He's a really funny guy and a great teacher. He cracks me up the way he drinks his water out of this wine glass everyday. The class was REALLY interesting and one of the few that I didn't mind showing up to everyday.
He was very hard. He tried to crack jokes that nobody understood. His material is very hard to understand and his test are hard to prepare for. His class was boring and teaching methods were not affective.
His class is really boring and is almost pointless to go. His test are really difficult, but he is very helpful if you ask questions outside of class.
Good with students, considerate, clear, and intelligent
Dr. Swinton is a good teacher. His tests are just like the homework. As long as you do the homework you will be fine. His jokes are funny if you are intelligent enough to understand them. How could you dislike a man who makes cookies for his class?

Swinton's class was challenging for me, but I don't like economics. His homework is just like his tests. He's a funny, nice guy who wants you to succeed. keep up with the material and you will be fine.
Swinton's test are just like his homework. You need to study. Easy B but can easily fall to a C. Studying the homework is the key to getting a B in this class. He doesn't help you to much either.
he is absolutely no help at all. if you ask a question he just makes you feel stupid for asking and just tells you the part of the question you already knew. if you are looking for an econ teacher, look elsewhere...don't take him at all costs!
Solid, funny professor. Homework and tests are similar, and he encourages students to work together on homework. He hates when you're late, and he won't take your homework if you come in late when its due. Final is optional. Pretty easy C, B's doable if you put in a little extra work, and A's are tough - the way it should be. I recommend him.
absolutely horrible. he picks on students in class, especially the ones that are late or confused. does not offer any help even when you set up appointments. just to make him even more annoying he tries to show off his smarts wayy too much in class. i dont think he wants his students to succeed. just awful in every way... dont take.
Swinton is a good teacher, but not for lower level econ classes. He teaches things as though the class already has lots of background info on what he is talking about, and rushes through everything. He seems like he would be like a great teacher for upper level econ classes.
His class wasn't so bad. He gives you in depth homework, but then makes the tests just like the homework but easier. It's not hard to get a good grade in the class, but I didn't really like him much. He has a sort of condescending air about him like he takes joy in the fact that he knows more than you.
He is a smart teaher..he knows what he is talking about. However, he does not explain the material in a way that is helpful to many students. most of the students in my class were struggeling. also, doesn't let you use calculators in his class..I would not reccomend taking him
Good teacher, Test are just like the homework. take your time on the Homework and you will do fine. He is an easy B or C.
Not a good teacher at all. His classes are so boring and I was always trying my hardest to keep my eyes open. He talks until the very last second of class. All he does is lecture and they are never what is on the tests. He gives homework out a week before the test, which is always so hard. The format of the tests are the same as the hw, but they ar
Very good teacher, but very hard. Almost impossible to get an A in the class, and a hard B to make. Very friendly, yet he isn't very helpful with describing things outside of class.
horrible!picks on you in class if you answer incorrectly, tests are awful, not interested in helping you out,the WORST teacher i have had since ive been here.i do NOT reccomend him
He is a funny guy, but his class lectures can get long and boring. Very difficult if you do not have a nack for econ. His tests are just like his homework, and the final is optional, however the class is not easy and dull...I reconmend not taking him.
He doesnt give good notes so you have to be a good listener. Also his homework is hard and he only gives it a week before the test - which is hard. You have to go to class, pay attention, and read for a B. He says right off the bat that no one will get an A. Take him for a challenge
He is the WORST person I have come in contact with since I have been here. I would avoid him at all costs!
Mr. Swinton is a hard teacher, but if you put in the work you will do ok, an A is very rare in his class, i pulled out a B somehow, i still have no clue, he is hard but very fair and he teaches you the concepts. Go to the tutoring center for help also he likes to use really big words to impress you, so bring a dictionary so you can understand him
Swinton is one of the harder ECON professors. Making a B is like making an A. He is a decent teacher, but the material is very dry. You must keep up with the assigned readings or you have little chance.
Would not recommend him. Theres 4 "quizzes" that are actually tests. He gives homework which is the study guide for the tests. They arent the best study guides though. His lectures can be interesting sometimes but I usually wanted to kill myself. Take a lot of notes and ask a lot of questions. His class is really hard
A man who has too much power and not enough to do with it. Treats his students like cattle and doesn't really care about whether you understand--he'd rather just hear himself talk.
i cannot stand this man. econ is required for my major or else i would drop. the first day of class he told us that Cs are good in his class. Cs dont keep hope. avoid him. he just likes to hear himself talk.
Swinton is overall a bad teacher; he is not helpful, his lectures are confusing, and his tests are unnecessarily hard. He treats the class like senior economics course when it's only an entry level non-business majors course. AVOID HIM IF POSSIBLE!!!!!! Unless if you want to work really hard to get C's and B's.
Got a high B. A lot of studying. HW is just like tests pretty much. I thought I was going to come out with a C or D but the final was rally easy and it replaces your lowest test grade. Class isn't mandatory but I recommend going. He will teach the full class period and there are never any days off. He is a good guy and will help you with anything
TERRIBLE HORRIBLE. avoid. avoid at all costs.
If you like to teach yourself this would be the professor to take. The lectures are long, boring and not helpful for preparing for the tests and homeworks. He flies through topics that are difficult to understand. He would be a good professor if you were an upper level Economics major but as a non Business major the class was very hard.
Unless you are an econ major or love econ, you're not going to enjoy this class. He gives ridiculous homework, has six page quizes, has the worst policies and doesn't seem to care about you as a student. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Pretty hard class to say the least. Go to the tudors and study a lot. It's a hard B and an impossible A.
He is the perfect example of how someone should not teach. You have to teach yourself to get a decent grade. I have no words for describing how bad and boring his class is. If you disagree with him in some point, you will see what special kind of personality he is(in a bad way). Avoid him!
He is terrible. Lectures are long and boring, teaches the whole time. Homework and quizzes aren't discussed in class. If you like to teach yourself, go for it. If you have a really good grasp on Econ I would recommend him because there isn't a lot of work.
Such a hard class. Impossible to get an A or even a B unless you're just really good at Economics. He's nice, but this class is just way more difficult than it should be.
I got an A in 1 class and a B in another, but I cannot stand this man. His classes are 20x more difficult than they need to be. He's disorganized, speaks in monotone, and makes awful "jokes". He starts class early, even on quiz days. He's very unwilling to help outside of class, and when he tries, you are reminded of how awful a professor he is.
I was 1 of only 5 people to get an A in his class. He's a pretty good teacher, and I honestly don't think his class is hard. He explained things well, and I completely understood everything by test-time. The homework is the exact same format as the quiz, and the subjects he focuses on are mostly the same. Just don't skip class & do take good notes.
His class isn't interesting to most, however I really enjoyed it. Read the text book and you'll get a good grade! He is boring but he knows his stuff
I liked him at first, but now that I am halfway through the semester, I wish I had dropped his class when I still could. His lectures are not clear and he explains things in a way that people who are not Econ majors will not understand. I basically teach myself and sometimes reading is not sufficient enough.
Swinton requires attendance to class even though it doesn't help you much in terms of learning. The text he requires teaches the material better than he does. He wants very specific answers on all assignmentstest and will drastically count off for anything left out. Study his old tests to get a good grade. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.
Swinton is nice, but will talk down to you when answering a question. His lectures were interesting if you like econ. HW is same format as tests. Just read the chapters before class, do well on the HW, and you should be fine.
He is very vague in his lectures and that leads to trouble when trying to do the homeworks. Tests are just like homeworks, very vague and leaves you questioning what is being asked. Class is a must in order to even grasp the topics he deems important. Hard to get even a B or A. Good luck...
Does not want to help in any possible way. He is smart and wants to let you know it. He talks down to students and outside of class if you want help, don't expect it at all. This is an intro level course and it's taught like we're seniors.
he talks down to all students it is very demeaning and belittling. he puts things on tests that he never even taught you and grades extremely hard . unless you're amazingly good at econ or have old tests, don't take his class.
Swinton was TERRIBLE; he is very rude to students in and out of the class and believes that a C is a good grade. I made a B in this class because I had all of the old tests - I went to the Learning Center weekly and even the tutors could not figure out what he was asking most of the time. Definitely read the book for the best clearity.
terrible teacher, rude, cant explain things, will paint you in a corner with questions to make himself look smarter
I've had Dr. Swinton twice (principles of micro and economics of taxation) and enjoyed him for both classes. Sometimes he has difficulty conveying information to students who aren't interested in econ, but his upper level classes are very interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go you won't do well.
Lectures were long but he gave really helpful examples that were often used on exams. Form a study group and don't avoid studying for tests. Tests and homework are usually similar formats so keep those as resources. Overall Swinton is one of my favorite professors here.
Swinton is incredibly educated about the material but suffers from a lack of people skills. He has an inability conveying the material making lectures dry and difficult to follow. Tests are the same format as the HW but the questions are worded so difficultly that just knowing the material isn't enough. 1/2 of my class dropped the class do not take
His class is ridiculously hard. I love econ, went to class every day and took detailed notes from his lectures, but at least half of the questions on the homework and tests are concepts he never taught. If you ask a question he makes a point to embarrass you in front of the class and then gives vague feedback. Do not take him!
Was not helpful answering in class questions, moves very quickly and explanation of topics very unclear. Would not reiterate necessary information.
He rambles in his lectures but teaches the material well. There's one homework packet due for every test and they have similar material. Tests are hard and have a short answer section. If you get economics you will do well even without reading the textbook.
Swinton knows his stuff but he does not teach it very well. I took this in a 4 week session and I thought I was going to fail. It's clear that he is unwilling to answer any questions outside of class. Makes a point to embarrass you. Teaches like we're grad students. He makes this class harder than it has to be.
Read the book, go to class, take notes, get tutoring. YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY TRY IN THIS CLASS.
Least favorite teacher i have ever had. not a good guy and doesn't care about his students.
4 homework packets, 4 tests. All hard. He's a tough grader. He's really picky about punctuality. Don't be late, especially when you have homework to turn in. I went to class everyday and still struggled. Not good at teaching. I do not recommend at all.
The absolute worst class I have every taken. He could care less about his students or how they do in his class. It is SO HARD. I spend 10-15 hours studying for tests and still ended up with a B. If you can avoid it, DO NOT ever take his class.
Must do good on all quizzes to pass the class, because they count for most of your grade. The only good thing about this class was that the final was optional and the final consisted of the same questions from the quizzes taken through the semester.
Do not read all of these comments and freak yourself out over this class like I did. Yes this class is hard and youre going to have to put in time for studying. Do ALL the online participation, it will replace your lowest homework grade with a 100. Go to the learning center for help on homework, it helped my other homework grades a ton.
Class is not mandatory, but I advise not skipping. Those who went to class did better overall than those who did not show up. I outlined the textbook on my own time and it helped me immensely. Study and do homework with other students who want to do as well as you do! Be cautious with the learning center, its alright depends on the tutor there.
Class lectures are very difficult yet the tests are easy. Homework is just like the test, and gives participation grades for other textbook questions. Overall, the lectures are pretty boring and it seems many people zone out but still do fine on the test. I wouldnt skip this class because homework has no set handout date.
If you are not an econ major, I advise you NOT to take this class. He overcomplicates things and doesn't give a rip about his students. He really needs a reality chech on how to teach and respect others.
Wouldn't recommend taking his class. Attendance isn't mandatory & you don't learn anything but I would still go. The online textbook is basically the whole class which he doesn't follow but it's exactly like his test. My SI instructor even told me she knows what he is teaching because she has taken the class before but understands why I'm confused.
He is a really harsh grader and over complicates everything. His lectures are soooooo boring and he rattles on and on about unrelated stories so it's impossible to stay focused on the material itself. He makes you buy his textbook and it's actually much more useful than he is.
I took this course online and it was a lot of work, but completely doable. Professor Swinton was very kind, helpful and always quickly responded to my emails.
Both the test and homework are matching, T/F with explaining, Multiple Choice, and SR with (usually graphing or charts). I personally thought this class was very hard. His lectures are confusing, and he grades the T/F very hard. I would not take this professor for Econ unless you are really good at explaining economics. SI was confused too.
Very difficult class, not the information just the layout. He is not concerned with personal emergencies and never afraid to call you out in class. I only survived the first few weeks because of his intern's study groups. Do NOT take if you are not good with paying attention to long lectures.
Professor Swinton delights in making the simple very complicated. Over half of the class dropped his class before the deadline.
The homework is extremely difficult and has stuff that you haven't learned a lot of the time but the tests aren't too bad. Read every chapter in the book, answer all practice questions, and attend SI meetings. Swinton is an average professor but the material is really difficult so I would recommend taking this class with a different professor.
Swinton was hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had. He does not explain the material in a way that is easy to understand unless you are an Econ major. You need to go to his class or you will not understand anything on the homework or tests.
There is a reason half the class drops within the withdraw period. He has HW due on tophat with hard graphs he has not taught and new material we have not even learned yet..and it is not easy or common sense stuff. He goes way too in depth and goes way off topic in class. He is rude and not understanding at all. You'll fail, don't do it.
DO NOT TAKE SWINTON FOR THIS CLASS. probably for any other class either for that matter. he is awful. hard to understand, not helpful, very hard homework without the material to help do it. I went to the learning center for everything in this class because he simply can not teach it. 1/10 recommend.
Do not take if you have an option.
Dr. Swinton is a very serious teacher. He assigns so much homework and it is really never clear what sections of the homework are due. He also makes the class his own and teaches about stuff that does not pertain to economics. I would avoid him at all costs.
This class is hard. he doesn't help because he over complicates everything. the SI was godsend bless her. Read the textbook and if you have questions ask the SI not him. also pay more attention to the content of the powerpoint than what he says because it's more straightforward. The homework often had stuff we had not gone over in class.
This class was a nightmare
Literally so hard for no reason, God bless the SI or else I wouldn't understand anything. Avoid taking his class at all costs if you can.
Make sure you have an SI before committing to take him as your professor for Econ. This class is not impossible if you put in the time to go to SI. Test are not terrible and homework is an easy grade. I was worried about this class by the reviews, but it isn't terrible at all. I listened more to the SI then the lectures and that's where I went right
Swinton is not a bad person, just a bad teacher. He only gives you 8 opportunities to affect your grade, half being homework and half being test grades. He jumps around ALOT when he teaches, so I highly recommend you seek help from your SI teacher to pass this class.
If you get him as a professor, drop his class immediately. He was very rude and looked down upon his students as if they were inferior. He made comments to many students, and even the SI. He is a yapper and does not teach the material well. He only tells stories that make no sense in regards to the lectures.
Do not sign up for his class. Was very rude and had to learn everything from the SI ended up retaking this class with a different professor because i wanted a higher grade and it was so much better. He made some very rude and sexiest comments to me and definitely do not recommend taking his class.
Dr Swinton is a nice guy but shrimp is probably the most boring, pointless class i've ever taken. You will learn so many things you just wont ever need to know. On Friday you get to eat shrimp and its fun, but the rest of the class is just ok. He gives a few projects but one lasts the entire semester and will take up a lot of your time.
Please for the love of god do not take this man unless you already understand micro, he is just not good and has very hard test formats, you will only pass by going to si sessions or the help table and he lectures for so long. Also he was fired a little bit back due to his drop % and grade average, but rehired due to how badly they needed econ prof
Avoid this professor at all costs. He lectures on material not included on the test, you will not pass without going to SI sessions. I am currently reviewing of the final and realizing he marked multiple questions on each test incorrect when they were correct.
He is a hard grader but wants all the students to reach their peak. If it were not 4 Swinton I would not be the student I am today. Taking him made my upperlevels easier. Can't handle the heat get out the kitchen. It is a weed-out class, want easy go to the college of arts and science.
Took this class as a maymester course, very laid back, structure was nice and orderly as well. No crazy surprise assignments, always gets back to you quickly. Gives great feedback on discussion posts. Overall I'd recommend the class.
Do your self a favor when you see his name... drop the class. That was my first mistake as on the first day we had 35 students, by the second class, over 3/4 of the students dropped the class. (Get the Hint) To second that, watching paint dry is more entertaining than listening to him lecture. The class was hard with extensive HW and long tests.
Worst professor at this school. Will take Makes this class more serious than what it is. It will be your hardest class you take even thought it is a GC2Y. He tries to make the class impossible and his lectures suck. Does not give heads up when key assignments are due, you have to figure everything out on your own
