Good teacher, hard but fair. Highly recommended for math majors/math lovers, as he does lots of theories/proofs and lots of rigorous stuff. Not recommended for people who are poor at math and/or don't have a *lot* of time to study.
He is the man in that department. He is the only professor that always prepared. His test are hard but he teaches well and he expects results.
If you need to learn math, take his classes. He tests hard, but teaches harder. Completely worth it. P.S. He's one crazy dude; get over it and go back to doing homework.
He is a master on the field. Dedicated, always prepared for the class. He follows the Syllabus on time. He teaches hard and resolve the hardest examples.Do the homework and you will be prepare for his tests. He always available on office hours or appoinments. fair when grading.
This man is a true mathematician in every way. Go to his class, do the homework, and you'll want to master the subject like him.
I had this professor way in the days and I think he is the best professor I have ever had. And I have had alot of them. The man knows the material and always is willing to help you. Becuase of him now I have a masters in Math.
good teacher in class, nice guy, but his tests are hard. ask him for help while you're in class, because he's not very helpful in his office hours
this guy is super nice, i didn't think his tests were hard at all -and he curves!! i've never had a math prof who curves. his class is however super boring he lectures the entire 1hr 45min-no brakes and lots of note taking!
This guy is so hot.... he is a MATHEMATICAL GENIUS !!! He is very clear and if you got a bad grade in the class its your fault!!! He knows his stuff and he has a sense of humor ... very nice guy !!!
He explains problems very well, his tests are a little tough, but nothing too hard... He'll always go over the hardest possible problems in class.
There is noone like him at this University. The man explains so well, if one fails is becuase he or she does not belong in a University setting. I would any class with him. Very helpful during office hours.
Awsome professor. You have to study though. His tests are usually easier than the problems he does in class, but you need to study. I did not even need the book for calculus 1. He is very clear and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Got an A!! I'll take him again for Calc 2 if I can. He is very clear and does not come up with weird problems in his exams. However if you don't study you'll fail, unless you have previous calculus experience. I had to study a lot but it paid off. Awsome professor.
He thinks he knows more than he really knows. He loves showing off what he teaches. No easy or clear in exams . He does not really goes to the point.
Great professor. He knows his stuff and is kind enough to start from scratch his explanations, meaning he will not assume you should know something already before taking this course. Brilliant and nice;Best math professor out there. Got an A ;) the course is difficult itself if you dont study or if math doesnt come easy for you! He'll help u.
This professor knows his stuff, i took him for Calc. I, and i passed with a B, however, i had to drop this course for calc. II, i just couldn't keep up, even with tutors. i highly reccommend him if your a math major, otherwise, stay away, lectures are mostly proofs and definitions, he lectures from beginning to end. Not an easy course.
I am currently taking his class and have gotten decent grades on the two tests. He only has two tests and a final. Make sure you do the homework assignments, even though he doesn't check them. He seems kinda weird but he's a nice guy. Make sure you know what you learned in Calc 1, it makes the class easier.
Calc 3 is challenging. He will explain it theorically, but you can always go to his office and he will explain with more examples. He gives old exams to study for upon request
Some people seem to like this guy for calc1, however im taking him for calc2 and hes horrible.his lessons are long boring and unmotivating but at least theyre clear.what really makes him bad are his tests.theyre irrationally long and difficult and he seems oblibious to the fact that only about 1/3 of the class is passing.Honestly im not exagerating
This professor is super hard. I took him for Sprin 07 and only 7 to 8 people pass the class out of 30 students. The problem with him is that you need a lo, a lot of time to review and you must must do all all homework. And still you never know what he would put on the exam. Good luck if you are going to take him, he is really hard.
Taken in spring 2007. I studied as if there is was no tomorrow. Our class had approximately 30 students only 4-6 student ended up with a passing grade. If you are a math major then maybe you can take your chances. His exams are unbelievable HARD.If you take him then HINT,HINT.(Expect your test questions will be the hardest ones in the chapters.)
I study a lot for this class, but he is a very hard professor, I went to his office a few times to ask for help, and he was always trying to help. But I will tell you this this professor is mayor in PHYSICS with a a Ph.D in Math, so be ready to work your butt off.
Took him for calc 2, if you're lazy then forget it. He does teach from beginning to end. Any book can teach theory but he does mostly examples which is good in my opinion. May get boring but overall great professor.
Don't you ever think in getting this guy. The only thing he does in class is theorems and proves. Don't you expect any examples problemas like the ones in the homework. It is not his style. Really bad professor!!!!
Very hard. Does not use the book at all. Don't take him even if you don't have any other options.
Great professor!
Just do't do it. He is actuallly a " nice" person, bu this does not translate to good professor! The guy is all over the place very hard tests, very confusing. Like someone else stated do not take even if there are no other options!!
This prof is a nice person & extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but he does'nt know how to translate it into a way that students can understand. Most of the class dropped out and the tests averages were 30-50%. No curves. Avoid if you can!! Sadly for me I ignored all the comments, despite my tutoring and hard studying I had to withdraw.
Don't take if you took Calc 1 in high school. There is a HUGE difference from high to school to this professor. Avoid if you don't have previous college classes.
He is a nice guy- in a mad scientist kind of way. His tests are hard but not impossible. If you like math and have an internal drive to study it yourself, then this class will test your self discipline.
His lectures are like listening to a lullaby. I went off to sleep.
Professor seems to tangent off on impossible problems, that cannot make sense...Knows what hes doing well, but is not specific...Gets pissed about stupid questions...
He is a great guy, kinda looks like Abraham Lincoln. But he's a very smart guy and goes through every thing in detail. So just take good notes and do all the h.w. he gives. So don't miss class , everything he teaches is on the exam.
very good proffesor, highly recommend him. Eventhough class is not mandatory, most of the exercises he gives on quizzes and exams are from class problems and h.w
Great professor. Gave 5 quizzes and 2 tests, all straightforward; class notes are detailed. Class examples can get really difficult but he doesn't put anything like it on the tests. He doesn't curve tests. His grading scale has a built in 5 pt curve though. The test questions come straight from the hw. Will tell you whats on the test. Recommended!
Best math professor i have taken at FIU!!!! He is super interested in what he is teaching and he is very clear explaining all the material. You have to study for his tests but the questions are straight from the homework and quizzes.
Might not pass the course but he's a great teacher. He knows what he's doing and will stop for questions. The tests are difficult but doable. If you're interested in learning the material well then highly recommended.
Horrible Professor... people like him should not teach. I've have passed all calc classes with A's and i might have to retake calc3. Tests are extremely hard, he does not explain well at all, instead of teaching he writes and writes on the board nonstop!! HORRIBLE!!
His teachings of our Linear Algebra class we're purely theoretical. Nobody learned anything from his lectures. We ALL used the book to understand anything and luckily I passed. His test are problems from the book which helps in his exams. He is a brilliant mathematician but we are far lower leveled than him to understand his higher level math.
great professr. desnt really use the boook much but is an expert in the subject. everyone who criticizes him is most likely due to the fact that they did not receive a good grade. to sum it up this class is not easy people. you have to put serious time into your studies and practice for hours if thats what it takes. thats your job not the professor
he loves math a little too much and will get exited into solving the same long problem for a whole class and a half. his test are fairly easy, but of course you must practice a problem or two for each section so you know how solve each kind of ODE. his final is cumulative but once again fairly easy.
I am the mathematician I am today because of this man. He is by far the best professor I have ever had. Some people do not appreciate quality, they prefer someone easy. Sad! they won't go too far in life.
Calculus 2 is not easy to begin with. Therefore, this class is very challenging! A lot of students fail his class. You have to set time apart and go during his office hours to help you out or get free tutoring in the green library. Your grade is based on 3 exams plus final. I'm passing the class with an A- because I actually like math and study.
Really nice, really helpful, incredible at math. His class is not easy and he may seem a little intimidating because of his overwhelming knowledge of mathematics, but he is very helpful in his office hours. Very patient guy and when he makes a joke (seldom) its hilarious always. Did some research and he has a Ph.D from Columbia University.
Don't take him, he the worst teacher by far at FIU, writes on the board like he is doing automatic writing, does not explain a single thing, yells at you if you are standing up or making to much noise. His exams are impossible to solve, do not expect to pass his class. Avoid like the plague.
Dr. Zweibel is a very nice teacher, extremely knowledgeable in math, but his exams are the most difficult things you'll ever experience in your whole life.No kidding, don't take him, he doesn't curve tests and I still haven't met someone who passed his class.
He lectures in theorems and math generalizations. I sat through lectures and never understood the material. He never uses examples. And the exams are serious. The exams never test on examples only proving theorems. You must be prepared, 25 hours per week of study!!! Take a minimum of precalc before this course! If you are not a math major then run!
Worst math professor at FIU. More than half of the class failed. He doesn't care to help out students to pass. 4 tests, all impossible and nothing like the homework. Don't take him even if he is the last option
be ready to write 12-13 pages per class he doesn't explain, he doesn't stop writing on board, no review for midterm, he expect you to study by yourself
Very bad professor you don't even know what to study for his test almost the all class is failing and he doesn't care very bad professor. If you want to drop a class this is your world.Dont teach and he think you know perfectly calculus1,2 and 3. He just write on board non stop like a machine doesn't explain a sheet, if you took it rest in peace
Differential Equations with Zweibel is fairly easy. I don't recommend actually attending class because of how poorly he teaches. There is a myriad of helpful websites for differential equations that are far better at teaching than his lectures. His first 3 exams are easy and straightforward, but his final exam was impossibly difficult.
Zweibel a professor for Math majors in my opinion. Did not follow syllabus. Did not curve. Does grade your exam within a week of taking it. Does not give study guides. Does not give extra credit or curve. Failed me by 5 points of a C. Now I must re-take this class. Final was 5 times as hard as any other exam. Thats what failed me.
Writes on the board nonstop the entire class. Never really explains how to solve problems, just covers the theories behind everything. No curve no review. This guy has no social skills and is a horrible excuse for a teacher. He might be smart but does not know how to teach. Passed Calc 1 and 2 with a b+ but failed this class
When they someone tells you he's a math professor for math majors they're not joking. I'm a Math major and am most likely getting an A (or high B) but it wasn't really because of him. Early on I realized that his method of teaching wasn't really for me (kind of put me to sleep) so I quickly just decided to read the textbook instead.
People comment that he's a professor for math majors. I would say in general, if you actually want to learn Calc 3, take his class. If you just want to pass, take someone else. I'm a math major and he was a great professor in truly teaching the course. People call him the "hardest" professor, but I think he just refuses to water down the course.
He's freaking awesome. Looks eccentric but truly knows his stuff and teaches well. I would definitely take him again. Plus his handwriting is like the neatest on the planet!
His quizzes were straightforward but nothing compared like to his tests You can ask him for previous tests so you have an idea of what type of questions he asks. Do ALL the homework he assigns also. Personally I dont think hes that great of a professor. He doesnt make much sense and just moves on assuming its all understood and no concrete examples
i took this professor and i studied very hard for his class, He is a really knowledge person, he knows his stuff and if you go to his office hours he will explain how to solve those problems. Honestly, you have to study for this class, DO YOUR HOMEWORK IN ADVANCED
He is such an intelligent guy and really knows his stuff! Take this class if you truly want to understand the material, but getting a good grade isn't that easy (meaning you can't just bs the whole semester). DO THE HOMEWORK! GO TO CLASS! Then you will pass!
Brilliant professor! He derives almost all of the formulas used and does many proofs. He grades very quickly, so you can expect to know your grade on a test/quiz within two days. The questions on his tests and quizzes generally come from the homework, so if you do it, you're ready. He is very helpful, so you can ask him any question.
The problem I found with this teacher is how much theory he writes every class. You won see him doing a any exercise at all, the class is just proofs and writing. I'm a math major and I can barely stand the class because of how boring it is. This might seem petty but I want more from a teacher that just the literal copies of theorems from the book
Honestly in my opinion he is the best professor at FIU for Calc 2 currently. I've taken the class 4 times now (I am a bad test taker with a learning disability) and with him was the first and only time I passed. He curved the class' final grade and he rewards dedicated students. Show up, Show interest, Study and you WILL pass
There is no Calc2 class where you can pass without doing the work. That being said, Zweibel gives you the best chance to pass, with a 60 being a C. Even though he goes too deep in the material, it helps you study for the tests. Usually, the last section before an exam has a big part in a test. A nice guy; show that you're ready by asking questions.
Explains clearly, but engages little with students making class boring
Three tests and a final exam. The process seems straightforward.. However, what is taught in the lecture is unfathomable. Take him only if you don't like to understand the math and going to lectures. The only way to get A/A- is to put in time in only doing the homework questions and you're good to go..
This is by far the most Ive ever struggled in any course. His lectures are very robotic as if he were saying and writing what the book says and NEVER takes time to explain why and how what hes teaching works. Have spent so much time and money with tutoring to try to pass but not working at all. Do yourself a favor and find someone else. Please.
To his credit, he's a nice guy. But he just does proofs all the time, and if you get lost once, you will never be able to catch up again. Classes were super boring, the equations on the board were too long to write down at his pace, and I could barely understand what he said. Trust me, I love math, but he is terrible at making it comprehensible.
His lectures are filled with a lot of theory and info. He recommends which problems to work on in each section. There are 3 tests, and one final. The tests are usually 4-5 questions. If you complete the problems he gives (which are a lot), you should be able to do fine on the exams. The final is cumulative and has a problem from each chapter.
I took Differential Equations with this professor and did well. I attended each and every lecture and copy each and every letter and number he wrote on the board. People complain about him, but I found on his tests the same problems from the homework and from the lectures. This professor has an amazing humor and knows extremely well the material.
Great professor, he really knows the material, although you will need to study on your own from the textbook. As long as you are able to do his homework problems, you will be fine. There are no curves or extra credit opportunities, but he is a very lenient grader. Take advantage of office hours, he will go over any problems you need help with.
His way of explaining is monotone, and sometimes it goest to in depth with proofs, but he does plenty of examples too. That being said, the key to succeed is doing the HW, Test are problems from HW.
MAA3200 in general is a tough class, very time consuming and requires so much reasoning, but he really knows the content and makes his expectations clear. Great lectures, but you need to read the book (and his notes) and all assigned hw, and all his quiz/exam questions are taken from there. Go to office hours, he will go over any of the exercises.
Well my major is Math, so I have loved every math course that I have taken, but definitely the professor plays a key role when it comes to succeed in a class, this summer I put all my effort on this class. His lectures are mostly useless and the tests are super hard. Be prepared to study like crazy to obtain a mediocre grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! If you miss at least one class, it'll be hard to catch up. Usually there's a short method to get to answers but when he's solving a problem, it will take a very long time to get to the answer and it can confuse everyone. If you take this professor, be sure to go to tutoring every week and pray you'll pass.
Professor Zweibel is really an exceptional professor, maybe the best in FIU's mathematics department and certainly one of the brightest and funniest. We used Walter Rudin's PMA in the course and covered Chs. 1 through 6 and about a third of Ch. 7.
Took this professor online due to COV19, horrible experience. The ONLY grades were exams. He clearly said in class that even if we do all the homework and extra practice from old exams we will NOT be fully PREPARED for our exams, by doing so we would only be 'okay' for the exams. We would not be prepared to get an A, we're being set up for failure!
Took online due to COVID. Prof admitted that hes making exams harder because were on quarantine. He also clearly stated that doing all the hw and past exam questions would still not be enough preparation to get an A, but that we should be able to just get by if we do everything. I expect rigor now, but this is borderline abusive.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! It will not be worth your time to study for this class and no matter what not be able to pass the exams because of how hard they are. The ONLY grades are exams. He does not understand that we are students and that we do not understand these materials like he does. Because we are on zoom he made the exams impossible!!
My advice, just do yourselves a favor and don't take him.
I got As in Calc 1-3, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. I got a D in this class. I literally studied nonstop for weeks and got an F on the exams. His exams are literally impossible. His exams are a level above the class. Horrible, horrible experience. Avoid him at all costs.
Great professor. He is a walking textbook. He is genuinely nice and will help you as much as he possibly can during office hours. Brilliant man. My favorite professor at FIU. Go to his office hours if you are struggling. Read the textbook and do the hw he assigns.
Don't get me wrong this guy is a freaking genius and a walking textbook, however his explanation skills is not up to par. He gives a lot of notes but it is difficult to go through it without clear explanations. The grade comprises of 3 tests and a final. Even though the tests are not that bad he grades it super harsh.
Professor Zweibel's linear algebra class appealed to me because he wrote everything out in mathematical statements. I may not have answered with the best proofs but at least he wrote out a logical mathematical process to every major concept taught. Would take again!
It's not easy! 3 exams + final. The only grades are the exams. In our class, he offered, for the first time, extra credit for hw. That helped. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. It was comfortable to ask questions. He was very helpful during office hours. Best way to prepare for exams is to study definitions and do the hw. Overall a gem!
Doesn't teach you what you need to know. Gives tons of homework. Doesn't go over corrections. If this is the first time you'll be exposed to proofs, this is NOT the professor for you. And I say this because this professor LOVES proofs but doesn't really teach them to you. On the bright side though he gave one hell of a curve.
Zweibel is the G.O.A.T. if you're series about learning analysis (or just math in general). That's it.
This was the hardest math class I have ever taken. The concepts are very complex and Zweibel tends to treat his students as if they already know much more than they actually do. He is insanely smart, though, and will reward students that he knows are trying.
His lectures are him talking to himself, not teaching. No homework or attendance grades. Grade is based on 3 exams and 9 quizzes, which are 10 mins timed every 1 or 2 weeks. Makes his own quizzes. Quizzes are worth 25%, exams are 21% each, final is 33%. Prepare to teach yourself by watching Professor Leaonard on YouTube and reading the textbook
Grades are based on just quizzes, Exams, and the final. Lectures are very long proofs that are difficult to follow; if you want to succeed, watch videos about the lecture beforehand. Very kind person, but the class itself is difficult to understand; YouTube videos will be your bestfriend, and practice using homework questions from the book..
Don't take this professor unless its your only option, he's very smart but he just doesn't really teach the coursework, you'll have to self study allot using the reading and even then the way he decides whether a response to a proof is valid or not seems willy nilly, overall not a good experience. Go for it if you want to struggle though.
His lectures are incomprehensible. You're going to have to learn everything on your own. Also, he basically only grades on exams, so you have to do very well on them. His exams are very difficult too. Don't take this class with him, unless you're willing to sacrifice your GPA.💀🫠
This is one of those classes that build character. If proofs don't come easily to you, you'll struggle tremendously, but if you persevere and make it to the finish line, you'll feel like you can tackle anything. If you value this confidence over your GPA, contrary to what people are saying, I recommend this class.
The low ratings are crazy to me lol. He literally explains everything thats on the quizes and exams. Lectures are boring, but its discrete math lol. You must take notes and do examples to pass. As long as you study this class is easy. The quizzes are legit one question and the exams/final were 5 and 6 questions, respectively. Do the work, you pass.
He knows the material so well that he is unable to effectively teach it to students who are just now learning these concepts. Discrete mathematics is difficult to comprehend at first, and a good professor should know how to help young students comprehend the material. Daily quizzes were a nightmare.
Dr. Zweibel is an unmatched genius and he is really passionate about what he is teaching. Do the homework problems that he assigns and trust me you won't see anything different on the exams and quizzes. He might not really be good at explaining things, but he values your effort to learn.
