He was a cool and nice teacher, but class was still very hard to understand and follow. He didnt follow the book at all which didnt help at all. Based on tests which are all pretty hard, he does give some extra credit but it doesnt really help out much
Hey has a great sense of humor and his class is fun because of it, but he goes so fast and you cannot keep up with his notes. His testsa are hard and it is a tough class to keep up with
I had weide for Lab and it was pretty easy. There are tons of lab reports but most times I would hand them in late and no points were deducted because he's a slacker about getting to it.
Dr. Weide is a VERY funny teacher. You WILL be laughing through all the clases. When it comes to tests and quizzes, however, he is fairly tricky. He is helpful to an extent and is pretty nice. He has extra credit opportunities and drops lowest test
I loved this class, and loved the prof! He loves chemistry, and loves teaching it, which is very evident! He also tells the most hilarious stories... :-p I was dreading chemistry, but Weide made it interesting!
He enjoys teaching but does not enjoy large crowds of students. You will have to search him out to receive help. He is hard to follow in class and his test are very difficult. It is hard to know what grade you will be given until you receive your report card. If you demonstrate that you are wiulling to put in the time you will get a good grade.
Besides that he uses uses units in norms his lab is very on your owm. His lecture part of the class was a bit hard to follow. The biggest problem is the chairs they have you sit in during lab. He will help you, but tries to make you feel helpless first. then he'll show you just how obvious it was.
He is very funny, but he doesn't follow the book and his lectures are very hard to follow. The tests and homework assignments are very difficult.

Weide is tricky. Chemistry is sooo hard and having a confusing teacher makes it harder. But he does hold study groups and they do really help. He is very funny and easy to talk to.
Weide is a cool guy and also willing to help you out if you go to his office. His lecture is very difficult, however, and if you are going for a professional degree, which almost everyone in this class is, you won't be as prepared for standardized tests because Weide focuses 95% on math while most tests (PCAT, DAT, MCAT) are more theory .
weide is a nice guy, but completely nuts. he goes off in tangents and spends half the class talking about something other than chem. he gave us 10 ques. and a month to do them. we had teachers running from our study group and arguing about the right answers for the problems. those questions were insanely difficult.
well its been two weeks..he wasnt helpful at all when it came to reviewing 151...extremely difficult to follow and not concerned at all wether you understand his lectures...quizes once a week very difficult and worth 20 points each...if you you are a good student and depend on good teachers then dont take him! I have never dropped a class until thi
WEIDE ROCKS!!!!! He is tough and makes you work, but truly cares!!!!!! I'm glad I had him for a class that I had to take, but dreaded.
He's kind of weird and you sit in lab forever.
Weide (Y-D) is one of the most laid back professors there are. His class was fun and towards the end of the semester there was just 12 of us left and he passed us all. He's funny and gives extra credit. And we never had test, just weekly quizes. Most the assignments were group assignments and he offers lots of help.
He was one of the strangest and coolest professors I have had. I loved that he held study group every week before class.
He's hard to follow. Everything is based on lecture which doesn't follow the textbook. You have to be a fast writer and have a great memory because he moves to new stuff fast without making sure you comprehend what he has taught you. He makes you feel stupid when you talk to him too.If you don't like studying hard don't take his class.
Weide is an awesome teacher. You have to stay on your toes and take good notes, but he posts all lecture material on his webpage and always provides a practice test, to which the tests are ALWAYS similar. I was able to get an A in his class even though i missed 3 class sessions. I will definitely look for him in the fall for 152
Who wouldn't love a lab Prof that thinks the only reason to go into chem is to blow stuff up? Dry sense of humor & kinda gruff, but gives u all u need to do well - worksheets, handouts, practice tests. A bit of a stickler on the lab assignments but lots of points available total. He wants students to do on their own which can be intimidating.
I had Weide's lab I like that I had to earn my A. Weide is different and I found him to be a fun professor. He is gruff at first meeting but a big teddy bear once you have a repore with him. I would take his class again.
Dr. Weide cracks me up. This guy is the grumpiest/funniest teacher I've ever had. Reminded me exactly of my Grandpa. Teaching-wise, he was a good teacher. Taught the essentials, available for help, and left me alone in the lab...just what I've always wanted in a teacher.
I;m in Organic Chem now, and so I've had 5 other Chem teachers.... he is BY FAR THE BEST teacher I've had thus far! Really really cool guy. Take good notes, cause you'll use them not only in that class, but I've used them in every Chem class I've taken thus far. Seriously funny guy. Warning: he doesn't take any bull.
All I can say is, hang in there. This class was very difficult and required a lot of time. Dr. YD allowed us to work in groups on every assignment. There were quizzes at least once a week that could really help your grade. All semester I thought I would end up having to retake the course, and I ended with a B, so don't give up.
Weide is a nice person to work with, but not much help with chemistry. He doesn't use the book, is difficult to follow & generally doesn't seem to care whether you understand the material. I dropped since I am completely lost. I am also told he gives grades based on effort, which is not what I paid for. I was hoping to learn something about chem.
HANG IN THERE!!! Material isn't hard there is just A LOT of it!! A LOT!! I struggled keeping up but stuck with it for summer session. Memorization is key!
Dr Weide is not a good teacher by any means. It is very hard to ask questions in class because he often makes you feel incompetent for asking. The average for the tests is close to a 45 everytime(should tell you something about his teaching). He doesnt explain when to really use anythin just how to do it.I would try to stay away from him at all costs!
He has a dry sense of humor. People are afraid of him for no reason. If he doesn't make sense during his lecture (LEC or LL) see him during office hours and study groups. If you aren't willing to put in extra time when you don't understand it or you like to be a victim, don't take his class. Also, read the book regardless, you paid for it.
He is a good teacher and has a sense of humor. He doesn't assign homework or use the book very much. Final grade is based on 3-4 100 pt exams and a couple 50 pt mini exams, but he does offer 20 pts of possible extra credit. He has a website with posted practice problems and answer keys that REALLY help prepare for exams. I'd def recommend him.
lectured entire class period, but explained material very well. grades are based only on test scores, with the opportunity for extra credit.
Although I have had trouble following him in lab, he's excellent at answering questions, providing help, and being an approachable professor.
He is hilarious. His lectures cover EVERYTHING you need to know. Just make sure you do all the studying and memorization of the basic stuff so you can get through the year. Study for the test, use his practice problems, he basically tells you what will be on the test.
I received A's in both 151 and 130. He made Chemistry as clear as mud. He doesn't understand much about chemistry apart from stoichiometry. Awful lecturer and a huge lack of teaching skills. The book saved me as far as my understanding the concepts. Avoid his lecture at all costs.
He is hilarious! He doesn't take attendance and his notes along with test reviews are on his website so if you miss a few classes you won't be in a hole. He explains things fairly thoroughly so if someone asks a question he doesn't sugar coat that he is slightly annoyed for having to review the concept again but he isn't mean.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had in all the years I've been in school (Univ and CColeges). The last test had a class average of 36%. He rambles on in class, does examples that don't help you do the assn'd probs or tests. I can do any problem in the book and understand how the book teaches, but this guy makes up his own way of doing things.
Seriously, good teacher. I had him for lab, the only reason I passed lecture (different teacher) is because of his lab. He knows his crap, explains it clearly, and he's pretty funny to boot. Doesn't put up with crap, but tells you up front what doesn't fly.
Ah, good ol Weide, what to say... grumpy, funny, knowledgeable, and doesn't hide it if you irritate him. Not awful by any means, but I wouldn't recommend him.
Funny, no nonsense professor
I wish he taught different courses as well. This guy makes class fun. You will read posts from people saying he's a bad teacher, but they are the people who don't show up to class, text in class, whine, and are disrespectful. He's a great teacher but certainly demands your attention and respect.
It's almost insulting the way he runs his class exactly like high school. We're all adults, we can be treated like it.
Yes, he can be grouchy and blunt, but he knows his stuff and is crystal clear of his expectations of you. Be respectful and work hard and he will notice it. Don't come into class with a bad attitude, and never let him see or hear your phone. I would definitely recommend him for CHM130, but not if you're looking for an easy A.
Funny, blunt, knows how to explain chemistry many way. Great class for those who have little or no chemistry in their past. He is certainly a no-nonsense guy; don't ask a question someone else just asked and don't have your cell phone on when in class. Overall I liked going to class and learned a lot from him.
LOVE Professor Weide. He has a fun way of explaining things, grades on a curve, and takes notice of effort. It's chemistry so it isn't super easy, but I left the class with a B after worrying I might leave with something lower. He's definitely a memorable character and enjoys what he does, which makes the class enjoyable too.
Great teacher. He makes time for his students. Willing to help at all times. This class is not easy, but if you stick with it you will pass.!
Dr Weide is a great teacher. Very helpful and dedicated!Forgot to thank him for being so helpful wish I had.
Amazing teacher with good teaching techniques. I would defiantly recommend him
Prof Weide made the material easy to understand with ways to remember and willingness to review if someone didn't understand the material. Highly recommend this instructor. Take him for the lab section too!
Mr. Weide is such an awesome teacher. He makes the difficult concepts of chemistry super easy to understand. He is very easy going and approachable. I recommend him especially if you struggle!
I felt that Dr Weide was a HORRIBLE teacher. He had a hard time answering our questions and he usually moved the test dates up. That was really annoying. I would not take another class from him. Worst teacher EVER!!!
I absolutely love Dr. Weide! I have about two weeks left in his class and I really love the way he teaches. He gives lots of examples after teaching a concept and you can always ask him questions. He's really funny and explains well. Also, lab with him is great. He is clear and if not answers questions! And I had him over the summer!
I absolutely love Dr. Weide! I got a 95% in his class and I really love the way he teaches. He gives lots of examples after teaching a concept and you can always ask him questions. He's really funny and explains well. Also, lab with him is great. He is clear and if not answers questions! And I had him over the summer!
Knows his stuff and has an entertaining dry sense of humor, but he's not at all clear when explaining what he expects on labs/homework. His policy on making the whole class take a pop quiz if someone's phone goes off is demeaning and unnecessary at the college level. Not terrible, but I personally wouldn't take him again.
I had Dr. Weide for CHM130LL and wished I had him for lecture too. If you come to every class and pay attention as well as take notes this class is far from hard. He teaches things in steps in the classroom and always asks if anyone has question. Ask questions! He also never gave our class a pop quiz like others complained about. Great teacher!
Gets very easily distracted and does not explain things well. Makes you feel stupid when asking questions and does not even listen to know what the student is actually asking. I am a Chem major and was not impressed by his teaching.
Very helpful in showing exactly how labs are to be done prior to letting us loose in the lab. I wish I had him for lecture - his methods of explaining equation balancing and nomenclature were far more helpful than my lecture teacher's methods. Tests are hard, but only if you don't study. Would take his labs again, definitely.
Very monotone voice, but great sense of humor. Attend his study groups if confused for one on one.
He really knows his stuff, can explain the concepts of chemistry so it's easy to understand. He will drill the concepts into your head over and over. He's also has an odd sense of humor that keeps the class interesting. My only issue is his tests have some questions on stuff he didn't cover very well. Overall, a decent teacher
Professor Weide is very helpful, clear, and has a great sense of humor. I wish I could have taken lecture with him too. Highly recommend his class!
I had him for both lecture and lab. He has a good sense of humor; but he doesn't explain what he's talking about, and he talks to you like you're stupid when asking questions. Attend his study group because tests are hard. If you struggle with the subject and have a hard time grasping the concept, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Mr. Weide is a long time chem instructor. He knows the course material very well and has an effective method of teaching. He often uses real world examples to help get his point across. He's good at weeding out lazy students and the class gets easier as the semester progresses. Don't miss any classes, take notes and you'll do fine.
Weide is a great teacher I had him for both lecture and lab CHM-152. The people who rate him poorly are the ones who didn't pass, or did not put in the time necessary to succeed in his class. He gives you extra credit for multiple things and grades on a CURVE. This means you cannot fail! The reading assignments are easy and you work in a group.
Dr. Weide is skilled at providing a deep immersion into fundamental chemistry. I attended a compressed schedule (summer, 8 week) course but felt well versed in the fundamentals. Exams were tricky and required consientious work. Dr. Weide was always available for help and maintained easy communications via email. I highly recommend his class.
If you're a first year student and have a hard time keeping up with course material, he may not be the best teacher for you. He moves quickly and somewhat haphazardly through the material, but he does have some interesting stories to accompany the lecture, and clarifies as needed. If you don't already speak chemistry, consider an easier teacher.
He's a great instructor, but this class could be difficult if you don't study & ask questions. The labs are fun, and are quick (sometimes), but they also can be very long. There no tests, only major quizzes, and a final at the end. He rarely ever gives extra-credit, so work for that grade! But I personally enjoyed it, but not all my classmates did.
Do not take him, i got an A+ in that class but only because i self taught myself everyday and was exempt from the final. He was not clear on what he was teaching, and his notes sucks. Bad teacher, didnt care. do not take him. He offers maximum of 20 extra points, and gives you a chance to be exempt from the final if you get an A on all the test.
Weide is well interesting. His teaching methods are very confusing. You'll simply have study by yourself for this class. Be precise when it comes to experiments and HW as he grades very strictly. Labs are very boring, because they are simple. He has a very dry humor, which you will get use to. At first I hated him, but I ended up enjoying class.
He is very confusing I was totally lost, I heard good things about him for 130, but horrible for 152. I had no problem in my prior chemistry classes at mcc but really struggled with him.
I had never taken a Chemistry class before this one and was nervous about the difficulty of the course. If you put in the work, you can pass this class. Weide has a study group every week before class and is more than willing to help you with any questions you may have. He gives you all of the tools to succeed but studying is a must for this class!
Horrible clarity makes his CHM152 class hard. 50% class average AFTER a BIG curve on the first exam. He does problems on the board all class, taking obscure shortcuts, making them hard to follow. Don't expect to be prepared for higher level classes. Nice enough guy and funny, just over the hill I think.
The worst teacher I have ever had. I got an "A", but I had to teach my self everything and spend 2 hours a day in tutoring center.
Pay attention to the lectures, memorize all the info, study, practice especially if you are not familiar with chemistry. Practice and studyind will be your best friends!
Weide is over the hill. He is retiring soon which is a good decision on his part. Took him for lab only and was confused at his teaching (even when getting 98% in lecture with a different teacher). His constant references to "fireball" and his dirty old man jokes were distasteful. Don't take this class if you want to learn about chemistry.
I think he is retiring this semester (2016) he was hilarious and clear when lecturing, the labs were actually straightforward and easy to follow, and homework wasn't due until the class after the previous lab. Wish i would of taken him for my lecture as well, but his lab was also great.
Allows you to redo labs reports as many times as you can to get your best possible score. Very hilarious and understanding. He give extra credit opportunities . Take him.
I took this class over the summer and he came out of retirement to teach it. I thought it was difficult and his explanations were often confusing. However he is very understanding and curves like crazy. I failed almost every test including the final and he still passed me with a C.
He was extremely hard to follow. He would often stop in the middle of the lecture to make a joke or tell an inappropriate story. You can fail all the test but still pass with a decent grade. I am retaking the class because it does not prepare you for higher chemistry classes. Only take him if you want an easy A and don't need a higher chem classes.
I honestly tried to give Dr. Weide a chance, but he is just horrible. He took a course that is insanely easy, and made it very difficult. His lectures are hard to follow as he jumps around from topic to topic. He tests are very random and half unrelated to the course. Needless to say I switched to a different professor halfway through the year.
I wouldn't say he was bad, but sometimes you were expected to know things before class. So he'd have a lecture on something and talk about it for a little bit and that's it. Sometimes he isn't great when it comes to replying to emails.
The labs weren't difficult but if you didn't show up you had to make it up and sometimes the instructions given weren't as great as it should be.
His lecture was like watching paint dry. He got off topic so much and his tests had nothing to do with what he teaches in the lecture.
This class should be easy but it's immensely difficult in part to the total failure of the content structure. The course on Canvas is a confusing mess, the lectures are info dumps, and there is almost no collateral assignments to go with the content. Most would have failed if the tests weren't open book.
He's a great guy that knows his stuff but his lectures are hard to watch. If you have to take his class online I recommend playing the lecture in the background and go read his notes later to study. He does NOT want you to fail and gives you many chances to do assignments. If you put the effort in he'll give you a good grade. (both lab & lecture)
I emailed this teacher several times about material and incorrect grading and NEVER got a response. Does not listen to other students at all. Material is so-so, book isn't needed for the course necessarily but you're better off with a book.
If you value your sanity, don't take this class! Seriously. I cannot remember the last time I said "get on with it" so many times. Also, the notes are NO help so you have to show up but molasses moves faster than his lectures. It's seriously like watching paint dry. If you took chemistry in high school, it's an easy class but you'l be frustrated.
I dont understand the bad reviews! I took this online & it was my best grade of the semester. Hes a goofy dude & tries hard to make sure people pass. There were a lot of "extra" credit opportunities with reading assignments that are extremely easy. Had someone else for lab- THAT made it hard. Will need to google for clarification at times.
This teacher could use some organization. His lectures are kind of all over the place, so it's hard to follow along. I would advise tutoring, watching videos about the material on YouTube, and using the textbook to help. Only use his lectures for what to study on at home, because he won't teach you really how to do it, it won't make sense.
He's a really cool and funny dude. Jokes around and doesn't take it too seriously. Incredibly knowledgeable. I can see what others are saying in regards to the lectures being boring, BUT the text is boring? Overall awesome professor who actually cares. He also grades on a curve.
The test we hard at first but over all he was the best science teacher i had in forever. Everything was pretty straight forward. He would come in an hour early to help with the students that were having a hard time. Over all I would 100% take his class again.
I have completely mixed reviews of this professor. He absolutely knows his stuff. But his file structures are a dumpster fire. He's very funny, patient, and caring. But he goes over the same type of problem over and over in lectures. 4 tests in the final 3 weeks because he falls behind and has to catch up at the end.
