This was a really good instructor. He always helped when you needed it. The essays you has to write were really interesting, and if you got less then a C on them, you got the option to rewrite them. Overall, this class was really entertaining. Take Him!
instruction about asignments- very confusing. I revised several essays multiple times and still received a C. Revising did not raise my grade. He taught me to hate english classes. I do NOT recommed this instructor.
I think this class is a good class but he is very unclear on assignments and unclear on class work, he needs to explain himself better. I think he also needs to go over the reading assignments with us as a class before we need to do assignments so that we have better understanding of the readingd
He is very unclear. It is really easy to get behind in his class. he is unclear on assignments and the class is just overall boring and requires a little bit to much in depth thinking for me.
Hes a nice guy but hes so unclear! I find myself always getting lost in his lectures and what he lectures about has no relevance to your assignments. The class would be easy if he was clear on what he expects from you on an assignment but since hes not it makes it really hard.
Horrible teacher! Very unclear, and unfair grader. I challenged my midterm essay grade and had his grade overthrown. Bad structure and vague assignments. Did not show students what he wanted in revision essays. Don't take him if you are unclear about your writing ability!
JOHN WESER IS A VERY NICE TEACHER, AND HE IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU NEED HELP. SOME ASSIGNMENTS MAY NOT BE CLEAR FOR SOME STUDENTS, BUT HE IS WILLING TO GO OVER WITH YOU AT HIS OFFICE TIME. HE GIVES GOOD GRADE TO GOOD STUDENTS, HARD STUDY. I WOULD NEVER FORGET HIM AS MY GOOD TEACHER EVER.
John challenges u but it's worth it! I kno I learned a lot & he is really helpful if u seek help urself. He leaves that up 2 u! So if u take 1 of his classes & begin 2 find it challenging TALK 2 HIM! He really works w/u so that u gain as much insight as u can 2 improve. U actually hav 2 THINK w/him!
If your not too proud to ask for help then you won't have a problem with Weser. He helped a lot. He's challenging so as to draw out your creativity. I had no insterest in English (D and F in H.S.) but really liked Weser. He's enjoyable and flexable: works with you on late assignments. If you dont get a good grade from Weser you don't deserve one.
One of the best teachers ive had! I had 100a and 100 b with him as well and he is incredibly insightful, creative, witty, and humorous lecturer. He is challenging so do not take his class if you merely wish to squeak by. He'll demand a lot of you, but that is the only way you grow as a writer! He certainly inspired me.

He's a cool teacher ... not bad, he ain't winning no special awards though
I think this teacher is great i've never really been interested in english but i tend to look foward to his class. He's very set in his own ways which sucks sometimes but if you can look past that and really pay attention in his class you'll learn a lot.
He was the worst teacher I have had at the JC. He was never on subject, and would not explain what he was wanting you to do with your assignments. If you want to learn english DO NOT TAKE HIM !!!!
if you are looking for an easy profesor mr weser is not it.
I see a lot of people saying they weren't too fond of Weser... honestly, I liked this guy. I'm not sure why exactly - at first I didn't care for him or what he was teaching... I wasn't too interested in his assignments, but he always gave me good grades and there was no final. It was easy. I think the way this guy acts depends on how you act.
It is tragic to see bad reviews of John. I took Weser for both 100b (now 100) and 1B. I liked John's classes allot and recommend him to the student that likes English. However, if you were used to getting A's in high school, John is not going to care. College is much more challenging and Weser is a college professor not a high school babysitter.
Mr.Weser was by far the best teacher I've ever had.He may seem intimidating but he's Extreamly helpful. If there was an essay you don't understand he is very willing to provide you with help.He DOES stay on corse very well, some people may not understand his method. Not only does Weser want you to learn but he wants you to understand, english.
I took Weser on a recommendation, and I ended up taking him twice. No ****, great teacher. I write a little for small mags and I'm a high school drop out. But under Weser's guidence I'm writing work that I can sell. Weser doesn't put up with little kid****, so don't take him if you want to act like it's still your senior year.
Weser rocks my socks, I will probally dedicate a book to him in the future.
Mr. Weser is great he has enabled me to write better then I ever thought I could. He is extremly helpful if you don't understand and gives you oportunities to revise to pull up your grade. If your looking for a free ride dont bother but his work load is fairly easy. Good Luck and enjoy
You definitely have to work for your grade. But he makes the effort well worth it. He will help you open up, and be able to see past just the words on the page. Greatest teacher I have ever had.
If you show interest and attend class he is sure to notice your hard work. Write essays from the heart and regardless of containing some errors you will get a decent grade. He is enthusicastic about the class content and engages the whole class. Everyone I have talked to says the same. If you are truely interested in liturature you will enjoy it.
I loved this class. If you're interested at all in english or just interesting class discussion, he is for you. You need to ask if you're confused because he does move quickly and assumes you know the basics but he's more than willing to help and loves a good debate/discussion.
We had a lot of in class lectures, and discussions on the reading assignments we had. Most of the assignments and tests are from the reading, which were usually short storys or poems. I liked the class, but it wasn't my favorite by far.
If you put the effort into your work, it will really pay off! He will work with you, so approach him (he is the nicest guy.)Come to class, come on time, and toss the syllabus out the window! Just go will the flow and open your mind to new ideas. OH! And, I think he secretly enjoys Star Wars music. It will help you if you send some his way.
liked his class. he's a very helpful teacher for students who are willing to learn and improve their essays. he's a fun teacher who keeps your attention during class. his essays that he assigned were actually fun to work on and he helped a lot.
Though this class was easy it was so pointless. I did not like this class at all. He would have you do research on something and then you would never do anything with it. I found him to be extremely boring and a waste of my time
the first day of class i walked out planning on dropping his class. but i went back and found that he was a very helpful teacher. he really wants to help improve each student's essay writing skills. lectures can be boring but if you turn in lots of drafts for your essays you will definitely receive an A
hardass
Worst english teacher I've ever had. If you love english don't take him, if you hate english don't take him. His prompts range from being 1 line to 2 paragraphs in length. He gives very little instruction and will give you a C on a paper if you do not email him (regardless of if it is a good paper of not) DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Mr. Weser is a kooky ol chap. A fun person and I did learn how to write an essay. Some of his lectures were completely off topic, but he has passion for what he teaches. He wants you to do good and is available to help you if you ask for help. Good teacher, Good class
Weser is a nice guy with a complex mentality. He is unusually curious and has a somber approach to his material. Use ur resources if u take his class! Go to the writing center and get help! As far as an english1b teacher, i dont think it is is forte. because other people in his other classes like him. didnt do much for me in his class, i failed it
some people really like him and others really hate him. i've learned that as long as you ask for help and keep in touch with him (regarding essays), he is always willing to help. lectures get a little dull and boring sometimes.
At first I thought he was boring...boy was I wrong! He's very passionate & has a good sense of humor & really wants you to do well. If you talk with him & email him he is more than willing to work with you, give you extra time, etc. The essay prompts can be difficult, but do the readings, keep in touch with him & participate in class & your good.
In short, I loved this guy. He was incredibly helpful, his instructions were always clear, and his style was just great. He and I had countless little sit downs throughout the semester where we debated all sorts of various topics, discussed various realities of life, and went over abstract ideas I, and he himself had over the text we were reading.
At first, I thought he seemed hard and impossible to work with, but soon I realized he is a good teacher with just a werid way of going about it. There is alot of reading and writing involved and be ready for some boring and endless lectures
John Weser is a great English teacher! He may seem a little intimidating at first, but he's got a great sense of humor and is genuinely interested in what he teaches. Strict about sticking to writing prompts, but will work with you and give you an extension if you submit your work to him for review before it is due. Not a hard class if you try.
Do not ever ever ever ever take his class! He is a horrible teacher. He does not explain things clearly at all. He can be extremely rude when you ask him for help. Take my advice and do not take his class. I wish I would have not taken English at all this semester instead of taking his class. It was not worth it.
Mr Weser really is a great teacher, he seems a little like a mad professor when he goes on little tangents but if you actually listen he is talking about really relevant stuff. If you email and keep in touch with him he is really helpful and will give you an extension on you essay :)
Good teacher, i had him for 302 easy A. Now i had him for 1B and same thing, as long as you pay attention and keep in constant contact with him you should get nothing below a B, he helps you with revisions for your papers also, he has the best intentions in mind for his students
I don't understand why Mr Weser is getting bad comments, honestly he is an awesome teacher because he actually makes you THINK. He was amazing with feedback on essays and about being really specific about holes I had in my essays. It is so rare when a teacher actually tells you specifically how or why something isn't working. He brings up a lot of
I knew I would like this guy when he let me join his class two meetings after it started. Most Professors won't let you do that. Lectures were amusing and had really good discussions (he's a character). His classes aren't for slackers, but if you meet with him and revise your papers you'll probably pass. Talking to him is very interesting.
I absolutely loved John Weser as an instructor as his teaching style allowed for my mind to think critically through every lecture and assignment as we were expected to challenge the obvious. I never thought I would develop into an individual with an appreciation for literature as I do now; I contribute this to his enthusiasm put fourth in class.
Weser is a great character! He has a teaching style that takes a little getting used to, and his class may seem intimidating at first but after some time you'll love him! He has a lot of insight to every essay you write but you MUST make appts with him to truly make the most of it. Makes you think, great prof.
a character! he will randomly burst out with energy about what he is teaching, helps you improve, uses text books like they are a bible, can be confusing about what he wants, and there's a lot of writing. great teacher. do what he says and actually improve your drafts you will get a good grade DONT TALK during class, he will yell/kick you out.
Weser is quite the character, his outbursts are truly entertaining and surprisingly relevant. As a teacher, he is extremely unclear about due dates and his email system is pretty flawed. His class isn't easy, you can't miss as much as 1 class without falling far behind. He is an awesome person, not my favorite teacher though.
coool, chill, emails you all the time whic is really helpfull... always there to help you. his feedback is good, he made me a good writer
Weser has an interesting personality, but not one that is good for teaching, he gives vague assignments, doesnt answer questions accuratly, and has not given back 1 assignment a couple months in, if you want an english class where you do pretty much everything yourself and get no feedback, this class is for you! Note: bring coffee, class is boring.
weser is not my favorite! he is extremely unclear, doesnt email you back right away, and when he doesnt feel like responding he will ignore it. i can honestly say i tried my hardest in this class and as the semester is coming to an end im almost 100% that im going to have to retake this class! so terrible and boring no interest in it at all!!!
Professor Weser is a fun teacher, his lessons are interactive and he seems genuinely enraptured by writing...but he is very difficult to understand and he has a habit of springing assignments and essays on you in e-mails Saturday night
He is unclear on due dates, does not follow up as soon as he says. He is very unhelpful. He is super picky and lectures too much in class. I advise you not to take his class.
Mr. Weser is an interesting teacher with good in-class lectures, but the homework assigned out of class can often be vague. He does not email you back immediately, but in some cases he will give you an extra class day (if possible) to revise an essay if you asked him for advice. I feel I have learned from his class, but, as I said, he is vague.
I don't recommend this class. It wasn't too difficult, and Weser is a nice man, but he's very bizarre, and VERY disorganized. I had no idea what when assignments were due, there were a TON of essays, and I didn't take notes because I knew I wouldn't understand them the next day. He also always let us out late. I did not enjoy this class at all.
This is a writing workshop so be prepared for a lot of work. Everything he says builds on itself as the semester progresses so you have to be there for every class. You need to meet with him regularly to discuss your writing (both current and complete) but he's quite friendly and interested in what students have to say so don't be shy about it.
This was my 2nd semester with Mr. Weser. I took him for Eng 100 and thought he was a wonderful thought provoking instructor with a lot of insight into the world. Not an easy class, but Mr. Weser is more than willing and even expects to help the students on his own time. Would take future classes from him!
Mr. Weser is a very good teacher that has a thorough knowledge of his subject with very engaging classroom lectures. If you go into one of his classes for the first time, don't feel intimidated! If you're confused about something or need help with a paper, ask him! He's there to help. Would take again! :-)
Be prepared to work hard and learn a lot in Mr. Weser's class. English 1a is no easy A, but if you are an active participant, you can become a better, more thoughtful writer. Go to office hours and ask for help- he's very friendly. The in-class discussions are engaging and if you put the time in, you will be truly amazed at the quality of your work
He's eccentric, vague, odd, and awesome. Don't miss class, do the assigned reading, do multiple essay drafts to keep a good process grade (that was my problem), and take advantage of office hours and e-mailing him. If you love literature and are naturally good at it, this class is perfect for you. If you suck at writing and always have, stay away!
Weser's class is a chess game meets Sherlock Holmes, and i love every minuet of it. Make no mistake Weser will separate the pros from the joes, its a heck of a ride. vague and cryptic...ask a question...get an answer. heres a tip if you can win at chess you can do good in Weser's class. a2 to a5 before a7 moves and you have it...
Mr. Weser was an awesome teacher! He is smart and interesting, with tons of experience teaching English at the college level. My friend and I are both taking English 1A with him next semester. P.s. You must meet with him in his office to have any chance earning a higher grade because he gives great pointers on how to improve your writings.
Great teacher! Have been out of school for a long time and struggled with writing when I was in school. Really gave me confidence when it came to writing!
If you want an A in his class you need to attend daily and visit him in his office hours. He is a stickler for revision, he wants to same the same paper written at least 3x and he won't give very much feedback unless you make a point to talk with him, which he expects. He can be unclear sometimes. Also read/studied book we were went over.
Great teacher! A bit moody but very interesting. lots of writing and rewritig with great feed back.
Weser is a great teacher for those who are already fantastic at writing. He expects that you take time out of your schedule to meet with him, far too often than is possible. He also expects that you revise each paper you write about a thousand times. He's a great guy, very interesting and fun to talk to. But a very vague and unclear teacher.
Mr w. is the bomb digity. He tells it how it is and leaves nothing in the air, If there is a topic that needs clarification, he is always glad to help. Not only that but he takes feedback very seriously. As long as the curriculum is followed and the grade is actually cared about success will be had. Show up + do work = pass class.
Keeps class interesting. Fun and interactive. Homework is minimal, but do it. Approachable and responds to email if you want your work reviewed prior to due date.
This class is as hard as you make it. If you show up and do your homework and keep in contact it will be a breeze. He is one of the greatest English teachers I have had. I would take another class with him. My writing has grown in one semester. TAKE HIM!You won't regret it. It is rare to have a teacher care as much as he does.
Really funny and nice guy. He really WANTS you to succeed and cares about your long term progress as opposed to just getting a good letter grade. Don't be shy and ask for help, he is more than willing to be there for you when you are facing trouble with you work.
He's very funny and honestly wants you to do well in his class. He is very understanding and extremely willing to work with you in your given situation.
Weser's class was the hardest class I've taken... It was considerably harder than the English 1B and Philosophy 5 (meets english requirement) I took after. That being said, he completely taught me how to write. He grades VERY harshly, but WILL work with you and your revisions until you receive an A. Take the class if you want to learn to write.
He wants to be helpful but never is. he blames things on you and tells you that MLA formatting is off. he is a good teacher and I've learned a lot from him but he isn't that understanding
Weser is a true writers best friend. He will find the marrow of your work and have you hone your pieces into respectable, fluid essays. By the end of class you will become a competent writer. He is a fan of the classics, I'd recommend getting a grasp of the likes of Hemingway and Jack London to get a good base to work from.
Hes super nice and intelligent, loves interacting with his students, but doesn't make your grades readily available. Leaves it to the students to be proactive and schedule "office hour" appointments. Grades are not easily accessed with him.
Great professor
Fun teacher, is not the clearest so ask in person and he'll help you. If you don't seem to care about your grade then he won't either but if you ask question and communicate with him he is reasonable. I'm personally not the best writer so talking to him helped me orientate my essay to his standards.
Mr Weser is an interesting, unconventional teacher. At the beginning of the semester, I had no idea what he wanted us to do and I thoght he was a joke. But I changed my mind after talking to him in office hours. Mr Weser is really a great guy. GO TALK TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS. I can't stress this enough. He's helpful and wants you to succeed.
This class wasn't the most organized, but if you showed up, paid attention, and participated in the discussion, it was actually pretty enjoyable. He is definitely passionate about literature (the class I took), and he is willing to help anyone as much as they need it. If you feel like you are confused about anything in this class, just talk to him.
he always gave me good feed back and helped me gain my confidence in writing.i strongly recommend him
Mr. Weser is very understanding and gives helpful feedback on essays. I have become a better writer because of him.
I took Mr. Weser for English 1B and I really enjoyed it. He makes you look at literature in a completely different light and you often discover things you did not see before. He also really helped improve my writing. I recommend visiting him in his office hours because he will help you tremendously with your writing skills and essays. Great guy!
Overall he's a good teacher. There were definitely times where i didn't understand a writing assignment. He uses E-mail that seems to bother most so don't take his class if you don't like using e-mail. It seems that you're always working on an essay but he gives great feedback if you ask him to look at it before you turn it in.
Course was OK, Class overall had some diffiuclty with the material and understanding his lessons, but was overall an enjoyable course. Figurative learning was the core, and was well taught. Being in the dark about the grade unless asking was not really appreciated...
I'm historically an A+ English student. I admit feeling a bit bitter because there was a paper I was forced to rewrite that I knew was flowing with quality and creative ideas, but not completely what he asked for. The paper he made me rewrite was blank and robotic, and it received an A. Hated that. On another level, he's there to help, and he cares
He is really nice and understanding, makes an effort to actually get to know you. There was homework and essays but he made sure everyone understood the assignments. Participation goes a long way with him so don't skip class. He is always there to help edit anything, and offers opportunities to redo your essay. BEST ENG. CLASS SO FAR!
Very tough grader. If you meet with him at his office hours he will go over your essays with you and help you A LOT. Expects a lot from you, but is there to help. Gives you extra time to refine your essays if you need it so you can get the highest grade possible on it.
Assigns Essays and then doesn't give feedback unless you ask. Even then it takes days to weeks to get any feedback. Talks about very little vocabulary and writing techniques once, then expects you to be able to identify these writing techniques in papers.
Yes this class is hard, but he really does want you to learn. He gets picky at times but ultimately it's because he wants you to succeed. He had health issues this semester so naturally he was a bit unorganized. He was sincere when he apologized. I do feel for him. Lots of drawn out essays, no tests, a lot of reading articles & responses
Mr. Weser is a phenomenal teacher. Definitely taking him for 1A next semester. He was incredibly helpful and every class was a fun class. We have a lot of class discussions and we group up to discuss topics as well. Not to many papers either. Honestly one of the best teachers I have had to date. From start to finish, the class is a blast.
Very good teacher! He was always helpful and gave great feedback. I'm excited and glad to be taking him next semester for 1A.
Mr. Weser, without a shadow of a doubt, is one of the most intelligent men I have ever had the privilege to have as an instructor. He truly wants all of his students to succeed, and will work with you individually to ensure your success. I could not thank him enough for his guidance, he truly made me a better writer. I HIGHLY SUGGEST TAKING HIM!!!!
Mr. Weser is very helpful in helping students individually. If you do your work focus and ask for help, you will do well in his class. Since he has 100+ students every semester you will not get a response right away but you can always go to his office for help as well. On the other hand, if you miss 4 or more classes, you will not pass.
Do the work that is assigned, take advantage of his office hours, and always strive for that high grade. A wonderful teacher to have. You'll earn the grade that you deserve based on your overall performance in the class.
A lot of reading and writing. But Professor is fair and is willing to help students out. Open to late work, with re-writes, as long as the writing is improved.
this professor is without a doubt one of the best. You have to engage in class and want to learn but its fun and easy. A very wise and intelligent guy if you do what he asks and what is assigned you wont have a problem but dont skip more then 4 classes . Its also very apparent he cares about his students but you have to care as well.
You HAVE to talk to him one on one. This isn't a "I can be shy and leave really quickly and never talk to him" kind of class. If you talk to him and really care about getting an A it'll be the easiest A of your life. He might seem daunting in front of the class but he's a super understanding and nice individual if you just go and talk to him.
John cares a lot about his students, he gives lots of feedback on your papers, so just listen to what he says and change it to what he wants. You'll be fine. Also you MUST meet with him for sessions after class, if you follow this, you'll get the A
John was super helpful and really cared about me passing his class. Very open minded and I would recommend going to see him in his office hours because he acknowledges effort.
Weser's English 1A class was awesome- Everything was what you would hope for in a teacher. He is kind, understanding, and almost always will let you revise ANY essay- including your midterm essay. The only down side? HE DOESN'T PASS ANYTHING BACK! make sure you have copies of everything: notes, essays, questions, articles. Also doesn't email back..
Did not like this professor at all. He does not give you feed back on your papers and his directions are not clear. He does not reply to emails even though he says that that is the best way to get a hold of him.
If you aren't prepared to work for your grade, do not take this class. I highly recommend going to office hours as that will be where he will give you feedback on how to improve your essays. Difficult teacher but not impossible to pass his class. Just show up and don't be late.
John Weser's class was not something I ever found myself looking forward too. It was something that I found myself leaving frustrated and unhappy. Though he does push you as a writer, his methods are very dated and he takes out his inability to use tech on his students. Very poor feedback but more than accommodating for meetings outside class.
Weser is a kind person. He cares about the students. Revision is king in this class. He wants to see multiple drafts showing improvement. He wants to have students reach out to him either through email or at office hours. Nobody does this in the first few weeks. Stand out by reaching out very early and show you mean business about learning.
I was nervous about making the transition from high school to college and was fearful that my writing would not meet the standards, however with the guidance from Weser I was able to grow and succeed. He always made himself available to discuss my writing either in person or over email. Weser is very approachable and made asking for help easy.
I took Weser for 1A and loved his class. He is very caring and always able and willing to meet with you after class to help you improve your work. In one semester with him my writing improved dramatically as he worked with me to perfect my work. He gives many inspirational lectures and allows you to write about your passions. Amazing teacher.
