WEIRDO, with no teaching skills. Not helpful. Use to have a NIN sticker on his door.....but now its on mine!!! :o) boo hoo!
Great teacher, easy to understand, explains concepts very well. Not a grade Nazi.
A brilliant mathematician and super teacher.

Really knows his stuff, willing to work with students, puts forth effort to make his students succeed. Really nice guy.
Brilliant teacher, tests can be hard but after a few they become predictable. TONS of notes but he is willing to help you if need be. Easy going classes.
writes with one hand and erases with the other. but overall a good prof.
ok teacher, not the best, not the worst, you will have to study but he is good with grading, cuts you slack and you get to drop grades too
He gives practice exams that are very much like his tests. He gives reviews for quizzes, too, which are very easy. He sometimes acts like you're really stupid when you ask questions, though, and he's really weird. But I would take him again.
seems to be a good guy. though he is a little bit goofy and talks monotone. He does grade fair and gives you practice exams and practice quizzes with the same type q's. If you study, you'll do fine. I'd take him over any other math teacher i've had.
There would be no complaint if you could ask a question. You are made to feel stupid by asking anything. He is very clear but only if you are taking the class for the 3rd time. You won't learn you just have to figure out the tests from the study sheets
I've liked him so far......I'll definitely have him again for the next cal.
Great teacher! He knows his stuff and is great with partial credit. He even gives practice questions for the quizes and practice exams for the tests. Take him!
highly recommend to have him for cal. He speaks monotone...yeah, sometimes i fell sleep; however, he is a great prof. Do homework and his study guide and you'll do fine on the test.
Cleareyes is awesome.
Great guy! His practice tests are very useful. I'd take him again for sure.
He is a good professor. If i could take him again i would. You do have to study, and his homework and study guides help.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He is too complicated and makes things way harder than they should be. He does not help when he can tell everyone is confused. He is more interested in the calculator than he is in teaching the subject! BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!!
Doesn't take roll. Practice tests for each exam. Not very clear on how to do problems. His way of teaching is fairly fast-paced and clarity is lacking. Expect lots of self-study.
Very hard. Loves to teach about calculator instead of simplifying math
very nice and thinks he's funny so laugh at his jokes (they're not that bad!)
Gives Study Guides with answers to prepare for tests, partial credit for most tests. Not clear on explaining how to do problems. If you're not very good at math and don't want to do a lot of self-studying then you might want to rethink taking him.
He is a great math teacher. Very easy going and laid back. If you fail his class it is because you don't come on review day. Do homework come the day before the tests to review and you will pass. If you are not a good math student you should go to class every day. Because he explains everythin

Very unclear in explaining, makes learning the material extremly hard even when he knows the class is lost. Study guides slightly differ from tests. Monotone and fast-paced, strives to study the calculator instead of easier ways to solve problems. DO NOT TAKE if you're NOT good at math, believe me.
Do not take this class if you have trouble with Math!!! He's not very good at explaining.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS !!!!!!!!!
I just had Calc 2! And for a summer course, was I crazy? Not at all with Dr. Sligar, he makes the toughest of math courses simple. He is a brilliant mathematician and is a great teacher. He helps out tremendously with practice Q's for quizes and practice exams for the tests. He's the BEST!

he's a pretty good teacher. makes a lot of ridiculous jokes, and has a funny laugh. you pretty much just need to pay attention in class and if u can handle doing some homework on yur own than you should be alright.

BORING MONOTONE!!!! IF you want to sleep, be in his class
I took him for college Alg. I loved him! he was an amazing teacher. i had like a 97 avg. in the class. go to class and he gives you really detailed notes. if you do the review you will Ace the test! I am taking him agian for pre calc! He looked like hitler when he had a facial hair and talks dry but is a great teacher!
He is extremely boring and monotone, I fell asleep on several occasions, but his very dry sense of humor, can be funny. If you have a strong background in math, he will be ok to take, but otherwise find somebody else to take.
if youve had algebra in high school this class will be really easy. gives good notes although it can get boring. not too strict about anything. if you do the review the test will be easy.
Real easy going, not really strict about anything. Very knowledgable about the class, however he is monotoned...but math was never exiciting to me anyways.
Excellent calculus teacher, but you have to make him slow down or else he will keep getting into new materiel. He is very open to all questions and will answer them as in depth as possible. Corny sense of humor, but he acknowledges it, so you don't groan quite as loudly. His practice tests as well as solutions before exams are very helpful.
Great teacher! A little dry at first, but loosened up later.
hes monotonous but nobody can make math exciting. fairly easy. he doesnt require that you come to class so i only came for tests and taught myself the material the night before from his online practice tests. tests were no problem.
took a little getting used to, i enjoyed mr. sligers class. his corny jokes made it worth the while! even on the hardest of subjects he made it seem easy. great professor...you just have to listenand do the practice tests.
You must come to class and do the review to get an A in the class. His test are harder than the test review. It is not an easy A.
He is very good at doing as many examples as you need until you understand the concept. As long as you pay attention in class and study the reviews, you will do well on the quizzes and tests. You DO NOT want to miss this class b/c it is very hard to catch up.
Sligar is gangsta. If you struggle with math take him. He gives partial credit on test questions. Be warned that the practice test are easier than the exams.
Sligar is fairly understanding about everything! really cool and really loves wat he does and can teach very rare even in college! drops the lowest quiz and FINAL! how great? gives practice tests/quiz's and will meet w u b4 exam if students want 2! must do homework on own otherwise u r setting yoself up 4 failure! good luck!
He is dorky, but makes you understnad everything before going to the next lesson! He explains everything and his tests are harder than review sheet but as laong as you understand you will do fine!
John Sligar is a good professor. I hate math but he made it easy to understand. Beware that the tests are much harder than the reviews! I would definately take him again if i had to take another Math.
Dr. Sligar is a great guy, he understands that students have a life outside of class. The homework isn't too bad, he explains things well. Be careful of tests, he always makes the questions trickier than the quizzes or reviews - study the hard problems from the book. Warning: He is very monotone and has a tendency to put people to sleep. Bueller...
He gets a chile pepper! He was HOT on those jokes this semester lol. The class was really loose, we played a few pranks in class but still learned ALOT! Loved the class, his teaching style, his helpfulness, his attitude and enthusiam. Yes he is a bit(maybe very) monotonous, but I love it. Talks alot about aliens and dead bodies though lol
very montone and boring. he moves fast in lecture and doesnt do the best job at explaining stuff. he's on a much higher level math mentality than his students. goes off on lots of tangents. but take notes, study using his reviews, and you'll do fine on the tests..
DO NOT take this class at 8:30 in the morning! Needed a large cup of coffee every morning to stay awake. Really nice guy, funny in a nerdy way. Uses every second of class, so never plan on leaving early. Earned a B in the class, but it took work
He's a nice guy, makes goofy jokes, but speaks in monotone. He'll put you to sleep. His tests are always much harder than the review or quiz. Doing your homework and memorizing diagrams is essential in his class.
He's monotone and might put you to sleep. He's pretty funny at times and can be dry. He teaches you how to use you TI Calculator. I still found Pre-Cal difficult and ended up with a D. I'm taking Pre-Cal AGAIN and signed up for his class because I know how he teaches and tests! Always gives Study Tests before hand and goes over them before the test
Great professor. Very helpful and is totally fair on exams. His study guides are helpful. but like every class, u can't procastinate. U have to always practice the work, do the hw, and pay attention in class. He has a cool sense of humor...lol. highly recommend. I never thought I would make an A, and he helps diminish the rumors on how hard precal i
Nice and fair teacher. four things that suck: his exams are harder than the quizes and reviews, he NEVER lets you out early, and he writes fast and is monotoned. but he is willing to help, if your taking this in the four week summer session be prepared to work hard.Im bad at math but still managed to get a B. I recommend him.
Dr. Sligar is an amazing precalculus teacher! Never thought I would make an A..but I did :) He can be monotone at times, nothing extreme though. Pay attention and do the study guides and you are gold!
He has a Ben Stein voice so at 8 am its not what you want to here. His study guides are the test but you can't get over how boring he is
Monotone!!! Ahh don't take at 8 in the morning you will fall asleep!! He is somewhat hard to keep up with so ask questions to slow him down if you need to! He doesnt give homework, and the study guide he gives you is basically the test..make sure you know formulas well!! He grades very easy-take him..just NOT early!
First off, he is monotone. Secondly, his jokes aren't funny, and thirdly, it was so hard to understand what was going on half the time. He just uses letters for examples. and he talked to us like we were stupid. it was like 2 plus the square root of yellow equals grapes but everyone knows that. not recommended if you need to do homework
Okay professor. His reputation for being monotonous is completely true, but it does not make him boring and sleep inducing. Study the sections he lectures over for the quizes and go over the study guides provided and you'll pass easily.
Definitely, one of the best teachers this school has. I had him for calc 2 and am taking him for differential equations. He IS monotone and tells corny jokes, but overall, his class is great!
No wet fishes in the face. If you fail it's your fault. Do not blame it on Sligar. you just suck at math and should probably give up! Other then that great teacher and he is funny if you like math/math jokes
i like Dr.Sligar, even though he reminds me of the guy that does those clear eye commercials...wow lol but his jokes are so lame i laugh at every one of them, i failed his class first time around because i suck at math but i am taking him this summer because i know how he teaches and i like it! i wont fall asleep lol
Sligar is a good professor. He goes over many examples for each piece of material so it's easier for you to understand. He gives out a study guide with the solutions for each test which is parallel to the test. He grades pretty fairly and he drops the lowest test and lowest quiz. We had 5 of each so there wasn't too much material on each.
Great professor but extremely monotone. The book is hardly used but you have to by it for the online software. He gives practice tests online for bonus points which are exactly like the tests so make sure you do those. I've made all A's on the tests and I would recommend all freshman to take him for college algebra.
I took him for college algebra and made A's on all his test. Very monotone so don't take him in the morning or you'll fall asleep. Taking him for pre calc!
Sligar is a very difficult prof academically, esp. in multivariate calculus, which is difficult by itself anyways. However, he's willing to work with students to ensure they succeed. If you're a visual learner you'll do well -- he's a visual teacher.
Good guy with a quirky sense of humor. He knows his stuff and tends to go a little fast. Gives opportunities for 10 bonus points on all tests and is a moderate grader. Tends to be hard to sit through for more than an hour at a time (his voice is kinda mono-toned) but definitely reliable in terms of academic knowledge and solid teaching.
Teaches a great class in Logic and Set. Fair grader and gives bonus problems on tests. He starts lecture when he gets to the classroom, not when the clock says it's time to, so get there a couple minutes early if possible! Very willing to answer questions and accommodate necessary absences.
He is a very easy math teacher. He gives test study guides before each test along with bonus points on each test. Sample quizzes. He is monotone which can put you to sleep. At some points I did not understand what he was doing on the board, but the book helped. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but he passed around a sheet to sign in.o
This class was hard toward the end. It is easy in the beginning so make the highest grade you possibly can in the first few tests. His grading method makes it so you will defiantly pass with effort. Your highest grade counts the most. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT HOMEWORK. ALL OF IT. WORTH IT.
Sligar, despite his monotone voice, never fails to teach any topic. In his PreCalc class, he not only explains the concept but shows applications of it. Homework is optional, and his quizzes/exams have a review very similar to them beforehand. He has a dry sense of humor, but his class was very enjoyable. Do the homework, pay attention, easy A.
Dr. Sligar is a great professor. He jokes in class sometimes and is very monotone. However, other than that he do give you partial credit on quizzes and tests. He also offer extra credit points on your tests.I will suggest you take advance of every extra credit opportunity. He also give you a study guide that is very similar to the test or quiz.
"Remember the ducks" -- the most important or valuable thing I learned in this class. His voice is monotone and I couldn't get through the lectures without caffeine. Sometimes I left his class feeling more dumb than when I went in. At least there's no homework or quizzes.
Talks very slow and monotone. He cracks a lot of jokes, which is nice, but it is tough to pay attention in class with the way he teaches. I was so bored I could not even focus on what he was teaching. Make sure you practice the problems on MyMathLab because they are extra credit- so you probably would want to buy MyMathLab.
Dr. Sligar is brillant; however sometimes his teaching method is hard to understand. If you took pre-cal in high school you will be fine, but if you didn't I would not recommend him for pre-cal. It's mostly a teaching yourself class. He does however give 10 extra credit points on each test and drops the lowest grade.
Dr. Sligar can be very monotone, but also extremely funny. I took pre-calc in high school so this class was a review. He gives up to 10 bonus points on every test. And he grades test very lightly (I solved problems wrong and I still got points for attempting). Easy A if pre-calc is a review, not as easy if you are learning it for the first time.
Sligar is the most monotoned man on the planet, but he makes some funny comments. Painful to sit through because his teaching method can be really hard to understand, he's pretty scattered. Drops a test and a quiz, attendance is optional, but you won't pass if you don't go. Offers 10 extra credit points on each test through MyMathLab. HW optional.
I had Dr. Sligar for Pre-Calc, and he did an excellent job going through and explaining the concepts and answering any questions so that everything was completely clear. He also makes sure you know exactly what kinds of questions will be on quizzes/exams. If you pay attention in lectures and do the homework, you'll be great.
Lectures can be had to understand sometimes, but he provides study guides for tests and quizzes which are very helpful. He also provides extra credit for each test! Overall, his class wasnt bad. Try not to miss too many days or youll fall behind
He is the best professor I have ever gotten. He is monotoned so you may fall asleep a couple times. But he really helps and makes sure that everyone understands the concepts and he makes sure to really prepare us for the tests and quizzes. The study guides he give are basically the test just different numbers. He also gives extra credit.
very monotoned have to pay attention test review not always like the test
His teaching style just clicked
I'm normally an A student in math but I did not do well this semester. Nice man but does not explain the material well at all. You will have to read the book and teach yourself which is not easy to do. Homework is optional. Extra Credit available for each test. Only grades are: 4 tests, 4 quizzes, and the final. Would not take Dr. Sligar again.
One of the most lethargic beings I've ever seen, and also one of the best teachers. Posts assignments online before each test that give you up to 10 points extra credit with 2 tries. Also posts sample problems online with solutions before every test. The problems on the tests are the exact same as the review problems. Excellent teacher.
He was a super funny professor who often took time to work with all his students. He has a good heart. Despite this, his voice is pretty monotoned, and its hard to stay awake sometimes. He drops the lowest exam grade and the lowest quiz grade which is really helpful.
Sligar is a very sweet man. He loves math and can talk about it all day. His lectures are long and not really helpful. I ended up teaching myself a lot of the material that I needed to know for the test. He does give extra credit through mymathlab and will drop the lowest test and quiz grade.
Very monotone voice and difficult to pay attention in class. Material was not explained so much as dumped in front of us. Steps and processes were not given and he simply wrote it down on the board and expected students to be able to follow along.
He is monotone. If you pay attention and practice, youll be fine. Theres extra credit on My Math Lab, so if you do that, itll be added to the test. Plus, he drops the lowest test grade. It should be an easy A. He is fast-paced, so if you have any questions, ask him or look in your notes. He provides study guides, which are similar to his tests.
Sligar really doesnt care about attendance, its up to you if you want tot go to class. He is very monotonous and hand writes the notes on the board. He likes to show how to do problems in excel ??? The textbook is free, but it was also hard to teach myself how to do certain topics from it. I would recommend a different professor for this class.
Great professor! We only had 4 quizzes & 4 tests that we were graded on and your lowest quiz and test grades were dropped at the end of the semester. He gave out extra credit for each test, which makes it possible to get above an 100%, which I did on 2 of the 4 test. Easy class to pass w/ an A if you attend class regularly and do the extra credit.
Highly recommend the office hours
Extra credit is always available and was very lenient on deadlines with respect to the struggles on students. A exceptionally kind and caring man who genuinely knows what he's talking about. In class he has a habit of assuming you know algebra like the back of your hand so if you're weak in that subject, be sure to freshen up.
Dr. Sligar is great. I took statistics with him. I'm terrible at math, but he makes it easier by reviewing before every test and the tests are very similar to the reviews he posts on D2L.
I took Dr. Sligar in Spring 2020. It is up to you if you want to go to class (in-person and online). He was monotonous and handwrites notes on the board. He liked to show how to do problems in Excel. The textbook was free, but it was hard to understand certain topics. He likes students asking questions and is willing to help them if they need it.
