This is his first year at Skyline. He is kinda weird. You have to participate in class. 200 points is for participation. If you are the person that doesn't like to talk he class, you shouldn't take him!
John Ulloa is an outgoing, intelligent, articulate teacher. He allows open dialogue and communication while providing positive feedback to the students. I have never been very interested in History, but he kept my attention the entire semester. It's not "lecture" all the time and his expectations for the students are realistic.
In this class, you have to participate. It's a major part of your grade. You have to be active and if you're shy, don't worry he encourages you to speak. great teacher. great class. it's not your average boring history class.
He's an interesting teacher, but I would not reccomend him if you're the type of person who is quiet and doesn't like to talk in class (participation is 200 points worth of your grade!!)
i think he's great teacher, and he makes the class entertaining. i've learned a lot from him.
John Ulloa is a very interesting teacher. He encourages you to speak. He's keeping our class very interested in History. His class is not the average boring history class. I think He's a great teacher. I really enjoy his class.
some idiot gave his a 1 on easiness just because u have to talk in class? wow that is kinda crazy. it's not that bad. u read, u talk, u contribute, no need to give him a 1. he is very fair and helpful.
John is a down-to-earth professor who helps one to get actively involved in class discussions, and he also takes his time in ensuring that his students understand exactly what he is saying. Keep doing a wonderful job!
This professor is a true scholar who also knows how to reach out and connect with his students. This is a person who loves his subject and presents it in a fair, very approachable and interesting manner. Defenitely a great experience.
A great teacher and great class. Anyone looking for an educational experience and a fun class at the same time, take this class with Ulloa. Those of you who rate a teachers ability on the crappy grades you get for slacking off, don't waste Ulloa's time.
BORING...goes off topic.. talks about his music half the time. .
Ulloa is NOT BORING!! He is one hell of an instructor who can teach. He makes sure that you understand. He is a laid back instructor who has impecable teaching skills. Dont hate because your lazy and you dont like to work for your grade, this is college, its about time you grow up.
John is an awesome teacher, discussions teach more than some lectures. It gives a better understanding of the readings. Yes, he may go off the topic but it's all about history. Ethnic studies is what we are learning and what's wrong with a little cultural study, ie music. ot only does the time pass by hella fast. Besides he is hella cute! DONT H
John is a cool teacher. HOWEVER, we barely even talk about history in class! He talks bout his own experiences and others which is BORING. Plus, he can not teach history and goes off topic all the time. AND HE IS NOT CUTE. He does not even try to connect with his students because he tends to favor students who participate which is ridiculous!
The class is okay, he's a good teacher, it's his passion, would recomend.
luv the guy, he is very understanding and genuinly wants you to do well in his class... Anyone who has a problem with him is obviously an ass...IMO
Mr. Ulloa is a great teacher. I took HIST 240 w/ Wong and dropped after the 2nd class. If you PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS & do all of the assigned work, you will be fine. He doesn't like when you talk to classmates when he is talking, so don't do it! He makes the discussions very interesting and makes learning history fun.
He tries to be intimidating and strict, but he's really not. He truly does care for attendance and really wants his students to learn and gain knowledge. He is very intellecutual and makes you think outside of the box. Participation is necessary! Tests are a bit hard.Goes off topic to talk about his experiences but it makes class more interesting.
He's great!! He has a lot of knowledge in regards to history and makes it interesting. He grabs your attention by connecting present issues with past history. I'm not a fan of history but with him as the teacher it's well worth taking the class.
One thing, I like about Mr. Ulloa, is that he treats his students equally. In his class every aspect counts, especially participation. If you like discussing all aspects of history, this is the class to take. You can't limit history. Everything is a part of history. Thanks for making our class interesting Mr. Ulloa! :)
Ulloa, is a great teacher. he makes anthro fun and interesting. the tests are hard because he gets them from a test key. he cares and loves what he does, it's contagious. it's easy to get off topic but still finds a way to make it relevant to the subject in the end. Make sure he knows your name and you opinions and you'll get a good grade

Ulloa is a terrific teacher. He makes the class fun and knowledgeable at the same time. I highly recommend him.
Ulloa was a very lax teacher over the summer, but he loves to go off topic. If you have no interest in music/cars, then you'll hate this class. If you do, then I highly recommend him! P.S. Who in their right mind gave him a chili pepper?? :)
he refuses to answer questions, he favors other students and he judges people. I would not recommend any class with him as the teacher. I didn't learn anything. he is completely concerned with the ones he likes, if you kiss his ass and bring him coffee and snacks, he likes you, good luck.
what's the problem?!? I think he's an awsome teacher. I never had the urge to sleep in class (because he was interesting and funny) and I never felt overwhelmed by the work load. I think this class is good to experience. If you go in with an open mind, a sense of humor, and common sense! you'll be fine. Ulloa rocks! <3 <3
He spent five minutes telling us not to call him "dude", then called a student "homie". Tries way too hard to be cool instead of being professional.
Talk a lot in class and he will like you. I didn't care for his class lecture, I didn't learn anything. All the learning was from the book, plus the test is based on the book. He likes to sit and stare if no one is talking. He wants people to go to class, or he'll start taking attendance.
John is a great teacher! He's a lil intimidating at first glance but after you get used to him he's a softie. He takes things that have happened in the past and try to relate them to things going on now. He's really funny and makes the class a blast to be in! I recommend taking him. He made me think in a different way which was a good thing.
he's an awesome ass teacher! gives a great understanding in what you're learning and actually makes it interesting.
A+ This guy is one of the greatest History teachers at Skyline. Believe me, i've tried taking history 4 times before. Ulloa makes the class interesting and grabs your attention. He is not lecturelecturelecture. He allows and WANTS class participation. If I had to take history or anthropology again, it would be with John Ulloa.
this guy does not know how to teach! i took him for u.s. hist and didn't learn a thing. he mostly talked about his wife and kid the whole semester and expected the class to participate in these discussions. if u want to be in a class where u learn about all about this guy's life, then take him, otherwise it's a complete waste of time!!!
He lectures, and i mean the quiz is not even according to lecture, just go to his class and i mean read the book really well. Go to his quizes and make you do a good job on the movie review
ulloa is great... i personally like his "homie" comments! :) if you wanna be lectured all day don't take his class, in his class you learn as a class. great teacher and i give him a Hot in the appearence column, sweet sleeve!
Great teacher, subject matter was highly interesting and beneficial to everyday life. Enjoyed every class for it consisted of discussions rather than lectures. I took the summer school course, I recommend highly!
Well I never thought I would ever enjoy History as I have in his class. May there be more of his kind. Look forward to my every alternate morning dose of History.
I think he is a good at teaching Anthropology, the problem is that it is a history class. You are responsible for reading and understanding the text yet the only time it is revelant is on the tests. Almost no history in this history class. What was the American revolution about? When did it happen. You won't know after this class.
His class is one of those classes where the instructor doesnt give you the information needed to pass, but little bits and pieces of the information and lets you figure out the rest. If you get it right, that's great. If you don't, that sucks. Learned alot about his life, but very little about History. 1 ch. of reading per week 30 pgs per ch.
this teacher is extremely funny!! he wil wake you up and this class is not hard a all. he's very laid back, the only thing is that he wants you to read the book, pay attention in class and PARTICIPATE!! cool guy
I learned more about the guys life then any history. he is a terrible teacher. Did not learn one thing. He grades super easy and if he doesn't like you, you will see by your grades. He is an absolutely horrible teacher. If you are reading this right now and are thinking about taking this ridiculous class... DON'T TAKE IT!!!
You basically waste hours of your life in class but you have to go in order to participate in discussion. He gave us the study guide with topics we're never discussed so I emailed him to ask if I was on the right track. He tells me I can't nor will tell you the answers! I simply asked if it was alright and guide me in the right direction if I'm not
Horrible!!! Never answers questions when you email him. Very unprofessional. Is late on getting things on his website even when he states it will be there a certain date. Always off topic and thinks he knows everything. He should never teach unless you actually WANT to waste hours of your life with him.
Ulloa claims to have a masters degree but after taking his class for 3 weeks I realized that his degree must be from Heald College. The only thing he brings to the classroom is nonesense that he carries around in his rolling briefcase. He should tattoo "I CANT TEACH" on his forehead. Stay away or else you will regret wasting your time.
His lecture is good, but the worst thing is Participation points are alot. If u can't do discussion everytime u come to class, u lose ur point. His test is based on his lecture and reading from textbook. He gives u study guide for exams, but if u don't give enough information in essay written test, he will take out a lot of points.
Pretty easy teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's HIGHLY recommended. I took advantage of the non-mandatory attendance and missed out on some very interesting/heated discussions. His tests are pretty easy and just make sure to do the reflections every week. He's a cool dude once you talk to him one on one.
Pretty easy class... come to class, participate in discussions, read the book and you should be able to pass the class easily..
I thought he was great. There's alot of reading and note taking. Students pretty much decide what will be discussed so when classes get boring, it's because no one is reading. There's essay's and there are no exams. It's a great class and he's hella cool.
good class and makes you think outside of the box. There are no homework assignments just essay's. He's hella cool and helpful. Reading is amust and so is note taking.....good class
I took his class during the summer. Very easy, just read the book and you will pass the tests. Be sure to participate!
Im one of those people who tend to hold back in talking but i actually find participaion to be very helpful because it allows all of us to engage with the materials! Sure he may go off topic and you "think" that you learn more about his life but its his way of teaching, which helps the subject make sense. The only thing difficult are the tests.
Continuing off what i what saying, you have to read the book VERY well if you want to get A's on the tests because he didnt give a study guide at this time. Pros: Makes time go by fast, helps us understand the material better, and participation. Cons: No study guide for tests, REALLY expensive book that you cant sell.
ONLINE. First 2 quizzes were really hard & several ppl complained about failing. Cuz every1 was failing he gave us pre-quizzes that had the same exact questions as the actual quiz, so there was no way you couldnt ace it. Mandatory discussion questions every week. It was obvoious that some ppl just copied some1 elses & reworded it.
his class can be a bit demanding but he will always keep it interesting. Make sure to read. He is a great teacher and very understanding. Keep up with the work and you should have a great time in class. Very humorous
He's a strict teacher. Never be late! He makes time fly in class and makes his lectures fun!His tests are cut throat though. Study the WHOLE ENTIRE book. &NO STUDY GUIDES!He applies strategies to everyday life which makes it a whole lot easier TO UNDERSTAND. He's cool!
there's no way you can't be involved in class discussions unless you're completely cut off from the world. ulloa bases his class on the socratic method of teaching. so question history, question everything.
Should not be teaching. Admitted he hated history back in High and surprised his old history teacher when he graduated as a history major. This man is angry at the world. Loves to hear his own voice and is very closed minded to students because they are all inferior in his mind. Loves to put people in their "place." His lectures wont help on tests.
He's an excellent teacher, everyone has there own style and methodology. He inspires the use of your brain and creativity. He teaches to have students teach and learn for themselves!!! All else is irrelevant. He's honest.
This professors lectures are a wast your time. The only way to pass his class is to read EVERY LAST LETTER of the book. No study guide which would be fine except he doesn't cover any test matter in his lectures. He just goes on and on about himself (most of class time spent talking about personal stories) and his views of the subject.
This class is DEFINATELY NOT easy. He never discusses any of the materials thats gonna be on the test so your best shot is reading the book and having photographic memory of EVERY letter thats on there. Easy to pass with a C or a B if youre on top of things, NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get an A if you dont have photographic memory.
this guy is the worst!! i did well in his class but would avoid like the plague. He never talks about ANYTHING relevant and he is lazy!! cancelled three classes showed three movies and gave two take home tests, wish i wouldve taken an online class
He's teaching methods are a little unorthodox compared to "Mr./Mrs. Smith" teaching, but I don't mind it, and he keeps me awake with his antics during class. Don't let his looks fool you though. He is one smart guy and you can learn a lot in his class if you're serious about it. The key to getting an A in his course is class participation and reading/understanding material.
This man is a genius, but his teaching style is like a Lewis Black comedy routine. You learn a lot, about history, and concepts of life.
He's not your average teacher. He's funny, relatable. Participation is a MUST, so come to class & share your opinions. When I first met him, he scared the crap out of me. But he's aside from that, he's a great teacher with a lot of experience as a cultural anthropologist. Take him, but like he says, you'll need more than a pulse to pass his class.
He's a good guy, little scary, but very smart and insightful! Just keep up with readings and coursework and you'll do fine!!!
I had him in a online class, so my view is based on that. The class was pretty easy but this instructor had almost no involvement in the class. The only time he posted was to tell everyone not to email him anymore (always with an exclamation point). He never got back to my questions and he was always late in posting the weeks assignments.
WAY too much work!!!!! I'm an A student and I had to drop his class because I couldn't keep up with the work load. Interesting person, but needs to tone down the requirements. If you work FT or are taking a full load, you won't survive him!
This guy freaked me out I dropped after only 2 days. He wasn't very clear on what he wanted. I was concurrently enrolled in high school when I took the class. Not a good impression to leave a high school student with....
I HONESTLY THINK HE IS A AWESOME TEACHER.HE MAY BE A LIL SCARY AT FIRST BUT YOU EVENTUALLY FIND OUT HE'S A GREAT GUY.HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT.HE IS VERY UNDERSTANDING AND WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU,YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE CURRENT WITH ALL THE READINGS HE ASSIGNS OR ELSE YOU'RE SCREWED WHEN IT COMES TIME TO WRITE THE PAPER!
He is the most arrogant and egotistical man I have met- completely unapproachable. He thinks that his class is the only one any student takes. He expected 12+ hrs/wk for his homework, entirely too much for a GE class. You must get your homework checked in outside class hours. He teaches you nothing, you must teach yourself. Save yourself the time.
This guy is a horrible teacher. He thinks he's funny and tries to clown on people. He got smart with me and i told him to stfu and i left the class. I hate this teacher! Do not take him
thank goodness this was an online class! i dont think i would be able to sit and listen to this guy speak for more than 5 minutes! He clearly loves the sound of his own voice! he posted a couple of videos of him just rambling! It seemed like he forgot about our class. He was late on posting announcements and horrible at responding to questions!
He is always late. He doesn't teach. He goes off topic 100% of the time. He makes fun of students, yet when retaliated, gets mad and dismiss them from class. Doesn't respond to emails. Overall a terrible human being.
Mr. Ulloa is an awesome teacher to have. I'll admit he does talk a lot but only because he has a lot of stories relevant to the course! The books are essential for this class because he assigns weekly readings and his essays demand that you get some info from the books. All exams are essays! He's definitely an interesting teacher to have!
Mr. Ulloa loves history, I took his course online in the summer. I like history, but I like to learn about how history shapes societies, cultures &politics more than looking into just the events, alone. He has a multifaceted approach to what I believe, is a genuine attempt to invoke a passion in us, to learn all that we can about the world.
Very good professor!! His class is always interesting and his lectures are always relevant to the topic. Don't expect to come to class and slack off, he won't have it!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
good class!!
History 310 and 201 ONLINE! EASY CLASS EVER. Just do all his discussions and easy weekly exam. EASY MIDTERM AND FINAL. BEST CLASS EVER!
Thought I'd fail, but I received an A+ thru small EC Assign. ALOT of work - Expect to be busy! Prof was non-responsive & did not provide any grading prior to final websmart entry. MUST read texts weekly. Lengthy discussion group postings w/ specific instructions in syllabus. He turns off access to old week, as new week is posted. -no late work!
Requires a lot of work. But the most annoying fact is that, the new week begins on Tuesdays, when he releases new assignments. The discussion is due the following day (wednesday) at 11:55pm. It can be kind of difficult if you're in a time crunch. Remainder of posts due Sundays. Annoyed.
Fair teacher. I liked him. Some days he seemed burned out and exhausted so we watched movies. The movies were always very relevant and he picked great ones. If you put in all the work it's an easy A. I like his personality a lot, but that doesn't mean he lets stuff slide with work.
Oh man. This class is a handful. Before class, you have to turn in a question for "participation points". Of course, he only answers a handful of it. During discussion, it's usually 85% about his life and 15% about the topic. Don't get me wrong, the guy is awesome and I love the subject. I'm just discouraged to take Anthropology anytime soon...
Ulloa has an Online Class for History and to be honest I thought it was boring at first BUT he grades fair and he lets the students roll and answer the prompts. He is fair and he emails back if you dont understand anything.. I cannt complain I got an A.Over all take his class online and just read and respond.
Wonderful teacher except his essay questions can get pretty hard. But overall great class! Hes a wonderful professor. his class is always entertaining.
I'm taking his online class right now and he is absolutely useless! I emailed him several times, but all my emails have been unanswered. His syllabus says that he'll take the highest grade from your quiz, but it still grades on an average method. So annoying! Also, he's LATE on grading. Last grade I received was from week 9, it is now week 13.
John Ulloa is the MOST unprofessional teacher I have EVER encountered. I received NO insight or guidance through the course despite requesting the request for such. I wish I had more than 350 characters to explain what HORRIBLE teacher he is!!
Avoid him if possible! He is the absolute worst professor I've had at Laney! Don't send him an email because he doesn't respond. He's late with grading and posting the weekly assignments. I don't understand how he was even hired. He really, really sucks. And yes, I'm earning a decent grade in his class. But he still sucks.
My all-time favourite history class. Unlike most instructors, he doesn't waste your time with meaningless assignments. Very accommodating as well.
Discussion posts make up almost the entire class. Professor doesn't grade assignments until the end of course; it's hard to know how you're doing overall. Also, doesn't always post assignments right away, which can make planning the week difficult. Also irritating that some assignments didn't show up and I was marked down for doing them "late".
Just do all of the homeworkquizes and the movie essay and you will do well. Easy class, but his instructions were confusing. He does not respond to emails even if it's about your grade, and grades everything last minute so you won't know your grade until it's too late. Seems like he really just does not care about his students or how well they do.
HE IS CRAZY. I had hard teachers and I still get A's and B's but his attitude is just no negative. If possible take any other teacher. Get ready for lots of reading and long papers.
The class, and your grades, are based off his mood.
Quizes are easy if you know how to take them, posts are annoyingly long, lots of issues with his ability to manage the course webpage, and never responds to e-mail.
I've taken John Ulloa a total of 3 times for 3 separate courses at Skyline College. I would have to say I've never met such a terrible teacher in my entire life. Not only does Ulloa fail to answer emails, but he is ambiguous and unhelpful. I understand he has a life outside of school, and children; however, I believe that he should be replaced soon
I took this class over the summer online class, it wasn't too bad but he doesn't respond to emails & he grades tough on forums. But do all the forums, quizzes and movie review and you will get a good grade. Im horrible at history & i still got a B so good luck ! I'm glad i got it over with , there weren't many assignments either
Took hist 201 summer online class, not great with history but his online class was mostly discussion. So as long as you did the reading for the week and definitely paid attention to his online lectures, FOLLOW FORUM GUIDELINES EXPLICITLY. There are weekly quizes and a movie review. worked out GREAT FOR ME.
Great teacher, he he's a lot of energy and can tell he enjoys teaching. He will work with you when you need help understanding something. The workload in this class is fair and he will work with you on your grade if you are borderline A or B. I definitely have respect for his teaching style and highly recommend him.
His online template is pretty solid. However, it was very difficult to get a hold of him to talk about certain aspects and he took forever grading so it was hard to tell if what you were doing was the right way of doing it. Pretty fun class despite the hick-ups.
Alright. Not an easy A or class.
If you want a professor who loves to teach and a class where you WANT to actually learn and earn an A. Take this class. He is amazing and you will learn beyond what is written in the books. Do your best work. This is a class where it's not about an A it's about what you LEARN and retain for the future! Great class and professor
Took SOSC 680SB (Cuba: Life and Culture) with John. Most amazing class and professor I've ever had. John's depth in these subjects go deeper than Jacque Cousteau. He gives a lot of papers but the work is on point and you will leave this class knowing a ton about Cuba, the USA, music in general and culture. His lectures are excellent.
Very inspirational teacher. . At first I was upset to see I would have so much homework and would actually have to TRY HARD, but this history class ended up being one of the most influential I have ever had. Great teacher, would take him again if I was still in community college. Teaching style is definitely one of a kind, definitely would reccmend
You honestly don't even need the textbook, just read from his lectures. As long as you meet the minimum requirement for the word count, you will get full credit on the discussions (which is worth a good amount). The quizzes are also pretty easy. You need to do two papers and one movie review for the class and they're worth a lot.
Great teacher! Not a tough grader but with weekly discussion forums. 3 papers include one movie reflection no mini word count. Lots of readings but subjects are easy if you have an over understanding of American history. Use webscess, the grading system is clear. Beware of due dates if you have him online.
You will not use the book. Basically, you are going to do quizzes, a movie review and discussions. He is a tough grader with discussions you need to follow his instructions. I'm sorry to tell but he is the worst professor that I've ever had I hope he can't be retired soon.
I took him for History 429 Latinos in the US. Although I read the reviews I still wanted to take the class since it is something Im interested in and I needed to fulfill this area. He seems tough but has a soft interior. Must take notes and always bring required books and syllabus every class! And keep up with the readings. I would take him again!
There is no communication with this professor. I have inquired many times about my grades and asked for feedback. I noticed that I scored low on two posting assignments and I wanted clarification in case I was not doing something right. Unfortunately, he never responds to emails, so now Im left guessing. I would avoid taking any of his classes.
Don't get me wrong, I am learning a lot of history because we read and watch videos for this course. This is an online course. I gave John a low rating because he simple DOES NOT REPLY TO STUDENTS. He has a Q&A discussion board where we can ask questions either for him/classmates to answer, but he never does . DON'T TAKE.
HIS ONLINE CLASS IS TERRIBLE! Better off taking the class in a classroom environment. His files are so disorganized and out of date. The discussion is due on Wednesday but it's required that someone replies to your comment but there's like 40 people enrolled in the course. You also have to read a lot, no extra credit. I will never take his class.
Professor Ulloa is awesome. He does the assignments and quizzes by week. So usually you get the chapter material on Monday then the discussion is due by Wednesday and then a quiz on Sunday. If you keep up with your work and turn everything in on time you will pass easily.
I had him for an online class and there was no communication with him. I emailed him on both emails of his that I had, for clarification on our semester project, and got no reply. His course also had no final, which he didn't tell us until finals week. The schedule comes out weekly, so long term planning on the students' end is difficult.
There aren't many professors like Prof Ulloa, he tries to make classes engaging and encourages people to participate on online forums. The material is presented in an easy to understand and fun format that students shouldn't have any difficulty doing. I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about their education.
Unfortunately, Ulloa, though a nice guy, is not a good choice for students who want to learn. Though he's generally a nice guy, expect to write 17 pages of notes for no purpose, take 10 minutes 10 question exams every week in which your textbook and notes have no answers for, and if your lucky some answers can be found on Quizlet. Do not recommend.
I took his online class: I really didnt like how there was a 100 POINT MOVIE ASSESSMENT. This assignment did not seem relevant to the class at all as it seemed as if it was made for a film as lit class. Hes a rough grader on discussion posts too, so expect to do roughly 3 paragraphs per discussion to get a decent grade. Do NOT take this class
I do not why he has bad rating, I am not smart but this professor did not give out any exam, quiz, and essay. He cared about what the student think. The only big assignmet was movie review. Every week you need to post discussion and reply two classmate. This class is very easy and you will love everything you learn. Great professor!
Professor is clear with the grading criteria. As long as you do your work he will give you credit for it and you wont have to worry on wether he agrees with your opinion or not unlike other professors. Complicated to get a hold of but their shouldnt be questions asked since homework is self explanatory.
i learned lots in this class, no thanks to the prof. you will gain knowledge from the book and classmates only. no lectures, no prof feedback, no prof interactions w/ students. grade is based on quizzes, discussions, and 1 paper. lots of errors on quizzes and he doesn't reply to emails. yes it's covid era but students deserve better than this.
It was a very weird class - no interaction with the professor, just read the book, take quizzes, and participate in discussions; 1 movie review. He was grading very slowly, I saw the final grade only at the end of the class. If you actually want to learn something about anthropology - I don't recommend this class.
Loved the subject didn't like the professor all that much. Didn't give out lectures so we had to read straight from the book.
very bad prof I never met! I got 100% for homework and assignments but he give my final " movie review" 60 points, and didn't give comma or feedback. I never got B for my essay (including English, film, socl) . This porf give points randomly, and I report, so he give me a chance to rewrite. do not take this class, if you fell unfair, report it!
SUCH AN EASY CLASS! the other reviews are bad for some reason but if you need to get a history class requirement out of the way TAKE IT WITH ULLOA! His class was just one discussion a week and no tests and no quizzes. Easiest class ever you won't regret it
He is a very easy professor and you pretty much do the work and pass. I didnt have a final for his online class just a midterm, and it was easy. You do read a lot but you have a whole week to do the reading and participate in an online discussion. That was the only work I did for the whole course.
Professor Ulloa is a great Professor. I really enjoyed his class and I definitely learned a lot. He is straight forward, so do the work! He was very responsive to the emails. I highly recommend Professor Ulloa, if you are responsible and take school seriously.
Super easy. Just quizzes, discussions, and a movie review. Discussions are an easy 100%, quizzes are doable, and the paper is an easy A.
Literally just discussions and one movie review. You can legit just turn in the discussion w/ replies at 11:50 pm Sunday and get a 20/20 like I did ;) Didn't read anything, so I just used my knowledge from 11th grade APUSH.
This class to be a self taught class that you're best friends with the textbook. You literally learn about the same things you did in K-12. He doesn't connect material to things happening today, and doesn't equally focus on ethnic groups in the US specifically African Americans because the only material we look at is the textbook, that is censored.
A few assignments per semester, like 4, but he doesn't grade them or give feedback so you never know your grade which sucks. He slams on the desk to scare students who look tired which I don't really think is appropriate. Says participation is important but sometimes makes you feel stupid when you talk. Lectures, no textbook or slides.
Professor doesn't respond and a lot of discussions/assignments are left ungraded with little to no context in instructions. Sometimes you don't even know what exactly you're supposed to be doing and you have no response from the Professor whatsoever.
Professor John Ulla, Is overall a great professor! I think the people who gave him a low rating are a part of a system that wants that old-school education. With a bunch of busy work. John makes everything he talks about relevant and opens your thinking like no other professor I've ever taken before, plus he makes the best Dad Jokes EVER!
Easy A. Only discussions and creative project as graded assignments. Prof. Ulloa grades all at once, so be prepared to not have grades for a while. Straightforward, and easy.
I took this class when covid started so I wasn't used to online classes. No feedback on your work, never announces upcoming assignments and doesn't care about you at all. He also takes forever to grade your work which is bad because you never know exactly how is your grade. Worst experience I ever had in 4 years studying at Skyline College.
Online Anthro-180 now. Lots of reading. The professor is not accessible, does not answer emails, and grades very slowly. First grade after more than 2 weeks, and not all the assignments graded. I am not sure I will know my grade till the end of the semester which is very unnerving. Would not recommend.
1 week before the online course ends. Only 2 out of 9 assignments are graded. Last week's module is still not open as of Monday of this week. No idea how I am doing/what my grade will be. Emailed twice after the first 2 discussions were graded, still no response. Grades on discussions (6), 1 movie review, 2 reflections. Won't advise or take again.
Professor Ulloa, is a very supportive professor! I truly appreciate him and learned a lot of history in California that I never learned before. Which is very inspirational to learn and make sure you read the syllabus. Thank you Professor for teaching this course and I am grateful for the knowledge you teach me about California history.
One of my favorite professors at Skyline. Genuinely understanding and promotes creative dialogue. Late work is generally accepted and the videos/reading are mandatory to consume. The material was engaging and informative. I recommend taking this history course whether for your own personal interest or for the GED requirements.
I do not understand the negative reviews Ulloa is a great professor! Had his class in person and had so much fun. The class was alive and engaged and the work load was very manageable. Final project was your choice and how you tied it back to culture. Many people had beautiful takes on this idea and led to meaningful and insightful conversations.
An easy A. If you want to learn, forget it. He doesn't teach. People posted blatantly false historical info in the discussions and he didn't notice. He grades twice, about six weeks in and then at the end, so you finish the class not knowing if you are failing or thriving. It is rather shocking that he gets paid, he doesn't teach at all.
John Ulloa was a fairly absent online professor. He assigned readings and had discussions each week. No extra credit was offered. He took a while to grade, but I got 100% on everything. It was an interesting class. Don't take this class if you need the academic support that other professors offer. Easy A, but you need to teach yourself.
Easy online class with minimal work. Participates in discussions and a movie review. Used unstuck ai for prep and found it very helpful alongside the textbook. Professor could be more engaged, but overall a solid experience.
His syllabus makes him sound stricter than he really is. I took this class last summer and was stressed when I realized I didn't meet the syllabus' word count for discussions but he didn't mind! The class was really easy and the teacher rarely interacts with students. Overall, an easy A!
