If u can understand Bad Chinese accent, go for it. Lecture is so boring and useless. But easy test, and easy grader...Nothing to learn
He is a very good professor.Like the other student said if you understand his bad accent. Then you are good to go.One mid final and a group project. You should take him if all the good professor are already taken!!
a very bad professor. Has a horrible accent that is hard to understand, and does not explain things well enough. Jumps from one topic to the next, there is no connectedness or clarity in his speech. Someone who has no clue in info science will struggle.
I agree 100% with May 19 comments, he is horrible, tries to tell jokes but you can't understand him so no one laughs. Jumps from one topic to another, can't understand one word he says, he shouldn't be teaching.

The worst professor I have had yet at MSU! He is totally disorganized. He definitely knows what he is talking about, but does not have the skills to get his message across! His grading system on tests is completely arbitrary. Please avoid him!
Prof. Wang is not as bad as they say. Although he has a bad accent he makes a real effort to explain everything the best he can. He is very responsive to students' questions, very funny, and has the greatest grading curve. You should definitely take him!
Took off an entire week of a 4 week course, then only one test was your entire grade!! Offered to have students get an incomplete and re-take the course...so he could take off again, NO THANK YOU...avoid, avoid, avoid!
4wk summer course. Better have your Business Stats down pat. Otherwise, wait until regular term. Ours ended up being 3 wks instead of 4. Entire grade based on 1 final exam. Extremely strong accent. Willing to rpt and take time to xpln.
Dr. Wang is a horrible teacher. He has a very strong accent. He assigns projects and doesn't correct them and your grade is based on ridiculous quizzes. His grading systems is like picking grades out of a hat. If you care about your GPA AVOID HIM.
If he gives you the choice of writing a paper don't put all your eggs in one basket. Make sure you do well on the quizzes too. The paper is a joke and he doesn't even read it. Plus he's a harsh grader on the paper. Avoid him if you can.
Class is a joke...you just show up, take the open book test, and write a group paper...that's it...most people ended up getting B+ or A-...good luck staying awake

he s a very,very bad professor. He has a strong accent and speaks way too fast. Don't expect him to teach you... you have to teach yourself and memorize all formulas. If you like math then you will do ok, if not expect ur GPA to go down the hill. I highly do not recommend him if you are not good and like math.
Okay so even though you cannot understand a word this man is saying and I couldn't tell you what this class was about, I managed to get an A-. all you have to do is show up and take the open book/notes test. I took the 3 week post session. Very Easy Grader!!!
He has a strong accent. Once used to it is fine. He is funny, helpful, on campus in office often for extra help if needed. Reasonable. Took 3 week summer class. Intense. A lot of material. But he is reasonable. Course requires some study/homework, no matter what. One test-final - open book open notes. If you can get past accent, highly reccommend

Here are the facts about Wang: You can't understand him, the material is very dry and boring, his one test is open notebook/textbook (Only one person got below a C on it, 4-5 got A's, about 25 total in the class), he's always in his office for help and replies promptly to e-mails. If you can survive the shock of the first class, it's not bad at all
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! He has a serious language barrier. He covers too much information in each class and does not allow for questions. If you answer one of his questions wrong, he makes you feel stupid since he is a statistics guru! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

4-Week summer course went by fast. 3 quizes, open notes and book. must pass 1st two in order not to take 3rd which is HARD! So do well on the 1st two. 1 group project, I recommend you start it early. A little hard to understand, nice professor, sense of humor. Follows Syllabus till the end. May give second to last day off in order to work on Proj.
This class was an EASY A! He speeds through his slides and you will probably not learn a thing but he was EASY! He gave us three quizzes (40% ) which were open book/notes -of which he drops the lowest grade. We had a group project (research paper) which was worth 50% of our grade. The other 10% was attendance. Not so bad!
Dr. Wang is a good teacher who care about his students. He's pretty easy with class work, but take special interest in the class project. I truly recommend taking this class.
What a terrible professor...He barely spoke english and rushed everything because he was nervous. I tried hard to get my money back but lost 1500 on this course. I was so disappointed. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR.

He's close to impossible to understand goes way to fast plus he can be very rude if you have a question. I didn't learn anything in his class, but his grading is very lax. If you show up to class and do semi-well on the midterm and project you'll get a good grade, but you will most likely hate every minute of the class.
This professor is the best professor. Take this professor. He teaches things fast but at the end he will give u curve and will pass you with a good grade. This professor has an accent but overall you don't need to do that much. Just do your homework and you should go to go
He has a bad accent, cannot understand him at all, best bet is to take during summer and get it over with less stuff, otherwise during reg. semester you will suffer,you have to teach your self if you don't understand him,grades descent, overall ok teacher, only take him if you need too.
This prof is the man seriously...u wont' learn but if u want to take him over the summer. I had two quiz & ended up with with A-. The first quiz everybody bomb it but he curve it & ended up with a good grade doing nothing so take this guy

Pretty much an easy A for me..not to brag, but he did give out a lot of high grades. Difficult material, seems over-whelming in the beginning. However, one will soon realize that none of the material is really "tested." Just show up, study what he says to study, and do well on the longggg group paper. Boring, but school's just like that sometimes.
Great lecturer, the class is very boring and he is hard to understand but ensure you attend all classes. He will curve so everyone will get a great grade in the end.
He's impossible to understand. His lectures are long & boring. Tests are easy, he tells the exact prob that will be on test. Doesnt even want an answer sometimes just set up the problem. Give's credit for parts of problem. So you can even copy the example you have in your notes and you will get some credit. Open Book test. Long paper.
Repeated the same sentence 5 times in a row before getting on to the next thought that he would repeat 5 times. Didn't learn anything and it was a topic I had enjoyed until I took his class.
You almost feel cheated, having to pay tuition and sit through this class. You will learn more reading the text book. Take the online course if you can with the other teacher, you'll learn more.

Does not speak English well, his accent is so strong that you can't understand him at all. He does not answer any questions you ask him he just starts talking about something entirely different. Should really not be teaching. He also said the prerequisites for his course should have been taken at another school! TERRIBLE AVOID i got above a B.

Do you want to actually learn? If your answer is yes, then stay away from this professor. I have no doubt that he does know the material, but he can't speak English well enough to make it understandable for students. I don't know why someone would be allowed to teach if they can't speak English.

Professor Wang was such an outstanding professor and was always available to help me with any questions and I learned more than I thought. Great perspective on what student's really need to learn.My interest on the subject has grown after this class. Do your part in class, and you will get a good grade.

I'm sure this guy is intelligent but he does not know how to actually teach students. Just because he says the information in the slides doesn't mean it's going to be automatically absorbed by the students and I don't think he gets that. Speeds through every lecture without clarifying anything he says & doesn't understand students' questions often
A great professor, who is always there for students. He comes every single class prepared, and knows what he wants to do. He is one of those who will make sure his students knows their stuff. He curves the grade at a level no professor will do to make you pass the class with a good grade. No matter what other students say, I will recommed him.!!
An excellent professor, filled with tremendous knowledge. The homework questions assigned and poweroints are very helpful from exam point of view. The lectures are fun and has lot of practical examples. The exams are not as tough, but you need to pay attention in class. He is always willing to help students in every possible way.

This guy. No offense, but understanding his English is tough to say the least. I'm about to buy the book because he flies through his slides. Mathematical slides with great explanation, and he flies through them. I have a feeling I'll get a good grade, but bring a laptop to class. Maybe even something to record what the heck he's saying.
Do NOT take this professor. He barely speaks English and cannot teach. He's rude and cuts students off while they're talking. He flies through hundreds of slides and offers no in-class practice problems. Tests are only 3 questions long and are impossible to answer. Projects are much harder than in other INFO300 classes. Take a different professor..

I'm not one to complain about accents, but professor Wang is very difficult to understand. The tests are 3 questions only, they are extremely difficult, although they are open book. I would recommend finding a different professor, the material taught in the class is hard. He reads from the powerpoints and never gives any examples.

Two exams, 1 group project. I bombed the first exam, managed to get a B on the second because of the geniuses on CheggStudy and CourseHero. Open laptop exam has its perks I guess. You'll learn nothing in class, so bring a laptop. Accent is heavy, and won't ever answer your questions if you have any. Don't recommend--save yourselves the headache

Professor Wang has a very heavy accent and is difficult to understand. He moves at a very fast pace. All homework and 2 exams were on Pearson Lab. Hard to follow since you can't understand the lectures. There is also one group project at the end of the semester. I'm also pretty sure he wrote a lot of these reviews himself.
I'll have to admit one of the toughest Core 300 classes. I don't understand what he says in class but you can tell he's super smart about what he's teaching and he's super nice. He's constantly offering bonus points in class. HW is on MyLab, just use the Help Me Solve This option. I don't know what I'm doing, but I have a 99% in the class.
To be honest, the material isn't all that difficult once you understand it, and there lies the problem. He offers zero in-class practice problems, moves really quickly, and honestly, you're better served just reading the textbook and powerpoints yourself and learning that way. Out of the 4 Core classes, this is my least favorite by a wide margin.
As long as you pay attention and do all the homework, you will do well in this class! You don't need the textbook, everything is on Pearson. Make sure to pay attention to the lecture, it well help you do your homework and he gives BONUS points for participating. There are 2 exams, both on Pearson and taken in class OPEN NOTES! pretty amazing how because certain people didnt enjoy his classes, they say he "wrote his own reviews." Now, there is definitely an accent, but there is literally no way to do that bad in this course as long as you spend the time. Which I'm sure most of these negative reviewers did not.
I debated between a 4 and a 5, and ultimately chose 4. I can see how he does move quickly for some students, but overall he's so very knowledgeable on what he's teaching. Admittedly, it took me quite a bit of studying to barely get an A, but it was worth it! Also, he offers extra credit in class based on participation. Solid dude.
Chances are if you're taking INFO300 all the profs are going to be difficult because the content is challenging. Professor Wang is a really nice guy. He does go through the content quickly but the exams are pretty straight forward. He's passionate about teaching and even gives bonus points every class! You'll be able to get through this course.
He is knowledgable about the subject but is very bad at teaching and no one can understand his accent. Was unfair as a grader when I had him as a student and graded differently than anyone on Earth, and also is rude. Other than that, you certainly can get an A but you really have to work hard for it and understand statistics for INFO300.
Professor Wang is clearly passionate about teaching students to be comfortable with statistics and data. He often passed around interesting journal articles relating to data science, statistics, and computer science. I would recommend that future students keep up with the textbook reading and do a few extra practice problems for each chapter.
Has lectures available on canvas. Can be confusing at times but just go over the lectures and or ask questions. Extra credit available even for wrong answers during the class.

He does not inputs grades clearly and final grades would be completely different than shown on the canvas. Does these BONUS as extra credit. I can't understand him! Test pretty okay. He's one of the few professors that wants to help his students understand the material. If you need help for this class, he will help you pass his class in many ways. He knew everything regarding this class and will teach you everything you need to know and more. Take this class with this professor.

Online class, didnt have his camera on when we were taking the two exams, but had to have OUR camera on. Final group paper as the final exam. His homework consists of 1-2 questions but theyre very hard. Was an async class so lectures were pre-recorded. Have to watch his lectures if you wanna do the hw. In person, its very hard to understand him.
His accents are hard to understand but his not a tough grader. He cares about his students passing. If you do your work, then you'll get good grades on it. I think his the one of the good professor in montclair.
Professor Wang is great because he just wants us all to pass. His accent is super hard to understand, but he gives unlimited attempts on homework and gives a lot of extra credit.
He gives online hw weekly that can be found on quizlet or chegg. He also gives a midterm and final with the answers online. Had him on zoom, and he would go on in tangents that made me just lose focus of the subject. Somewhat simple but the concepts are nuts. Also hard to understand him at times because he does have a strong accent.
All the work is on mylab, including 2 exams that you take online while he monitors you on zoom. Homework can be figured out through the "help me solve this" feature. There is a final group paper. He is super nice, and the work is easy, but his lectures are brutal. Understanding anything he says is a task itself, he makes class feel like an eternity
Professor Wang is a good guy, however, his accent made it really hard for me to understand what he saying throughout the entire semester. Participation can lead you to extra points on your final grade. The Hw and exams were found online. But if you can't understand someone with an accent I wouldn't recommend taking him.
Pretty cool and funny guy. Has a heavy lecture so its really hard to understand the content. The exams are crazy hard but theres a curve. Theres two midterms and then a group project. Group project is super easy but midterms are hard. Theres hw which is eh and then attendance, just show up and you should be good.

I did not understand anything he would say in class because of his accent, but it doesn't matter because all the assignments are on My Lab and its on chegg. Hes so chill, uses an attendance sheet, I didnt go to half the classes and still got an A. Exams are online, and he curves them like 2-3 letter grades if you did bad.

He was the only prof for INFO 300. Heavy accent, hard to understand during lectures but HW is straight forward if you use Chegg. Tests are HARD & had 30 ish questions that have multiple sections within a question within 70 mins. Said only 2 students have ever finished them, ever. Gives big curve at the end. Group project on top of the core project
Honestly, i really don't know why he doesn't have better ratings. Hes one of the most easy going professors for this course. everything is very straight forward and even gives you extra credit. Take him, best decision I made. people are just so lazy and want to be picky about people who have accents. If you can, take him!

This man has THE THICKEST ACCENT. It is extremely hard to understand him which in turn makes it hard to learn. Look this guy is a smart professor although he has a very thick accent tbh. He cares and wants his students to pass, he gave my class extra credits points to some students, and even curved the 2 exams. I kinda had to teach myself operations management regarding the mathematical problems. In summary he's alright, just sad its hard to understand him.
John Wang is a very considerate professor who cares about his students; he cracks jokes and offers bonus points for participation. However, even having taken the statistics prerequisite, I struggled in this class; his accent seriously impeded my comprehension of even simple review questions. Don't be afraid to use reputable online calculators.

Honestly very surprised with the ratings! Prof. Wang and his help not only as a professor but as a person is not seen much anymore. He genuinely cares about his students, and gave me an unforgettable opportunity that not only helped in my Academic journey but also my future career.
I had a very hard time understanding the lectures; the professor's accent is a bit heavy, and it can be difficult to keep up. The class isn't engaging, and whenever you do participate, he makes snarky remarks or undermines his students. I wouldn't recommend taking this class. Very skilled & knowledgeable professor who makes a difficult subject clear and engaging. Reading before class and participating really matters, and he gives bonus points for participating. His accent isn't an issue if you pay attention and don't listen to music during class. If something isn't clear, he's approachable and willing to explain again.
At first you may seem to not like him but later on you find out he is actually very nice and always glad to help. Interesting lectures if you pay attention. Will guide you to the right direction and actually will be supportive if you do your work.
