Took him for BIO 1, I believe this was his first year teaching, so he was all over the place. He's a great guy, but the test are CRAZY tough, zero homework, and lectures drag. He curves like crazy though, and really tries. I wish his class criteria was clearer. I struggled through this entire class. Pop QuizzesExtra Credit, So go to class.
does it the way it SHOULD be done! truly Admirable, highly intellectual, his passion & excitement about the subject is quite palpable. I would love to sit for hours and listen to him talk. Knowledgable, highly informative, doesn't sound scripted at all! Only students that have the same neural brain wave length will get it.I'M STILL IN HIS CLASS :)
he asks us to make videos of certain topics, which helped at lot! that's one way to let infos stay stuck in my brain. it helped a lot prior to taking the week let tests. He is very informative, and on-point. the 1st test was my deciding-factor and i god him up front that i'll take his bio 1 class instead of the other teacher I know. admirable :)
He's a molecular endocrinologist for crying out loud! :)) heck yeah, knows what he is talking about. way better than you or anyone else can ever be. He is highly intellectual, can answer all questions like a flick of fingers. guy who got all his infos, learnings during the time where there's no internet. students now all they do is complain. NOT me
he does essay type tests, only the few and studious make it. read the chapter, print power points, record his lectures and study review at home for few hours. make individual home work videos of given topics assigned for the week for extra credit gets upset if you are late on test day.
Definitely, the kind of instructor for pre MED students, Highly organized, informative, precise, makes a tough subject enjoyable. Teaches way better than others if i may add. only the disciplined, confident, students w working neurons can grasp & imbibe his lectures. How would you feel if you're reminded that you are a college student? Act on it!
He stays a bit longer in one chapter, unable to finish the next or succeeding chapters assigned for the week, makes me feel robbed of time to learn about the other chapters. Students are left reading, studying the rest of the chapters. Tests essay type like pieces in a puzzle.
read, study each chapter before coming to class. posts powerpoint lecture on the day he will do it. his tests essay type, fill in the blank. he's not the kind of teacher that cares. no begging. people are failing.
positive metal attitude, discipline, hard work, time management in other words, maturity. got A+ in LAB, A+ in lecture and did all assigned video homework for the week. the videos aren't mandatory, only those who want to do it, for extra credits. you work for that grade. you get what you deserve. He is admirable. I would love to sit in his class.
Took A & P2 this summer 2. Passed with A+. Got my A+ in LAB, A+ in all lecture tests, A+ final lecture test. How did I do it? systematic organized study habits, resourcefulness took advantage of all source of information, knowledge and added inputs I could get, self-reliance. All hard work paid off. I would take Bio 1 with him. He deserves respect.
He does it the way it ought to be done. Explains way better than MDs. knows what he is talking about, all the twists and turns, can answer questions related to the topic, sharp, quick like a flick of fingers. He is that good! Excellent teacher A+in my book. read the come to class prepared, listen, record, jot down his lectures. he won't bend for U.
he gives a lot of informations, test are so difficult, essay type you have to fill in the blanks. it is very confusing and time consuming. he is strict, meticulous, highly organized, hates late comers don't come in late during test days. he gives what you deserve. no begging, no bending, you get what you've worked for. nothing more nothing less.
he is strict. very difficult class. you need to invest a lot of time, energy, effort to make it with a decent grade. DO NOT take this during summer. test are very hard but tries to pull up or curves grade. he asks homework videos assigned for the week for extra points for those who are failing
Wow. Seriously, I took A&P 2 during the summer and got an A+. He gives you all the information you need to know in powerpoints , explains in class, curves exams. one of the best prof. I have taken extremely knowledgeable and shares the info. The only way you wont pass this class is if you turn in an empty scantron. Take him you wont regret it.
got my A+ is all i say! if you can't hack it, you can continue whining! ask yourself, do you have what it takes to do it? he is amaze balls! outstanding professor, never had one like him in my entire school life. would love to sit in his class and listen to him talk, teach, joke around and just see him all wrapped up in the topic. :)
took A & P 2 with him summer 2. my only wish was i had more time to learn, imbibe all the informations. He is an excellent professor. A+++ in my book. by far, the most outstanding, dedicated, adorable teacher I've ever encountered. Explains way better than MDs and doesn't make you feel unwelcome or you're just waiting his time Truly glad I met him
weird essay type tests, you need to have a photographic memory to recall every tiny bit of informations in the book. he gave lots of stuffs in the lecture but he would choose a few bits in the book. you need the book to pass dot rely on anything except that
he tries to help students who have failed the tests by curving the test results and assigning homework videos of certain topics which will help with the final course grade, this videos are optional, only for those who want to. Many skipped his class, he says attendance is mandatory but won't take attendance but he knows who attends his lectures.
He spent 5 days on one chapter which meant less time to discuss the succeeding chapters the. We had the weekly test. Strict and will say it to yah the way he means it so be ready for that. Essay test with missing key words there's multiple choices for that missing words. Take his class if you are an A student. makes it way harder than it should be
Hard subject to do with such a short amount of time. Tests were harder to pass because it isn't the kind of text questioning we all are used to. gives awesome lectures, I recorded most of it, watched and transcribe all videos he uploaded on blackboard, read & studied the book everyday. Got A+ Lab, A + lecture. After class, I slept for days & days
he's my kind of professor. excellent and thorough. :) he has set the bar higher than anyone in Biology department, really glad I had him for A & P class. would love to take his other classes. boring is not the word to describe this teacher. He is straightforward, knows how to explain and site examples. knows the topic like the back of his hand
He helps students by curving test grades, assigning homework videos. What you get is what you deserve. Get your ducks all in line and you'll make it.
took A & P 2 Summer class, the final exam was really awful with all the chapters to review. He gave loads of informations and study review which was too much
We were 5 in lab group. Only one passed and made it. Don't take the course during summer, take it during Spring or Fall, you need more time to read, study, review and recall all given study materials. He helps students but won't give extra points on final course grade. What you reap is what you sow. Study ahead of time.
He clearly was enjoying teaching the course, stayed too long on 1 chapter. Had so much fun teaching endocrinology and female reproductive system. Print the PowerPoints, read the book several times, do homework, don't miss class and study ahead.
clearly very knowledgeable but over kills the class by giving too much informations, making it way harder than it supposed to be. even mentioned he knows & doesn't expect anyone to get perfect score in his tests coz he makes them way harder. Final exam,he even said he asked his colleagues re: test questions & they told him it's too much.
A lot of students dropped the class on the first week, now that says a lot. Lab class was almost empty. Felt weird.
He doesn't have online homework or SI tutorial sessions which I liked, it gave me more time to read the book, study his lectures and do the weekly assigned video which was for extra credits. You need to be well versed with the topics to pass the essay type tests. Do not be scared by it, it shows who really are studying.
He seems very tough, strict, intimidating be and strict but if you approach him, he is very attentive, direct and straight forward. He will advice and encourage you to pass the course, gives tips on how to do it, will even try to compute your grade. Email or visit him in his office. Show your face and make him know you.
strict but fair, doesn't favor anyone or have any favoritism at all. I've witnessed how he silenced one rude arrogant showy girl that was seated in front who was bragging how she gets great test results. He was talking to the entire class when she butted in,he said shut up I'm not talking to you! He was telling the rest how to pull up their grades
I'd rather be in his class than be with someone who doesn't know how to teach. He speaks clearly and gives added inputs that aren't in the book. He doesn't read from the PowerPoint he knows what he is talking about. He can even teach with out the lecture guides. It was difficult because of time constrains that's all
He gives a lot of study materials but wouldn't appear in the weekly tests. The final exam is the hardest of all because it's comprehensive. Study hard! He gives an essay type test with multiple choices. You can't just make a guess tinfoil in the test questions or missing words.
Read in advance. make notes or print out the PowerPoint lectures. He is knowledgeable but won't spoon feed anyone. Was confused during one of his tests, he saw me, approached said we can all ask him anything for clarification during the test " use & abuse" him, but he made me more confused I lost 4 points because of that. Do it on your own.
Don't dare cheat, If you don't want Dr. Trant to rant! He is an effective instructor, doesn't sound scripted or bookish at all, he gives extra informations that aren't stated in the text book.
he is an awesome teacher. worth all the energy, effort, time and money. it was a very difficult course to pass in less than 5 weeks. took its summer 2015, but i can say that it is all worth it. i would rather have him than the ANA1 instructor we had during summer 1. he is worth all the penny you spend for school. tests were really hard though
Class was really difficult if you're unfamiliar with human anatomy and physiology. He makes it way harder by giving a difficult way of testings, essay type questions. Not what we all have been used to. He said he makes it harder that way because he doesn't want anyone getting a perfect score I. His tests. He's the only one who should know the topic
I couldn't get in this Fall, I had to wait a full semester to get in his class. He is my kind of instructor. Straightforward and inspiring. Attending his lectures and knowing that I'd be learning more from him than what's written in the book Gave me the extra push to move forward on days when I felt physically low. Be inspired and aim high!
He doesn't read or even look at his lectures, knows the subject matter by heart. He can say it to you from start to finish. I was always in awe whenever I was in his lectures. In all the years I've taken classes, I've never encountered a teacher like him, to think it was his first time to teach the subject. nice, prudent approachable, attentive.
he is one funny guy, a little bit all over the place but its completely understandable he is an endocrinologist for goodness sakes Dr Trant is there but you have to be willing to go to his office hours if you want full clarity over the lectures you're going to have to read the textbook
He expects more from his students. Take him if you're determined to succeed and be someone in society. Hard core class, so worth my time, money and effort! Not for whiny, happy-go-lucky, I don't care attitude students. Beware he will fail and report you if you cheat in his class.
This was his first year teaching after stepping down from being a dean. You must read BEFORE class, or you WILL be confused.
He's definitely the better lecturer in the bio department. Clear and gives great examples. Funny and inspiring.
Lectures seems so long, he goes on and on! But he surely knows his stuff! Very nice professor. Very helpful only if you ask, don't be shy! Test are mostly book based but part are from lecture. Gives his PowerPoint notes to students. CAN'T just skim through chapters to pass but overall good class.
John M. Trant is an amazing professor and very passionate towards what he teaches. Be sure to ask him questions if you ever get confused! He has 4 tests followed by the final, you're given the option to receive extra credit if you submit a video before every test.
The lectures can be confusing. Learned mainly from the book.
He gives a lot of informations and goes on and on and on. Test are horribly difficult, you need to read and study the chapters prior to going to his class.
Couldn't sleep night prior to the final exam, took 2 glasses of wine still couldn't relax and sleep. Next day, took the exam with a pounding headache. Glad I passed it. Overall, I got A plus in lab and A plus in lecture. Just read, understand what you're reading. Study well. Glad I took his class
No online homeworks, no tutorial. He knows what to teach without making the lecture redundant and too long. Extra credits are taken from videos of certain topics, but these are optional, if you want to don't want to do it or have no time or effort to do it, your choice. Tests are essay type
he is an old-schooled instructor. expects you all are responsible, focused students who want to move forward and succeed in life. he failed all my seat meats, failed all cheaters and won't think twice to fail anyone who doesn't perform and give what it takes. the home videos he asks aren't mandatory but for extra credits. strict but fair
Took his A & P 2 class , it is the exact opposite of my A and P 1 class lecturer. The difference is night and day. He knows what he's doing . Doesn't read the power points. Do not be scared of his essay type tests. I Would be glad, excited and grateful to sit in his classes if I could. I learned a lot from him.
he doesn't have online HW, SI tutorial sessions, extra credits comes from home made videos of certain topics. curves test results. the only time you'd get a zero in a test if you hand in a blank scantron. easy to talk to, will listen to you, straightforward no BS.
if you are a straight as an arrow A student, take him. if not go get someone else.
Wish he prepared proper lecture guides like power points. Attendance is a must. Come to class prepared or you'd be lost
Textbooks is a must. Lectures can be very confusing. Read the assigned chapter before going to class, make notes & study. He gives videos of certain topics, that's all. No study guides, no SI tutorials to help out.
First day of class he said he makes the rest so difficult he makes sure that no one will get a perfect score. Quizzes everyday.
Very very hard tests. It seems as if he doesn't want any student to pass. With the way he makes the test no spacing, confusing and very tricky! He curves test results because literally everyone fails Quizzes everyday
The first test was awfully hard! Everybody failed it he mentioned all sections didn't pass, he curved the test results because like I said all didn't get decent test scores. He could have at least made the test questions less daunting by putting the matching type choices below the blank lines.
Be warned. DO NOT take him! Even if I don't sleep and just study for his tests and quizzes there's no way I'll make the grade the grade I need and work for!
First test he said the average was a C, and after he curved the test result the highest only came to B. He kept saying he makes the test so hard and he doesn't expect anyone to get a perfect score. Weird test, confusing format. Totally made a mistake taking his class. Wasted my money
Textbook use is a must, he doesn't have PPS. No help because there's no SI tutorial sessions. No extra credits from connect online homeworks, no extra credits either. It's all you!
He is all over the place. Lectures and book chapters still won't make you pass. Says he curves grades because he knows nobody gets a good grade on his exams. No assignments, extra credit isn't even worth it. Unless you can learn biology by confusing lectures, and no notes, don't take him.
Saying he makes the tests utterly difficult that no one has ever made a 100 seems to me as if he doesn't want students to make it let alone pass the course. time & time again he has proven how awfully selfish he is! With the way we all are doing I. His lecture class, even if you get A+ in lab class there's no way we will even make a decent grade!
Study everyday, even if you have other subjects to take and study. He doesn't say what will come up on the test or quizzes. He doesn't give reviews. No powerpoints, no extra credits from SI sessions, no connect homeworks. No vocabulary or study guides.
Stingy with help. PPS aren't really PPS. He gives quizzes at the start of class for grades and attendance. If U come in late, u missed the quiz and U are marked absent. Too late now to transfer to another lecturer. Thinking of dropping the class. Water my hard earned money
Tests are extremely difficult. He said before our 2nd test that even his honors students are not doing good either. Too many informations to keep in mind and the test format is horrible
He obviously knows the materials like the back of his hand, but he does it in such a very faced paced without thinking that majority of his students are freshmen and most aren't biology majors. His tests are extremely difficult because of the way it is formatted. To be honest I think students should think twice in taking his classes.
His tests are extremely difficult in the sense that it isn't formatted the conventional way. If you don't know the or uncertain about the answer for the 1st question there's no way you will get the correct answers to the next ones. He curves test results because people are doing insanely poor and having such a struggle. ineffective teacher
He doesn't care if students are failing or having such a hard time coping with his way of teaching or how he gives tests. He seemed quite glad happy and proud to announce that even his honors students got horrible test results. He shouldn't be teaching at all. Teach for others to learn, not be there to gloat!
He makes it way harder than it's supposed to be with the way he makes the test questions! He's so selfish and uncaring the most selfish teacher and grader there is!
He talks and lectures really fast. It's kinda confusing with the amount I have to read, study & understand. The lectures are amazing but in the middle of it I feel so lost. He just goes on and on and on. I'm hesitant to ask if he can repeat what he said because he just looks so strict. Thinking of dropping the class tho
Tests are horribly tough to pass because it isn't the usual multiple choice pattern. It's essay type and if you do not know or unsure of the answer to the previous question there is no way in this green earth you will get the correct answer to the next questions. It is made in a way to give you a massive headache after taking it.
I am literally struggling to pass this course. Tests are really hard, too much informations to read, study, understand and remember. He doesn't give any extra credits from online HW or LAC study sessions like other biology instructors. Tests is essay type with filling in blanks multiple choice type. He breezes through topics really quick.
Online Quiz start of classgiven almost every single class meeting, that's 10% of the final grade. Arrive late you have missed the quiz and will be marked absent. Respect other peoples time. Essay type test with multiple choice, really difficult to pass. Amazing lectures, read and study before coming to class, record his lectures.
He's strict and won't bend for anyone. Lectures are clear and conscience. Make your own notes based on his Powerpoints. 3 Tests and 1 comprehensive final exam, very hard to pass because of the way it is made. Essay type tests. Quizzes and attendance are graded too. HW video are optional but that constitutes almost 2 % of the final grade.
Tests are horribly difficult. No extra help given except the homework video you submit before the test, 4 points added to test result if you make and submit the video.
Gives 5 tests, curves tests but not by much. (5-7 points) Tests are pretty difficult so I recommend doing extra credit videos. I recommend going to every lecture because he uses his examples . Good luck
tests are really difficult, no kidding about it! tough tough test giver, tough grader. i regretted taking his class. wasted all energy, saved hard earned money. had i known how difficult he makes his tests by how he makes it, i would have chosen another lecturer, seriously!
He isn't bookish, you can use any gen bio book, google or YouTube or any study resources you have. He is really an awesome lecturer but tests are too darn hard to pass! Curves tests coz we all weren't making it. HW video for extra credits that's almost 2 percent of the final grade not much though
You really have to study for this class no doubt. Only four test so if you do terrible in one, good luck. The only extra credit that he gives is to make a 3 minute video over the topic of the test.
His lectures are really quite outstanding but the test are horribly difficult! There is no way one will ever get a perfect score in one of those test because of how it's formatted. It was absolutely disappointing because I truly enjoyed sitting there, listening to him talk about the subject matter. Tests gave me a massive headache!
The class is a challenge. He's an excellent teacher who is willing to help you if you don't understand something. Don't be afraid to raise your hand. Quizzes are not that bad. Tests are difficult, but not impossible. For the final test, you should really go over PowerPoints. Your best study guide for the final are the tests.
His lectures are worth THE money! Awesome lecturer but a very tough grader! Essay type tests were confusing and really hard! Overall, he knows what he's talking about, speaks with a loud, clear voice. He's glad to repeat whatever u do not hear well or understand. Encourages students to ask him questions during and after lectures. Very welcoming
Trant is a good man, but not the best professor to understand or truly learn from. Many people struggled just to coherently make sense of his lectures. He is confusing, and he will only provide slides and videos to learn from. No study guides, no homework questions, no reviews. Many people gave up on his class. His tests are long and often hard.
Don't ever miss class if you want to do well. He has quizzes on some days for a grade. The tests can be challenging but he does curve them and gives you a video extra credit (4 pts on exam). He will not test everything in the chapters from the textbook, just the topics covered in lectures. He will do anything to help, don't be afraid of him.
He's an excellent professor. If you sit in the front and record his lectures, go back & listen to them, WRITE THE LECTURES DOWN (the important stuff), & go back & listen YOU WILL PASS HIS EXAMS. If you have problems understanding the material, go visit him during his hours, HE REALLY HELPS! His tests are story-formatted so you need to know marerial
Took him for Gen Bio I, and he was all over the place during lecture. I mean it was interesting, but half the stuff he said wasn't applicable on the test. Only passed because I'd learned most of the material in my HS A&P class .. & of course the HOURS & HOURS studying.
Dr. Trant is a nice instructor and cares for his students. He wants the students to learn the lecture, that is why he makes his tests challenging. If you want to pass this class you really need to dedicate time to it. Tests are in an essay format, he does give a curve on tests and 3 extra points on each test if you do a video.
Outstanding lecturer! Full respect for the guy. Essay type test with matching type choices. Read the assigned chapters before going to class, Record his lectures, and study. He doesn't have extra work added on you. Clear lectures. Make the assigned home videos for extra credits.
My kind of lecturer :)) worth the money baby!
Very enthusiastic in his lectures. Has quizzes that are extremely hard. Tests are essay based multiple choice. There's a curve for the tests. You have opportunities to get 3 extra credit points by making a video for each test. The only reason I did well was because of Khan's Academy. You really need to study!
Very enthusiastic and hilarious man. Great lecturer. Be prepared to do ALOT or studying, his tests are challenging but if you put in commitment you'll pass the course. He is open to any questions you may have and is willing to help his students in any way possible.
GREAT PROFESSOR!He's a really kind of professor. tries his best to make sure everyone passes and understands the material. puts the material into relatable terms and uses real life examples so its very easy to understand. Quizzes are hard but they are a very small percentage of your grade, offers extra credit, and curves the main tests!!
Can you cheat on his tests? Someone respond who already took him
Great teacher, really cares for his students. The class is pretty hard, but you can make it if you study. He will help you out if you need assistance with anything.
My instructor in the BIO department! Awesome lectures. He really knows the subject matter like the back of his hand. Speaks loudly and with Clear accent. He needs to slow down a bit though coz he speaks really fast. Overall He is an A+ lecturer. No added works all you have to do is read and understand the subject.
He's a great guy, his classes are not the best (science) but he makes them better, he likes to joke around and is aways in a great mood. HE CURVES TEST GRADES.
Confusing and really hard to understand, asked for help but made things more confusing. You really have to study for this class. If it wasnt for the pop quizzes then the class wouldnt be this difficult
This professor was by far one of the most enthusiastic profs Ive had in a while. He expects you to study at least 9 hours outside of class every week so get ready to read. Dont underestimate the content take advantage of meeting him outside of class.
Tbh, I thought his teaching was confusing. The tests are structured as a story on each topic and in the story, it's fill in the blank with multiple choice options. The final is cumulative. 3 tests & 1 final Grade. He takes attendance sometimes. If you do his video assignment he adds 5 points, if you don't you lose 2 points in your test(s).
He knows his stuff, ask him anything he'll have an answer. However, the lectures are extremely confusing. His powerpoints barely give any information and his 'review' guides are not helpful. The only reason I attended the lecture was because of the daily pop quizzes, other than that learned everything on my own. Tests hard but he CURVES them.
everything on here is true, hes very smart, not an easy A, his tests look like a huge essay story telling based test that are fill in the blank, hes nice and cool but tests are crazy hard, I recommend you record the lectures and type then out and maybe youll pass the exams. he curves them hard, if u get a 40 hell give u a 60 if you get an 80100
Took him for Biology. He is a good teacher but if you do not have a good background of Bio do not take him. Barely passed the class trying my best to study and be there listening to him. Heavy lectures, he talks the whole time and the funny thing is that he has good examples sometimes with real toys and students.
Taking Trant for Gen Bio I was the best decision I made as a freshman in college. He truly loves the subject and you can tell he genuinely wants you to learn. He's a flexible proffesor, very open to suggestions on how he can improve. ATTEND LECTURE! He has occasional pop quizzes. The extra credit videos really do help. You don't need the textbook.
His class is fine. He teaches like if the class is a refresher. I suggest studying before going to class. His tests are fine, just study the PowerPoint topics. He gives a huge curve so your grades should be OK. Go to class because he gives quizzes, which are specific. He's OK man, but super stubborn so let him know about problems right after class
His lecture are very out-going. He will answer all your questions via email/person. He works with your schedule if you need to see him. He doesn't require a textbook but he does use tophat which has a book (gliched out), videos/peer reviews about a certain topic, and the test are easy if you study, gives curves and has downloadable powerpoints.
He is okay. Much better than the other Bio professors though. If you are not a science major, do not take any Biology courses. Stick to Astronomy 1 and 2. Do not make my mistake.
If science isnt your strongest subject, do NOT take this professor. This dude made us pay 100 some for a program we didnt even use and made us do videos on the material. Every week or so. I found myself having to teach myself the material until i gave up. Super unorganized. i was this close to dropping out because of this class
Dr. Trant is a very forgiving professor and a great lecturer. Majority of the grade comes from videos, and as long as you submit the assigned videos, you get the A for the video grade. Tests were fill in the blank paragraphs and were easy if you know the general steps and he tells what are important to know. Dr. Trant is also a wonderful person
The MOST OUTSTANDING lecturer in the Biology department. Complete and utter admiration and respect for him. He knows the subject like tha back of his hand. He can lecture without any powerpoints. Record his lectures, and dont skip classes. Gives extra credits.
Dr. Trant is so knowledgeable and relays the information very well. Attendance is taken at the beginning of class. Videos are 30% of overall grade and submitting a video automatically gives you a 90%. You need to read and do well in the lab. Tests are difficult but the curve really helped.
Trant is a very good professor. I had him over the summer so the workload was a lot but he made it manageable. He likes to keep the class engaged and is very into his lectures (which is not a well known trait of professors). Attendance is mandatory as his test covers what he says in lecture. I did not use the book once, so it is not really needed.
Overall I had a good experience taking Dr. Trant. Lectures were huge and confusing, but all sorts of examples are given to get a better understanding. Video assignments is basically your only homework for this course, so be prepared. Quizzes are jammed pack with all sorts of information. Consider studying weeks in advance.
Hes really funny and cool
Lectures are boring! He tries to make it fun by bringing these blocks and using them as models for things discussed in class but it really doesnt help at all. I was lost pretty much the entire time he lectured. I had to learn pretty much everything on my own and by going to the learning center. I dont recommend taking him at all.
Honestly a difficult class, but gives curves. You NEED to study. Many freshman take this class and fail badly because they just refuse to. It's a lot of material but nothing crazy. Attendance weighs as much as an exam so a 100% can save you in the end. SHOW. UP. TO. CLASS. Funny guy and cares about the students.
Go to class! Sometimes gives extra "point" for attendance if you miss another class, only if he notices a lot of people leaving early. Make sure to do all his videos correctly, if you miss one, there's an extra one for you to do to make up for it. Try to score at least a C on the exams because he curves them. Apart from that, do well in the lab.
I LOVED his class, he has by far been one of my favorite professors. The way he teaches is very efficient, & you definitely learn a lot. He uses TopHat for everything, (tests, lecture notes, attendance, & videos), 25% of your grade is based on 3-5 minute videos you create for a lesson, super easy, 4 tests in total. Very accessible and hilarious.
Attendance is mandatory because he uses TopHat to do that. He provided a textbook for us and the only thing we had to purchase was TopHat. We had 10 homeworks which are the videos of you explaining. He also rounded all of our tests. He knows what he is talking about and makes lectures fun and interesting.
Honestly, it's a shame that lots of students will see him as a harsh professor, but he is probably the nicest professor ever. He clearly showcases his love for Biology to his students. If you are one of the one percent of students that actually tries and isn't dumb at UTRGV then take this class, you will learn a lot. Advice: Go to a different Uni.
I had to take him online due to Covid, so the entire class was online. I would definitely NOT recommend taking him while covid restrictions are in place. The only assignments are weekly vid presentation assignments, that he gives no feedback on and is graded very harshly and weekly tests. Videos and tests. Unless u want to risk ur GPA,dont take him
Overall the course taught me a lot, but it was very disorganized. The tests are a majority of your grade, along with videos that you film. The material is not easy but he does his best at explaining it, and does want the best for his students.
His lectures are very heavy, he does give video assignments which are for participation, they are very easy. His test are very tricky and hard. You need to make sure that you understand the material very well. If not, you'll fail his tests. It was an average class, he answers fast depending of the time of the semester, he curves some tests.
It's a great class- if you do the work u will pass Top hat (online program) mostly reading and for study purposes view the professors lecture videos -which he tells you what to study for) present the 10 videos and an extra credit one and review your peers videos - 6 exams -no quizzes- just keep up study keep up with your labs (25% of grade)
I had to take Professor Trant online because of the pandemic. Personally, out of all my professors he handled transferring to online classes the best. He really cares about his students as he gives so much extra credit opportunities. His test are 100% from lectures, but do not worry his lectures have so much effort and detail in them. Great teacher
Dr. Trant teaches asynchronous. You need Tophat for his class because he will ask for you to post videos after each lecture of you reviewing the information. His lectures are very detailed. No quizzes. Tests are after each unit because it is a lot of important information, this makes it easier for you. If you put in the work you will do good.
I loved Professor Trant's class. This was taken during the pandemic Fall 2020. He was a little hard to receive feedback from but he did have 300 students in his class so I get it. He gives really good lectures. Homework is a video assignment of you talking about certain topics he assigns. Easy A.
Professor Trant is a really good professor, but it is very hard to get ahold of him through email. He has amazing lectures but the tests can be very tough and specific. Make sure you study the power-points/notes. You also have to make 10 videos of you explaining his lectures for 3+ mins, do those on time! you won't be allowed to turn them in late.
I really enjoyed his class. His lectures were clear and well explained. (baby toys were used as props so we can get a better visual). Professor Trant has a passion for the subject he teaches and genuinely cares for his students.
This class is structured to make you understand biology, Professor is very helpful and responds fast, lectures are very informational and professional, weekly video presentations and timed test take notes, and you should be good... this class was a lot of fun!
The professor is good lecturer, but you should take the class if studying for biology or biology related majors. The materials takes away a lot of time out of you because when it comes down tot the test its very specific of the process of the subject. Trying understand the generalization of the material doesn't help. The homework are self-videos
Be prepared to study over the weekend while taking this course, and if you're not in biology related majors, I've think its best to take this course in summer. There are weekly self video uploads to topHat. The website takes a while to upload, so try to sent out the recording day before the due date. The video uploads sometimes takes up hours.
I really enjoyed Dr. Trant's class. Biology isn't meant to be easy and the grade will not come to you on a silver platter. Studying is extremely important in this class, but thankfully video assignments are designed to help students understand material better. The lectures are very insightful, fun, and engaging. Trant is one of the best professors!
Powerpoints are bare and won't help. Expects you to be present and pay attention. Rambles all over the place and is a bit obsessive about sex. Makes you film videos of yourself explaining topics and grades them harshly. Tests are in "story format." Does genuinely want you to ask him questions and contact him. Stay away if you can!!
Trant was okay. You do need to study ALOT for the exams but the video assignments help a lot. Assignments were on top hat, consists of 10 vids and 3 tests and final. Lecture vids on top hat helped a lot since I would get lost sometimes when he would lecture in person. But really just STUDY A LOT for the exams. Not an easy A.
If you are not a science/biology major just like I am, please do not bother to take this course with him. It was very difficult to understand as he assumed we have previous knowledge of the topics. The video assignment that we had to complete on Top Hat was self-graded, meaning you may get high grades or low grades based on the platform.
Yes this class is extremely detailed and extensive-I recommended to read the chapter and take notes on it before each lecture in order to not get lost. He was awesome and provides ALOT of information through videos, recorded lectures, and powerpoints. I wish I took it alone, my grade suffered due to the class not having my full focus.
This class is not an easy class if you do not study. The recorded lectures on TopHat were very helpful for me when I didn't understand a topic. It is not an easy class but Dr. Trant does curve his exams which helped my grade a lot. He really is a kind professor but you have to work for your grade. I would take him again if I needed to.
I really liked taking this class. He has his lectures prerecorded and posted, so I recommend listening to the lecture before coming to class. The assignments consisted of the student explaining a concept via a video, so I highly recommend really studying the concept and understanding it fully before recording. TopHat's used for everything.
Dr. Trant is an amazing professor! He truly cares about his students and helping them understand the concept. I recommend going over his prerecorded lectures before going to class. Also, do the TopHat video assignments. It really does help you understand the concepts better (if you actually put effort into the videos).
This is not an easy class; YOU NEED TO STUDY! Dr. Trant is very passionate about his lectures! He's a great man and such an understanding individual. I recommend him :)
I took Dr Trant for Bio Comm (I can't add that as the course). He is a funny, inspirational professor who really cares about his subject. Dr. Trant made it a manageable semester. You will have to write, present, and work in groups at times. I have come to respect him for all his knowledge and his desire to train the next generation of students.
This class is a lot of information and you will fail his exams if you don't study. He does curve and is strict with attendance. Take good notes because exams are lecture based. We had weekly quizzes and used TopHat which was about $25 for the semester. If you're not familiar with biology you will likely need outside resources.
Dr. Trant is passionate about his lectures is very funny. He usually has toys to show what he's talking about and will demonstrate with scenarios. He covers a ton of topics per lecture, so you will have to read beforehand. If not, you will be lost. Attendance is mandatory. It will count for your final grade. You will have to buy TopHat.
RUN! If you are not a Bio major-run. This class is extremely difficult. And you have to purchase a platform for about $50. Avoid class.
