His classes are really interesting, and his tests are mediocre, but he adds on a lot of points at the end of the quarter.
his class sucked it was hard but he did give an easy test at the end. there were only 220 points thats not alot.
His teaching style is VERY FAST. He uses power point and expects you to keep up with his rapid pace of instruction. I asked a few questions in class and when he answered them, he glared at me like i should know what's going on... VERY FAST!
Could come off looking and talking like a blowhard, it matters if you perceive him to be really knowledgable or really arrogant. Sometimes makes questionable comments that may have a hidden resentment or touch of hostility towards other cultures/religons
He makes you work, but if you do you learn alot and get the grade.
This guy is a must take if you are into archaeology. You get to handle real artifacts and you get to learn real archaeology. His lectures are cool and he always find some funny story to tell. But do the reading and take notes if you want a good grade.
This guy rocks he is so fun and makes class very nice to go to. I enjoy everything i learn from him and no matter what i would always take his classes again
this guy loves his female students
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY, he is seriously very horrible, very fast teaching, only 3 tests no homework, so if u mess up on the tests your screwed, some people are not testwise
he teaches very fast.He expects you to automatically know all this stuff. He gets too specific for a 100 class. When someone who wasnt his fav would ask a question he would barely answer and make them feel dumb.He also only gives 3 tests,no homework.
pays more attention to tests then actually teaching. likes to hear himself talk
Prof. Staeck is great, he loves what he teaches and always answers questions. The tests are easy if you come to class and pay attention. He hates slackers, though, so don't take him if you're lazy.
Hi, this is the STUDENT... this is not ratemyself.com here. Frankly, I don't appreciate his smug attitude here OR in class. Did not slow down when asked and wouldn't take questions when I tried to ask. He knows his stuff but is sure he knows best.
I think its clear you SHOULD do everything humanly possible to avoid getting this guy as your teacher! It really says something when a teacher has to go to a student site and RATE his own teaching. The class could've been taught in a more involving way, not just those damn power points & dumb movies
Dr. Staeck is the one reason why you should not take his class. I don't even know how he became a professor in this field to begin with. I could fall asleep within 10 minutes of his boring lectures on a subject that should be very interesting. He is very hard strict and won't listen to anyone
Dr. Staeck is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. And I've had teachers that don't speak English. I would say that he is slightly mentally retarded.

thinks he knows everything
Do your best to take archaeology with this guy. He knows his stuff and likes to talk about it, a little easy to get off on a tangent, though. Exams are a little tough but come straight from lecture. Class is usually small and laid back, lots of question and answer time.
All you stupid saps wrting bad stuff about him must not pay any attention in his class. He is one of the easiest teachers at COD and you all need to go back to kindergarten if you expect to be babied. He is very informative and funny to listen to. TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!!!! OH AND I HAVE
"Let's get it on!"-Prof. Staeck
Oh Yeah - Let's get it on is right!
very hard, unwilling to help you. if you have a question he treats you like you are stupid.
Class is really cool. Alot of people hate it because they just want the 3 requirements met, but the work and tests are easy. Prof always answers questions when asked, even has blind feedback forms if you want to ask a question without giving your name. Too many whiners in his classes, though.
Very great teacher, tests were easy as long as you took notes an attended class. Its an easy A honestly, without much effort.
Hard Tests! Lots of notes
Great teacher. He makes the class really intresting. You can get an A as long as you go to class, take notes and do the work like any other class. He is really a spectacular teacher.
Great teacher, will take him again!! Just study and take notes and you're fine. he' pretty funny too.
Hard exams, he doesn't give study guides, you just have to read 150 pages o more for the exams, plus the videos, plus another book. not recommended. The classes are just boring , without sense at all. Thanks god I finished my classes and I dont have to see him again.
Pretty easy tests, extra-credit on the tests, gives one every other week. Do the reading, take notes, go to class and have fun. Doesn't give people who don't work free passes. Expects college work, grades on college level. Definitely NOT high school so if you want that take another prof.
Mr. Staeck is a good Anthropology instuctor. He gives exams every other week, and has a great point grading system, which makes it more possible for a student to receive an "A" in his class. You must do the reading and studying in order to achieve this goal. Otherwise, he is a good teacher.

He was a funny guy. I don't like Anthropology at all, it was just a Gen Ed for me. But he definetly helped me out with passing the class. Plus, his tests are super easy. Simply just definitions from the book and always 33 q's.

Fun teacher, keeps it interesting and always tells little stories to make something easier to understand
he was a great teacher, he made the class interesting nice guy. If you takes notes and pay attention it will help, as it goes for study guides he doesnt give them out because i dont think other people even pay attention to his class because if u listen at the beginning of the class he stated to get the study text, u will get an A
awesome teacher, keeps it very interesting...reminds me of hagrad! so all i want to know is when do we get to ride the hippograffs?!
Professor Staeck is FANTASTIC! Take his Anthropology class, he is funny and really cares for his students. Read the book, and engage your brain in class! You'll learn a ton and have fun doing it. This is the best class I've taken @COD. He is truly inspirational and knows his stuff. Take his class, you won't regret it!
It may be a little boring just taking notes all the time, but I still like it!
This guys is great. I really enjoyed his class. You do have to work to get a good grade but he keeps it interesting and offers lots of help. Very cool guy, funny too.
Awesome teacher, who really knows his stuff. Kinda looks like Hagrid from Harry Potter, which is cool.
Nice guy, uses powerpoints a lot which is good rather than deciphering what a teacher is writing on the board. Expects you to read on your own, assigns chapters in the book every week. I maybe read one chapter in the book and finished with a 'B'. Not hard, not easy either. Also, does anyone else notice that he looks like Hagrid from Harry Potter??
STaeck was my first class at CoD and a great teacher. Very clear and precise lecturing. very mellow kind of guy who helps you understand Anthropology. YOu won't regret taking his class. Do a little bit of reading and you'll get a decent grade. Promise
Staeck is a great prof. Makes class interesting, great sense of humor, laid back, and a great teacher. no busy work plus he has a doctorate in anthropology. highly recommended.
He's an awesome teacher cuz he puts notes online, doesn't always require attendance, gives you extra credit, and believes that whoever gets at least an 85% on their overall grade gets an A for the class. He barely has expectations...easy A!!! As long as you get 85% in his class...you will get an A.
Awesome teacher, hagrid-cover or younger santa claus. good sense of humor, makes easy a class that shouldn't be easy at all. BUT, the class is not THAT easy, requires some study and application, lots of names, bones and stuff. Recommended for all ages!
He's a good teacher
This class is VERY hard. But...it was supposed to be. Introduction to Physical Anthropology should not be easy. Dr. Staeck presents this heavy and challenging material in a very interesting and enthusiastic way. There are opportunities for extra credit, and he is always available to answer questions or give further explanations. Awesome teacher!
This class is really, really difficult! I had to work hard to get an A! If you're not looking for a challenge, don't take this class. However, Dr. Staeck teaches really well and is very clear. He also gives notes in class that are very helpful. He's an awesome professor, but his tests are HARD!
Dr. Staeck was the best teacher I had at COD, without a doubt. Not an easy A, but you will want to learn - material is interesting, he is very laid back, and truly dedicated to what he does. In the past I would have always went for the easy A teacher, but after having Dr. Staeck, I'd take him again 10 times for what I gained from the course.
Dr.Staek is pretty good...he explains things well...if you read the chapter and do the quizes on Black Board..you should get no lower then a B...put in the extra effot you'll get an A
Professor Staeck teaches an extremely fair and interesting course. If you are genuinely interested in your education, or are interested in working in the social sciences, take him! His teachings are unbiased and professional. Listen to instructions (sit near the quiet kids,) and you will be set. He always answers emails. EXCELLENT!
Mr. Staeck was the man. All you have to do is read the chapters and take the quizes. Everything was online. All the tests are composed of the quizes JUST READ. I didnt even attend class all that much and still got A
HONORS SECTION. This class was awful. I don't recommend that anyone take it. I dropped it because I wasn't learning anything. Prof. is an intelligent person but teaching just isn't his thing. That, or, I'm just not honor's material. I'm a science major with a 3.5 GPA and a full ride to Ben. U. next semester. Hope this review is helpful.
This teacher is great he puts all the slides online and gave a ton of extra credit
I feel like Staek is underrated. He is a pretty funny guy and is good-natured as hell. I must admit I skipped class a lot but didn't have a difficult time keeping up with the class as long as I followed along with the syllabus and did the online assignments. Final exam was a breeze, included only questions from previous tests. Good prof, nice guy.
He's an awesome professor.
One of the best and funniest teachers. and class is fun and not very hard.
His is a really nice man and if I could retake him then I wouldn't choose a class in a lecture room. If you are struggling then he is glad to help out if you put in the effort. No hw, just quizzes online and 3 tests. READ THE BOOK and take notes. Not too bad
Funny guy who always gives interesting lectures. His online quizes are difficult because they are not always fully based of the reading but lectures. Other than that he is a quality teacher. Tests are easy
Pros: He's a nice guy, and he's very much into his instructing. You'll walk away with quite a bit of insight. Cons: Allot of little summaries quizzes.
He is very interesting professor just take the quizzes on line every weak even if you haven't studied for them because the exams are 95% the same questions. If you put just a little bit of effort in this class you should get an easy A
Great teacher! Take him! oh yeah and read your book.
He is a really cool teacher, funny and you watch movies sometimes it can get boring but overall a good class i recommend this class and teacher
Like everyone has said, including himself. You will read your book. First time I've ever gone cover to cover in a text book. I liked his class, I did better than expected. One weekly quiz, sometimes two, all online. 3 exams, one final. There are lots of chances for extra credit, just show up for class. And three extra chances. Wonderful class.
Great Teacher. Attendance is important. Also the online quizzes he gives are important because half of them are on the exam and then final. Can get boring but overall a great class.
Great professor class is not hard if you do the reading and learn vocab. Quizzes every week and TONS! of extra credit. He's also very enthusiastic. I highly recommend professor staeck.
He's a really nice teacher, always answers email. He gives quizzes every week, and you have to read the book for them, but the tests are based off the quizzes. Easy professor and a great class to take.
Great man, hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. Very understanding and nonjudgmental. Get him if you are taking Anthro!!
Professor Staeck is awesome. He is so passionate about what he teaches and he wants to instill the same passion in his students. Looks intimidating but the nicest guy, and funny too! Who new! Take Staeck!
Enthusiastic about the subject matter, and very willing to help students. If you go to class and read the book, you'll do fine.
difficult class, grade based on tests. if you are not good with dates do not take this class. no notes just random words on board that you have to figure out what they are.
He's so passionate about anthro and has great life experiences to share. You need to read the book & come to class, but the material is interesting and easy to learn. Tests are easy and the final is based on old test questions. If you pay attention, you can't fail his course. He's an amazing guy!
Mr. Staeck was an awesome professor. He made easy to understand powerpoints and explained everything very well and was funny. This was the only class in my first year of college that I actually WANTED to go to!
Great professor with a lot of enthusiasm that is brought to the lectures. Combined with all the examples he can bring to class and what is learned from the book, it is a great experience.
He is a very nice professor. Lectures get boring, so if you don't pay attention in class you must read the entire chapter before you take each chapter quiz due each week. tests are based on blackboard quizzes and are pretty easy if you study the quiz questions. Attendance taken by iclicker each class.
I loved him! He made this class very interesting and easy to follow. Read the chapters and more importantly take pictures of all the iclicker quizzes since the test are 99% combination of them.
Nice teacher. Be warned: this class covers a LOT! But if you're interested in the subject, I would definitely recommend it. Make sure to read! It's very important. The tests are difficult and a lot of them are based off the reading. Staeck is nice and funny. He is really passionate about the subject, and is a great teacher. It's just a lot of info.
Easyyyy. Read a chapter take an online quiz that's 20min long. Only 4 discussions which are just questions and you reply to some classmates. That's it. Take him and he writes back very fast. You do need the book, but I would rent a used one. Chapters are long though. No tests, no papers and no projects. Just many quizzes...
This class is SO EASY! Literally just take notes on all of the vocabulary & you'll be fine. He goes over everything you need to know through the power points during class. The test questions test come straight from the clicker quiz questions - ridiculously simple. He knows a lot & is interesting so take this class to learn a lot & to get an easy A
The easiest class ever. BEST TIP: TAKE PICTURES OF ICLICKER QUIZZES and just memorize those questions. THose are the only questions on his tests. It is impossible to not get an A. I also learned a lot from his lectures, so even though they are power points, he keeps it interesting. Take him!BTW, he also gives ALOT of extra credit, hence my A+!
The information is interesting and you can tell he knows what he's talking about. He is very good at taking the material and making the connection to every day life. I loved this class. If you do the quizzes, you have all the answers for the test. The final and midterm are literally the same exact questions. So easy.
This was the first class I took at COD after being forced to in a rough time in my life. It was ridiculously easy. I barely checked blackboard. I regret the B I received in this class so heavily; however, I'm just glad that period is behind me. I would definitely recommend this class. Easy A.
He's a little too laid back for my tastes, if you're a student who can survive not going to class and just reading the texts, he'd be a good choice. Cancels class often, which was frustrating because his lectures were actually very informative.
He's straightforward. Exactly what you need for an online class. 4 discussion boards an a quiz after you read each chapter.
He made lectures very relatable and he's really funny! As long as you read the freaking book, you'll be good. He goes over most on powerpoints, but you need to read! His class his very easy, but you attendance is really important. You'll miss alot if you miss one day. Easy tests, great teacher!
Dr. Staeck is such a smart man and he's really passionate about anthropology. If you don't understand something he will make it crystal clear. Had iclicker quizzes once a week let's you use notes. Take pictures of the iclicker quizzes bc that's what the tests are exactly word for word and same Order. do not miss lectures. Huge attendance points.
Took his online class so didn't communicate w him much but the course was pretty easy. The quizzes have questions straight from the book so if you read the chapter, you'll be fine. Bonus: A LOT of extra credit :D 4 discussion board posts worth 20 pts each, not sure what exactly he expects but I got 17 or 18 points wo saying why I got points off
Mr. Staeck was really straight forward. He provides you with everything you need to pass the class (powerpoint, schedule, informative lectures). Recommend showing up to class so you don't lose points (Point based system). He does his best to clarify any questions students have. Read textbook! It will make quizzes/tests so much easier. Great class!
I would highly recommend taking John as a teacher, he is incredibly helpful and really cares about his students. He goes out of his way to make sure that you're doing well and understanding the material. He knows that most of his students are just taking the class for gen ed requirements, so he makes the material as interesting as possible.
Online quizzes are easy. and work as great study guides. I would screen shot them and use them to study for the tests. Just don't turn anything in late and you'll be fine. To top it off John's lectures are pretty interesting and I found him to be pretty funny and easy going.
Professor Staeck is really funny. I always looked forward to this class. Key thing is to show up to class, take notes, take pictures of the iClicker quizzes, and you'll definitely pass the class. The quizzes are the same as the test. Easy A if you show up to class!!
Professor Steck is obviously a guy who knows his stuff when it comes to anthropology. His passion for the subject was obvious every class, and he made each lesson informative and entertaining. He also uses very comprehensive powerpoint presentations. If you take good notes in class, you'll barely need to open your textbook to get a good grade.
Basic online course, do the assignments and you will be fine. I never read the chapters and got a B. I would rent the text book, it will help on quizzes and discussion boards. 17 chapters, one quiz per chapter (30 min timed, one attempt), 5 total discussion boards with prompts that require about a half page of text. Not a bad/hard class.
Professor Staeck is a very smart man. You can learn a lot about anthropology by taking his class. He explains concepts with real-life comparisons, and is passionate about what he teaches. If you read the book and put forth the work you will do great. Take Staeck!
Got by with an A even though I did not read any chapters all the way through. 4 discussion posts that you do need to know terms for, aka why you should still get the book. Most answers for the quizzes you can find on quizlet.
It is necessary to read the book in order to understand everything and to do well on the tests. Since this was a hybrid class, you had to watch online videos as well. We watched a lot of documentaries in class. The tests have some extra credit points as well.
His lectures are powerpoints which are enthusiastic and are filled with information. He uses iclicker for quizzes and the points of the quizzes aren't added till the day of the final. Tests are mainly from lectures and quizzes(word for word) with a few questions ONLY from the book. Will definitely work with you to help you succeed.
Really cool guy. Reading the book helps, but its possible to get a good grade without it. All of the quizzes are open note and the tests aren't too difficult. He's very straightforward about what will be on the tests. No homework or essays. Overall, it was a very interesting class
Read the book. Pay attention to the lectures and bonus material. Everything is there in the resources to not just pass, but do well on the quizzes/tests. Only complainant is the videos to review were super dull and hard to follow.
Hes got a weird sense of humor and a lot of opinions but hes respectful, super knowledgeable and will work with you if you need help. Read, show up to class and listen and youll get an A, easiest 107% Ive ever gotten
The was 14 chapter quizzes (30 min timed), 1 syllabus quiz, and 2 movie reviews (1h timed). He has everything laid out for you and you have to watch his videos and lectures for the quizzes. Most quiz answers are on quizlet and you can earn about 30 pts e.c throughout the course. All quizzes are worth 15 pts with 1-4 e.c questions on each quiz.
I thought his class was good. just read and do the quizes and you will be fine!
just make sure to keep up with the quizzes and youll pass with an A.
His lectures were very engaging, but I was not a fan of the grading setup for the course. I did not take this online. My class was graded on 4 tests. His tests are extremely difficult. He tells you to read and study and I did all of that, but the exam questions make it hard for you to pick the right answer choice. 1 small EC opportunity.
I found him to be really boring. Each class is a lecture from powerpoint. I really enjoyed anthro in high school so I was excited to take this class & was disappointed. He expects you to read the book. I didn't read any of it & still got an A. Tests basically make up your entire grade. If you're looking for an interesting teacher, find someone else
I took the online course was highly disappointed. I really wanted to learn about anthropology but the textbook he chose for the class was very dull and all the videos he assigned to watch were ancient. I feel like I didn't learn anything from this class. He responds quickly to emails but is not interactive at all you're basically teaching yourself.
Really enjoyed this class, the professor has a good head on his shoulders and has a great sense of humor. He tells you what to expect on the first day of class. Has occasional pop quizes (open notes), they usually consists of 5-7 questions. Class is mostly powerpoints. Uses an iclicker. If you read the chapters you will do well on tests.
You take 4 exams and they make up most of your grade. Occasional homework, but it's mainly websites, reading, and videos. Open note and Book I Clicker tests ranging from 4-7 questions. Interesting professor and is able to answer anything related to anthropology.
I took this class online and it was one of the best online class I've taken. There are quizes that are due every few weeks or so so the schedule for the class is pretty flexible. There are 14 quizes, most of them contain extra credit questions which help a lot, and there are 2 video assessments at the end of the semester.
Online course is basically quizzes (that are all on quizlet) and 4 discussion boards. Textbook is mandatory but only used it during the discussions. The due dates on the quizzes and very reasonable and will have plenty of time to finish them before theyre due. Responds to emails quickly but not that interactive during course.
Probably the most honest with students about the real world and how it relates to the material of any professor. He's very funny and says some iconic things. The only truly annoying part is the long videos you have to watch outside of class for only 2 or 3 questions about them on the tests. But if you pay attention & read the book, you'll be fine!
Took his online class over the summer, one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The whole course is pretty much based on quizzes and tests but they're straight out of the textbook. For some reason though, he is very paranoid and thinks everyone is cheating, that was pretty stressful especially being in an online class. but its an easy A!
Paced great. Easy to manage with own schedule which is very nice for an online class. The entire class grade was based off quizzes so as long as you studied a little you should be just fine. Some required more studying than others but honestly you could get an A if you studied a minimal amount because there is a little extra credit to help.
Professor Staeck is the gem of COD. He's funny, patient, and was so kind about periodically checking in via email throughout the semester. There is a decent amount of reading, but considering he wrote the online book you have to read for the course, it's really interesting. Take notes, study, and remember your quiz due dates, and you'll be golden
This was a 12 week online course. All the quizzes are easy (found on quizlet), midterm (50 points- contains 1 short answer), and final (50 points). There is a discussion board for 16 week class but no discussion board for 12 week class. Total points for this class is 355. He also gives plenty of extra credit on his quiz. 2 video assignment. Easy A.
This guy knows what he is doing and loves his job. He has a lot of knowledge and he will challenge and encourage you to bring out the best! Prepare yourself for taking notes and remembering terminologies!
This was an online class. Just read the assigned chapters each week and take the quizzes, you'll pass. Email him with any questions, he replies fast. Good luck.
Professor Staek is a great professor to have and is a clear grader. I took his virtual class over fall of 2020. Quizes were out of textbook that he wrote and were a little challenging, but you'll pass if you read the chapter and take good notes.
His class is pretty basic, he does not try to trick you in any way. The grade is based on 13 quizzes, 3 exams, and the final. All dates for turning in assignments are final. It is all doable, and you can get a good grade as long as you put in the work. I would suggest taking him!
This class was initially just a filler but it was definitely my favorite. He makes class and learning about anthropology enjoyable and his lectures stick with you. Without a doubt I would take another one of his classes. The online textbook is recommended to be read, but honestly you can easily pass the class with just notes from his lectures.
Tests are often confusing and worded badly. Questions honestly sound the same, he uses phrases that weren't taught. I liked lectures in class, but all of them are old videos from the 90s or slide shows... it is boring. Tests make up so much of your grade and they are so challenging. If you know nothing about Archaeology... do NOT take this class!
Got a bad grade because I missed an exam that was only ever mentioned on the class schedule. He does not send emails or post announcements so pay attention to your work and you will get it done easy.
This class was basically just reading the textbook, doing the homework assignments that went with what you read and that was it, plus the 3 tests and mid-term and final. Very little homework and very short quizzes. This is probably the easiest class you'll ever take, ended up with a B bc I turned a test in late by accident.
Mr. Staeck was a bit unhinged, often yelling at the class and telling us to drop out when no one raised their hand to answer a question about the video or article we were suggested to read/watch. However, I found the class very interesting and there was very little homework.
I never interacted with him because it was an online class so this is purely based on the material. it's interesting and worth taking just to get more insight on our society's history and culture. its a lot of reading and if you get behind on chapters your going to spend days and days trying to catch up so keep up on the assigned chapters.
Professor Staeck makes the material engaging, with occasional humor. The class workload is manageable, and Unstuckstudy was a useful study tool alongside the textbook readings.
Never met the professor since it was an online class, but he responded to emails right away. Super easy class! Weekly assignments: read the chapter, watch a few videos, review the powerpoint and weekly quiz. A total of 13 weekly quizzes, 3 Unit exams, 1 final exam. Use quizzes/unit exams to study for the final. Easy A!
Amazing professor recommended to my friend easy class not that hard learn about human and their culture also give you credit for electives
The online course was handed out in full; you were responsible for completing homework on time or the grade will be zero. He does not keep up the gradebook, syllabus was disorganized, tried reaching out for an assignment that I missed, and he gave no guidance. The course was interesting, professor was sub par, good luck!
Completely online class, only grades on 17 quizzes, 2 tests, and 3 discussions. He grades kinda hard on discussions but quizzes and tests are easy. if you fall behind it may be difficult to catch up but the class is an easy A. Doesn't really communicate with students, but grading is pretty much completely automated.
