Only had him for lab but he was great! Very helpful and clear.
also only had him for lab, but he is great, explains everything and whatever i didnt get in lecture he was great additional help, very friendly, easy grader on the labs! def helps ur grade out in chem. i def recommend him, overall great prof!!
I hate chem, but had to take it as a prereq. and prof brockman was awesome. tests are a lil hard but it makes the final alot easier. he's very nice and helpful and will help you out with chemistry as much as you need it. I recommend him. All of his extra credit q's are about the florida gators though, haha.
attendance is not mandatory, it won't effect your grade if you don't go to class; however, he does give short unannounced quizes so if you're not there for the quiz, you can't make it up and you get a zero. (even though at the end of the quarter he ends up dropping half of your quiz grades. haha)
He's very helpful. He gives a quiz about every week, but if you attend class he'll explain everything. Extremely helpful in lab, and explains the homework if you don't understand something. Great professor!
Really nice guy but make sure you read the chapters because just going by his notes won't make you fully understand everything. Always willing to stick around after class to answer any questions. He does give a lot of random quizzes but they were only 10% of ur grade. Gives u 4 test that aren't that bad...final was easier than all of them.
I went into this class not knowing what to exspect. Hes a NICE guy but thinks that everyone has this knowledge of chemistry and when you dont he just doesnt understand why. no review no review sheet and if there was it would be alot easier to study because each tests has all material covered to that day. finishes chapters class before test.
i dont know how everyone says hes a great teacher. his slide show notes are useless to me and everyone is failing. doesnt like to answer questions he tells you to meet him after class and ask. only has a half hour of office hours. doesnt drop any tests. tests are commulative. no reveiw sheets. you have to memorize evrything and pray for the best.
I hated Chemistry before I walked into his class. He made it interesting and was willing to help if you had any questions. I took it over the summer and it was crunch time but I thought he explained things very well. You can tell that he just graduated himself (a little snooty)!
Chemistry is HARD! Dr. Brockman explains this difficult subject as best as possible. As long as you read the chapters you will be fine. everything is right out of the book. He grades fair.
Very nice man, always professional.ALOT of info to be covered in such a small amount of time. More emphasis should be placed on classroom lecture time than the lab time. Felt mostly self taught for lab. Thats not his fault.Exams too hard but he is more than fair at grading them.I liked his approach. He is cool but naturally defensive.Reccommend!
Chemistry is a very hard subject. I higly Recommend Prof. Brockman. He is a great teacher on the subject. Of course he can't make you study on your own. There is lots of algebra. Be willing and able to put 10 hours a week to studying. He teaches what will be on his exams. It's up to you to understand, you must read all chapters. Do HW.
This is one of the nicest professors you can get, hands down. If you are taking second-semester chemistry (134), beware, you have to work a lot to stay ahead of the curve and he moves quickly. I've talked to a lot of people and it seems everyone blames their prof for chem 2 at first, then realize they weren't working enough. chin is also good.
Brockman is AWESOME! Chemistry isn't easy but he helps as much as possible. I went to office hours 4 times a week and he is willing to help until you understand. He will not hand you your grade, you have to put in A LOT of work. His tests are easy when you study both his notes and textbook chapters. He is an awesome prof. Loved him! I got a B
This class is tough. It will kick your butt. Be prepared to study 10-20 hours a week. But this teacher takes so much time to help you understand the material. Do the homework! The homework is a cake walk compared to the tests. The best chem teacher I ever had! Use your text!
This class is HARD! Plan on studying at least 20 hours a week. His tests are very challenging. He is VERY helpful. I am a good student, even with all my studying and going for extra help often - I struggled!!! This class is a killer. Although I liked Dr. Brockman a lot.I thought he made his tests extra hard and he flies thru lecture. STRESSFUL !
I was very nervous about going to chemistry, but I receieved a B. He was very helpful and if you do the homeworks and the problems in the back of each chapter, it is very helpful in learning the material. I achieved a B with a newborn baby at home and thats not easy but his way of explaining chemistry was very helpful. Take this professor
this is not an esay course, but he is there to make it easier for you, he is patient, answers all your question and makes sure you understand. his test are hard, howeve, he offers so much help... if you work hard, you can get a B
his tests are tough. he's an unreliable professor.
I was absolutely dreading chemistry prior to this class. It was a tough one especially the tests. His notes are directly from the text. Professor Brockman is straight forward, but he will always answer your question. Do the homework on wiley- it will help you the most!! not necessary to read chapters in their enitrety. lots of study time though
He's a good professor but his tests are so hard, he tells you in the beginning of the semester that the amount of study time per week should be equal to the number of hours in class including lab per week. I got over stressed and had to drop out but just study and you'll be fine, he will always help you and has alot of office hours.
Professor Brockman is a really good teacher, but if you struggle in chemistry I would not recommend taking him. His tests are extremely hard, and I felt as he expected us to just understand the material as soon as he lectured. He will be there to explain things though. Be prepared to study for hours and hours.
He is a good teacher but you MUST study or you won't do well. I was fearful of CHEM but I got a C+ because he was a good teacher. His test are hard but passable if you study. Our class started out with 72 students and ended with 40. Take this class seriously. He is a bit on the arrogant side but you can deal with it. Good luck. YOU CAN DO IT.
Good teacher. He needs better hand writing and darker chalk. This class is HARD but passable if you study at least 2 hours per day. Getting outside tutoring helped me pass. His test are hard but passable if u study. He is a bit cocky but over all a good teacher. Plus he's American with no accent which is a HUGE PLUS. Good luck but Study hard.
I hated chemistry however, professor Brockman was very helpful. Be prepared to study, and study hard. Ididnt do great but I passed, so he is fair. His tests are hard, but if you show up for class, do ALL your H.W., show up for all labs and laugh at his jokes.....youll do fine!!!
His class is hard to understand and the exams are extremely hard. I took another two chemistry with another professor and got A for both. I don't like his class. maybe it's summer.
great teacher, really wants to help you and make sure you understand the material.. offers extra help everyweek! its like any other class.. you need to study! alot of memorizing!! all homework is online. Tests are a little difficult! if you reread the notes and memorize what he tells you too you'll do fine!! loved going to his class
The best
Have him for Lab, best teacher ever. Even helps us with our class work. take him (:
He is the warmest, cleverest, modest and most helpful Professor. SCCC is lucky to have him...
Everyone who likes this guy obviously only had him for chem 100 which is a joke of a class. When you take real college chemistry do not take this guy. I understand chem is a lot of work by yourself with little help but this guy is useless. He tries to joke around and be your friend but hes rly not there to help hes only there for the money
He's an okay guy knows his chemistry but can't teach it he even said he doesn't have an education degree just chem so his tests are hard and tricky especially for a general chem class...
This guy, this guy right here is extremely hard, he gives one of the most hardest test on campus. ___Waring Do Not Expect An A+___ because he is not easy at all.
I love this man, but his test are extremely hard and his class stressed me out. I think he really knows his stuff, and hes really into chemistry, but he is way too smart for his own good. He gives the hardest tests and doesnt curve or give extra credits. Stay away from this class with Brockman
If You my fellow students out there want a challenging grade do so by taking this course with this professor. And i mean the chem 134 not chem 100.. he is said to be great in both but i tell you now you need to do allllll the homework and alll the labs (95' and up) and 70's and up to get a passing grade... he is a nice guy, try office hours
Awesome guy but this class is terribly hard!!!!!! No chances for extra credit, WHATSOEVER!
this man was very nice and all, but admitted to the class that he never took an education course in college. he didnt know how to teach the class, and gave "cheat sheets" the day before a test and nothing would be on them.. wasnt helpful and would smirk when a question was asked. would not take his course...
yoooooo whats good people of suffolk looking to take brockman.listein up, if you want a A you gota study alot, If you got a full time job you either gotta be really smart or you just are not going to be able to juggle both of those. Soo yea real talk, get to know B ROCK and camp out his office
Chem is hard , but if you show that you care about passing he'll help you during his office hrs or after class. He's a nice guy but the class is hard. Good luck & study hard
Professor Brockman is a great teacher. He is always there to help you. Chem 134 is very hard coarse but taking it with this professor will not only give you a challenge for a grade but also enhance your knoledge on chemistry incredibly. I recomend this teacher.
Shame on whoever had anything bad to say about professor Brockman. He is there to help and teach us what we need. It's our job to absorb it. He's a GREAT teacher And thats keeping it real! 5-8-13
This professor was very helpful if you were willing to learn and take the extra step. This course was hard but he took his time and explained things.
Great professor & really helps you understand CHE but requires A LOT of work & I mean A LOT! I dropped the Summer Session bc I work full time & couldn't handle the workload. Strict on attendance(you can't afford to miss them or youll be lost),participate(he'll call randomly if you don't), practice questions, textbook questions/reading & online h.w.
This class was not easy but if you apply yourself and act like you care and show up to class, he will help you as much as you can. He comes off as a hard ass at first but he is really not and is actually very kind. If you want to pass ANY chem class and you aren't a natural at it, you're going to have to practice at home,he explains this from day 1
He is one of the best professors I ever had. He really cares about you n he helps you a lot. He can be very strict but he is also very nice and will notice your effort and dedication. You don't have to be the best in class as long as you show you are really interested he will help you. Take his class you wont regret it.
Do not take Dr. Brockman. His test, online homework, and labs are very difficult. I struggled and got a D. Also don't be fooled by the good comments. Those are from the CHE 100 class which is a joke. Those fools haven't seen his CHE 134 test!!! He shouldn't be a teacher. Shame on you Dr. Brockman
Chem 134 is a hard class! You have to put in alot of time! Brockman is an asset to suffolk!! go to extra help he gives a lot of his own free time..His tests are horrible but he is preparing you for the ACS final which is awful but I am so very glad I had the opportunity to take such a brilliant, lovely teacher to make the class bearable! Work hard!
His tests were very hard. Was not expecting that level of difficulty based from his lectures. He couldn't understand why the class did horrible, but I think it speaks for itself when a WHOLE class does miserably. Nice guy though, willing to help if you go to office hours more so than in class. He was generous when grading labs.
Everything you need to know he teaches. Yes his tests are hard, so study. Do your Homework it helps with extra points. Chemistry is hard, but having a great professor like Brockman makes it just a little bit easier. Nice man with a good sense of humor. He made Chemistry fun. Highly recommended:)
show up to class pay attention do a lot of practice questions online and don't leave it till the last minute to study. great guy and a great teacher
He's a really great guy, very intelligent, funny, very helpful if you visit him during office hours
Funny, sarcastic guy. Not very helpful if you go office hours or approach during lab, unless you are on his good side. Covers most of what you need for his tests in lecture, sometimes ran late or never covered all material. Labs are not difficult, sit with someone who has a clue. 3 points of extra credit if you complete the HW before each test.
Great teacher of what I thought was going to be an impossible class. He made it understandable. Do the work and you'll learn a ton.
Professor Brockman is a great teacher and is always willing to help during office hours. The material can sometimes get difficult so its important to stay on top of your reading and always ask questions when you don't understand something. You can tell he cares about the success of his students and is really approachable and funny.
Had him for lab, he's a sarcastic, no-nonsense kinda guy. Answers your question with a question, but it'll make you figure it out. Just work hard, complete all the labs, and put in the effort and he's cool. My classes' biggest challenge was our lecture professor was horrible, so we were never in sync with what we should know going into each lab.
Had him for lab as well as lecture , he's a REALLY sarcastic and always answers your question with a question, but it really helps you think and I always would figure it out on my own. Studying, extra help and doing the homework will actually make his lectures more enjoyable. He does pick favorites, so make sure you're one of them!
Professor Brockman is the man! His tests are difficult compared to labs, but if you study you should be fine. Do the homework before each test because you will get 3pts on your test. You really have to study for this class do not take it lightly.
I got an A in his class but he made it a lot more difficult than it had to be. his lectures are not in depth I ended up teaching myself for the homework which took hours. if you ask him a question he will answer sarcastically with another question and embarrasses people who don't understand. He's very smart but couldn't care less about his students
if you were to ask a question he just replies with a question. he can be funny at times but its not so funny when he doesn't help or explain fully what hes teaching. he expects you to know chem. i think he has things going on at home but it doesn't matter. tests are a big part of your grade so if you fail them your failing the class
I had him just for lab. Although I got A's, that was done on my own. When I ask a question, I preferably like a straight answer so I can understand and continue with my work. He asks me the same question I asked him as if I asked it for no reason. I don't like sarcasm when I'm trying to get work done. He is okay. Very condescending.
Professor Brockeman is a very intelligent man. But he's very intimidating. His test are very difficult. His lectures were long and I didn't quite understand. I went to his office hours and there he would explain a little bit more but you would have to come up with questions before he would even help you. He's a very tough grader.
A couple weeks in and I feel more lost, then when I started. Can't understand what he's talking about half the time and answers questions with questions. If you have a hard time with science DO NOT take his class. Strongly considering dropping because I see no light at the end of the tunnel with him
Professor Brockman is the man! chem is a very tough class to begin with but he is very straight forward with everything he expects from you. His tests were difficult but if you study you will do fine. he can be sarcastic sometimes but its all in a joking matter he's a very nice guy! If you need help you just need to ask for it!
I'll admit, he's actually a funny dude. But sarcasm only gets you so far. Coming from a student with a 3.5 GPA, taking this man was an utter complete disaster... Please stay away. Tests are designed to make his students fail it would seem. Hard grader as well. Was forced to withdraw before any damage was done to my GPA
I'm very disappointed I took him. I needed this class as a pre-requisite to get into a program. I didn't get in because of the grade he gave me. He's frustrating to talk to and if you have a question, he just answers it with another question. His tests are very hard, you will need to study every day. Type of teacher that wants to see you fail.
He's a brilliant man. I don't like his sarcasm, is not funny at all to humiliate your students. He gives the basics of what you need to know but his exams are very hard. Unless your super smart you will pass with him.
Lets be real here... Do you want to fail? Unless your taking Basic easy chemistry ( Che101 ) which any student should know. Chemistry 1 and 2 should be a NOOOO GOO FOR HIM. Unless you love chemistry and don't mind studying 10 hours a day and grasp the concept. IF YOU ARE NOT THAT STUDENT DONT TAKE HIM. Save your time and money ( P.S. GO TO CLASS )
Great teacher
Nice man
I have a 4.0 GPA and this is my third semester at suffolk. This class is going to ruin it because this guy doesn't teach. He even says, "The test is going to be on chs 1,2, and 3, even if i didn't cover it in class." He is rude and condescending. Tests are worth a whopping 60% of your grade and tests are made to make you fail. STAY AWAY.
I'm am very disappointed. I consider myself to be a B sometimes A student. I revived a D+ in this class and now I have to retake it. Prof Brockman is a very smart guy but he makes getting anything above a C impossible. He's very sarcastic to the point when you can't tell if he is joking or not. Don't take him period.
Read the chapters. Pay attention and participate in class. He doesn't try to trick to on test. What ever he covers in class will most likely be on his tests. Very helpful and accessible outside of class.
Dr. Brockman is very direct with expectations, no nonsense. He has a sarcastic sense of humor . DO THE HOMEWORK it is A MUST for the tests. DO THE READING BEFORE CLASS. He is a tough grader but tells you from day 1. Everything is scheduled in syllabus. Don't miss class or tests. "You EARN your grade, he doesn't GIVE you your grade."
Cool guy, makes everyone answer a question once in semester so he will know your name, but he flat out says he makes "the hardest tests" and isnt kidding. He also requires lab reports for every lab. He reviews plenty and is quick with emails. Loves his Gators. Encourages socializing in labs, but a tough grader none the less. Id have a beer with him
Amazing professor even though attendance is not mandatory but if you skip class you wont pass. Tests are hard but they are the good practice for the final which is going to be ACS exam. He also gives extra credit to boost up the grade.
Im very glad I took Professor Brockman. Chemistry is not my favorite subject but he made the class very understandable. He gives as much points as he can on exams and is generous when it comes to grading. I would definitely take him again
I have mixed opinions of this professor. Hes straight forward with whats expected of students, also has the ability to explain subject in an understandable way. He answers a question with a question but because wants you to think about the problem and try and solve it. He calls on students which I dont care for, and can be extremely condescendin
He calls on students, I don't like being put on the spot. I wasn't intimidated by him I know there were other students who did not find him approachable. Once I was one of the last ones to finish up in lab. I wanted to do-over an experiment which would have taken me ten minutes but the adjunct Prof. decided to clean up 25 min early. Not right.
I absolutely loved this class. Professor Brockman makes Chemisty interesting and we always had fun. He makes people go up to the board and gives everyone a chance to answer questions. I wish he taught higher levels of Chem because Id take him again without a doubt. Highly recommend but be prepared to do some work.
Smart and funny guy but makes you work for your grade! He doesn't write the final so he has to prepare you as good as he can, by giving relatively hard tests. He does not try to trick you, just do the homework and study! Very approachable and tries to explain the stuff as much as he can. One of my favorite prof's so far :) Go to his office hours!
Great guy but really hard class. Even if you study & comprehend the material, his tests are so specific & he grades so tough that grade will still be low. On the flip side, he's funny & class is entertaining. Basically if you really "get" chemistry then take him (hes funny!) but if you actually need to learn chem, run!!
He takes away valuable resources that could otherwise be used to study. The lab sessions are incredibly strict. If you ask for help he will tell you reread the chapter or go for tutoring but will rarely help you himself. He will include information on tests that were never covered in class and will encourage you to drop his class if you struggle.
Truly cares about his students, he will spend an entire class period going over a problem with you if you ask. Makes an effort to connect with you as a person instead of just seeing you as another student ID. Calls on every person during class to make sure everyone understands the subject. Quizzes and homework every week. He's one of the best.
Worst professor ever doesnt give extra credit, not willing to help you, seems like a good person but he is a horrible professor makes the class harder then it needs to be
-Too many quizzes but it helps with the exams -Lots of homework online but its easy to do -Professor is easy to talk too he is very nice - 3 exams The only thing I didn't like was I wish he would just teach the class and stop picking on us I don't know why he cared so much about us talking in class. He also doesn't drop the lowest grade.
I actually learned something in this class .
The way he teaches is good in the sense that he knows what he is teaching and is well spoken. His tests are hard and he offers NO REVIEW. He tells you to go to his office hours and forgets that many of us work and have other responsibilities during. He encourages dropping and pops an attitude if certain questions are asked or if we don't understand
Professor Brockman is great. Understand that he is not there to baby you he is there to teach def helps. Go to class, ask questions, and participate. There is no extra credit but do the homework, study, and do well on your lab reports to do well. Highly recommend!
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE NOT STRONG IN SCIENCE. he does not give review, lots of homework, no extra credit, difficult tests, makes you feel like you dont know anything. had a very hard time passing with a decent grade. would not recommend unfortunately.
I dont know if its because were online but this is one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. Skips lessons and makes us learn on our own. Once said I dont particularly like this chapter so try not to ask questions. I have never had more mental breakdowns taking a class than this one. Is flexible with giving you extended time if you ask.
Took him for College Chem 133. Definitely one of the toughest classes I had to take. Tests and quizzes are very tough, so much studying is needed, hw and practice questions helped. His lectures were okay, great though because he'll go through questions that'll help understand material.
Whoever wrote hes not going to hold your hand really meant HE IS NOT GOING TO TEACH YOU ANYTHING and you have to teach yourself. He uses slides straight from the textbook company, instead of actually teaching us how to solve problems. I could read the slides in the book myself, it requires ZERO EFFORT ON HIS PART. So hes the lazy one.
Professor Brockman is the worst professor I ever had. His tests are way too hard and won't help you out with anything. He picks on everyone in the class and makes sure each student comes in front of the class and teaches a topic. Do your mental health a favor and PLS DON'T TAKE HIM.
Do your mental health a favor DO NOT take his class. The amount of mental breakdowns I've had because of this class was ridiculous. He picks on every single student to answer questions, and brings each one up to the front to solve questions. He makes you feel stupid. Quizzes and Exams are HARD.
He went through multiple example problems every class. He did call on students at random, but I felt it kept me on my toes. Studying is necessary, chemistry is a difficult subject - don't expect it to come easily. He was a great help to me during his office hours. You have to be comfortable enough to ask questions. Absolutely adored him.
Hes decent at teaching, but lacks a lot of initiative. He will only answer the questions you ask. Hes lazy with explanations and the math of exercises, and hell shamelessly let you know. Your actual professors are the textbook, the PowerPoints, and the example problems. In one word: Mediocre. DO LOTS OF EXAMPLE PROBLEMS BEFORE THE TESTS!!
Steer clear of this Professor, way to much is expected between homework and memorizing ALL formulas for tests. Save yourself and dont take this class. Will tell you about a test 2 days before with no warning.
Professor Brockman is an amazing chemistry teacher. He makes sure every student understands the material and teaches very articulately. He gets every student involved and makes class an interactive experience, highly recommend him for students who are new to chemistry.
Professor Brockman is a great person and will make time to help you if you ask, but you MUST take initiative to ask questions else he assumes you understand. Quizzes are online/open note but tests are very hard. He will call on you in class which I liked, but you NEED to do homework and read the book to pass this class. Labs are straightforward.
Great professor, get ready to answer the questions he asks in class because he makes sure to ask every single person in the room different questions, very difficult class and very math heavy. If you want to do good, use the textbook.
He is an awsome guy, will love to talk about anything and help you whenever needed. The class is a difficult course though and he makes you indeed work for your grade. Though I am glad to have him he is very easy to understand and lectures are helpful and 90% of what you learn, you will need to read the texbook on your own though.
For a very hard class especially one I was not ready for, he did excellent teaching. He gives quizzes that give you three tries and homework every week or two that all boost your grade. The labs are pretty simple if you follow through. The only thing is the tests are pretty hard, but he lets you bring an index card with equations, so it is fair.
Very tough grader. Homework is due after tests (about a week) but you should do it before because he'll skip content that will randomly show up on the test. Participation is also encouraged otherwise he'll get weirdly passive aggressive. In his own words most of his classes had a 50 average as well. My class was also very behind and skipped a lot.
do not take him!!!!
Take this class if you want to fail and question life. we have never taken nites once in this class and all the exams are from the "notes". For the final exam he told us we didn't learn half of the material on exam and his excuse is its college. He admits to the class that he's aware he's a horrible teacher.
