Worst class I've taken since attending UNT instructor not helpful at all.
I made an A in the class so I'm not too upset, but he was pretty rude in feedback and correspondence, and this class was much harder than any online class I've taken in the business department solely because of how tough he graded assignments. Quizzes were easy and tests were fairly hard. I wouldn't personally take him again, but he wasn't awful
worst class ever, please do not take him
Dr. Varghese is a really great guy. Yes, there is a lot of preparation for the course in regards to textbook reading (there are pop quizzes) however - this is to be expected with a senior level class, and there is never more than a chapter to read at a time. He usually gives you warnings when to be prepared. He's very nice, knowledgeable, and funny
Dr. Varghese was a great professor, not sure where these other reviewers are coming from. Yes there were assignments and you had to put in effort, but he was a very reasonable and fair guy. I thought Dr. Varghese did alot to make the class interesting and make all assignments easy to understand.
Professor Varghese is a new teacher and is trying to get his stride, so some things are off but he is somewhat open to suggestions on improvement. There are very interesting topics you discuss in class. You have to write a couple of papers and there are pop quizzes over the reading material. Grading is fair, he just wants to see effort.
Tests are extremely difficult. Lectures are hard to follow. Gives assigned seating and the. Switches it mid semester.
This professor sucks. Please beware that he will not give you clear instructions, specially on projects. If you're not a Business Major, do NOT take him. He really sucks. He expects a lot with minimal instructions. Also, he is very rude. A couple of classmates emailed the admin coordinator because he is that bad. Especially for an online class.
Worst professor I've ever had. He is an awful professor, grades insanely harshly while giving essentially zero constructive feedback. He is also extremely rude and used the word "garbage" to describe student work. Awful. Tests are easy, but even though I made A's on every test, a group project has made it impossible to get an A. Literally the worst
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this Prof. He does not care for his students and the way he communicates with us is not professional or respectful at all. I honestly feel like taking him was such a waste of money and time because he did not teach us ANYTHING. There were only tests & a project in his class so its difficult to get an A.
Don't take this professor. it is impossible to make an A on his class. he does not tell you he wants on the assignments but he expects a professional work. this class is weird, I did not learn anything. very tough grader. he doesn't care about students, Don't take this professor.
he called our projects "garbage", sending angry emails
Mr. Varghese is not a typical professor. He shoots straight and expects more than most I've had in the past, but the class isn't too bad. He can come off rude at times. Lots of salty slackers for sure, so don't take his class if you want to only do the care minimum. Take an easier professor.
very Tough Grader. you can google the exam questions. do yourself a favor and look for a different professor.
I made an A! Tests are easy, so if you ace those, you have more wiggle room for assignment grades.
Dr. Varghese was definitely a tough professor. I took an online class from him and it was probably the hardest one I've taken. I wouldn't say he's a bad professor, he's just straightforward and expects a lot. I do think he cares about his students and that's why he pushes them. But remind yourself, if you're kind of lazy, don't take him.
Pop quizzes. Have to get to class on time. He is strict about following the syllabus.
His lectures cover nothing you will be tested on. Class is extremely boring. Worst professor Ive had at UNT. Do yourself a favor & dont take.
An exceptional professor who truly cares about his students. He is such a resource in and out of the classroom and is available in his office to talk about school and the industry. There are a few case assignments, but majority of the final grade is based on 4 tests. There is a comprehensive final, but it's used to bail out lowest test grade.
He probably cares about his students more than any prof I've ever had. Show up to class and he gives you the material to pass. The class has some homework which is easy, the tests are not easy but fair. A lot of test questions require you to read carefully and ask you to identify an example that matches a concept.
He seems to care about job placement more than any profs I've had so far... He really stresses "after college" a bunch, which I guess is good but it gets a bit annoying. Like, just tell me what's on the test and let's go to lunch already
Probably one of the most annoying things about him is he refuses to say what he really wants to say. He masks it in pretty politically correct packages, but I have to admit he does legitimately care about students and their future lives. Had to listen to his 10 minute soap box today, but then he told us what is going to be on the next test.. so 5
He basically gives the answers to the essay questions the week of the exam. Passionate teacher. Easy class.
He dry funny too if you really listen.
Great at explaining things; Relatively little homework; Clear expectations.
He started out the semester with one approach to classroom time. Then, midway through the semester switched it up based on our feedback. One of the few professors I've had that actually listens to students and enjoys having an intellectual dialogue with students. He was also willing to meet outside of class to go over missed exam questions.
Professor Varghese presents a healthy dose of reality and idealism. Honest Open Tough grader
Wow. He's bipolar. I swear he was two different people. It's like midway through the semester, he just flipped. Basically started giving great lectures and details about essay questions before exams.
I didn't come to class the majority of the semester except on test days and I passed the class by the hair on my chinny chin chin. I'm almost positive he dropped an additional quiz grade for the whole class just to pass me.
Most of it has been said. You have to REALLY work for your grade, but it is so worth it in the end. Do NOT slack off, or you will fail! Im pretty sure his class gave me premature grey hair (I have the pictures to prove it LOL... seriously). But on a more serious note, this is the kind of class that shapes & prepares you for future success.
Unwilling to give clear instructions before he grades. Claims his syllabus is not perfect, but grade like it is. Grading scale and rubric unavailable to what he actually wants. Does not compromise or listen to reasoning. He could careless about his students. Quiz question are very unclear and left everyone confused with low grades. Dont be fooled.
Textbook was very required from the first week, and you will not pass without it. Discussion posts required a lot of thought, but they were very interesting! He is a TOUGH grader!
He answered questions and gave constructive feedback when I scheduled a conference call with him. He was interested in my future career goals and his advice was helpful to editing my resume. For the class, he is a tough grader as others have noted, but his instructions were fine to me. If I had specific questions, he emailed back quickly.
Excuse my friend, Cici. She failed all the tests miserably, so she trying to blame the prof for low discussion post grade which is only 2% of the overall grade. She wild. His instructions were fine. He is a tough grader, but most of the grades are based on tests and quizzes which are objective. The only subjective grades total around 6-7% overall.
This class ain't easy. Half ass effort gets a half ass grade. I'm a better writer than I was 3 months ago. Sucks it took me this long to understand what active voice, but I still lack "professional voice".
Professor best nice. Work with my language difficult and gave whole class extra time for exam.
Professor Varghese was definitely a tough professor. I took an online class from him and it was probably the most meaningful one I've taken. He's straightforward and expects a lot. He cares about his students and that's why he pushes them. But remind yourself, if you're lazy, don't take him.
Meaningful assignments made me think about my future career. Also, helped me network with people that work in the industry I'm hoping to enter. Great guy all around.
Easy A
Follow the syllabus, complete work on time. He's organized.
Well organized, quick responses
This guy is GREAT! He's very clear about what he wants on assignments and projects and just has a really good, positive energy. I hope I get the chance to take a class with him again in person and if the opportunity presents itself, TAKE HIS CLASS! You won't regret it.
He is no nonsense. You have to pay attention to announcements and complete quizzes weekly. He understands schedules for online students are different, so I think that is why he leaves quizzes and exams windows open longer than most professors. If you log in at least 3 times per week and spend about 7 hours per week, it's an easy A. Lots of reading.
He responded quickly and the class followed the syllabus week by week. Great for online class because he had generous windows for assignments and gave weekly reminders via announcements.
He is really quick to respond to emails compared to my other professors. He is also understanding and made small changes at the end of the semester that helped me out. His class is really well organized and it's easy to follow his style of presenting the material on Canvas. Even though he has other things worked in, reading textbook is essential.
Dr. Johnson Varghese is without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He cares about his student and wears nice attire (specifically the shoes). His instructions are clear and he is very helpful. He is the man.
Johnson Varghese is an awful instructor. Like many of his UNT coworkers, he is in desperate need of training on how to teach. I would have dropped his class the first week of the semester if it wasn't required. I cannot wait until his class ends.
Awful teaching style online. His quizzes are timed 10 minutes with one try. The quizzes have little to no correlation with the questions he asks. He attempts to make rather simple concepts drawn out by fluff wording. Do not recommend at all.
The reading materials are quite useless when taking the quizzes. You have 10 minutes to answer 7 questions which correlate in no way to the module lessons. The questions are worded in a way that makes it extremely hard to understand and answer. Do NOT take this professor
Awful teaching skills! Quizzes are not easy and do not match the reading material!
He is a great professor. He is willing to meet with you via zoom as an online student. It is helpful when you need extra help. My biggest complaint is that we have a respondus lockdown browser for the final. The quizzes should be treated as if they are closed book when you're studying. Even open book, they are difficult if you're not prepared.
cases that make you think outside the box. I appreciated the material and videos related to course. Solid professor who challenged me to be better note taker and writer.
Lots of reading even though there is no formal text book. Quizzes are hard but he curved the first two. You have to do more work studying for this class than most, but the topics are interesting.
Johnson Varghese is an amazing instructor. Like many of his UNT coworkers, he is a great example of how to teach. I would have taken his class the first semester if I had time. I cannot wait to take another course with him.
Mr. Varghese was a good professor.
He's a nice teacher, and he gives good life advice.
He's taught me many valuable lessons and taught me accounting more in depth.
I enjoy my time with this professor a lot.
Dr.Varghese is an amazing teacher and is helpful whenever I have any questions during or after class.
Good teacher good class
he is funny and cool.
He's awesome, funny, and charismatic.
Great professor, very dedicated to ensuring the education of his students.
Dr. Varghese is my favorite professor of all time. Made lectures interactive and enjoyable to sit and listen to.
very funny, very entertaining, straight to the point
makes class very engaging
Dr. Varghese was a crazy good professor highly recommend him!
Mr. Varghese is a very straight forward teacher. His teaching style really allowed me to bring my best self to the table. This course does require a lot of independent study but I believe this is why I was able to learn so much.
This professor is very attentive. He always looks out for the students. The quizzes are easy if you study. 10 Minutes is plenty of time for a quiz.
his class was good and fun
Dr. Varghese is an amazing professor! He makes his lectures really funny, and he's a really lighthearted person. He takes pride in making his students feel appreciated and welcome.
Amazing teacher.
He's by far the worst instructor I've had at UNT. I noticed that one of the reviews said Mr. Varghese is funny and inspirational. Although his teaching style is a complete joke, the only thing he inspired me to do is drink. I can't wait until this class ends.
I'm my experience Dr. Varghese responded quickly, took time to meet and gave me helpful tips to do well.
His class was well organized and he is quick to adapt and respond to student needs.
Class is challenging and requires more effort than other courses, but the professor was available to chat. He gave good advice on how to approach the assignments.
There is lots of reading in this class. Even though there is no textbook, there is so much reading.
Great experience. Learned a great deal about ethical theories.
Professor Varghese has high expectations for writing, but provided specific feedback and met with me to discuss.
Graduate ethics class online was as expected. Get ready to read and review material closely to advance.
His online class was phenomenal. Sign up for this instructor like free Taylor Swift tickets!
He's by far the most invested instructor I've had at UNT. I noticed that one of the reviews said Mr. Varghese is funny and inspirational. His teaching style is an inspiration. He inspired me to be a better grad student. I can't wait to take another course with him.
Few assignments. Mainly quizzes and tests.
This class was way more difficult than I expected or think it needed to be. short timed quizzes that were not easy. Webcam tests that were difficult and professor did not provide help on how to study. No reviews and only vague study guide. Discussion video posts saved my grade. I wish professor was involved and wanted to help.
