He was the best english teacher i've ever had. He lets you get the best grade possible on your papers and he's really helpful. NICE GUY!
very easy teacher!! really nice guy. he wants his students to do well. all you have to do is put a little effort into your writing and you'll get an A. gives a lot of reading...but he doesn't really seem to care if you read it or not.
gives lots of essays/papers. class is 2 early in the morning. half the kids dont show up or sleep in the class. only couple of kids pay attention in class one goes off in tangents about the vietnam war and others listen. frankly students war stories more interesting than teachers from the book
very down to earth teacher. gives a lot of stories to read but doesnt check/mind if you didnt do it. no tests only 4-5 papers. teaches about life and current events as well as stories. went to graduate school in QC so knows his stuff about what the teaches want in a good paper and will teach you it
A very enthusiastic two thumbs up
A great teacher. Most of your grade is based on papers and class participation. The stories you have to read aren't really that interesting, but you just have to deal with it. He's a good grader and he's willing to help you out any way he can and a really nice guy too. I'd take his class anytime.
NICE PROF. JUST TAKE HIS CLASS TO GET A GOOD GRADE
Very easy, but class is just a big waste of time. He talks more about current events that interest him (VERY liberal), rather than things relevant to the course... and then you get penalized for missing class three weeks in row!
hes kind of boring but pretty easy class teaches about current events more
this guy is agreat prof. he's really smart. i think the english 110 class is boring but his poetry class is incredible. just get to know him. he expcts good work though but is a good grader at the end when it counts
He's a nice professor. His classes can get sort of boring, but most of the time its interesting. He doesn't force you to participate but he's kind of tuff on papers so don't expect A's a lot. Overall put effort into the papers and participate, you'll be fine.
Easy class, just write the way he wants you to. He tells you to put "I" in essays, which is one of the worst things to do. He has no idea what good writing is. Only take him if you already know how to write an essay, or he will teach you the wrong thing. Still, an easy class though, somewhat boring but an easy A.
He is all right, not bad at all. Do your homework and come to class prepared then you will be fine. He wants you to participate to the class but he doesn’t push you. There are quizzes but they not hard. He is hyperactive, not bad looking at all, he has interesting ideas. And he has sense of humor. Take the class, for an English teacher he is not ba
John Wang is very good at teaching literature. He is interesting and makes very interesting points when he compares our society today to works of literature done in the past. I really enjoyed this class eventhough English is not my major. He is the best at what he does. Please take him if you need an English literature class.
First of all putting "I" in papers is a contemporary way to write, but it's true that he's weird about doing things his way. Listen, don't think. He is liberal, but what intelligent person is not? Cliff notes to pass the quizzes and count on the surprises if he's perturbed. He doesn't facilitate participation well, but this is an "A."
1. Class is boring. 2. But, Wang is actually nice and VERY easy going with grades. 4. Do well on short essays, and final. And he likes if you participate. But he won't force you to.
Yes his class is boring and not very open to other ppl's opinions. Attendance and participation is very important and he requires you to bring you're books in and all that. On essays he is fair.
very easy teacher and very laid back. if you like creative writing this is the best class for you.
Boring class lectures, shows no emotion, completely monotone. Isn't a very fair grader, doesn't like anyone to disagree with his opinions or ways of doing things. Not recommended.
Boring classes but we hardly did anything. very fair grader! recommend his class for an easy A
Very nice and relaxed, knows what he's talking about. A generous grader!
He is a great teachers, losses his focus at times and goes on tangents but only because he gets very excited and involved. He is a easu grader is you show up, READ!! and give imput, do all that and youll get an A. If the class is all involved some really good debates/ converstaions etc can take place.
Very fair grader if papers are clear & grammatically correct he will give you an A I personally found class interesting Very open-minded It's not a lecture it's a discussion He encourages participation & attendance If you hand in a paper late occasionally he will not take off points Easy-going & Good-looking HIGHLY recommended
You can tell he is really smart and knows his stuff. Participation is key in his class. He really goes over the material so that you have a good understanding.
He is a nice and fair grader. If you do your readings and essays you will be fine but responding is necessary to get an easy A. He is very easy going. I love his teaching.
Wang is the man! He excercies his freedom of speech. If you participate you're good!!
I took him in Eng 110 in Fall 'o7. I liked his class and the way he is teaching. He goes over the text which is very helpful. Class participation is mandatory to get an A. I got A+ just participating in each class and did the writing timely. He is a very nice and easy going guy. I loved his teaching. Expecting to take another class with him in fut
Best Professor ever. I am not so good in Writing still got A+. Lot of writing but easiest grader ever. I used to do my paper 2 hour b4 class.I also skipped lot of class and used to sleep in d class. Still i go tA. Easest professor ever. Take him to get an easy A+. Highly Recommended.
he is such a nice guy! hes so smart and is passionate bout literature. we actually had 2 papers instead of the open notebook tests ... but he is an extremely fair grader. try to attend most of the time and u should do fine. would deff take again.
I love him.He is so handsome and nice.He isn't a jerk with workload and he understands the meaning of a summer class. He says that he gives more work during the regular semesters. He will smile if the class is quiet and call on someone from the attendance sheet. But he is a good man and I will take this easy going Professor again. He is understanding.
I took him in summer semester. He is really smart and passionate about poetries...I couldnt think that poems are interesting before, but I enjoyed reading those tough poems...He is very good and helpful, understanding....But be prapared to participate otherwise you will not get a good grade.
Easy A!
Terrible, avoid this teacher! Hed rather talk about the political situation than about english. It is a total waste of time, and although he might be a good grader, u will learn absolutely nothing. If u write in your essays about american idol, u will probably get an A. If u enjoy talking about beer and the president, then take this class.
awesome proffesor, really easy grader, and interesting class...probably doesnt teach all that much about actually writing but the class is fun
participation is mandatory for each classes, especially he wants it. Essays topics are all from text book!I think he is a easy grader. Im taking him this semester & i got A/A- for all my essays. He explain all chapters but sometimes he seems confused! he cancel classes often, however he is a good looking guy!!if you want a good grade just take HIM
He seems pretty intimidating with his ridiculous attendance policy (if you're not there when he takes attendance then you are absent). He is a stickler for participation but he was a very easy A. Just pay attention and take good notes and this class should be a breeze. The final was open book and one page of notes were allowed.
He scared me so much the 1st weeks that I thought I should just rate him a freak right then but he's an ENGL teacher- which one isn't a little crazy? Don't contradict him in your papers and you're good. I didn't do any of the readings and I was fine. And scarily enough, I'm used to him now and I don't mind as much when he insults the janitors...
He scared me in the beginning but now I know- show up on time in the beginning, raise your hand a few times and make something up to say so that he'll know your name. Then you don't have to be on time after he knows your name. And he grades pretty fairly. And he likes to talk about everything but English- but who cares? I'd take an easy A any day!!
he is terrible.learn nothing!his class is just good for native speaker. No encouraging!
On a scale of 1-10 i'll rate this professor 7.5. He's a great professor and he can be a little critical but it makes you realize your mistakes. I've had fun in his class, and honestly his essay's maybe a little pain but they're nothing to dread. Oh yea and make sure you participate a lot because it's 25% of your grade.
By far the best teacher I've everhad! A very kind teacher! He goes over all of the short reading pieces we have for homework, and engages all in a very well rounded class discussion. Never a bore! Great, enthusiastic teacher! Just come to class, participate, and write short opinionated essays (simple, proper English), and you've got yourself an A!
ok, i took this prof. for a 151 W summer course. I read the reviews and they were good. I was suprised.During the course this guy showed no remorse on his students. He was a total psycho ( no kidding). I Don't know if he changed lately or what. All he cared about was pledgarism and all he did was critisize the world and pessimisem. WOW
It was either his way or the highway...always came mad in class, treated the students like it was our foult that his life or career sucked.
I got an A, did 60% of the reading, just listened in class. He's passionate and explains well. Make sure he knows your name, don't plagarise. Took him for the summer, one final, two 3-4 page papers and participation. Easy A if you're not a lazy ****. I highly recommend him, he is very intelligent and cares about what he teaches.
not worth to take.
Wang is awesome. He makes the difficult reading understandable, he explains things so that they are crystal clear. Easy grader. He makes the class enjoyable with his many opinions. If you participate he will love you. Take his class Easy A!
He is a really good teacher and is really helpful. You'll most likely get an A but he is a little harsh in his criticism. He'll give you a good grade but he'll never tell you your work is good enough. Over all though, I'm happy i took him for English 110, he really helped me learn how to write.
Great class-easy A!
he is an easy grader but likes to criticize but it is because he is very passionate about writing and english. dont be late and dont be absent-it will help ur grade and participate once in awhile. over all easy A and not that much work.
Very Passionate about his subject, but useless. When I asked for help for his paper I could've did without his rudeness, its not that serious, don't take him if you are not as passionate about the subject as he is..
Interesting class, interesting reading material. I meas't up bad this semester, so I didn't get my A. However, he did open my mind to the world, and changed my life. He helped me understand college. Talk to him after class, and you'll see there is more to the pessimism everyone speaks about.
People keep saying he's easy... technically true. But participation is 20% of the grade so if you ace all your papers you will only get a B. There's a caveat to this - he is EXTREMELY condescending. He oftentimes shoots people down and is rude to no extent. It's hard to participate when he is so discouraging. He also criticizes harshly and is mean.
I liked his class a lot, and found him very clear and helpful. It's a Writing Intensive class, so be prepared to write. No, he is not critical like everyone says - he just can't stand sh-tty writing, and will let you know if it is. He wants you to learn to write, so be prepared. The actual poetry is really easy. Class participation is VITAL!
As chill as it gets. Very laid back and down to earth. always willing to help you out if you ever need him. Make sure he does not read anything of yours in class though. He will figuratively tear it apart, but dont worry, hes an awesome grader.
Cool guy. Got pissed off after grading each essay that noone knows how to write a proper essay. Overall pretty easy. Need to participate a little in each class, but overall an easy class.
I took his class last spring and it was great. We did a lot of poetry and read 1 great novel. There is a midterm, final and final paper and you choose your topic. He's flexible, easy going, helpful, very clear, accessible, accommodating and he checks his emails multiple times a day so you get a reply minutes after you send one. Definitely take him.
Victorian Lit was great. We read lots of poetry and prose along with a really great novel. Just a midterm, final and final paper-the topic of your choice. He is clear, easy going, understanding, accommodating, and available always to help his students. If you can you should take him, he makes you read but it is an easy A aside from that.
I love him. Not to mention that he's good looking, I love how he jumps from a poetry to classical and mythical background to help me understand better. Hated to miss his class. Very knowledgeable, at least to my eyes
There is nothing bad that I could say about this professor. He is smart, funny and at the same time not afraid to crticize what I loved because his honesty was really helpful. There was a guy that dropped his class after he was told straight forward that his essay is horrible but really, he did everything that professor many times told not to do.
need to come to class often but not all the time; but this class is so worth it. I have never gotten an A in english until I took him. Easiest, nicest, fairest and nicest english teacher there is.
This class is fairly easy. Two 3-4 pg papers on a poem and One 5-6 pg paper comparing two poems. Final is easy just make sure you take notes on the poems when reviewed in class. Dont need to buy book, just print them out from online. You must participate to get an A!
Amazing!! You will have to write papers in his class, like 4 or 5 but he's an easy A if you work for it. He's passionate about what he teaches and he 's very honest about your essays. Helped me become a better writer tho and probably was my best english professor yet. Great class I loved going
Great professor. Great class
mr.wang is the best English professor that I ever had. I highly recommend people to take his class. You can get a good grade if you are a good writer. His class is very interesting and time flys! I am planning to take his other classes as we'll.
The class is easy if you come to every other class and take basic notes on the poems. He is not trying to trick you, but rather, trying to get you to know more about poetry at the end of the class. I would recommend that you participate in class and write down his interpretation word for word for each poem and you will get an easy A.
First of all he is extremely handsome. He does not like irresponsible student. Read the assignment, be on time and take participation and never use cell phone. You will be totally fine. his class is really interesting:)
He is so full of himself. Literally. He such a tough grader. What ever you do DONOT plagiarize. His final is okay.. he gives your 8 questions and you have to answer 4 of them. and tests he doesn't give any. He gave us one quiz in the whole semester. in the beginning go the semester he told us they will be pop quiz but it wasn't. ALOT of READING!!!
He's a smart guy, but he isn't one of the "great" professors. It's very discussion based "but" if you voice out an opinion that differed from his, he wouldn't pay much heed or wonder why. Very apparent, this deterred many students from participating later on. Vague in what he wants for essays, you're left confused with both assignment and comments
Don't take him! showed no respect for his students. Make sure you don't write "bad papers" because he would read it out in front of class and criticize you. He took attendance very seriously! Participation counts a lot!!! And be ready to read at least 5 novels and write 5 papers. Tough grader too. Not an easy A at all! Do urself a favor, AVOID
The worst professor at QC. Avoid at all cost. talks way too much about how much he hates plagiarism doesn't have any respect for students.
He's very clear on what he wants in papers. This is not high school anymore, you need to reflect on the text and ANALYZE not SUMMARIZE it. Participation is very important, raise your hand in class and be active, this gets you more lenient grading. Share interesting ideas. Papers are easy, listen to his analysis, add your own, synthesize and get A's
Best professor at Queens College. Take his class.
Best professor take HIM. Easy A!!!!!
attendance is vital i think. professor is really anal about stuff but not intimidating since he is very lenient w/papers. as long as you show effort he'll be fair. he has very low expectations, he knows non-english majors don't want to be there. only dumb part of his class is the portfolio he makes u do..
Its not a hard class, if you read and know how to write you'll be fine.
Not a fun class. No discussion: only his opinion matters and he's quick to ignore students' ideas. Every class, he assigned a hefty amount of reading and then stood at the podium and read it verbatim to us. If you're ready for a second crack at kindergarten, then take this professor. Easy A, but every class felt like a waste of time.
Took him for English 130, the dude was fine. Very boring class. Just know the basics to his book and you'll be fine. The whole journal thing is pointless since the whole class just writes it the day before its due.
The guy is a big fan of Wordsworth who was known to be a jackass. He is very intimidating, not approchable, hot tempered, and will drain your confidence on papers. If you are not good at analyzing literary works avoid him because he won't teach you. if you are not a native speaker avoid him at all costs. his way or the high way, a lot of reading
His lectures are pretty boring. He says class participation counts more than the essays do-he takes attendance every day. I only went to class to be marked there. Otherwise just have to read and write essays.
I like how professor explains everything thoroughly, and he is very sincere. I enjoyed this class very much.
He was a good professor. He truly enjoys his job. He takes attendance. There are 3 essays and a midterm and a final. The midterm and final are not that hard because you can use your books. Take notes during the lecture because they will be useful. Overall, I enjoyed the class!
Prof Wang wasn't as great as anticipated. This professor made me like English less. His lectures are mediocre at best. I am a decent writer and read all the material required for this course and he still managed to slight me on my grade.
He comes to class late usually and very flustered. He thinks he is the only professor we have and has a paper minimum 1 due a week if not more. Very boring lecture.
He's a good person and as a professor, he does care about his students somewhat, but you have to know what you are doing. He explains what he expects in the beginning so if you listen and show up to class you won't have a problem but if you are one of those students who just expect an easy A or doesn't like to read or do essays it's not for you.
Professor Wang is very passionate about English, but he came across as quite the snob and chuckled at the class when we didnt know what something meant. His lectures are more like rambles about nothing entire duration of the class with little to no sense of direction. He usually always kept talking even when class was over and didnt seem to care.
He gives a lot of papers but he always reviews the material in class so you will be fine as long as you show up and pay attention. I like the way he teaches, very engaging and easy to keep up. He's fair with his grading and he genuinely tries to help. He's a good guy, just show up pay attention and do the work and you will pass with an A.
He's great! He goes over every book with extreme detail. He sometimes gives you reading or a paper last minute, which is my only complaint really. It is easy to tell he is passionate about literature, he really loves it which is a plus. I wouldn't say the class is an easy A, but if you put in even a little effort you should do great!
Prof Wang is a great professor. If you need any help or have any questions you're always welcome at his office hours (just make sure to ask/email him first). He also has a detailed syllabus that you can always ask for him to clarify if you don't understand. He's also very good at knowing if you've done the reading so skim it at least before class.
He lacks that intellectual enthusiasm a professor is supposed to instill into students. We read a lot of poems as if none of them share a similar theme or concept . He doesnt even establish a context for reading , his pedagogy is kinda just like ok,next. There is 0 discourse , merely his opinion and anecdotes. Bad prof if you like English lit .
Not the best professor out there, but definitely not the worst. Can be unorganized in his thought process at times, can provide good input if you speak with him, goes on a lot of tangents when speaking, can be boring at times. Overall, mediocre teacher. Easy grader as long as you put in some effort.
Participate often and he will notice you which helps with grade. He is very nice. Very approachable. Gives 3 essays. Tells you EXACTLY what he wants you to write. So listen to his lectures and write exactly what he wants and you get a good grade easily. Very easy to reach by email.
Prof Wang is the MAN!!! Lectures are fun and he does a real good job of explaining. If you see his section open, just take it. You will thank me later. REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR!!! He's one of those profs that want you to pass.
I felt the class could have allowed for more creativity among the students and assignments. However, Professor Wang's insights were very clear when discussing the classwork and syllabus. He is really understanding if you speak to him about any concerns. Prof Wang also accommodated his class very adequately due to the COVID impact. Take his class!!!
I have taken two Engl classes with Professor Wang. He has a tendency to slight students' of their grade without realizing it. I got an A in Engl165W poetry class, but I believe I deserved an A+. I think he believes he doesn't have to give students' the grade they've earned due to his tenure. He's also arrogant and calls on students'-unfair.
Great class and great prof! I feel like I learned a lot from Professor Wangs lectures this semester and would definitely recommend.
definitely one of my favorite classes, he does try even though he has his off days you can see he wants you to learn. Sometimes he forgets to post assignments but we have to sympathize that these are hard times. he assigns 3 essays, and I think 2 annotated bibliographies
Professor Wang is one of the best professors I had at QC, not to mention that he is quite handsome. He is charismatic, funny, and opens my mind about literature.
Took him during the summer. 2 5-page essays, 6 short responses. Very clear on what he wants. Follow the guideline. Lectures are boring, but could be me not into poetry at all. Attendance is a must. Read the poems he asks and say something about it during the lecture you should be good. Overall, a good, caring professor to take.
Pretty chill. Very lenient grader and makes class interesting. Gives good feedback and cares about students and their opinions. Helps you with ideas when struggling for essay topics. Had 3 essays for this class along with a few other assignments which werent too bad. A lot of reading and discussing in the class but hes a good prof. Would recommend.
Attendance is mandatory and you don't HAVE to participate, however he does remember those that do. There are weekly responses, probably around 200 words, something easy (they're not graded, he'll give feedback if you request it). There was supposed to be three essays but he instead graded two or one (idr) responses and one final essay. Overall 8/10
He is a great professor who explains things well and is willing to help you too. Gives very helpful feedback to help you in your essays. Take him if you can.
Professor Wang is very nice and lenient professor take himm
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Gives good feedbacks, loved his course since he is very engaged with the materials and very well knowledges in poetry.
Worst professor. He is a tough grader and continuously insulted me for 30 mins when I asked for help on an essay. ALL BECAUSE I HAD A DIFFERENT OPINION ON A BOOK. Do not expect to get a good grade unless you share the same opinions with him. Your opinion is not valid in this class.
Professor Wang is a character. He occassionally goes off topic to talk about how he wishes he could "knife fight" with his kids. No one dares to intervene or he might go in a tantrum and scream and embarass you in front of the class I feel very bounded in this class shying away from what i think. He also cant look me in the eyes for some odd reason
Extremely harsh grader and gives no feedback regarding why you were given that grade. He can be very rude at times. He is very strict on attendance and you must come EXACTLY on time otherwise you are marked as absent. His lectures are very boring, he simply lectures the entire time.
Gives bad grades for no reason. Can make rude comments
Wang is alright, I guess; If you can find a better professor, take them. The entire period is spent with him just talking on and on and on and it is incredibly easy to pass out or get really bored, so I haven't paid attention in a single lecture. Sort of passive aggressive tone, sometimes. Tries a little too hard to be funny, sorta awkward LOL.
He does talk a lot in the class but the class itself is an easy credit. You can definitely fall alseep during his lectures but I would recommend him cause it's an easy pass. Attendance matters a lot and there are a couple discussion posts. 3 essays and 1 final essay; overall the course was easy and do able.
Wang's syllabus is very simple, a few discussion posts, 2 papers, and one final paper. There's a lot of reading, and participation matters since he dropped my A to a B bc of it. His class isn't hard but he doesn't give good feedback and makes you ask for it. His lectures are super boring and just him yapping. If there's someone better, take them.
I wouldn't recommend his class. He doesn't seem to guide students who are new to the subject, making it tough for beginners to follow. His teaching style lacks the support needed, so if you're considering this class, you might want to think twice.and never email to him it will cost your grade.
A good guy who can incorporate jokes throughout the lectures. Your essentially graded on three essays that are pretty enjoyable to write.
Overall he's a good professor. He's professional, respectful, and very helpful. He gives good feedback on essay drafts and allows students to meet with him at any time during his office hours if they have questions about an assignment. There are three essays which we have to write along with many ungraded exercises.
Professor Wang's lectures can be a bit dry, but engaging with the material is key to doing well. Attendance is mandatory, so be prepared to show up on time. Though grading can be harsh, using resources like Unstuck ai can help with study prep.
John Wang has a degree in poetry and wants everyone to know it. Poetry isn't left up to interpretation when John Wang is around because he's solved all of poetry. John Wang requested that our essays aren't boring and should engage but don't be wordy? If I had a nickel every time John Wang connected something to S/A unnecessarily I'd have a few.
if you show up to class and clearly pay attention, it's an easy pass. he's very passionate about the works he chose, so if you frequently participate it will give him a good impression (he's also prone to calling on quiet people when the class is dead so try to avoid that.) don't be afraid of submitting essay drafts for feedback, it really helps.
