Dr. Afoloyan makes it fun to go to class every day
very nice guy, put a lot of emotion into the class and he told good stories. You can tell he loves to teach this class. He keeps it interesting. He is an overall great professor.
I have never disliked a professor as much as him. He is extremely opinionated and biased. He needs to step into reality and accept people for who they are. His stories were dumb and over dramatized. I do not recommend this class.
Once you get past the way he talks he is easy to understand. He doesn't, however, explain everything the best. The class is a lot of busy work, so if you have time to outline 16 chapters of 40 pages each pick him. If not, pick a different proff.
I thought this was a horrible class. The teacher is very opinionated and won't hesitate to correct your opinion when asks for it. His lectures are never focused and he rambles about things not even related to the class.
This class is not fun. If you dont have to take this for your major dont bother. It is the same thing as in psychology.
He is a very energetic and fun professor. Teaches things you can use outside of the classroom and that don't have to do with the class. Very enjoyable.
Funny guy...good sense of humor. There's a lot of reading...but the information you learn is very valuable.

Energetic, but rambles a lot, a lot of homework, opinionated, hard to take after 10 weeks, 6 more to go.
If you like to be called "my people", and like to be told to do childish activites, than this is the class for you. I have never hated going to class this much before.
I don't know why all these people are complaining about all difficulty of the class. There is some busywork, but its really easy. For the chapter outlines, I just typed up all the main headings and then copied the glossary from the website and got full points. I'm currently getting an 'A'. Simple
I really really dislike this teacher. He is the worst I have ever had and wouldnt take him. I hate going to his class because he teaches you nothing.
Energetic, charismatic. Frankly, if students actually completed assigned readings, and could identify main points in what they read, assignments such as outlining wouldn't be necessay. We bring it on ourselves. Too bad some people have so little patience listening to non-native speakers of English.
Great Teacher I think that you can dislike him thats fine but you gotta admit he's a really easy teacher and fairly interesting
He is a very passionate man which may make some of his students uncomfortable. He cares about his students getting life lessions out of his class. Johnson makes it easy to get a good grade in his class. He's a good man.
Very passionate man. Yes, he does ramble, and really nothing that is said in class will be on the exam. Yet, I found him very inspiring.
This professor is very awesome his test are incredibly easy and he gives you bonus points for coming. If you have a chance to take this class in the summer do so it is an easy A!!!!
If you want to fall asleep and listen to man who speaks very hard to understand english.. take this class. I hate going to his class. He teaches you nothing that is on the exams and I cannot understand half of what he is saying.
If you want to sit in a class where you are treated like 4th graders this is the class for you. Watching a grown man pretend to be a baby for 3 weeks is not my idea of well spent time and money. If you can, take this class from any other professor
Dr. Afolayan is one of the best professors at MSUM. A couple of things that people fail to realize is that students, not professors, are here to learn. Spoon feeding was back in elementary school. Another is that a persons accent does not correlate to intelligence, knowledge, or experience. If OPEN-MINDED, Human Development is right for you.

speaks very poor english,acts like a baby all the time, makes you grade each others tests in class so he has less work to do. our first test was over 210 pages and we didn't even get a study sheet and had no idea what to study. half the stuff on the test we didn'teven talk about in class. if you can take this class with any other professor do it!!!
He sucks, dont take this class.. you cant understand a word hes saying.
He is passionate about teaching, however, the tests are hard with no study guide.
This professor is the advisor for the Maranatha Christians, so be aware of what views he might personally hold. He made a comment once that homosexuality is a choice or a mishap in development when clearly most people in his department would disagree with him.
i absolutely can't stand this guy. he is a complete ****, and is ALWAYS RIGHT W/HIS OWN OPINION!
Sometimes people think that it is a waste of time to go to his class because he doesn't always cover the material that you will be tested on. He is a motivating speaker, and a great guy if people would just listen. Don't worry about doing well in this class, it isn't hard at all.
He is very passionate about teaching and if you really listen to what he's saying, especially on the first day of class- you will know what and how to study for this class. He always drops huge hints in lecture as to what info (from that day) will be important to listen to. Hint hint ;)
He is an amazing teacher!! I learned more in his class than any other class I think. You do have to read your book, because he does not really cover material out of it during lecture. However his lectures are very good, he is fun to listen too! This is the best teacher I have had so far. I highly reccomend him!

This class did not really teach me anything I didn't already know. He is VERY opinionated. I don't like that he basically only tells you his opinion in class and you teach yourself the actual material...and his tests questions are weird.

Highly opinionated- he touches stuff from "real life", but many of his anecdotes are so riddiculus one can hardly take them as fact. He states incorrect info, but students can't comment on it or he feels attacked. Tests are hard, the questions are worded very strangely. Don't take this unless it's required for your major.
I really liked his teaching! His stories really tied into the content of our learning and they were heartfelt. He really enjoyed teaching, and even though attendance wasn't mandatory almost everyone showed up.

An awful class taught by an even more awful man. Seriously, too lazy to make a study guide? Simply pathetic. The guy is convinced that if we do not take this class, we will be complete failures at life. Try to remember every person and their theories and every key term. *in the book of course - he teaches you absolutely nothing* "MY BROTHER!"
It is an interesting class to say the least. He really is a good person. He truly cares for all of his students. It just seems that at times he doesn't listen to the students opinion. If you read the chapters and go to the online website for the book to study, you can do well. He is motivational and has some great stories.
If you can avoid taking this class absolutly do, it is a waste of time. He teaches nothing and just screams all the time. He is really inappropriate and won't consider any opinions but his own. He believes what he says, and some of it is really ridiculous. He seems to care for his students, but really doesn't understand today's culture.
I hated this class. He didn't talk about anything in the book and he was very subjective to his own opinions when grading the papers. He was not lenient about circumstances that prevented attendance and it is not a writing intensive course, but you do an aweful lot of writing.
This prof is crazy! He is arrogant, close-minded and impossible to tolerate. I have never heard a good thing about him from anyone who has taken his class, and unfortunately I believe he's the only one who teaches this class. BEWARE!
The class is pretty boring. He seems to mean well but is very behind the times. Thinks his opinion is the only right one. Easy grader on papers, read the book and you'll do alright on the tests. If possible take it in the summer.
He is a horrible prof! I had surgery and he did not check his e-mail or tell me what we did in class and then said it was my fault that I didn't know we had a paper due! On the exams there were 2-3 questions that the whole class got wrong and he said it was our fault! 88% as the highest test score, something is wrong with that! Do not take!!!
One of the best professors. I am always looking forward for his next class. He is very motivational and encouraging. I know some people might hate his guts, but I admire his confidence and the fact that he is so passionate about his profession. Just read the text book and attend class regularly (he gives bonus points at times).
He is a brilliant professor and I was sad to see bad comments about him. Well good person have enemies as well. But he is brilliant and No. 1 and you should take his course.
So self-assured he's delusional. Believes his word is utter and complete truth meant to makes our lives all the much better. Without his truth and guidance, our lives would be meaningless pits of doom. Listening to this guy lecture made me want to vomit.

He's an okay teacher. He's very passionate about human development, some people might think it's over the top. Most of the questions that he directs at his students aren't clear...he is usually is looking for a specific answer from the book. Gives 20pts extra credit. There's a 8-10 page paper, a reflective paper, 3 tests, & 3 notebook checks
I dreaded the class at first, but as time went on I got used to it and him. He is a great professor, very passionate about what he teaches. Lots of bonus points, so attend class regularly!
He taught my human development class. Even after I got used to his thick accent, I still had no clue what he was talking about. I hated being put on the spot to answer questions because no matter what you say, you're wrong. Him imitating a baby cry and things like that were awkward and embarrassing class moments. I hated going to class.

He is awkward, hard to understand, and puts students on the spot. If you don't give him the exact answer he is looking for then you're wrong. If you have a legit excuse for missing a class where there was a 10 pt paper to be written he could care less. But he has lots of extra credit and its an overall easy class.
Often goes on lengthy, impassioned rants during class. After awhile I hated going to the class, but as long as you study the book and are able to BS writing papers, you'll be fine. Be sure to bring your book to every class or he'll freak out on you.
positives: easy A class, 25 bonus pts, prof is passionate about his class. negatives: prof puts ppl on the spot, gives the "spoon feeding" speech if you ask questions so dont even bother, very full of himself, everyone hated going to class by the end of the semester. .
He looks for in class participation, but no matter what you say its wrong, unless it is word for word what he is looking for. Likes to call people out. Besides that, the class was enjoyable. EASY grader and tests. The 2 ten page papers are a cinch. I wouldn't suggest the class to people who are not required to take it. Hard to understand at times.
I really loved this class. In my four years of college he is the most passionate teacher I've ever had. Come to class and do the notes and easy papers and you'll pass with no problem. I hate college but I loved this class! I suggest you take this class because once you get to know him the class becomes fun and is essentially an easy A!
He is insane. He makes you feel stupid of you answer a question wrong. He's hard to understand cuz he has a strong African accent. He basically reads off the books definitions. His tests are confusing. And his papers are stupid that he assigns and if you don't understand he won't explain.. Too bad he's the only prof for this class
Hard to understand. Be careful on how you answer his questions... This should be a writing intensive course because of how many papers you have to write on top of 16 chapters of notes that you have to show to him in class. Take only if you have to, otherwise find a different class to take!
Dont really understand why some people are ripping on him, he is not hard to understand really, he teaches the material in a way you will understand, and provides help for papers. Class is not hard at all, if you attend class almost everytime and do the required work you're guarenteed a B, also he is an easy grader on the papers.
Dr. Afolayan is one of my favorite professors. He is extremely passionate about teaching Human Development. A good prerequisite is to make African friends so that you can understand what he is saying. He is not difficult to understand at all. The papers we had to write were easy. I eagerly participated in class and ended up with an A. Don't be shy.
Nice guy. Tended to be unclear of his expectations of the class and the upcoming assignments. Very excited about what he is teaching. Go to class and study from the book. Notes he gives in class come right from the back of each chapter reading assignment.

Easy class, but do not listen to him. Study the vocab in the texts and you'll be okay. He is opinionated and calls on people during class for their opinions, if they do not match his, then you are wrong. He also makes life promises to you that he has no right to. If you ask him questions after class he will make you feel stupid for asking.
Dr. Afolayan was my favorite professor this semester. He's not hard to understand. He's always passionate about all the things he talks about in class. He's full of energy. Yes, he does randomly call on people. Very scary at first but you get use to afterwards. I suggest anyone to take this course. Study the vocab in the book!! goodluck !

He is stuck in his ways and can't take any criticism without feeling attacked. Will make students cry and leave class on a regular basis. I do not recommend him at all.
He makes such an interesting class so boring, confusing, and terrible. He is a terrible professor. Attendance is mandatory if you want it to help your grade in the end. I had a B after the final. Asked if my attendance would help me get an A and he said it wouldn't. I had gotten an A once grades were posted. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Get ready for a lot of work in this class and taking notes for two chapters each week, chapters that are 40 pages long each. Required to take notes on each chapter and are graded on notes before the test. Very confusing, and does not understand 50% of people's questions. Tests aren't very hard. Be sure you read syllabus. Hated this class..
He is a very passionate man, and a great educator. At first, he was really hard to understand with his heavy accent but I got used to it. There is a lot of work in the class. You must read the book and take notes because he checks your notes every few weeks. If you read, you will pass.
Very interesting class. If you took psychology 101, the content is pretty much the same. He is a super nice man and means well. He is hard to understand sometimes but if you do all the busy work like read the book and come to class you will get an A.

Dr. Afolayan is extremely passionate about human development, and it shows in his teaching. He is entertaining, and loves his job. Very helpful when asking questions. On the tests some questions are worded a little strangely, so clarity is a bit of any issue, other than that, totally enjoyable class! Study for the exams, read the text, and succeed!
Dr. Afolayan truly wants all of his students to succeed in life, he is very inspirational. If you read the chapters and take notes (they are very long), easy A. Go to class as much as possible he hints at whats on the test. EASY grader. Reading will take place of homeworkstudying. Horrible communication with students though. Would recommend.
Johnson is a very inspirational man who loves the subject of Human Dev. However the whole class felt like a repeat of Bio 100 but with less material. The tests weren't too bad and all you have to do is show up. You basically read to each other in class form the book so it feels pointless to read on your own. Take notes he grades them.

This was by far the worst class i have ever taken. He was demeaning and rude to students (actually yelled at a student and announced his poor grade to the class ). Talked in unclear circles when answering questions. All you do in the class is read your required notes and he might interrupt to add something. The only good thing is the tests are easy
He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He basically has the student do the lecture on the notes you took the night before. If you don't answer the question the way he wants it then its wrong even if you were technically right. Argues with students and just moves on and ignores you when you prove him wrong. Very rude guy and also hard to understand. He makes fun of students and makes it seem that the book is always wrong even when we are required to read it. All you do is read the book outside of class. 10 page research paper is also required.
By far the worst professor I have taken a class from. You read the book, then go to class discuss what you are going to read, read your assigned section to the class, and he interrupts you and then reiterates what you just said. He is demeaning and rude and causes students to feel stupid for not knowing things. Research paper involved-8-10 pages.

Professor Afoloyan might be a little hard to deal with at first but in the end, he wants all his students to succeed. You have to write a few paragraphs of notes from the book which will be graded easily, so will attendance. Other than that, 8-10 page paper and about 4 exams (multiple choices that usually cover 3-5 chapters).
He is quite the character. Be ready to be entertained and to get some new life quotes. He is very passionate about his class, but he sometimes goes off on very far tangents (with very colorful stories). You will learn a lot, but there is A LOT of reading (and its pretty rough to get through). His class is an easy A if you do your reading and study.
He loves what he does and his lectures are very passionate! You MUST read the textbook because all the exam questions are from the textbooks. There is one paper you will write. There are easy points you can earn from attendance and notes that will help bump up your grade!

Do not take any class with this man. He is sexist and down right rude. All he does is talks through his lectures and rambles about random things, and when he asks you a question he will look at you like you are dumb and make a noise. He is a horrible teacher. Tests are hard because you have to find out the answer he wants not the right answer
