Dr. Starbuck is a great professor! His expectations are clear and reasonable. You have to do the work of course, which includes reading and attending lectures, but he is very approachable and has a wonderful personality. I would definitely take more courses from him in the future.

The class is pretty simple, you have to do the reading (chapters are around 20 pages, so not to bad), read his PowerPoint lecture, and take a short 10 minute quiz. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Dr. Starbuck gives you clear expectations and helps you succeed in the course. In the first week he left the assignments open longer than the due date so that students who were just starting the course could catch up. He e-mails students to remind them when assignments are due and quickly answers e-mails. Take him from human species, he's great!

Great teacher! Very kind, reasonable, and helpful! Great with answering questions. This class was basically an evolution class, in which I do not support, but he present it as the theory that it is. He did not push his ideas at the students. He allows them to form their own opinion. I enjoyed a topic I never thought I would.

Easy A if you ask me we had 9 discussion posts, 10 quizzes, and 3 exams. The third exam was the final exam. It was an anthropology class so of course it was easy the study of the human evolution from ape to man. Most of this was pretty common sense and I honestly didn't learn much which was the best part. I won't lie some of it was interesting too.

I took Human Species online with Dr. Starbuck, so I've never met him in person, but he seems super friendly from our online interaction. Expectations were very reasonable for class, as long as you keep up with your work, do the reading, and review his very detailed power points you can totally get an A. Allowed one dropped quiz + discussion! Yay!

Professor Starbuck is amazing, bottom line. You can tell he truly cares about his students and their performance in his class. We were struck with a hurricane during this semester and he was the most lenient teacher I had (I took 5 classes this semester) as far as giving us time to catch up with work and making sure everyone is safe.

Great prof who sends emails each week. The easiness of each lecture was pretty consistent in each module, with Powerpoints, videos and background material. Overall, an interesting class about the origin of humans with quizzes/tests that you can definitely pass. Many others used the book for the online class, however I did not and received an A.

Great teacher. As long as you read the chapters, watch the videos, and review the Powerpoint presentations, you'll do well. The schedule is very cut and dry, the information is clear and concise, and the grading is 100% fair.

Class was completely online. I didn't try very hard in the class, got a B-. I could have had a better grade with more effort. Class was set up well, prof was reasonable. This class was far better than some of the other Anth classes I have taken. Take all classes you can with this prof.

I really enjoyed his class and course. Class was online so it was pretty easy to follow, a week to due all assignments and as long as you read and do the lecture you will pass. Loved how the test and quizzes were structured. If I didn't graduate would take him again.

Majority of the content for the quizzes and discussions are on the powerpoints, which is a major plus, you don't really need to buy the textbook to pass. There's interesting videos (some quizzes asked questions about it). You have a quiz and discussion post due almost every week but easy to do in a few hours. Easy and interesting class!

10/10 I would recommend this class and professor to anyone. As a mixed-mode class, all of the answers for the online quizzes and tests came directly from the powerpoints, which were allowed to be used during testing. You have to go to the lectures and labs, but they were very interesting. Plus, he breaks up the material with videos of cute monkeys!

Very entertaining PowerPoint lectures. Was a mixed media course, so half online half in class. Counted attendance. Tests and quizzes from PowerPoints. Lab was cool because we got to see real bones and identify them. I would highly suggest.

Took this course completely online as a requirement for my degree. Professor is clear and easy to understand from the start. Each week is pretty standard and follows the same pattern. Reading from the book, Power point Lecture, Videos Assignments: Discussions and Quizzes, 3 exams. Read the material and you'll pass!

I took Professor Starbuck for Primatology as a mixed mode class. One day one he was very clear with his expectations of lecture and lab. Attendance was mandatory because lecture met F2F 7 times and lab 5 times. Test and quizzes are online and open note, book, and powerpoint. Labs are interesting and if you try you'll pass. This was a great class!

Professor Starbuck was great! I took the class online but whenever I encountered any issues or had any questions he was always very helpful. It is clear that he cares a lot about his students and their grades. The class online is a lot of work due to the amount of reading and lengthy review presentations, but overall he was a really good professor!

I took Prof. Starbuck for Spring of 2017 online. His syllabus is very clear. Discussion and quiz due every Friday before midnight. MAKE SURE you do your modules ASAP because they can be long. He has lots of videos and Power-Points for each quiz/discussion that will help you pass. Very straight forward kind of work. Great class!

This course was a mixed mode course which worked well with my schedule this semester. Dr. Starbuck makes classes interesting and it is easy to pay attention. You have to know what is going on for exams but everything is in the powerpoints he provides. It's not hard to get an A in this class you just have to try.

From the beginning of the online course, the directions were clear. A lot of the needed quiz materials came from the textbook and provided powerpoints.

I absolutely loved this course! The mix mode was not as difficult as I originally imagined. Professor Starbuck is helpful, respectful and caring. This class was super easy and very interesting. Easy A if you read the lectures and watch the assigned videos. I got the textbook and didn't open it once, as long as you read what is in the modules you will pass. I took John's ANT2511 course online and it was very interesting. He gives a variety of material to help understand the topics discussed. He also gives extra credit assignments at the end of the semester and makes sure to congratulate students for exceptional performance. The course is straightforward and the workload is definitely manageable.

If you're going to be taking ANT2511 then I definitely recommend this guy. Overall, the course itself is pretty easy. There is a quiz and a short discussion entry every week or so but if you read the book you'll pass. Throughout the course he would also congratulate the class and send out reminders of tests and quizzes.

Professor Starbuck ensures that his students will succeed in his class by providing clear expectations through the syllabus, super informative PowerPoint presentations (you could probably get a passing grade w/o reading the text, but I would not recommend that), & email reminders to students as to what they should be working on at any given time.

Excellent course. Very clear when it comes to subject matter and grading. No "surprise" quizzes or assignments, but rather you know exactly what you're going to do that week and how you have to prepare for it. He has a great level of open communication with you (I believe he has TA's who help), and doesn't implement long and boring lectures.

Definitely, take his class. I took it online and it was super easy and he has it set up so you can work at your own pace. I was able to finish the course 2 months before it was due to finish. Professor Starbuck definitely cares about your grade and wants you to pass. He will work with you and offers extra credit. I highly recommend his class.

Professor Starbuck was very clear with his instructions, easy going, and comfortable to talk to. His lectures, labs, and tests were all straightforward. Not an overwhelming or confusing course, by any means. As long as you take good notes and pay attention, it's an easy A.

Last semester I took Prof. Starbuck online the schedule was very flexible, with one quiz and one discussion due a week. He allows you to work ahead so you could finish the course in half the time if you are inclined. TA's grade the discussion one paragraph no mandatory citations or replies wish I could take him for more classes.

Very easy class that requires about 30 minutes a week to complete both the weekly discussion post and quiz. Prof Starbuck sends out a reminder every week reminding you of what needs to be completed and reaches out to students with feedback on their discussion posts and exceptional grades on tests. Overall an easy A class with moderate effort.

It is very easy to maintain a good grade in this course. The material is straight forward and the labs are so interesting! I'm sure you could cruise through this course, but the material is extremely interesting. This is one of those courses that you actually look forward to attending.

This was a very enjoyable class for me because I like to work at my own pace. In this course all of the material is available from the first day. Most weeks I had a discussion board post and a quiz due. Every couple of weeks their is an exam that goes over the course material covered in the prior weeks. Pay attention to the power points and read.

Mixed Mode Primatology course with a lab component. Labs are simple and done in groups. Textbook more supplementary than required, as quiz info is in PowerPoint lectures. The PowerPoint lectures are discussed in class and attendance is graded from a sign in sheet passed around each class. Interesting topic and online component is well executed.

Took this class online spring 2017 and I do not regret it. This professor is great at giving feedback with his discussion assignments. It's pretty much write a post and provide feedback to others. Pretty easy. His modules are open so you can work ahead. I finished the class in 2 months. Definitely take this class!!!

Best summer class I've ever taken, everything is open on day one! I finished this class a month early, he has assignments due every two days but it was definitely easy assignments. There are 10 quizzes, the quizzes are 10 questions and you have 15 mins, 2 attempts. There's only 5 discussion posts, only 3-4 sentences each. Buying the book helped.

Getting an A in the class is possible as long as you put in the work for it. His class was not too difficult but it wasn't easy either. You will be doing a lot of reading. All the quizzes and tests are based off all the material he gives you to read or watch, not only just the book. He definitely cares about his students and gives good feedback.

This was a great course to take! Starbuck was very informative and provided more than enough materials to learn and inspire us to research ourselves. His online lectures were so informative I didn't need to use the textbook. There was usually a documentary or a few videos to watch every week but this class is not hard at all. I would take again!

Best professor Starbuck I've had at UCF. Super helpful, knowledgeable, and really relaxed when it comes to the course. Clear course requirements, all the information you need comes from the powerpoints and lecture. Attendance is where the vast majority of your grade comes from, but super doable with the mixed media course, which is the best thing!

I took this class online being active duty military and earned a A-. This is class with this professor is a must. Very clear with instructions, and you can finish the class in maybe 2 weeks depending on how you apply yourself.

I was in the 100% online class. The modules are really easy to read and click through. If you do the readings in modules and pay attention to vocab in textbook you will get an A. I was able to complete the class easily in the first two weeks due to all assignments being open from the beginning.

Starbuck is so great! He has all of his assignments already prepared and unlocked so you have the option to work at your own pace. While the material is not too difficult just be aware that he uses the +/- system. Took ANT2511 SUMMER ONLINE course& I dont regret it. The class was fast paced, but very easy. The quizzes were straight out of the book, so as long as you read and take notes, then you'll pass. He puts all the assignments out at once so you can finish the class in a week if you want. Great teacher too. EASY A to boost your GPA- take him if you can!

The class was put together easy and it was clear what was expected. I took Human Species in the summer online and received an A. The material is easy to understand and if you come across something confusing 9/10 he has addressed it in his lecture notes. Would recommend to fulfill science needs or GPA builder.

This is a great online summer course to take. The professor breaks down all your assignments (10 quizzes, 5 discussion posts, and 3 exams) in a day to day calendar for you. Great GEP option. I took it in Summer A (6 weeks). Dr. Starbuck truly cares about his students and wants them to pass. The course is straight forward and simple, and I highly recommend you take it during the summer session. The professor set up the course so that you get to work ahead of time, and all quizzes/exams are open book. There is absolutely no reason why you should make anything less than an A. P.S. The book is mandatory.

Exams were open book and open note as well as non cumulative and discussion posts only needed to be 3-4 sentences and you had a choice of prompts. The course was very straightforward and easy to get an A in as long as you keep track of due dates. Make sure to check module content 48hrs before its due because some videos are up to 50 min long.

Though I am not a huge fan of science courses, Professor Starbuck made Anthropology 2511 exciting and easy to understand. From thought-provoking videos to lengthy lecture power points to the colorful textbook, all the information was interesting and fun to read/watch. I highly recommend taking this course to fulfill a GenEd requirement.

I took Professor Starbuck for Summer B 2017 as a mixed mode class. If I'm being completely honest, this class was really easy for 3 credit hours. There were 3 exams and 10 total quizzes, also he did give extra credit opportunities if your grade isn't where you want it to be. Trust me, this professor and class is a really good GPA booster.

Dr. Starbuck is super awesome. You can take this course at your own pace and it was my easiest class of summer B. Make sure you read, buy a used textbook, and remember that this class is mixed mode. There are gonna be a few lectures in person where attendance is for a grade, so go. Otherwise, do your work on time and you're guaranteed an A.

This was an extremely easy online class. There are a few tests and quizzes and a few discussion posts that are straight out of the book. Starbuck is a very clear and easy grader and the class is very straight forward.

One of the best professors I've had at UCF. His tests and discussion posts were really straightforward and he gave good feedback on the assignments so you knew what you needed to improve on for next time. Each week there are about an hours worth of videos to watch on top of the reading, but they are interesting enough. they do get tested on so watch them. Quizzes were pretty easy if you read and watch videos, exams had 95% of the material from quizzes.

Not a hard class, just sit down and read through the powerpoints each section and watch the videos. There's a quiz and discussion post on each section and a test every few chapters. The discussion posts aren't too hard. You can work ahead which i'd advise doing if you can so you can wrap up earlier.

Mr. Starbuck is the best! I did not buy the book for this class. Wasn't sure how that would work out, but was pleasantly surprised when much of the book content was in his Powerpoint notes! These notes are incredible. So informative, in an easy to understand outline with colorful frames and notes for test! The videos are great and a big help too.(:

Amazing professor! I'd definitely take him again if I could. Aside from weekly discussion posts (he doesn't make you respond to other peers) paired with a 10 question quiz, there's three 50 question exams. Easy peasy. He's very caring and understanding too!

I took the class online, so attendance wasn't an issue. There were weekly tests to go along with weekly lessons, and if you actually did the lesson the test was a breeze. Never took me longer than 10 minutes. Didn't talk to the prof too much personally but he made exceptions where it was necessary i.e. extensions during a hurricane.

Professor Starbuck is successful in making ANT2511 fascinating and enjoyable. Awesome combination of textbook, slideshows and online videos. The online class work load was average, weekly forum posts and quizzes, with three total exams. Prof S is understanding when it comes to course issues, just give him a heads up if you need more time.

The class was pretty typical, but it was very interesting. He included youtube videos for what we were learning that week. The powerpoint slides were well put together. Even with being a full time worker, this class was very manageable. I'd definitely recommend taking his classes. He really does care about his student's success.

The class material was very interesting. The lectures and videos make going over the material very easy. Just make sure you read the textbook and the lectures, it makes the discussion posts much easier to answer. The videos provided in each module were fun and educational and made the information easier to understand.

Dr. Starbuck is a great and lenient professor. Textbook is not needed at all for class, all info needed for homework and tests can be found online or in Webcourses modules. He lets you turn in discussions late and is very caring. Extremely easy class and very nice professor!

Although the class was online, I felt like the professor really cared about my participation in the class. Although I really did not use the textbook, the exams and quizzes were open note/textbook. If you did well on the exams, Professor Starbuck would send out a congratulatory message and say good job and although I never met him, it meant a lot.

Professor Starbuck's class was awesome. I was really nervous about taking an anthropology class, as it is not my major, but I was pleasantly surprised how manageable this class was. If you watch all of the videos and keep up with your readings, you will do really well in this class. Exam questions come from the quizzes, so they aren't too hard.

This class was an easy A. You do have to participate in weekly postings and take the quizzes. The material was interesting though, and therefore the discussions were easy to complete. Quizzes are short and only 3 exams during the semester. I liked having the book, since the discussion questions came from straight from it along with the answers.

Wonderful professor who really cares about his students. He worked with us throughout the semester and understands the challenges for students. The assignmemts are straightforward and he doesn't have unnecessary, fluff work. The graded assignments consisted of a discussion and quiz per module and then exams. You definitely need to get the textbook.

I purchased the book, personally never used it, but it would be helpful to actually read if you're interested in the material, he is clear, gives discussions and and a quiz weekly, has 3 exams and a final. Gives good feedback if you do well and is understanding with deadlines( Hurricane Irma). I enjoyed the class and would take him again .

Awesome professor. The person two comments below me seems to have forgotten that the teaching assistant graded online discussions. I am quite religious myself and think Dr. Starbuck did a great job discussing scientific results without being offensive to cultural/religious values. My guess is that student made no effort to talk to the professor.

Such a great and caring professor. This class made me change my minor to biological anthropology - a topic I had no interest in before Dr. Starbuck's class.

I liked that the course was super organized and straight to the point. We knew how many quizzes, exams and discussions we had to do and we just followed the syllabus to get them done. The professor was also great in communicating and getting back to us if there were any questions asked.

I loved that the instructor kept things science-based and, in some cases, was not afraid to show us videos pointing out the flawed logic of religion. I really enjoyed all of the documentaries and videos, and the assignments were simple and straight-forward. I also loved the textbook! It was written so clearly and it was easy to follow. Good pace.

I felt like the coursework got rid of fluff and made sure to focus on the necessities, which allowed me to focus on learning the material properly. Time was used efficiently and the course didn't seem rushed. I really appreciated the professor's care for the students and felt comfortable enough to contact him with any issues or concerns.

This is a great graduate course for students who lack a statistical background. The course is well-organized. Content is built upon progressively throughout the semester. Dr. Starbuck will eagerly help each students as needed. Statistics is not the most interesting topic, but he injects humor and breaks down methods to enhance understanding.

This class was a really fun introduction to Anthro! Starbuck was very helpful and even though this class was online, he would constantly reach out and interact with the class.

The Human Species online course was very interesting and Professor Starbucks has really great PowerPoint lectures to go through. All of the quizzes and exams are open book. Youll need to stay on top of your quizzes, but its not hard, just stay motivated. Id take courses with this professor again in a heartbeat.

I took this class online to fill a science credit. So easy! Literally just read the chapter, watch the short videos, and take a quiz. You can also work ahead in the course so that was a plus. Probably the most stress free course Ive ever taken.

Took online, one of the easiest classes ever. Most quizzes can be found on quizlet but the material is actually interesting so reading & watching the videos is worth the time. Super easy grader, not a lot of work other then quizzes every week that are online & answers are easy to find. Take him! You won't regret it

I took this class online for Summer A (6 weeks) and it was very easy. You will have 2-3 quizzes each week . There are only 3 exams for this class and its open book. Quizzes are open book as well. The only bad thing I can say is its a lot of information to retained because each quiz you take is different chapter and each Exam cover 5 chapters.

Professor Starbuck is amazing! He is very passionate about what he teaches and he really wants everyone to succeed. For the 6 week class in the summer you have quizzes every 2 days, you get two attempts at the quizzes. Professor Starbuck is also very good at answering his emails and very proactive about anyone with accommodations.

Summer A. Straightforward class as there were only 10 quizzes and 3 exams. Finished the class in the first three weeks by simply doing a quiz a day. The book is useful, especially as the class was open book. That, along with the PowerPoint made the class very simple, but still an interesting subject to learn about.

Easy summer class, things have due dates but you can go as quickly as you want. Exams and quizzes are easy. Would recommend and take again!

Getting a good grade is pretty straightforward: read the chapter, read the powerpoints and pass the assessments. The teacher was lenient with his late policy and he was kind enough to give deadline reminders through webcourses.

Took the online course with a 6 week summer schedule. Typical reading amount, extremely well structured modules that you can move ahead if you want, great powerpoint lectures, excellent short videos to supplement the material. I would definitely sign up for his classes again.

Professor Starbuck was honestly a great professor. I took ANT 2511 online with him, and the work load was manageable. There are 3 exams with a quiz after each chapter. His powerpoints have pretty much everything you need for the quizzes, but just don't skip over the documentaries! Offers extra credit, but you may not even need it :)

John Starbuck is an amazing professor! He is very knowledgeable in what he does, and he uses his anthropology to really help people. Fun and easy course. The lectures have a lot of the answers on it and it is very interesting. I would definitely take a course with this professor again.

Really interesting material and organized in a clear way for an online class which is nice. Not for my major but still felt like I learned and I liked it! You get two tries on the quizzes and can easily get an A if you read through all the material/watch the assigned videos. The textbook and its definitions helped me for exams but you don't NEED it

Dr. Starbuck is great! As long as you do the readings, youll do just fine! I greatly appreciated the comic relief provided in his exams! (Multiple choice options such as Guns-n-Roses the best band ever, Harry Potter, etc.). I highly recommend him and would definitely take another class with him.

Took it summer A, switched in a week after it started but ended up finishing it in literally no time. Lots of quizzes and tests but 2 attempts at each and everything comes from the textbook so not bad at all. Very good with responding to emails, very considerate of his students. Overall, low stress class where you can still learn a lot!

Dr. Starbuck's lectures, videos, reading suggestions, and commentary were so enlightening and interesting that in spite of working part time and raising small children, I couldn't wait for the chance to get to my lecture. If you are looking for an updated, researched focused and inspiring class , you have found it!!

This was a very easy online class. The only grades though are 10 quizzes and 3 exams. It is all based on information from the textbook, and sometimes the videos from the module prior to the quiz. Also it was set up so you can do it at your own pace so if you wanted to, you can really cram and complete it in a week or do it before the deadline.

took this class for SummerA online and it was a GPA booster. As a science foundation GEP, i would recommend taking this Mr. Starbuck's class online oppose to any other science foundation. Anthropology is a interesting course for one, and Starbuck does not infiltrate too much work, and makes it easy. Quizzes and tests were easy. BEST ONLINE TEACHER!

This class was one of the best online classes ive taken at UCF. All the answers are online if you look them up and he lets you take the tests twice! Also he is easily accessible and approachable. You wont regret taking this!!

Starbuck's "The Human Species" class is a relatively easy alternative to other science classes, such as the infamous Bio courses. Got a good grade easily and learned everything I ever needed to know about monkeys along the way. Some of the religion vs. science stuff got a bit heated for my taste though, so be prepared for that.

LOVED the open format of the class. It allowed me to work ahead when I could which worked out really well with my schedule. Quizzes were open for the duration as well. Open note (big plus). Learned a lot and appreciated the course's flexibility.

I really enjoyed this class and I am not an anthro major. There's a lot of reading, but you will learn so much. Class is interesting and the professor is caring. Tests and quizzes almost exclusively come from PowerPoints. I used the book once to look up something not on the PP. Manageable workload consisting of just exams and quizzes.

As a psychology major I was a little nervous to take this class, but the material he includes is actually super interesting and I found myself really caring about the content! Lots of videos to watch, definitely get the textbook. Lots of quizzes/tests but theyre very straight forward and not too difficult. I got an A+ and antro isn't even my major!

I took his class (Human Species) online over Summer A. The class was fairly easy. He posts all the material and quizzes and tests so if you really want to you can finish the whole course in a weekend. There is a LOT to read, his powerpoints have about 80+ slides, but he uploads videos (2hr long) that are very helpful.

Best professor in the department by far. He also does a lot of interesting research that affects the real world. This was my 5th class in the Anthro department and he is far superior to the other instructors. I am going to try to do research in his lab next semester.

Took the graduate quantitative class with him a few semesters ago. He has been extremely helpful by answering questions about analyses and helping me edit my thesis. I probably wouldn't have been able to complete it without his help. Probably the smartest person in the department.

The most down-to-Earth professor I have interacted with at UCF. He is extremely smart, but can break things down and explain them to students in a simple way to help them understand. Honestly, if it was up to me, he would be in charge of the university and most certainly the department. The others could learn a lot from him.
