This teacher rocks and he is arguably one of the best teachers in AVC. Take his class if you want to really learn about Political Science. His lectures are not dry and he asks you to participate in every lecture. Really enjoyed this class!
Incredible teacher. One of the best I've had, take him if you get the chance.I wouldn't change a thing he had us do.Interesting lectures, make sure to interact. He makes pols interesting. Not an easy A but soooo worth it.He's fun,and he's put a lot of work into this class.I think I'll finally start voting because of him.Lot of reading, good for you.
Professor Vento is great! He is very helpful and cares about his students. I took his online class and you must participate in the weekly discussions as long as you do what he asks you will be good. Quizzes are weekly but they are multiple choice and simple. He does make you do a lot of work so if you cant commit I would not recommend him.
Vento is the BEST at AVC! I didn't know anything about him before his class, but I found that he is the only professor that expects a lot, but you want to do it! When someone believes in you like this Professor believes in his students, you can't help but do good. If you need help all you have to do is ask! He is always willing! Thanks Vento!
One of the best professors at this community college! He is extremely helpful and very clear at his lecture. Lectures are never dry and make sure you read textbooks and handouts ahead of time because he will call on you.
great teacher he just needs to slow it down and not scream so much
Very difficult teacher. Take him if you want to learn about politics, not if you want to keep your gpa up. prepare for lots of hard work and to learn a lot of stuff. he's extremely enthusiastic about everything he teaches about.
Vento is the man. not the easiest teacher you can get, he makes that very clear. he will try and scare the weak out of his class early. will kick you out if you arent prepared (have been kicked out) but do you work, utilize your test cheat sheet he allows you to use. vento teaches material in a way that you cant wait to talk about it later at home
Vento is one of the best teachers I've had at AVC. He engages his students, and you WILL understand Political Science by the end of the semester whether you like it or not. Get it, Vento!
Awesome teacher! He is tough, but as long as you do the work you are fine. Don't come to class unprepared to have a class discussion. He is such a great teacher, that politics become so interesting. He's not scary at all, and you learn so much. Just do the readings, and quizzes and you'll be fine. He even lets you have a cheat sheet for the tests
Makes political science interesting and fun. Very passionate, reasonable, and funny. Not a hard class, and his tests are essays but you can write your essay before hand and copy it for the tests
Vento is an awesome teacher! He makes political science interesting.DO NOT come unprepared to class! he will kick you out! make sure you read. dont let him scare you the first week of school! Lots of work but if you read and come to class its easy to understand. all test are essays but you get to use a cheat sheet.loved the class!
I learned alot in this class, but he does require you to participate, Hes very loud and gets his point across. i liked him but idk if id take him again.
Vento is a great teacher. His work is challenging. If you expect to get an easy A, don't take him. Don't come to class unprepaired or he'll kick you out. Allows you to bring a card for tests. Will make Poly Science exciting even if you don't like it. Don't let him scare you off first day. DON'T WALK INTO CLASS WEARING ANYTHING USC! A HUGE UCLA GUY!
I'd like to also point out that he really helps you if you show that your willing to improve. Since political science is my major, I will be taking more classes with him. But I don't mind. I have not seen any teacher with so much passion in what he teaches. There is never a dull moment in that class.
Professor Vento, well what more can I say?? The man is great. By far the best Political Science teacher that AVC has to offer. I'd recommend anyone to take him, you have to do a lot of cards and you have to stay on top your game, you can't slack off not once. He's very helpful this man.
Professor Vento is the best instructor I've ever had. He is extremely passionate about teaching Political Science. He teaches at the university level. He challenges you to think. If you want your education to improve who you are as a student/person, then take Vento. His class is interesting, exciting, informative, fun, and valuable.
After taking him for pols 101, 103 and 201 i have to say that this is the best professor i have ever had! his classes arent easy, at all, in fact they are demanding and hard but in the end it pays off, you learn so much about the political world! great man! i will miss his classes, 3 A's out of 3! wohooo!
Loved his class. Go Bruins. Vento is a great professor, maybe the best. His lectures are fun and interesting. He uses both the text book and his own lectures with multiple examples such as music and video clips to make sure everyone comprehends the information. His class is easy for students with a brain but the work load is heavy. Death to USC!
I absolutely!!!!!!!!!!! loved his class. he is one of the best of perhaps even the best political science professor in campus. At first I was scared I didn't know what I was getting myself into but it was all worth it. I highly recommend his class to student who are serious about their education. he is no fun and games but it all pays off. loved it
His class is not easy but he is a great teacher! You MUST take notes in order to succeed in his class because the exams are essay exams. So take notes and study in his class and you'll suceed and guarantee you'll have learned a lot about politics etc by the semester's end!
Great teacher. Lets you bring your essays prewritten for the exams, if you fail it's your fault! Lots of opportunities for points, and a very caring instructor when it comes to his students. Not bad to look at, either. Very responsive to emails. Grades quickly.
Difficult but worth it. He provides examples upon examples to ensure everyone understands what he's getting at. REALLY knows his stuff. Super funny. But the tests are killer. You have to be ready for multiple essays off of the study guide because he will pick 1-2 depending on "how good his coffee is." Seriously interesting class.
Coming to his class unprepared will be your worst decision. Kicks students out if they don't properly know the material or don't have their index cards with them. But that's the purpose of college, right? Be there because you want to be. Other than that he's an AMAZING teacher. Hard. Really hard. But worth it.
What an AMAZING teacher! The class is not too easy, but they way he teaches with such passion and enthusiasm makes you want to do well. Always come prepared, and ASK QUESTIONS! He is also a funny guy, I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Would recommend any and everyone to take him. Don't let him scare you off the first day it's worth the wait!
I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot. That being said his class is very hard. The workload is insane. There is a lot of homework, reading, and preparation. You must be prepared for class otherwise you may be kicked out. The class was very interesting but if you are looking for an easy A this isn't the class for you.
vento is one of the best teachers at avc! his class is hard and the workload is heavy, so be prepared.
Best class I have ever taken! Super interesting. Fair warning: he's a very demanding with reading, studying, and the exams. Take the cards seriously! You can be kicked out of class if he asks you something you and you don't know or didn't do the card. He's helpful though, he wants you to succeed. If he didn't push me I wouldn't have passed.
Mr. Vento's class definitely is no easy feat, but if you pay attention in lecture and you do all of his homework you'll do fine. The workload is pretty heavy but it's definitely do-able. You'll definitely leave his class learning something. If you don't want a hard class don't take him.
Best teacher at AVC by far. This school is very lucky to have him because he could easily be at a renowned University. I took him a few years ago and it was the only class where I formed a study group. Get ready to work hard and reap well earned rewards.
I love Mr. Vento he is a great person and a even better teacher. He is one of my favorite teachers. He is passionate about his job and cares about his students, he makes you work very had though. You will learn alot in this class.
Loved his class! his a VERY enthusiastic professor. at time it sounds that he is yelling bu i think hes excited to teach. He makes you think and makes you interested in the subject. tests are essay based i got Bs in them and quizzes online multi choice id take his class again!cause of him i want to be in politics. thanks vento!
This man is passionate and it really rubs off on his students. You have to work for it though. Don't bring the print outs? Kicked out of the class. Didn't do the assignment? Get out. Worked hard? You are awesome. Best teacher I've had so far. Gets you involved. I'm super quiet and he shows concern for that lol
Great Instructor ... extremely passionate about what he teaches. He's funny and keeps the class interesting. You'll really have to study and attend EVERY class to do well in his class. Also what helped me tremendously was attending the SI meetings. Vento by far one of my favorite instructors.
Vento is AWSOME! HE IS very Passionate about what he does. The class is easy as long as you do your work, its just a lot of reading and writing. I hated the subject before I had him, I strongly recommend him! Oh and he is HOT !
Very Hard class you must put in your hours, but he is a very great professor, you will learn a lot from him. There is a lot of reading. I took this course with a friend and it was very helpful. You can use notes on your essay exams. Highly recommend if you want a prof that knows what he is talking about.
AMAZING teacher. If you are a poli sci student, you need to take his class. I am not that interested in political science, but he made the class interesting. All of his tests are essay form, but he gives you the questions before, and he even lets you bring a SINGLE notecard with you to class for the test. Great teacher. Enthutiastic for sure!
I definately recommend this class if you are a serious student and are ready to read and work for your grade. It is not a hard class just time consuming but he makes it very clear and is enthusiastic in his lectures.you wont fall asleep. Test are essay form but gives question ahead of time and lets you use a notecard.VERY pleased with this teacher!
Hands down the best teacher at avc. If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class or teacher for you. He loves his job and it shows it makes the class and subject way more interesting to learn which makes the class some what easy. You go to class you do the work you will pass the class and enjoy the time spent. I know i did.
Such an amazing teacher, the best at AVC. Although that's not an amazing accolade, he is incredible. The fact that I was awake and interested in an 8:00 class with often only 3-4 hours of sleep says a lot. If you value your education, and want to know the material, take him. If you want an easy class, skip it and stay oblivious.
Mr. Vento is a great teacher that keeps you in the classs. He thoroughly explains the subject matter so you can understand it. Do the cards and participate and you will do fine in the class.
You have to stay on top of your game with him. When he calls on you, make sure you have an answer. I would recommend him, but be sure to do your homework!
Vento is an amazing professor. This class has been my favorite class & professor. I hope to have him again someday.Vento has great passion, which keeps you interested the whole time.I never have looked forward to going to a class before. It's not an easy A but if you use the material he provides,do the card, and stay engaged you will pass this class.
A lot of work, but if you do it you will probably pass. It's important to be there because the tests (essays) are based off notes & lectures. He gives a study guide a few weeks prior, that has 3 possible essay questions (& whichever one he picks is the one you'll do that day) & allows a 5x7 notecard for notes. Interesting class and great professor.
I'm currently taking this class it's a lot of work but if you keep up with the work and pay attention in class it shouldn't be too hard. He's a little intense but hes just very passionate about his subject. I would take another one of his classes no questions asked.
Vento is the best. Will be one of my fav professors in my college career. Very passionate and expressive. Wants you to understand and THINK, so pay attention and you'll be fine. Be prepared to participate and be called on, especially if you don't volunteer. Take good notes, prepare your note cards well and the exams are easy. Recommended to all
The hardest class I've ever taken; HOWEVER, each paper and card he assigns is worth it. I've learned more from that single class than entire semesters of school. His classes sheds a brand new light on politics and the entire international world. Every class I will ever take will be compared to Vento's political science classes. He is an inspiration
Outstanding professor. He is very clear and explains politics unlike I've ever seen before. If you are a good student who participates regularly and don't believe in mindless nonsense conspiracies, take him! Warning: If you are emotionally susceptible to yelling or being kicked out of class for not preparing, don't take Vento.
If you want to succeed at a university you MUST TAKE VENTO. DO NOT plan to take his class to sit and text. PARTICIPATION is the key to an A. NO multiple choice tests, all essays. VERY DOABLE tests and assignments. Do not be afraid of his yelling, it is simply his passion for teaching. BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Go BRUINS!!!
Professor Vento is the best professor on campus. Whether you're a first-semester freshman or a student with a semester left , his class is a must. Bottom line: I'm grateful to have failed the Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics, because Vento taught better than my high school teacher as there is a balance in book-use and lectures.
Brilliant professor! He really cares about his students success and shows true compassion for what he teaches! A must take!
he is LOUD. but in a good way. you won't fall asleep in his class. if he catches you texting or your phone goes off he will kick you out. BIG UCLA fan. a lot of work but worth it. tests are essay based. he gives 5 possible essay questions but will only choose one, but you can use an 8X5 note card to fill in notes. would take again.
Super fun lectures. The home work is easy but time consuming. The tests are all essay based, but if you do the homework they are a breeze.
He is a really excellent teacher , his essays are really easy if you study and know the material, he is loud but keeps you entertain in class. I just love the way he teaches, best professor on campus!
Vento is the best professor at avc hands down. Do the online quizzes, the cards, and the study guide. Make sure you put in effort, it will be noticed.
Vento is the best teacher on campus. That being said, do NOT take his class if you aren't prepared to work your butt off. This was the hardest class I've ever taken, but it really prepared me for all my other classes, which seem easy as pie now. He gives you the exam questions ahead of time, so it makes the tests really easy. Homework prepares you
I just finished this class with flying colors - along with another 4 honorsoption courses. While it wasn't easy - with either essays, cards or readings due every meeting day - Vento's POLS 103 is definitely do-able and worth the time, because it buttresses analysis and critical thinking skills as well as confidence as you learn to speak up.
Great teacher!!! I took him for winter class it was hard and exhausted, but worth it !! You need to work, but he is really helpful!! Make sure you email him all your answers before each exam because it will help you to achieve a good grade!!
Great teacher. Enthusiastic and knows his stuff. Very loud! Will call on you to talk. Quizzes quizzes and more quizzes. Do well on cards and quizzes and will do good in class for the most part. Allows one 5x8 card for tests. Take notes and do cards and you will pass the tests.
My first college class ever taken was his and it was amazing! His lectures are participation oriented, loud, and so informative. He puts in a ton of work on his part to make sure you understand, you really feel as if he cares about each individual student. Lots of work and online quizzes though, but I would say he's the best teacher! Work hard!
Professor Vento is very engaging in his lectures & prepares you well in order to answer exam questions. All exams are comprehensive Essays. By far one of the best professors I have taken. Cares about you passing & pushes you to work for it. His lectures are never boring and pushes you to look at our government from different angles! TAKE HIM!!
By far my favorite professor I have ever had and will ever have. He is very specific with everything he does and everything he wants you to do. He makes you work for your grade but makes it worth it. You can tell he truly loves his job. Not majoring in pols but am considering taking pols 102 to be in his class again.
Vento is amazing! He truly cares if you are learning and is completely unbiased about politics.
Professor Vento is absolutely my favorite! He makes you engaged in class and is always very helpful! This was my first semester of college and he makes the class so interesting! I will definetly be taking his other classes!
Professor Vento is the best! His lectures are great, and he manages to stay unbiased about politics. He truly wants you to succeed and he will go out of his way to help you. His exams are pretty tough (expect to write a few pages) but he gives you plenty of time to prepare. I highly recommend this class if you actually want to learn something.
Vento is the most inspirational professor on campus. Genuinely cares about all of his students' education. He is constantly asking the class, "Everyone understand? Yes or no?" Clearly loves his job and he makes you want to attend class. Simply the best instructor I have ever had.
Let's be honest, political science isn't a class that is known for being fun to take. John Vento smashes that assumption. Homeboy is an amazing instructor. The lecture was always a blast. You will learn about the American political system. He is also very neutral on what his political beliefs are. So you can make up your own opinions. Vento rocks!
His classes are more like performances than actual lectures and his passion for politics or teaching is very obvious from the start. Be aware that he will assign more homework than a five credit class, the tests are written exams, and he expects your participation. It's imperative that you team up with your classmates and divide up the quizzes.
Vento is the most passionate professor I have had. He is there for his students and will help you ace your test as best he can. You will work hard in his class, it will be one of the toughest you will take, but you will also gain so much insight and knowledge its more than worth it. Show up to class, participate and above all do the reading!
One of a kind, this professor is just awesome, never a dull moment. You will learn from this course about government, no surprises. I recommend him to anyone that need to take Political Science course. Will take more courses from him because he is just that amazing. As long as you put effort you will pass.
Amazing Professor at AVC! Expect lots of homework in 5x8 card form and a good amount of papers, if you expect an easy A, don't take him. Great guy, he will always give you multiple chances and opportunities to reach your full potential. (Made me join honors too)
Professor Vento's class was incredible. He is very passionate about what he teaches and encourages student participation. I learned so much about the political process and would love to take another class with him.
I took this class during intersession. It wasn't easy, but I learned a TON. He really wants he's students to do well. If you end up with an A in the class its because you actually did some work. You'll have hw, quizzes, writing & reading assignments, & the lectures are pretty fast pace. Also if you want to get into the honors program he's your guy.
If you take this class, you will learn. Professor Vento seems very overwhelming at first, but as long as you show up and pay attention you will pass the essay tests just fine. His lectures are very entertaining, and he commands attention in the loudest yet funnest way possible. Do NOT screw around in his class, or you will be out of it. He's great.
Took him for winter , he is great. A lot of homework. Don't expect easy A . You gotta earn it. Homework is time consuming bit you learn a lot. Quizzes answers found on quizlet (most).. Be very specific in his cards and tests and make sure you participate. He cares about his students and wants you do succeed in his class. Glad i got it done
Mr. Vento is awesome, he gives a sufficient amount of homework &lays out in his syllabus his point system to calculate your grade. He is LOUD, energetic & fun not to mention hilarious. He doesn't treat you like a mediocre student but gets you involved & keeps you awake. Just do the homework, prep for the test & it's an easy A. Oh & don't diss UCLA
He was the best professor ever. He was so engaging during lectures and really made you think. Yeah there was a lot of work but it wasn't so bad considering you learned a lot from it. Plus he was hot lmao
John Vento may be the best lecturer I have ever had. I write this review as I prepare to transition to a PhD program in history. He helped me learn how to prepare for my undergrad course work by making me commit to organization and dedication. If you put in the effort, Vento will help you succeed. This is an essential class at AVC.
Prof. Vento was the best teacher I have had at AVC. He is a tough teacher, but his lectures are amazing, and he explains them so well that he makes you understand the hardest concepts. He hates phones out in class, loves participation. Always take notes, and make sure to do homework and you'll pass the class with flying colors.
BEST PROFESSOR HANDS DOWN. Took him for political science 101 & I loved the class. There's 4 exams, they're essays & he lets you bring a cheat sheet for every exam! Make sure to do your cards, definitely big part of your grade. & gives EXTRA CREDIT, he's super passionate about this subject. TAKE HIM
TAKE HIM!I don't know why anyone would take anyone other than Vento. Just fair warning if you're a major besides political science his classes will make you want to switch! He cares about student success. Don't expect multiple choice exams they all are essays. In this class be prepared to write 5, 7 pages papers but the topics are well structured.
He is awesome, you have to read or kinda stay with him so you dont get too lost, but if you are lost ASK! HE WANTS YOU TO GET IT! TAKE HIM! There are tests but as long as you read you will get a good grade. Everything goes with reading and HIS LECTURES take good notes on EVERYTHING. It will help on the test.
1-2 papers per week, online quizzes (quizlet), textbook reading, additional online reading (Blackboard), exams, midterm and final. Lectures are awesome! Would have given five stars except workload is too rigorous for a 3 unit course and your other classes may suffer for it. Would take again but only if I didn't have so many other classes/job.
Best class i have taken, even though in the beginning was doing bad, managed to pass his class. His lectures are amazing, and don't be afraid to talk, it helps your grade. When doing your cards, he means many pages, not just one card. Please take his class, you'll appreciate him afterwards, and thank him for educating you.
he's very funny and can make things very hilarious at times and there are cards to do in the class and for the exams he will go over the questions in class so make sure to take detail notes because he will look on the exam to see if you answered those questions fully and the cards you do as homework will also help on the exams as well.
VENTO is, hands down, the BEST professor on the AVC campus. The UCLA and CSUF graduate, enlightens and inspires the next generation of college students. He is a "modern professor" which means he adjusts to the changing dynamics of society and technology. If you want an A in any of his classes, make sure he KNOWS YOUR NAME! Phenomenal Instructor!
Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. His lectures are so informative but he is so humorous, you'll be laughing for most of the class time. There is a lot of hw so if you want to slack, dont take his class. His tests are doable because he gives you the essay question before hand and you can use one notecard.
Vento's a great guy. Definitely loved and respected by all his students. He really cares about the individuals. That said, I didn't like how class discussions weren't guided. Felt chaotic, and hard to learn sometimes. He's all into the Socratic method, which means he asks questions and lets students arrive at their own answers instead of teaching.
You want to learn, take this class. If you stay away, participate and show up, its impossible not to get an A.
Hands down the best professor at AVC and the most influential and helpful professor I've personally had. His passion for the class topic makes it that much more interesting. Participate, take good notes and do the work and you'll pass the class.
Vento actually makes you enjoy going to school. Very funny and explains the work perfectly. oh, and he's good looking lol
I learned a lot taking his class, but on my own time. He rarely lectures and depends on learning through the class discussions. Unfortunately I am a political science major and had to take his class multiple times. DO NOT take his class if you have extreme social anxiety, for he will continue to call you out and embarrass you
Professor Vento is the best professor for anyone who is actually interested to LEARN! He is always giving articles to read about current events and even past events that relate to the lecture. He is extremely passionate and really motivates his students to be "consumers of good knowledge." DO NOT EXPECT AN EASY A!! He is extremely handsome as well.
I'm glad I followed the reviews on RMP, HOWEVER, Vento is quite loud and enthusiastic-which makes lecture entertaining and discussions interactive. If you're a textaholic, you'll be singled out A LOT. Unlike other professors, he teaches you about California's government and gives you the exact questions from the exams (which are a gamble later on).
Do yourself a favor and take his class. He cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. The homework usually requires research, but each assignment helps you on the test.
Gives very long "cards" for homework; lots of questions. Tests are essays but he gives you the two possible prompts that will show up on the test but will only pick one so write essays for both. Can use 5x8 card on test. Lectures are based solely on the questions, helps very much when writing the essays. Best lectures I have ever sat through, funny
Best teacher that I have ever listened to. He roars with excitement and is very passionate about the subject. He is head of the honors program and I suggest that he is the best teacher to take for learning political science. And, be ready to learn. He needs to run for President, he's that good!!!!
The class is entirely discussion based. For me that was really difficult to get past. Expect a overwhelming amount of homework and essays. He grade things and does not tell you how you can improve. Essays are very difficult.
Mr. Vento is the best! He truly loves the subject he teaches. Homework online. Essay Question tests but you can write or type up whatever you can fit on a 5x8 note card to use for the test. Use lots of lecture and article examples! That's the key! Take him now! Do you understand yes or no!? ---You'll understand that reference if you take him. :)
Professor Vento is one of the funniest teacher at AVC. This guy will keep you entertained at all times. He is also very knowledgeable and passionate about his topic. His honors class seemed overwhelming at first, but if you follow all his instructions, you'll get an easy A. Oh, avoid wearing USC shirt or color, he'll kick you out of class lol.
A really hard class. I would have learned more if there wasn't so many discussions. He kind of expects you to teach yourself through cards you do at home. His lectures are entertaining. I would have enjoyed his class more if I was not taking so many other classes with this one. You get a lot of points by discussion which was hard to do for me.
very intense class. Since I'm taking so many classes this semester it is very difficult for me. Discussions are almost every single day, so if you like that kind of stuff this is the class for you, however if you are shy (like me) it will be extremely challenging. He continues to call people out. Doesn't give feedback on cards or essays.
Professor Vento was an excellent professor. He's very loud which makes the class enjoyable and since he's very passionate about politics, his lectures are never boring. Loved his class & he's also a very sexy, good looking guy so it was easy to go to class everyday.
He is a great professor. The only class i looked forward too. He is very loud and loves what he teaches. He is not one of those teachers who don't care and are boring, you actually learn in his class and time goes by fast. The class is just a lot of work.
Mr. Vento is an awesome teacher and really is passionate about his subject. He gives tons of reading!! And there is homework due every class, you will learn in this class! You also have to talk and engage in discussions or else he will call you out and pick on you during class.
He is tough, loud, passionate and WILL call you out. Make sure you know the answer to his question if he picks you. The first time he called on me I didn't know the answer; you better believe I knew it the next time. Do the work, show up, be engaged and you should do fine. He can be intimidating but he's a great teacher. Highly recommended.
Profesor Vento is a good professor. They make this usually boring subject, for myself personally, fun. This was a great introductory class.
I just love Vento so much!! He is an extremely ordinary teacher that cares about what is going on around the world. He will make you a consumer of good information by the end of the semester. He wants the best for his student and will always be straightforward. Do all your cards and you will pass the test. BE ACTIVE!! He loves participation.
Best class I have ever had. The teacher is passionate about his subject, and gives amazing lectures that make you want to come to class. He gives lots of homework. If you take this class you will leave with a heightened sense of critical thinking. You'll learn how to make more informed decisions too. TAKE THIS CLASS! He's got them jokes.
This is a man who can make the most boring subject in the world interesting with his jokes and unparalleled enthusiasm for the subject. From explaining how free speech works to animated explanations on explosions, this class will give you the tools you need to be a good student. Bonus points: Fun, critical thinking, effort needed, funny exCred
Hands down, Vento is the best teacher I have taken through college and high school. He is so passionate about the subject, it makes it so exciting. You will not regret this class. It is a lot of work, but he gives you everything you need to know, and you will not struggle trying to stay awake. His lectures make the hours fly by. Love Vento!!!!
You learn in this class! It's your responsibility to be attentive and responsible. Prof Vento makes his grading policy and the questions he wants answered very clear. It is in your hands to be specific in answering the question. Be on time. DON'T skip class-everything he says has meaning. Intimidating but don't let that fool you. Very entertaining.
Vento is by far the best political science professor at AVC. He's an awesome guy and just make sure you keep up with the work and take advantage of extra credit and other opportunities he offers.
Vento genuinely wants his students to understand how the government and society works and to become good consumers of information. He not only gives you a clear understanding of what he wants and teaches but also teaches you the importance of group discussion and the difference/ similar opinion of others.
I have learned so much in this class. he honestly wants you to learn and as long as you pay attention and take notes you will be fine. he is passionate about what he teaches and gives you everything you need for the tests. Overall, If you really want to learn I would take him. He does not like tardiness and cell phones.
He is very passionate about the class and you can certainly tell, he gives clear grading criteria, study guides, the homework helps ALOT with exams, and he explains and gives examples in lectures all the time. Great teacher, easy to pass the class if you're willing to put in a couple hours a week. Definitely would take him again.
He is a really good Professor, he cares about you and makes the subject relevant and interesting. He has a good attitude. Do your work, don't be lazy and you'll be fine! BEST TEACHER AT THIS SCHOOL.
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN! I learned soooo much from Vento, I sat right in the front and let me warn you right now HE IS LOUD hes clearly very passionate about this subject. As long as you do all your homework and do the study guides (both questions!) youll get an A. I recommend Vento to everyone taking poli sci
amazing teacher. literally if you do the study guide for his test like he says you will pass the class and send him your stay guide in an email and you get great feedback on what to fix if you are not sure about the answer but above all he was great to take and he wasn't extra with the work he wanted as long as you did the notecards (easy)
Professor Vento was awesome!! He has no problem holding your attention, his lectures are captivating and so informative. You work for your grade but he'll be your cheerleader! I think the best thing about this class is he teachers lessons that you will use the rest of your life as an American. Take Vento!!
He is by far the most passionate professor Ive met. He follows his syllabus, discusses everything he expects you to understand and tests you on exactly that. He is extremely energetic; the lectures will keep you up. He actively encourages us to be better consumers of information. If youre not prepared or disruptive, he will ask you to leave.
John Vento is just about the best professor at AVC, he makes you earn your grade, his exams are entirely essay based, and there are weekly cards to turn in, if you just want to tack on an extra class, be prepared to work. Aside from his strict classroom rules, every class is entertaining, and he will make you participate, not to mention he's LOUD
He is the Jedi of political science at this school. He will make you work hard so you can have the force to fight American idiocy and the evil Empire of greedy, corrupt politicians and also to be a well informed citizen.
The most CARING, PASSIONATE and LOUDEST little man I've ever seen. Reminds me of an espresso. He really cares about poli sci and doesn't even let his views cloud his judging- or his teaching. Cares about all his students. HATES USC- don't EVER mention "the devil school". Exams are open notes exam and he provides the question three weeks prior.
By Far the best Professor. Polisci used to be a subject I struggled with till I took Ventos class. You will learn and youll be intrested to! Great lectures, lots of homework, class discussion. He makes it easy to understand maybe because hes SO loud but hilarious! Inspiring, passionate about politics and gives great assign. You wont regret it
AMAZING TEACHER! I took him for intersession for his 8am class and even though it was so early in the morning his energy while teaching this class woke me right up. Even though it was really fast since it was for 1 month it was worth it! DO YOUR CARDS! They help out A LOT for the in class discussions and open note tests. Would take him again :)
Probably the most energetic and interesting professor I have ever had. I recommend you take him if you want to learn and challenge yourself. He will help you if you help yourself. He has no problem dismissing you if you are unprepared, rude, or disruptive so keep that in mind when in class. Overall I had a great time in his class.
Be prepared, and do your cards!!!!!!
Probably the best professor at AVC. Extremely passionate about politics and actually makes it interesting. I used to hate politics before this class but he made me like it. You do "cards" every week for homework and read then discuss in class. Tests are greenbook so study and write down everything you remember first then set up your paper.
Okay, I actually took Vento for 101 and I loved him. His passion for what he does is what makes you want to learn and do the homework. He's really funny and his classes are amazing for discussion. He is a much harder grader for 103- the essays and the cards, but he's understanding and still my favorite professor.
very very interesting and loud teacher but loved this class. it is a lot of work so do your homework and take good notes. very funny and will keep you interested very entertaining. do not show up late and have your cards ready on the day of. i highly recommend him and i learned a few things and learned to appreciate the government.
Easy class. He is very loud and arrogant. I did not learn anything. Other political science professors are much better.
Forget the negative reviews *cough* like the one below *cough* Professor Vento is one of the best professors that you'll probably ever have at AVC! He's that good! Just do you work (be prepared to work hard) and you'll pass. You'll never forget what you learn in class!
Awesome professor. There is a lot of reading in his classes, but the readings are informational and interesting. Participation matters a lot in his class. Class is more discussion based, which is not boring at all. I would definitely recommend this professor if you wish to learn politics.
Professor Vento's POLS101 class was the hardest class that I have ever done. Be prepared to work your hardest. He expects a lot from his students. He treats his normal political science class as an honors course even though it isn't. You could work the hardest you've ever done, but that won't be good enough. His tests are extremely hard
Although he gave out sooo much homework/papers/assignment that overlapped with one-another. I truly enjoyed being in this class. He makes the environment intriguing. Cards are the key for passing the class. It will help you so much for essays, exams, and other assignment he provides. Gives out lots of extra credit. Overall great and amazing.
My biggest issue with Vento was we never received any feedback on homework or papers. So I never knew what I needed to improve on. The workload was ridiculous. But his lectures keep things interesting. Overall he was a good/funny professors. Dont take his class if you dont like coming to class, you wont pass.
He is the best professor I have had by far. I took him for the summer, and even though it was kind of a lot of work it was still manageable. He knows how to keep your attention during his lectures and you really learn so must in his class. He is the most passionate professor Ive ever met and I plan on taking another of his classes in the future.
Its my first semester here yet Vento is already pushing for Best teacher. His lectures are very engaging, he truly does give everything to get an A on the tests but they are ESSAYS, no multiple choice. Hes very neutral in class which I think is essential for Poly Sci teachers. Be ready to stay on top of work and for a top tier learning experience
This was my first semester at AVC, and I can honestly say Vento has been my favorite professor thus far. His lectures are dynamic; they don't bore you to death, and his vivd personality makes them even better. He does give lengthly homework assignments, but they are essential to passing his class. He geniuenley cares for his students.
If you want to learn, take Professor Vento! You will be reading a lot, including plenty of supplementary material. You will be writing a TON throughout the semester. He grades based on thoroughness of the argument, not opinion. However, he doesnt give much feedback. His lectures are exciting, but he often uses crass language.
Mr. Vento is one of the funniest professors I ever had. It makes sure you learn the material while always making sure you are attentive. He calls on the people who do not raise their hand (Shy people) so beware. He checks attendance the first 2 weeks then you don't have to show up. Some coursehero submissions are his beware. Ask what he wants on hw
He has a test which are essay questions you must answer, the difficult thing is answering the question in the short time span of the class. Luckily he gives you additional time for these test when class is over. If you can, DONT HAVE A CLASS AFTER VENTO. This is so you can have extra time on this exam while not missing your next class.
Although the class is informational, he is too loud and talks to much about sports. Take another professor, if you want someone calmer.
if u want a challenge hes the one to take, VENTO INSPIRES. very humorous. he wants u to EARN ur grade, i achieved that! He wants his students to succeed but he cant help U if U don't help yourself, DONT MISS CARDS/ QUIZZES STUDY! TAKE NOTES DURING LECTURES. CARDS AND EXAMS HE WANTS UR PERSPECTIVE AND OPINION PUT EFFORT INTO UR CARDS! U CAN DO IT
Professor Vento's classes are one of those classes you have to work hard for. If your a slacker, you might struggle. Overall it's not a hard class if you put in the effort. Make sure to always go in-depth on assignments and exams because he grades on how in-depth you are.
Vento is not a professor that just hands out As, you earn your grade in his class. You can tell that Vento loves what he does and is passionate about the subject. You will be jammed with homework but the exams are straight from the homework so make sure to do the work! Take plenty of notes during the lectures as well.
Prof. Vento the homie on god, me and him aint see eye to eye at first and I already dont like school but he helped me out. Youll learn a lot from him, in life and political science
John Vento is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and always shows up on time. He'll make you laugh but beware of the homework you really have to finish the homework. Honestly one of the best professors on campus
This Professor should NOT be teaching. His lectures are not beneficial, if you want to understand Political Science be ready to self teach like you have to do with a lot of instructors at this campus. He gives excessive work and puts on a personality like he is caring but in actuality he is calculating and does not want to see you succeed.
Avoid at all cost
Okay, literally. Vento pops cough drops during his lectures because he's THAT loud and THAt energetic. i personally thought that was great and really got a kick from his lectures,, but just know that his workload is infamous for a friggin reason. you'll learn, but you'll also be reading and writing like stephen king. take him but be wary imo
All hype! This guy has obvious favorites. You have to really suck up to be on his good list. Very unfortunate if you just want to regurgitate the same crap he says, take him
Best professor ever. Serious work load. As a student in this major, I loved every class. My writing, study habits, reading habits, and overall academic ability got better. His classes were always the bright spot of my days among the real dull classes at AVC. I don't know why he isn't at another Uni. Real gem indeed. PREPARE FOR HEAVY WORK LOAD.
Amazing professor. He really cares about the major and the subject matter, which shows in his teaching. Good teacher and friend. General class was amazing and the honors option meetings were amazing as well. It was good to have a small group of motivated students to work with him on future class material as well. Absolute best professor at AVC.
Great professor. Very passionate. You have to make sure you actually have time for his assignments because they are quite time consuming. I ended up dropping the class because I didn't have time to do the assignments, but he is a wonderful professor. It's my fault that I am not in there. Helps out with any questions. Classes are fun to attend.
He is loud and can be very rude. He only likes a few people and if your not it hes mean. He has a lot of work and is a tough grader. Gives little feedback. Complains about being late. I would find a different instructor.
Professor Vento is TOUGH. Do not take this class if you're not ready to WORK. He ABSOLUTELY cares about his students, but you need to have a thick skin because he jokes a lot. He calls you out in class if you don't participate. YOU WILL WORK. We started with 75+ students, standing room only, and ended with 25 or less. I learned a lot.
Lectures are class discussions. Expect to participate. Do not buy the hard copy of the book! Buy the online version and save money! Vento is tough, especially for Honors. Took me 8 weeks to warm up to him, but if you give your best effort into assignments and participate (participation points!!), you'll be fine.
Took John Vento for intersession 2019. He is very enthusiastic and will not be bored. He cares about the students and his exams are pretty good because he lets us use a half sheet of paper which can be used front and back and just make to sure to add a lot of info on it and you should pass the class. His quizzes are easy. The cards were alright.
If youre a POLS major it makes sense to take him because hes very passionate about this subject, if you arent RUN in the other direction, this was the hardest class Ive ever taken, I had to drop 2 of my 4 classes just to keep up, his homework is a nightmare from hell, he doesnt care that you may have other responsibilities outside of his class
Prof. Vento is a UC-wolf in community-college clothing. He is by far the hardest professor at AVC, but here's the catch: Once you get used to him, AVC and then Harvard become a cakewalk. He grades obscurely, motivates hard, and teaches extremely well. He's a dictator with a heart of Swiss gold; he'll make a success out of you.
Vento is one of the best teachers I've taken at AVC. He does require his students to put in the effort to learning the material. It's a heavy workload but it prepares you for the exams! YOU MUST GO TO CLASS (he breaks down all the information for you). If you do all the work asked of you and show up you'll do just fine in his class!
You better not use coursehero to look up the answers for the cards, some of those cards are his own that he uploaded. Be very careful. Overall great professor, I appreciated him.
Awful- He straight up will tell you that you will fail, and leave you at that.
Every other class will seem easy after this class! Be prepared for a heavy workload and to never miss a class if you want to succeed. This class will become your priority, so make sure to account for it in your schedule. Lectures are funny, informative, and impactful. Make sure to wear USC clothes the first day of class to get on his good side!
Great professor would definetely take again
The best professor I've had although the workload with the cards is a lot he makes the lectures fun and interesting and you learn a lot from in class lectures.
Told me I was going to fail and nothing else no help at all
I dont usually come on here, but I figured it was necessary to rate Professor Vento. He is one of the most amazing professors I've taken. I only say that because he is so passionate about what he teaches and you learn a lot from him if you're willing to learn. Don't feel discouraged by his work, it is extremely doable.
Vento is definitely not an easy A, but when you come out with a good grade it makes you feel proud. He has a very loud personality, but it keeps you awake and truly shows his passion about the topic. He has a lot of homework and the exams are essay based, but everything is truly VERY interesting. His teaching method makes the information stick
Be prepared if taken in a 16 week session he will assign loads of homework that your grade highly depends on so don't skip any assignments. He's very accessible via email and outside of class if you have multiple questions about an assignment he'll take his time out and help you. Prepares you definetly for the UC system.
Amazing is an understatement. The lead review speaks volumes. Vento is everything unconsciously wanted in a professor, and I love his personality. Never a dry moment in his class. With that said, the work can be one heck of a challenge, but it's worth pulling through to the end. Polisci isn't even my major, but he definitely made it interesting.
Awesome teacher!!! Hes a tough grader but hell help you if need be. The cards will help you with his exams.
John Vento is probably the most ridiculous Professor Ive ever met. He has to yell to get his point across. Not only yell but bang on the walls as well. He absolutely has no regard or respect for the classrooms near him at all. He sends numerous emails harassing students saying Easy class, take my class open seats, easy A hes very deceiving.
I love this man so much. I have never enjoyed a class as much as this one bc of Vento. I almost wanted to change my major. There is a lot of work but if you do it and put in the time you can get an A. I ended the semester with a 97 which is my highest grade ever. I wish there were more characters to describe this man and his class but just take it.
Professor Vento is one of the best professors on campus. He will keep you engaged in the material. I definitely recommend you take his 201 class if you want to understand why the US doesn't intervene in international issues. Vento lays out the work and always provides extra help if you're struggling. Take on the challenge, you won't regret it.
Beware this professor rates himself. He makes you do an ungodly amount of work for no reason, his cards have like 30 topics and each topic is 1 paragraph of research and writing and you have 2 of these due every week. TOO MUCH WORK FOR A 3 credit class
Professor Vento has a really good lecture. There is a lot of homework in class; do good on the cards and you'll pass.
John Vento has to be the hardest teacher I have ever had in my life! The workload was extremely heavy, and I had to work hard and diligently to get good grades in the assignments but it was worth it in the end. Vento just wants you to apply yourself, and he brings the best out of you. It will reward you later. I was further educated and its worth it
I just had to come back after 101. As I've said before, his personality is magnetic. His likability distracts me from the hell of a workload he assigns. On that note, the essays really probe you to consider the benefits of different forms of government and the detriments to our own, and it couldn't be more timely with 2020's contemporary events.
Vento is the hardest professor ive taken at AVC, I finished the semester online due to Covid-19 therefore I dont know how it wouldve been in class but I really enjoyed his lectures and yes the hw and exams (essays) are long and hard but the hw and lectures prepare you for the exams. If youre willing to put in the work you will succeed!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! If Im being honest I dont usually comprehend whats going on in most my classes, and hes the only teacher I have actually enjoyed listening to and understood the material he taught. He is HILARIOUS and treats his class like family! There is a heavy work load, but if you put the effort in you will pass!! TAKE HIM!!!
If you don't mind writing 3 essays weekly, knock yourself out and take him. Heavy workload, lots of homework and independent studying. Makes you do these Card assignments weekly that are basically a thousand+ word essays. Other than that he's friendly and responsive when you email him.
This professor is a very good lecturer. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 - 10:50 and he lectures the entire time both meetings. Every week he assigns two of these assignments called cards that are very large assignments that have at least 10 topics and ends up at a thousand+ words. If you take this class prepare to sign your life away.
Vento is one of the best teachers as AVC. You can tell he loves what he does and it makes class more interesting and fun. He always goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is understanding and on the same page. There is a lot of work & reading but the knowledge you gain is worth it in the end!
Professor Vento's the guy to take if you want credit and to learn something. He's really enthusiastic about his job, and treats his students like his own family. His homework workload is extreme, quizzes and his "cards," which are basically two 10+ page essays a week. You'll definitely earn your grade in his class, work hard and you'll pass.
I am lazy and enjoy the easy way out. However, it all changed with Vento. I havent had this much of a work load but it was worth it. The work was pretty easy for me and the curriculum is very comprehensive. He also gives a good amount of e.c which is helpful! Hes super energetic and funny which makes the class even better!
Vento is an interesting character. Hes like a show when hes in a classroom but he makes the class entertaining. Hes main goal is to make you work for your grade, so youll have to do a good amount of research. Also dont try cheating hell know, he posts his own answers online. If youre not will to learn and do the work this class isnt for you
Professor Vento is one of my favorite college Professors yet! He takes education to the next level by immersing you in classic & modern readings and by including everyone in each class meeting. His workload is immense with essays due nearly every week but it is worth it to really learn.
I took his class over the summer and it was so overwhelming the first two weeks, but if you plan on majoring in this area of study, then take him! His lectures are great and although you have a lot of work to do, you really learn a lot and the course is never boring. You have cards, essays, and quizzes to complete, but Vento wants you to learn!
Probably one of the worst professors I've had on campus. Even taking a few classes during the semester lead to an unbearable workload. Doing the equivalent of two 1500 word essays a week is unreal for a 101 class.
Professor Vento is very energetic and his lectures are interesting. However, the workload is way too much for working college students trying to further their education. It's practically impossible to complete all the work and readings unless you literally stay home all day and don't have a full time job.
He is a very good professor, but wow is his workload heavy. You will be up for hours just finishing his cards which are almost 1000+ word papers. But this is the only class where I can say that Ive learned something Im because doing the work forces you to learn. All in all great guy, hard class but not impossible, and you will actually learn.
I took professor Vento during the summer online and I loved it. The workload is intimidating and I definitely contemplated dropping the course but his energy made logging in to zoom worth it and through all that work, I was forced to learn so much. Highly recommend, I've never had an "I'm so grateful I stuck it out" moment with a class until this 1
Vento is nice and makes political science interesting, even if it's not your major. However, his class comes with a heavy workload so be ready to work!
Professor Vento is the best; he believes in his students to such an incredible extent. Don't psych yourself out! Take his class!
This Professor is passionate about teaching and making sure we understand! Lots of writing but worth it! He offers extra credit often and is available to his students and takes situations into consideration! I'm definitely taking him again!
John Vento is the right professor to take if you plan to really understand the study of political science. Workload is overwhelming, no doubt about that, but he offers easy extra credit almost every other week since we are online learning. He keeps the class entertained with his energetic persona and I strongly recommend taking this honors course.
Vento is a great professor. He is passionate and loves his job. He will make you read and lots of homework but you will learn. I was scared to take his class because I had a class at one point close to his and you can hear him across the hall. He is passionate and always available for office hours. gives you extra credit and he wants you to learn.
For Summer 2020, this class was way tamer than his polisci courses; the cards were way less intensive. What's interesting is that the way he gets you to learn is the same; I never thought I'd know so much about environmental regulations. He for sure lives up to his reputation, so take advantage by asking for help and engaging in discussions.
Hard work can really pay off when followed by healthy constructive criticism. Don't expect that from Vento. He works us to the bone and gives minimal feedback. If you're taking only this 3 credit course, have time on your hands, and are ready to work your butt off you'll do fine. Should be worth 10 credits.
Absolutely horrible. SO much work, especially for 101. I took him once, got an F, decided to give him another shot, had to drop the class. He talks really fast and says things like You understand this? every other word. Its so distracting and annoying that I could barely think about anything else. I dont understand why so many people like him
He made such a dull subject vibrant and hilarious. Amazing energy it sucks I'm not a PoliSci major or else I would keep taking his courses.
Vento is a great professor. He gives a lot of work and readings but u r guaranteed to learn! Do all the work and u will be fine. But if u can't write 800 words per assignment, dont take his class. His exams r also a lot. They have a 1600 word minimum. He is also a though grader, just because you do the work doesnt mean you will get full credit.
I took the class and up to the end there was still possibility that maybe I would pass with a C because there are a couple of assignments that are graded until the VERY end of class. The first month will be hard! but the workload does not become less but it get easier, I LEARNED A LOT
Professor Vento is the best, I came out of the class with a 96.5%! The class itself is intense with the 1200-1600 word assignments but man are they interesting! He gives out a lot of UCLA related x-credit, so if your a USC fan and on the verge of a letter grade, get ready to betray the University of Spoiled Children and do the 8-Clap!!
great and engaging professor but seriously if you have a job or other heavy classes don't take him. the homework is a lot but you do learn about government. he was a tough grader not gonna lie but he does give out extra credit. if you want to learn, take him. also mention ucla
I took Professor Vento for the Summer. What I could say is yes, he give you a lot of homework and he does call on you to participate, but I found this method way better because it gave me the opportunity to learn about the materials more efficiently. He gives lots of extra credit which does help your grade! Most importantly he is all about UCLA!!!!
I took the 6 week summer course, This professor is very passionate about the subject he teaches. You learn a lot! He is a great teacher although if you are not capable of reading extensively or writing a lot then you should not take this professor as you need a lot of time to dedicate to the class. I wrote around 160 pages total within 6 weeks.
Ok, Vento is great, I took him for Pol101, Get ready for lots of homework and a crazy amont of lectures. Make sure your wear number 22 in USC to get on his good side!
A great professor!! His lectures are amazing everything sticks with you but h.w is heavy.
He is my favorite professor out of all the ones I have EVER had! He is hilarious and is very passionate about Political Science. He gives a good amount of homework, but after a while, I learned that the homework is so interesting and fascinating! I highly recommend taking him!!
Absolutely loved his class! I came out of that class learning a lot! I took him fully online. He has a great way of teaching and is rather understanding. He gives a decent amount of homework but it was not really all that hard, really just do the work and youll pass. I wouldve gotten a better grade had I not missed as many assignments!
Professor Vento is awesome. I enjoyed his class a lot, but I did take the 6 week summer course so the homework was very intense. If you have a job or heavy classes, don't take this one. But, regardless, he grades fair and is very understanding if you miss assignment here and there because he understands that the work can be a bit much.
Highly recommend to take this professor if you truly want to learn! If you're looking for an easy A you won't find that here! Vento is a total experience!
Vento is truly an amazing and engaging teacher. He will get to know everyone by first name basis by mid semester. He is very engaging and honestly just a great person. The workload is insanely large, but very informative and interesting. Dont procrastinate!! Dive in and get it done.
Professor Vento is a great professor, but is very stingy with the grades he gives out. If your paper does not wow him, you wont get all the full points for it.
This is one of the hardest classes I've taken so far but Vento made it much more enjoyable. The lectures and assignments were always interesting and I learned a lot about political science and governing. There is a lot of reading and writing and he grades hard (with minimal feedback), but if you're a proficient writer you shouldn't have a problem.
Great Class! I struggled a bit yet still stuck out with an A. Just try (and try hard) and you'll pass!
Professor Vento is amazing but does require attendance and be prepared to read and write prior to every class meeting. If you want to learn about politics, Vento is the professor to take!
John Vento is a very enthusiastic teacher and he has great lectures that allow you to really understand what he is teaching. I liked going to class because he makes you feel awake and ready to learn. However, he does give a lot of homework assignments about 2 cards which need 400-800 words, per week including the quizzes for the textbooks online.
SOAR students do not take this class unless you have a lot of free time and are planning to spend about 5 hours a week with homework and reading the textbook because this class will take a lot of time from your day which will be useful for work in other classes.
If you take his class be ready to read ALOT for homework, but it extremely interesting and his lectures are very engaging.
This was an interesting class. He will persuade you to participate in both past and present events. Yes, there will be a lot of writing, so prepare for it and make time to prioritize this class. If you engage and show that you genuinely care, the class will get simpler to manage over time. It was enjoyable for me, so I recommend it.
The professor is really a great teacher that makes the material easy to understand to do the work. The assignments are easy if you review the material and do not procrastinate. The tests and quizzes are easy to do and actually cover what we go over in class. On assignments, he gives us great feedback when we finish them and encourages us to finish.
Vento's class is a lot of work, but it's because he wants to develop his students. He truly cares for everyone in the class and it's reflected in how he makes an effort to interact with everyone, such as asking what people did on the weekend. Lots of reading and writing, and he grades very honestly, but you can go to daily office hours for help
I learned more about politics in his class than I learned in my 4 years of high school. You are required to do a lot of work but if you pace yourself, it doesn't seem that bad. Sometimes he is very funny, and he makes the lectures engaging. I will be taking him again in the future, I don't mind doing a lot of work. I recommend him for any PS class.
I HAVE A LOT TO SAY BUT THIS ONLY ALLOWS FOR 350 CHARACTERS!!! Vento is wonderful, the lectures are amazing, and his modus operandi is magnificent! there is never a dull moment in his class! a friendly warning from a fulltime student and fulltime worker: YOU NEED BETTER TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS THAN MINE!! overall, i loved Vento and so will you!
Vento is the best prof I have had. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes class very engaging and fun. However, I only recommend taking him if you're a Poli Sci major, or if you just want to experience a Vento class (which is valid) just because of the work load. I wrote about 1000-2000 words a week and there was a 3000 word final.
Amazing Professor and all that but the only downside to this class is the homework. It's a lot, A LOT of homework, I only recommend this class if you have a lot of free time. Other than that Vento is an amazing Professor and truly loves his job, his lectures are interesting, he is nice and funny, also loves to hear others opinions/views on things.
The amount of reading and writing is insane. Seriously, nobody here is overstating how much work it is. With that being said, only take him if you actually want to learn about Political Science. You're going to learn so much. I need to stop typing now. The carpal tunnel syndrome this class gave me is kicking in. Take his class.
Professor Vento is really passionate. Participation is very important in his class. He is also funny and look forward to formal Tuesdays(bow tie) Although the work load is insane, I would definitely take another class if I had to. If you are ready to learn, go ahead and add his class.
Amazing professor, although get ready to do tons of home work and reading! If your a political science major DEFINITLY take Vento's classes and as many of them as you can, I would say he teachers the material incredibly well and it is definitely worth it, but be ready for the research cards!
Class is not easy. He takes it very seriously.
Too much work for an intro class. Be prepared to write a lot. You're graded on cards which are essentially essays every week. Only has a high rating because he also rates himself so be warned. A perfect representation of someone that went to UCLA. Self-absorbed and overbearing. Don't take this class if you aren't a polsci major.
This guy slays my life. John Vento is a MANNNN. Okay, anyways, Amazing teacher, but absolutely insane workload. I'm doing good in his class right now, but it's taking all my effort. He's really cool and a super-genius, you'll fall in love with him. I can see the reasoning behind the negative comments, but the good outweighs the bad. You learn a lot
Vento was a really nice guy very very passionate about political science and wanted you to leave with a very nuanced understanding of its ins and outs. I will say however there were a lot of papers like one every tues./thur. 5-7 pages each but the topics were interesting at least. Super enjoyable lectures, so it made up for it. I recommend him.
Love Vento, this man is on crack with the amount of energy he brings. Youre going to have to do a crap load of work for the cards. Its honestly not that hard TURN THEM IN ON TIME! Use socratic for the inquisitive quizzes and youll be fine.
Do not take this class if you value your sanity and time. His assignments are basically papers you have to do, he calls them "cards". It is two of them every week. Not to mentioin his lectures are so boring and awful. He rambles and goes off topic and he is so ridiculous. Do not take this class if you value your sanity and time.
Extremely rude and his jokes can quickly become obnoxious. The homework was mediocre difficulty but was very heavy, the "cards" were normally 800 words minimum but sometimes can be more. twice a week btw. If you would like an A you'll have to write double his word count to get an A he most def skims and uses word count. Be ready to get made fun of
I promise you that you will not regret taking Professor Vento. Yes, his class includes a lot of writing, but I cannot emphasize how much my writing has improved thanks to him. The amount of writing makes future papers seem like a breeze. He really does care about every single student and he makes it known.
Professor Vento is a passionate lecturer yes, however, this does not take away from the fact that his course load is more than most 4-year professors for 101 "Cards" which have you watching a couple of videos and read articles and write 400-800 words for each card twice a week, Online textbook hw that he barely reminds you of, and a 3k word Final.
Vento is seriously one of the best professors I've had since starting college. He is a really tough grader but he gives lots of extra credit opportunities (that are really easy to complete btw) and is really passionate about his subject. LOTS of work so be careful and try not to fall behind. 10/10 guy though, definitely learned a lot in his class.
Vento's class was a blast! My class created a discord and we all helped motivate/ bounce ideas off each other. Veto does assign a lot of work but it heavily prepares you for the final. However if you are majoring in STEM then perhaps it's not be the best way to spend time. The weekly cards are very time consuming but overall I had a great time.
John Vento is the man. Everyone on earth should take his 101. You learn a lot and build so many skills. Homework is insane, but you can do it. He's also very understanding with it so don't stress so much. He does like to pick on people but it's all love. I love political science now :D
One of the best professors I have taken at AVC. He's funny and teaches political science in depth well. His lectures are energetic and keep you awake. The class can be challenging because of the time-consuming homework which is due each week, but if you can keep up, this class could be an easy A for you.
Vento is one of the best professors AVC has. He is hilarious and teaches in a way that's engaging but effective. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS! You're going to need them for the final. And don't push off doing assignments; it'll kill your grade if they're always late. But I loved his class and almost switched my major to poly-sci because of it.
I was not very interested in Political Science before i started this class but Vento is an amazing professor and makes learning enjoyable. There is a lot of work but as long as you pay attention and do your homework you should pass the class. He also cares about each student. Though you need to know how to manage your time if you take this class.
Professor Vento assigns too much work. You have to write thousands of words each week, sometimes twice a week just for an A- on each assignment. These assignments are basically useless to you if you don't spend at least 12 hours doing additional research. Personality doesn't redeem the insane amount of work required to pass. Avoid at all costs.
Vento was ridiculous. I loved his energy but I could not stand his work. I by no means am lazy and I can pop out 800 words a week. However, he was an incredibly harsh grader. It took a toll on my grade, and I knew I had to withdraw. He seemed fun but the feedback on the work I genuinely tried hard on really sucked. He wouldn't elaborate why either.
A lot of work for a 101 class. Not understanding. If you have other responsibilities other than school take another professor to earn an A with less effort. Going above and beyond won't guarantee you full credit. His lectures are engaging. Save yourself if you aren't pursuing POLSCI or related field. Not worth the stress!!!!
Great guy, amazing lectures, will make you interested in political science. It is a lot of writing but simply don't be LAZY and it is an easy and interesting class.
This man assigned an ungodly amount of work for any class ever. However, despite my hate for the amount of work I was assigned, the entirety of the information I consumed was interesting and useful. I had plenty of time to do all of the assignments I missed some and still passed so take that as you will. I would absolutely take this course again.
Vento is a great professor by any means but he assigns a ton of work. First weekly cards get longer and more difficult by the week, but this will benefit you for that final paper. LISTEN TO HIM EVERY LECTURE he gives you the main points needed for this final paper and it's 3000 words so plan accordingly. You"ll end up hating inquisitive too.
Vento is a super cool guy, his lectures are so fun if you enjoy geeking out on history and the legal side of it. His workload can be pretty heavy, you'll have around 1 or 2 cards a week which are pretty much mini-essays where you summarize whatever he gives you while he sets a minimum word count of 400-800, it later on increases. fun class though:)
What a fantastic Professor! If you want to learn, take his class; he goes into detail. The lessons are never dull; an hour feels like 15 minutes because he is super funny. Participation will get you extra points! You won't regret it if you take his class. Karla
professor Vento is an amazing professor and I would def. take his class again. just be ready for a short 400-800 word note card each week. his final paper was tough with a requirement of 3000 words. he has a midterm paper too that is not that bad. overall nice prof but this class won't be an easy A. He is always willing to help too.
The lectures are very entertaining and funny. But, he is obnoxiously loud and had an expectation that every student instantly understands the topic and will berrate you if you don't. He also assigns several very expensive textbooks and useless online tools that students need to have before the second week of class. Entertaining but a bad professor.
Professor Vento is probably the best professor I have ever had. He's encouraging and makes sure to let you know if you're doing well, or if you're not. This class was also very interesting on it's own, it has actually made me reconsider my major. The class flew by and I hope to take his honors class next semester!
vento is a great teacher. he definitely knows what he is talking about. he loves to pick on people and joke around, all while making sure everybody understands the lecture. he loves us baseball guys. hardest part of this class was his grading scale (everything 0s), as well as the cards. everything was very interesting tho so they all flew by.
super chaotic, obnoxiosly loud, gives toooo much work, and i STRONGLY DISLIKED him AT FIRST ..BUT i ended up LOVING his class. it was interesting, funny and i got sad it ended. DO THE WORK ON TIME and you'll be fine. time passed too fast so enjoy his class. forgiving and helpful, gives lots of extra credit too . "Does everybody understand this" lol
High word counts on cards, sometimes assigns two per week; a set of quizzes that require a virtually useless and expensive textbook. He is quite erratic but can be funny. Doesn't grade that well but as long as you turn in assignments on time, you're okay. He is knowledgeable on the subject if you're genuinely interested, but just be ready to work.
He is such a great professor. This class definitely gave me a roller coaster of emotions but it was still pretty amazing. He is a tough grader but all I can tell you is do your work. He requires weekly research cards that can get pretty lengthy. But it really helps towards your final. He checks up on students. Very entertaining class too.
Definitely would recommend, very interactive and informative. Participation matters and extra credit is also given. He is really funny and a great teacher, just make sure to be on time and turn in assignments on. Assignments are a bit lengthy but worth it, most information is covered in the lecture.
Such an amazing teacher !! Definitely would recommend, just be sure to attend in person, attendance matters. Most material is covered in the lecture and they're very informative, also interactive. Also assignments are bit lengthy but worth it.
Amazing professor. If you want to learn about Polsci this is your guy. Does assign a heavy workload and grades hard. To get an A, you have to apply yourself and genuinely try your best and every assignment and go above and beyond with them. He does give out multiple extra credit opportunities.
Professor Vento is very passionate about what he talks about you can tell he enjoys what he does. Research cards and most assignments are self explanatory, don't be afraid of them. I enjoyed sitting in his class because he is so funny. The way he teaches keeps you entertained so you def learn. Lastly, Vento if you see this...HENCE! ty
I believe everyone should have the chance to experience his class. You will learn so much about our political system and will come out well rounded and knowledgeable on the science of politics. This is a challenging class but with that, you can really see your potential if you really push yourself. Do yourself a favor and take his class!
MY absolute favorite professor. if I could take a John Vento class every semester I WOULD. he was so much fun and loud and reallyyy knows his stuff, you will learn a lot.class did not feel like a class... until you get to the card assignments... the work was definitely work. 10000/10 recommend taking a Vento class, even if it isn't for your major.
He is very funny and makes sarcastic jokes a lot, his homework is relatively easy and consistent, participation is a key part of your grade, he offers many EC opportunities, and attendance is mandatory but he is very understanding when you cannot come. Overall an amazing professor, he has gained my respect over my semester with him.
Take Vento's class if you want an engaging political science experience! His lectures are lively and informative. Sure, the assignments are a lot of work, but unstuckstudy ai makes study prep a breeze. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
I took Professor Vento for my summer honors class, and absolutely loved it! He's straightforward in his expectations and keeps the class engaged throughout the lectures with jokes and stories. The assignments can be long but they were relatively easy overall. Participation matters, but it's easy to get, and there are many chances for extra credit.
Liked him a lot for 101 and took him for 201 DO NOT. If you took his 101 and thought his grading was hard don't take this class because its awful. made me want to die
Required expensive textbook, doesn't use it. Entertaining lectures, picks individual students to make fun of for no reason. You can't view your class grade. Assigns 2 "cards" (essays) per week. At least 4x the mentioned work required for full credit. Don't take if you have any other responsibilities. All this for a 101 class!
Love him sm, his class is so fun and he forces people to talk to each other by screaming at you asking what you did over the weekend. So funny and enjoys feedback, a lot of homework sometimes two assignments a week but they can be time heavy. Sooo much extra credit and overall so fun he's a qt. TAKE HIM!
Honestly he is a good teacher did teach me a lot but overall to much work honestly felt like it took up half my time of college. THE FINALS BUNS. But homework is easy and he does call out people if you come late or don't show up and if your sensitive don't take his class makes uncalled for jokes about students.
Don't take if your not interested in politics. Final is extremely over complicated, assignments are easy but are extremely time consuming. Will make fun of you if you cannot take what he says do not take this class. Gives a lot of extra credit some of it involves you staying late for an event. Overall good teacher class wasn't for me.
Acts as if every student is a polysci major. Every assignment eats up time and he will NEVER give you a full grade unless you do 200% of the required work and even then refuses to leave notes after giving a poor grade. I wish he would change his teaching style but unfortunately he takes it way too seriously.
Vento is THE PoliSci guy on campus. He has so much enthusiasm for teaching, his lectures are the best and he picks interesting readings. He has a big personality but he's really kind and encourages class participation. The research cards can seem like a lot but my writing has improved so much! Try to do all of his EC because he is a tough grader.
Professor Vento is one of the best teachers I've had. He's very funny, which makes class enjoyable, and he explains things in a way that's easy to understand, even if the topic is hard. He gives a lot of extra credit, showing he cares about his students. I would love to take his class again because it has been one of my favorites!
His class wasn't really all that difficult but it is a lot of work. I think if your major is in communication or anything to do with law absolutely take him, he will teach you everything you need to be successful. If you don't want to learn and just want to pass, then yeah don't. Can't wait to take him again for 103.
If you want an easy class with hardly any work, don't take him. If you want to have a fun time and actually learn a lot about the government? Absolutely take him. He's an extremely fun and kind professor and is, without a doubt, my favorite teacher in my entire academic history. Also he gave us free coffee once.
Vento is really passionate about political science and clearly enjoys teaching. With the way his classes are run you're guaranteed to learn something even if you don't participate (but you should). Very writing heavy but its about 1 per week. I would complete them 1-2 hours before the class every single time without fail and consistently get an A.
His work is fairly straightforward and he explains the topics very thoroughly if you ask him to.
Professor Vento is a teacher who really cares about what he teaches. He makes the class entertaining so you are not bored learning about politics. If you have social anxiety this class is not for you because he will call on you and the class is discussion based. He gives a lot of work but all assignments are useful, you just need to make the time.
Veto is a UCLA Grade Professor. If you take this class, you will learn skills that will help you for the rest of your life. But he expects you to go above and beyond when doing assignments. So always do them as fast as they pop up. If you are just trying to score an easy A, don't take him. Even if I hated doing the work, I am grateful for his class
Professor Vento brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to class, always animated and engaging. While the workload was heavy, it was clear that he was passionate about the subject and pushed us to challenge ourselves and grow. Stay on top of your assignments. He's a UCLA alum so take the class in Spring for major extra credit opportunities.
Lectures are so fun and engaging. I feel like I have learned so much. BUT the workload is insane. I have never cried and pulled an all-nighter for class before until this class. If you get through Vento's polsci, you can get through anything. Overall, this class was an experience and I'm glad I took it.
Vento is a GREAT professor!! He cares about his students and about the subject, and he's always open to questions and will answer any concerns with no hesitation. The ONLY downside is the work. The work is easy, but definitely time consuming and is given VERY frequently. Overall, if you don't mind a bit of a work load, he's the professor you want!!
I had the privilege of having Professor Vento as a sub a couple of times. He makes quite an impression, which is why I am writing a review. He is knowledgeable and explains the facts in an easy but memorable way. He is not soft-spoken, but kind and funny. I would recommend taking one of his classes.
I took Mr. Vento for summer 2025 and it was the best class ever! He makes funny jokes and I felt my classmates and I getting more comfortable to speak up. He likes everyone to participate so be prepared. The homework is really easy and requires a lot of typing. So if you're willing to type, write, and to be called on, I'd recommend this class!
Professor John Vento is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is not only passionate about what he teaches, but also knows how to interact with his students. He has a great teaching style. I really loved taking his class. However, you have to be willing to put in the work; he gives way too much homework!(this was the only downside)
John Vento is a GREAT professor he's amazing at teaching and definitely loves it, get ready to be engaged no matter who u are he will call on you. only downside is the work so if you have time take him!!
Professor John Vento is one of a kind. If we had more professors like JV back when I was 18, 19 with the enthusiasm & passion he radiates for the subject and the students, we would have a sucess rate off the charts. HIs energy to keep everyone engaged, interested, & present is phenomenal! The work is well work the reward! He cares, he listens! CJ.
Enjoyed his class but not how vague he was with his grading. Would only put “See me.” after grading an assignment poorly & when I would go to his office hours he would tell me everything I was doing was fine & I had nothing to worry about. Then out of the blue told me to drop the class & “man up”.
Don't take this class if you have a packed
vento is a super outgoing & funny professor, even if you don't like politics, he makes the class very entertaining ! the only negative thing i have to say about his class is the big amount of homework that was given every week😢 the final exam was also very difficult but i recommend his class if you like political science !!
I wouldn't recommend, I passed but he's very intense. He calls you out and even when he makes you think your doing well you really aren't. So don't be surpised if you go from an A to a C. Also he forces you to do extra credit or he makes fun of you.
John Vento is one of my favorite professors I've taken his lectures are always intriguing and they get you engaged. He does assign a lot of assignments, they are time consuming but very easy if you manage your time you should have no problem passing this class. His class definitely expanded my views on political science.
