Best Math Teacher I've ever had. If you have to schedule your classes around his class, do it.
Dr. Taylor is a really great stats teacher. He breaks down the concepts and applies them to things that college student can relate to. You have to put the work in (homework, studying, etc), but he makes it worth your while because he is really helpful and dedicated.
He is a great teacher; well as great as one is going to be at teaching Calculus. The class is extremely difficult- nothing like entry MATH 1100/ 1103. You are going to need to dedicate yourself to this class, but if you put in the effort you can see some results. Calculus is hard, so if you're expecting an A... too bad. Plan to work hard!
DO NOT take this class with anyone else. John Taylor makes this class easy as 1 2 3. Seriously. I hate math and have always struggled but I aced everything in his class. You have to go to every single class. He explains everything really well. You will have HWK sets that are just like your tests. So as long as you do the HWK you have an A
Best Math teacher in the department. He explains everything clearly w/ relevant examples. Cares about his students. Helps outside class time. Don't miss any classes! He knows the subject & how to teach. Humorous, encouraging, full of tips on solving problems. Solutions Manuel is very helpful. Take him without question.
Excellent teacher in every sense of the word. Took the same class last semester and got a D. Retook it with Dr. Taylor, breezed through it while barely opening the book and got an A. Extremely helpful, a brilliant guy, and a fantastic teacher. If you take Calc of any level and he's teaching it, take him because he is worth it.
although I had drop the class due to personal problems, I learned more about calculus in his class than in any class I have taken before. I will gladly take his class again!
Amazing professor. I hope I can get him in the remainder of my math courses!
Excellent Professor! Absolutely the best I've had so far here. Made Calc II actually make sense.
All I have to say is Amazing teacher!!! I've always sucked/hated math, and after taking his class I actually like the "game" as he calls it (and got an A). As long as you go to class, take notes, and do ALL your webwork (which he helps you with), you will get an A! And you will rock the Final! Pick him!
BEST CALCULUS PROFESSOR AT UNC-Charlotte. NC State graduate, PhD professor... He knows what he is talking about. Makes things clear. Makes Calculus fun to learn. Got an A in the class.
Very hard class. GCD problems were easy but he also gives many problems (especially rings and ideals) that were not in the book. Problems are vaguely explained.
He breaks the subject down to make it understandable to the average student and gives real world examples of how the formulas are used. He is easy to talk to and will help you if you are having problems.
Math 3163 - Intro to Modern Algebra is a Ring Theory course. Dr. Taylor is outstanding in his teaching of the course. I had another professor and had to drop that course b/c I did not understand him. Dr. Taylor made Ring Theory and proofs easy & understandable, and he is the BEST MATH PROFESSOR I have ever had! I'm in Grad. School for teachng math.
Absolutely, without a doubt the best teacher I've ever had. Explains everything beautifully, prepares you for the tests like nobody else, and will answer any question. This guy has the gift of teaching, and is a fantastic guy outside of the classroom as well. Can't recommend him enough. Do what you can to make sure you take him for Calc!
Great professor! Great explanations and makes the course easy. Attending classes almost ensures a good grade!
Best math teacher I've ever had. Makes difficult concepts understandable and is always willing to help.
Best professor ever! If you go to class and do the work you will have no problem learning the material. He is amazing at breaking up the material so everyone can understand it!
His explaination is very easy to understand
BEST TEACHER EVER. That is all.
Dr. Taylor is arguably one of the best lecturers in the math department, he understands he has many different stem majors in his class (science, engineeing, technology, and math) and approaches the material in order to give clear understanding for everyone. tips 1) DO THE WEBWORK 2) Begin studying for the final early 3) attend the final review!
If you do the work, you get the grade. After halfway into the course, I discovered that our graded HW could receive an A if you went by his office and asked him how to do it. He tells you exactly what kind of problems will be on the tests. Some students have copies of his old tests and they get A's due to that.
Extremely helpful; explains a problem in many different ways
I have sat in on Taylor's lectures many times and I am continuously impressed. His kick ass mathematician skills are infinite. I would be please to be one of his scholars again--though hopefully not via a repeat! Grader to student (1:120): thoroughly graded tests or assignments and quality feedback on said artifacts would be magnificently useful...
This man is a genius! Best Math Professor that I have ever had! Taylor's clarity is essential for when the course's book is less than good. When I finish my math requirements, if Taylor teaches another course that I have not taken I will take it just because he is THE MAN! I nominate John Taylor as the mathematician guru of the year. Treat him well
A great professor for a difficult subject that covers a ton of topics. You are missing out if you do not have him as a professor at least once.
I took him for calc 2 and passed. He teaches it in ways most can understand. The class is HARD but with John Taylor it is passable. Just go to class, take notes, and ask questions and you will be fine. Definitely the best math teacher at UNCC.
Outstanding at explaining things and made a difficult course seem easier. Tests were hard but simulated the departmental final and the homework sets helped prepare us for the exams. Excellent teacher with a since of humor!!
Great teacher, took him for Calc 1 and 2, he makes Calculus look easy. Go to class every day (he takes attendance no matter size of class) take his notes and do the webwork/ hw before each test and you can pass. He is also interested in helping you succeed, if you have problems go to his office for great help!
Best Professor in Math.
The best Math teacher, He puts other math teachers to shame. Great guy, awesome teacher, very approachable and predictable if you are willing to put the time into study its an A. Dr. Taylor is A VERY GIFTED Calc teacher would take him again in Calc II if I could (and I don't even need Clac II! :P Can't say enough good things about him. LOVED HIM!!!
This man has a gift for teaching. By far the best math teacher I've ever had. Do whatever you can to get into his classes, especially if you have trouble in math, his way of explaining things is very clear.
If you want to pass Calc I or Calc II get into John Taylor's class. YOU WILL PASS!
I was scared to take Clac 1 had only had precalc in high school but got a B in this class last semester (so close to an A) He is an AMAZING teacher- very helpful, interesting, funny and makes Calc passable and at time enjoyable. It is a tough class but TAKE HIM!!!!! THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! :) thanks Dr. Taylor for everything!!!
This professor is hands down one of the best math instructors I have ever had. Any time you have trouble he never hesitated to help you out. He records his class sessions, so if you had misunderstood something in class you could always go back and revisit the moment that topic was covered. He's a pretty hilarious guy too.
Best teacher I have ever had. He genuinely cares about the students even though he jokes that he only wants you to do well so he looks good. I absolutely suck at math and he taught me pretty darn well. only downside is that everyone knows he's the man so good luck getting into this class.
This guy is brilliant. He will not just teach you so that you pass a test; he will do whatever it takes to make sure you completely understand the concept. I strongly recommend him as a professor.
Best teacher for Calculus 2. Makes calculus 2 as easy as possible to learn
If you want to PASS Calculus or Calc2 then get in his class!
I honestly wish all professors teach like Dr. Taylor. Dr. Taylor is the best teacher I ever had in my life!He is extremely helpful and nice person. Calculus II is really hard but he makes it easy.Indeed, he makes the lectures fun by his random jokes & his laugh(everybody laugh when he is laughin)his exams look like the final so you be prepared.
Dr. Taylor is AMAZING! he makes sure that all of his students are well prepared for the final. His exams are just like the homeworks so if you do not do as well on the homework, you can do better on the test. I definitely recommend him and will be taking his class again.
This guy is so awesome, that even though I failed his class, he is still helping me when he can during summer school! The F? My fault, definitely not his!
I was nervous about taking an online statistics class... but Dr. Taylor makes it do-able. He is an AWESOME professor. He makes sure you understand everything, is very clear and fair... doesn't do anything tricky. Very available/helpful to students.
UNCC, hire this man. He's pumping out competent STEM majors who actually no longer fear math. Students: Take Taylor. The last math class I had was 7th grade algebra. I got an A in calc 1. It's not easy, but this guy will make sure you understand it. Just do what he says, and get the extra help he's so willing to give. Killed my math phobia.
I'd always heard great things about Dr. Taylor and they couldn't be more true. I am taking him right now and I'm getting things about Calc that were really confusing to me in high school. He's a GREAT teacher and helps you out a ton by giving you a study guide that is basically just like the test. I have an A. Attendance is mandatory. TAKE HIM.
Definitely the best calculus teacher at UNCC. He is always there to help his students and makes sure you understand what you are doing. Dr. Taylor gives out homework sets that are almost exactly like the test, which make his class easier. Attendance is mandatory, but worth the end result!
Dr. Taylor will ruin all other professors for you because he's too good, and then you'll have to go around telling everyone your favorite class ever was Calculus II and people will look at you funny. But if you don't take him, good luck going against his elite army on the common final. Seriously, amazing. Love this man.
All around nice dude and great teacher. His laugh is hilarious too!
Dr. Taylor is the best math teacher I have ever had. If you follow his notes in class and study the practice tests you will walk away with an A. He also will prepare you for the common final. This class is an easy A if you put the work in.
Very clear, go to class so you can ask questions & rewatch his videos. Don't worry about webwork just make sure you understand & can do his examples & that will prepare you for ever test. You must do the work in order to get an A. Best teacher ever!!
Probably one of the greatest professor at UNCC! He helped out a lot more than he should have. The notes he gave in class were simple and easy to follow. He records all of his lectures, so if you ever get lost, you can always go back. I would definitely suggest taking a math class taught by him. You cannot fail his class at all!
There are no words to describe this professor, he is beyond amazing and is hands down the best professor at UNCC. Made me realize my passion for math! Schedule your classes around HIS class! TAKE CALC I AND II WITH HIM!
DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK. doctor taylor puts all his notes online along with the videos. webwork is painful, but do able. his homework he gives before a test is literally the exact same as the test, so just study that and ull get an A
Really easy. Just study the HW sets thats he gives and you'll get a 100 in his tests. They're a copy of hws except for changing some numbers
Dr. Taylor is a legend when it comes to math teachers. He is definitely the best teacher I have ever had in college. He will make sure you understand the material and will have you prepared for the final. If you go to class, do the webwork, and study for tests you will at least get a B and if you work pretty hard you'll make an A.
good teacher
He''s a great professor and explains things clearly
Took him for Calc I & II and he's by far the best professor I've had at this UNCC. He gives you all the resources to pass the class. The pace of the class was the only struggle I had with the class, but it's necessary because there's too much to cover. Highly recommend if you want to actually learn and get an A.
This man truly loves his career of instructing calculus. He imbues humor into his lectures to create an engaging learning environment. He also records every one of his lectures, so you won't be completely lost if you have to miss a class. One thing, however; do not buy the textbook. I never needed to open it once.
Honestly, he made a very hard class something easy to understand. I would recommend him to any student that needs to take Calc 1 or 2! Def one of my best professors so far at UNCC!
Best Professor ever.
Dr. Taylor is the king of the Math department. He takes what could normally be considered a tough subject for some and makes it a breeze. Be prepared to study because he won't just give you an A, but he will definitely give you all the tools necessary to get an A. Also, study the homework sets because he makes the tests based off of them!!
If you haven't figured it out yet, John Taylor is the best. He builds his class around what helps students most and takes pride in the fact that his students always do better than others. Go to lectures and pay attention... or don't, he records them all anyway. Tests aren't easy but he prepares you.
The best calculus teacher at UNCC
Take Dr. Taylor. There is a reason why the math department uses his video lectures as an aid for other professor's students.
Dr. Taylor is the best calc professor I've ever had. I took calc 1 and 2 in high school.. failed both years. Came to college, and even though it's not a breeze, Dr. Taylor gives you such a good understanding of the material that it makes you want to learn. You will have to work hard to get an A, but it is never out of reach. Very straightforward.
Dr. Taylor is the best math professor at UNCC. Print out the notes before class, he'll explain everything plus some webwork problems (yes, always webwork). Mandatory review before each test, nearly identical to the test. He is very willing to help, just stop by his office. There are 2 projects, super easy.
Dr. Taylor is the best math professor I've ever head. He provides so many resources to make sure his students succeed, such as prepared notes to follow along with and mandatory test review sessions (that help A LOT). There is a lot of course work, but it only helps to improve skills and really perform well in the subject. Take him, if you can.
Awesome math professor. If you do everything you need to, then you will make at least a B. Very understanding lectures and records lectures in case you missed something. Can only miss four class periods before being penalized. Holds review sessions each week and his homework packets mirror the tests. Must take him if given the chance!
Alright, this class is hard no way you split it up. I would absolutely take John Taylor for any Math class offered if I could. He is very very clear in every lecture and, even though this class was hard, he made it very manageable. Work for him, and he will work with you no doubt.
Great professor! If you have the opportunity to get into one of his lectures do it, you will not regret it. He explains things very well and is always willing to help any student that drops by his office no matter if your his student or not. Had him for MAT 3163 and 1242 and by far is the best. Highly recommend taking him.
Must go to class because he is very strict with attendance. Lots of HW. He gives you a study guide before the test thats the exact same format as the test just with different numbers. Only hard part of the class is the online work, but that's the systems fault.
Absolutely the best professor I've ever had for any subject. Dr. Taylor makes calculus interesting and really cares about his students success. My only complaint is he doesn't currently teach Calc 3. Go to class, do the homework, and study his study guides and you'll get an A!
Dr. Taylor is amazing. His lectures are kind of boring, but they are clear and simple. He will re-open assignments if you just ask, and his review sessions are extra credit. Mandatory attendance, but the class is a breeze, and I am terrible at math. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, other UNCC Math Professors aren't nearly as good.
Good teacher. Explains things well course is composed of tons of homework (lots) and 3 test.
It's been said so much around campus that everyone just assumes he's the best. Doesn't respond to emails unless you email him five times. It's hard to keep up with him and once a problem is done he moves on and doesn't give a chance to make sure you got everything.
Best teacher EVER. Enough said.
It is true. Dr. Taylor is a very good professor. He records his lectures, so if you miss anything you can go online and look. Even though he's a great teacher, you still have to put in a lot of effort, Calc II is the hardest calculus. Webwork is a pain too because of the format. Overall, great professor but you to work HARD.
I have my reserves about this instructor. Based on a lot of feedback I see there is plenty of positives about Dr. Taylor, but he goes through the lecture so fast and does not try and make sure you understand the material before he moves on to the next problem. I don't see what the big hype is about him. Also, very contradicting!
If you don't seek help early you won't pass the class, most people don't succeed their first time he says.
Of Calc 1, Calc 2, and Calc 3, Dr. Talyor's Calc 2 class has been the most successful to me and Calc 2 is supposed to be the toughest. Homeworks help a lot, test reviews exactly match the tests, and great at explaining his lectures in detail. Stay on top of Webwork, pre lecture videos, and homeworks and you will succeed.
A lot of webwork assignments, and homework packets that is pretty much the test. Attend the class and you will do well in it, notes are partly filled out and you just need to follow along. If taking MATH1241 or MATH1242, take it with the Taylors.
He is amazing. He'll work so hard so you have a solid understanding of the material which for sure would help you in more advanced classes whether you're a math major or an engineering major
Just like any Calc class, it's going to be tough. Dr. Taylor does a great job simplifying it down and making sure everyone understands the topic. He does a review of the material right before the test and the test practically mirrors the review. Definitely one of the best Calc professors
Amazing. Made Calc 2 really easy . Lot easier than I expected.
Dr. Taylor is great. He made a difficult concept (Calculus II) easier to understand. Even though he is a great teacher, you still have to study and do your homework. Just because he's a great teacher doesn't mean you'll get an easy A. You get out what you put in. Helpful and posts all of lecture videos online incase you miss class. Don't skip.
Calc 2 is hard, but not near as hard as it's rumored to be if you have Dr. Taylor. He provides notes for you to use in lecture, records all his classes so you can review, explains things if you don't understand, and is there for you outside class. You have to work hard but an A is totally doable. Drops your lowest test & homework. Great professor.
Fantastic professor. If you do all of the homework and study for the tests, there's no reason you shouldn't do well. He makes everything simple to understand even if the concepts are not simple. He drops your lowest hw, test grade, and replaces the final with lowest test. Finished with a 99.8 in the class and I got a C in Calc I.
Definitely take him if you can! Everything he assigns you matters & will help you when it comes to preparing for the tests and the final. Webwork is assigned often but you get as many attempts as you need to get a 100. His weekly review sessions were so helpful & he was very approachable in his office hours. Makes Calc 1 seem like a piece of cake!
John Taylor is one of the best if not best professors I've ever had. Took him for calc 1 and 2 and he is always willing to help you out. He's precise, let's you know exactly what will be on the tests, and has multiple office hour slots if you ever need help. If you have to take calculus take it with him
By far the best professor of any math class I've taken. He not only made calculus easy, but he got it to make sense from a real world perspective. He is always helpful and has office hours throughout the week.
He is awesome; makes the materials easy to understand. Offers some extra credit opportunities. Accessible outside of class.
Easily the best professor I've ever had. Replaces lowest test score with your final exam grade if it is higher, if you have less than 3 absences. Homework looks exactly like the tests.
Dr. Taylor had plenty of material to make this class easy to follow. I have a book from a friend, but I did not use it for this class. Lectures are recorded and review homework is given before tests. He was available to answer questions during his office hours. I would definitely take one of his classes again.
I had Dr. John for Calculus 1 and am currently taking calc 2 with him. Dr. John is one of my favorite professors by far. He is very passionate about mathematics and is a fantastic instructor. If you do everything he gives you to do you will pas calc 1 with an A no problem. Before every test he gives a test review witch is basically the test.
Like he needs another amazing review... he's the best
The best math instructor I've ever had. Great explanations and relates material to the real world. Good luck getting into one of his classes, they fill up instantly.
Plan your schedule around this man's classes. He writes the math department notes handouts and usually writes the common finals, so he will prepare you for the exam if you don't skip class, and will crack jokes in the process. He also allows tablets and Surface devices for note taking, and you can use your phone if you aren't being a distraction.
Mr. Taylor is a great professor!!! I really wish that he taught more courses because I would take every class I can with him. Taught the material in a way that made sense, and is available outside of class.
John Taylor is the best math teacher I've had! He introduces new concepts in lectures one part at a time while doing examples after each part taken from webwork (homework site). If you follow along on the notes he gives you to print out, you'll have a great understanding of it and its application.
Great lectures, he has a knack for breaking down hard calc concepts into things students can easily understand. Students struggle with Test 4 so prepare for that. He might replace the final with your lowest exam and he gave a few extra credit opportunities. Webwork counts for a big chunk so definitely keep up with that and you're good.
He's earned a reputation as the best math professor at UNCC. He strictly enforces a "3 absences and you fail" policy, as well as lengthy homework sets each class. If you want structure, he's your guy. If you're a busy adult, this class will be a nightmare logistically.
8 hw sets, 3 tests, and 1 final. Memorize some definitions, study hw sets for the tests and tests for the final. I love you, Dr. Taylor!
Dr. Taylor is a great professor. He takes tough calculus concepts and simplifies it so that anyone can understand it. If you ask questions after class or during office hours, he is friendly and more than willing to help. Homework sets look just like the tests. I will be taking calculus II with him next semester. Hands down the best math professor.
Dr. Taylor is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He simplified concepts and made me actually understand Calculus. They're homework sets due each week, presection videos and quizzes, 4 test, and 4 reviews (Do the reviews. They are basically the test!). BTW do not get the book. You do not use it at all.
He's pretty great, but it's a tough class. If you do the homework, you will be fine.
Best math teacher hands down. Calc 2 is not that hard. You just have to memorize and recognize patterns. Print out his notes (188 pages) and dont miss class. You can do well.
Amazing professor. Seriously. Calc2 is incredibly challenging but Dr. Taylor makes it easy to understand and find patterns. He prepares us well for exams, gives thorough notes, and records his lectures so we can use them to study later. He is a fantastic teacher, very patient, and quite funny. I cannot recommend him highly enough. 11 out of 10!
An amazing professor. Makes everything clear and understandable. Can only have 3 absences before it starts affecting your grade. Never used the textbook so I don't recommend buying unless you need extra practice. Taylor cares for the students a lot and will help you whenever needed.
This class is hard as heck, but Dr. Taylor sure makes it worth it. The man is a legend. A true god among men. I've never met a man who is so confident that he does math with a bullet shell pen that he ordered from the NRA magazine. He looks like he should be over a construction site, but here he is teaching you advance math. A true baller.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Explains topics clearly and logically and helps make it easier to understand abstract ideas.
If you can, take Dr. Taylor for Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. He works through problems step by step and explains very clearly. Go to class and do the test reviews (which look identical to the actual test) and you'll get a good grade. Try in Calc 1 and its an easy A. Calc 2 is more difficult, but is an easy B if you really memorize the formulas.
Great professor! Yes, Calculus II is tough. There is a lot of homework and the tests are difficult. However, test reviews prepare you for the unit tests, which prepare you for the final. Good at showing all steps and explaining theories. Highly recommend Dr. Taylor. Anyone who reviews him poorly is delusional and should be ignored. (See ex. below)
John Taylor is the best calc prof hands down. Not only does he methodically go through examples for you to study, but his notes are organized, his practice tests give you the best study material possible, and the homework is hard, but makes the tests easy. I had a 94% average on tests, but I got an 83% on the final and BARELY got an A.
Dr. Taylor is the best calculus teacher at UNCC. With his printed notes and excellent teaching skills, you will know calculus like the back of your hand. I took him for calculus I and II and I can say that he is the best math teacher I have ever had. Also, do not skip class because he gives extra credit at the end of the semester.
Dr. Taylor is awesome. He is great at explaining hard concepts and will gladly help you after class or in office hours as needed. He wants his students to succeed and gives you all the resources you need. Test grading is a bit unfair, however, because a simple mistake can cost you almost half a letter grade on your test. Be careful.
Dr. Taylor was outstanding in Modern Algebra! I had another professor and had to drop because the other professor was awful. Dr. Taylor very clear and awesome! He made this material very clear and taught through patterns. Also, I took this course over the summer which makes it even more difficult, but not with Dr. Taylor. Taylor is simply the best!
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! You think Calculus is hard, take John Taylor he is a miracle worker in education! You do NOT even need the textbook his lectures are so good with his notes, the tests are basically exactly identical to class notes and study guides. He is THE BEST TEACHER at UNCC! I love his teaching styles! GO JOHN TAYLOR!
Everybody loves this guy but I don't really see why. I'd only recommend him if you already know what you're doing. I was lost at the beginning and never caught up. He goes at a very fast pace which isn't my style. He's a nice guy and is extremely smart, but I wouldn't recommend him if you're struggling with Calculus.
Professor Taylor knows what he's talking about when it comes to math. He's very lecture heavy, the entire class is him reading the notes and doing practice problems. He's one of the most respected calc teachers at UNCC. Bonus: If you miss two or less classes he'll take your lowest test grade and replace it with your final grade.
Professor Taylor is a very clear and precise professor. He gives specific instructions as to how he wants you to format answers - follow them. Print off his notes and bring them to class. The test reviews he gives are exactly like the exams. He forms his material for engineering students, which is great for prepping for physics and engr 1202.
He is a miracle worker!
Best Professor at the University! So helpful because he gives you everything that you need to succeed. You just have to put in the work and you'll do fine.
Whatever they pay this man, it is not enough.
Dr. Taylor is a great professor! Show up for class, keep up with the webworks (yes, it's a lot, but it actually helps!) and do the before class quizzes consistently, and you should honestly have no problem getting A's on his tests. Dr. Taylor could teach calculus to 8th graders without issue!
Dr. Taylor is AMAZING! I sucked at Math before but his class is great, and Calc 2 is the hardest math class here, but with Dr. Taylor teaching, it feels easier to understand the material even though the class requires a lot of work and memorization.
Dr. Taylor was an amazing professor. I am terrible at math and he made it as easy as possible. Always willing to answer questions or go back over problems. Always recorded lectures so you could rewatch or watch if you missed class. Drops some low grades and does a lot to help your grade if you have below a certain number of absences.
boring lecture, but test reviews are the same thing as the tests. Offers extra credit too which is nice. But I did not do good on the final so I ended up going from a high B to a high C, but that was lowkey my fault. He also drops your lowest test and replaces it with the final (which is why I got a C). he cares alot about his students
makes business calc so easy to understand! i came into calculus terrified because people say its hard, and im just waiting for the hard part here cause Dr. Taylor is a MIRACLE WORKER.
Took him for Calc 1 and barely caught an A. Took him again for Calc 2 and barely got a B. This dude is hands down the best calc 1/2 prof ever.
He is hands down one of the best professors at UNCC. Tests are difficult, but the test reviews are CRUCIAL to passing the test. Study the test review thoroughly and you will pass. Webwork is pretty difficult sometimes. Best part is he records every lecture, so you can go back and view it later if you have trouble with an example. VERY USEFUL!
Best math professors! Gives out an amazing study guide that is similar to the test, go to his office hours because he will help you. He makes funny comments during lectures, teaches amazing! I suck at math and he makes it enjoyable. Highly recommended.
just do the home work and practice packets and you will pass. packet is just like the test so study it
He gets the best results out of the calc professors. Attendance is mandatory, but he records and posts every lecture in case you miss or need clearing up. Class sometimes runs over a few min. He's funny and keeps things light. Gives practice exam that he goes over (and posts) which is just like the actual exams. Gives HW but works out some for you.
This man is the Bob Ross of math professors.
Very good professor. Posts videos to help you review lectures. Test reviews are just like the actual tests
I barely passed pre-calc in high school, and always thought of myself as a kid who can't do math. As it turns out, they just had no idea how to teach. He shows you every step for every problem, and is very easy to follow even if you have trouble paying attention. If you want to pass calculus, take it with John Taylor.
Everyone speaks highly of him for a reason, if you are looking to learn, take one of the Taylor's
Arguably the best Calc teacher at UNCC. Super organized and easy to understand. Canvas page is laid out very neat and everything is easy to find.
I'll start by saying that I've never felt the need to post on here about any of my professors (good or bad) until now. Taylor is such a great teacher I wish he taught all of my math classes. His HW and tests are a little harder than others (from what I've heard), but it's because he bases them off of the previous semester's common final exam.
John Taylor is simply the GOAT. He is a fantastic teacher; I took calc 1 in high school and really struggled to get a C. However, I was able to get an A in Dr. Taylor's class easily because he goes over everything in an example problem to make sure that everyone understands the material.
He is really an amazing teacher, makes calc so easy to understand. Gives a lot of homework but in the end that helps you study and boosts your grade. Wouldn't take calc with anyone but him.
One of the most caring people I've ever met. He truly cares for his students. I took calculus in high school but didn't learn a single thing. Professor Taylor changed that real quick. I learned a lot in this class and am sad I won't be able to have him for Calc 2.
Take all the Maths classes you need with John Taylor. He'll keep explaining things until you understand. He's patient, super caring and super funny. Calculus is heavy by itself so of course there's lots of homework and you have to work hard. But trust me, professor Taylor makes it as easy as it can be.
If you've ever wonder if a rock was able to learn Calculus 2, here is a confession. I in fact am as smart as a rock when it comes to math, and I was able to learn and pass Calculus 2. This alone should tell you how good Dr. John Taylor is at teaching Calculus. Take him at all cost. He is in fact the Bob Ross of teaching.
In 15 years of schooling this was the hardest math class I've ever taken and the first one I've failed. Feedback on what you missed was nonexistent, as well additional help because the only thing you get for a response is to review your notes and the book. Don't expect to know what you missed because you won't get a grade back, ever
I go to Chapel Hill and took this course so I would not have to take Calc 1 there. Professor Taylor's lectures are great even on youtube and this class is very intuitive. Much easier than any math, and most classes at Carolina.
I did have to buy a copy of his notes, which could be fit in a binder. Very organized notes but long. Formulas NEED TO BE MEMORIZED. He gave extensions on homework sets without us expecting them so you might get lucky. No late credit. Videos of class (the notes) were all online so if you were absent you can check them.
Even though Math 3163 is not a class that is designed to be online (COVID-19), Dr. Taylor did a great job in creating video lectures from home. This is a tough class as it is all about Mathematical proofs, and you must get the pattern right from Chapter 1 and 2. They key to Dr. Taylor's class is to pay attention and study as he is awesome!
Best Math Professor I have ever had. He is very understanding and he wants you to succeed. I am very lucky to have him as a professor. If you show him respect and initiative in his class he will go above and beyond.
I enjoyed having professor Taylor, Ive heard from several friends that their professors use his videos for lectures since he is easy to understand compared to their instructors. Its a math class so expect standard homework but out of all the calc teachers in the department, I definitely would recommend him.
This guy is great. He lives up to his reputation. The homework just about killed me, but I have never had a better math teacher. He makes sure you know what you are doing. He'll walk you right through how to do the problems and gives lots of examples and practice. My only complaint is his break-neck pacing.
He is better suited for in person learning. The first two tests were difficult because you had to manually type long calculus answers into a difficult textbox (very time consuming for a timed test). He gives a lot of homework and isn't very flexible but knows what he is teaching. He makes sure you understand everything and will answer any question.
Literally the best Calc teacher. His teaching is very straight forward and is really easy to understand. However, if you procrastinate you will fall behind because Calc itself is tough but he makes it easy to learn. You will need to have your camera on during class and during tests, but you can use your notes :).
He's a good guy, but learning math online was not fun. Earning an A in this class took a lot of work, but it was manageable. You have to watch all of his videos for the specific section you're on all before class and complete the notes. During the Zoom lecture, he'll go over the WebWork problems. I would just say the pace he was going at was hard.
I enjoyed his class, but there was so much to do every week. The webwork HW would take me hours to finish and you have to watch the lecture videos before the next class which took hours as well. He does extra credit and replaces the final exam with your lowest test grade. He used the class time to go over HW which was helpful, but I recommend him.
John Taylor is by far (in my opinion) the best math teacher for UNCC. His class is hard, but he definitely prepares you for the final very well as long as you are doing your work. Being calc 2, expect it to be a tough class. He explains everything very thoroughly and makes hard topics easy to understand. He will spend time to answer any questions
This man made taking Calc 1 again enjoyable and super easy. 100% recommend his class if you can get into his class
Love Dr. Taylor as my calc 1 & 2 professor. Definitely try to be personable and reach out or participate because he was very lenient on extending assignments if needed. The class is pretty straightforward and is your typical math class so expect weekly work but hes probably the best out of all the calc professors.
Dr. Taylor's Calc II test was essentially hell. It consumes every day of the week more than any other class. Tests are hard with little forgiveness. You have 2 weekly webworks and quizzes normally but that workload can randomly double. He is your best bet for Calc II more than likely but just be ready to feel pain.
To put it bluntly, this class is very difficult. If you have good attendance Dr. Taylor will replace your lowest test grade with your final grade. All the other math professors use Dr. Taylor's videos to teach. You will need to spend a lot of time studying to get a passing grade in this class. There's no way around that. His videos help a lot tho.
Dr. Taylor is the best calc professor who I have ever had. His style of teaching helped me throughly understand the math problems really well and his explanations also helped me with how to approach solving the math problems.
good guy
Love him as a person but his class for Calc I & II is plain difficult. I somehow managed to make an A after so much hard work, I really thought it wasn't even going to be possible. At least with the online learning, I spent HOURS doing the notes videos multiple times a week. The class is hard to make an A and consumes A LOT of time. Responsive.
I think I can say he is the best math professor in the university.
The goat of Calc. Take him and no one else. Knows the notes inside out because he wrote them. The course is difficult and the workload is a lot but there is no one else besides Dr. Taylor himself who can help you through this stuff.
Hands down the best math 1241 professor. Works out every problem and his explanations make sense. Math 1241 with him didn't seem difficult at all. He also works out through all the algebra step by step since he knows most students don't know every piece of algebra since high school. If you can take him, take him.
Calc II was a slog despite because I was depressed, but Dr. Taylor made this class more bearable. I also did his 1241 class with an A+. Exam curves are nice, response times are fast, he's a greater explainer, but there's a lot of homework problems. NOTE: The workload is DEATH in remote class due to 10 hrs of total lecture per week + 40 HW problems.
Love this guy. He and his wife wrote the textbook themselves and they have made a tonnn of videos for people who need extra practice. His TAs were also so involved and I legitimately enjoyed this class.
Phenomenal. Hardest math class that I've taken (so far), but Dr. Taylor breaks everything down and makes it a lot simpler to digest. His in-class explanations are in "plain english" vs the textbook definitions which are in "inscrutiable mathematical speak". WebWorks have unlimited attempts (which is so helpful)
Ive never had an educator who was as passionate and borderline incredible as Dr. Taylor. Is his class hard? Yeah. But if you put in the time and do the work, youll surely come out on top. He gives you every opportunity to succeed and hes certainly a man of the people.
Best math prof Ive ever had and its not even close. Work hard and you will get a good grade
The BEST calc teacher in the world, I actually learned math in this class. PAY ATTENTION to his lectures and the webwork problems. He walked through every step and problem and calculation in his lecture, he is very time efficient as well as very lenient in grading/curving. PLEASE go to the lectures and don't skip, every test review is like the test
Dr. Taylor is one of the most passionate teachers I have ever had. He is very committed to his craft and truly cares about his students success. Even offers generous bonus points towards the end of the semester. That being said you still have to work hard in his class, it will be difficult.
Had a terrible professor for MATH 1241 and used his videos embedded in canvas to learn on my own. I just knew I had to get him for MATH 1242. His lectures are great and the guided notebooks really help when doing homework as you have problems exactly the same. Tests are formatted the same way as test reviews and are therefore invaluable study tools
He took everything good about every professor he had in college and turned it into 1. He rounds up, factors grades, dropped things, gives plenty of warning for everything and sets up sessions to help student. Plus, you learn. Good professor, definitely taking him for Calc 2.
It's Dr. Taylor. He writes the guided notes and makes the videos. Enough said.
Dr. Taylor is easily the best calculus professor at UNCC. His lecture videos are used for every other professor's classes, and his lectures in person are even better. Do anything you can to get this man as your professor.
best prof ive ever had for sure.
Best calc prof at UNCC
Best Math teacher of all time... he is the G.O.A.T. of math. I wish he taught Stat 2122.
John Taylor is the BEST!! Even though I came right out of highschool APCalc it wasn't that bad. HW has unlimited attempts. Very organized-has his own book that has every problem he goes over in class. if you miss a lecture they're on Youtube. The tests are exactly like review guide he let us start test 15 min before class started. has office hours.
STAY ON TOP OF YOUR HOMEWORK!
Lot's of homework, but thats how calc 2 works. Keep up with the graded homework and assignments and you'll be fine.
Dr. Taylor is the man. Seriously, I have struggled in every single math class I've ever taken until this point, but with Dr. Taylor everything in Calc 1 made complete sense to me. Stay on top of your homework, watch the pre-class lecture videos, and come to class! Drops the lowest HW + quiz grades w/ few enough absences. Best professor I've had.
His teaching method is very straightforward and good for memorization. He focuses on patterns in math. By far the best math teacher I've had in my entire life.
The class is hard simply because of the material but Dr. Taylor is amazing at keeping it interesting and helping any student get through as long as they pay attention and do the work. 10/10 best prof I've ever had
Dr. Taylor is the best instructor for this math course. Calc 1 is no joke and the material is tough, however he handles it with grace and is willing to help out one on one and offered various review sessions throughout the year, especially at exam times. Dr. Taylor combines humor with his mathematics to make lectures bearable and less stagnant.
Dr Taylor is great. He knows his material and explains it in a fun, easy way. The calc is a hard class, so be ready to study and don't forget to do your homework. The only con I've noticed is that he is not the best when it comes to responding to emails.
The best calculus professor! Though the material is difficult, he explains it really well. There are pre-class videos/quizzes and homework assignments. Practice tests are exactly like the tests. He replaces the lowest exam score with the final exam if you have no absences. Fun and engaging lectures!
Take him for calculus courses. The test reviews are similar to the test, but don't let it be your only way of studying. If you do all of the Webwork, you'll get extra credit. If you have no absences, your final will replace your lowest test score. He's good with communication and he definitely knows what he's doing. Do what you can to get him.
Dr. Taylor is not only knowledgeable in the material of Cal 2, but he has a gift of teaching. He is able to take the hard concepts and explain them at our level. I've been out of school for 15 years, yet I was able to learn the material. Cal 2 is a tough class. You got to work hard. I highly recommend Dr. Taylor. Best of luck to everyone.
Lot of homework, but not hard. You get unlimited problem attempts, easy 100. You will need the guided notes, but don't bother with the book. 4 test in total, lowest grade of the first 3 can be replaced with higher final exam grade. Lowest two homework grades will also be dropped. Overall great professor.
Gives great lectures, communicates well, assignments are all very straightforward. The class will be hard regardless because of the material, but if you put in the effort in Dr. Taylor's class you should succeed. Do the webwork assignments, do the pre-class videos, and memorize the formulas.
Dr. Taylor is the professor who made me love Math again. If you focus on what you are doing and keep up with the assignments regularly, you should be good with this class. Because he is already giving great lectures and recordings.
Dr. Taylor is the best professor I've ever had. He gives perfect lectures and you fully understand the topic all the times. If you just do the assignments and keep following the topics and recordings you should be good.
Professor John Taylor was by far the best math professor I have had throughout my education. He is clear and precise when lecturing and is always open to discussion when you need help. If you are contemplating taking any higher level math course at UNC Charlotte, I would recommend taking a course taught by John Taylor.
I had Dr. Taylor for Calc I and Calc II. He is the man, seriously. No trick questions, no trying to catch you off-guard with questions on tests. All questions come straight from the ones that he does in class. I've struggled with math in the past and I feel like I left this class truly understanding the content. The best professor I've ever had.
He has a YouTube channel that has excellent videos for GRE subject math prep.
Great professor. I have heard he does not teach linear algebra much, but if you have the chance to take him you should. He does lots of examples that are not hard to follow along with. He also makes videos of the lectures to put on the canvas page so students can look over the material. His homework is a great study guide for the tests.
Dr. Taylor is an amazing teacher. His lectures quickly and efficiently teach you Calculus, and the entire experience is a joyride. My advice, though: Don't buy the James Stewart textbook unless you think you will have trouble with the material. It's supplementary, and the textbook he wrote is really all we've needed so far.
Professor Taylor is a gem. He explains everything in detail. You will know whatever class you're taking with him by the end. However, he is strict and the material is tough, but he is without a doubt one of the best (if not the best) Professor at this University. Take a class with him at some point, else you'll be doing yourself a disservice.
If you are signing up for Linear Algrebra, TAKE Dr. John Taylor. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IN UNCC.
Everyone knows Dr Taylor is the GOAT. If you have him as an option for classes I would take it 200% of the time.
I never thought that Linear Algebra would be the best class of my semester, but Dr. Taylor made sure it was. Every lecture is recorded and posted, he's got a great sense of humor, he is very transparent about what is on the tests, and the whole class loves him. His material is *tough* no doubt, but he works to make it fun and interesting for us all
Dr. Taylor makes calculus as easy as possible by giving great examples and study guides that are amazing when preparing for his tests. He tells everything you need to know and never skips steps. You should do everything in your power to make sure that you get Dr. Taylor.
Absolutely brutal grading, insane amounts of homework, and completely unavailable to ask for help at all times.
Amazing professor. He is a hard grader, but his lectures are amazing, and he posts them online. Be wary, here is a quote taken from his syllabus: "If you have more than 3 absents (excused or unexcused), your grade for the class will be lowered by a letter grade, and if you have more than 5 absents, you will fail and have to repeat the class!"
His teaching style is phenomenal. I actually took his wife's course last semester, but she uses all of his video content. I have never had a math teacher make such difficult material seem so easy. Calc 1 & Calc 2 require a lot of work, but it is manageable when you have a good instructor. I would take him for every math class if I could.
Dr. Taylor undoubtedly knows what he's doing when it comes to math. However, I found that his classes were not entirely helpful, as every lecture consisted only of copying down equations he wrote on the board. As someone who struggles with calculus, I would have liked to see more interactive lessons.
Look, calculus is hard. But if you take advantage of the multitude of resources Dr. Taylor offers, you'll be fine. You might even learn to enjoy it. It's hard work, and there's a lot of it. But last semester I transformed from an avowed math hater to some sort of calc loving heretic Verdict is: put in the time, put in the effort, and it'll pay off.
Dr. Taylor is a goat professor who is capable of explaining the hard concepts at our level. All you have to do is make sure you're studying ahead of time for the exams and attending class regularly because both of those are the most important things in the class. If you have good attendance, you will get your lowest test grade replaced with final!
If you have to take calculus, make sure you have Dr. Taylor. He makes a very hard subject seem easy, and explains things perfectly. There is a lot of work to do outside of class but it is necessary, and you will do well in class if you do them.
Calc 2 is a really difficult class but he makes it easy. He simplifies stuff and only tells you what you need. He's very straight to the point. He wants all of his students to succeed, but sometimes can be intimidating. Has guided notebook for like $10 and uses that for class. Lots of webwork problems. Test reviews are really helpful for exams.
Great professor, he always makes sure you understand the concepts as long as you're willing to learn. Attendance and participation can make this class a lot easier as well as utilizing office hours to get extra help.
If you are an engineering or comp sci student, you will do well in this class but he expects everyone to have an engineering brain and if you don't and do not write the work out exactly how he wants it, you will fail the tests which will lead you to fail the class. He needs to learn that there are other STEM majors taking this class.
Hes a funny guy but teaches math like a wiz.
He is the best. He wrote the guided notebook that you use in class so following along is very easy. Tests are easy with half multiple choice and half free response. Obviously, you have to put in the effort to do well in clac but if you are willing I am sure you will do great with him.
Probably the best math teacher I have had. The material can be hard but if you follow along and take time to practice it is not that bad. The guided notebook is very helpful that you can use during lectures.
Easy Professor. Just do the test review 2-3 times. Test is exactly like test review with numbers changed. EASY!!! A+. Give 5% curve on final grade after final exam to help you get your desired grade depending on your attendance.
Dr. Taylor truly is the best professor at UNCC. Calc 2 felt like 6th-grade math. Lectures are amazing and clear, and the guided notebook makes it super easy to follow along. WebWork is annoying and there was a lot of homework, but it helps you learn. Tests were just like the reviews, and homework was harder than the tests which made for easy tests.
Overall great guy. Really wants every student to succeed. It is definitely possible to get an A, he gives you everything you need. NOTE: When he goes away from the textbook and comes up with a new question. Jot it down in the back of your guided notebook There's a 95% chance that is going to be a test question.
It's extremely important to pay attention, review your lecture notes, come to class, and ask questions. Pay special attention to when Dr. Taylor mentions a specific question will be on the test, as it will most likely be on an upcoming test - Make a note on your guided notebook! Calculus 2 is a lot of memorizing be sure to try your best.
Professor Taylor was a great professor. Gave so many resources, and really helped people understand the lectures. The only thing I didn't like about him was his time management. He would start a question when we were supposed to leave, and have terrible time management. All around great professor.
I did not have him as a professor for 1241 but his online lectures on Canvas and Youtube helped me immensely (more so than my professor did). I had emailed him asking for help and he responded in a timely manner and helped me even when I was not a student of his.
If you can take a math class with this man, DO IT. I have never understood calculus/math, and I am walking away with an A. He wrote a textbook with his wife, and it is extremely helpful. Most of the assignments are on webwork and pretty easy. The tests are heavily weighted as well as the final exam. He offers plenty of resources and help.
Definitely one of the best math teachers ever. Helped me thoroughly understand calc 2 even though I'm really bad at it. However, he's not as lenient compared to his wife when it comes to assignments. I had severely injured my arm and wasn't able to write, and was provided only a day extension, which led to a 0 in it. Still the calculus GOAT though.
JUST TAKE HIM NO MATTER WHAT. HE IS GOAT. Tests are harder compared to other professor but his teaching style is better then any other professor. TAKE HIM.
Dr. Taylor is an amazing professor and very good at explaining difficult concepts. Calc 2 has a lot of material so you definitely have to work hard to get a good grade. His tests are very very similar to his review videos so if you know the material on the video you should be good for the test. Work hard and you can get an A in his class!
Awesome professor, gives extra credit opportunities for near-perfect attendance. Class is him going through his textbook, which allows you time to take notes or catch up on assignments. Lots of online assignments, but it's important to keep up. Due dates come up fast. Lectures can be pretty entertaining as sometimes he goes on funny tangents.
Dr. Taylor is the best math professor/teacher I have ever had. The way he teaches makes so much sense and he answers questions in a very clear way. There is a lot of homework and the tests are a good chunk of your grade, but I think if you try at the class and don't rely on other methods you will pass.
Took him for Calc I, understood everything due to his accelerated, but effective teaching style. Unfortunately didn't get him for Calc II. Just relied on his vids, was able to understand everything and passed even with a horrible professor. You know a professor is amazing when they walk into a class for a review session and get a standing ovation.
Dr. Taylor was very tough to learn from. He is a great person. I think that he has a way of teaching that works for a lot of people and doesn't for a lot too. I had to take this class with someone else at a different school and passed with flying colors (not trying to brag). The way I was taught was better and different than the way they made it.
He assigns a lot of homework. He is very picky when grading test as well. I don't recommend him if you're taking more than 14 credit hours. He is always saying "This is calculus we don't stop" I don't believe that is fair considering we don't only go to school for calculus. He also doesn't allow late work and the assignments start coming fast.
If you're not taking calc with John Taylor you're making bad life choices. Lots of assignments, but they are relevant to the material. Tests are modeled from test reviews. His method is easy to follow AND there are video lectures of the content covered in class so you can watch to fill in gaps. A perfectly done class. Makes a hard thing easy.
Dr. Taylor has been by far my favorite professor this semester, and his process of teaching has actually allowed me to enjoy the math that I have to do. Calculus is a hard class, but it's very possible if you keep up during lecture and practice some on your own time.
His classes can be boring at times but he is a really great professor. Truly helps students understand the materials well. Just make sure to show up to classes to get extra credit at the end of the year and learn the material.
Great prof but I wouldn't say its an easy A. gives you everything you need and makes tests similar to test review so do the test review multiple times and you will be fine. 45% weight for tests and 30% for final which is crazy. Webworks for HW are bad for units 2.7 and 4.5. those third day recitation classes were a drag, so taking desire for 1242.
Lots of homework but that's because it's calculus. He does a great job teaching and will help his class achieve the highest scores every unit. His classes fill up quick though, so if you take Calc 1 or mostly any other class, sign up for him first
Awesome teacher who teaches you what you need to know in an understandable way. Very structured class that is easy to follow. Tests resemble the test reviews. He brings the same good energy to every lecture, and I respect that.
I'm shocked he has not been crushed to death from the weight of carrying the entire math department on his shoulders. Simply the GOAT.
Dr. Taylor is the one you want for Calc I. He wrote the textbook and made the videos that every class teaches with. His classes consistently score higher than every other professor. He's an engaging lecturer. Most of the grades are homework and tests, but if you keep up with the videos and attend class you'll do well.
Taylor is the greatest math teacher of all time. The lectures are thoughtful and effective. The tests are not easy, and there is a lot of homework but if you take him, you will learn the material.
Professor Taylor is awesome. He is passionate about what he teaches and he cares about his students. He uses real life examples to explain concepts. He has videos made for each section. One of the best professors at UNCC!
THE GREATEST PROFESSOR ALIVE!!
Great lectures and is the best professor in the Math Department for sure! If you can, definitely aim for him as your professor.
It's calculus, it's going to be hard. But he makes the material accessible in a way and is a great teacher who knows his stuff. He uses a lot of real-world examples to explain certain things and give you guidance on how to attack problems. One of the best professors and the best calc 1 professor. Get him at all costs.
Dr. Taylor was amazing for calculus. It is by far the most difficult class I've ever taken but he makes himself available to all of his students for any questions or concerns. There is a lot of homework but nothing that you shouldn't be able to manage. Make sure to attend class because he provides a lot of benefits to students with good attendance.
Need to keep up with notes
Taylor is an amazing professor, I took Calculus 1 with him and having taken calc classes before, I didn't learn it best anywhere else but with him. I depend on good lectures to learn my material, and he does it best by explaining topics step by step. Lectures might get boring sometimes, but you just have to get used to them.
While he does go through the content quickly, he teaches concepts well. If you do your work on time and come to class prepared, do the homework, you can easily get a B. Tests are semi difficult but test reviews are nearly exact match to tests, and he has tons of videos for you to practice and review with. Overall best math teacher i have ever had.
The GOAT
I had Dr. Taylor for calc 1, 2, and 3. He is an amazing professor who sets you up for success if you go to his lectures. Even during his office hours, Dr. Taylor is always willing to work with students.
Dr. Taylor is the best instructor I have had at Charlotte, and I would rate him 7 out of 5 if I could. Lectures are incredibly entertaining, he takes the material seriously, and he is always willing to help his students better understand topics. Calculus I moves fast, but his teaching style greatly helped me keep up. Phenomenal professor!
John Taylor is a fantastic math teacher. His videos and lectures are so well put together and easy to follow along with. He does a great job at breaking down tough subjects into more understandable material. Attendance is basically required however, as each lecture covers a different section. There's lots of homework, but plenty of time for it all.
do not take this class if you can't handle a fast pace course. it's hard to get a hold of the teacher outside of class
the professor is good at teaching, but be careful of the random curveballs on the tests
you can't cruise through this course without keeping up with the notes
John Taylor explains topics so well, I definitely recommend him
you would expect him to be more available during office hours considering how difficult the material is
wish he was more lenient, like other professors. make sure to keep up with notes
nice professor, just wish he was more available
Best calculus teacher at the school. It's a shame they're getting rid of the problem sessions those were incredibly helpful. Dr. Taylor does a great job explaining how to do the problems in the lecture and if you were ever confused you could go back and watch the videos he has posted.
John Taylor was an extremely tough professor, probably one of the toughest professors I've ever taken. There's a reason he's so well loved in the school. His lectures make sense and the class is set up in a way where, if you do all the homework and actually practice for the test, you WILL pass. Tests are about 40% of your grade though.
Both John and Deserie Taylor are wonderful professors and made calculus very easy to understand! Took Calc 1 as a summer course and it's must more fast-paced but still very manageable.
if you want to do good in this class you MUST attend lectures. YES he is a great professor but he knows it and expects you to do better as a result. do webworks in the math learning center it will save you heart ache. This is a harder class but not the worst.
Dr. Taylor's Calc 1 class is tough but manageable. Staying on top of the work and attending lectures are key. Unstuck Study AI was a game-changer for me - it really helped solidify the concepts.
Very good professor with a great way of explaining material. He makes sure to communicate with students the best he can whilst having so many. Also at moments he can be very funny to liven the class mood.
best math professor ever, explains all topics and answers questions, has videos for all his lectures, posts him going over test review and goes over it in class. take this class if it's open
I don't even go to Charlotte, I'm a student at NCSU. I took calc in high school and then in college and both times I would watch and follow Taylor's textbook/ videos. Fantastic professor.
When I first attempted Calculus 2 with a different professor I was struggling with a D. Thanks to Dr. Taylor's teaching and generous grading policies I was able to retake it and get a B+. As long as you attend class you will do just fine!
John Taylor was a magnificent mathematics teacher, he truly helped me find the joy in learning mathematics. As long as you do the work and show up to the lectures you will definitely pass the class. Overall great teacher 100% would recommend.
Attendance is required but he's an incredible professor and breaks the concepts down well making them easy to learn. There's a quite a bit of homework but thats made by the department for every class and if theres any particularly bad problem that he knows about he'll tell you about it
Great professor and great at helping students understand course content. Everything is based on textbook and his YouTube channel so even if you miss class there is always a chance to catch back up. Course is very test heavy, but everything is covered in class so you understand what you are expected to know. Lots of studying but excellent professor!
If you remember most of calculus I & II, calculus III is actually much easier. The concepts are way more confusing and harder to wrap your brain around at first, but the math is way nicer. Once you do figure it out, it's much easier than calc II. Only used simple integrals/derivs on tests to focus on new topics. Summary: Calculus III is 3D math
My GOAT John Taylor. Warrior against the math department, father of many, and champion of UNCC!!!! This class was truly an enlightening experience. I wish we had clones of this man for every single class. Truly a Nobel Peace Prize, Oscars, and Medal of Honor worthy service. 🔥🔥🔥👊👊👊😎😎😎🥹🥹🥹
The best math professor at UNCC and it isn't close. Professor Taylor's teaching makes you feel like you can learn anything under the sun. Mandatory attendance and a decent amount of homework, but it is all worthwhile. The only thing I will say is that the final exam is substantially harder than his section tests, so prepare for that.
John Taylor is amazing! He does an amazing job of getting the information out clearly. He gives no surprises when it comes to his class, everything that was on the exam was something he went over thorough. He keeps the class entertaining, and he is one of the few professors that truly care about his students.
It's a really hard class. Take Dr. Taylor or his wife or you'll really be struggling. Dr. Taylor isn't bubbly or cheerful and gets to the point very quickly but it's necessary for this class. He knows what he is talking about and explains it well. If you're someone who doesn't usually have to study for tests, get ready to study for these.
The guided notebook he gives is so helpful. He gives a good amount of homework and it's normally due before class or on Sunday's so it can make your Sunday's pretty packed, but you should be able to get them done earlier in the week, there is +5 extra credit to the assignments if you do them before Friday. Great professor for a really hard class.
bro is goated, nuff said. love you johnny 😘
Fall 2024: Dr. Taylor is one of the best professors! He uses his own guided notebook, which helps you understand the information better. He also wants you to pass! The homework and quizzes have extra credit benefits if you do them before a certain date and the test are very similar to the review, so make sure you do them as many times as you can.
Professor Taylor is passionate about teaching math. The organization and large practice material work to help you understand the difficult concepts in Calc 2. The only blunder was the time crunch at the end of the semester. Doing applications, series, and review all at once is stressful, but achievable. Complete the WebAssigns and you will do fine!
Dr. Taylor is the man for Calc II. The content is difficult, but he explains it well and provides ample resources if you get stuck. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities. The only downside of his class is he gave two additional quizzes and two projects that other Calc II classes did not have to complete. Overall, a great professor.
He's the GOAT. That's all I can really say. Practice the WebAssign and Test Reviews, and you'll get an A.
Just finished the accelerated summer class for 3163. It was done in an asynchronous manner in which you watch pre recorded videos on your own time. Majority of the exam problems are similar to the problems you work in your homework or in the lecture problems. Basically, if you're able to complete the homework you should pass. 10/10 would take again
I got a B in calc 1 so I wasn't fearful going into calc 2. Dr. Taylor made me feel like I knew nothing. I'm sure his teaching style is good for some but i simply couldn't keep up. I put many hours into studying and even watched all his videos + YouTube. Nothing worked. I never had over a 50% in his class and ended up falling. Good luck >:(
This guy is the goat. Had him for calc 2. Moves through his lectures sorta quick but he has plenty of videos for you to watch if needed. Lost my TI-84 and dude just gave me one for free. I wish he could teach me physics too.
Dr. Taylor is the best!!! Though calc 2 is a tough course he makes it entertaining and engaging. He is clear that if you skip class you won't pass because it is fast paced but if you do your home works 48hrs before the due date you get auto extra credit. He is a teacher that cares and wants you to do your best and pass. If you can, take his class!
He is the best teacher!! Though calc 2 is a hard course, he makes the lectures entertaining and engaging. He actually wants you to pass and learn and is available for you. He also gives extra credit to homeworks turned in 48hrs before the due date and gives you multiple attempts on his before class quizzes. 10/10 totally recommend!!
He covered the calculus subject for University freshmen, very well, almost everything, that should be learned is in his syllabus, and he is a professor, that did not miss any part of his syllabus.
Great lecturer, but very heavy on test. Test are worth 50% of your grade, he doesnt curve or give many options for extra credit. Test are slightly harder compared to other professors. He does have videos for lecture so if you happen to miss you'll be fine, but attendnace is mandatory.
Great professor! Communicates very nicely and explains straight forward and to the point.
NOW WAIT! I did not actually take his class, but I took AP Calculus AB and BC in highschool and his online lectures helped me so much, I got an A in that class cause of him, he is my goat.
A great professor. The guided notebook is the best part of the class. Dr. Taylor is also pretty funny. As long as you do the work on time, you should be fine, even though there is a lot of material to cover.
Its calc 2 and its hard. He cares and wants you to pass but if you cant put the work in your gonna fail.
Incredible professor, clearly cares about his students passing with a high grade. If you've ever considered yourself bad at math, take him. Fast-paced style of teaching requires constant engagement with the material throughout class, so be prepared to give it your best effort. Tests make up the vast majority of the grade, so prepare well for them.
i failed but hes the goat. take it.
an amazing professor; lectures will have you laughing, and finds a nice way to tie it into the material. He is a strict professor, but his lectures are incredibly clear. Warning: attendance is mandatory(being >10mins late will mark you as absent). Don't be late or skip!! His male TA was p passive aggressive but the prof is very generous. Take him!
Dr. Taylor is very good at teaching, and his lectures are awesome. Calc 2 is a very difficult course, so be prepared to study and go to every lecture. I would say that tests 1 and 2 are the hardest. The only complaint I have is that he is very blunt, and if the class average is not good on a test, be prepared for him to talk about it.
