not bad, hes the stereotypical physics guy, a little crazy but in a really smart way.
He's good at explaining things one-on-one and very helpful if you have trouble with loncapa. Very, very fair grading policy and straight forward exams make an A extremely attainable.
I liked this guy's teaching style a lot. Very good at explaining things in various ways until it's understood. Very easy going. Plus he is a cute thing.
I think this guy is awesome. Makes math secondary to concepts. He's a physical, funny teacher, and makes an effort to understand student questions. He doesn't really use copyable notes, but makes you understand what you're learning nonetheless. Plus, I think he's cute.
I don't like how he goes over the same thing over and over again. and LONCAPA is Homework therefore it should be done at home not in class, even if he wanted to help us he should done the same question once not a 10000 times. this is a 200 level class and I feel like sitting in an elementary level. other than that he is ok
TONS of loncapa questions..print out your homework and study from it for the test! I only read the first four chapters of the book and then stopped using it all together. He does clickers in class for attendance. Funny guy and cute too! Tests are fair. Just make sure you study and understand the CONCEPTS.. don't just memorize formulas.
He's super cute and funny, but he seems to care more about whether we liked him rather than the material. He often made errors in examples during lecture and spent ten minutes trying to figure out where he went wrong. Lecture was a waste of time, lab is super easy and is the only reason I have a B.
easy class, and i do mean EASY. do some online journals and quizzes every couple of weeks, come to class with your clicker and youre fine. funny guy, wants you to like him and enjoy what hes talking about. i'd take the class with him again.
Good Man, but a little scatterbrained as many smart people are. Interested more in concepts than math. Should be no problem to do well if you do the loncappa which is alot but labs are easy.
You do not need the textbook. Nice guy, funny, lecture gets a little repetitive. LonCapa assignments are absurdly long, and usually only the easiest of the questions end up on the tests. Lab is relatively easy. Recommended.
OMG Easiest class ever. He posts a review before each test and only takes questions off that review for the tests. going to class is pretty much optional unless you want the CPS grade. And he's a really nice and helpful guy on top of that. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!
I love this professor! He has so much energy and he cracks me up. He puts a lot of effort into explaining concepts. His tests come straight from loncapa so they're as easy as they can get.
I barely ever made it to class and when i did I brought my laptop to work on other stuff b/c everything there is to learn is online. While people were having a hard time from how he was teaching I was looking up his lectures and doing ALL of the loncapa questions til I got each one right and knew exactly how to do them, and whaddya know i got an A!
He rocks. I loved his class. Such a nice man.
So much fun and funny (and CUTE) . Keeps things interesting, not strict on pple talking during lecture though, and tests are based on homework and not really lecture. Lecture focused more on real world application of physics. Homework was a piece of cake since hints help so much! Had to study the homework hard for the tests, did not use book at all
If physics is a degree requirement and you basically just wanna earn an A and get it over with, taking it with this guy is a must! The LON-CAPA hw takes time, but the tests come straight from those problems so just memorize them for the test. The lab is pretty easy, and there's CPS which is not graded for correctness. So yeah, it's an easy A class
he is good
I absolutely loved this class. I hated Physics in high school and this class made it easy to understand. Skrob is an amazing teacher. There are clicker questions, but not for correctness. Just show up, take notes, do the HW. You'd have to try to fail this class.
He's a great teacher, interesting class, homeworks are a tab lengthy but the labs are very easy. Test are easy as well, they come straight from the lon capa hw. Going to class is optional, but definitely helpful. I would recommend him!
He's the Best!!
I hate Physics but Skrobiszewski made it so much fun and easy. There are homework problems online, but there are practice versions too so you can figure it out before being graded. These are also the types of questions on the tests! Do hw, go to class, get an A
Hes the best, I'd reccommend him to anyone. Tests come directly from the homework and the labs are very easy. Although the homework is time consuming it makes up 30% of your grade so its def. worthwhile. I got a B in 201 because I bombed an exam and missed some hw's. But I'm in 202 now and I have and A. He's amazing, take him you won't regret it!!!
This guy is all over the place, but in a good, funny way. Lectures may not make sense, but the homework has so many helpful hints. You'll learn everything. Test come directly from hw, final comes directly from past tests. Great guy.
This teacher was a lot of fun. Besides the fact that I receive a B in his class it was b/c I didn't focus on most homework assignments until it was too late. He can be deceiving; most people feels he's easy and decide to slack a bit, which results in low grades. An A is possible. He's great on a 1:1 basis.
Lon-capa HW due every Monday, which is pretty easy. Tests come from that and the final comes from the 3 tests. Lab is cake. Getting an A in this class should be no problem. Attendance is not mandatory, but I often went and did work for other classes b/c lecture can be all over the place. Overall, a good teacher and definitely recommended.
I went to like three classes and got a B (and a 90 on the final and the last two tests...bombed the first and slacked on HW)...learned everything from LONCAPA. He's really nice and funny.
Soooo easy! Take this class - really a nice guy
Basically: Over the summer semester I failed the first 2 tests, got a C on the final, did pretty good on homework and quizzes, and got all A's in lab (which are too easy) and I got a B in the course. Similar homework and quiz questions go straight onto the exams so study those over and over and you will get an A. TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM!!!!!
Great professor. He is all over the place during lecture, but who cares!! His exams questions are straight from the homework, which he gives a sample homework to practice prior to completing the actual homework. I have him for 202 this fall, and I can't wait! Failing this class is difficult. Do the HW problems, they add up to a test score.
Amazing professor! Love this class! I dreaded having to take physics until I got him for a professor-- easily one of my best classes! Pretty easy on the eyes, too... ;-)
He's the best!! Fun class!!
Funny guy. attendance is not mandatory so if you don't show up for the lecture then show up for his antics. guaranteed to make you laugh. exams came dirrectly from homeworks. he lets you know which question will be on the exam a week prior to exam date so you can study.
TWO WORDS: THE BEST!
THE BEST! Top Physics Professor hands down! Highly Recommended
I took him for 201 and got an 89 and Im taking him now for 202...easy A, do loncapa over and over and you will be fine!! Nice guy and easy to get along with!! Take him!!
He is one of the most fun professors at VCU. He keeps the class interesting and always helps students understand when they are having questions. Lon Capa is used for everything, attendance is taken by the clicker, but over all this is a great professor! It is a really fun class and John creates a fun learning environment.
This man is a genius. I took both 201 and 202 with him. He gets right to the heart of concepts, appealing to common sense. We dealt with round numbers, so that calculations could be done off the top of one's head. That way, errors tend to be localized as conceptual, not calculator typos. Study so you don't hold back the class. Sexy & funny.
It is hard to concentrate on what he says because he is so incredibly attractive!! I just keep imagining him and me getting it on. I really want to make a move, but I'm too shy. I'll just keep enjoying this summer class and picturing him naked.
Avoid this teacher if possible. It's practically an on-line class with which you receive no help, no instruction, his power points are wastes of time. But of course you lose points if you don't attend.
He makes this class extremely helpful and interesting. I wish I had him for 201 also. The fact that he's easy on the eyes makes it extremely easy to pay attention and grasps concepts. I absolutely recommend his class!
By far one of my favorite teachers at VCU. The last time i took physics was in highschool and its safe to say I didn't retain any of that information. I'm currently acing this course. Skrob does a great job explaining but doing the HW will really get you an A in the class. Tests and quizzes are all from HW problems. Great class. RECOMMEND IT!
Highly recommend. By far my best instructor. This is a great professor. He was very very helpful. he answers all your questionsAll you have to do is the HW and the quizzes online and u can get an easy A or B. The Test questions come from the HW which is mandatory. no book needed. love this guy! I will be taking him for Physics 202
Highly recommend. By far my best instructor. This is a great professor. He was very very helpful. he answers all your questionsAll you have to do is the HW and the quizzes online and u can get an easy A or B. The Test questions come from the HW which is mandatory. love this guy! I will be taking him for Physics 202..
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!I HAD HIM FOR BOTH PHYSICS 201 AND 202 2 YEARS AGO AND ACED BOTH!! OF COURSE YOU MUST WORK HARD!! EXAM QUESTIONS COMES FROM UNDERSTANDING ONLINE HWK ASSIGNMENTS.. GO TO CLASS RVW SESSIONS!! U WILL LEARN MORE FROM THERE BOUT COMPLETING HWK ASSIGNMENTS
Skrob is an awesome teacher. I've had him for Physics 201, 202 and Energy. He's hilarious and keeps the subject interesting. I wish there were more teachers like him. Definitely take his classes if you have the opportunity.
Definitely my favorite professor at VCU. He's so funny and cute and explains everything perfectly. you will never be bored and will definitely leave with an A if you do your loncapa hw. TAKE HIM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! you wont regret it!!
John is very energetic, which is good for a 9 am class. He is kind of all over the place and talks to much about his personal life. He does a good job explaining ideas and concepts, but sometimes skips over topics that are asked on the Loncapa homework.
He knows how to explain the subject. Class is not hard if you understand Phys, but a lot of work (LONCAPA). Most students find him funny, but kind of makes annoying jokes sometimes. However, you would be able to get an A if you do all the work!:) Take him!
very energetic and helpful. easy class. extra credit offered. textbook not required. easy A especially if you do all the clicker questions. make sure you study for two exams.
Skrob is really invested in teaching those who want to learn. If you're just taking the class because it's required he'll acknowledge that fact but expects you to still want to get something out of it. I loved taking his class. He's great at explaining the conceptual aspect of physics and is hilarious.
Best professor I have had so far. He is hilarious and is very straightforward on what will be on the tests and it comes straight from your homework and quizzes. He is awesome!
John is great! He is funny and always full of energy (the class is Energy, no pun intended). Quizzes and homework are online, so no reason not to get 100 every time, plus they drop the lowest homework and quiz. Only 2 tests: midterm and final. I only have the final left, but will most likely get an A in this class. Take this if you want an easy A.
He enjoys teaching and finds creative ways to explain concepts.Online quizzes, graded homework and tests are all from lon capa.Cons? He never responds to email,is only available a couple times a week for questions, can be very scatter brain. His lecture can be confusing. You will end up teaching yourself most of the material.
Very good teacher! Focus on that homework and you'll do well. He starts simple and builds up to harder and harder material, but if you keep up and understand everything, it is easy. Attendance isn't necessary as he gives explanations for problems in the homework and tests are based on the homework. Good class for all you premeds just wanting an A!
Very easy class. Attendance is not mandatory. Actually is kind of funny, and the classes were not boring.
Very easy class with a very easy going professor. Just do the homework every week and cram for the midterm and final exams (he puts up practice exams with the same questions), and you'll have an A. Take this class..such a bro professor.
Charming and funny prof. Lecture is more about relating the info to daily-life than how to number crunch it all together, so note taking is in-class is typically unnecessary. Attendance not mandatory, but I've gone to every class for two semesters because he is one of the rare faculty members that has lively lectures. The best!
I have never taken Physics before and I thought I was going to fail. But he makes it so easy actually wants you to pass the class. His test are so easy! Go to class and do your work on time. Take him there's no way you can get below a C in his class.
A very enthusiastic professor. Its not just him who makes up our test and homework questions but other members of the physics department too. You will be severely confused in class because he does more applied thinking with physics. I got an A in both semesters, but I can honestly say i learned next to nothing, which I'm not exactly happy about
Dude is hilarious. Really nice and really helpful.
Horrible teacher. He'll show up late to every class and proceed to talk with students through the entire exam. So scattered brained that you can't catch any of the concepts, frequently gets his own problems wrong. You seriously won't learn a thing in this class except how to do a problem.
He is my favorite professor. He's a funny guy and really knows a lot about the subjects he teaches. He couldn't be more easy going. You don't have to go to his lectures but they're interesting and entertaining. Great guy
You don't have to come to class. There are no textbooks. Just a weekly online homework, and sometimes a ten question quiz. Class is ridiculously easy. The homework gives you the same questions each week, which are also the same questions on the midterm and final. Take this guy
This class is definitely easy and all you have to do is basically get all of the homework done and you'll be good to go with his tests which are two plus the final. If you have any questions just go and ask him and he'll answer them so there's no way to fail or get anything other than the A. He is the one to take for all of you pre-health students!
If you didn't take energy or earth science in high school stay away from this class. Al work is online homework and quizzes are a breeze. Midterm and Final in class you must study CRAM. Answers choices are on tests are A through E
Do well on the homework, and understand the BASIC LON-CAPA problems because they are the questions that will be on the test. The more elaborate questions will NOT be on the tests. He doesn't answer emails and is not invested in the class. It's an easy A, but you won't learn much.
So unorganized. Also why is homework worth more than quizzes? That doesn't make sense
This guy is GREAT. Class is fun, and he is an amazing teacher. Go to his office hours for help in the homework. If you have any problem talk to him. He is always willing to help. He is not a machine like many professors, he is a real human. If you are scared from college. Going to class is very important to understand the subject. #1 Teacher
Good professor, funny, easy A, give chances to improve grades. I recommend him
Extremely stressed from this class. Hardest class ever taken at VCU. Physics is difficult for me in general (as for most people).. and the fact is, he truly does not teach anything or go over examples or teach coherent lessons. He's all over the place. You are on your own. Very upset with the teaching structure of his class.
He is the easiest professor ever! Take him over the summer if possible. HW is the longest I've ever done in my life. You have to put in a lot of time to understand the hw. His tests are straight from loncapa (only easy problems), he won't try to trick you. I didn't understand a word he lectured but just focused on the hw and aced all his exams!
Fantastic professor. This course is very easy, but you are given a lot if homework! Be ready to work at least 3-8 hours outside class every week. It will help you grasp the material. Everything is online and the tests come straight from the online homework, so study those as much as you can. I was intimidated by physics, but I'm really enjoying it
Love this guy! Super funny and laid back. Total RVA hipster. Two online homework assignments due every week, 1 short & 1 longer. Takes a lot of time but isn't too difficult. No hmwrk from labs. Test questions directly from homework. In-class clicker questions for attendance, not correctness. Lowest homework, lab, and clicker dropped. Recommend.
Great teacher! Just learn through the practices from lon-capa and youll be fine, EASY A !!
Great guy. Very funny and personable. Expects you to learn the information, not just memorize it. He tells funny stories that make you remember the concepts. I would definitely recommend him for this class and his Energy class, as well.
I was told this class was easy, but unless you're absolutely fantastic at general science and mathematics (which I'm not), you will have to work for a good grade. Although the course material wasn't that easy, the way the course is graded makes it easy for you to get a high grade. My advice is to go to class and do homework well in advance. No book
Skrobbie is probably the best physics professor here at VCU. His class is quite laid back, and hey you might even learn something if you really want to. Online homeworks can be painfully long, but it's free points if you just do the work. Loncapa is free so don't worry about paying for online resources. Tests are straight from the online work.
To be honest I really didn't understand anything from this semester but still happen to do well. Everything is based of homework , labs, and tests, which aren't hard, but sometime confusing. Just try a bit and you'll do fine.
Homework is a must. Everywhere. you cant run away from that, but this is the easiest class i have ever taken in my life. He's an incredibly energetic person who simply loves what he does. "Lectures" are super fun and very interesting if you actually attend and reduces your homework load to near minimum. will be taking this dude again for sure.
awesome instructor!! EASY A !! Just do the HWs and the Quizzes and you'll be fine
Skrobbes is hilarous. He's a great teacher, but he will not show you how to work out the problems. You have to struggle and study through it by working on the practice problems & then the homework & lecture preps. If you go to him, he will help you no problem, but you have to go after class! I only paid attention to Free body diagrams in class.
DO THE HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES. If you slack on any of them, grades will fall and go to the labs. They're pretty easy. Awesome and funny professor but teaches by his own method which is no textbook and just basics. Only 2 test and a final. Possible easy A
He's hilarious and his lectures are never boring. He makes sure to go over the material thoroughly, spending entire classes doing practice and review (which help a LOT). The tests can be difficult if you fall behind, so make sure to do all the homework. Brilliant physics professor, highly recommend!!
If you want to get an A but learn absolutely nothing take this class.... He is very charismatic but arrives late and is unprofessional in my opinion. During tests and even final exams he leaves students COMPLETELY ALONE while he goes outside to smoke and talk to friends. So if you have a question during an exam don't expect to find him.
He's casually judgmental, and wastes a lot of class time either complaining about something or performing stand-up routines. It's bizarre. He says that physics is something you must!!! learn yourself (or else it's impossible to succeed!) and in his class, he's right. His lectures are disorganized and rambling, but the exams are straightforward.
Wayyy too much homework for a gen ed class. He rambles, is full of himself, and goes on pointless rants about why he hates dolphins..?? So strange. Class size is 200+, people will do the clicker question for attendance and then leave. Lectures are pointless bc he doesn't actually teach. You have to learn everything on your own.
This entire class is based around the online homework and quizzes. I never paid attention in class but was easily able to get an A from actually doing well on the hw. He literally copies questions from the hw on the two tests. The final is online and open- note and the labs are really easy. Also there is no textbook required which is a plus.
Seems like a nice guy. Sometimes the lectures are helpful. Clicker questions for attendance. There is a homework assignment and pre-lecture quiz every week. There are 2 tests (in class) and one final (online, take-home), which come directly from the homework. If you understand the homework, you'll do well on the tests. No textbook. Lab is easy.
I tried to come to class as often as I could, not because you need to, but because Skrubby is so funny. He's actually a pretty good teacher, too. However, I did become that kid that learned only through the homework. Never got below a 90, though, so clearly it works out.
Maybe the content was just harder, but I feel like he taught 201 a lot better than 202. He rushes through concepts and the pp notes he uses hardly relate, you pretty much have to catch up outside of class to understand. He's a funny guy and I enjoy his lectures, but sometimes his teaching style is lacking.
He likes to go off topic all the time. I never learn much during lecture, most of what I learn is outside of class on my own. Tests are easy. He is a good guy but I wouldn't say the best professor. He lets you struggle on homework before he tells you how to actually answer the questions.
online quiz and hw every week. 2 tests, and 1 final. In class clickers. Lectures are not very helpful but it's an easy class. Just make sure you do the quizzes and homework every week. Before the tests, prepare using the practice tests and homeworks and you'll do well. Final is online, but tests are in class.
This semester was harder for me especially the electricity part, but it is still very manageable to get a A! He dropped two homeworks and lecture preps instead of the optional hw. Even though I learned next to nothing in class, the loncapa hw really helped. Also I got a 89.5 in the end and he rounded me up!! If you have any problems just email him!
Honestly, you don't even have to go to class to pass. Do the weekly homework assignments & lecture prep, prepare for the 2 lecture exams by going through the practice problems, and take the final (which is online) and you should be able to get an A or at least a B. I found the tutors at Hibbs very helpful!
Class was easy. Only reason to go to class was to see him to homework examples from time to time. You can learn most of it yourself, but for the harder stuff ask and he will show you. No final in the summer. Quizzes are weekly and homework is 3 times a week.
Don't take him unless you have already taken physics in high school and understand it will. I was trying to dig myself out of a hole all semester of not understanding anything and trying to teach it to myself through online videos and online websites that I found on my own.
Is the best! I really had to work for those grades, but this hunk of a man really makes sure you take it all in. I like to think of him as the epitome of professors, not only does he take his precious time of the day to assist many of the students he should just flunk... but, he also offers life lessons. He truly leads by example 3
Ok, 201 is challenging but you can definitely pass. However, you need to do most of your learning outside of class. His lectures are very random and he gets off topic all the time. A lot of people did not come to class for that reason. He is pretty funny though, you just have to get used to his odd humor.
To be completely honest, John isn't the best teacher, but the online hw/lecprep (30% of grade) carries your grade and is how you are going to learn. Just go to class for the mandatory clickers (Based on completion not accuracy) and study outside of class. Got 97% in hw and test avg of 50% and still got an A in the class. Easy A. I recommend.
Don't need to go to class, exams are based off of exact questions on LONCAPA. I'd recommend going to lectures as Skrob is pretty entertaining.
You must go to class to get the clicker questions for points (graded on attendance not accuracy). Those are worth 10 points a class. The Lon capa homework is a bulk of the points as well and that's really where you learn. His tests are harder than the practice ones. Looks similar tho. Go to class and do the homework get an A
This class has a ridiculous amount of information to memorize. If you're not good at memorizing, go to class so that you get the clicker question points. The homework and quizzes are all online and are the questions that'll be on tests, MAKE SURE YOU SCORE AS HIGH AS YOU CAN. The midterm and final are in class, and EXTREMELY specific and difficult.
Not a very good professor. The class is REALLY easy if you do all the homework (everything is through LON-CAPA except midterm and final) but he strays from the topics way too much and isn't really clear about what needs to be done. He also talks about things in class that don't really pertain to the homework. The lectures won't help you on the hw.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He has the funniest lectures, while still being informative. He does go off topic, but he always makes sure the student comes first and they they know the material. Very easy to approach
He's a really cool guy. Weird, but funny to listen to. To be honest, his lectures are worthless. You can honestly learn on your own. DO ALL HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES!! Show up to class for more points. He's understandable if you talk to him and ask for help. He does go off topic a lot but he has a kind heart.
Basically you teach yourself in this class. If you want an A this class you have to do the homework and prep homework. He does offer extra credit and curves his tests. The only problem is annoying when he is lecturing and he doesn't take lecture seriously.
He is an awesome guy. Very clear in his grading. If you learn the material, you will be completely fine. He isn't going to throw any curveballs at you.
NOT AN EASY A CLASS! It's super easy to screw up a few assignments and eventually your grade for the semester. You have to work hard because this is basically a self-taught class. Skrob is nice and cracks jokes during lectures, but the real learning happens at home when you're doing the HW. Glad that attendance is optional.
If you took physics or AP physics in high school, Professor Skrob's class will be an easy A. His lectures can be kind of boring, and he can be a bit scattered brained at times, but overall he's a good professor with good grading criteria. He only gives 2 tests and an online final, and homework is graded, but he drops homework grades.
Do not take with Skrob unless you already know how to do physics. I'd never taken physics before and ended up completely lost. He's a nice man, but never uses paper to do problems, works things out in his head and will leave you very confused if you don't already know how to do problems. Not very good with answering emails.
Goes off on tangents, but PHYS 201 has pretty easy material, and if you pay attention to the nontangential parts in class he's actually helpful. Just teach yourself and stay on track and you'll be fine. He will answer questions if you ask.
He was the worst. People claim that INSC! is easy but it's really chem/math heavy. He picks on anyone who isn't a natural when it comes to science. Looks & acts like the alcoholic professor from Shameless. Goes on rants about how climate change doesnt matter even though thats literally what the class is about.
He is a nice guy& funny but is often off topic in the class so most people will skip since he doesn't really go over physics - & when he does it's in the last 5 minutes of class & he will just give the answers to the problem but will not explain how to do it. U are best off coming to class everyday & taking notes and finding youtube videos 4 help
Great guy, very funny! Lots of homework and very firm on deadlines. only 2 tests! but homework is equally important. Pretty Easy stuff if you pay attention and do the work. Tophat heavy if you go to class. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended. Helpful during office hours. EVERYTHING is on Quizelet (& course hero), use that to your advantage!
honestly, not a class you "LEARN" physics in but def good for an easy A. only two exams - midterm and final based on the most recent hw at the time and most of the homeworks are dropped. easy easy easy A... if you don't get an A you're trying to hard.
I received a B in his class but that was only because I didn't take the homework seriously for the first half of the semester. He's very clear on his tests (the questions are taken right off of the online homework!) and he gives tons of chances to bring up your grade. He makes class fun and the content easy to understand.
John is a great professor. He gets it, not everyone is majoring in Physics, but the thinking required to tackle the problems is whats important. He wants to challenge students, but he doesnt want you to feel your grade will suffer for trying. Dont think of it as an easy A, but try to be engaged in lectures and understand how things work.
Homework and quizzes are all online. Midterm and final are in class. Clicker points count the most so go to class. Such an easy A! He is such a funny guy and genuinely cares when you do need help. If you do go to class all the time and need your grade bumped up at the end, he will help you out
Energy is the easiest class if you need to cover a science gen-ed. John is so casual and funny, yet he still knows what he is talking about. As long as you do the LONCAPA hw online each week , you can skip class. The midterm and exam reviews are basically the test. This class was so slight.
Couldn't be happier with how Professor Skrobiszewski handles this course. He is very clearly fascinated by what he is teaching and does his damnedest to engender that same interest in his students, or at least a passing understanding for the truly apathetic. He's goofy but pretty funny. Very laid back.
Easy A! Quizzes and homework are online and right from the power points. Test are straight from the quizzes and homework so do not stress about it. Makes the lectures quick and simple, especially when he adds humor and starts to rant about his life.
Ive taken Skrobs for part one & two for physics and received an A. He assigns hw & lecture prep. Make sure you complete the homeworks and practice them and you should be fine for the exams. Also if you don't know an answer on the test he'll tell you.
The class is very easy, it's very easy to get an A as long as you're up to date with assignments. He makes class entertaining but he's also helpful if you're struggling with the material.
He was a funny guy, but he gets off topic quite often. The class itself is set up for everyone to be able to pass. Theres weekly homework and biweekly quizzes (all online) . The homework and quizzes are exactly what the tests are, just rearranged answers. The department also calculates grades two ways, one without attendance, so you can skip class.
John is a great guy and is really funny. He doesn't spend a ton of time actually teaching, he just goes through the power points. Weekly online homework and biweekly online quizzes (can do out of class). Honestly, its a lot of busy work. A lot of times you are taking quiz on material you haven't learned yet. Copy and paste will be your best friend.
Love him! The class itself is so easy. He is funny during his lectures and is lenient on attendance. The only criticism I can give is that LON-CAPA is a strange website. It's unclear what grade you have, but he will tell you if you ask. Weekly homework problems and occasional quizzes. Exams are easy if you study the practice tests, which are given!
Homework every Wednesday. Quizzes were fair and good prep for midterm and finals. Everything on the midterm and finals is shown on the homework so make sure to practice by doing them. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, it's very beneficial to because his power points are online, but aren't very detailed
Easy A! Literally just show up, Participate, do the homework/quizzes and you will be fine! Exams are the same from homework so just memorize it.
Professor Skrob is the best! He's very energetic and charismatic during every class. He will crack jokes during lecture to keep students engaged and interested. His office hours are very helpful as well if you're concerned about your grade, an assignment, or if you just wanna talk and hangout! He definitely made my freshmen year easier and more fun
Great professor, easy A if you do all of the homework/quizzes, which are all online. There are only 2 tests, a midterm and a final. As long as you study and memorize them, you'll get an A. A bit tedious, but it's college. He is really funny and does not make the class dry.
Professor Skrobiszewski is really funny and class pretty interesting. There is a homework assignment due once a week and a quiz every other week. The homework and quizzes are all online. There is a midterm and a final in class. The class is fairly simple as long as you do the homework and quizzes. He also uses Tophat for questions during class.
Yeah, he's kind of a weirdo, but not in a bad way. Maybe a little too high energy for my tastes but objectively pretty funny I think. The class itself absolutely deserves its reputation for being phone-in though; it was easy enough without the extra credit, and once you add that in... you'd have to try pretty hard to fail, I imagine.
only two exams and online final. if you go talk to him, he will help you out. very nice but goes off topic in lecture. if you do the homework and practice problems you'll understand enough for the exams.
Love this professor. Homework is easy and he is a cool guy that won't make you bored in class. Helped me with problems and is great to talk to in Office Hours. Finals is online and the exams are exactly like the homework but with different numbers. Great person for getting LOR
John's lectures are all over the place. Don't expect to learn anything in class, other than his personal anecdotes and weird, random facts. Be prepared for an easy A (as he himself has indicated), but you will have to teach yourself all of the information on your own. He doesn't reply to emails and has limited office hours. Doesn't show any math :(
Homework on Loncapa due every Monday. The assignments are long and he doesn't post them until Thursday the week before. He's a nice guy, but I learn almost nothing in his class. There is nothing to even learn from, just blank powerpoints and links to Physics Classroom and other supplemental reading materials. Take him if you already know physics.
Professor Skrobiszewski is absolutely hilarious. He is a down to earth guy that knows what it is like to be stuck in classes you do not want to be in and considers the fact that everyone has important things to do in their lives other than his class. Weirdly enough, it is pass or fail. I got a 100 an exam but plenty of people failed. Be careful.
This class was such a waste of time. You honestly dont have to attend class unless you want extra credit. All the work is online but the test are in class which is dumb imo! The hw start out okay then out of no where you have like 40 questions so it can get annoying. Overall if you need a science gen ed take something that actually interest you
literally could not sit through a single lecture of his. He goes on tangents every other sentence and believes in "teaching the concept" instead of teaching us what he is actually testing us on. His exams are all algebra but his lectures are him going on and on about random stuff. homeworks are based on accuracy and are worth alot. also no curves.
Lectures were very unclear and didn't really correspond to the homeworks/quizzes. No exams except for a midterm/final so as long as you do all the online homework and quizzes then you will be fine.
Energy! is known as the easiest course at VCU, but I've had easier. Still, no complaints though. I only showed up for the first day, the midterm, and the final. Make sure you do the homework every week and the quizzes every other week. Use the practice questions posted before the exam. Then you'll get at least a B.
Although I found his humor and tangents to be funny, and loved hearing his comparisons of throwing babies and elephants, I didnt feel like I learned much from him. PPTs and lectures are barebones. He doesnt explain the work in class. Be prepared to teach yourself almost entirely. If you struggle in science reconsider taking him. Tests are fair.
I cannot express how rude this professor is. I have never met someone who was so unwilling to accommodate students. His summer class is not worth it, you are literally trading your life for this class. He is extremely unorganized and does not tell you when anything is due, so make sure to check LONCAPA every day. He is a horrible lecturer.
This man really does not know how to teach in a short term period. he is rude, like he sends emails to us as if we wanted the class to be online, most of us would be on campus away from other responsibilities if it were in person. A lot of us don't have a choice and need the class. He needs to learn to accommodate. hw and cw and lab all in one day
Rude, does not answer emails, his practice problems are useless, the rest barley has anything from the homework (which is about 100 problems or more a week). 10/10 would not take again.
I swear I'm literally not stupid. My grade in this class does not reflect how much time and energy I put into this class. The pace was 4x faster than a normal class, but he gave us like 100+ questions to do for hw, 10-20 (or more) questions for cw, and then labs take like 2-3 hours plus watching lectures? and accuracy matters. Hes super rude too.
the first exam was around the withdraw date, so I would have withdrawn if I knew my grade earlier, everything is in loncapa and not graded by his syllabus so still dont know my grade. I'm gonna have to do a historical repeat and NOT TAKE HIM. Also, he sends us the rudest emails and isnt helpful whatsoever. anyone who says he is, is lying
Run. Do not take him for summer physics whatsoever. I have never encountered a professor so rude and determined to set students up for failure before. This class was originally meant to be in person but due to a PANDEMIC it was changed to online; but he has been nothing but unhelpful b/c of these unforeseen circumstances. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
Do not take his summer course. He is so rude to students, never responds to emails, we have our final tomorrow and he hasn't even sent out any communication to students about it. This course should not of been 4 weeks - cw, hw, and labs that take 4 hours to do all due the same day basically. He is not a good professor for this course.
His final was nothing like what was taught in recycled lectures he takes from other professors, or the hundreds of practice problems, homework questions he assigns. He is unfair, rude, and is not there to help you do well in the class. I have never had such an unorganized instructor before. Do not take him at any cost. Thanks for ruining my GPA
He's a solid guy, but absolutely can't teach online. I knew this class would be fast paced seeing as it's a summer class, but this was absolutely ridiculous. His exams are nothing like the homework/classwork assignments, and he doesn't respond to emails. The lectures are pretty much useless. Do not take his classes over the summer, or online.
if you dont have the energy to do physics for basically 12 hours straight in one day, dont take this class. man really doesnt know how to adjust or teach in an online format. do not take this prof. his lecturers arent helpful, his hw and cw is not similar to the exams and he gave way too much and the labs were hella long. dont take him.
for the amount of time and effort I put into this class, my grade is literally unacceptable. I spent HOURS daily on his labs, lectures, homework, and classwork. he simply cannot teach behind a computer screen, I regret wasting my time taking this course. after the second half of the class, i was just ready to give up. thank you for ruining my GPA
This man does not answer his emails even if his life depended on it. I had him for PHYS 201 and he was a great professor, but it did not translate into online classes. He is very vague, does not give clear instructions, and is not great with communication. Even the TA's could not get in contact with him.
I took this over the summer (and I dont go to vcu). Despite it being a lot of classwork, and the tests being difficult, the prof curved an insane amount. If you went to the optional zoom meetings, he was transparent about everything on the tests and explained things really well. He wants his students to do well!
Snarky and not helpful. He doesn't provide clarification at all. He acts as if the students are a nuisance. If you post/ ask a question, 9 times out of 10 he won't even acknowledge your question but just reply to tell you to read the readings, as if I haven't already done that!! Class is majorly self-taught and looking up things online. Not good!!!
Professor Skrubs is probably the best physics professor at VCU. He's super funny, super caring, and very considerate of students and their busy lives. His humor is a little eccentric, and he spends a little too much time on some concepts and not enough time on others, but all professors have their downfalls. I'd recommend him over the others.
By far the worst professor at VCU for online physics. Don't understand how one just decides not to teach and have the students teach themselves for an entire semester. He's rude, the tests DO NOT follow the study guide and there's so much homework/classwork you'll barely have time for other classes. Since both professors teach together, good luck.
He is the absolute WORST! Everything is self taught, never responds to emails and he's EXTREMELY rude. The amount of homework is insane that you wont have time for anything else. He does not care about his students at all! Good luck!
If this class isn't necessary for you then don't take it. Looks like it can be an easy A class but it's very to forget quizzes and homework can get pretty lengthy. No tests just midterm and final taken on lockdown browser
The professor isn't bad. It is important to stay on top of your work. However, the homework and practice tests are very math heavy, unlike the real exams which are very conceptual. The teacher doesn't really teach these core concepts that well. However, if you do the work & study, it is not to hard to get an A. There is a pretty big curve as well!
This class is dangerously hard online taken at VCU. If you can stay on top of managing classwork videos, note taking, long homework assignments, and completing labs, then you will manage with this course. However, be aware that the midterm and final exam did not have similar questions as the homeworks, so they are more concept based.
He never responds to any emails you send him and no matter the circumstance, no make ups period.
The grading guidelines are pretty clear, the homework and quizzes are on loncapa and there is a midterm and a final. you don't really see him that often unless you attend class, which is not mandatory. But he seemed like a pretty chill guy.
Physics 2 is honestly much easier than Physics 1. If you do the HW/CW/watch the lectures in this class, it is definitely possible to get at least a B. Practice directories are pretty similar to the midterm and final, and the labs aren't too bad. Exams are curved as well. The only hard part of this class is memorizing the content, but overall fine!
One of the craziest and most entertaining professors I've ever had. Very interactive, but very prone to go off on tangents. Has 2 different grading criteria and depending on which one you get a higher score on, he'll use for your final grade.Go to his study sessions after class for more direct feedback and you'll get an A guaranteed. Also immortal
Professor John is so funny! Def keeps you entertained throughout class with all his rants and tangents. Homework is time consuming but it's the best way to study for quizzes. Just be prepared to teach yourself at least half of the material. He does go over stuff, but most of it is up to you to figure out.
You'll enjoy his class if you don't mind studying on your own. He likes to go off on tangents in lectures, but it's still a good idea to go to them because he's good at making things simple. Homework is pretty heavy, and can get even worse if you don't study and understand the information. Overall he makes it pretty easy to get a good grade.
Doesnt teach. Doesnt know how to work the internet (tophat). Will often go off topic and doesnt explain stuff. Will often say this is basic stuff you should know already. I swear he comes to class high most of the time. Bi weekly quizzes. Weekly homework, a midterm and final.
Useless and doesn't respond to emails. Skip him if you enjoy peace or happiness.
Avoid this professor at all costs. He spent more time talking about his personal life than he did with lectures. I had to teach myself all semester and it still wasn't enough. I will definitely be retaking this at a community college and transferring over the credits so it doesn't tank my overall gpa.
The only real positive I can give is that he drops 5 in class grades and isn't tech savvy so he left the tophats open all day. I skipped the rest of the semester after the midterm as it made more sense for me to teach myself than waste an hour and 15 listening to this man ramble on about god knows what.
Really nice guy, but not a great professor. His lectures never actually included much physics, it was just stories from his personal life or motivational speeches about how we weren't putting enough time into this course. He drops many grades and doesn't know how to use TopHat so an A is doable. Don't take him if you actually want to learn physics.
Gets very off-topic but is funny. Would recommend 50 min cause over that he can get to me a little much. Only two tests, however, they are curved. If you can just learn by doing the hw you can get an A. I didn't even read the textbook. Hw can be enough to teach yourself. He is available after hours
Very entertaining prof and extremely chill. You honestly don't even have to go to class, just make sure to do the hw and quizzes by looking at the PowerPoints. Exams are basically the same format as hw questions, so you know exactly what to study. Really easy and minimum effort class, definitely take it for your gen ed.
The people who talk about teaching themselves the material are exaggerating. You do your homework online, with a practice section that has the same questions as the homework. You get the quiz, midterm, and final questions ahead of time (also available for unlimited practice). It is not bad. Skrobs is also an entertaining person. Easiest class.
Professor Skrob is a very nice man but can get scatterbrained during lectures and often has to be reminded of the topic at hand. The work load is not too bad but it can be much at times. The concepts can be hard and he does his best to explain him but yes, this is a class where you somewhat have to teach yourself. Caring and supportive too.
He's the best professor for physics out of the vcu options. I recommend him best and even tho he's all over the place you're more likely to understand some concepts, the others you need to teach yourself.
Skrobs makes Physics so chill and he wants his students to pass! It's hard to not get an A or B in his class, just show up to class, understand the HW, and review the study practice questions for final/midterm! Skrobs is the best physics professor!
He is a good and funny Professor. All over the place but if you show up for class you will be good. Weekly online homework and a quiz every other week. 2 In person exams but they are the same as the homework. All he cares about is if you show up.
The best professor! He truly cares about everyone's success and is extremely helpful both in and out of class. As long as you study and come to class, you will do very well.
Skrob is unhinged but so am I. I enjoyed his lectures, did the work, and walked away with A's. Summer 201 + 202 was a slog but I just went to YouTube or OpenStax when something didn't make sense. If you have ADHD and a sense of humor you'll have a great time.
Professor John keeps things entertaining, but you'll need to put in the work. Lectures can veer off, so use resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook to stay on track. Manage the homework and you can do well, but the exams require deep understanding.
Took summer PHYS 201 & 202 as a non-vcu pre-health student. Prof Skrob is great- class set-up is simple & easy to succeed. 2 hr labs 3 days a week usually last ~1 hour. 2 hr lecture every day can be rough but he goes off-topic often so not 2 hrs of straight boring lectures. 2 hw assignments a week that are exactly like the test questions, 2 exams.
definitely an interesting guy. wasnt a hard class by any means, but he goes off topic a lot which makes it difficult to pay attention. when he tries to explain something he makes it very easy to understand, however he rarely does this. tried going to office hours but all he would talk about is his ex wife, ex gf, personal stuff that i didnt care ab
I would swap my major to physics just because of this professor, promote him to head
I swap my major to physics just because of this professor
best of the best, would swap my major to physics
would swap my major to physics
He's a goofball who will tell you more about his family than science.
John is a goofball, and he is sure to make you laugh throughout the entire class period. His classes are easy as long as you put in the effort and SHOW UP, otherwise there's not much room for error! The homework is the same stuff over and over again, so I would recommend you not use AI and just learn the (very simple) content.
The class was very easy, but it was hard to actually learn anything, just felt like memorizing the homework questions. He is funny but super adhd and talks more about his family and personal life than the actual topics. I could never stay engaged during class because of that. He is a nice guy and super easy grader.
