Avoid him. His notes are confusing, his tests are impossible and he assumes that you know all this extra information already. Oh and very intimidating, plus not very well organized. Head my warning and avoid him or you will be sorry.
Very unorganized, test are different from material, I read all chapters and notes, then on test night I did not even recognize the wording, I think he wanted to impress us with his vocabulary. Very confusing.
This class would not be so bad if he just made the assignment and test more clear. It is very hard to figure out what is going on, this is frustrating to me because I do not have a lot of time between work and school.
Mr.Urbanski has good intentions but I don't think he understands his students very well. Tests are ridiculous! There will be things on the test that were never in lecture or in the text book!
Lecture doesn't line up to the material he has for the reading so you must study both..but even after studying both his test are ridiculously hard...some of the most awkward wording I have ever seen. I highly recommend for anyone to STAY AWAY from this professor! He is truly the worst I have ever had!
Urbanski is the type that thinks he is always right. You can take his test and then show him the notes he gave you on why an answer might be correct but it does no good. Anything anyone voices to him goes in one ear and out the other. I don't know if it is a respect issue or not, but he is not going to listen to anything you have to say. AVOID!
Urbanski has to be the worst teacher I have ever had in all my years attending college. He really does know the material, but he lacks the ability to structure his material which leaves you feeling lost... and its not long before you dread the course entirely. I'm not even sure I want to be a business major anymore because of this experience!
class was very hard to be an intro class. he is hard to understand and his hand writing is terrible. i studied for hours for the test and still failed. he tests you on the book when he doesnt go over the stuff and also questions from his lectures. very bad class. i do not reccommend him for a class.
I would never take a class with him again. This was an awful experience, Urbanski's lack of structure and direction made this class much harder then it needed to be. Test included material that was not in the lecture or the book.
Very passionate about the subject. it is a lot of work. Tests aren't impossible, just don't expect to memorize key terms and be fine. if you read your notes and study overall concepts you will be fine. Gives 30 MC and you pick 20 to answer. Really, its not that hard. Just don't expect to skate by easily. Take detailed notes - tests follow exactly
Prof. Urbanski is a nice teacher. His other class spoke up about his unstructured lectures so now he keeps them structured. Tests aren't that difficult, take good notes and study from those, reading the book does help for tests. His words and phrases aren't the same as the book's, so keep an open mind. Really good class and great prof.
No Structure what so ever. No Syllabus, no grades. Not a fun class.
This class has been a horrible experience. This guy is extremely unclear of what he wants. The class was made much more difficult by him and not the subject matter. This semester has been hell
He is the worst teacher ever, if possible take someone else!! His lectures drag on forever he makes no sense and he has the worst handwriting ever. You are spending more time trying to figure out what is on the board and what the hell he is talking about than actually taking good notes and learning. By far the worst teacher ever & he is really rude
Urbanski is just one of those teachers that doesn't let you skate by. So if you're lazy, you won't do well. For those of us that actually want to learn, he is a decent teacher. His classes are weirdly stuctured and hard to get used to. Be ready to work if you take him, which is what you need to do if you are in upper division business anyways.
Not sure what all the negative comments are about. When I looked here before I took Bus344, I was really scared to have him. But, he isn't bad at all. I'm a B student and I got an A on every assignment. The work is easy and tests are straight from lectures. So glad that I didn't drop the class before I gave him a chance. Def taking urbanski again!!
Horrible teacher, dont listen to these other guys saying hes good, I think Urbanski himself came on here to improve his score.
He's not the greatest to listen too, it can be hard to follow where he is going with his lectures. The test, however, can be very easy! I hardly read the book and got high B's on all test. There were two major assignments and they were group cases, another easy A, if you have a good group.
I thought this guy was going to be terrible after the reviews. He ended up being one of my favorite teachers at SSU. If you are a good student and actually listen/read the book like asked, this class is easy. It is very helpful to write down EVERYTHING he says. Once i started doing that I got A's on every test. He has a good sense of humor too.
I was not looking forward to this class after reading all of Urbanski's reviews, but I have to say, he's a really nice guy and pretty funny. The tests are not like anything I've experienced in other classes, very conceptual, but if you pay attention and take notes you should be fine. I really liked his class
I knew this class wasnt going to be fun prior to going into it and it proved correct. I am praying to pass the class, the tests are SO differnet than anything ive taken, they are situational and theres no one right answer. Pretty much a guessing game.. Class is mandatory and painful to sit through.
The tests are very difficult but if you go to him he will help you with tips to get good grades on them. Lectures are long and you will never get out early, not even on exam nights, but he is funny and the material is interesting.
Reading the reviews i thought the class was gonna be extremely hard, but it wasnt bad at all. Lectures do drag out but u have to be able to elaborate on the notes you take or else ur notes are confusing. Great guy, always there to help, tests are 50% lecture 50% text oriented.
Attendance is key! the tests are hard and are conceptual but he gives you options on the test to do multiple choice or short answer. 3 exams 1 final 1 group project. Rarely get out of class early but if you are willing to study you will do fine and pass.
Any teacher who writes under 30 words on the board the whole class period and spends a whole two hours talking about them is confusing. I had no idea what to study most of the time until he sent out the study guide (2-3 days before test). He is nice, and he does care for his students, hes just really unclear, and a tough grader.
I was advised by a friend to take Urbanski's O.B. class because he's a likeable professor & his course is not that difficult.I found that this was accurate(others may disagree). Although he could have better structured notes. Tip:GO TO CLASS,PAY ATTENTION,TAKE NOTES,ASK QUESTIONS.The text supplements lecture&helps to study. 3 MC exam+final. No HW.
Worst teacher i have ever had at SSU. His lectures make no sense and tests are extremely hard. He puts things on the test that he said he lectured on but never did. Read the book. Try and avoid, he is horrible.
This was the worst professor I had in all my years of college. I don't agree that he should be teaching and especially this class. Avoid at all costs.
This was the WORST teacher I have had at SSU. His leactures are confusing and his tests are hard. He says he lectures on things that he doesn't and expect that you know it. He is not clear when teh two case studies are due and isn't clear on what you are supposed to do. Avoid if you can, you will dread the class.
I really liked him & the class, he gave tips & examples from the real world. Attendance a must, take detail notes. Don't be lazy & just copy what he writes, won't work. Tests r unique, he lets u pick ur own test. 40 m/c, u pick any 30 questions to answer + 5 more for bonus pts, & cross off any 5 you don't want to answer or 2 short answer & 20 m/c.
first off, who doesn't use email? This was very frustrating. The tests are a combination of the lectures and readings, however the concepts he covers in class are not usually from the book. His lectures are confusing, and he is not straight forward.
Keeps students till the end every time. Is nice. No homework except 2 case studies. 3 midterms one final. Tests are difficult multiple choice exams with the option of short answer.Participation is required. It is difficult to know what to study for. Lectures are unclear as a result of poor notes on whiteboard.
Avoid if you can, he writes on the board, which is hard to follow since he jumps around all over the board. Exams are hard and confusing, worst professor ever!
I won't lie, the class is hard. Attendance is mandatory, he doesn't let you out early, and his notes on the board are scattered(he doesn't use a PowerPoint). But I actually did well in the class by reading everything, and paying attention and taking notes. It's not bad. Pretty relatable to real life. Work hard, do what he asks and you will pass
Worst Professor I have ever had. His test are hard and lectures are confusing. Review your test if you choose the short answer. He gave me an F and I brought the book to show my answers were right and he still told me I was wrong. After pointing it out multiple times he finally gave me the A I deserved. DON'T take him if you can.
His tests are very difficult. There's no homework besides a group project or two, but even if you study hard for the tests, it's difficult to know how he's going to phrase them. In a given lecture I'll take like 2 pages of notes, but on the board he only writes a total of, say, 50 words. So PAY ATTENTION to what he says, not just to what he writes.
Don't expect to ever get out early. Highly recommend to read the book to do well on the exams. Course is definitely doable but requires effort.
Literally the worst class I've ever taken. If you don't understand his lectures, you're screwed because you can't "self teach" yourself through the book. A lot of his questions are lecture based, so some of the terms he uses aren't even in the book. His notes on the whiteboard suck as he has no consistency to them. This class is hard. Be prepared.
Show up, take notes on everything he says, and read the book. His class requires effort but i think overall it is enjoyable. His tests are conceptual based make sure you study and you'll be fine. Not nearly as bad as other reviewers have said it just requires some work which being in college shouldn't be something new.
Not an easy class in that it requires you to actually read the book and write down everything he SAYS as well as what he puts on the board. The tests are notoriously difficult if you do not read or study. I enjoyed the class and i took it over the summer for four hours mon-thurs and received an A- so it is definitely doable. Just show up every day.
He is very monotone; bring coffee to class. His exams are impossible if you do not do the reading. The class is do-able but you have to put in the work and the effort. Read the book, go over your notes and make note cards. Go to his office hours if you have any questions and he will gladly clarify.
Hard as hell. Tough as hell. A class from hell.
Urbankski's teaching method is very challenging. Tests are mainly based on lecture so attendance is crucial. He strays from the book which makes it difficult to follow. One group project. This is the hardest class I've taken at SSU. Be prepared to study your butt off!
If you read any good comments on here, I'm more than sure it's Urbanski trying to save his own skin. Terrible class.
Looks like Alice Cooper, voice like Jim Henson. DO NOT MISS HIS LECTURES!! All exams are based on lecture material. Class is very challenging, think Psych 1A, but he is fair. I would take another class with him any chance I got.
I found the material of the class to be quite intersting and useful. I felt that Urbankski overcomplicated the material, by changing the terminology according to what he wanted it to be than what the txt book referred to it as. Exams are 95% based on lecture, and 5% from text book. Be sure to write down EVERTHING he says!
Urbanski, is a hard grader and is makes you work for your grade. If you keep up on the reading and go to class you will pass. He uses many different colors on the board and tries to make it interesting. He will always answer your questions if you ask. Participate, read, go to class, and you will pass. I would definitely reccomend him as a professor
This instructor tell requires you to have a book. However, he makes up his own terms so the text book is no use. The notes that you will be taking in his class is what you should be studying. He claims he doesn't want you to just regurgitate text book info, so that's why he does it. But it's just a way for him not to read his own materials.
Proff makes up his own terms to avoid reading his own materials, so text book is useless. You use class notes instead, but he writes illegibly and does not give you time to write the notes down. Due to Tenure he is "Equity Entitled' . You will learn that term in his class. Brace yourself if you have to take his class.
I actually really like John. Probably have learned the most in his class than any other business class. The lectures last the entire class period. The notes he gives are very structured and anything he says is "fair game" for the test. Just write really good notes and study them and you will pass. He gives funny one liners and stories in class hah
Don't let the positive ratings fool you. Take this class at your own risk. The tests are the toughest I've ever taken. The group project is time consuming and complicated. The material, from the book, is so simple, but he makes it so unnecessarily complex. And you'll be tested on most of his material, not the book. May God be with you.
John is probably one of my favorite professors at SSU, yes his class requires more attention but that's what should be expected from a college class. If you are expecting to pass this class by skimming the book a day before the test or by not attending lecture then you will not be happy. He is funny and his lectures are very nicely structured.
What should be expected from a college class are not lectures that are unorganized and a class that contains very little structure. Gives us 6 days to complete a HUGE group project and 4 days later you're given a major exam, but he can take a month to grade papers at his leisure.
Lectures are informative. He color codes his notes on the board- it helps to do the same. His tests determine a majority of your grade, requiring studying and deep thinking. He has intellectual humor and provides interesting and useful lectures. I am an A student and earned a B, but I absorbed a ton of knowledge regarding behavior in the workforce
Best professor I've had but the 2nd hardest. He actually cares about his students learning conceptually instead of just memorizing definitions so be ready to take good notes in lecture and actually pay attention to what he's saying. Take if you want to ACTUALLY learn about ORG. Behavior. If you like dry humor you will laugh a lot during lectures.
Urbanski really knows his stuff. His lectures, although long, are very interesting due to his sense of humor and vast knowledge. I'm an average student and got a B. His tests are tough but only if you don't read thoroughly.
Terrible teacher period. Lectures the entire class about stuff that is irrelevant. Gives no guidelines for the cases, final project, or final paper. DO NOT TAKE!
Prof. Urbanski tells you when you first enter his classroom to take notes and engage in the class .... he will not give xtra credit so that we can pass ...... he wants you to take notes and pay attention ... if you decide otherwise... that's your choice. Fair to students fair in grading ... overall a good guy.
Dr. Urbanski is a great professor and he seriously knows what he's talking about. But he makes his class ridiculously hard! You have to take notes on EVERYTHING he says because it could be on the test, even if it's not in the textbook. If you skip class, he drops your grade, no extra credit ever, and no clear grading for group projects.
He's alright
Urbanski is accessible whenever you need him and he makes his lectures pretty interesting. However, his lectures are not very clear, and the exams and prompts can be quite ambiguous.
His lectures are distracting. I'll be following along and all of a sudden he'll stop writing and start talking about topics irrelevant to the class material while obstructing everyone's view of the board. He mumbles and speaks unclearly a lot. I for real thought "social loamfing" was an actual term for weeks because he is so inaudible sometimes.
This professor is the absolute worst that I've ever taken in SSU. Not only that I agree with the comment below mine, but he makes his exams nearly impossible to get a good grade on. I've done hours of studying from the textbook and notes like he told us and I failed 3/4 exams. Also, he picks groups for the paper, so make sure you have a good group!
Prof Urbanski should be rated a clear F based on his own criteria: uninspiring/ tells students all the poor feedback he received here (RMP)is true, poor leadership skills, ambiguous tests with 5 choices, poor lecturer, uncaring/condescending-forgets students are his customers, project based on 70 year old film and does NOT practice what he teaches.
Awful. If you see this professor in any class list when you enroll in classes, DO NOT TAKE him. His lectures are unclear and tests are not even close to anything similar to whats in lecture and textbook. The case analysis he makes you do is just as bad. 1 week to do a 10 page paper is horrific, and he PICKS the groups for it! Save yourselves!
Horrible lecturer, doesn't write on board just speaks and expects you to understand. When he does write you can't read it, and he mumbles. His tests are almost impossible and filled with material he never talked about. Cant miss more than 2 classes
This class honestly made NO sense what so ever. With the transition to online classes due to COVID-19, he made this class extremely difficult. Prior to the transition, the lectures were hard to understand because he would mumble and not write anything on the board. The tests covered NOTHING discussed in lab/text. Project doesn't make sense.
Take the other professor. Everyone told me to but i liked the time slot he had. I am a A student and got a c grade. There are people who didnt study and did decently but ironically the ones of us who put effort into the class seemed to do worse on the exams. He is tenured so he really doesnt care. this class was by far my least favorite
Easily the worst teacher I have ever had. I took him online for summer school and his lectures are like 2 hours long and he mumbles the entire time. Then he gives you a test the next week on the lectures and the book with grading criteria that doesn't make sense. The leadership analysis you aren't given enough time. Do not take this man
I took urbanski for both bus 344 and my capstone course. His lectures are interesting. Tests are hard in that I was used to not having to study and I had to study for this. You could get most of the info you needed to study from his lectures and he would spend more time on things that were important. I barely read the text book.
One of the worst online classes I have ever taken. The material itself is not difficult, but there is a huge disconnect when it comes to the tests. Your grade is also nearly 100% based off of tests. I've got nothing against this guy, but his teaching style will not align with 95% students. Like others have said, do not take his class.
Couldn't reach him for help the majority of the semester. Tough Grader with no clear grading rubric. Somehow expects people to be able to watch 5-7 hours of lecture for a test with no practice or assignments to help you. Rude, condescending, one of the worst Professors I've come in contact with and I've had over 20 of them total.
The tests are very hard, and he formats the class asynchronously so you have to teach yourself everything. His recorded lectures are long and dense, somewhat hard to follow. He was extremely rude to me when I had a technical difficulty during the middle of a proctored exam on zoom. If you can avoid him, I would.
condescending and smug, but if you participate in class you may just see a sliver of a human being. The course work is interesting and you may see it implemented at your workplace. Whiteboard outlines are getting better, lectures are getting better. A very tough grader who will test on topics not covered in class or in the text. (2020 pre-covid)
No offense to Professor Urbanski, but he is out of touch. He uses long dense recorded videos that honestly do not help you at all. Sets up course for you to fail if you do not do well on exams. Honestly does not seem like he cares about his students at all. Do not take him if you can.
Worst teacher I've ever had in any level of education. He truly sucks at connecting with students and is boring as hell. Extremely unorganized with his class procedures and does not know technology. Beware prior to taking this class, you will regret it. However, most have to take his class to pass pre-requisite requirements.
I gave Professor Urbanski the benefit of the doubt when signing up for classes at the beginning of the semester, ignoring the bad reviews. But when I say this is the worse professor at SSU, I mean it. He does not care about his students whatsoever. Avoid taking this professor if possible.
Urbanski was one of the hardest professors I've ever taken. He expects the students to study pre-recorded lectures in which he rambles on at quiet monotonous volume. The information is dry and as a professor he is unhelpful. Do not take this course unless you need to. The tests are very difficult, especially considering the dry class material.
The most unorganized teacher at SSU and probably the only teacher who truly could care less if his students fail.
Worst professor Ive had in college
This is by far the worst prof I've ever taken in college. He literally doesn't care about anything and he says that he's open to questions but is so rude when answering emails. He has such an attitude when putting in absolutely no work into the class. He doesn't "care about grades" for students which speaks a lot already. Avoid this man.....
During my time at Sonoma State University I have not had a worse teacher than this guy. It is ironic that he is an organizational behavioral and human resources teacher. He is the type of professor to say grades don't matter, its all about your understanding and then proceed to give you an F. For heavens sake stay away please god.
I am a straight A student and am falling his class. The test questions are never worded like his lectures or the book and trick you. He gives little time to test without use of book or notes. He is nothing but rude and could care less if we pass. My entire class in failing.
I am older than many of the students in my classes. After two years at SCC and now on my second year at SSU I have never experienced such an experience with a teacher that is more focused on accusing students of cheating than really caring about them learning and understanding the course.
Difficult but manageable. DO NOT pass on the reading. Tests are 2/3 lectures, but the reading covers lecture material along with the extra material. Overall a straightforward class that will take lots of studying but do not expect him to hold your hand and show you how to be a responsible student. Prepare ahead of time for case analysis or else..
It's not an easy class AT ALL. His lectures are extremely lengthy and boring but the information is straightforward and reflects off the book. Read the chapters before watching his videos and you'll do well in the class. Be prepared to teach yourself as he is completely disconnected from society.
Listen to everyone below and take this class at your own risk. Study the lectures in their entirety, and don't forget to read. The tests are difficult, and are completely conceptual. You NEED to understand the material. Hours of lecture videos that are very dry and hard to absorb. DO NOT expect to cruise through this class by any means.
Horrible construction of teaching the class, cares more about students cheating then he does about teaching the material. Calls for absurd test instructions that take good amount of time out of your test time just to figure out how to take the test. Do not take this class
Avoid at all costs! He recorded all lectures so he doesn't have to hold Zoom Sessions even though class was listed as synchronous, but then requires you to log onto zoom & turn your camera on for exam days. Then accuses the class of cheating after the first exam even though everyone failed it. If you prefer teaching yourself then he is your teacher
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I took him last year, and now that I am graduating this year I can say that with 100% confidence. He is so strangely condescending, and genuinely seems to hate his job. I took his course asynchrnously, and so I basically taught the course to myself. The work load is fine, it's just the professor himself.
He is an agonizing pain to listen to at 8 in the morning. Loves talking about his BUS 344 class and gets mad about little things, such as sleeping in class. Takes attendance and lectures the whole time because he doesn't wanna waste our money. Has an abnormally long syllabus and will call people out for yawning.
The professor was the hardest part of the class. I took the summer course and he accused everyone of cheating on the first exam. On our final group project, he handed us an easy assignment that took us 10 minutes to complete, then asked us to write a 2-page paper rating each other's efforts with an emphasis on who was a bad student/who slacked off.
Worse professor at SSU. Do not take if possible
One of the worst professors that I had taken at SSU. Cares more about students that commit academic dishonesty rather than wanting them to pass. The only bright side is the class is bisynchronous but pretty much teaching yourself all the materials that were presented but we have to log on zoom to take tests. I wouldn't let my worst enemy take him.
Terrible teacher, not only is he rude but also has odd criteria for tests and makes you pay for his pdfs to write an analysis like as if we didn't already spend so much on the class to begin with.
Terrible professor! Class is very difficult and very dense! Avoid if you can (Sorry to those who have no choice but to take him)
Dr. Urbanski is a challenging professor, and his class setup makes it so that you cannot have many hiccups in test performance. As you can see, he doesn't have the best rating on this platform. However, if you put effort into the class, you will learn a lot about the material. There is no homework; there are four exams and one group project.
A professor who's main goal is to catch cheaters. Tests are performed over Zoom with cameras on, if you need to ask any questions he only takes phone calls... Be prepared for confusing tests with conceptual questions not pertaining to lecture. Spams inbox with accusations of class cheating. Everyone did so poorly that my D- got curved to a C.
I would genuinely rather cut off my right nut than take another class with this man. He changes rules days before the test and never provides a study guide. He makes jokes to try to keep the class liking him but we just want him to retire. I am not kidding when I say you should lie and say you have work during his class to take a CSU ONLINE CLASS
Hands down worst professor ever (if you can even call him that). He literally tried to r
Professor is terrible. Only uploads videos of old films, you don't learn anything. All of his material you can find on google so its all copied and the tests have ZERO to do with the stuff he provides. He refuses to use email only does phone calls. Will call you back DAYS after. if anyone from SSU we need to have him FIRED.
Urbanski gets a bad rap for some very minor requests. He wants you to show up to class, be on time, and not talk or be on your phone the entire time. Is that really asking a lot? He's a lecture heavy teacher with 4 pretty challenging tests and two papers that aren't too difficult. The class isn't an easy A and unfortunately only offered at 8am.
He has a such a terrible attitude. When a student got up to go to the bathroom, he said "well wait" and halted class just for a student who had to use the restroom. Ive never seen a teacher get mad at a student who has to do a normal human function. This is University, were adults! This aint middle school or elementary where we have to ask. Avoid!
Has no enthuasiasm and doesnt engage students that much. Topics he teaches in class usually doesnt show up on the test. Provides little to no study guides to prepare for important exams. Makes his own questions on exams that are confusing and sometimes based on topics that we didnt cover. Terrible teacher that I would not take again.
worst professor i have ever taken at ssu. could not care about the students at all + exams were almost impossible. it is a miracle i passed. if i could share some wisdom, it would be to never take this professor. save yourself the stress / pain. trust. me. i gave this professor the benefit of the doubt and i regret it. he lives up to his reviews.
Professor Urbansky to be quite frank is very unreasonable. In my BUS344 class, I paid money to learn and I can be fully confident in saying I didn't learn a thing due to how frustrated I was every single day in his class. HE is very unreasonable with how he teaches the class... none of the tests even correlate with the lectures he gives.
Professor Urbanski has a strict teaching style, but engaging with his methods can pay off. The workload is challenging, but unstuck study alongside the textbook can help manage the coursework. Attend class, stay focused, and you'll likely succeed.
Professor Urbanski gets more heat than he deserves. I enjoyed his class, I thought the material was interesting and Urbanski lectures well. If you want an A, make sure to study not only lectures but the textbook. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Although Urbanski has an abrasive personality his humor and lectures make up for it.
The only positive is that his lectures are interesting. Exams are study-heavy, and you must fully understand both the book and lectures. Note-taking is frustrating since he jumps around a lot. Be ready to redo notes and study for days. Even accounting feels easy after this class.
This Professor is very hard. His exams are 70% of your grade; NOT open-note, and you need to teach everything yourself, then take the exams in person. Do not recommend. Group projects are involved near the end, so hopefully you get a group that will do their part.
only took 344 with him because I had to, if not I would have not taken this course. if you do not participate in his questions throughout lectures, go to class or teach yourself the textbook, you will most likely not pass. take any professor you'd like, just not this one if you want to actually learn and pass class.
Class is lecture heavy, the tests are challenging, and attendance is mandatory. However, if you put in the effort it's not difficult to get a good grade. My advice; write diligent notes and read the textbook. About 80% of test questions are from lecture and 20% are from the book. He's a knowledgeable/good professor who teaches a challenging class.
