Stupid Class...don't take it unless you have to. He's kind of funny if you stay awake, though

Too big class, but easy going. He tries to be hostile, but is not bad at all.

Stay awake in this class and you will get some insight into the world. Weis has been in the real world and knows his ****-even if he is kinda lazy.

HUGE Class size. Just do the reading and you'll get an good grade. He sucks as a teacher, he pretty much literaly ready from the book to high light what you should read for next class. It doesn't even run the whole time it's schedualed for. Easy 3 credits
He refuses to answer any questions, he won't accept any email or phone calls. I don't know what he does actually because his TA makes and grades the tests, answers the questions, does all the grading and he reads everything straight from the book.
He is such a bad professor! Do not even think about taking this class as a gen ed. You will suffer! Even if you do read the material and pay attention to his boring lectures, you can't get an A. The exams test you on the most obscure information. Avoid!
Huge class size, but Weis manages it well. The only reason anyone I know goes is because it meets once weekly and he quizzes every week. Quizzes are easy though, but it's mostly common knowledge and stating the obvious. Easy A.
Class size around 450 or so. The quizzes are easy as long as you pay attention to what he says, since he tells you basically what will be on the quiz. Easy A!
Weis' quote of the night, "If you're not doing good in this class...oh boy..." It seems he gets pleasure out of making us feel like dumbasses...He doesn't teach...Just reads us out of the book...It's a good 2 hour nap and an easy A...
Weis teaches with a strong conservative bias. He often will wear cowboy style clothing, and read news reports which support his politically conservative views. Not an objective professor in any sense of the word.
He reads out of the book - yes - you can get by with just highlighting the parts he reads and you'll do well on the weekly quizzes. (Quizzes cover chapter(s) from the previous week and cover book information and videos) T/F quizzes. :)
Read the text in this class. Weis will repeat this over and over - and if you do, you will do well on the weekly quizzes. Although many will disagree, Weis shares alot of interesting info on the mass media -- he knows his stuff! Overall, a good class.
Weis does an ok job at teaching to a group of 400 plus students. He reads out of the text, which makes lecture extremely boring. He is also ver biased. His intellegence is hard to see in this gen ed.
Just bring a hilighter with you to class... he reads right out of the book. SOme of his comments get redundent and annoying.
Very boring! Easy A if you can handle listening to him blab for two hours. Quiz every week, but they are easy if you study and read the chapters.
Easy class if you go and highlight whatever he says that's in the book. Very negative and conservative views though. And it's also really hard to get a hold of him or his TA.
I don't get why people complain about this class so much. So it's long and boring... get over it, you're in college now. Weis knows what he is talking about and can be a pretty nice guy.
My best advice for anyone taking mass media and society? GO to ALL of the classes. Having a quiz every week really adds up in zeros if you don't go.....other then that you can live through it...
very knowledgeable...knows is !@#$...bring your book and a highlighter...he reads from the book so you know what is going to be on the test...quizzes every week on the previous weeks lecture and mostlikly a movie too....good teacher!!!
Very easy class. Bring the book + a highlighter and follow along. He just reads straight from the book for a little while and sometimes shows a movie. Almost never goes full class time.
He actually knows his stuff and can be a nice guy. Has a reputation for cancelling class and always has group work in the upper level MCOM classes - get a good group and you're set.
may seem "mean" on the outside, but if you listen to what he is saying, the man knows his stuff. He is actually a cool guy with a good sense of humor. You can learn a lot of important stuff about the biz from him. good prof.
i do not like this man. he constantly talked down on our class and our "generation" in this arrogant, bully sorta way, and with a big class there wasnt much we could do but sit there and take it. he didnt make himself available to us,made the
Reads straight from the book... gave my group in PR a B for putting our project in a manila envelope (huh?!) Otherwise, not that hard. He does know his stuff but come on, a B?!
there is no doubt that this man knows his stuff, but the smart alkey remarks need to cease sorry we can't help being born in a different generation.

No tests but quizzes every week. Long lectures and videos. Highlighting will help dearly in this class. No need to really read if you highlight. Pretty easy course.
If you go to class every week, do the reading, and sorta pay attention, this class is an easy A. The lectures are extremely boring and so are most of the videos. If you don't mind being bored, I would recommend the class. Have fun...lol
I learned alot in this class. Very interesting and appreciated his knowledge. Had a good sense of humor and wanted to see everyone do well. As long as you read the text and pay attention in class, you will have no problems getting an A.
I have taken almost every PR class with Prof. Weis. He is a great teacher who tells it like it is. Even though you may hear him talk about the marketing mix every day, you really do need to know it.
talks down to class, extremely boring, tests can be challenging
Easy class for the university standard. If you study for the quizzes, and half ass pay attention in class its an easy A.
Really EASY class. Just go. No test, just REALLY simple T/F quizzes on common sense stuff generally. Class doesn't even take 2 1/2 hours like it says, 1 1/2 - 2 hrs at the most. Easy for 3 credits.
Hates freshmen but likes you the older you get. Want to impress him? Approach him with a large vocabulary and act like a Junior. Do not expect him to help you outside of class or to hear you out on any argument... don’t expect him to remember your n
is totally against us, belittles students in a very passive aggresive way. says stuff like "oh but you guys are different" after he insults us. read directly from the book for lectures. vivians little sidekick said youd fail w/out book i got an
He's the laziest prof I ever had. He doesn't teach about real PR at all - not an asset to WSU. I worked at a PR agency and quickly realized that his teaching is worthless. Nice guy, but really lazy. WILL NOT return calls or e-mails.
well it was an easy class...he was SOO boring though. all he does is read directly from the book. by the end i would sit in the balcony with headphones and a magazine. still got a B. just read the book.
The class was easy, but yes, VERY boring! Read the book and sleep in class and you'll be fine. He is a fun character to doodle! Don't expect him to be your friend or anything, he seems way too busy and has like hundreds of students a day.
It's a boring class... but if you listen and actually do the reading, you'll do fine. Make sure you listen to the lectures-- he'll ask questions about little things he mentioned. He's not very helpful... but that's to be expected with that many students
mass media is easy, though boring. he gets better as you get into your major. pr cases is a huge paper but thats all you do, pretty easy. research a big paper, but also pretty easy. he is a good guy, good teacher, and not bad at all.
It is so easy not to pay attention but you have to. It is an easy A, but you have to listen throughout the whole class. He always lets you go early, but it still sucks. Just reads out of the Text, which really sucks... we could do that at home :(.
Prof. Weis is a very boring lecturer and the class is also crazy boring but you need it if you are to become a Mass Communication major.
fairly easy, just read the book and listen in lecture. he always lets you out early, which is nice. quizzes weekly so go to class.
I like him...MCOM 100 can be easy if you read and go to the lecture..but it's boring. He's a lot nicer when you talk to him one on one.
Lets just say he is the ruddest, most inconsiderate man in the world.....and he gets super pissed when u tell the dean that him and one of his advisors are a**holes.
GPA Killer! I got all A's on every assignment and project and a C on the final. Although the final was only worth a small percentage of the final grade, he gave me a C for the class. When I approached him, he said that I can't get a C on the final and expect a better final grade.
he looks like a bowling pin. he's extremely blunt, sometimes rude. not very helpful, but if you are sick and need to e-mail assignments, he isnt a jerk. just don;t skip out on class, he will make your life hell. always e-mail or call to show him that u care. once, again, he is a bowling pin.
I liked the class, it was pretty interesting and I think he does a good job teaching the material. However, he sometimes makes our age group seem inferior, which gets old fast. Know the material for the tests and show up and you'll be fine.
Somehow our generation is completley stupid according to him... Pretty easy class but he's having an attendance policy next semester so instead of unlimited absences, you can only miss once.
Professor Weis is a boring professor but he knows his stuff very well. His lectures can be unbearable at times, thank goodness for laptops and wireless internet! If you highlite the material he goes over in the text you'll pass the quizzes without a problem.
If you memorize the side notes in the book, you can usually do decently well on the quizzes. He does ask questions from the videos and what "he" says in class, so that sucks. There was a quiz every week, so you have to go. It's boring, but you can kill time by going online.
Fairly Good Professor. Definately knows his stuff (atleast I think). MCOM class was easy if you read for the Quiz. I found most of the stuff he talked about to be very interesting and informative. Kind of talks down about the college students, but, sadly, he is right.
I love Weis!!! He and Drake are the only great teachers in the Winona Mass Comm Departmenr
if you go to his office dont expect much more than getting put on the spot. i went in to talk about how to do better... and he gave me the test and made me answer the questions them infront of him...all of them. he raises everyones percentage 1 percent at the end of the course. ex: 89% goes to a 90%
he is rude and is shaped like a bowling pin. he is so mean and tells freshman they ask too many questions. not willing to help anyone. i had him for orientation as well as mass media. he gave me an NC when i turned in ALL OF THE WORK. i emailed him to ask why, and he was a DICK about it. JERK!
i hardly studied at all and got 3rd highest grade out of 474 students. kinda of blowhard, claims to be impartial, but not really. interesting viewpoints at least. most students have to take it, so just get it over with cuz it ain't that bad.
horrible professor. i would not recommend taking him. i read a chapter 3 times and studied and still failed the quiz.
ok. This is the MOST POINTLESS class under the sun. Why is it even a general for mass comm majors? I can honestly say i've not learned a thing from this class. Prof Weis doesn't even teach either! He just reads straight out of the book and reads the test questions after everyone gets them wrong! grr
I have never taken a class like this before. I find the information intriguing and useful. It can get long, but it is a 2 and a half hour class. Weis seems like a jerk most of the time, but he is a really good teacher, and he can be surprising. This class is not hard, and is worth taking.
AAAAHHH!!! This is a horrible class! Weis talks too fast and too soft. He reads everything right out of the book. He thinks he knows everything and that he is always right. His tests are what was in the book, on the movies, or what he said. I would NOT take this class! I didn't learn a thing!
This class is very easy. Read the textbook and pay attention during lecture/movies and you should do fine.
HES A LIAR!!! he said on the first day of class that he was dropping our lowest test score and then the last week he jsut changes his mind. I got a B when i should have had an A, hes a real ****ER!!!
He seems like a jerk, but he really isn't. Just listen in class, read the book and watch the movies and I guarantee at least a "B." Write down anything that he writes down (which is like twice during the semester) because it will be on the quiz. Take this class, because it is interesting and you learn a lot of useful information.
Class is not difficult, but he can be somewhat unfair with grading. I got an A on every assignment, but didn't do so well on the final. Instead of following the syllabus' grading, he gave me a C in the class. By calculating my final grade with the syllabus, I should have gotten a low A or high B. Talking about it with him did not help.
full of himself and not at all interested in the concerns of the students
easy class, DICKHEAD PROF.
I disagree with what the previous person said. Weis answers questions as best he can while teaching the largest class at Winona State. Tests are True/False
Smart man. To the point. Does what he needs to for teaching, if you cant get past this class, you're pretty screwed. It's simple, not always as easy as he plays it out to be, but read and take notes, and you'll do fine. He's harsh about our generation, but he's right. Interesting class.
I really hated this class. I took it for a university study. I had a hard time getting an A. I read the book, took notes, and studied, and I couldn't seem to get higher than a B. I took this class thinking it would be an easy A since there are 500 kids in it, but I was wrong.
This class sucks!
I had him for Public Relations...he really knows what he's talkin about, and can be boring and his ego flares up everyonce an while, but you really do learn a lot about PR and advertising, plus he only makes you have class like once a week or so and theres no final only a group portfolio...i encourage people to take Public realtions with him..glad
He lectures all hour, shows videos, as a class it's okay, quiz every week, the quizzes i never got an A on, it's hard to tell from all teh info he gives us what he's going to put on the quiz. The class itself i didn't really enjoy but i did think that he was a good teacher, he knows what he's talking about up there.
I actually didn't like the guy at first, but as the semester when on I liked him more. He is a good guy and is cares a lot about the topics he talks about. One of the reasons I like him is because he dropped all of our lowest test scores and we don't have to take a final. I wouldn't take the class because its boring though.
This guy sure loves communication. However, the class had over 500 students and his lectures tend to get long. The quizes arent that bad and even if you dont do well on the quizes, you will probably do okay in the class.
He is harsh, but it helps. if youre not used to being critizied, then Mass Comm isnt the field for you. if you do bad, he will point it out in front of the class, but if you do well, he will make a point of it as well.
If you are looking for a critical, unhelpful, unmotivated professor, you have Pro Weis. Very critical man with poor communication skills. He provides new lecture material and shows a video before you take the quiz on information he lectured about the week before. E-mailing professor with ?'s isn't worth the time, very rude and unprofessional.
This man told a student that she had no future in any professional field and that he hoped she didn't bring her personality with on a job interview. Just a jerk, doesn't care about helping students. He makes it clear that he couldn't care less. When he gets on his soap box, you might as well pay to go to a political rally. Avoid all direct contact.
Sure, his lectures can get boring, but about 90% of the time, they only go from 6-7:30. Quizzes are easy and straightforward if you read the chapter a week. Note what he generally repeats several times in class. Gets straight to the point. Not much outside help in this class. Go to class, read the chapter, and you'll be fine.
I don't know about his higher MCOM classes (which have some bad reviews), but the infamous MCOM 100, the largest class at WSU, is easy. The class is usually cut an hour short, his lectures which can get boring sometimes, are about what's going to be on next week's quiz and nothing else. Show up, and read the chapter and you'll do fine.
Dumbest class i have ever taken, the only thing its good for is getting rid of some of your generals. his lectures bore you to tears, but if you can make it through the class you'll be 3 more credits further. Hurray for you!
Do NOT take if you don't have to! The only way people did well in this class was cheating on the quizzes by using answers from kids who had taken the class before & kept the quiz copies/answers. It's confusing, and reading the chapters won't get you too far becuz u won't have a clue what he might ask on the quizzes. His lectures are boring!
This class frustrated me! Quizzes every week and are like 30-40 points and I always read the chapters at least once..Questions on quizzes were in depth questions so you really have to understand the chapter. A lot of the people did good in the class just because they cheated by getting the quizzes from people who took it in the past!
I hate ****en Cheaters
this class is easy.. just go to it once a week.. anyone could teach this class.. do the little reading assignments every week and u'll do fine on the tests which are true and false only everytime.. most of the stuff is common sense.. and if u need to cheat in his class to get better than a B u shouldnt be in college
If you had to cheat to do well in this class you need to go back to highschool... it is called reading... and it is the littlest bit of reading on top of it... the class was so easy and he is a good prof. he makes it as fun as it can be telling stories... class gets alittle old but it is 3 credits you meet once a week for like an hour... EASY A or
The easist class possible. It's schedule for 2 and a half hours a week but he usually lets you go after 1-1.5 hours. If you read the chapter the quiz is on you'll be fine.
He is a bad teacher. He gives you 30 pt. T/F quizzes every week and will try to trick you with the answers. Don't take.
Easy A class. Just show up, read the book and study the notes he gives in class and you will do fine. He can be funny sometimes-overall very nice and just wants you to succeed. He lets you out of class early all the time and usually makes class last until 7:30. Interesting class.
He's pretty easy. You pretty much don't even need the book as long as you pay attention during his lectures. He's kind of full of himself but he's really smart about what he teaches and it's pretty much all common sense to begin with. If you can't get a good grade in this class then you either probalby shouldn't be in college or Mass Comm.
For all of the people that are complaining about this class and teacher - get over it. This class is extremely easy if you pay attention in his lecture and read the chapter that is assigned. Yes there is a quiz every week but it is only 25-30 points of T/F. If you read the questions carefully they aren't tricky! Take the class it's easy!
He doesn't respond to emails or calls. He doesn't like laptops. The class regularly consists of a powerpoint, outdated movies and quizzes. He never keeps you for the full two and a half hours. There isn't a final. He drops the lowest quiz grade. Register your clicker. And taking notes from the powerpoint can be impossible- highlight from the book.
Good prof, easy class. The very first class, I thought he was a big jerk, but he's actually a very good guy, and I like his teaching style. At first, I was concerned about all the quizzes being T/F, but none of them are tricky at all. Just pay attention in class. Reading the book definately helps, but it's possible to get by without it.
this class is super easy. you don't have to read the book or take notes. he quizzes you every week on what you learned the week before on power point, so all you have to do is look over it when he's teaching the stuff for next week. and as long as you sit in the balconey and hide your laptop, you can totally not pay attention to his lectures
Good professor, and super easy class. As long as you pay attention in class and study his powerpoints, there's no reason not to get an A. Also, no need to purchase the book.
hmmmmm his class is easy but its super long and boring .....the key to this class is to print off the notes online then go to class and study durning the lecture take the quiz..you shouldnt ave any problems and it helps the class go alittle faster.
Very knowledgeable about topics. Class got long at times, but you're never there until when class is scheduled to end, usually an hour before you're out the door. Don't need to buy the book. Didn't open it once and got an A. Pay a little attention, study the powerpoints before the quiz, and you'll do fine.
Yeah this class is so boring. Unless you like learning about the history of newspapers etc. You're not gonna like this class. I guess it's also an easy class, but he sucks at writing tests. Oh and you can't use your laptop.
Professor Weiss is very good. His class is extremely easy. I got an A and didn't use the book. All you have to do is go to class and listen most of the time and then read the power point before the class. Yea its long but its once a week and you're usually out before 7:20. I hate people who cheat in this class. Seriously, its a 100 level class.
Weis is the easiest professor ever. He is lazy so he doesnt expect much out of students either. DONT BUY THE BOOK! Just go to every class and write down the things that he repeats over and over. He gives you HUGE hints as to what will be on the quiz. There is no reason not to get an A. He even put powerpoints on D2L.
Class is super Easy! But really boring--no laptops allowed, he tends to get off subject so all you need to do is reveiw the chapter before class, and take the quiz then it should be an easy A! He also grades on a curve
The class is just a huge lecture. He just reads off the power points which he posts later on D2L. There are weekly quizzes of about 40 points. If there is ever a week where it is just a video and no quiz, go anyways, because he will give answers to next weeks quiz. The class is boring but easy. I would recommend it.
Not the worst class you can EASILY get a B in it without reading the book, just pay attention to lecture, which is somewat interesting and then look at the power point on D2L. Movies and SO BORING though and it sucks because they are on the test too. Lowest test score is dropped, use clickers, can't sit next to people- one seat away
He is a lazy bum that read off his powerpoints. It is a very easy class if you go and read the powerpoints, you don't even have to listen to him during lecture. He has his TA do practically everything for him.
Overall you can tell he's passionate about what he's talking about. Of course it's hard for him to talk to anyone personally because of the 450 people in class. Easy class, just study his notes and you'll do fine. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, NO MATTER WHAT HE TELLS YOU. I didn't buy it and I got an A in the class just using the powerpoints!
don't buy the text book (you'll never use it). there's a test every week on the topic from the week before. he posts the power points on d2l. easiest thing to do is print out the power points and study for the test during lecture. he's boring and acts like he hates our generation. but its an easy class; i got a B without trying.
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! you dont use it at all. You just study his powerpoints for the quizes. Very Easy and he always lets you out early
Yes, he seems lazy, but I think he deserves more credit than he gets. This class is VERY easy and the only quizzes are true and false. DON'T BUY THE BOOK. Everything you need to know are off of his slide shows. You almost always get out of class an hour early, which is nice. Lectures can be long, but just do homework or study during lecture.
He's already retired, but just teaches for fun. Only, his TA does everything. DON'T BUY THE BOOK. It's super easy. There's a weekly quiz--it's a night class--that's extremely easy. You can only miss one class though.
Weis is one of the best profs at WSU. He has a prickly personality but once you get beyond that he is a phenomenal prof. People confuse his unwillingness to accept lazy work with him being a jerk. If you get a chance to take a class with him, DO IT! He will prepare you for the real world better than anyone else.
EASY class, powerpoints every week you get online study during the lecture then take a true-false quiz. He always lets out early and puts his two sense in everything which can be funny. DON'T BUY THE BOOK, HE WILL TELL YOU TO BUT DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Easy. quiz each week, questions straight off the power point. Dont buy the textbook, i didnt, still got an A. I barely tried so if you get a C or lower or get the persistence of vision question wrong, your probably a dumbass.
Not a fan of his but the class is very easy. Don't buy the book as I never opened it out of the shrink wrap. Kind of a prick.
Super easy class!! Never any homework, he posts the powerpoints on D2L and all you have to do is read them and then take a true-false quiz on it. He WILL tell you to buy the book, but DON'T, you will NEVER use it! I bought it and didn't even take it out of the plastic wrap, waste of money. Boring class, can't use laptops, but bring Cosmo or an Ipod
The class is extremely boaring, cant sit next to anyone or use computers. DO NOT PURCHASE BOOK, i did & havent opened it out of shrink wrap. Easy A or B if you have other classes your worried about. Just review power points and you will do great!
This class is really easy, and Professor Weis has some good insights on the past and future of mass communication. Easy three credits. I would not recommend buying the text.
Very boring class I thought. But there is a quiz every week so attendance is mandatory. Don't buy the book, I didnt and easily got a B. Puts all powerpoints on D2L. I recommend this class for easy credits
If you can get past the fact that he's ridiculously opinionated, makes bold claims with no evidence to back them up and treats college kids like they're in elementary school, it's a pretty easy class. Don't buy the book and study the Powerpoints (which are posted on D2L); you'll be fine.
It sucks that this class is mandatory especially because it is a night class. Quizzes are always at the end of class but DONT BUY THE BOOOK!!!!! print off his slideshows and review them before the quiz while he talks about next weeks quiz information. EVERYTHING IS ON THE POWERPOINTS!
Very blunt and rude at times.
Don't Buy the Text Book you do not NEED it!! and He can be Very Rude at times, (Almost seems as if he hates students and younger people in general), which is kind of weird since Mass Communication is such a progressive field that adapts to newer generations.
Pretty easy lecture class. There is a quiz every week but you take it at the end so you can study for the quiz during class. The quizzes are pretty easy and are all true and false. He takes cheating pretty seriously. Overall an easy class.
Great professor. You may have had him for MCOM 100, but don't be deceived--he does, in fact, expect a lot from his upperclassmen students which is great because he WILL prepare you for the real world. Don't confuse his comments with rudeness... he wants his students to succeed... at least the ones with common sense. It's a shame he's leaving soon.
weis isn't a good professor really, i mean i got an A in the course, but he asseumes that you already know so much about MCOMM already...which we dont. Quizzes every week, study the powerpoints and you will do fine, dont buy the book cause you dont need it. If your looking for a class with a little bit of studying but not all that bad, this is it.
Really easy class. Don't buy the book, I never used it and still got an A. You take a test every week at the end of class. Just study for it during class. He may come off as rude, but teaching 300 freshmen about stuff you already know a lot about can't be too exciting. Take if you want an easy A and only meet once a week.
