Easy teacher. Kinda of wierd until you get to know him.

Really good teacher, funny too!

Take him! He is so funny and makes the class so interesting!
This guy is so tight!! its the only class i actually dont mind attending! laid back and has great stories that actually apply to what we are learning. take him!
He is so nice and it actually a cool class. He makes the class a lot of fun and he's willing to work with you
easier teacher for public speaking when compared to doc sawyer. you wont learn as much but its less scary. he's goofy and tries to be cool. overall nice guy tho
Great teacher. As long as you do the work and do okay on the essay exams, you'll be fine.
Nice guy.He truly cares about his students. He really tries to make his class interesting and pleasant.I thought this class was going to be horrible-turned out to be one the best that I have taken in the 2 years I have been at this school.Even though the days and time is horrible for my schedule-I am taking another class from him-he's worth it!
I aced his class. However, I don't like the racial jokes during class. I don't think being Jewish means you can make racial jokes. Its just not funny.
It was an ok class but the professor lost 6 of my homework assignments and then didn't believe me that I turned them in so my grade was a whole letter lower than what it was supposed to be which killed my GPA. Make sure to keep copies of what you turn in.
Ok teacher, but I don't think he is University material. He should be teaching High School at best.
His grades, in no way, reflect your knowledge of the information given in the class. This makes it difficult to predict what grade you will get.
One of the best teachers at CSUCI

This guy is awesome! Great teacher, very laid back person. Tells a lot of jokes and is very nice when he sees you around campus.
he is awesome

Only easy if you are willing to try new things. He is very funny and entertaining. You will enjoy him as a professor
funny guy but he tells the same stories over and over again.

fun class, good if you dont actually like public speaking. Only 4 in class speaches, and a few easy tests. But you learn a lot and its a lot of fun.
This class, although at times it is pretty boring, is exciting and we play charades, who could ask for more?!
Class is HUGE on participation. Test are hard if you don't know what to study. i found him to sometimes be a smart ass. some like his humor.. sometimes i found him rude.

Yudelson is confusing. He likes to let people think that he is a "chill", "easy going" guy, but he is not. Do not challenge him during his class or he will take note of it and it will affect your participation and your test score. His lectures are pretty easy tho, just answer his questions he asks. Tests are straight from the lecture.

Definately a good teacher. Opportunity to be creative in your presentations and much freedom to make mistakes and LEARN!
comes off as easy going, but he is not helpful to students and does not provide any clarification. he is an unfair and inconsistent grader, as he stated in class that he doesn't really have a grading criteria. i do not recommend this class or this professor.
Unhelpful inappropriate teacher. Makes comments about selecting grades based on paper weight & flipping a coin. Makes sexually harrassment-like comments repeatedly over the semester. Will not review papers before you turn them in. Has no grading scale (& admits it in class). Doesn't like to be challeneged. Textbook and lectures a waste (no tests).
Yudelson's got a great sense of humor and he's a smart guy. He was also VERY understanding when I had conflicts. He's a little unorganized sometimes as far as grading, but he grades fairly. Lots of extra credit opportunities and easy tests. You can gain a lot from this class if you take it seriously. It's hard to see why people wouldn't like him!
This is a university. You can't expect to write a high school level paper and get a decent grade. If you don't do well on a paper, he let's you rewrite. What more do you want? No tests, but several papers. Want to learn something? Read, study, listen, duh!! Nice, funny, easy going. Get to know him, he's a nice person!!
Ugh. Horrible sense of humor. Tries to seem cool by "remembering" stuff from when he was in college, but as he teaches like 5 sessions, you know he's BSing these 2-4 memories that "spontaniously" pop up each class. Read the book. Ignore him. Also, expect to have to teach a class with no prep, advice, etc. Pray you get a Ed major in your group.
This teacher is a "wild and crazy guy!" He is very passionate about this class. Be prepared to view lots of utube/ifilm videos as part of the lecture. HW consists of 3-5 page papers. Our class was accused of having "low participation" so we were forced to write an essay for the final. If you want an A... participate & get him to learn your name!
Yudelson makes the class fun. you dont just sit there and listen to him talk. he urges you to speak your mind and he pretty much lets you say whatever you want. the only thing negative that i have to say is that he plays the woe as me game. yudelson if you read this... you are a cool dude, be confident and proud!!!
funny, goofy kind of guy, that's really nice and helpful. Sometimes he doesn't know exactly what he assigned due when.
JY IS A JOKE!!! All the positive comments are bogus!!! He grades according to if he likes you or not, he hates to be challenged IN ANY WAY, wants class participation, but has poor comments when insight is offered ("Um, okay...") Everyone participated, but the average grade was only 19/25!? Plus, he treats students like they are in h.s. FIRE J.Y.!!!
Okay so I wouldn't recommend him- I think deep down hes nice, but he has a very sarcastic front and actually made me cry once. There is a lot of extra credit opportunity, and he did curve one of our tests. I agree that you should get him to know your grade, and speak up in class. Horribly unorganized so hold on to all your homeworks.
I hate this class! Seriously, turn off youtube and actually teach, you lazy dude! His grading system is bogus...No matter what, you get a bad grade on your paper, re-dos are inevitable (I am an A student, btw). He is so bi-polar. One minute he's nice to you and the next, he is mocking you in front of the entire class. "Revenge of the Nerds" much?
Unorganized, yet easy. He's really nice and a funny nerd! But alot of the students take advantage of him because he's so nice. Beware, if you want a challenge take someone else! If you want a kick back class, take Yudelson!
Ridiculously inconsistent and unfair. He needs to get off his high horse.
Seemed cool at first, but realized he has no idea what he was doing. The class was ridiculous, the assignments were useless, and he was rude the entire time. He seems to think it's the students who are fault, when really it is his fault for not making clear what he wants. He is unorganized and incompetent. He is vindictive and unprofessional.
I took him at CSUN but I know he is teaching at CSUCI.He is a nasty professor and I would never recommend him to anyone. I had to challenge my grade with the head of the department because he graded me unfairly. Luckily, I had proof that the final grade given was unfair. I WON and my grade was changed from a D- to a B. Beware of him!
He does not grade fairly. His class is extremely easy but beware because to get a good grade you must be on his good side. I recommend you avoid his classes. You won't really learn much about the subject he teaches and his stories are the same in every class. Good luck to you if you have to take one of his classes.
Arbitrary, unorganized, biased...the list is long and lamented. Avoid this guy if you can.
He is great. He tries hard and is passionate about the subject. Your the man JY.
I enjoyed his classes. I don't know why so many people don't.
Really not as bad as some say. He does not give tests, just one group project. You have two simple assignments due each week. They are fun and help get you extra points. He can be a bit sarcastic/mean. He was very organized in our class and was always willing to talk if you feel like you weren't graded fairly. He gave a lot of good job/careeradvice
GREAT PROFESSOR AND BETTER PERSON. VERY SMART.
He was a great teacher, if you do the weekly assignments and participate in class you will do OK. He allows you to choose how you want to be graded based on percentiles at which % you want hw, group project, and individual project to be graded...I would recommend him..."Like"
This class is pretty boring. It consists of Youtube and stats he pulls from the book and writes on the board. He's big on participation so go to class. good luck staying awake!
Nasty Professor! I do not recommend him. Beware, his grading system depends on if he likes you or not.
Honestly, he can be a nice guy but a real smart ass. He is very unorganized and forgetful. He doesn't give tests but his papers are tough. He doesn't give a lot of instruction on how to do them and when you ask him questions he gives sarcastic answers... I suggest avoiding him.
I absolutely hated his class. He's unorganized, sarcastic, and forgetful. He'll say one thing then expect another. Before his class I was interested in becoming a Communication major. After him, I don't want to take another Communication class again.
Yudleson is the man he can still get down.. it just takes him longer to get up. He's super chill
John is the type of professor that passes you based on if he likes you. He is very unorganized and he does not know what he said last class. He repeats stories alot and doesnt give much feedback about what he expects on the final. He grades the paper as if it was an english class. He is an interesting person but a poor professor. avoid him
I learned a lot from this class, the readings n assignments were very helpful. Hes a fair grader so long as youre a fair student. Many students go in there putting him down because of things they've heard. He doesn't deserve it. He is a great guy and easy to get along with. Some people try to slack off all semester then wonder why they failed.
Terrible, Sarcastic, Rude! If he doesn't like you, he will make it known! Dont expect him to give you details about the final either, except that he wants a quality paper with very little information to go off of. His final test was horrendous. He can be funny at times. Expect to stay the entire length of class.
This is a critical thinking course. Some seniors still lack ability to think critically and write properly, and expect step by step instruction. He cannot think for you or write your papers. He is very helpful at office hours. He does not take attendance, but tracks participation. The work is fairly easy as long as you put thought into it.
I took John 3 times and if you show up to class do your work and seem interested in all the topics you will do fine. Yes, he picks his favorites. I wasn't one of them, but I did everything he expected without argument. If you want to pass do not argue or give attitude. He will dislike you from that point on. Smile, show up, write notes, and study.
Witnessed Professor Yudelson acting very rude to other students. This type of behavior has no place at CI and should not be tolerated by Administration. When compared with other online Professors teaching the same subject, I found Professor teaching to be out of touch in recognizing today's cultural priorities regarding good public speaking.
JY is a cool dude. Unlike other classes he gives you so much more freedom in speech topics/presentations. 4 in class speeches, 1 out of class speech, 1 final exam. Makes a lot of jokes at his own expense. But warning… super unorganized! He even admits it! Major confusion as to when homework/speeches were due. Overall good class, very entertaining.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Worst one I have ever had. Do not take this class if you are a Comm major. He will be 10X harder on you than anyone else. EXTREMELY Sarcastic, rude and doesn't care. Makes due dates hard to understand. Even if you try your hardest he will still be a mean to you. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
Chauvinistic; notorious for failing students just BC they aren't his favorite. Heads Up: Being a studious/conscientious student does not guarantee his respect or favor. Assignments/grading can terribly subjective. Very forgetful, so if you must take his class, make sure you keep a stringent record of all your assignments/his feedback. Unorganized.
Lectures are moderately funny, but pretty boring. He tries hard to make it interesting, but repeats a lot of his stories. There are small papers due weekly, a midterm and final. The questions on the midterm weren't what we expected, so study the differences between the theories, and their concepts. You'll know how to study for the final after that.
He is a'ight. He is very clear when talking about theory and provides real-world examples. He is pretty funny and very nice. His homework is not difficult at all. There are two tests and they were pretty east too (because I did my homework and read my book and studied--what a concept). Plus, you get to watch When Harry Met Sally in class!
Yudelson a cool guy. But in order to pass his class just really know the theories when it comes to doing homework and your tests. his lectures are long and sometimes funny. He tries to not make it boring. Also, you get to watch a movie in there which Is Harry and Sally.
Professor Yudelson is a pretty funny guy. At first I struggled with the excessive homework (a two page paper a week) as he graded harshly, but you get the hang of it eventually. Lectures are eh, but you get to watch When Harry Meets Sally, which is a great movie correlated to the content. Sometimes he can be a bit blunt, but he means well (i think)
Changed the syllabus frequently. Started class with 15 homework assignments and no deadlines. Half way through semester changed due dates to 2 weeks after Spring Break. No tests, 1 final group project. Unclear about what he wanted. Doesn't explain things very well. Show up to class or you will get lost. GOOD LUCK.
Ugh, do not take him if you want to actually learn anything. He will not show examples or give out rubrics, he will not read your papers to give advice, and he will constantly change his mind on what he expects. Take Daniel Usera or Nien Chen instead. You will regret this class.
I had him last semester for Comm 200 and 205. I honestly don't understand how people like him. Not only is he rude and sarcastic, he isn't helpful at all. If you take this class expect to study and read so you can learn the material on your own. I thought the lectures would suffice but got a D on the midterm. Studied hard and got an A on the final.
Absolutely the WORST teacher I have EVER had. Does not tell you what he wants and if he does, he tells you something else that directly contradicts what he has just said. Had him for two classes. Get ready to hear uncomfortable personal stories and to hear the phrase "Have you ever" to start every other sentence. DO NOT TAKE HIM. DO NOT!
NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS. I had him for Comm 205 and 200. He grades subjectively and gives no rubric or guidelines. He is the worst teacher I've ever had. Our entire Comm 200 class failed both his midterms we only passed because he decided to grade on a curve. That is a poor reflection on him and not his students. TERRIBLE TEACHER VERY SAD
Amazing lectures. By far the best and most important class I have taken in college. Its real world business communication. YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS CLASS! ! ! ! You will learn so many real world problem solving strategies. This is the class you wish you could have taken in high school. All other negative reviews are bs.
The homeworks are easy, just write a lot and give at least a page example, only need to do ten homeworks to get full credit. Studied for the midterm and got an F, doesn't help you on the midterm or final at all. Learn the theories, study a lot otherwise you'll barely pass. A lot of independent work, he's useless at making tests.
Professor Yudelson is very lecture heavy but makes the lectures fun. For Comm 200, you get a homework assignment due at the end of every week and there are only two tests. If you do the homework and pay attention during lectures, you should be fine.
Currently in this class and loving it. Lectures are informative & entertaining and often hilarious. My friends and I haven't missed a class so far. The book is good and the chapters are short, quick to read and understand. Dr. Yudelson is more than fair about homework expectations, grading. Do the work/know the theories by heart to ace the midterm.
JY is the best. Amazing lectures is an understatement. I couldn't imagine trying to learn so many Comm theories with any other prof. Would definitely take him again.
I enjoyed this class. Readings were quick and easy, and lectures were both helpful and entertaining. Make sure you buy the book and read the chapters before class to get the most out of the lectures. Yudelson lets you order older versions of the textbook to save money. Be careful on the midterms. Multiple choice can be tricky, so know the theories.
Good professor but be sure to study for tests. He always makes jokes about rating him with the chili pepper, so here's to him.
Honestly, John is a super solid human being as well as a solid professor. He's funny and relatable and I enjoyed his class a lot. You definitely need the book to do well on the homeworks. He's always open and happy to talk to you about anything and he's a goofy guy who tries to make his course as enjoyable as possible. Highly recommend.
Had him for two classes now and I really cool Prof. Super down to earth and has goofy old man humor to him which makes the class funny. Homeworks have always been pretty straight forward, do them and you pass half the class. In both classes he has given extra credit options to make up homeworks aswell.
Prof. John is really cool. He's funny and uses a lot of self-deprecating humor to try to get the class to laugh. He recognizes that not everyone likes public speaking and tries to make it fun or more bearable for his students. I would definitely recommend him.
I was so scared to take a communications class because I am literally allergic to public speaking, but it was easy-going! There's 3 in class speeches and 1 out of class that you can do in another Professor's class. Everyone does review sheets on you too. The first 2 speeches are 6-8 minutes, and the third is 3-4 mins. No dressing up required!
Professor Yudelson is absolutely hilarious and I couldn't have imagined taking public speaking with a different professor. He makes you feel confident within yourself & comfortable to speak in front of everyone. Although the class itself was relatively easy, he does grade harshly. We also never ended up needing the textbook that he had us purchase.
Ive taken two classes with him now. Just buy the textbook, do your homework and youll pass!! He can be a bit sarcastic and confusing, but if you can get past that his class is so easy!! You dont even have to show up, you just have to do the work which is why getting the textbook is so important.
COMM 200 is a semi-easy class. I used the textbook and lecture notes for the homeworks and always got full credit. The midterm and final were a bit challenging. If you do all the homework, it'll save ur grade.
Honestly if someone says he's a bad professor then chances are they were lazy. I did my weekly paper & got full credit each time when I followed his instructions! Pay attention to the detail between the theories. Although the papers were easy, the midterm/final were hard. But study & read the book and you will be fine! He curves @ the end!
This professor is very immature for a grown man, he is rude and sarcastic and makes certain students feel dumb when they ask questions. He is malicious and favorites students, paying attention and listening wont earn your respect from Professor Y either. If you are shy, struggle with social anxiety, etc. he wont care, he just wont like you.
I took this professor for Strategic Communication and loved his class. There is a big project you have to do, as well as homework weekly. He helps out a lot though! has great feedback and good stories too
He's nice but he can definitely be rude for no reason. Homework due every week which can be draining. During his lectures, he tends to bring up personal stories and some of them are uncomfortable to hear that sometimes I wish I hadn't gone to class. Overall, if you do your homework and try hard to understand the material being covered you will pass
Took COMM-200 during the time of COVID and he was by far my most understanding professor. Kept up with office hours and extended due dates when it seemed students were struggling. Before classes were canceled we did have a HW assignment weekly, it's not so much hard as it is just a lot, especially if you wait (like I did). Textbook is great though!
READ THE TEXTBOOK. That is all :)
Professor Yudelson is amazing. He wants his students to really learn about the theories in communication and does this by using real-life examples when explaining the theories. He is hilarious and truly wants the bests for his students. Do your homework and make sure to show that you understand the topic with examples in your life.
nice gu but super hard class. The homework were always taking me hours to just get 1/3.. you can redo it but it still sucked lol. Im not going to lie i didn't know there was zoom until the last month of the semester. The paper in the end saved me in this class but be prepared for a very complex course with hard grading and few points to get.
This man is rude for no reason. He talks about communication but if you ask for clarification he will act like he has a boot up his ... and say you should have paid attention. He gave me a lecture about assignments that he gave no clear instruction in canvas. I passed but no prof should be this entitled
Professor is pleasant enough but lectures can be a drag. His grading criteria was unclear for homework assignments, which were lengthy and plucked directly from the textbook. Mostly had to teach yourself from the textbook as lectures barely covered homework material. Final paper must be well researched and detailed, approx. 12 pages long.
Professor JY tells funny stories from real life that serve as examples to illustrate a comm theory. Read the chapters in advance, go to lectures, do the assignments. It's not that hard to get an A in this class if you read & go to class: lectures relate to the chapters. Book is helpful. Homework = explain the theory, then tie it to an example IRL.
