He asks you what kind of tests you want to take, the tests are only 5-10 questions, and the study guides are literally exactly the same as the tests. Easy A, and I'm not good at math!
His class is amazing, you will pass with an A, he lets you pick what test you want.
FUNNNN!!!! CLASS!!!!!
The online course was awful. Partially because free math lab is the worst and partially because this teacher has no idea how to use it. The homework was closing before the actual due date and the notes didn't explain enough. I googled' my way through this class and failed by three points. Save yourself the heartbreak - don't take this class.
Prof Petit was absolutuly amazing! I'm not very good at math but he will explain a problem as much as you can until you understand it. The test and homework were easy. I highly recommend taking his class
Professor Petit was great!!! He had an extra day every week that was available for you to come and receive help. His test reviews were relatively close to the test and he goes over the reviews in class. Show up for class and you will pass. :) :)
He's very passionate about math, and if you're passionate about math as well then this is a good professor to take, but if you aren't a mathematics major or a math fanatic, then this professor is an extremely poor choice. His tests are long and grueling and formatted quite poorly and his ability to explain the material in laymen's terms is abysmal.
Mr. P is great, he doesn't teach for the money but just because he loves to teach (his own words) and you can really tell. He will stay and work as he can to make sure everyone understands a problem. He uses every opportunity to give points on tests and give chances to get back points. He does have an accent but I never found him hard to understand
Mr. Petit is a fair and easy grader. He definitely knows what he is talking about and prepares you well for the final. If you do the homework and study for the tests then you will be fine. Make sure that you try to come to class everyday because most of the stuff on his tests he goes over in class.
The best teacher that I've ever had for math. Love the fact that he helps you when you need help and he won't go on to the next lesson until everybody understands what there doing. He lets you do extra credit when you feel like you didn't do well on your test to add some extra points. I would definitely take him over again.
If you need to take the MTE modules take Professor Petit. You do need to buy the access code for the text book. Don't buy the entire textbook. She genuinely cares about your success and how well you understand. She genuinely wants to help and will help until you understand. Most caring professor. I wish she taught higher math and not just MTE.
Go to class. He is a great professor, he is super passionate about math and it shows. Opportunities for extra credit on tests, drops lowest test grade at the end of the semester. He brought pizza and cookies to class one day, just because. Nice person, great professor. Take him! Just be ready to put effort in.
Johnny is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He is super passionate about his job and he is always willing to help you out. He stayed at school on Friday night for 4 hours just to make sure his students were prepared for his final. I would recommend you take him! You just need to go to class because you will be lost if you don't attend.
Johnny has been the best teacher I've had at TCC. He cares about your success and he's very passionate about teaching & math in general. He keeps class interesting and makes you enjoy coming to class. He has a great sense of humor and is very intelligent. He wants you to truly understand the material. He goes over and beyond for you in everything.
Great teacher. Great guy. Big fan of partial credit and relaxed grader. Will help you if you make an effort.
He is great at teaching and if you make good grades he remembers you. Likes to call out kids in class to come to the board and work out problems. Always do the study guide because not only is it exactly like the test but you also get 5 points extra credit. There is a lot of homework but the only ones that have a due date are the ones in class.
Best teacher I've ever had! You have to study for tests but he cares a lot about your grade and if you go to class he remembers you and makes sure you do well. Reviews are the same as the test. Really great guy!
Great teacher, very entertaining in class. Reviews are very similar to the exams and professor is always ready to help.
Math in general IS A HARD subject. To me at least, I've never been good at it but when i took professor Petite i ended up and A!! He cares for his students and ALWAYS wants to help! He likes students that interact and participate, if you struggle in this subject and barely show up to class don't expect a good grade
Awesome teacher! He is funny, really cares for his students, makes sure you understand!
I would recommend this class for anyone who struggles with math!! He breaks down the problem very well. Although he does studder. Hes very lenient. Just come to class do the quizzes and homework. Ask questions !!! If you try he will help you.. trust me communication is the key to passing this class and attendance. He jokes a lot. He loves Soccer
Dont let the two Bad reviews scare you!!!! His class is very easy! Im not good with math at all and Tbh I passed this class with a 78% only because I was being lazy with the quizzes ang homework. Hes very lenient. Attendance is 4% of your grade and 10% comes from the homework & quiz. Trust me theyre worth it towards your grade!!! Ask questions
Literally, communicate with him! He jokes a lot but he does want the best or better for his students. Go to the office hours he provides, if you have any questions or concerns. I'm glad, I took this class this summer and having him as professor because he has a great attitude towards students.
I took him over the summer and def would recommend. listen, I SUCKK at college algebra but you will def pass his class. He does give ALOT of online homework and tests are long but very similar to the study guides he provides. He gives a study guide that is similar to the final!! Attend every class because you get a attendance grade.
Good at math, bad at teaching. He would say things like "I will look over a test over and over again if they got a 100, just so I can find a tiny detail wrong so they don't get 100". Also he held his final exam at the wrong time and in the wrong classroom, so If you didn't show up over an hour early like I did, you could have missed the final.
Perfect teacher. I am poor at math but he does everything he can to help!
Great professor. Really cares that you understand and encourages your best. The class as a whole has a lot of homework in Canvas but not so much where you dont have time for other stuff. He also throws in some extra homework that is used to give you extra credit at the end of the semester. He is always available for extra help if you need it.
Professor Petit was a very nice guy, but his accent made understanding the content that much harder. I should have dropped the class when I had the chance. His tests are frequent, long, and very confusing. You have to retain vocab, in a math class?? I truly advise to find someone else. CUMULATIVE FINAL!!! and so much homework, endless.
Hes a good enthusiastic teacher. He gives extra credit for exams and is totally willing to help you understand whatever you dont get! I did struggle because im bad at math but he made it less stressful and did help me! He does have a strong accent but you get used to it after the first week!
Terrible Online. His online class isn't organized well at all. Most of his videos do not cover everything the homework teaches you, and forces you to use outside sources for answers. He is not organized at all, first day of class he has assignments from last semester and the syllabus was designed for on campus student. He is lazy and unprofessional
Nice person, but terrible at lecturing. Me and few other of my classmates can't understand a word he saying, even when we ask for help his English is terrible. I have to always look on Youtube and go to Learning Common for help. So bascailly I'm just sitting in class for just attendance .
He is awful his teaching is non existent and his directions are even worse. It is hard to know what is expected due to the lack of directions.
This class is just awful notes and videos do not help you at all you end up researching or finding someone in real life to tutor you. he doesn't care about you or your grade. For example I had to call him to get into Test one cause it would not let me take it he was more concerned with missing Game of Thrones then me taking my test.
Professor Petit was super nice. I was able to reach him in his office hours and through email. I took an online class and he was helpful and understanding. When a bump in the road came up I reached out such as work. I'll take his class again.
Mr. Petit is intelligent and seems nice, but his teaching style was not helpful to me. The online homework and extra credit homework (students must print) was extremely time-consuming. Most homework was not covered in class or on the tests, which was a waste of time. Videos & online homework need total revamp; I used outside sources to pass class.
Mr. Petit is like any good professor, he expects you to show up and be active in your education. Follow his syllabus and you will never be loss.
He is not a good teacher. He is extremely hard to understand and study guide does not correspond with the test.
This is the second time ive taken him and I don't regret it! He really cares for his students and will help you out if he sees effort! Really a great math professor. He can be kinda hard to understand at first, but I promise you get used to it. I am not that great at math, but he really helped me!
One of the best math professors I have ever had. Mr. Johnny is very understanding and will work with you. Just beware of due dates and the discussion boards :-)
At first, Johnny was hard to understand. Once you get past the accent, he is very knowledgeable. He really cares for his students and on every test offers extra credit. There is a lot of online homework. He wants you to go to his office hours so take advantage of that!
Take Professor Johnny! His accent is hard to get past at first, but really easy to get used to. Math is not my best subject but if you show him that you really care about your grade and meet with him in his office, You will NOT regret it. He is a great guy and he is very passionate about math. He wants the best for all of his students. AWESOME prof
TAKE JOHNNY! Heavy accent; yes! However, after the first week of class, you will get us to it. Do your homework, GO TO OFFICE HOURS, and show him that you are trying. The first test will be difficult since you are not use to how he writes his exams, but don't drop. Do well on homework/quizzes then you will pass the class. Office hours is KEY!
Omg this man ...I roll his class online and everytime I would have an issue with homework or whatever I would email him to know how I should move forward. This man doesnt respond to none of his emails. The homework is hard even watching the videos so I suggest taking this course or all math classes IN CLASS!!!
He is a great teacher if you looking to pass without doing the work this is not the class for you. He is a great teacher, if you are trying to advance your math skills and become a fully mastered it this is definitely the professor for you.
Math has always been my worst subject & reading these reviews had me completely frightened. I went to office hours consistently and he is FAIR! If you work hard, you can get an A, if you're lazy, then you will get the opposite and you deserve whatever grade you get! His accent is also not bad. Most of these reviews are honestly misleading!!
This guy is a genius. It may take a second to catch up with his teaching, but it is worth it in the end. He has you dissect equations to fully get the meaning of why we have to use it. He is available all throughout the day to assist your questions. His test is usually hard, but he points out your mistakes afterward so you understand your wrongs
Easy FAIL. I took him for summer which was a 5 week course, and because of this pandemic it was mandatory that I take this class online. He knew the difficulty of the subject itself, but he refuse to adjust to the online setting. He gave 6 tests, every week there were up to 19 assignment due, and his penmanship is illegible and he stutters.
He doesn't respond to emails and doesn't offer extra credit. He seems like he means well, but the zoom was mandatory and always made me more confused as opposed to teaching myself. No mandatory textbook or hw code and all exams are on honorlock w camera. He also randomly calls on people during lectures even before the concept has been taught.
Speeds through lessons and expects students to know the concept taught in a single class. He does not answer emails. Loads of homework, but have very little impact on final grade. We had 3 tests plus final exam that will determine final grade. Each test is done with honor lock. No extra credit and formula sheets are not allowed during tests.
This class is a lot of work and assignments are due in chunks, you'll work all day if you don't manage your time weeks before due dates, which can be on holidays. He does push back dates after the due date has passed which is great for makeups. Mathway is your friend but the tests are generally like the quizzes and the practice tests.
Johnny was a great teacher he made the class both funny and productive. I had taken trig before and done horribly, but he was able to explain all concepts so well and with so much patientce that i did not struggle at all this term. Seriously take this class all hws, quizes, and tests give you mult. tries on each question. Also allows retakes.
My experience with this professor might have been the worst I have ever experienced in my college career: the lectures were disorganized and confusing, he would not respond to my emails about the various typos from the homework which coincidentally affected my grade (no updates... still). I strongly urge students to stray away from this professor.
He is hard to understand because he has such a strong accent. If you miss class your grade will drop a ton. His hw is weighted more than his test so if you get a 40% on a test your grade will only drop like .3%. You have 5 test and a final some were honorlock some wernt. If you go to class and do the homework you will get an A.
This was the worst class Ive ever taken in my entire college experience. The last week of class, he decided that he had the grade weights in wrong the entire semester and dropped everyones grade by at least 10 points. He also never answered emails when we were trying to contact him about test errors. He never made honorlock test available on time
I only got an A in this class by completing the hw. 4 test on honorlock but he never posted them on time. At the end he opened up all the hw's and to retake all the test. The final was optional and replaced your lowest test grade. He is bad at answering but just keep texting him and show u rly need help and he will look out for you.
The material for this class is hard enough as it is and with him as a professor it makes it a million times worse. I could hardly understand his accent so I couldn't understand the content being taught. His lectures were all over the place. If you do take this class, ASK QUESTIONS! The homework takes FOREVER to do. Wouldn't do it over if I got paid
Mr. Petit is a good professor. I found this class tougher than MAC2311, surprisingly. However, if you stay on top of your homework, attend class, and ask questions when you don't understand then you will do well. Mr. Petit also strongly encourages class participation. He is obsessed with soccer.
Prof Petit's MAC1140 is not easy, but I am not great at math and have yet to come across a math class that is. He is fair but will not baby you. If he sees that you are really trying and participating in class, he will do everything to help you understand and pass. He was a great teacher that actually cares, but if you do not try, neither will he.
He does not respond to emails at all!! I had to teach myself all the material because his videos and notes were no help. They were not step by step. Nice guy but not a good professor
His classes are horrible it is the worst two hours of my week. He is so boring and I can barely understand him. He also has a constant ring sound in the background of his zoom meetings.
Drops loads of extra work without notifying. Extremely difficult. Test are 60% of grade.
The teacher was hard to understand due to his accent, and expected us to know the material just like him and solve problems in 30 seconds. Didn't understand a single thing taught in that class wouldn't recommend taking him.
Professor Petit is an amazing person; he loves Math and wants to instill that love into you. His lecture style could be described as more show by example, rather than talk you through the problem. He gives explanation when asked a questions, but if no question is asked he assumes the class understood completely. He also has an amazing life story.
Johnny is the best teacher I had at TCC. He is extremely approachable, extremely caring, and will help you as much as you need. Never had a more accessible teacher outside of class. He will help you succeed wherever he can! As with any Math class: just take the homework seriously and you will do fantastic. Wish I had more room to praise him here.
Possibly the worst professor I've ever had to deal with. Takes more than 24 hours to respond to emails, is not helpful at all. Has an insane amount of busy work which he does not provide clear explanation to complete, and is an absolute god awful mess when it comes to testing. This professor literally gave me 10 written papers for his math class.
Despite his accent, he is a really good teacher. Just like any other class, hard work is necessary to do well. Make sure to stay up to date the homework so you can always understand what is going on.
Calc 1 is very difficult but Professor Petit eases you into the concepts and won't make you feel bad if you don't immediately understand them. The homework/quizzes can be pretty intense but if you keep on top of the class it's definitely manageable. They're a great professor if you want to prepare for harder math classes later on in college.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!Horrible professor; by far the worst i've ever had. Does not answer emails and will not help you with anything. You will be teaching yourself.
I strongly do not recommend this instructor for any online class. Does not answer emails and does not follow the syllabus. You will be teaching yourself everything in this class.
He helped me out a lot. I just wish I could have taken him for mac 1114
He is hard to contact outside of class, he does not respond to emails. When you ask questions he does not elaborate.
Professor Petite had the right spirit but missed the mark when it came to teaching. His lectures never matched the homework and we had an overwhelming amount of quizzes each week. I found it hard to get ahold of him through email and many times his directions were unclear to the class. He's kind and funny but a very messy and difficult professor.
Mr. Petit genuinely cares about mathematics and will not shy aware from the derivation of formulas and introductory analysis which proves calculus theorems. This forces you to think critically and apply effort on every topic. For this reason, students uninterested in learning or lacking in self-discipline will find his course unpleasant.
People who already have a good understanding of calculus will find him rather easy, but for first timers I would avoid this professor. He is very theory heavy, which is fine, however he is terrible at explaining the most basic concepts. The way he explains stuff is how I imagine it makes sense in his head, but it is cryptic to everybody else.
Homework and test did not match. Not supportive other than saying listen to the videos and do the homework assignments. Spent hours in learnings commons for additional help. Had to withdraw due to the test counting a high percentage of my grade. Would not advise taking this professor.
If you understand the subject already, and want something to challenge you, I highly recommend him. But if this is your first time doing calc, I would not recommend him, his class is very difficult and hard to understand if you don't pre-read.
Professor Petit is a good teacher but you will be expected to study outside of class. It is also important to try to not miss any classes because if you do then you will be behind. One thing that I liked about his class is that the practice tests are exactly like the real tests so it makes it very simple to study.
This Professor is very nice and understanding but be prepared to learn a lot of the material outside of class.
Gives a quiz every Thursday, at first I didn't like the class at all. But it ended up growing on me, he's really understanding and caring and makes class fun most of the time. Only thing I don't care for is he calls on people during class. He made the class itself fun but you will for sure have to take time out of your day to do math outside class.
Although Professor Petit gives out a lot of homework, it is easy to keep your grade up as long as you complete all the online assignments. Going to office hours will definitely help, plus he is really funny once you get to know him. If you at least put effort in the class you will get at least a B.
I would rate Professor Johnny Petit a 0 if I could. I took his online Pre-Calc class and he never responded to emails or Canvas questions. He would test on material that he had not taught yet. His videos make no sense and he isn't available to answer questions. Do Not Take his classes unless you can teach your self. He is Horrible!
Worst Professor EVER! He does not respond to emails. He expects students to figure it out for themselves. He does not teach to his syllabus. His tests are on material he hasn't even taught yet. He gives loads of homework and doesn't grade anything for over a month. His final exam review packet did not cover anything that was actually on the final.
Johnny is a very good teacher. He wants you to reach your highest potential and is always there if you need any questions. He makes learning fun. Many people say his class is hard but majority of the time it's because they don't put in any effort to get a good grade. If you actually want to learn in a fun way, choose his class.
Mr. Petit is one of the best people you will ever meet. He is incredibly smart and personable. However, he sometimes may have trouble expressing his intelligence, or for lack of better phrasing "dumbing it down". I hope this isn't rude but there's also definitely a bit of a language barrier that may be something to consider when choosing his class.
he literally does not answer emails at all. terrible class to take online if you want to be able to communicate with your teacher. not sure what he is like in person.
He is pretty attentive. Just do the work and if he sees you are working hard he will reward that.
Constantly moved assignment dates because no one could ever access assignments/tests. He was nearly impossible to contact despite multiple classmates trying to contact him as well to resolve the issue. His discussion grading was inconsistent. One classmate said he took points for not citing her sources, but it was just solving an equation?
