Best class I ever took
Had a ton of fun in this interesting class
The absolute BEST teacher on campus! Don't miss. Very funny and fun environment!
Awesome class!! I wish I hadn't been forced to drop it (schedule conflicts). Fascinating to listen to, makes everything interesting. Very witty. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great teacher! He has a way of explaining things visually that makes it easier to understand! He is laid back but, in a sense that you are learning as much as you would be learning with a stricked teacher.
The course was hard but he's super funny!
This class changed my life. I cheated myself by taking it over the summer. Take him for philosophy.
Johnny Terry was such a great Professor! Made the class and information interesting and easy to learn
Great at relaying information so that we will remember it.
Funny Teacher. Very clear w/ assignments, and what will be on the test. Gives study questions for review on exams. Most of the materials covered were interesting so the class really go into the discussions. Not just the teacher lecturing the class. FUN!!
Amazing class!Amazing professor!Very interesting and entertaining.Teaching style invokes passion in the students. Will get you to really think about yourself and your beliefs and views.Johnnie offers the best of what tuition money can buy. Take this class!
Johnnie is the man!! His tests can be difficult, but they really make you think about the subject matter. He really changed my life and made me see and appreciate philosophy in a way I never had before. One of the best instructors at SC!
Wow,great class and instruction! Will make you feel every emotion you are capable of and have you looking at the world in a different light.Highly controversial topics discussed in detail from many aspects, leading to better understanding. Don't miss out!
Second class again with this guy! He is one of the best teachers on campus. If your a visual learner you will do very well in his classes. He seems to be very in touch with his students. I really like how he knows everyone by there name.
Mr.Terry is supper cute and super fun! i want to flunk just so that i can take his course again!
he's great
johnnie is one of the best professors on campus. class is funny and entertaining but serious at the same time. tests are lengthy and pretty difficult. great class!!!
Great teacher. Gives all sides of theories without bias. Class was always interesting- learned many new things. Don't procrastinate w/ the assignments.
Best teacher I have ever had! Very funny teacher. He kept me entertained every class period, despite the boring subject matter. This is the only class I have ever looked forward to going to.
I went on to major in philosophy after his class...
Funny kinda and interesting, makes you think. Tests are relativly difficult and there is lots of reading. Also he thinks he is pretty hot, his hair was better last year than it was this year.
Very good teacher. Does reference himself as hot but it's hilarious when he does. His hair was definitely better before with his Barbara Streisand highlights.
Best teacher on campus. I think the tests are easy if you just pay attention to the material, and how could you not when Johnnie's teaching? Great teacher.
Great Teacher! He is fair and doesn't throw ticket questions your way on the tests. He presents information in a clear way and is more than happy to further discuss anything that is hazy. Fantastic.
really cool, easy, fun, he is a really funny teacher, and its fun arguin in his class, and comes up with great examples... i love goin to his class
Johnnie is a blessing to the profession of teaching, he is knowledgeable and thorough. It is an experience I would never trade. I wish every course I took came with his enthusiasm and skill. You better read the material!

Awesome teacher. Take at least one of his classes.
Great teacher. Entertaining and tests are fair, if not a little on the easy side. He teaches a class you might actually enjoy.
Johnnie is always a blast. He challeges you while keeping things interesting and fun. Going through Sierra without having Johnnie atleast once would be a big mistake.
Johnnie Terry is HOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!
Johnnie is the man. He's a great guy and an even better teacher. He makes you think like you never have before. His class is how it should be, tough, but not a lot of work, just a lot of thinking...Best teacher I've ever had
Great Teacher! Best I had at Sierra. Engaging, interesting, funny. Wasn't even interested in the subject before the class, now I'm reading and thinking about it all the time. Good debates. Fair tests.
Johnnie is a great teacher. Fun energetic and open to other poeples opinions. Expect great debates and hard test. Over all great class!
I took his class because I heard he was good. I knew nothign about Phil & he took that class (boring..sorry to offend) & made it very interesting & understanding. I try to take other Phil classes & NO ONE can compare. He always had time to talk & help. Johnny you ROCK man.
Still to today, he is one of the best teachers I have ever had at Sierra. This class opened my mind to so many things that I never considered before. Jonnie is an extremely intelligent guy and I highly recommend taking any course by him. Go Jonnie!!!
I love you Johnnie!
Love the class and the teacher. He made me want to go to class.
Johnny is the Man! He could teach a class about**** on a stick, and still have me sitting in my desk captivated to the max.
Johnnie is the best teacher I have ever had. He makes anything interesting, and really makes you think. I actually enjoyed sitting through his lectures because he is so hilarious and animated. I have taken two classes with him, and I can't wait to take another!
Johnnie kicks ass. I had the pleasure of shopping with him in Rome, Italy.
I am definately an official member of his fan club. :0)
frikkin easy and fun as hell. i completely liked his class. which is hard for me to say.
Soo amazing. The most interesting, witty teacher I have had in my life. Almost made me change majors, he is that cool. You will love him.
Seems like a great guy so far... !
awesome teacher with great and up to date techniques
This class was awesome. I learned a lot and was challenged to think further outside the box than my norm. He keeps things interesting and humorous!
Who could not like this man he is the funniest smartest teacher I have EVER had!!! I love all of his classes and wish I could take more

Funny, interesting and made me love going to class. The discussions are a blast to participate in, i always left smiling. And the tests are fairly simple, b/c he leaves nothing uncovered.

He is so great. Take his class you wont be sorry.
Johnnie - your name is spelled wrong on here!! Its Johnnie, with an IE!!!! I love you man - your classes rock, your teaching style rocks, your lectures are always interesting, you made me LOVE philosophy. I'm now a major in it and it's all YOUR fault!!! Seriously - take ANY one of his classes. You will LOVE him, the subject, the discussions.
This teacher was one of the greatest i've ever had and because of him i'm thinking about changing majors
Great teacher, but i still prefer Amir to him. He is too structured, though he tries to deconstruct it with humor. Take him though you will not be dissapointed. Take Amir too, of course, if and when he comes back.
AWESOME GUY. SO GOD DAMN FUNNY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This man is the reason I majored in Philosophy. His classes are not only mind-altering in the freshest way, but also fully entertaining the entire time you're there. If you're honestly interested in the topic and you can get into his class, you're in for a great time!
i didnt get te appearance question, but i would recomend this class and teacher to anyone over any other teacher. no teacher has kept me more interested in any subject.
Johnnie's the****!
What else is there to say besides what other's have already posted? He's passionate about his subject, is perfectly fine with being corrected, and he's hella good looking. But maybe it's just his sassy personality... =D
Veryy sassy and fun to take! KNows his subject better than almost anyone I know and is always growing. He isn't just a really good teacher he IS one of the best.
Wonderful teacher, the best ever !, funny, knowledgeable, humorous, helpful and blessing from GOD!
Coolest teacher ever. 'Nuff said.
He's awesome. He was incredibly animated and dynamic, which made the class so engaging. You could see his passion, which provoked critical thought in me as well. I want to take any other classes I possibly can that he's teaching. He's amazing.
TAKE THIS TEACHER. Helfpul. Funny. Nice. Caring. Compassionate. Wants you to succeed very badly. Really opens your eyes to the world. An INSPRING teacher you will NEVER FORGET. =)
A truly remarkable professor. The experience of taking one of his courses will be on you won't soon forget. Don't worry about what your major is, take at least one of his classes, it will change your life; and you'll be having a lot of fun during the process!
Quite possibly my favorite professor and definetly the best Philosophy teacher. I just hope if you're interested in this class, that you are open minded enough to listen to everyone's point of views.
Freaking awesome class! Prof. Terry is so hilarious. Great investment!
Wow, quite possibly the best class I've ever taken. He's clear, he's fair, and he's really funny. Plus, he picks the best reading material, not hard at all...there's nothing like an open book test :) FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took his class an online and it was a blast........I was addicted to the discussion board. Got in a few arguments with the religious fanatics, yet Johnnie always had my back and was real with his responses and didn't hold back the TRUTH...BEST TEACHER AND CLASS AT SIERRA BY FAR.....I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!!
This was my favorite class I have taken at sierra college. It is very very interseting. I love jonnie because he is so passionate about what he teaches. It is a rather difficult class with a lot of reading, but you will do fine if you go to class and pay attention.
Excellent instructor!
One of the best classes I have taken at Sierra. Johnnie is hilarious. Took his t.v. course and thought it was great. I went into the class not knowing a lot about religion so some things were a little challenging but overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended.
What can I say that hasn't been said already...This guy is AWESOME! Amazing sense of humor and compassion when it comes to his art and I'm so grateful for having the opportunity to learn under him. Thanks for all the wisdom Johnnie. Peace.
Most awesome teacher!
Seriously the BEST class & teacher I've ever had. Take Phil. 6 w/ Terry. If you listen and actually think about things, it may change your world. I LOVE this class.
Johnnie is amazing. He'll open your eyes to things and make you think. He's hilarious, and definitely entertaining.. the class isn't an easy A. You have to read the books, there are a lot of them. but it's definitely worth your time. he's great
I absolutely love this class! Terry is an excellent teacher. It is a lecture class but his sense of humor and sassy attitude help the class go by. The topics are very interesting too. I would recommend this class to everyone or anyone. For 8 in the morning he sure wakes me up!
great, exciting, challenging class
This guy is a great instructor. I strongly recomend taking one of his classes. He makes the subject matter interesting, and he is laid back in a way that still motivates you to get it done.
LOVE the teacher and the class. He's funny, knowledgable, great teacher and person. It's not easy and there are alot of books to read but the subject is interesting and his lectures help guide you through the books. Great discussion and he is ALWAYS avaiable to help you. Take this class.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. YOU MUST READ THE TEXT.
Terry is the best teacher I've ever had. He not only cares about how the students learn, but he also cares about what they think! I took his class and it completely changed my life (for the better!). I can't promise the same unless you really get into the text and the discussions, but I can promise you'll love this class if you apply yourself at al
By far the best teacher I've EVER had. He's interesting, hilarious and he opens your eyes to all the issues. He's AMAZING at what he does. That class was by far my favorite. A word of caution: Terry is very blunt and very persuasive. His class is not for those without an open mind. But you MUST take at least one class with him in your life. HE'S FANTASTIC!
Terry is my all-time favorite professor. He takes an often dry and abstract subject like Western philosophy and brings it to life. He'll inspire you to read more about philosphers outside of class. 10 years later, I still remember his lectures. He is the Man.
Best teacher ever!! Very good at teaching and knows a lot about his subject... Easy class but you must do the reading .... his slides help tremendously
Johnnie is amazing! Best teacher I've ever had, no question. I learned so much from each class I've taken from him. If you have the chance definitely study abroad in Greece with him, it'll change your life!
Take this class! Johnny is the best teacher I have ever had! The material can be complicated, but he explains it so well and is so funny that it really doesn't matter. This class is sassy (you'll get that comment if you take the class)!
Hmm, 90 something comments about how awesome and hot he is?! Well, whether he wrote them all or not they are all 100% true!!! haha Johnny is the best!! Everyone should take at least one Johnny Terry class, it doesn't matter what your major is!! You'll even feel deprived if you miss one lecture, he's that amazing. The man is a legend.
One word: BOSS
I hated this class. I thought that the material was too off the wall and one of the books i never opened and still received an A in the class with a solid 96%. I would never take one of his classes again the tests are extremely hard I studied took notes, flagged pages, and still had to have my book open in front of me for every test
Great professor. I couldn't wait to show up and hear that days lecture. By far the best class I've taken to date.
Johnny is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's funny and always made subject material extremely interesting.
One of the BEST teachers I have ever had, I have taken his class several times... AMAZING! HILAROUS!!! I would major in Johnnie Terry if I could...
GREATEST TEACHER EVER!! I'VE LEARNED SOOO MUCH FROM HIM AND EVEN ABOUT MYSELF AND MY OWN PERSONAL BELIEVES. HE IS ALSO HILARIOUS AND VERY ENTERTAINING, YOU WILL NEVER FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS. HES JUST AMAZING, I URGE YOU TO TAKE HIM
Johnnie turns students into philosophy majors. His classes are consistently among the most popular on campus for a reason: Johnnie makes philosophy as clear and as interesting as anyone can make it. Seriously, Sierra is lucky to have him! A "must take" professor.
He is everything everyone says he is. He's the "must take teacher" of Sierra. Halfway through you might get a little restless from taking notes but towards the end, the class just gets better. The exams are easy essays or multiple choice.
The last negative comment is probably a kid from my class now, and professor terry finally let the student know whats what!that said he is a GREAT TEACHER! lots of reading, essays are easy and the books are a fun read. I'd love to take another one of his classes
THIS IS THE BEST TEACHER AT SIERRA! It doesn't matter if you like philosophy or not, this guy is amazing. He is very funny and very easy. His classes are very low stress and really easy and funny, but in the end it actually helps you learn a lot. I learned so much from him without having to stress about a grade. TAKE J.TERRY!
Johnnie Terry is like Darth Vader. I'm an Engineering major and after taking a philosophy class with Johnnie Terry I was tempted to go to the other side.
He treats the class as equals. He does not feel like typical professor, he speaks in ways we can all understand. He truly excites me knowing people get to experience his ways of teaching. Who thought a teacher with slides and lecture the whole class could actually be engaging, try to ignore him, you cant! you find yourself wanting to go to class
LOVE JOHNNIE!! He is amazing, the range of topics covered and the thrill of his delivery make him my overall favorite professor EVER!! I took him over 8years ago and ran into him recently and he remebered me, BRILLIANT! If you approach the class with an open mind it can be so much fun!
WITHOUT a DOUBT a top 3 teacher at Sierra College. He represents EVERYTHING that ALL teachers SHOULD be. It's refreshing to know that there are teachers who actually understand how education should work. A++++++
Best teacher EVER.
There is a lot of reading, but it is extremely interesting stuff. He chooses excellent books and really gets you thinking.
Best teacher ever. He will challenge you to think differently.
I have taken his online classes and get A's. Professor Terry was the one teacher who changed my life by taking his classes. I've never even seen him or heard his voice, but I will always remember him as The One who helped me understand the things I needed to know in life in order to move forward and get the best possible exerience! I love the guy a
Excellent teacher! Wonderfull communication skills. Flexible on due dates when properly communicated. Always happy! Uplifting!
amazing professor!! makes everything interesting and the work is manageable ...take a class from Johnnie!!
There is no better professor than Johnnie Terry! I would take any class he was teaching. He is understanding and laid back and a really fun interesting person. All work is done online and is pretty much opinion based so it's very hard to do bad.
I took this class online and thought it would be really interesting as everyone said before. It was much harder then I thought, and there went my 4.0 GPA. Plan on reading up to 150 pages a week, it's a lot of work and he requires 3 books! And a set of DVD's. The tests are very hard and very hard to grasp the concepts. He was very nice.
Also took class online. I disagree with last post. There was definitely not 150 pages of reading a week unless you fell behind. Class was harder than I expected, but if you did the reading and participated in discuss. there is no reason you shouldn't get an A or B. Prof Terry was extremely helpful- I'd take another one of his classes on campus.
good teacher! didnt turn me to a phil major, but definitely made me think. barely cracked open my books and still did decent in the class. hilarious guy, i always looked forward to class
awesome guy and great class!
Wonderful professor. Amazing ability to take very dense and near incomprehensible philosophy material and relate it to the most simplest and every day life things a young college student experiences. Also VERY witty and sarcastic. More class discussions than actual lecture. Highly recommend Johnnie Terry!!
He's okay, but I think he's overrated. I didn't find his teaching and lectures that interesting.
I love Johnnie, he is quite an amazing teacher! I only wish I had known about him prior to my last semester
Hilarious and engaging teacher. His favorite word is "sassy" and it makes me giggle everytime. Take his class just for fun, it would be worth it.
Fabulous teacher! He is so great so clear, and real. He connects with the students and never takes anything too seriously. If you read and attend class you will pass the test with an easy A.
Lots of reading but easy class. He's such a funny guy. He makes a lot of jokes in class, and it's the funniest class I've ever taken. We changed to the blog systems that you submit 1 blog and 2 comments each week as HW. Final exam is multiple choice. Should be easy if you read the books (there are 4 of them though)
Johnny is an excellent teacher. Very good at explaining elusive/complicated philosophical concepts. He beats up the Christians badly though (and no, Im not religious). I feel that he allows the class to get off topic too easily-- the Tangent Pony. Over all, a good teacher and worth taking any classes that he teaches.
i loveeeee johnnie!!! most inspirational person i have ever met. so funny and entertaining. changed my life and views on the world/society. so insightful and knowledgeable. you must take one of his classes!!!
Johnnie Terry is a phenomenal instructor. If you leave Sierra College without taking his class you are doing yourself a disservice. His philosophy 6 class is extremely interesting.
Amazing teacher. Took him for Atheism. Down to Earth, talks to you like a person to a person, not like a Professor to a teacher. Hilarious in class and on his blogs. Easy Peasy class, but interesting.
Don't leave Sierra without taking one of his classes!!! One of the BEST teachers I've EVER had. Makes thing SUPER easy to understand and his sense of humor will keep you always entertained and involved. There's not a bad thing to say about this guy!! He's incredibly talented at what he does.
I LOVE Johnnie!!!!!! He is an awesome teacher who obviously cares about teaching and his students. His classes are the perfect combination of challenging and inspiring. His expectations are clear, his lectures are awesome (very funny)! Take one of his classes you will be glad you did! The man lives up to the legend :)
Greatest professor ever. Nuff said.
Terry Is one of the best teachers I have ever had class with, he is amazing at how he informs the class and keeps you very interested. Everything he teaches is relevant and applicable. At the end of the class your hoping that it wont end.
No words can clearly describe how amazing he is
Easily the best teacher of all time!
Johnnie is, and always will be the most amazing professor that Sierra college has seen.
I totally recommend him as a teacher! He is so funny and his class goes by really fast. :)
AMAZING teacher!!! He is hilarious, brilliant, and you learn so much. If you want to get anything out of Sierra take one of his classes.
It was an online class. I wasn't super interested in the material, but I was very happy with Johnny. He e-mailed us every week to update us on the previous material and the new material for the following week. Liked the class. He's worth taking for ANY class. He's a great professor, probably one of the greatest at Sierra.
Johnnie is a very cool guy. He is very passionate about the subject and engages the class every meeting. Very colorful and outspoken. Really easy class but at the end of the semester you definitely know the material regardless if you truly earned your grade or not. I would definitely take another one of his classes in an instant.
Johnnie is a great teacher. Symbolic Logic can be extremely stressful at times but the more you do it the easier it becomes. Also took him for Lit/Film online, he is great at facilitating an online class. ALOT of reading but very worth it, both classes with Johnnie were great, highly recommend taking any class with him.
JOHNNIE TERRY IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Honestly, his class changed my life and if you have an open mind he can change yours too. Seriously... his logic is undeniable. There are a few books and you need them for reference but you can get away without reading the full texts ...and he grades really easy. TAKE PHIL 6 WITH HIM!
Hey, if you don't like this guy, there's something wrong with you. I've tried taking other philosophy classes with other teachers, but after having him, I just drop and take them with Johnnie instead, he sets the bar and the other classes are just dull in comparison. Take Johnnie Terry if you want a truly awesome experience.
This class is the equivalent of watching a religious debate between the smug atheist and the naive christian at any college party ever. The difference here however, is that johnie will almost assuredly win - and then do a celebratory victory lap after. If that's not your thing, just read the textbooks and avoid the slow motion trainwreck altogether
Professor Terry is the man. His classes are always fun, and he doesn't leave any guess work on what's expected. Took him for knowledge/reality and symbolic logic, and those classes were always the highlight of my day. Strongly reccomend.
The best professor I've had so far. He has a very witty sense of humor that makes the class really fun. He also makes philosophy easy to understand and enjoy. The class consists of a couple essays and three exams. If you come to class and pay attention, you will do well. You will be too interested to get bored or miss class.
I did not know anything with regard to Philosophy prior to signing up with Johnnie. He is clear on his explanations, has depth of knowledge that is amazing and never critisizes but is always constructive and helpful. If you don't like this instructor, the problem is you the student.
This guy is the kind of knowledgeable, passionate professor you dream about encountering when you go off to college. He's incredibly approachable as well, so if you don't understand something you can always go to his office hours. Take as many classes as you can with Terry if you want to leave Sierra with a real education on top of your degree.
I had his tv class and when i went in for help he was much better looking than on tv. His tech Amy and him conversationalize too much. But when Amy does interject then she does help bring some clarity. His class is a bit more difficult because you have to pick up on what you really need to know in his lecture. It's definitely not a slacker class.
I'm in the same class as the prior rater. It should clarify her rating that she comments on his looks, misuses "converses" and uses the incorrect pronoun (him conversationalizes?). This class uses interesting novels, the professor has bad taste in films but it's easy, clear and fun. He knows the material and does all he can to help us to learn it.
The best teacher i have ever had. Extremely helpful and every class is very interesting. He's hella funny too.
easily the best teacher i have ever had in my 3 years at sierra college. he is VERY into his subject, he knows it very well. my ONLY piece of advice to enjoy the class is you HAVE to have an open mind. if you have that, you will fall in love with it.
His online Critical thinking class is tough! You don't login at least twice a week good luck passing! Truth trees are huge! The video quiz's you really have to pay attention to. His is a great teacher the material is just really really tough. I can see how this class would have been much easier if it was on campus. If you take PHILO4 online study!
Great teacher in my opinion. Always willing to help, and accepts late work (for a reduced score) but the course load is heavy. He uses a lot of books in his course. But the course is fun and you will learn a lot. I'd take him again.
Absolutely amazing teacher. Explained class content in depth perfectly from the point of view of philosophers. If you ever want to take a Philosophy class, make sure you take it with Johnnie! He has so much passion for Philosophy and teaches excellently. Only criticism I'd have is things get a bit rushed at the end but things get easy to compensate
Best teacher ever! One of my first classes at Sierra and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Attending class is worth it because his lectures are basically the tests. His personality is the best too, and he is sassy.
His Intro to LGBT Studies class was fantastic. He is passionate, funny and the lectures are easy to follow. We watched a lot of videos and read a lot of books. It was fascinating and class discussion was highly encouraged. He is an exceptional teacher. I've also taken a Philosophy class with Johnnie. He is my favorite Professor at Sierra.
I took his online humanities 5 class. I loved it. There is a lot of reading, but it was all really interesting. Really made you think. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. The tests were all simple, and the workbook was simple but took time. He always replied back to e-mails very quickly. I can't reccommend him enough!
LOTS of work. I just needed this class to satisfy my GE, but it definitely took up a lot of time trying to really absorb and read through all the material. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you are interested in the material, and have time.
This class has a lot of work - so get things done! He's a great teacher who will help you if you need it. Must attend classes.
Took Tv course. He made it interesting. Make sure to take notes and it will be a breeze. He is a good professor.
Don't take his courses online. He can be a great professor, but he likes to go outside of the standard for online classes. Materials are due at noon instead of midnight and it makes it extremely difficult to get things in during a compacted summer course. He is not forgiving, so don't miss anything.
This professor is absolutely awesome! I took his class online over the summer and I loved it. He had great reading material that really made you think. He stays in communication often and is easily approachable. Read the syllabus, stay organized, and you will get an A. He is not difficult, just wants to see student's best efforts.
I took his summer Phil 4, critical thinking class. His class is clearly structured, due dates are know from the first day and he emails us reminders. I messaged several question and he responded each time within 3 hours! Students bust his chops because they miss his due dates but that's not his fault. Pay attention. Do the work. Easy A. Fun class!
One of the best Professors on the Sierra campus. He gives a clear syllabus for the whole semester on the first day of class. He makes the subject interesting and fun.
One of the best professors I have had. You need to see the lectures in order to pass his class, but they are very clear and he is always ready to spend a little more time on something if you need it. Recommended.
Took this class online in a fast track session. Missed the deadline to complete the first 101 point quiz and still received a 97.5% in the class. He's very strict about deadlines & lots of READING. As long as you participate in class discussions, read all books, & complete all your homework you should get an A. I highly recommend you to take him!
Prof T makes his class fun, however sometimes I felt like topics were repeated far too many times to the point where we got behind and were rushed to finished at the end of the semester. If you show up to class it is pretty hard to not get an A. The tests are straight forward and he allows notes.
Loved the class, it requires a lot of reading and you have to read the books. As long as you read the books and do well on the midterm and final it will get any one an A. He is funny and a great teacher, I will miss this class greatly.
Knowledgeable about subject matter. Engaging and entertaining instructor. Fair in grading. Has good control over classroom. As a former adjunct professor (different field) and "older" returning student, I don't hesitate recommending Johnnie as an instructor. It's probably not an easy A, but it certainly is a doable A.
All you have to do is read the assigned reading, which is quite interesting, and participate in the discussion boards. His quizzes and tests are based on reading. These classes are easy if you put in the effort to read!
He is a great professor. He gives you all the materials to succeed and of course he tests you to see if you read! Read and participate in the DB and you will do just fine!
No professor has ever affected my life as much as Johnnie has. If you open your mind and allow yourself to question reality, feel uncomfortable uncertainty, and know you don't know what you don't know, this class can shatter your reality and allow you to put it back together piece by piece in a new and exciting way. I'm so thankful to this course.
This professor is very passionate about philosophy, but your grade is only based on 3 tests. He is very unorganized and gives the tests whenever he feels like it. His class consist of long lectures, no homework or class work, but a ton of reading. I was really interested in philosophy but i would never take another class after this.
Follow the trend of reviews for this guy and not the odd exceptions. Gotta love critiques of professors that complain that a college class requires reading. He doesn't lecture. His classes are discussions with students. Students who participate love his classes. He is passionate, caring, approachable, friendly, knowledgeable and inspirational.
This instructor is one of the best at Sierra. Very knowledgeable and a great lecturer. This is the second class I've taken from him and appreciate his depth and instructional technique.
great teacher. I learned so much from the class
I took Johnnie Terry's Symbolic Logic class. I hate math, I'm math-phobic, I choke on tests. Johnnie's lectures made it all easy--not only easy, FUN. He is very friendly, very funny, approachable. He expects a lot but he gives you everything you need to succeed. GREAT class. I'm straight; he's gay. He's 45; I'm 23--but he is hot.
I took the class first because it was needed AA and I had a little interest in the topic. I ended up LOVING the class and wishing I had taken it in an actual classroom and not as a quick summer course. Johnnie was quick to respond to my emails and very supportive.
I took this class because I heard he was great. I wasn't doing the work and he called me on it. He pushed me all through the class and he emailed me again when I got an A in the class. He was more excited about it than I was. I was ready to give up but he told me how to study. He was right and he didn't give up on me. This professor cares.
Came recommended from a coworker. All I can give him is, my classmates and I passed the class. It's an easy class as long as you do the readings. But he was disorganized, his sarcasm doesn't translate well online, instructions weren't always clear, and class will be a nightmare if you disagree with the textbook or films.
I've just read the last review of Terry and I'm in the same class. The last review leaves out some important information. No $200 text book but he explains everything thoroughly and has videos of his lectures on canvas. Also, over 90% of the class has an A. I didn't do the extra credit but he at least had some. Attend class and it is easy. EASY.
GREAT CLASS. I left each class feeling inspired and aware. I left several crying and some laughing. I'm not LGBT but the professor really feels this material. A LOT of really good reading. Probably one of the best classes I've ever taken. I'm taking LGBT 2 next time.
I took Johnnie's symbolic logic class because I'm a philosophy major and I've heard it is the hardest class at Sac State--people struggle to pass. He made it fun, exciting and interesting. I don't think I would have passed it without taking his class. He cares and wants his students to succeed; he helped me succeed. Textbook is online.
Johnnie does a great job of teaching a very difficult subject and making it easy and actually fun. His lectures are hilarious so if you need a morning class this is a great one. Make sure to always stay on top of homework (not that much) which are on his very short tests. No expensive textbook either! woohoo! One of my faves at Sierra.
Johnnie is by far the best professor I have ever had. He lets the class chose when they are ready for the tests. He focuses on what students are struggling with and will not move on until everyone understands. He has a passion for teaching and cares a lot about his students. He does not require a text book but gives an option to get one. Love him.
Amazing professor, and my favorite class this semester. Please take it!! You learn a lot of history, a lot about the community, and Johnnie really cares about this class. Discussions are important, don't be afraid to speak up. And he's a really really easy grader, it's an easy A.
I could listen to professor Terry lecture all day long, lectures are always interesting and hilarious. Tests are a piece of cake as long as you take notes during lecture and do your reading. Highly recommend him and looking forward to taking more philosophy classes with him in the future.
This was a challenging class for me. Did a lot of extra work (not extra credit work) to do well in the class. I'm in classes for the experience and keeping my very old mind sharp (well, at least not slushy) a few extra years.. Johnnie is far and away one of the best instructors I've experience at Sierra.
You'll hear about this professor all over campus. Always entertaining. Very inspirational lectures. Will make you think. That being said he does get pretty offensive so if you're sensitive, be careful. Super easy class. Just show up to class and you'll probably get an A. Solid professor.
You'll hear about this professor all over campus. Always entertaining. Very inspirational lectures. Will make you think. That being said he does get pretty offensive so if you're sensitive, be careful. Just show up to class and you'll probably get an A. Quite the character.
Professor Terry is a pretty good teacher. This class was difficult, but he was willing to explain things as many times as it took to help students understand. His passion for symbolic logic fueled my interest in the subject and helped keep the class interesting.
Johnnie has an awesome personality, and absolutely does want to see his students pass, but it's difficult content so you have to go to class! He takes attendance for this reason. The tests are very fair, but there are only 3 (and one homework packet due at the end of the semester worth the same as a test)
Love this professor! Put in the work and your grade will reflect it. He's very fair and super helpful. His enthusiasm and knowledge on the subject makes his students equally enthusiastic. Also, he really cares about the success of his students. 100% would take a class of his again!
PHIL12 & PHIL10 Offers alternatives for textbook use and/or rentals. Good reading choices. Really influential/inspirational. Would take any class Johnnie offers to teach. Clear grading criteria, easy A if you learn material that he makes it easy to learn. One of my very favorite professors!!
Bewear of this online class. He does not provide any powerpoint lecture notes or additional information about the chapter content. You get a textbook and have to teach yourself.
This guy is awesome. I take his Philosophy class on-line and he is funny there. I heard a rumor that he also has a accent and so that's awesome too ha he's very great with grading and understands the majority that everyone is saying in the weekly discussion boards. He checks up on his class every few days to make sure we don't forget about him lol
Philosophy of Science is a great class for me because I'm a science major. Some of the material is abstract and difficult but most is not. This class has a lot of reading. The professor provides short lectures that really clarify the reading. His quizzes and exams are really easy if you prepare the way he suggests. He tells you how to ace the class
Fabulous class, outstanding professor. Professor Terry is interested in his students understanding the subject, and providing all necessary encouragement to help us pass. He is quick to praise and lets students respond to each other in discussion boards unless we get off track, then he comments to pull us back on track. Terrific professor!
I've taken 2 classes from Professor Terry, and find his use of workbooks an extremely effective way to help me learn the subject. His lectures are incredible, the choice of videos entirely appropriate for the subject, and he encourages us to find the interconnectedness between texts, videos, and lectures. Terrific class, wonderful professor!
Taking Intro 2 LGBT online during the summer was tough- but so worthwhile. I looked forward to going on canvas and participating in weekly discussion boards. Take notes on the documentaries you watch and read your classmates posts! You'll think about things in a new light... (including your own life)! Get ready to read and study! Johnnie was great!
AMAZING professor, he is my favorite. he is honestly life changing and I want to take his philosophy class again for no reason. He explains everything so well and it has changed my life. he has the best sense of humor and even when the class gets serious you're so glad it did. the reading is interesting, TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Loved Professor Terry! Took his online atheism class and feel liked I learned SO much. To get an A, read the assigned readings each week, participate in DBs, be prepared for the 4 quizzes, and get G.D. project done early. It was a low stress class and opened my mind to new levels. Absolutely loved how he structured the class. Fav humanities class.
He is awesome! His class was set up nice online, just do the readings, participate in DB's, the quizzes correlated with the reading assignments. Changed my view of the world in a good way! The final is a workbook that you have to answer about readings. Very easy. Take him if you have the chance!
This is the second class I had with him just this semester! I am taking him again in summer! Great teacher, easy criteria, lots of reading but its worth it! Final is a workbook based off readings very easy!
One of the best teachers I have had. Such an amazing guy and I am so excited to be taking another class with him next term. He is so passionate about what he does and what he stands for. I loved this class!
This class is amazing. 4 books and you read them all. 4 movies that are actually really good! A lot of work but not hard by any means. Not formal final and no essays. He is an awesome professor, I've taken many of his classes and he is great!
Great professor. Clear and concise in his teaching, really wants to make sure everyone who wants to understand the material does. Funny and entertaining as well. Wish I had taken one of his classes before my last semester, would have taken a few more. No book to buy, grade is 3 exams and homework. Easy IF you pay attention and do the homework.
If you have never taken philosophy or thinking about doing it then do it. Professor Terry is an amazing teacher. Philosophy with him gets you thinking about so many things and very interesting. He is very fun and has lots of stories too. Definitely recommend him.
I have taken him twice now and he is amazing! Very organized and is a clear grader. This class is heavy on reading. There are 4 reading quizzes, 1 matching quiz, 1 workbook, and a discussion every week that requires 3 posts per week. I really enjoy the reading and videos he provides.
Interesting class. I am not much for Humanities, especially when it relates to the Ancient Greek and Romans, but this was a fun class. Lots of documentary films. If you participate and follow the grading guidelines, you will do great. I wish Professor Terry was more into giving feedback on grading though.
Professor Terry's classes are demanding; they demand that you learn the material. The material is interesting though and this is the ONLY time that I've actually seen people like me reflected in the version of reality they are teaching me in college. It just felt so damned good. Terry is knowledgeable, compassionate, passionate and kind.
The BEST professor I have ever had during my time here at Sierra, and possibly during my entire academic career so far. Johnnie runs his class in a way that captivates his students, ensuring that the course material truly sticks. Take and of his classes and you will definitely never regret it! However, do not snooze on his exams!
Prof. Terry is hilarious, which is an added bonus since deductive logic can get really tedious if taught by someone with a plain personality. I'm taking intermediate logic after I transfer to a UC, so I've spent time working on it. But the workload for this class is very doable for any major; just do the homework and pay attention during class.
Wasn't planning on taking this class, but am so glad I did! Johnnie is a terrific instructor. He ties all the material together. I had several a-ha moments in this class!
Interesting class but easy. You watch a film one day and the other day of the week is lecture. Your grade is based on 3 papers, midterm, and a final. Easy night class. I dont like watching movies but I lived through it.
Terry has a simple rule: he cares about those students who show an interest in his course. Even though he is a tough grader, if you pay enough attention during the lectures and practice on your own as well, you will be satisfied with your A.
A true professor. Rather than stressing students with the material, he takes a relaxed and caring approach. Very forgiving when it comes to exams. Amazing lecturer and very funny. Enjoyed coming to class and learned A LOT. Class was fairly simple if you pay attention and do all HW on time. I wish more professors were like him. The best at Sierra!
I've had Johnnie in more than one course, and each experience was phenomenal. In the case of PHIL 12, he did an excellent job at teaching symbolic logic in an easy to grasp manner. He moved quickly at times, he was very much open to answering any questions after class or during office hours. Quite possibly the most hilarious professor I've had.
I took Jonnie's summer lgbt film summer class. Right off the bat he sends an email stating the expectations for the class and to drop it if you don't feel capable because he has a wait list. Grading was hard- i stated how I interpreted the films but if he didn't agree you got docked big time. The class became a chore to pass, find another one
Pretty easy class, just lots of work. Weekly discussions are easy and can be BSed without doing the reading assigned that week. However, the main tests are just short answer questions about the books (4-5). They are easy if you have read, but reading takes awhile. Responds to emails quickly. Overall good choice and easy A if you have the time.
One of the most engaging and interesting classes I have taken. Terry is hilarious and engaging. The class is just challenging enough to be entertaining.
One of the best classes I've ever taken! One thing I have to say is that you cannot procrastinate or it sucks! Absences don't matter but I wouldn't recommend missing the class! (I'm not sure why you'd want to.) He definitely gives you enough time for assignments! He is very understanding. He is hilarious and funny. I highly recommend him!!
Very clear assignments, do the reading and the assignments and you should have no issues with passing.
Amazing :)
I took an online class with him & he is an amazing professor. I can feel his kindness through the computer screen. Make sure you do your discussions every week that are fairly easy. In my opinion he is not a tough grader and his assignments/tests are not too difficult.
Johnnie is both hilarious and inspiring as a teacher. Can be very nitpicky with what he wants with his assignments, but he's also very clear in his grading criteria. Very blunt and witty guy who wants everyone in his class to succeed. Just follow his instructions carefully, attend most of the classes, and read the texts and you'll succeed.
I took LGBT1 with Johnnie spring 2020. He was caring understanding- shifted the class tremendously during the pandemic when we had to go online. Responds to emails quickly and is always willing to change assignments due to majority class feedback. I felt like it was an easy A. Pay close attention to all the films and youll do very well.
Would take this professor again. He wants to make sure everyone passes. I'm a procrastinator so I turn in my assignments the day of mostly and he emailed me every morning the due date of an assignment telling me he didn't have my assignment in yet. Thankful for the reminders, even though I still had like 8 hours until the assignment was due.
Johnnie Terry is an awesome professor. He keeps his students interested and has a great sense of humor. Discussion Board is a huge part of your grade so make sure to do the readings and participate. He is great with feedback too and loves to have discussions. Highly recommend him for any HUM class!
Summer class. The best professor I have ever had. Thourahly enjoyed this class. Books required but can be used as resources for everyday life. TAKE THIS CLASS. Personable, Kind, Funny, Genuine, Honest, compassionate. Thanks Johnnie!!
I took his LGBT studies class in the Spring before and after quarantine and I loved the in-class and online curriculum! I love Johnnie for being so open and helping to explain anything you have questions about. 100% would take his class again.
I took LGBT 01 summer 2020 and I loved him. Lots of reading, helps to have prior lgbt knowledge but its not a dealbreaker. Watch the films-they are helpful. 4 exams-2mc and 2 short answer. He is very nice, very easily to talk to, and expectations are clear. If you can't manage reading, don't bother but its a fantastic class wih a great teacher.
Took this Spring 2020 semester and loved it. The course itself is very informational and eye-opening. He's not heavy on assignments, just mostly watching films and having discussions. Some lectures. Not tough. Plus Professor Terry is kind, reasonable, and highly entertaining. A wonderful teacher and a super sweet person.
I loved Prof. Terry, but I wouldn't take his Queer Film History class again. I took it thinking it would be an easy elective and it was a lot more work/harder grading than I thought. Terry is hilarious and gives good feedback on quizzes and discussion boards, but there's definitely no easy points. He gave an amazing E.C. opp. this semester though.
Professor Terry is clear and kind. He organizes the relevant material for us before we take the quizzes and, if you're doing the reading, the quizzes are super easy. What's fun is that while I'm organizing the material he told us to use for the quiz, I start to understand the film better. He met me for an office hour and we laughed the whole time.
EASIEST CLASS EVER! I stopped reading the textbook and maybe did an hour of work a week. Class consists of weekly responses( easy 100%), four quizzes (get online textbook to command F it), and one paper (got 100%). Literally the class is stupid easy I stopped doing work and ended with a 100% in the class by just writing fancy for weekly discussions
This is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about what he teaches and gives such amazing feedback I took this class during a covid semester so it was online but I would definitely take other classes he teaches. It was mainly just discussion boards a few easy quizzes and a very flexible term paper.
Loved this class. There's no textbook but, you'll have a few short books to read. There were 3 exams and a few "workbooks" based on books that we read - Very easy though.
Professor Terry was a great teacher, especially during this pandemic. Every week we were to read a chapter (20-30 pages), post three times on the discussion board, and have a quiz every other week. Straight forward class; do the readings, you pass. Really cool, chilled guy! I am taking his LGBT class, because he was such a good professor.
I took HUM5 online during fall 2020. Prof. Terry changed his requirements for discussion board posts listed in his syllabus halfway through the semester, marking down grades. He does not offer lots of help. Directions on assignments need clarification. Super reading heavy, but if you do the reading and watch the films, you will pass the class.
Terry is amazing, helpful, consistent, clear and he has made this class fascinating, doable and fun. In the middle of the semester, I had a covid scare and contacted him. He checked in on me daily. His grading criteria is clear and never changes. The d-boards are easy and they were consistent throughout (contrary to the next comment).
I did not want to take this class. Symbolic Logic scared the heck out of me. Why??? BUT, I've never had a professor who supported and cheered for me the way this one did. When I was crying, he laughed with me. He was far more confident in my abilities than I was and HE WAS RIGHT. He LOVES this subject and you will too.
He is very kind and excepting as well as very interesting. He gives a lot of work plus we had to read two books this semester and both were very triggering. He grades separately by discussion posts and will fail you if you dont do them. Hes a good teacher but a tough grader you will be putting in work.
I love Johnnie this was my third class with him. Discussion board every week. Four quizzes throughout the semester and a very easy term paper. Thats it! He grades very easily and sends constant reminders. He cares about his students.
Great class! Every week you read a chapter from the textbook and have to write 3-7 DB responses (your choice how many). The grading criteria is simple for DB's, you get tallies each week and they add up at the end of the semester to give you a final score. There is one term paper and 4 reading quizzes! The only thing is that emails are ignored.
This is the only online class I have ever finished. He made a difficult class so easy & easily accessible and assigns amazing books and films!!
Johnnie Terry was a great professor to have this Spring semester. If you were curious about taking LGBT Studies, I highly recommend him! If you do, make sure to read every book, short story and essay plus movies given in the weekly units. They are key to the quizzes and exams. Participation in the discussions are important to your final grade.
DB's play a major part in final grade. Get ready to read several books and watch several documentaries, with quizzes, weekly DB's, mid term and final exams, all open book/note. This class was super informative and I would definitely take another, if I could.
loved this prof! consists of easy DBs and quizzes with unlimited attempts. very smooth course :)
The DB are easy if you did the reading, and the way that they are set up is actually really helpful in retaining the information from the book. Can retake quizzes an unlimited amount of time until they close. Really inclusive and positive teacher; reaches out to remind you of DB if you haven't submitted yet, like he wants us to succeed. :)
Amazing professor! You can tell he truly cares about his students and wants us to succeed. Discussions are easy if you keep up with your reading. Grading is very straightforward. There are quizzes throughout the year that you can retake as many times as you want up until the due date. One midterm paper but he gives you plenty of time to finish.
Weekly DB where you pick one prompt (out of 6-8) and discuss it; comment on one other student's post. Biweekly quiz that can be retaken unlimited times until the due date. No trick questions, all info comes directly from textbook. Really nice guy. Term paper is interesting and straightforward, not super time-consuming
literally the best professor I have ever had. He really cares about the students and what he is teaching. There are a few books to read throughout the year with quizzes on them, but they are easy and AMAZING reads. Group notes page so we can build off of each other and the tests are all super easy as long as you read the material. I 100% reccomend
this is my second time taking a class with Professor Terry, and I couldn't be happier I did! Phil6 just consists of quizzes (unlimited attempts) and some writing assignments based on the reading (which are pretty general, definitely doable). he is so receptive to questions and willing to help. take him!!! :)
No strict weekly due dates - 3 collaborative notes pages for the year, and weeks to work on each one; just take notes on whatever materials from the modules that you want. A couple of quizzes just to check understanding but super straight forward. Easy grader, wants you to succeed. Really great class, I learned a lot and it humanizes things
This course & professor are both incredible! He is incredibly knowledgeable and understands that the LGBTQIA+ community is always developing. He provides exceptional up-to-date resources and great examples through media selections that can open up the understanding to all. I would recommend not only this course but his other courses as well!
LOVED taking queer film with prof for my GE reqs. Class is really interesting, and I got to see a bunch of films I never would have seen otherwise. Film selections are diverse and interesting, some of them are new favorites, and all you have to do is show up to watch movies and take quizzes. Reqd book to read was interesting. Fantastic night class
Great Professor. I've taken two courses from him and would tell everyone to take him for everything he teaches honestly. Best Professor I've had at Sierra thus far. You read a lot, but you have the option for audiobooks (which is lovely). Incredibly rewarding course. I loved JT. Do it!
If I were to describe Johnnie I would say he's a man with a lot of heart and soul. He is definitely a passionate and informed source for LGBTQ history. In fact he's had firsthand experience from when some events occurred. He has many colorful life stories, encounters, and emotions in his lectures. I definitely recommend the course.
Johnnie is a delight! A very attentive, helpful and available instructor. SL is a difficult course, but Johnnie provides ample opportunities to redo and understand the material provided. Gives two weeks to complete each unit which proves to be incredibly useful when taking multiple classes. Very kind and funny. Highly recommend
This class was my favorite one I've taken, yet. Professor Terry makes learning the material easy, though it requires a good amount of reading. He is very understanding and gives good feedback. I would absolutely take one of his classes again.
He is super funny and the lectures are enjoyable. He really wants his students to pass his class, he is very supportive as well. Really easy class.
Johnnie is a great professor with amazing subjects in this concept. He makes learning fun with documentarys and cool stories from true people. It feels like a very real class and he is so supportive of anyone. He makes announcements so you don't forget about assignments and if you do a good job he will give a 100%. An easy and interesting class.
Worst professor I have ever had, do not take any of his classes.
Professor Terry's classes are educational experiences. His classes aren't difficult but not because they are easy--but because the information is so interesting and he is so engaged, that it makes completing the work fun, exciting and easy. This was his last semester before retiring and it was an honor to be in his class.
I took queer film studies in 2023. His personality is great and it really makes you enjoy the class. There was barely any work and if you were present during the class and participated in the discussion you would get 100% on the "quizzes." His curriculum and the films we studied were captivating. I truly recommend taking a class from him.
Professor Terry's class is engaging and informative. The readings and documentaries are interesting, and unstuckstudy ai helped me prep for the quizzes and exams. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it to learn from Terry's firsthand experiences.
Johnnie was absolutely incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures, the book chosen, and classroom participation. He has a lively and creative way of explaining concepts that makes reading the content that much more interesting. Keeping up with the reading and reading questions is important if you want to understand.
