Reading these comments is unbelievable!! Dr Spano's Bio class is a really good class to actually LEARN something about what you eat and how it affects your body. If you're too lazy to read the chapters for the exams then yea you'll fail. Instead of cutting class maybe you should actually attend it!

prof spano is one of the best teachers i've ever had. he is always willing to answer questions and discuss any info a student will bring to class that contradicts whats being taught so as to clarify any misunderstandings. he expects you to use your brain and do the work, but he is by no means vague. i prob wont take a sci class unless he teaches it

this man has great knowledge about the material he teaches...if you pay attention you will learn alot about the foods you eat and think about what foods you put in your body...also how the government is corrupted when it comes to regulating foods

When I first read these comments I was so worried about having him for BIO LAB....listen people, I'm assuming that he prob read these comments and changed his class work load arouund because all we did were a few necessary labs that didn't count for anything and took two exams...He was so nice and he offered to help us study for our lecture tests

This Professor was extremely thorough and very knowledgeable. He explained everything clearly and in a language you can understand. Also, after class, he was willing to explain things even further if needed. On the 1st day of class, he gave us a packet, which contained the majority of material for tests. 1 of the best Professors I have come across.

I have Professor Spano for Human Nutrition this semester. When I first saw all these comments prior to this semester, I was scared of him. Prof. Spano is great. Enjoyed his class and learned a great deal of information. Prior to attending his class Nutrition was not a big interest of mine. Well needless to say it is now. Like someone else said anyone who complains about him was just looking for an easy grade. I did not score as high as I should have but that was no fault of Spano.

Dr. Spano is an amazing teacher. He presented all of the information in a clear manner that was easy to understand. He made long,difficult chapters. His tests were a little difficult but fair. He tells you exactly what you need to know and if you were unsatisfied, it was because you were unprepared. He is very nice, enthusiastic and intelligent.

I really enjoyed this class and the professor's knowledge about the subject. It made me completely rethink how my body functions on the nutrition I put into it.The fact that others said he was "egotistical" is immaterial and completely untrue.

Despite reading the reviews here I still chose to take his class and I was pleasantly surprised. He is an easy professor who only requires that you go to class and pay attention. If you do that you can easily get an A. Definitely recommend.

I really did not want to take this class before enrolling, but am very glad that I did. It was an excellent ice breaker to Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Spano's lectures are very clear and if you don't understand something he will answer it for you via e-mail in great detail. His tests were challenging, but were certainly very reasonable.

I had taken Dr. Spano last semester for Bio 115 and loved his class so much that I decided to take him again for Bio 226. He is one of the best professors Nassau and his lectures are very interesting. If you are a Nutrition major, definitely take him! You will gain so much knowledge about food in general that you won't get anywhere else!

Professor Spano is great at what he does. His class was interesting, and I certainly learned more than I anticipated. However, be warned. His exams are brutal and if you don't keep up with the material, you'll be so lost. He doesn't babysit anyone whatsoever, and he gives you a taste of what it'd be like studying in a 4 year university, firsthand.

Good teacher, just keep up with the class notes because is not an easy class. At the end of the semester He gives an assessment which helps boost up your grade :) . You don't need a book for this class he uses PowerPoint. Overall is a good class to take just keep up with studying!!!

Dr. Spano's exams are hard but that’s due to the course, he gives you the notes to study, understand it inside out, you don’t need the textbook. Pathophysio is tough & there’s lots of information so don’t fall behind. He's funny & helpful during office hours. Don’t let the negative reviews deter you “A” is achievable but it’s up to YOU! I recently graduated from nursing school and earned my RN license two months ago. I never enjoyed a class as much as I did Prof. Spano's Bio-nutrition and Pathophysiology. I wanted to go to class and learned more from his class than any other class taken. Bio 226 has changed my eating habits and may prolong my life. I love Prof Spano. Thumbs up!

He a intellectual professor and makes his lectures to be very insightful. This course actually changed my outlook on the way i eat and drink. However you must study for his test if you expect to get above a 80 for they can tend to be a little hard. But dont let this get you down , because his lectures give you about 75% of what you need to know.

Dr. Spano, has a bad rap if i may so say. He is tough but as long as you GO BY HIS LECTURE NOTES you will be fine for his exams. His exams do make you think out of the box at times, just take your time and you will be find. Labs were amazing and I will be taking him for 1 more class required for PA school. A lot of effort will get u an A.

Professor Spano is brilliant. He gives great lectures and keeps you entertained throughout the class with his no pun intended jokes and witty comments. He is very helpful in answering your questions. It is imperative you dont miss class but dont worry about buying a textbook because he tells you everything you may need to know in his lectures.

Professor Spano was one of the best teachers I've had at ncc. He's not the typical lecture teacher, he incorporates his own knowledge (which he has a lot of) in the lectures to make it interesting. He drops the lowest grade regardless if its a test or the project. This class was an eye opener and i will definitely take what I learned with me.

Prof. Spano is very smart and gives you fun facts throughout lecture.. it looks like some of the people leaving some of these reviews may not have studied very much, which is what you have to do to earn good grades in a SCIENCE class.. I wanted to take him for 115 but his section got filled up SO quickly.. now same problem for 131 ahhh

His class was great. He obviously knowledgeable on the subject. He expects the class to participate, but he guides you if you don' t have the answer. Pay attention to his lectures! All the answers are in his lectures and powerpoint. If you are sensitive, you won't understand his humor. Overall the class was MUCH better than I expected.

Took this class during the summer for my lab requirement. Professor Spano is a pretty cool guy and I believe he knows what he's talking about (even though he sometimes goes off topic). If you're a fastidious and hard-working student, the class should be easy for you, but if you don't study at all, you're screwed. The project was a no-brainer.

this is a very straight forward teacher ,he tell you exactly what to do to receive an A+. i took him as a summer coarse and all you need to do is have good attendance and study materials on power points. he makes it clear what you need to focus on but if not he is always open to help. I took Bio115&Bio226 with Prof Spano. Not only does he know what he is talking about, but he is passionate about what he teaches. He always has great energy&a great sense of humor. No homework&no textbook. You just have to pay attention&study. If you want a prof. who will inspire you and leave you with knowledge for life, Spano is the way to go.

Great teacher, took bio nutrition. keeps the whole class interested on the topic using extremely accurate metaphors, no textbook necessary. if you listen to him during the lecture you will not fail the test. All slides are posted on blackboard making studying easy. and exam grades are posted online 20 mins after the test

He's funny. He gives a lot of stories that are helpful. I only wish he gave us 10% for attendening class b/c if you miss 2 classes you get kicked out which is fair but can I at least get some credit for it? No extra credit but he's fair when it comes to grading. He's not hard. Study PP & bold words & other important things and youll be fine.

A professor who has been through the process, we as potential health care providers, will eventually go down. Although he may seem standoffish, once he gets going he is open to meeting with you if you are concerned about your marks. The syllabus is straight forward; just come to class, read the material beforehand and get to know him. Cool dude

First and last test are the trickiest, the two middle exams are the easiest. Study the red only on the powerpoints it saves a lot of time, rather then studying the whole packet. In general he wasn't that bad, just study notes highlighted in red and you will do fine. I got a B+ because i didn't do well on the first and last exam.

MOST AMAZING PROF! He answers Q's very clearly, he gives really organized slides. book isnt a must but I found it helpful to read the chapters before and after each lecture (deff helped me get that A haha). His notes are condensed and easy to follow. The exams are very straightforward and come directly from the highlighted points in the notes. Overall, a very solid choice.

Professor Spano is one of the most underrated professors of the bio department. I feel extremely lucky and honored that I had him as my patho professor. His lectures were very clear and to the point, just like his exams were. And the knowledge he has about the medicine field is unbelievable. Definitely take him if you could. Hes such a great prof.

He clearly identifies on his power points what will be on the exam, so no curve balls. Prof. Spano is an amazing professor who I would take again. I would have gotten a higher grade but, I didn't listen to his advice at first about studying. Professor Spano Is fair, hes very clear in the syllabus and informing the class whats expected. He is very specific with using apa7 and not using the correct format will effect your grade. Overall he gives you the information that you need to pass his class.

Professor Spano was one of the best professors I have ever had. I just had him this semester with everything being moved to online. Cares about his students and lectures are incredibly helpful and useful in real life. Would recommend him to ANYONE! Tests arent too difficult I just do worse on timed tests.

This class was not difficult in terms of work. There are four assignments, four discussions, and five tests(drops lowest score). Each subject of work is 1/3 of the grade. For each work I recommend combing through the textbook and power point that he gives because he wants a detailed explanation. Must write in APA or will lose 25 pts. Great class.

Do the work and get an A simple as that. Follow the instructions for each assignment/discussion carefully. If he asks you to have 3 responses make sure you do it not 2 or 1 he takes a lot of points off. **Take the the time out to Learn APA Format otherwise he takes of 25 Points and you will regret it.**

I got scared reading some of these reviews but he honestly is not that bad. I took him online. He gave us 5 exams dropped the lowest grade. Just know apa format please. I made the mistake of not following the apa format on the first assignment and received a 50, but after that I followed everything he asked for and did pretty well. Youll be fine!

If you cant handle this professor then youre probably a child. This was the easiest class Ive ever taken. Hes awesome. The work isnt difficult and his tests arent bad. He likes APA format. Just make sure you know how to do that. If you complain you were probably just looking for an easy A and dont want to do any work

Spano is incredibly fair and this online course is so organized. His powerpoints ARE the exams. His expectations are clear from the start and it's never asking too much. If you did poorly in the course, its because you intentionally didn't follow simple directions. Learn APA, learn the material and get an A. He's also considerate and prompt.

He's an amazing professor. You can tell that he really cares about teaching. His tests are 30 minutes long and 34 questions, but they are easy.

i took his online course. learn APA format and make sure you use it properly to avoid getting points taken off. he gives PLENTY of time to get assignments done. he is a tough grader, but he is thorough about what he wants. read the syllabus carefully, complete assignments on time, and review the material frequently and your grade will reflect it

I took an online course, and Dr. Spano provided everything that students needed to know in order to pass. He goes in details about everything you just have to read very carefully to catch everything that's being suggested. Communication throughout the course was 100% there. Great Professor!

Everything is laid out in the syllabus and he is clear about what he wants. Dr. Spano explains why you received the grade you got and how to improve for the next time. Wish the length of time for the test was longer as it is basically one minute per question, but if you know the material that should not be a problem. Take him, you wont regret it

Aside from 4 exams + an optional final being the only grades you will receive, his lectures are top quality. Actually learned a lot. Exams are kinda rough but it's doable if you study. The intimidating syllabus he sends before the first day of class is to scare you, though the content is true. Man is chill, I recommend.

I was scared of Patho esp as online short summer session class, but just stay on top of work. Good teacher, clear on what to do. Knows a lot and is always available for questions via email. Only thing that put me off in the beginning was his syllabus - 5+ pages on how to write an email to him..he is def very clear on what he wants from you =P

Summer online class. The syllabus is intimidating but clearly outlines what is expected. There are 4 exams and optional final exam- the lowest grade gets dropped. There are 3 assignments and 3 discussions. He is strict on proper usage of APA format but provides examples of how to create in text citations as well as the references format.

Dr. Spano was very clear about what he expected for the course. If you can read and follow directions, you'll get an A.

Understanding the materials is important for getting a good grade. During the lecture ,he always points out the key take away for the exam. I will take his class again if he teaches other subjects.

Super interesting lectures and tests are very fair. If you put the necessary time in, you will get a good grade end of story. Grading is full of opportunity to do well and clear on what is expected to get a good grade. For the in-person class there was no homework, just studying. Super personable and friendly and I cannot recommend him enough!

Great professor 1st test is very heavy with material, the rest of his test aren't to bad if you study a decent grade is achievable. If you don't his “optional final” won't be so optional for you. Overall good experience very passionate in his teachings.

His tests are heavy and his wording gets confusing but everything you need to know is in his slides. What it says on the syllabus he sticks to and there is no trying to get him to change it. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to take this course.

He is a tough grader, and you need to make sure your following his instructions however if you do miss something, he gives you CLEAR feedback so you don't miss it again. He is easy to email, and answers any questions. He's a chill dude who likes his assignments done correctly, simple. I would take him again.

Amazing professor, took him in person, rate my ratings don't do him any justice. Worked for my A and he's has pretty good lectures.

Took his class online asynch. Tough grader when it comes to assignments, small mistakes can cost you 25-30 points. But overall a good class. You'll learn alot. Consists of assignments, discussions and exams. Will allow you to take a cumulative exam and drop the lowest exam grade. Just follow instructions and do the work and you'll be fine!
