocious at best. He doesnt finish his thoughts while teaches and doesnt explain what we need to actually knowjust reads of a powerpoint. doesnt use blackboard. and wont put ANY grades in the gradebook until the end of the semester. and give a 10 page esaay at the end with bad instructions. I could go on and on. DONT TAKE!!!!
he doesnt put anything in blackboard and waits until the absolute end of the semester to put ANY grades in the gradebook. Gives "feedback"w/smart remarks. Teaching style is horrible, he talks at you instead of actually teaching and his points arent clear. gives quizzes before teaching on it. also gives a 10pg research essay at the end. DONT TAKE!!
Professor Simone is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He is incredibly rude not only verbally to his students, but also with his grading. If he doesn't like you and your work you're gonna do horrible in his class. His comments make you feel stupid, and will make fun of you if you do bad. DO NOT take him for any class.
One of the most condescending people I have ever met. Comments on papers are rude and unhelpful. He goes on long tangents about topics that have nothing to do with the class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Going to his class gave me anxiety because of how awful he is. He gives rude feedback that is not helpful. He has no idea how to use blackboard whatsoever. He is disorganized and gives quizzes before lectures. He has clear favorites, and if you are not his favorite prepare to fail no matter how good your work is.
Some gave him a 5? They made that up! He does not use Blackboard and I bet because he does not know how. But don't the university provide training to professors? Bet he does not care. That lack of caring continues in the classroom, not posting things, rude comments in his gradings. We went over 2 months without a single grade posted. Awful.
I know there are mixed reviews but just take him. As long as you follow his instructions on assignments, you'll pass. Pay attention in class, read the textbook, and be prepared for quizzes that are pulled directly from the textbook. Tests are a little hard but you'll be fine.
he is feisty, with lots of quizzes like almost every class. he isn't horrible but def unenjoyable.
He isn't the worst professor, but not the best. He is knowledgeable but gives too many quizzes, and the homework assignments sometimes need clarification. Sometimes, he will ask a question, say someone's answer is wrong, and then tell the same thing, which is... frustrating. Not the hardest class ever (just confusing) so just do your best!
If I could rate him nothing, I would. I'm only halfway through the semester and can't wait until this class is over. Tasteless attitude, very bory and he makes the class more extensive than it needs to be. He relies too much on the textbook which is the exact same thing in the lecture powerpoint slides. Never again.
He reads off the slides and goes off on tangents. Quizzes almost every class based on the reading, but if you take copious notes on the textbook chapter definitions, than you should ace them. Overall, a decent professor but a lot of work and you will have to study concepts covered once to pass the midterm.
At first he seemed like he would be a good professor but quickly reveals his true colors by not communicating exactly what he wants from you. His answers with conflict with the text book. He also gets very technical with answers he's looking for even if your answer is reworded. Also not understanding when sick with a doctor's note.
Prof. Simone is the sweetest man who cares about his students and knows a lot about the subject. For the first couple weeks we had to read the textbook and had a 10 question quiz for the next class but it wasn't anything crazy. It's honestly helpful because those are the same questions that will be on the midterm and final. Would take again.
Only explains materials verbally, takes a week to respond outside of class, and is unwilling to help and work around making up work when having excused absences
worst professor i've ever taken. he's so rude, judgmental and grades harshly with unnecessary mean comments on homework. hard to imagine such a disrespectful and out of touch teacher rated over a 1 on this site unless you make the same mistake i did & trust the few 5's here. honestly i think he probably put the 5's himself. hi john. retire PLEASE.
His tests are in-person paper tests so you will have to be prepared for that, I barely studied and got a A. You learn the material across all of your AC classes, so as long you know what you are doing, then you will be fine. Make sure to review the chapters to prepare for his pop quizzes (You can just read the summaries at the end if u are lazy).
He is somewhat reasonable. Expect pop quizzes and a lot of writing, but decent kind of boring lectures and reasonable work. He is clear about his grading and expectations, though there is little room for make-ups and extra credit. I had him twice one semester, he is a pretty decent professor but I don't recommend seeing him for 6 hours a week.
Horrible person and professor. He graded me as a WF even though I was present in all but maybe 2 of his classes. Now I need to fight about that with the school. He only teaches from his PowerPoint, extremely boring, and has been a very rude and has said the N word in class. spare yourself and dont tae him very hard grader save ur self!!!!
I'm halfway into my semester and this guy makes me want to drop it. he makes us read the chapter ourselves and doesn't teach us ANYTHING about it before our quizzes (which are almost every class) so we are basically paying to teach ourselves. he talks about this being a seminar class even though it's stated as a traditional lecture.
He is honestly okay, the reviews may scare you but if you just quickly do a AI summary of the textbook chapter, you will do fine for the pop quizzes. His assignments were pretty easy too. He somehow gave me a Z grade after spring sem, but thankfully he quickly fixed it during the summer break.
i took simone for AC 111 last semester and he was fine. he reads off the slides and there was weekly quizzes, but they were easy and about the main points, didn't need to do a lot of in depth. i did well so i took him for AC 221 which is a workshop. DONT TAKE HIM FOR WKSP. he has no slides, doesnt write anything, so you HAVE to listen to every word
He seems to a nice guy but his lectures are extremely boring. I'm in the middle of a semester and he makes us take pre-quizzes before even discussing anything about the chapter which makes it difficult. Overall he is a good person but isn't really capable of creating an engaging environment in the classroom.
