He's unhelpful and his tests are based on his lecture notes, not on theory
No Comments
He's one of the most fun teachers Ive ever had. Just make sure you go to class.
I HATED THIS CLASS. He tought nothing important, and was very rude in OH
This man should be fired.
Class is way overrated
I was an econ major up until Buckles and his 101 class. If I thought that class was hard, that must mean I've very bad at econ. Bearing that in mind, I thought Vrooman was extremely easy. The guy gives some of the best lectures I've had here at Vandy.

There are many things that could have taught this class better than Vroomin. A retarded, ****en, cracked-out monkey comes to mind. Vroomin thinks that by coming to class in sandals and relating economic concepts to beer makes him a good teacher. HE BLOWS
Judging by the previous responses, either you like or you dislike Vrooman (spelled correctly with an A, not an I). I hated economics until I had Vrooman. He relates the subject to matters I understand -- sports and beer.
No homework, just show up for lectures. Tests can be tricky though. People who get As on them usually overstudy big time.

Vrooman spends too much time joking, and too little time showering and teaching. Take Buckles instead if at all possible. The cost/benefit of studying for Vrooman's absurd-no study's a B-, 14 or 15 hours for an A-.
Awesome teacher, he knows his ****, you have to goto class, but he teaches in a way guys can totally understand
Vrooman is one of the best profs at Vandy...he knows how to teach, unlike some boring rich guys who fly in every day just to teach one class (ie Buckles)...if you're a Peabody person who likes Coloring 101, then don't take Vrooman...otherwise, he rules
No homework, just make sure you go to class. Tests can be a little tricky, but he always gives you an old one so you can practice.
Great class, esp. if you like sports and beer
Great prof. Knows material and challenges the student. Very fair.
You gotta study, and sometimes he can throw you a curve ball, but why **** about studying when you don't have any regular homework? One of the more memorable classes I've taken here.

Great lecturer - tests are hard but fair and intelligent for multiple choice tests.
Some knowledge of sports required.* Vrooman is fun and there's no HW, but the tests are tricky. You can memorize your notes and get a C. If you have trouble with multiplechoice tests, don't take this class. Vrooman's one of the best profs I've had @vandy.
Great lecturer...makes the material really interesting but makes the tests hard. Make sure you really know all of the material before going into the test. But definately one of the bests teachers I have had at Vandy!
his class is interesting, just be sure to prepare for tests by looking over the old ones.
He's hilarious and puts things in a simple way that makes learning them a lot easier.
Takes getting used to his sports analogies. Grades on curve...20% A's, 20% B's, 20% C's, etc..
Vrooman is TOUGH and won't help outside of class. Refused to answer question about previous tests that he had given us. Tests are hard unless you get it completely.
Prof. Vrooman is a great teacher, but he needs to get a book. Also, he needs to get rid of his grading curve.
I don't know why anyone would still take this class from this professor, he doesn't prepare you at all for any econ classes following it.
Vroom is da BOMBASTIC. How can you NOT like the man who has lab at Sam's?
Thinks he is a football player...still. Won't prepare you for anything. Doesn't actually teach econmics.
hard but interesting in class. curve is tough but he's still worth taking. very helpful outside of class.
He makes economics far more interesting than it was in most of my econ classes...
Okay, so the guy was hilarious and everything, but I didn't learn a darn thing in that class. Not having a book really sucked.
i love vrooman! the tests are hard, but he makes econ entertaining (i actually considered an econ minor until i took another econ course and realized i hated it) little known fact: he's one of the top 5 sports economists in the nation!
Vrooman's a great guy but the class really blows. Didn't learn anything and the tests are ridiculously abstract.
hysterical but a really hard class! no book and few grades.
Vrooman gives funny and relatively interesting lectures, and he keeps macroecon pretty simple, though the tests are kind of scary at first, you learn how to take a vrooman test and the course turns out OK. His lectures include profanity, which I see as a bonus.
Great teacher, especially if you like sports, if you go to class, easy A or B. No homework or textbooks, or papers.
Tests are unreasonably hard. Vrooman is a smart guy; you feel as though you're learning a lot in class until the test comes along and you make C's. Also, picks favorites and rarely receptive to students during office hours.
this man is the wort teacher i have ever had. he is gross, sleazy and ****. do not take his class.
Fun/interesting lectures. Tests can be hard and multiple choice can be tricky. I got all A's and A-'s for all the exams. But I ended up with a B+ for the semester because of some weird curve. So you never know what your grade in that class will be until the very end. I didn't like his curve system.
getting to the point isn't a strength of his
He has favorites with students and if you are not his favorite, don't bother going to office hours. He won't help you at all! To be his favorite, you have to be a hot chick! Also, tests are hard and graded on some weird curve that nobody understands.
This class is really hard. No book, no powerpoint, only notes that you can get down from his lectures. Must attend class regularly to pass. Lectures are really interesting, but I question the application of some material beyond this class. Doesn't build good foundation in econ-take Buckles for that.
If you are already familiar with Macro, his class is not that bad and he has a unique a fun way of dealing with Macro topics. Can be intimidating and an ass, but if you can get over that, his class is a good experience.
Great class and teacher. Can't beat 2 for 1 beers at lab.
No book...not helpful in office hours....tests are way too hard...curve will screw you over....avoid, avoid, avoid
Vrooman is the kind of professor you would want to hang out with. He is such a cool guy and gives great, funny lectures. His tests are challenging but you will do fine if you prepared by actually thinking and not by memorizing the old notes and tests.
Don't listen to all of the bashing from the Econ 100 people- they're just upset that the old tests they had didn't match up to the tests he gave. Sports Econ is a great class that any Econ major should take and he is actually very helpful in office hours- if you can actually get in (long lines).
No Hmwk in this class. You just have to study for three tests and go to class, which isnt bad b/c his lectures are entertaining. IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT STUDIES BY MEMORIZING YOUR NOTES THEN TAKE BUCKELS because Vrooman doesn't use a textbook - he tests you on what he says in class.
For me Vrooman's class went by really quickly each day. I took AP Econ. in high school and his class is ten times more interesting. He's funny, laid back, and there's no homework. Tests are hard but there is only four tests and most of the questions are taken straight from old tests.
Do yourself a huge favor and take very good notes. If you do this without missing more than two or three classes you've got an A.
if you don't miss too many classes, and study your notes, this is a pretty easy class. He's pretty entertaining.
Hard teacher but a good class. No homework, No text.
Great class
Vrooman's the reason I never got an econ major. Unclear, never helpful, goofy in manner. Very nice guy - curves his classes too much. Take someone else.
Vrooman is the reason I am now an Econ major. He uses no text so if you go to class and review sessions you have to be a retard not to earn an A. He is extremely clear if you pay attention and go to class. His class is logical and he doesn't require you to think like he does to get an A.
Vrooman uses tons of sports analogies for his entry level econ classes, so if you're not up on sports, don't take it -- wait for buckles or someone else.
awesome class, awesome guy "rodger, are you stoned again?"
If you have a limited econ background..take Buckles.
vrooman rocks. If you can take 280 - take it. It was the best class ive had at vanderbilt by far. Its challenging but vrooman explains things very clearly. Gotta make it to class though, however i found myself never ever wanting to miss it. Take 280 and go to the friday "lab" at Sam's and get to know the guy -hes awesome
GREAT
An Angry and soft southerner
Awesome professor. Fun class. GO TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL.
do. not. take. this. class. seriously... buckles is the better option for those without econ experience. the little extra work is soooo worth it
Go to class or you will fail, guaranteed. There is no book, only class notes. He will give you some old tests to review and they help, study them. He grades compared to everyone else so A's change depending how dumb the rest of the class is. He's funny as hell so listen.
There is no textbook, no powerpoints or lecture notes aside from confusing graphs. You're supposed to write down whatever bull comes out of his mouth and be tested on it later. There was no homework, but I didn't learn anything except that all college students are supposed to care about is beer and football. Worst class I've ever taken at Vanderbil
very arrogant and unhelpful...if you are a girl (or guy) who isnt very much into sports DO NOT take this class, i attended every single class and studied my non-existent textbook FOREVER and felt like I knew the stuff but then would get Cs on all the tests....take buckles
Vrooman is, hands down, the best econ professor at Vandy. Sports Econ is a great class and the amount you learn is unreal.
There's no book for this class so although attendance isnt mandatory, to study you have to be there. And interpret confusing graphs that he throws in there. He favors the football players and the only real thing ilearned is that beer and football are what college is about. Which is fun but a test rolls around and you have no clue what's on it.
absolutely terrible, if you go to class you might do well, and if you dont, then you will have problems... i love sports and beer and while i appreciate the analogies, they get old quick and make him sound like an idiot... his test questions arent very straightforward either
You must go to class!
The curve makes this class hard to fail but also hard to get an A- usually you can only miss 2 questions on the test out of 36. He will ask the questions he says he may ask on graphs. Old tests are key. Know why every right answer is right, and every wrong, wrong. If you don't understand, go to office hours. He will explain them all if you ask him.

This class is great. Go to class because you can't do well on the tests otherwise. It was harder than I thought it would be, but still one of my favorite classes. He is very willing to help if you have questions. Go to lab at Sam's...it's the best part of the class.
This class isn't easy by any means. However, the level of difficulty is tolerable because the subject matter is extremely interesting. Although there isn't attendance, you really have to go or you will struggle on the tests. He will also call you out if you skip
His lectures are really interesting. No textbook required, which means you need to actually show up. Taking good notes will help a lot, since every question is based on what he said in class. If you are good with graphs, his class will be super easy. He will relate everything to sports and politics. Analyze how he asks questions and you'll be fine
Take this course no matter what. You'll have to study to get an A (or A-) but Vrooman's the man and will explain everything well. You have to go to class, but that's not a big deal since Vrooman keeps the class interesting and fun.
Loved the class. Wasn't too hard - you're given a very good idea about what will be on the test, but you have to write a LOT on the exams in order to do well. I averaged 2 blue books full. Very reasonable for a Econ 250+ course.
AWESOME CLASS. VROOMAN ROCKS. He is so good at explaining the material, and his tests are pretty straightforward. Not difficult to do well if you go to class. ALL ECON MAJORS SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS.
The best!
This professor greatly disappointed me. His class is easy for those who normally average Cs and below, but it's quite hard for people who usually get As to get As in this class. Also, I learned basically nothing compared to AP Macroeconomics in high school
This class is great if you're happy with a B and have no desire to take any future economics classes. Vrooman mispeaks frequently in lectures, tries to use two entirely different examples at the same time, and only teaches new material in the last 10 minutes. The only way to do well is to get old tests and memorize Vrooman's cryptic answers.
Great class and made me look at sports in a whole new way. A bonus is that you don't have to buy a textbook. A drawback is that the tests take forever (I averaged 3-4 hrs./test) and there are three of them.
Professor Vrooman was a huge disappointment. He showed up to class late every day and was unavailable outside of class. The examples he used were often a force, and more confusing than helpful. He should spend less time trying to make his students think he's cool and more time actually teaching economic principles. I feel like I learned nothing.
If you go to every class and study the old tests, this class is very easy. That said, Vrooman isn't a very good professor at all. He's completely unavailable outside of class, and his lectures can be unclear and confusing. Don't expect to learn a lot. You learn way more in AP Econ than this class.
Great class, you'll learn a lot and I like his teaching style as he repeats the most important things several times and really emphasizes them so that I've left this class actually remembering the material. Don't skip class, although it's interesting enough that you should want to go. It'll help you better understand both sports and econ in general
Vrooman is a fun an entertaining teacher. He doesn't assign homework and the class has no textbook so the course is very easy as long as you attend class. The tests are simple multiple choice questions and you get to drop one of them. He's a nice guy, very smart, and loves sports. I'd absolutely recommend his class.
Only 3 exams. No readings or hw. You only have to know the material in the lectures. Only complaint is that his class is 50 minutes, but he expects you to take 2 hours on the exam. So, you will either miss your next class or go it it and come back after. Very nice guy and helpful
Nice guy, go to glass and a B is easily obtainable.
If you're taking 280, you should know what you're getting with Vrooman. He's all over the place during class, but the tests won't be that tough, and it'll be an easy A- or B+ with an A possible. 2 exams and 1 paper with pretty much no work throughout and you don't have to go. Downside is the exams take close to 4 hours.
At first, this class seemed really interesting and cool. Then the test rolls around. The test questions are arbitrary and the answers are difficult. I went to every class and still didn't do that well.
Really interesting class, even if you're not into sports! Vrooman is so funny and nice. No homework. Attendance is a must to get notes but be warned the tests are NOT easy. 3 tests x 36 multiple choice that are pretty tricky; it's easy to miss a few or a lot each time and tank your grade.
Let's dispel with this fiction that the tests are hard. Seriously, though, they aren't. At all. It's completely *multiple choice*, and easy multiple choice at that. There's no homework, lectures are hilarious, and Vrooman literally, specifically tells you what's going to be on the test. How is anyone going to complain about a multiple choice exam?
Attendance and good note-taking are essential. Vrooman's lectures are great, and he's an authority in sports econ - he can also be kind of headstrong and intimidating, and I'm not sure he's a nice guy at all. Still, fascinating subject matter if you like sports. A caveat: tests are somewhat ambiguous and super-valuable to your grade.
No homework, just studying and reviewing. The class is solely multiple choice tests. Approx. 1/3 of the questions are ambiguous so there is a luck factor, but if you take notes and study, you'll likely land in the A range. If you are a sports fan, this is a must! It'll change the way you view pro sports, and class will be the highlight of your day.
Vrooman is the man. Cares a lot about the material and if you are a sports fan, you should 100% take this class. By far the most interesting class I've taken at Vanderiblt. 3 tests that are all multiple choice and he tells you nearly every question.
The upper-level sports econ seminar with Prof. Vrooman is a good option for the upper-level econ major elective. He goes into greater depth on some of the sports econ theory, which is fascinating, yet the class is not, by any means, difficult. A good class to take senior year. Three reasonable exams + semester paper. Fun professor, solid choice.
Vrooman does a much better job teaching the upper level Sports Econ than the intro. The smaller class size allows him to make the class way more interactive and his casual approach to teaching makes for a fun environment. Tests are not hard; essentially just regurgitating the graphs and stories he goes over in class.
No homework and one fun term paper at the end of class. The class is also interesting. Tests are straightforward and not hard. He literally tells you the questions beforehand. Vrooman is a little weird, but this is 100% the move for an upper level econ elective.
