Funny guy and a very good instructor. His tests aren't that hard but they aren't really that easy too. If you actually study what he gives you, then you will do fine.

This professor really knows his stuff. He cares about students and does what he says he's gonna do. The class is not easy. Lots of students drop or fail, but if you study and do your work you will learn a lot and get a good grade.

Professor Speer is one of the best here at Stafford. He answers questions and helps you understand what he teaches. Easy class, i highly recommend anyone wanting to take government to take him.

Really cool guy. Loves to chat with the class. Made me laugh. He also lectures well enough for you to take down notes. Simply look over the notes and read the text, and you can make an A.

Smart and committed guy. He cares about students and wants them to learn, but you have to have a brain and use. He won't read the book to you or read his notes to you. If students participate, the class works. If they sit there like empty minded fools, it flops.

He is a great guy and really knows his stuff , but the class is damned hard. i really enjoy the class and i feel like he is a great teacher, but his tests are near impossible to pass for some reason. I'd recommend finding an easier teacher, although he has a lot of insight to offer.

Great Professor with interesting lectures. Brings light to how and why government works the way it does, what weaknesses and strengths it has as well. Tests are somewhat difficult but the class is still easy to pass as long as you put in obvious effort and participate in class debate. Enjoyed this class and would recommend for GOVT 2301 and 2302.

Took online. Easiest A ever. Grade consisted of several 10 question quizzes and then 3 exams made up of exactly what was on those quizzes. All of it came straight from the textbook. He gave bonus points for contributing to message board discussions.

Fairly Easy. MUST read chapters. Quiz each week on 1 chapter, 3 tests with 300-400 word essay (gives essay before hand to copy and paste in test) and 3 discussions for extra credit. Easy - but must read! No papers!

Other students have left reviews stating his quizzes are exactly like his tests. I am taking his class right now and that is not the case. I printed off his quizzes and only 2 or 3 questions on the test are from his quizzes. The rest are from the chapters.

Must read your book and there are 9 quizzes and lowest one ia dropped. Three exams with an essay which is given ahead of time. He is great at responding back and class is not hard at all, but like I said, you need to read. The exam has some questions from the quiz but its not exactly all the same.

You definitely need to read the textbook if you want to get at least a B on the quizzes. There are at least 11 quizzes, drops one and there are mini essays to do for each of the 3 unit exams. I took the 8-week course, and there was always something to do at least every 2-3 days. He sometimes postpones a few of the tests. He grades essays easily.

I took is online class for US Govt. Take this class!!! There are a few essaysdiscussion posts but it is pretty much a participation grade. He has practice quizzes for each test so if you do those, the exams have the same questions! Easy A and he is very responsive by email.

Pretty chill professor, if you have taken US government you will probably pass with flying colors. He has a good personality and even though he is not a super in depth "there for you" type, the class is smooth sailing. Read the book and do the homework and I will guarantee you get at least a B or higher.

So I took this professor for govt 1 & 2. He can be funny and he does care. He knows his lectures can get boring so he tries to make them as interesting as possible. Homework was 20% online. 4 test. 4 reviews. Pay attention and you should pass.

This teacher is AMAZING! Literally did not try at all in this class, and ended up making A's on all my test. Yeah, lectures are long, but it's government, and pretty much repeats itself throughout the entire semester. If you want a good grade, take this teacher. Very cool, and doesn't mind use of phones, as long as you aren't being a nuisance.

He is an amazing professor. He makes gov't really interesting, he funny, and he lets you out early what a combo. You will have 3 test plus finals be ready to write during the test. Mindtap homework is super easy and must be completed om time. The textbook + mindtap is expensive. Overall his class was fun and I personally hated gov't.

Took his online class. GLAD I DID! He is really amazing. Small discussions, Mindtap homework/work is a lot but easy. Everything is in the textbook! Seriously, you cannot fail this class. Def. take him!

I did the 2nd start which was (8 weeks). It all consisted of two short essays (i think it was around 400 words each), four unit exams, three graded discussions which seem to be more of a participation grade and some Mindtap work which wasn't too bad. Exams are time limited so need to move quick. Other than that, it was pretty easy.

He's great. Took him online for 8 weeks. Course is broken down into 4 units. 1 exam for each unit. Can be a little tough, but take good notes from book & you'll be fine. There are also 3 participation postings that must consist of around 300-400 words. Just respond to the question, get to the word limit, get 100. No final. Definitely recommend!

He's great! I took him for an 8-week course and it moves by quickly. Just do your work and do it on time as he is very meticulous about due dates. Lots of reading on your own if you want to do well on the tests which are timed (gives you about 45-1 minute for each question). No final; just exams, discussions, and essays.

Enjoyed taking this class -- took an 8 wk course, so really had to be on top of the deadlines. Deadlines were more flexible than some prof. which is a relief when taking online classes. Prof. very responsive & courteous. I would certainly rec. him.

I took Dr. Speer's GOVT 2305 online class, and it was really easy. He responds very quick, and all the quizzes and test were easy to understand. Book was mandatory for the class. Overall, he is an amazing professor and I recommend him if you need to take this class. (I'm thinking about taking his GOVT 2306) :)tell

Best professor on the planet. Everything online was simple and easy. All the quizzes and test were mostly online! Not only is he an easy grader but he is so straight forward. I would take him a million times. If you care about our GPA take this class! He is so helpful and understanding. I turned in a late assignment and he gave me a 100!

Took him online during summer. Do work and you'll pass with easy A. His tests are hard so study ahead of time. Must get mindtap to be able to submit some assignments. He reopens some of the assignments at the end of the semester.

Took him for 2305 and 2306, he's an awesome professor and super understanding! He has like 3-4 tests that you take a semester, including the final exam and he literally gives you the review for everything. He even tells you what essay questions he might test you over you can prepare. He always begins the class talking about current events. Great!!

Professor Speer is fair. There is a lot of reading and you have to read if you want to do well on the exams. Minetap homework is also a lot to do but it is not hard. It just takes time to complete the work. All exams and no final. Some writing involved but not much. Manage your time for the reading and you will do well. I'd take him again.

Mr. Speer is a great teacher very easy class if you do the work. Must do work!! Be ready to buy Mindtap to do work. Very prompt in grading and replying to emails. Definitely recommend him.

Took as 8 week online class. Don't buy the textbook, you'll will use mind tap instead. Four exams, each worth 10% of class, no final exam. Three discussions, one short essay. Can't fail or miss any of the exams, 10% makes it a whole letter grade. He opened up all homework towards the end of the class, and it helped me to makeup a lot!

4 exams(NO FINAL EXAM) , plus MINDTAP(online hw for each chapter), each 20% of the overall grade. No paper or project. He will give review for the written exams. There would be one or two online multiple choices exam. He is an easy grader and the exams are pretty straight forward. Do the work and you definitely get an A.

Professor Speer's lectures are very good if he tells a story it relates to the topic. The test he gave were designed to play to each person's strengths. I am not good at politics, but because of his lectures and are class discussions before class, I did enjoy his class. Take him, do your work, study the notes, and you will get an A.

Very kind & understanding Prof. Took him for Fed Gov Online and was having a hard time getting used to an online class for the first time, but he cut me some slack the first month. He is very accommodating and helpful. 10/10 recommend, probably great in person lectures too.

I was just lucky to have taken his classes both GOVT 1 & 2 with HONORS college. Dr. Speer is by far one of the BEST professors I have taken. Although it was a 5 week class the material was well laid out so you don't feel overwhelmed. Everything is through connect (reading and exams) which you have to buy. 4 Exam, 2 Discussion post and 1 short essay. Please do yourself a favor and just take him you will not regret it.

I took an 8-week course, there were 8 discussions which were weekly but they are open from the beginning of the class so you finish the discussions in like a week, and there were 4 exams which were pretty easy most of the answers were on quizlet.

Easy class. Took online anytime, 1 discussion every week and each is due before the week ends. 4 tests but textbook and quizlet helps with that.

5 discussion posts and 3 tests. Each Discussion post was about real-life events where you had to do your own research but you could easily get an A for each post. The test was very easy too almost everything is online.

I had him for about 6 weeks for the summer online course. He's a very chill professor and it isn't a significant workload. I had 4 discussion posts and 4 exams but all were very easy. Discussions post require a little research, and he gave us links to use. The textbook is on openstax and you don't need to pay. Meet deadlines and you're good. :)

He is very understanding and motivates student to participate, I took his classes for four weeks, tests were easy and he was available to help with anything. I missed a test and emailed him, he opened the test. strongly recommended

Professor Speer was caring and gave clear instructions. He checked in weekly and was available if you needed assistance. My only warning is that he is a tougher grader when it comes to the discussion boards. Just be sure to follow the rubric and you will be fine. Overall, I would recommend taking his class; you will not regret it.

Professor Speer is great! He will do justice to your GPA. It is not an extremely easy class but it is not hard either. Tests are super easy and discussions are required about 5 of them. No LDB. You can also turn in work late with a penalty.

Professor John Speer was professional. We had 6 discussions boards and 4 exams, and he is sending a reminder a week before the exam. The class was clear and very organized. I did not find any hard time in this class. If you want peace of mind take him.

This was the easiest class I ever took. It was only 4 discussions with 300 word min and respond to 1 other person. The test were not proctored and quizletable. I never had to worry about this class because the discussions were interesting and the exams were simple, 40-50 multiple choice with one either essay or matching question at the end.

I took Mr.Speers class online anytime for 8 weeks and it was easy. Just 6 discussions(I think you had 1 week or 2 to do each so you had time) & 4 exams. I only got a B, because I forgot to do the final exam! So my grade dropped like 10 points. I would gladly take it again to get the A I would have gotten the first time it it wasn't for my mistake!

Mr. Speer's class was easy, it would be a blessing to students attending hcc if he returns to online anytime classes again. Best prof ever. Super informative, very nice to students. Gives lots of info ahead of time & cares about his class. Easy work, 4 discussions and 4 open browser tests worth 50% each. No lockdown. It's really simple and it's open textbook so you really can't "fail". I actually took him for both 2306 and 2305. 2306 is a little more heavy with work but can also be put off till the day of submission. As long as you read the material you honestly will probably never have to email him to ask questions.

Professor Speer is a good professor. The class has opens notes on some of the exams and there will be a few written exams that are easy if you study and look at the guide he gives you a few weeks before the exam. Overall if you want a good grade, take his class!

I took him for the 8 week mini session, he is a very caring professor personally. When I asked if he could reopen some assignments, he did it right away and he was not rude about it at all. Stay focused and you'll do good

Took this class over the summer, so we had a test and discussion almost every week. Most materials are taught through textbooks and video lectures. Speer is a really nice and chill guy. Allows for text make-ups. He is also a really fast grader. Does not provide much feedback on assignments, though. Would really like to recommend.

He was very nice he let me retake a test and sent a picture of his dog while on vacation the work was very easy just discussion post all are available on the first day the test were also easy only four test one of them was the final. For some discussions he sent link to post that had lots of reading required for the test.

He just understand the assignment, and doesn't take himself too seriously. He's not here to haze you or make your life hard. He tests your understanding of the material mostly with discussions, and simple exams. Overall my most chill class.
