Tests are more than what he says are in his notes, I would write down what he says additionally, but he gives a great curve.

Had in summer school. Not sure if curves (I think he does). He is anti-boring. Take ALL the notes: most of test is based on them. Tests are a bit tricky. He is also the martial arts teacher in Hunter (Tai Chi).

Exams are based mostly on notes which he writes on the projector. Might be helpful to take your own notes but he gives the majority of the material needed. Funny guy who practices Tai-chi and has a phillipino wife. Overall the class was interesting I actully wanted to attend that class. Attendence counts even though he may not make a big deal of it

Do not take this class with him from 8:10 to 9:25 AM you will pass out from boredom. No seriously, you'd think its human sexuality, I'll be up. Wrong. His test are strictly from the text and his notes, yet they are not always straight forward. Certaintly not a class to get your GPA up, takes time and lots of studying. Just take it with Ryan.

Teacher is GREAT. He makes the classes fun to attend, and because he's been working so long, he brings a level of experience that others just don't have. He speaks clearly and gives great notes, and his tests reflect the material you read. No day in either of his classes was boring, including exam days.

What a great guy! I loved the class, he is hilarious and not afraid to talk about his sexuality which is a little weird but funny after a while. I remembered him saying "wait I have to give you a couple more notes so you can be prepaired for the weekend." it was a sex class, you figure it out. Doctor Van Wettering is great! He is very clear on the material covered; so, he may have his own reasons to be unfriendly... after so many years of practice. I loved being his student; more than that, I look forward for being his student again. He is very knowledgeable , experienced, and righteous.

Here's a great professor!! Tries to give you some examples of test topics the day before the exam to study on but you still need to study way ahead in order to remember everything!!! Will try to spend as much time with you, to explain the material but it doesn't mean to slack off in class. You must attend class in order to get all notes and info.

He doesn't talk that much about himself, & when he does it's to illustrate a point or to give an example.Since he actually works at mental facility, I think he knows what he's talking about.Class notes are very important, the textbook not so much.Tests are moderately difficult, like I said, the notes are the key to do well. Overall, good professor.

He was so wonderful! Keeps an interesting discussion going and is clearly very knowledgeable in his subject area. His tests are tricky and are mostly from the notes, so try to write down everything he says. However, he does drop the lowest grade and curves the final grade. Easy on the eyes as well, if you know what I mean.

Abnormal psych is not an easy course. His notes are important. He is not the nicest guy but he has a lot of experience. Takes attendance everyday.

He was pretty funny and I enjoyed the class, besides for when he showed us some sick movie about a guy who enjoyed cutting himself. o_O I got low 80's on his tests, but he curves them and drops the lowest grade. IMO, it's not necessary to read the textbook; just review the notes and you'll be fine.

Good professor. If you don't have the cash, don't bother with the text book, you'll be fine. Doesn't put up slides on BB so go to class and take notes. He is interesting and teaches well. Exams are easy, lowest grade droped and a curve. If you have interest in the topic (and you should!) he's the man for the job.

Very good lectures which you must go to. He really knows his stuff. All psych majors should take him atleast once. Don't buy the text book, it's not used and it's not a good reference. I ended up referring to my other psych texts while studying because the one he suggests is so bad. He showed a really disturbing movie. Really knowledgable guy.

Excellent teacher. Anyone interested in biopsych should take him. Wish the lectures were a bit more structured, though this is a minor complaint. The book was good for background material. People who complain about the tests being "tricky" clearly did not study. "Real world" descriptions of patients are helpful in understanding the disorders.

Well, I should say that taking class with Dr. Van Wettering has influenced me a lot. It was about 6 months ago, but I still feel its influence. He is great! He has so many hilarious stories, and he makes the material very interesting, always providing examples from his workplace. I took him over the summer, so the grade was the average of two tests. Kinda tough, but pretty easy overall!

Pretty organized in what he teaches. Makes slight funny comments on topics related to sex, well considering it was a sex class (haha). He writes his notes on the board and 90% of his notes are found on the tests while the other 10% come from the text. 3 exams and a final. No curve so beware.

Besides being good at teaching, he's doing a lot of research on human behavior and adaptability. Ask him about it; maybe he'll offer you an opportunity to participate in some. Believe me, you'll learn a lot for yourself. I'm still learning... and it seems like I'm not the only one.

I actually didn't think he was that bad. He's a bit arrogant and I received an A- when I probably would have gotten an A with a different professor, but still, I've definitely had worse. I probably would not recommend him to anyone else, this class would have been easier with a different professor (take it with Ryan or Koken if you can).

Don't know why so many negatives, because he was a great professor for experimental. We took trips to the park for natural observations and conducted different types of experiments. I learned a lot from him. He is very helpful if you are having troubles and makes class interesting.

Based on other reviews, I was scared to take this class with him but stayed anyways and I'm really glad I did. I loved the way he taught the class and his stories only enchanced the material. Not an easy A but I feel like I learned a lot. If a lot of people got a question wrong, he gave back the points. Very fair grader. I would take him again.

i took a summer course with him and he actually did a live psychology experiment to describe shaping, which was a very nice twist to a normally lecture heavy class. very nice professor.

Take him if you want to learn stuff and not just scale through 13 weeks of college with no knowledge gained and an easy A on your transcript. His comments are exteremely helpful, he offers to read multiple drafts and gives extensive comments on the drafts and makes an otherwise boring (3- 4 hours) class super interesting.

I took him over the Summer 12'. He's pretty good professor. All you have to do is study and you'll be fine. Make sure to also take notes on what he says besides what's on the slide. He gives key words to prep you on the exam.

I LOVED PSYCH250 because of this professor. Yes, he is VERY HARD and grades strictly; but you'll walk out feeling like you've actually been taught. The experiments that he thinks up are very fun and creative to carry out. His exams are easy and will boost your grade up. I did terrible on my papers but I ended up with a A because I TRIED.

I stumbled upon this advising a pre-med. I had Dr. Van Wettering for a class, Sensory and Perception, maybe 15 years ago. I am now a Board Certified MD psychiatrist. I thought he was excellent. Yes, you have to read, study, take fastidious notes. My suggestion: study buddy and review your notes together. Ask ?s that demons. that you have read

this class was hard but with any professor 250 is hard 4 papers took him for the summer was hard but he is funny and really wants you to succeed

The course itself is tough. The department standard is 4 papers a midterm, a final, and a presentation. If you don't understand statistics, you WILL learn! His teaching methods are awesome. He is patient and gives you time to revise your work. Attendance is not mandatory but you will fail, if you don't go!

Tough class, but so is every Psych 250 course. He is a great teacher and will make sure you understand the material. His methods are effective. Anyone who fails, did so because they did not attend. The course is extremely tough! Pay ATTENTION. If you're having trouble with stats or experimental, he's the professor to take!

You're graded on four long papers (12-19 pages or you're doing it wrong) and two exams. Attendance is extra credit (1/2pt per class). The exams are easy (all MC). He is a tough grader on papers but not impossible (I got >90 on all of them with substantial effort), and he's more than willing to look over drafts before the deadline.
