OKAY JOHNNY IS FRICKIN HOT. and he it toally cultured so he knows about 50 languages. as a teacher, you can tell he really cares about his students and their work but he holds high expectations for them. this class is great for students who really want to learn in the class. an A is totally possible. just not an easy one.
He is a real nitpick about attendance and being on time really high strung and gives a lot of homework didnt like him

This is a real easy class. He gives alot of homework but it's all journal writing about reading assignments. Just use your "voice" in you writing and don't summerize too much. And don't miss a class!
This instructor uses a variety of sources to help his students reach a good grade. Good essays depend on the hard work of the student. Never be late to class, he starts on the dot. Good heart, cares about the student and their overall performance. Always answers emails. You get what you put into the class.
I really enjoyed this class. The discussions were frequent, interesting, and down to earth. The class itself was pretty challenging but if you put in an honest effort its not too bad. The course content was excellent though, he has good taste.
Johnny Sarraf took the situation with the Midde East(Eng. 5) and made it more understandable. I can now read the newspapers and understand the players involved. I enjoyed my conversations with students from Cairo, Egypt as well. He teaches the information but lets you draw your own conclutions. Awesome teacher!
Good instructor. Very helpful to his students. Cares about his students.
Johnny is a very good professor; he has high expectations for his students, but they are not unreasonable. If you are looking to coast through and pass, this is not a professor you want; but if you are willing to work hard, you will get a lot out of his class.
Mr. Sarraf is a wonderful professor he cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. Make sure to do all the assignments or you could get behind. My fellow class mates liked him too, and some of us are taking English 1A with him this fall.
johnny is a very knowledgeable teacher, however, he is extremely hard. i recommend him to those who is planning on taking one class. he expects a lot from every assignment and his grading is off the wall. it seems as though he cares more about grammar than content.
English 5 Middle East Focus, great class overall. Informative and difficult, but worth the work. You learn a lot. Recommend for anyone who is interested in becoming better informed. Johnny is very, very helpful, really wants his students to succeed. Always available when needed and flexible is circumstances are unavoidable. Great guy and class.
His Grading is ridiculous. If you used to get A's on essays expects C's in this class. Make sure you like the assigned reading or the class is going to be that much harder. It's a very tough class.
Hardest class i have ever taken. I used to love english and got A's on everything. In this class expect C's and D's on essays. You talk about random stuff in every class and you don't know what the techers talking about. The movies in class also suck. If you are not already an english professor don't expect a good grade. This class sucks.
Wow, where do I start. Sarraf is one of the hardest teachers I have ever had!! I could never understand what he was talking about, and the way he grades is ridiculous. I used to think English was my best class, but after Sarraf, I feel like running home to my mommy, and crying about the way he rips apart your essays. Get out if you still can!!
Johnny was a fantastic teacher. He is serious but has a refreshing sense of humor. He expects a lot out of his students, but is very forgiving. Johnny is very helpful and creates wonderful discussion without being biased or closed to others ideas. All in all, Johnny is your man.
Johnny is such a genuine person and it comes across in his teachings. He lays out his expectations clearly in the syllabus and the hw is regular but never daunting. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND his Middle Eastern Perspective Engl 5 class.
he was a great teacher. challenging, but it's COLLEGE, so deal with it. he knew what he was talking about, and i learned something new every class. class discussions were also entertaining. very good class overall, i took him for 1A too, which i thought was harder because of the grammar emphasis--but still, it's ENGLISH. i'd take him for eng5 too.
Johnny was a really nice guy. Yeah his class was a bit challenging but I still really enjoyed having him as a teacher. When he assigns reading, DO IT. He sometimes gives quizes right after. If you just come to class regularly and do the work your in good shape. Ask questions too because he always is open to help you out. Great guy.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! run away!!!!
This is one of the easiest English class' one can get. You learn a lot about other places in the world and its fun to see how people respond to it. Work hard and you will get an A but never on an essay. lol. Good luck and this is coming from a junior in high school so don?t try to say I am just smart!
i took his special focus class on the middle east and it was one of the best classes. he is an awesome teacher and is passionate about the subject. it is a challenging class but very rewarding. i learned so much and would take him again!
Dude, I am not going to lie, he made the class very interesting. He was passionate about the subject and has experienced it first hand, but he is a HORRIBLE teacher!! If you take initiative and an interest in his class, he doesn't care. Bases everything strictly on points. Very stubborn and does everything strictly by the book. Take another teacher
Fun class focused on Middle East relations with US post 9/11. Included detailed history, interesting reading, great class atmosphere. Knows the subject, discussions are fun, and is open to everyone's ideas. Easy essay grader.
Great teacher! Very clear on everything, discussions are interesting, make sure to participate, makes the class feel very comfortable with one another so when we have to speak in front of the class (and my biggest fear is public speaking) its not very scary since your very comfortable with one another.Highly recommend! Make sure you bring your book
im not gonna lie, ive learned A LOT from the middle eastern/U.S focus, and it's opened my eyes to the world. BUT, i normally get A's in english, and every paper ive gotten back from him was ripped apart and thrown back at me, let alone i might have to drop the class because im almost failing! AHHHHHH
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.He is very unconsistant, and is a ridiculos grader. He expects too much from 1A students and rips apart papers. If you're used to getting A's and B's on your papers.Be prepared to fail. He's a nice guy,but that doesn't do much for you as a student.RUN AWAY IF U STILL CAN!!!!!!!!!!
He's a nice guy but not really that great of a teacher. He seems to be somewhat of a snot because he taught at the american university in cairo.the way he grades is extremely off the wall.don't take his class,or you will never pass 1A.
I learned so much in the Middle East focus class that sometimes I forgot it was an English class. Grades are hard earned, but good for preparing you for University. The class discussions were sometimes strained. Regardless, what he is teaching in this class is undeniably important and he is best qualified to teach it.
I liked the class, I felt I learned a lot and I enjoyed our texts. He is a hard grader, but I felt he improved my writing and I am glad I took the class. Would recommend if you want to improve as a writer, but you have to put in the work and do all the reading.
Idk, he was ok at the beginning but i think he is on a power trip. For example, someone was tardy 20 minutes and he marked them down as absent? (3 absences he kicks you out)...like come on dude, really? This is college not high school. Hard grader, one sided focus on the middle east and overall i don't think he is consistent. I give him a C
I enjoyed his curriculum for English 1A. He tries to bring awareness of subconscious racism towards Middle Eastern culture while also providing an excellent agenda to advance writing and comprehensive ability.
Very helpful and funny. I did not dread going to class and Sarraf made it comfortable to speak up and actually learn something.
He is interesting, but a hard essay grader. If you show up at all unprepared he may very well shout at you and kick you out. If your a good student he is a nice guy.
Grow up and learn to study your material. This man is an excellent teacher, but he is a structured strict grader. If you are looking to learn, and improve then this is where you want to be. If you are looking to fulfill requirements without doing any work steer clear. Life isn't easy kids and college definitely isn't for everyone.
Holier than thou. Overkill on amount of work for how simple the lesson is. Do NOT take.
This is definitely a COLLEGE course; slacking off will not earn you a good grade. Johnny is very clear with his expectations and grading policy. Show up, do the reading, put in an effort, and you'll do great. This is a meaningful and important class that discusses issues many teachers would never bring into the classroom. Good class overall.
College level class. Heavy work load. Interesting subject. Not very understanding Professor. If you are concerned about your grade for scholarships etc- take this class at your own risk.
Sarraf is an excellent teacher. Be prepared (this means always reading the text and bringing ALL of the books) and participate in the group discussions and you will do well. He grades strictly on essays because he gives you a lot of time to work on them (at least two weeks for 5-6 pages). Not for those who don't do the work.
At first he seemed nice and interested in the material. He constantly wants people to fill up his lecture time by discussing most of the reading. Eventually became bitter since everybody felt they discussed quite enough. The homework and midterms were ok, but the final was a group project, so some are bound to be screwed without seeing it coming.
Class was pretty easy although he grades harshly on the midterm, and essays. I read every single assignment and still never did well on the reading quizzes. The answers are too specific and the answer choices are very similar. The people in the class were the annoying pseudo intellectual type that only spoke to sound profound and impress the teache
Great teacher. Very passionate about the subject he teaches! He goes above and beyond his duties to help students understand English!
Johnny is an amazing teacher. His Eng5 class involves a lot of work and he doesn't grade easy, but it's worth the learning experience. The only objection that some people have to him is that he grades harder on essays whose conclusions differ from his own. Ultimately though, I would still recommend him to anyone who loves actually learning.
Don't take Sarraf for summer school!!! he tried to pack WAAAAY too much into way too little time. I dedicated every night to my studies during summer & barely had a social life because of all the reading & assignments we had, & then somehow I got a B!?! there were reading tests everyday and he asked the most intricate questions :( Unfair grading.
Cool class but he's super strict. Make sure you show up and are ON TIME to every class and you have everything required with you, because he notices. Lots of reading quizzes that are easy if you read each story twice. Mostly just in-class discussion and some essays. This class is probably not a wise choice if you're not an English major.
A really awesome class. You will learn so much. The workload was very reasonable and he gives you enough time for the big projects. In class discussions every day so be prepared to talk a lot. The final is a book group presentation. The class is totally worth taking if you want to learn more about the Middle East.
He is not very helpful and is unwilling to work with students who have specific needs or questions. He asserts his own viewpoints and disregards others, which I found disrespectful. Definitely stay away!
Great teacher. Very interested in bringing out student opinions and encouraging students to see the world from another perspective. Be prepared for lots of round-room discussions!
The discussions are engaging and interesting but beware: no matter how much effort you put into the class, you probably won't walk away with an A. Sarraf almost never gives an A grade. Make sure to read all of the assigned reading twice because the reading quizzes can be confusing. Also very strict about perfect MLA format on Everything.
English/ME History class, imo. Attend>required!!! The reading quizzes require multiple material reviews, term papers demand precise focus and refined writing style, research papers better be MLA to the T. I gave it my all, and even dropped a course to devote more time to prep (earned a B). Sarraf is for those who wish to improve, no free As here.
excellent professor. very clear expectations, and yes, you meet them in order to succeed in his class. awesome thought provoking material. the best english class i have ever taken by far! thanks sarraf!
I used to be a slacker in highschool, smoked a lot of weed. Did little to get by. Time to grow up. If you want a class that you will walk away from with something, this is the class. Time to grow up. He makes you a better student, and he is very interesing. Hes hard because life is hard. He is only preparing you for the real world. Youcan do ittho
This is by far the most challenging course I have had to take at the JC. We are a month away from finishing the fall semester and more than half of the class has dropped and continues to disperse. This class is definitely NOT for everyone. With that said, I encourage those who are truly committed to take his class. Great learning experience! :)
Sarraf is not a good teacher! He is highly inflexible and unhelpful. He does not help students to become better writers, for he merely grades their work. He won't revise any rough drafts; instead, he will freely distribute low grades after receiving the final ones. Do not expect to improve your skills or to get an A in his class!
This man is a wonderful teacher and runs a spectacular english 1A course. Anyone who says differently is intellectually inadept. Yeah he is pretty tough. He has high expectations. But he teaches you A LOT, every class is fun. There is not one class I took this semester that I will miss as his, I legitimately enjoyed spending time in his classroom.
Sarraf's Eng 1A class was a challenge at times, but I now feel much more confident in my writing and researching abilities. It is a great class to prepare someone for the rest of college.
His middle eastern focused class feels more like a 5-unit class then the 3-unit class that it was. Previous knowledge of the M.E. isn't required, but it certainly feels like it is! Be prepared to be graded harshly and if you're an "A" student you probably will receive a "B" if you work your hardest. I had to drop this class cuz I couldn't stand it!
Johnny Sarraf is a wonderful teacher and human being. If you love a challenging and organized teacher, or if your an English lover, take him. Yes he grades harder than other easy teachers, but still fairly and he is happy to help anyone. Talk to him. He is so funny and his lectures are superb. The environment is kind and fun. He wants you to learn
This instructor has the potential to be a wonderful teacher; however, I recommend staying away for the following reasons: 1. He will set you up to fail by placing inflexible and archaic rules 2. His style of teaching takes the joy out of learning, which says a lot about him. So, if you want to be stressed out over trivial stuff, take the course.
Johnny is an amazing teacher. Hes super nice and easy to talk to. Strict on cell phone policy, take out your phone and he will give you an F for participation for the semester but dont let that scare you off. He just does it to help you focus. Hes extremely nice, after reading frankenstein we got to watch it in class and he brought us popcorn.
He was a tough grader, but I'll be honest, I deserved the grade I got. He didn't accept any BS and was strict. I can respect that, however, I do not want him as my teacher, nor would I recommend him. If your paper sucked, he was more likely to recommend you to the writing center, rather than help you. Hit or miss kind of teaching style. Im 50/50
Not for everyone. I learned nothing about English, but more about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. With confused me because I took the class to get better on my English skills. He grades tough, but does give you ruberic on what an A paper looks like. He wants to to participate in the discussions and read every assignment.
Sarraf is a nice person, however, he is an extremely tough grader, his lectures can be very long/ boring, and you must participate often in his discussions to pass the class. There is A LOT OF READING AND printing needed to take this class! Overall, can be very strict both in class and with attendance. Try taking another teacher if possible.
He's a tough grader. The focus of the class is interesting but it's clear that he wants you to align yourself with his viewpoint. He's a nice guy, just way more difficult than expected. Reading is a must in this class.
If this was an upper graduate Middle Eastern studies class, I'd give him an excellent rating. This class is 80% focused on (his biased view of theMid East) and 20% (at best) on English. Though little English is taught, he grades with incredibly high expectations. Do NOT take in summer. Make sure your printer has plenty of ink. No cellphones.
You definitely have to earn your grade in Mr. Sarraf's class, but he's there to help. You just have to make the effort to get help if you need it. Assigns important topics that matter. Not for anyone who isn't serious about being a student. Tough but fair.
Professor Sarraf is probably the best teacher I've ever had. He cares about the subject and is a very nice guy. In order to do well, you will have to care as well.
Slightly difficult, but very well structured. It's a class that is easy to follow; you will not feel lost at any point.
Mr. Johnny Sarraf is a great teacher. The grade in his class is earned. Respectable and always willing to help students with assignments. I enjoyed his class and challenging discussions that allowed others to participate. Overall a solid good teacher
Sarraf is a respectable teacher who has a passion for teaching unlike any professor I have ever had. H puts reason and thought behind each assignment and every grade. He wants the best for his students and most importantly he want you to LEARN. by far the most influential english class I have ever taken.
this class was really great! I learned a lot and fount it to be easy if you read. if you do that you will pass the class and be happy you took it.
Mr. Sarraf's class is pretty challenging. However, it's not impossible to pass. Sarraf does everything he can to ensure success through in-depth class discussions, readings, and his availability outside of class. If you don't go to class, you'll miss a lot. But if you show up and pay attention, you're going to learn a ton.
Mr. Satrap is a good, fun, serious teacher who seems to like teaching. While you need to actually try to pass the class(by showing up, not being late, and turning in your work) he will very willing to help you try to pass the class. He was fun to have as a teacher and made English enjoyable for me(and I hate English)
Excellent professor, always willing to help, I struggle with comprehension and he gave me useful techniques to help me with this battle I've always had. Highly recommended. I'd take Sarraff again in a heartbeat!
Just finished Sarraffs English 1A class very nice guy, we read a couple books, discussed them in class, did some free writes, he is funny and very nice to have as a teacher. Highly recommended. I'd take him again
He was easily my favorite professor I've taken. He's understanding and caring, explains things well, and keeps the class light hearted with jokes. There weren't a ton of essays assigned and only one was an in-class essay. He made coming back to campus after a 3 hour break between classes not-so-miserable & was the only class I didn't skip once.
It was a pretty easy class, but he is a tough grader. Hes a good teacher and will meet with you if you ask or swing by his office. The only way you can fail the class is not going because all papers/assignments are well explained.
His teaching style is absolutely wonderful. He has every day planned out well ahead of time and there is minimal wasted time. He clearly enjoys his job and as long as you don't slack off you'll do fine in his class. I highly recommend him to any motivated student who will keep on top of their work and attend class.
A wonderful professor that is genuine, helpful, and fair to students.
Professor Sarraf is a nice guy, but I would not recommend his class. He is the toughest essay grader I've ever had. I would spend hours of dedication on the papers he assigned and at my very best reach a C+. He gives, pop quizzes which are merely impossible to pass since they question the most irrelevant part of the readings.
Sarraf is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Every class I was excited to attend because I always learned something new. I would recommend this class to anyone (English 5) because it specifies on Middle Eastern & U.S. conflict which is a major issue today. He has personal experience teaching in Egypt and unlimited passion to teach.
Sarraf is not only a great person, he is an even better teacher. I never thought I could learn so much and also be improving my writing and argument skills. Highly recommend.
Great teacher, even better person. Highly recommend.
He was a great professor that made this semester fun and engaging. He promotes a pleasant environment with his passion for teaching, and I would highly recommend his English 5 class to anyone who wants to enjoy an exciting semester of English.
I enjoyed English up until i took his class. tough essay grader, a lot of reading, and mandatory attendance.
Professor Sarraf provided a comfortable environment to discuss important issues of our time. Also, he is very approachable and helpful, but you have to make the effort in order to do well.
Mr. Sarraf really cares about what he teaches. He also cares about how students do, but he tells the class that he can't care about it more than students do. Put in the work and you'll get a lot out of the class. Highly recommended!
Mr. Sarraf is creative in how he approaches the class, and he has a great sense of humor, making classes interesting. He'll also really helpful when you have questions about your papers.
Professor Sarraf made a hard subject for me more than bearable. Good mix of readings. Even better class discussions. Helpful whenever I had a question on my writing.
Professor Sarraf is one of the best teachers I've had at the J.C. His class is not easy and you have to work for your grade but it's worth it because you learn so much pertaining to the United States' relationship with the Middle East. This was a great critical thinking topic and I would definitely recommend taking him for English 5.
Really organized class. Good mix of assignments. Professor Sarraf really helps you out with your writing if you ask. Just make sure you go to class. Has pop quizzes.
Mr. Sarraf made class discussions comfortable by letting all opinions be heard. Really nice man. When we were doing a group activity having to do with food, he brought brownies to class!
Professor Sarraf provided a really great atmosphere so that students got to know each other. It made it easier to express what I thought about different subjects that we covered in discussions. He was also always willing to help with papers. Highly recommend!
Mr. Sarraf made classes interesting by using music and assigning readings having to do with things like uses of technology today. He seems to really enjoy teaching and has a good sense of humor. But make sure to always bring assigned reading and don't be a slacker. If you make the effort you should do well. He helps you with your work if you ask.
Very glad I took Sarraf's class. For someone who knew little of the region beforehand, this class was nothing short of enlightening. Daily participation extra credit available; read, attend class, engage, and really get into the material. You aren't just learning English, but also very important stuff about the world.
He is a great teacher really inspirational and caring. Teaches about interesting subjects and great text books to learn from. If you stay on top of your homework/reading assignments you will pass all his pop quizzes hes a hard grader but only because he wants you to strive for the best you can do. I can't wait to take eng1A with him teaching
One of the best teachers I have had so far at SRJC. I took the special focus class on the Middle East. He is really knowledgeable and cares about what he is teaching. He also really wants his students to succeed and helps them get there. Overall, it was a very enjoyable class with an amazing teacher! I would recommend this class to anyone.
Sarraf is an ok professor. I would not take him again just because of his teaching style. Be ready to participate whether you like it or not. He gives pop quizzes left and right so read the required material. And print required material. I put my all into all my essays and still came out with a B, but his feedback does really help.
Not the best the campus has to offer but he's pretty close. He's a tough grader but he's always very clear with what you did wrong so that you can fix it going forward. My problem with him is he tries to tie everything back to muslims or the middle east. I get that he has a personal connection but it often was irrelevant to the subject.
Simply the best English teacher I have ever had. He is passionate about the subject, and he wants you to do well. But you have to want to succeed.
Sarraf turned me on to a subject that I don't usually like. Creative teaching methods and lessons and funny personality. Great class!
Very positive experience in Mr. Sarraf's class this semester! Inspired me to keep going when things were rough this semester. If you really make the effort, you won't be disappointed.
Prof. Sarraf really inspires you to learn. Also, he is compassionate and wants you to do well. Really great class!
Every class was really organized. Caring teacher who is happy to help but who isn't going to baby you. If you're not ready to do work that a college class requires, you're got the wrong teacher.
He grades pretty hard for the level of class it is. The classes are very uneventful and you don't really learn anything and if you don't attend you lose participation points. However, besides the essays there isn't much homework, just reading a short passage or two from a book.
I took him for English 1A and 5. Very knowledgable. He's a tough grader, be aware for putting in all your effort for a B. Wouldn't take him again. He makes you print out at least one hundred pages each semester to read, he does pop quizzes and deducts points from your participation grade for being late. Don't be late, he'll drop you like a fly.
About the posting below, all you have to do is read the syllabus. You don't get dropped from tardiness until you're late FIFTEEN times. Try getting a job and see what happens if you keep showing up late to work. You're in college. Time to grow up, dude.
Professor Sarraf actually tells you on the first day that you're going to have to print a lot of readings, but he does that so that you don't have to pay for expensive books. My buddy had his class a while back when Sarraf used to order the books and they were not cheap. It's a lot cheaper now just to print out a bunch of stuff.
If you want to learn about really important things having to do with the U.S. and Middle East, there's nobody better than Mr. Sarraf. Just plan to be in class regularly. Don't be a slacker who just shows up whenever you want to. Grown ups only in this class. Awesome class!
Prof. Sarraf made a subject that isn't my favorite a lot more understandable. Also, really funny guy! If you're having trouble with an assignment, go see him. He's really helpful.
He will challenge you in all the best ways. He's a fair grader, puts a lot of effort into his class, and cares about his students. You will have to work, and you can't skip - but honestly, it's a high standard and a good standard, he's a great teacher and his class is worth showing up for. Definitely a teacher for real students. Would take again!
I hate English bur Mr. Sarraf made the work so easy to work through. For every reading he has some sort of in class activity that helps you stay engaged with the work, even if you hate reading. Grades easy, not much homework, and explains new topics very clearly.
Great Professor. Takes the time to know his students, i.e. their names. English has never been my best subject but for some reason, I felt this class to be quite easy. As long as you attend, participate, and turn in all assignments on time, you'll be great. You will pass. I wish I could say more but the characters are limited. Highly recommend!!:)
He showed the class example essays that were around 7 pages at least, which were pretty good, and very sophisticated. they received a C or a D! This was alarming to me because I want a fair chance of getting a good grade so I withdrew from this class and was able to get into another one, thankfully. He's a kind person that has high expectations
If you like history, then this class for you. It was far from being an English class. Everyday was a lecture on the history of the Middle East. It wasn't until halfway thru the class and before our midterm where we started learning about critical English. I had to drop this class because it was too hard and took it to learn English and not history.
The course is described in the schedule of classes as focused on U.S.-Middle East relations. Learn how to read, dude!
Johnny Sarraf is a brilliant teacher that has found a way to teach critical thinking through education about the world around us. I finally feel prepared to engage in debate about the ME. He is also very kind and brings homemade food for movie days. You have to do the (sometimes large amount of) reading and participate in class in order to succeed!
I am a straight A student who barely earned a C+.He is rude, he is inconsiderate, he is all about RULES. I sadly do not feel like I learned anything from this teacher. Poor feedback and a very demanding, time consuming class. not with the time, I wish I would have dropped it.
Very helpful feedback, but you do have to be an adult and show up.
Four essays are 80% of your grade. If you do bad you will receive a poor grade. Worked my ass off and still barely passed. Easy class but assignments are not weighted in your favor.
Super hard grader especially for the essays. Four essays in total this summer, you only read one book and it's not too long, but grades everything super harsh. I did all the extra credit, tried my hardest on my essays, and still got a poor grade.
This semester was stressful because of the wildfires and the power outages. Professor Sarraf always communicated with us, making sure that we were doing okay. Really understanding person, and did what he could to help out.
I was scared to take another online class after last semester, but this was one was really organized. Professor always answered any questions I had--and I had a lot!
I've taken classes here that felt like a high school class. Professor Sarraf approached this class like a college class. Really wants the best out of everyone and is very helpful, but you have to put in the work.
You discuss relevant issues and he lightens things up when he needs to with a funny sense of humor. Also really helpful when you see him in office hours. Hope to have him again!
Clear and totally organized. Was really helpful in his online class. Also, read the details in the modules--he's pretty funny.
Don't take this class. He doesn't teach he just assigns and expects.
It was hard taking online classes this year, but Mr. Sarraf was totally understanding and patient. We covered interesting and important subjects.
There are a lot of little assignments but they are very helpful for when it's time to do the harder assignments. The class is very organized, just do every assignment, don't miss a due date and you'll do good. He's a great professor.
Mr. Sarraf was always engaged inside and outside of class. He brings a fresh look to old topics (id read Huck Finn so many times by that class, but he made the task interesting). His focus on speakers and material that's relevant has served me well over the last decade.
Hes a cool guy
I had a difficult time in this class and it was the most stressful class of my semester. Professor Sarraf is a quick responder and gives good feedback for papers, however. Don't be afraid to reach out for help. But be prepared for long essays and meeting the word and page count.
Professor sarraf is a teacher whom has a hard time going in depth communication but might be able to lead you the right way.
If you didn't access feedback soon enough on essay 1 you didn't get any feedback for the rest of the semester. Class was discussion board heavy. Topics were socially relevant but not very broad or interesting (Phones bad? Racism bad? etc.) It was constructive though, and I felt like I learned some important skills to improve my writing.
Online course was organized clearly. Professor gives helpful feedback; it's just that he gives it in your essays, so you have to get used to accessing it.
After taking some online classes that were all over the place, it was nice having a class that was organized and where you knew what was coming up. Also, Mr. Sarraf was always good about e-mailing back. Thank you!
not hard-inconsistent and confusing
Loved Prof. Sarraf! Weekly "discussion boards," fun reading material (no books, just essays and short stories), easy quizzes. Essay topics were engaging (luckily, because the four essays combined count for 80% of your grade)
This is a hard class in that he is a tough grader and critical thinker. If you work hard and stay on course, you'll be ok. He is very present in his on-line course, and is always checking in. He offers one on one meetings and there is a lot of support that is very helpful. He is a very good teacher, and I highly recommend.
Professor gives good feedback on essays.
Really enjoyed having him as a professor. The class itself was not extremely challenging. Tests are normal along with the course work. Would definitely have him again as a professor.
I took Professor Sarraf's English 1A class in Fall 2024. He's a decent instructor who cares about his students and gives helpful feedback on most assignments. The class involves a fair amount of reading and writing. If you're looking to fulfill your English GE, he's a solid choice. In my opinion, this class felt harder than an intro class should be
Good teacher, a bit tough, but I took it in high school and I wouldn't say it was any real struggle, definitely recommend.
This course is a great way to work on critical thinking and to learn more about the Middle East than you ever thought you could do in one semester. Prof. Sarraf brings incredible life experience and background to the subjects covered. Amazing class! Incredible teacher!
Online course was really well organized and professor was really good about getting back to me when I had questions. Just don't fall behind and you'll be fine.
Great professor! His US-Middle East relations ENGL5 section and honestly changed my worldview & life. He is a clear-spoken and timely emailer who is happy to work with students. I loved his class and would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting English class. It's not super easy but it's very doable and SO interesting + meaningful.
Very understanding and overall easy course. Heavily graded on essays but you still cant miss other assignments or your grade will suffer. Overall good class
Great variety of assignments. Online class really well organized. Professor Sarraf was really good about getting back to me whenever I had a question. Great experience!
You can tell that Mr. Sarraf puts a lot of time into his class and makes it interesting. I don't normally like English classes, but this one was different. Looking forward to taking his next class!
He is an amazing teacher who wants his students to be successful! You don't just learn about writing but about important issues that we face in the world today. Highly recommended!
