he's my favorite professor ever! i've had 4 classes with him. he's like your favorite uncle. retired naval captain, full of great stories, and knows everyone! acts like he's a hard grader, but in truth he's pretty fair.

I've taken ALL of his classes. He is the very best at Loyola...I even nominated him for a Sujack teacher-of-the-year award. I can't believe he didn't win...he is THAT good. He will push you to do your best!

I recommend taking as many of Williams' classes as possible. For anyone with any background in American Politics, the class should be no sweat.

Thought that he was very easy as long as you did the reading prior to the exam and had some knowledge of the material (current events). Thought that overall he graded fairly easily and I would be inclined to take him again.

Took it as a summer class; if he taught at my school I'd take every one of his classes. Interesting, fun, and knowledgeable. Pay any attention to him, and you'll do fine-worth the time to take his class

He is an interesting and cool guy. I have taken him several times and must admit that a lot depends on the texts you are using in class. It is up to you to do and understand the readings. If they are dry and boring, you will have a hard time.

Dr. Williams is a good professor. This class only has three exams, which could help or harm you. Exams are sort of rough, but if you keep up with the work it will be fine. He has a lot of experience to enhance his lectures, and he will make you laugh!

I got a minor in Williams at Loyola. Hands down, the best professor. I even nominated him for a Sujack, and was more than a little ticked off that he didn't win. He's amazing. Will work your butt off, but you'll be proud of your papers!

I loved the class, but that's only cuz he got off topic most of the time and just told stories, the tests were tricky, but it took me till the third try to realize most of the test questions are from the online practice questions.

Williams is cool as hell, but i don't think he's a good teacher. Everything he teaches in class is in the book or on web board. Class is boring, PP presentations are all on web board. Tests aren't bad, and overall I wouldn't necessarily reccomend him.

Williams is a great teacher. He has a ton of real life experience and he doesn't try to force political views on his students. Even though the tests can be tricky, he tells you what to study and posts all his lectures online so you can review them.

The guy is funny and that's the only good thing about him. Exams were extremely difficult. His notes on the www are just outlines and don't give much info. Teaches straight out the book and is pretty redundant with the same ideas. Avoid him!

Dr. Williams is a great prpfessor. He is funny and sarcastic (in a good way) and makes the class really enjoyable. His tests are based mostly on the book, so if you read and study you will do well. Don't expect an easy grade if you don't read the book. He's an awesome guy!

He's pretty arrogant, likes to brag a lot, tells the same stories over and over again. He either doesnt like to teach or is just lazy about it. Class is divided up in groups and all semester the groups present. He doesnt even teach the class.

Loves to discuss current events and politics in class, very knowledgeable. however, the problem: HE DOESN'T TEACH!!! constantly gets off subject, powerpoint notes are useless, you practically don't have to attend class, tests are hard and entierly based on the readings.

Total waste of my money. Its fun to go to, but I NEVER LEARN ANYTHING. All we do is get off subject and tell the same stories over and over again. Oh, and pray that when you take this class, you don't have any bleeding heart liberals, because Williams doesn't make them shut up.

Dr.Williams is both thoughtful in his class comments and obviously cares greatly about the overall experience and learning of his students. He is both a wonderful teacher and a true mentor.

Dr. Williams is quite possibly the best professor Loyola has to offer. His qualities run the gamut from intelligence to thoughtfullness, and it's hard not to want to take every course he teaches. His teaching will remove from anyone's mind the idea that "those who can't, teach."

Awesome teacher. I'm taking him again. Know the readings and you'll do great in his class. know definitions for the tests [3 exams] and study the practice quizzes on the website and you'll do fine in his class. Dr. Williams is one of my favorite professors here.

You do readings, he makes them REAL: ties solid experience, real world & humor to classrm; great use of papers/presenations he has made professionally (top-shelf!) I have taken Williams for practically everything! I adore the man. You gotta read though and if you add stuff from the lectures an A is yours! You don't realize you've learned something til u have to answer exam questions. Questions are general and best of all people in his classes tend to be mature

His class is a complete waste of time! There r 3 tests all of which u have to memorize the txtbook to get a good grade. 100 ques. scantron, so study hard. The teacher is on the conservative side & makes unnecessary comments in class. The notes in the class r not even worth taking. just go for part.

Great prof. Always willing to help a student. Militaries around the world beg this guy to speak so his class is definitly worth the time. If he has a flaw, it's that he recycles his jokes from class to class or semester to semester. Take all the classes you can with him.

Nice guy... but does not teach! Not clear at all... watch out! He won't give an A out to anyone and the grade you get at first is the one that stays with you... no chance of moving up. No way to know whats going on unless you know him personally and he LIKES you!

Dr. Williams is in the top three of all the professors I have had at Loyola. The exams can be tough, but they are very fair. During the lectures he breathes life into the readings, using anecdotes to make concepts more interesting and easier to understand. Take his classes and get to know him.

Williams has a problem staying on topic and rarely completes a chapter of powerpoint notes.However, I found in-class discussions delightful when he allowed his non-favorites to talk.You must read the book not the lectures to get a good grade!Hard to get A,but if you read diligently for the exam and prepare in advance for the paper,you can get it.

Williams is awesome! Being a fave does help. His lectures are not necessary, but it helps him know your face and name, which is good in his class. Paper advice:take an outline in ahead of time and he'll steer you in the perfect direction. Test advice:read everything and be able to explain principles and relate it to the world. Fun class! Fun prof!

Awesome, awesome and awesome! Did I say awesome? I loved Prof Williams. He is a navy vet, funny, and someone who actually is a moderate and won't judge your views. Completely engages you and makes you want to come to class. Take this course. Williams is one of the few reasons I chose not to transfer from Loyola. Take him! :)

Awesome professor. 90% of the class day is spent talking about current events, looking at funny clips/aricles/pictures, talking about whatnot. Actual politics part of the class is good, not fun 100 multiple choice tests, but study and you'll do ok.

Dr. Williams is hilarious. Class didn't drag on because he's funny. Current events connected to the readings we had to do, so it was a bit easier. He used a Morgenthau book which wasn't written as a textbook, so we had Bluebook tests, but they weren't too bad. Take him every opportunity you get. He's an awesome professor!

Professor Williams is a rare find. A great teacher that can pull you into the class. The tests where long but there were only three of them and they were multiple choice. As long as you do the readings and go to class, the going to class part is easy, you will do great. I will take him again any chance that I get

Class was required for major. Take him if you have to take a PLSC class. He's probably the easiest prof in that dept to take. Just make sure you pay attention in class and read the material. tests are multiple choice, you basically give yourself your grade.

Unlike PLSC 101 there is no multiple choice it is all essay tests. If you do not read you are screwed. But if you try you can get an A, not the easiest A earned

William's course was undoubtedly one of the hardest ones that I have ever taken at Loyola...and believe me that is saying a lot. The midterm and the final are all essay, and the final is cumulative over 12 chapters (each around 40 pages) of American foreign policy history. Tests are extremely abstract and require application of knowledge. Hard A-

Prof. Williams is a cool guy and the best part of the class is his unique perspective on foreign policy. He doesn't cover class material too much, but the book is boring anyway. I'd rather listen to his views and let others debate theirs. If you want someone to spoon feed you the info for tests he wont do it. Must earn your grade.

Great guy, one of best teachers I have ever had. uses his lifetime experience (military) and applies it in class, giving an unique and very interesting perspective on things. Make sure you get to know him on a personal basis, since he is a very unique guy and will always help you out. If you like to debate ideas, this is your class.

Prof Williams is a great teacher. He makes you think for yourself instead forcing you to think his way. These types of instructors are why we go to college. I found that his lectures complement the readings. Do the readings and start your paper early and you should throughly enjoy the class .

Dr. Williams is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is very passionate about the subject, keeps you laughing all class, and does not put his own political thoughts into lecture. I'd take him again in a heartbeat. He cares about the students grades, and to be honest you have to be an idiot not to do well in his class. Good textbook too.

Good guy. Likes to talk more about contemporary political issues than course material. Overall fun class. Exams ok if u are a good essay test taker: 2 essay exams, one 6-pg single spaced paper, one group project (powerpoint) on a military branch. not a blow-off class, although not too much work besides the paper. loves blackboard.

This was the only class I ever remember actually looking forward to attending. Prof Williams is an interesting, funny, intelligent person, and while we don't spend much time on the book information, you will definitely learn a lot from his vast knowledge and experience in the subject area.

Great teacher - only class I looked forward to this semseter! He always has a story to tell that makes everything seem even more interesting, there's always funny pictures or videos to watch, and he makes jokes left and right. People seem to complain about the tests, but all you have to do is memorize the vocab/basic concepts and you'll be fine.

Great class. I have him for 2.5 hours and he manages to keep it interesting and always has funny stories/pics. He definetely loves his students "Who loves you?" Will help out with grades but you have to work for it too. Study notes and powerpoints and you should do fine on the test! Tests are not long ... he changed it to mulitple choice this SEM

Dr. Williams is one of the best professors you will ever have a Loyola, if not THE best. The class is lots of fun and you will learn a lot. Read the book & keep up on current events. If you don't understand or need help on the research paper, ask him, he WILL help you! This is a class you will never want to miss.

I have taken Williams three times. This man is sweet, funny, intelligent and an experienced professor. It is obvious he loves what he does and that reflects in his teaching. He is not easy, but not too difficult. If you are moderately intelligent, read fairly regularly, show up to class a sensible amount and are not a complete jerk - you'll do fine

Professor Williams is one of the reasons I tell people to come to Loyola. He translates hard political concepts understandable points. He'll tell the same joke at least 3 times in a semester; just humor him. I've met no professor here more passionate about his work and about the students. You'd be crazy not to take him given the opportunity.

Professor is a good guy. Makes the subject matter understandable. Uses the curve system and outside of class, he is easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor. The final at the end of the semester is the hardest. If you study, you will do fine.

Prof Williams is a great guy. He explains his points clearly, his lectures are lively. He, as both a prof and a person, is very very easy to talk to. People, this class is NOT hard, and if you just show up and read the book and study, you'll do fine. People who give Dr. J a bad review because they d poorly shouldn't be in college, honestly.

Dr. J is a good guy. He knows his stuff for sure. Grading standards don't seem to be that bad. He tends to rant and tell the same or similar jokes throughout the semester, but it doesnt detract per se. Class isn't hard if you show up.

Dr. J is a nice guy and has lots of stories, but this leads to some problems. His lectures mainly consist of powerpoints with vague bullets, so reading is a must. He dosen't really talk about the material, more stories from his life. He picks favorites and if you don't know a lot about international politics beforehand you'll probably get lost.

pretty chill class. shows mad you tube videos. didn't need to read, I didn't even buy the book. He gives you all the notes so you never have to take them, you can just pay attention to what he says. Hes REALLY interesting as a person, has a really cool life. EXTREMELY smart guy! The text book he uses has a free online site, CRAM/STUDY THE VOCAB!!!

He is a brilliant man and loves to teach. His classes are always interesting and we discuss important current issues. All of the BS that people said before is simply whining from a bad grade. He can be a little politically incorrect at times and does tell some stories, but go to his class, get to know him, and you'll be glad you did.

LOVE this professor would take him again. Gives multiple choice tests (only at the 100 level not 300) which I LOVED because Im good at them. Has very cute grandkids. You need to read the book. I dont understand why people wouldnt.

Professor Williams offers an engaging and informative class. BEWARE the grouches about his class! They're just sore losers because they didn't take his advice! (And mine too, and here it comes.) The tests are very hard. There are 3 tests in total, 100 multiple choice. Many of the questions are about small details in the book that he didn't cover in class. There's also participation worth 10% of the grade. He neither tells you your participation grade nor your final exam grade. He doesn't post grades like most teachers. He's nice though.

Fantastic guy! You will learn a lot if you keep up with the readings. Has the most hilarious jokes and powerpoints. Papers are a bit cruel but nothing out of the usual for college material. They are single-spaced though which is a bit odd. Tests must be studied for rigorously or else you'll find yourself sitting in front of a blank paper @ the exam

TAKE HIM! He is very knowledgable and will help you in any way that he can. Class is VERY interesting. Not an "easy" A per se, but if you do the work, you'll be fine. He is an EXTREMELY reasonable grader. Six page single spaced paper, but come on...It's college, what do you expect! Take him or you are missing out on an expert in the field!

TAKE HIM! He is awesome! He can make everything you learned about US govt in high school and make it fun again. Casual class. 3 tests all scantron..kinda hard because theres more than one possible answer and we wants you to choose the best.

Dr. Williams is very enthusiastic toward his class and makes the class interesting. Two words: Power points. You will be take 3 exams throughout the semester, 100 multiple choice questions. No final and no other forms of hw, which means these exams count for a lot. Read the chapters, do the online work, and do the exam preps! Good class in all :)

Take him, he is a great teacher, you rarely cover the material in the book, but he talks about very interesting stuff, and he always has a great video or story, the tests are easy as long as you go on the book website and do the vocab, and if everyone does poorly on the test he has a generous curve

To tell the truth the class is not that easy, but that is only because he does not cover the book in class. Dr. Williams is phenomenal. Great discussions and very fun. Just make sure to read the book twice before the tests. Only 3 tests and they are not accumulative.

J.Williams is lively and humorous. While attendance is not really necessary, when you go to class it is always entertaining. Be warned, his 3 tests are very vocab based so you have to read the textbook, carefully. But the tests are spread apart and you have a lot of time in between to read. If you keep up with reading you will be fine. Take him!

Great guy! He's a real nice, funny guy, but he tends to talk about a lot of stuff not relating to the class. It's not a huge problem though because as long as you read the book and know your vocab, you can get an A no problem.

One of Loyola's finest professors For a large lecture class, Professors Williams brings an unexpected level of energy and interest to the room. Don't have to attend class. Most classes include content from his life only moderately related to the topic at hand. Participation grades based on BB responses are lame. 3 book-based test, drops lowest

Great teacher. Cares about his students, gets people participating (even at 9:20 in the morning) and always makes class interesting. Incredibly well-informed and knowledgeable about his subject, will almost always give an educated and clear answer to your question. The bad jokes only make him more endearing. Tests can be tricky, so start studying!

Really nice guy, is willing to help out all of his students. You can tell he really cares. Three tests, 100 multiple choice questions each, worth 90% of your grade. Test questions can be a little difficult, you MUST read the text.

Prof. Williams is a great guy. He is a very very intelligent guy, but expects the same of you. It takes a little effort to get through the book, and know current events, otherwise you'll be shamed. He's funny and doesn't seem to mind if you roll in late because he has "classroom amusements" to start class.

Classes lacked structure, but that made them more fun. I enjoyed the discussions we had and the class didn't focus on what Dr. William's opinion was. Midterm and final focused on what WE THOUGHT and using stuff we read to backup our thoughts. Paper was a lot of work, but it wasn't that bad. If I wasn't graduating I would take him again.

You have to know how Dr. Williams teaches to ace the course (also applicable to Plsc 101) 1. Attend every class. Everytime you miss class, although he doesn't say it, your grade will suffer. 2. we talk about current events for an hour then read from the book for 15 mins. For the exam, read read read and regurgitate everything you know.

Dr. Williams isn't that good of a teacher. Very little structure in the course and he's too harsh of a grader. So I don't know why he has a good rating... Maybe he used to be good? For people just registering, you prob need to take someone else for a good grade.

Prof. Williams is one of the best teachers at Loyola. He may not spend his classes going over the homework (that's why its called HOMEwork)Instead, his class discussions constantly require students to apply their knowledge to current events. True, this class is not an easy A. But the experience and insight are worth it.

Tests are to the point and there are no surprises. His stories are really interesting and enrich the course. Text book usage is rather minimal. Being up on current events and paying attention in class will make the tests easier. The research paper is not to bad if you start early. I would take him again.

Capt. Williams expects a lot from you. But he is not an unfair grader. He is clear with his instructions and what he expects from his students. If you do the reading and go to class, not only will you learn a lot but you will also do very well. The BEST Poli Sci professor I have had while at Loyola!

Great Professor! He expects you to write papers according to his guidelines which are very clear. Attendance isn't mandatory, but helps with the participation grade. Lots of Blackboard postings. The class is lively and interesting, but then again, how could Nat'l Security not be?? Will certainly try to take Prof. Williams again!

Awesome. That is all that can be said. Must work hard on your paper (of course, this should go without saying). He is one of a kind and tell's great stories. However, don't let his kind and jolly expression fool you he is not an easy grader, but an extremely fair one. Would take a class with him again if he would teach ones I haven't taken!

Dr. Williams is the best!! I have taken 3 classes with him and enjoyed them all! His class is discussion based. Midterm and final are essay formate in blue books and one term paper. Take him and you will be glad you did!

If you are looking to take notes and listen to lectures, not the right teacher. I had to rely on my own understanding of the readings to do well. Spends most of the class time telling his own stories and joking. Cut off for an A is 96. Getting an A is still possible, but students who like lecturing will not enjoy.

He clearly tells you the expections of the course,demands college level work. He does not give you anything, you have to work for it. If you're looking to just get by, you'll be a B. But you'll lose out on so much if you just "get by" He's an incredible teacher, you will want to take him again and again. Willing to teach if you're willing to learn.

Interesting professor, reading is a must, as the material is not covered in class, but the midterm and final are based off of theories from the books. That's not to say that classes are pointless, I learned a lot from the discussions in class. A bit unclear about what he wants in assignments, but grades with this in mind.

I had him for several courses, and its basically the same schtick. He tells jokes, and stories mostly. He is a nice guy, and probably enjoyable at a party, or an event, but a poor teacher. He touches on the material from the book, touches on related information not in the book. Poorly relays what he is looking for in the coursework.

It's a 300 level PLSC class, don't expect class to be a detailed overview of what you read...if this is what you want...don't take him. He's a great professor, willing to help in any way possible. Put in A level work, get an A grade. B Level work, get a B. You have to work for your grades, but it is well worth it. Will take again and again!

I can't say enough good things about Prof. Williams. On the contrary to many reviewers, I like that he leaves you to your own devices. This is college, not day care. I'd rather be told interesting stories for an hour than go through mundane power points. Pretty easy grader, not the easiest. Would definitely recommend to a PLSC major.

Dr. Williams is an amazing professor. If you are interested in the political science field or simply taking a class to fulfill your core, he is the way to go. You will learn many things from Dr. Williams and have a fun time doing it. He is always available to answer questions as well as give "old guy advice" if need be. Take Dr. Williams.

Dr. Williams is a great teacher! He applies the material to his own experiences. I enjoyed listening to him and was never bored! There are two written test, if you keep up with the material and follow the news, you'll do great. He's also approachable.

If you have a hard time paying attention in class, this is a good teacher because he shares a lot of personal stories so you won't have to be focused 100% of the time. Students are required to do a lot of work out of class, so if you don't want to listen, read in class. STAY ON TOP OF CURRENT EVENTS!

Loved this class. Probably the chillest professor I've ever had. Don't think I read more than 2 pages out of the textbook the whole year. Go to class, listen to lectures, take notes, post often on Sakai, and do well on the term paper and with that you're good to go for at least a B+. Take him and appreciate him! Loyola needs more teachers like him.

Most of the readings in his class I feel are opinionated, especially if you look at the author's of the class texts. His grading scale is easy and yet he is unclear of what he really wants. So you can get an okay to good grade, but getting a great grade is like jumping the broom.

If you're looking to be spoon-fed information; this course is not for you. Dr. Williams forces you to apply the concepts he's teaching to current and past events. His knowledge on the subject matter is vast & he's not some dry lecturer. I enjoyed going to his classes!

Reading are very important to the class. I feel the professor's energy is motivated by the students. If the students don't ask questions then he won't really add anything. Basically, he will help you if you want him to help you. this means writing your papers earlier and giving him drafts, reading and using the authors as references.

Professor Williams is fantastic. He tells a lot of stories in class but that's what makes class so interesting, and he co-authored one of the textbooks we used so he knew a lot about the subject, I knew nothing coming into the class about the military but I learned a lot, he's really helpful and genuinely cares about his students and this school.

Best and easiest professor @ Loyola, he will teach you a lot of life lessons but he does not really teach the books he prescribes. All in all , I have taken three courses with him, and I will always think back on it fondly.

Going to class is more like having tea with your grandpa. Every class is started with a funny cat video or funny military pictures. Lectures are long and getting the textbook is highly recommended. You'll have to work for your grade but as long as you pay attention you should be ok.

Williams is honestly one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. He is smart and witty and definitely know what he is talking about. He doesn't give many tests (we only had a midterm and a final) and we had 1 research paper so there isn't a large work load. Books are interesting. Would 100% recommend him to anyone that asks.
