Tells jokes before every class. Sports references too. Take notes and read the sections and you will get an A. There are only 2 papers and they are very easy. Great teacher.

Great professor, everyone should take his class at least once.
Tells jokes everyday. Goes off on Tangents.. doesnt write much on the board but writes an outline to follow along with. good teacher hard quizzes. YOU MUST READ Much eaiser tests. two simple papers they are kind of time consuming if you arent good with BS

Do everything in your power to take him! He is soo funny, good lecturer 3 tests (including final-which is not cumlative) 2 easy papers, quizzes everyother friday.do the reading and go to class you will be fine. you will want to go to the class!Take him!
Terrible teacher, but has sense of humor. Gives you quizzes on readings every other week,and they are in depth questions. He expects you to know what is going on without explaining it. Finds it better to teach you humor than history!!
this man sucks!yeah haha he's funny but my gosh learn to freakin teach.quizzes suck, tests suck, and his lectures suck. sometimes you get so caught up on his lame jokes that you can't even take notes. if you're not bery disiplined with reading every detail and teaching yourself don't take this class
Awesome professor! Tells a joke before class and is quite clear in lectures. If you don't do the reading for quizzes you will not do very well. As long as you do the reading and pay attetion in class you will do fine! Definately would take another class of his!

Great teacher. He made it very interesting and he definately knows what he's talking about. Make sure you read for the quizzes. His tests come right from the notes.
He's sometimes a funny guy. he talks to much and his class is long and tedious1 You will fail all his quizes and test and if he like you he might pass you. IF CAN DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!

This man think he is funny! You will fail every quiz and test and he won't let you take you quizes early or if you missed that day. Only how you're going to pass is if you're one of his groupies and he like you! If possible DON'T TAKE HIM TAKE THE OTHER TEACHER HE'S BETTER!
My favorite professor here. Does a great job of keeping you interested in the class. I would recomend him to anyone who needs to take a history class

Moore is a great professor. He's definitely passtionate about what he teaches and knows what he is talking about. His sense of humor makes classes easier to get through and fun. The quizzes and tests can get hard but if you do the work its no biggie! I definitely recommend him!
He moves away from the topic he started to talk about. the Test are a lil out there.. Lots of reading. But Funny guy.

Dr. Moore is a good professor and keeps you interested as he is very funny at times. Tests are somewhat hard but he throws no curveballs as his tests come strait from the notes. He is always willing to work with you. Take his class...I highly recommend it.

Just a great guy. Does the best he can with the class' content. He does *try* to be funny and interesting, which is more than you can say for most teachers. His classes are not hard if you give even a minimal effort.
a really nice guy he always starts the class out by telling jokes which is much more entertaining than most teachers...his quizes are incredibly INCREDIBLY hard and you have to do all the reading and work but the tests are pretty easy and overall he's a great teacher if you do all the work.

His jokes help wake you up early in the morning. Pretty easy going, very clear and intelligent in his lectures. Quizzes and tests are always multiple choice, not too hard if you read all materials. Two small papers during the semester based on the readings, rather easy course. Kind of strict attendance policy.
He's a good professor when it comes to lectures, but his test and quizes are a lil tricky! If you want to pass this class YOU HAVE TO READ! He takes daily attendence!
Not a bad guy, but gives incredibly hard tests and quizzes. I am an A-B student and could barley manage a C in this class. I ended up dropping it because me and over half the class couldn't get good grades on his tests/quizzes. In my opinion he is way to hard for a Gen. ED. teacher.
funny guy but it doesnt help that he doesnt teach the material well. all u can do is read the book. about 7 or 8 ch. on a test and 4 ch. on a quiz extremly vague on what material it will be on. asked for help on how to do better and he just looked at me like i was dumb. Im warning u to stay away from this teacher if ur smart.

Class was way harder then it should be for a 100 level in my opinion. Starts off each class with a corny joke. I think he didn't talk enough about history during his lectures, and went off topic too much.
Class is fairly easy, he goes off on tangents alot so it can get confusing. Quizes are hard so you definitley have to read the chapter to get a good grade on those. He starts off classes with some corny jokes and things like that, he is a very nice guy.
He is really funny and usually keeps your attention. His quizes are near impossible but dont affect your grade much. Just do the study guides for tests and your fine. GO TO CLASS

Bad teacher, almost everyone fails his quizzes...and everything on the quizzes isn't even discussed in class. Do NOT take this course with Dr. Moore. Hardest class I have ever taken.
A good guy, but not a great teacher. His class is entirely lectures and it's up to you to take the notes you need to pass the quizzes and tests. Quizzes and tests aren't exactly easy, reading assignments for the quizzes are lengthy and really count towards your grade
Took him for an intro and material was way more diffacult than it needs to be for a 100 level class, off on random tangents can beconfusing. Tries to have a layout for the notes but it doesn't help much. During the final interupted the test to yell at another student which seemed very unprofessional and was distracting.
- avoid this class- I read all the bad comments and took it anyway and then had to withdraw from the class. quizs and tests are so hard ! I went to talk to him about it and showed him my notes and his answer was to look into dropping the class -he is a doctor and thinks he is better than everyone -
This guy is an idiot. the first 20 mintues is spent on really bad jokes and the rest of class is a complete blur. He goes off on some many different tangents that you have no clue what you just talked about. Plus, his quizzes are impossible. PS- Dr. moore, if you're reading this, get a new wardrobe its the year 2009 not 1975.
He talks about everything BUT history. One day he spent half the class talking about things he could buy for a penny when he was a kid. He is nice, but a terrible teacher. I read the chaps every week and still failed all the quizzes and tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.
This professor is a complete butthole. He will tell you within the first few days that he has his doctorate in history...it doesn't show. The quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE. Tests aren't so bad but still hard. If you want to fail this class take him. He tells stupid jokes and talks about everything but history. He is a jerk.
Great teacher... he may get boring at times but he is really good and grades easily... just read the book and write the papers..his test are from the book and its EASY...hes a great teacher
everyone thinks this class is impossible. it really isnt that bad. i have no interest in history and it is one of the hardest subjects for me. as long as you read the chapters you can get through the class. the quizzes are pretty tough but they dont count for much of your grade. and the tests are mainly from the lectures so their not that bad.
i used to love history before i started failing quizzes in moore's class. his lectures are so random, its hard to take effective notes. even if you do the reading, its hard to guarantee a good grade. his jokes are dumb, his stories are dumb, his lectures are dumb. overall, it's just dumb.
i am in this class right now and i would have to say that it SUCKS! i study all the time and have never made higher then a 75 on the quizes..he doesnt teach u anything in class cause he starts talking about all this other irrelavent stuff. he tries to make jokes and there not funny. i cant keep up. and tests do NOT come out of the book btw!
He's a nice guy, but his class is pretty boring. Fifty percent of class is spent covering irrelevant topics. None of his information is online, so if you lose the syllabus, your kind of screwed. Attendance is mandatory. Quizzes are tough but not impossible. Tests are easier.
SO HARD! Quizzes are impossible. I've never made a higher grade than 75 on his quizzes. Tests are slightly easier but not much. I've read the chapters and studied and still have done terrible. The only assignment I've done well on are the short papers. Avoid if possible.
This class is impossible. He's a funny guy, but it's highly unlikely that you will do well in it. The average is around a 60, or less. AVOID IT.
this class is pretty much impossible. his quizes are straight from the book nothing from calss and his test are what he talks abou in class. he talks about baseball and random things all class. not history! so hard!
He was a good teacher and loved sports, but his quizzes were difficult and his exams were nearly impossible to get a good grade on... He will work with you though if you visit him during office hours!! P.S. if you are in UNIV100... interview HIM!!!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. Tests and quizzes are impossible. He gets off topic very easily. You have to read every night and the tests cover everything he talks about in class so you have to take a lot of notes and its hard to make up what you miss if you dont go to class.
Reading the material is crucial to passing the quizzes. He's a great teacher and an overall interesting person. He's very approachable if you need to talk to him after class or visit his office. He's good about responding to emails.
Extremely rude in comments. He has stated that because he has tenure, he can talk about anything he wants to. My opinion is that he abuses this right by talking about sex almost every single class. He does know a lot about history, but he doesn't relay that information very well.
He is constantly telling storys and jokes which is entertaining but he often goes off topic. His quizzes and exams are basically impossible. Many of the things on the quizzes are not even in the book or in your classroom notes. Basically a difficult class. I think he should have been a comedian rather than a professor.
Hilarious man. But it's not so funny when you receive failing grades on everything! :) cool guy.. I could listen to his jokes for hours, but I'm afraid I wouldn't take him again for history. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Guy tells jokes the whole class. His in class lectures rarely help. You must read your text book and study for his quizzes they are not easy.
Excellent professor! One of my favorites here at Radford! His quizzes come straight from the book. & the tests come straight out of your notes! He gives study guides before each test & goes over it if you ask questions. He is also willing to help and if you dont understand something or you missed something in your notes, go see him! Very helpful!
Dr. Moore is a really funny professor! His class is mandatory and he takes attendance every day! Every class he lectures and takes his own notes on the board. There is a lot of reading. He gives quizzes every 2 weeks and I found them difficult. Exams are really hard too. I studied a ton for this class and still had a hard time. I barley got a B :(
Dr. Moore is one of the most approachable teachers on campus. He's a fair grader, his papers and tests are straightforward, and classes are interesting. I have no idea why he's gotten some poorer reviews on here, I think people just need to reevaluate what they're expecting at the university level.
This guy talks more about his personal life than history. He spends the entire class telling jokes and stories. He does not give you any notes to take.

Please do your self a favor and do not take Dr. Moore. I enjoyed history before he ruined it for me forever. He thinks he is superior to everyone and not once did he actually lecture about what was on his tests. I can easily say he is the worst teacher I have ever had.
Great teacher and a great man. Very approachable. I was a history major and had him twice. Makes learning fun and class is fun as well. I strongly suggest taking him as a teacher. 5 stars!
Dr. Moore is interesting... He tends to get off topic a lot, but he really is funny! When you need help figuring out how to study, go to his office hours! That helps a lot. YOU HAVE TO READ IN ORDER TO PASS!

You have to teach yourself. He tells jokes the whole class &class notes don't help you on quiz and test. Enduring Visions is the textbook you quizzes will come from and Taking sides is the book you will read and write essays. Test will consist of material from both books. If you want to maintain a decent grade, I don't recommend Mr. Moore.
Absolutely horrible. Off topic and rambles in class then puts that random information on tests. Tests are so hard and quizzes you definitely have to read the book to get any type of good grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!
No no no. Don't bother. He throws things at you that he never talked about in class on tests and quizzes. His "notes" on the white board look like a math equation. Funny guy though! Just needs to be taught how to teach better.
I don't know what the issue is. I'm taking Dr. Moore right now for Hist 355 and I think it's pretty easy. All you have to do is do the work that's assigned and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. Yes, he does get off topic a lot but it's usually funny and keeps class interesting instead of just being a dry lecture. I like him.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I was lucky to get a C in the class because it was so bad. He is really easy on grading the papers you have to write but unless you teach yourself the material you will not pass the quizzes and definitely not the tests.
I personally really enjoyed his class! He is extremely knowledgable. His lectures are relevant to the class material, but are not on the quizzes or the tests. If you want to pass his class you have to read the book thoroughly. If you want an easy A find another class, but if you want to really learn he is perfect :)

AWFUL professor. He puts no notes on the bored just writes down random words that you can't even read because his penmanship is so terrible. If you don't read the book or readings he assigns you will not understand anything on the quizzes or test because it's unlikely that anything he talks about in class is will be on the quiz.

He's a very nice man but his lectures don't even relate to the readings you're supposed to do. He just talks the entire class and half the time you don't even understand what he's talking about. He'll tell you that what you discuss in class is on the tests/quizzes, but 95% of the time it isn't. If you take his class, GOOD LUCK. Really. You need it.
This class was miserable and incredibly difficult. There were 3 tests the entire semester and small quizzes throughout. They were all incredibly hard and really unrelated to the material we read about in the text. He did not teach in class, all information was self taught.
Hes a really cool and funny guy but always goes off topic in lectures. You don't get any notes for his class you have to self teach everything so get ready to read a lot. If history isn't your best subject I would stay away from him
Dr. Moore is very nice and organized. The quiz/test material is not based on lectures- 98% OF IT IS ALL FROM THE BOOK! He gets very off topic but he does write notes on the board. All of the quizzes were open note (helped A LOT), the two writing assignments are easy & he also added curves on the tests. Read and you will do well.
He lectures every day. You must have 2 textbooks for his class. His tests are things from what he says in class and about poets you have to write out of one book, quizzes are out of the other book. He goes off topic a lot and it's hard to know what he's going to test on. Absolutely dreaded his class.
He tends to get off topic during his lectures so in the end you may fall asleep. He's not afraid to call people out for not paying attention or being on their phones. Otherwise, he's a good professor. He's passionate about what he's teaching and cares about his students. Be prepared to talk about the Cubs.
Hardest class I've ever taken. You have to have two books for the class. The tests are from what he lectures about in class and quizzes are out of the book. Takes me 4 hours just to analyze one chapter and its usually on two and they're open note. You must put in the hours if you want a decent grade. Attendance is mandatory, skip and you will fail.

If youre into history or are a major hes an incredible professor. courses are very reading-based and his lectures are usually somewhat different from the readings. Might be tough if youre not used to college level history courses. Challenging but helpful with writing and clear on whats expected. If you are a HIST major I highly recommend taking.
what he talks about in class has no correlation to what will be on assignments, a lot of his lectures are completely off topic to what is going to be on quizzes and tests. would not recommend him to anyone and will not take any of his classes again
This professor does not use powerpoint, write on the board, or use any type of visuals. He talks the entire class period and it is very hard to keep up with what he is saying. His quizzes are open note, however it is difficult to take notes because he talk off the top of his head and gets off topic. He also doesn't use D2L, everything is on paper.
Talks more about current politics than whatever you're paying him to teach you about. Reading is essential for this class
As a professor in class he was fine but when it came to online there was a lack of communication.
Professor Moore was by far the worst professor I have ever had. His tests were over 100 questions, and half of it was on 1 of the 2 books you need. For most of the questions, you had to know exactly what the book said verbatim. He doesn't really stay on topic during class either so it's hard to take in-class notes. Would not recommend him to anyone

I thought he was funny & really helpful when I would miss class or a quiz, he cares deeply! will get off topic but he means well! If you do the basic college student stuff: read, go to class, study? Youre golden. Do the extra credit too!!
This class was difficult because if you didn't go to class you didn't pass, same with doing the multiple chapter readings for homework. Everything has to be hand written, no electronics (laptops too). Boring lectures.

Iconic professor. Dr. Moore's lectures were hit or miss (sometimes he just had us watch videos for 75 minutes) but he was really fun to be around. He's a fairly lenient grader, and with all the things he had us do (5 book reports, 3 tests, innumerable quizzes) I feel like I genuinely learned. Johnny, you will be sorely missed in the history dept.
Will make you read and dissect some of the most uninteresting books known to mankind
