best math teacher ever!!!!
I got a B in the class and I still didn't quit understand everything...Me and my friends just copyed off each other, Stuck up teacher, a lot of people in the class felt he made us feel stupid, but saying "its soo easy" No extra credit.
He is a nice & patient teacher. He takes time answering all of the students questions. All homeworks are due the day of final exam which is good! The reason why there is no extra credit is that he gives more points in the exams. He would give us credits for just trying to solve the test problems. I highly recommend him!!!!

best Math teacher I have ever had I took him for all my math classes at COS
Quite trivial really. This class is a BLAST!!!!
Its SOOO Easy!!! *barf*
Worst math teachers I ever had! :(
Sarcastic, strict on attendance, bad teacher... no fun
Jon was great. Eventhough I wasn't a motivated student, he still made the class fun to attend with his stellar sense of humor. I would recommend this class to anyone.
He's ok, I just took the class at 6 am and so it was hard to make it, if you do the work you'll pass, but it's a lot of work and so don't lag on it. He's just not very clear while teaching so be sure to study a little more.
great teacher. taught my math class really well. homework everynight...but how else are you supposed to learn lame math? if you ask for help, he would help. i would take him again if i could.
VERY FUN TEACHER..BREAKS THINGS DOWN SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND. MAKES MATH FUN
He's a great teacher who has taken the time to go through all the rules of math and condensed them so that they make sense and are useful for future math problems. As opposed to other instructors who teach how they were taught and don't care if they are understood or not.
good teacher and explians the lesson good
good teacher!
Blakely is a fantastic teacher. He gives you the material hard and fast, but he teaches the material in a clear and concise manner. If you want to learn the subject, this is your man.
he does his homework before giving you yours. he is pretty thourough and concice.he tries to give you the best way to go at it with your problems ..in a way you can make the least errors
One word 2 explain his class...Sweet. One of the best Math teachers @ COS. His lectures are concise, organized,& beneficial. I had him 4 Mth200 earned an A n that class too. I got A's on all 5 exams that I didn't have to take the final. Yep, he's that good. I had tried to take this class 4x before & couldn't get pass a D. U must have him as a teach
Mr Blakely is a pretty good teacher, not the best ever but definitely not the worst. He's very sarcastic, which is funny sometimes and uncomfortable at others. He does a good job going over the material and answers homework questions very well. His tests don't have too many surprises on them even though he talks like they will.
Sweet
Mr. blakely is really hottt. =) he is reasonable and fair...
Mr. Blakely is a very good math teacher. He is organized and prepared and definitely knows his stuff. If you struggle with math, take him!
Mr. Blakely is one of the hottest!!!! math teachers I have ever had. Now, about his teaching style...He is very good at what he does.
Very good teacher, he organizes things and prepares to the class. As long as you keep staying with him you will be fine at last. don't be deceived by his altitude sometimes, he is a good person.
he was funny and a good person. he talked about how his lower level classes were easier and he gave them review sheets and whatnot. i had him for calc 1 and it was soo hard! tests were extremely hard- study all the tricks!
Willing to help. Actually explains properties. Assigns a lot of hw but is all due at the end of the semseter.
I have taken Mr. Blakely for two semesters now and have been very impressed. I haven't taken a math class in almost 15 years but Mr. Blakely makes it very clear and understandable. If you can't pass an algebra class with Mr. Blakely, it's possible you just can't pass algebra!
Mr. Blakely is a very good instructor, very passionate about the subject and he does care about whether his students are learning the material well or need extra help. His test aver very, very hard, his final not so much. Oh BTW... HE IS INCREDIBLY GORGEOUS!!! VERY, VERY HOT!!!!
He is a great Math teacher!! I'm horrible at Math and I got a "B" He is funny and sweet and super hot!!
Greatest teacher ever. I good person to know. Also, he wrote his own textbook so that students need not fork out 100 bones for text.
HORRIBLE I barely understood anything, and when I would try to ask a question or make a statement he would insult me and rarely answer the question clearly. NEVER TAKE THIS PERSON unless you like being insulted or hearing **** jokes (the **** jokes were few and far between...but still there).
I took this class two times before Blakely and failed them but i happened to pass his class with an A+. He is a doll
Great teacher. Had him for Calc 1 and he was a fair and honest teacher. Tests were decent but never on material that wasn't covered. If you do the homework, go to MESA and tutoring, ask him questions in his office, you will pass the class. You can't really escape the proofs on the test, but they're fairly easy to memorize. Take BLAKELY!
He is always making sarcastic comments. When you ask a question he belittles you in front of the class. Assumes all students aren't responsible. If you don't understand the material and ask a question, answers with sarcastic comments. He is fast paced and doesn't explain step by step the process. When you ask him to clarify seems to be rushed.
He is not HOT and he is very arrogant on how he is great in Math. He assumes we are not since we are in this intermediate Algebra class. Makes sarcastic comments and puts you on the spot. He judges and assumes too much.
Great instructor, very down to earth. Teaches very vividly, questions are always welcome; answers are clear. I'd highly recommend him in all honestly, and would bouch for him any time.
this was the 2nd consecutive math class i took that mr. blakely taught, he was a good instructor in both classes. hope i take him for math021 (stats). i'd recommend him.
Best math teacher I have had! One class that I didn't mind taking at six in the morning! Just keep up on homework and use the study guides and you will pass!!
He seems to pretend he is an elementary school teacher. Just ignore that part, it actually helps in a VERY clarifying way. Pass this instructor if you are no good at test taking and lag at homework or you will have no chance to pass. The tests are longer to finish than the time he gives you and the homework is due at the end of semester.
Best Math teacher I've had. Funny personality too.
i had mmr blakely for both math 200 and math 230 he is a wonderful teacher, but he doesint collect homework at the end of semester he collects it every test now. He only uses the book for homework and word problems, and he has a great sense of humor. he also gives out study guides a week before the test that are almost similar to the real test
He is a great teacher. I had gaps from having really bad teachers. He cleared everything up. He is very clear and has a great sense of humor. Take his class if you can!
Awesome teacher! Just do the homework, go to the math lab, and do the study guides. Loved the sense of humor.
A lot of homework!!! The test are pretty damn hard too! He's awkwardly funny.
Really funny! I really enjoyed his class. It isn't a hard class as long as you show up every day and do the homework.
really funny and very easy. Take good notes and you'll be fine. Explains everything step by step. I looked forward to his class everyday
He'll pick on you, but If you like humor mixed with math, then you'll love him! Enjoyed his positive energy and he teaches you like if you don't know how to count. Great clarity, fantastic teaching pace. Only bad thing is he writes really small on the board. Sit in the front & you'll be fine. TeamBlakely!
Great professor. I've never been a good math student but he made it easy to understand the material. Although if you are one to skip class or ignore homework, he is not the teacher for you.
Does not give enough help. Hard to understand. Creates his own textbook and some of the answers in the back of the book are wrong. Gives LOTS of homework and is due the day of each test. Tests are hard.
Nice guy but rushes through it
This is the second time I've taken Blakely and I still think he's a fantastic math teacher. He strives to make his lessons clear for students and answers questions whenever they're asked. For his 230 class he uses his own online textbook, so you save some money taking him too. I highly recommend him to anyone planning to take a math class.
In my opinion he is a good teacher. His class is not for feeling learners, he does't really care about personal connections. He doesn't take role. You will have homework pretty much every day. A study guide. Reasonable tests. He makes the rules on his classroom. He is very clear, and helpful is you talk to him one on one!
He is probably the best teacher for math. I did really bad at math in middle through high school. But I ended up taking him for 3 semesters and passed with an easy B. A lot of people don't pass him because they expect an easy A. Do all the homework / math lab, and you'll pass with a C just from that.
I loved his class! I had math 230 last year and did not pass because the teacher did not know what he was doing. After I took Blake;y I understood everything. Very clear on what to do and will spend a day on just homework if need be
He's a great teacher, he's very thorough and clear. I've never had a math teacher whose explained everything so well.
Teacher is good, however taking questions are only answer from the prior day homework assignments and the his way is the only he accepts his work. However his way is mostly the most easier way to learn math230
Great professor overall. Makes lecture very understandable as well as relatable as he can make algebra with everyday life scenerios. Likes to joke, however attendance and homework are the key points in his class in order to pass. You don't show up and you'll find it very difficult to pass the course.
Blakely is a good professor. Yes he is sarcastic, so if you're sensitive don't bother taking him. He does give a lot of homework, but it helps you on the exams. Use the resources that are given to you! Go to the math lab and he gives you extra credit. For the students who really want to learn, I recommend taking him. I have become a better student.
I took mr. blakely for math 230 and loved him! He was such a great teacher he really helped with being clear about what he was teaching! Although his test and final are hard if you attend class and do your homework you should be fine. Also, his book is online and free to his students!
He is a great teacher! His lectures are clear, grading is amazing and test are reasonable. I am horrible when it comes to math and I actually got a B. Oh, and he gives extra credit, just go to the MathLab on Campus! There is no textbook, he gives you the URL where the text book is for FREE (he made it)
Would never take Mr. Blakely again! I was sacred to even ask for his help. if you want a social life don't take him unless you want a million questions of homework each night, and yea the book is free but not worth it if you don't understand what he teaches. So if you want to pass math and have a social life and be sane by the end don't take him!
Great teacher, plan on taking him for 230 next semester book, he created his own it's free, pros, it's free. Cons, there are limited examples if you're working on homework on the weekends homework, lots of it... the next day I'm class he goes over any questions extra credit, go to the math lab! So worth it!
Pros: good teacher, book is free, extra credit for math lab. Cons: test are tough and final is worth ALOT of points!! He doesn't take role, but if you miss a class it is easy to get behind!
he is an amazing professor! I would love to take him again if he taught stats. Very clear and helpful. He is funny and when he lectures he is very entertaining.
Not an awesome class. I actually failed this class with blackly there was homework every single day and it was not easy. expect to be spending sometime in the math lab if math isn't your thing.
I had Mr. Blakely for my math 230 class and he is the best math teacher Ive had. He provides his own textbook online thats very easy to understand compared to most math textbooks. LOTS OF HOMEWORK, but very helpful for test. He also grades test by the work shown, so if you miss the answer he sees you only made a small mistake he wont ding you.
I am average at math, understood it but never had good teachers to get me higher than a C. I have never understood math so clearly. Yes, it's homework every night and a lot of it but IT DOES WONDERS! The first key to getting a B or an A is to go to the math lab! Every 2 hours is 1 extra credit point on the test! He's so fun and so organized! Go!
Mr. Blakely is an amazing professor! He makes everything so easy to understand. There is homework almost every night, but he doesn't collect the homework until the day of the test. Go to the math lab for easy extra credit! He doesn't take attendance, but if you miss class, you'll miss alot of information. Also, he's hilarious! Class is always fun.
I am so upset to be writing about him in a negative way, but after a second semester in algebra 2, Blakely was being very difficult. He gives you heavy loads of homework which I was okay with, but the test were the worst things in that class. I absolutely hated that class, would not recommend to take him again.
One of my favorite professors!! Makes classes understanding and is willing to help you whenever. Also works with athletic schedules! Highly recommend! :)
He is very sarcastic and funny during lectures. Is willing to help. Gives extra credit. Textbook is online and free.
I've always struggled with math but after taking Blakely's class, math has gotten easier for me. He does give a lot of homework but doing the homework will help you when it comes to the tests. He gives you extra credit just for doing your homework in the the math lab, which helps out in the end come grade time.
I took his algebra 2/math 230 class online. It's not a hard class. As a teacher he was very easy to communicate with and he was very nice. I would definitely take another class of his!
He was really cool and nice. We didn't have much interaction time but he's very approachable and helpful. Sarcastic sometimes but in a good way so it's fine. Very clear on how you were graded and when tests were. Made sure to encourage us as students to utilize the resources accessible to us by the school.
He is one of the best teachers at COS. He really works with your schedule, I am an athlete outside of COS, and he was very understanding. Super funny! I wish he would teach high math classes. If you take him, he will recognize you on campus and say hi, which is really nice.
Great teacher!! He's funny and teaches the material really well. He's willing to help out if you need it. And he offers extra credit and if you dont use it thats your own fault. I enjoyed the class even though I hate Math!
One of my favorite professors. Textbook is online and you don't have to pay for it. He truly does want everyone to pass and do well. Highly highly recommend this professor!
If you are taking Math 230, I highly recommend taking Blakey. I have always hated math, and Blakey made me love math. It was the way he taught things that made me really understand. If you show up, and ask questions when you dont understand, this class will be an easy A. He has amazing lectures, hes very funny and I respect him very much.
hands down, best teacher I have ever had. i absolutely dislike math with a passion, but he explained everything one by one. textbook is online and free. he is a very funny guy, and keeps his lectures interesting. Always was laughing in this class.
I am a visual learner, & math is NOT my best subject. Mr. Blakely is an incredible teacher and really taught the class how to understand each concept. He is patient and cares about his students' grades in the class. You get extra credit opportunities, and going to the math lab really makes a difference. The homework really is practice for the test!
Super easy class, do you work pass the class, Does not take role
He's had his own website so that means we dont have to buy a book. He explains everything correctly and turns you from hating math to loving it at the end. Also very good looking and funny teacher I will recommend him to my fellow friends.
Mr Blakley is good teacher especially being more specific when some problems we don't understand well. He doesn't take attendance but it is our responsibility as student to come his class whenever we can because you'll never know what are most important.
I have never taken a Math Class where I have not gotten a A- or higher, and this is the first class that has destroyed that. I am very good at math, but I feel that Blakely just didn't explain things very well and in my class I had people who had already taken the class before so they would always answer and leave the rest of us in the dust.
When it comes to his class (Calculus 1), many of the students there already had some kind of introduction with this material. Therefore, it felt as if this class was guided to their needs. In addition, he wasn't a bad professor, but he just wasn't the correct one for me. Also this class is very proof heavy (prove the product rule and etc.).
So, this guy is just really a jerk. The class was online using MyLab so the only interaction with him was orientation, midterm, and final. The two times that I emailed with a question, he seemed really put out. Glad the class was online and I didn't have to see the dude on the weekly. There are tons of good math teachers at COS, just not him.
Professor Blakely is very good at what he does, and he truly cares about his students (and athletes). He is always willing to go the extra mile to help out, and he can usually make you laugh too! Math isnt my favorite subject, but he definitely made it more enjoyable. He even helped tutor me for a different stats class, which was much appreciated
I honestly don't know the man. The guy just wasn't there (there weren't even optional zoom meetings). I really struggled to do well in this class, and it felt like I didn't have a teacher. However, I'm giving him 3 stars because he is a reasonable person who is willing the change BS grades, and I've also heard that he's a great in-person professor.
It amazes me when people rate Prof. Blakely poor. He is by far one of the best math instructor at COS. I got D in my previous math class and I never liked math but he made me love math. He is a great instructor with so much respect, just do the home work and study which is what a serious student should do. I strongly recommend this instructor.
This professor was cool when you emailed him, but outside of that, he was nowhere to be found. To be fair, this class was going on during COVID-19, which forced instructors to go online, but Prof. Blakely did not give us anything other than the textbook, 1990s era lectures dug deep within the textbook, and an encouraging message every now and then.
This professor was okay when you emailed him, but outside of that, he was nowhere to be found. This teacher tries to teach too many lessons in such a short amount of time. I was a person who excelled in Math and with this class, I felt like a failure. No one in my class was passing the tests or even understanding the concepts he taught. He was too fast-paced and skipped over steps alot. I was stressing out a lot/ had to drop/ change majors.
This was a refresher course for me. The professor encourages studying + tutoring for those with weak math skills. He didn't interact with anyone very much unless it was to remind us of upcoming assignments and big exams. Straightforward, automatic grading (MyMathLab). Very polite and did make himself open to communication. A chill dude overall :)
Doesn't offer much help when it comes to the mid-term or final. He does respond but is not very detailed or offers any good feedback, would like to see him being more active with his class. I suck at Math and I tried my absolute hardest when it came to pass it but it didn't happen.
Overall he's a great professor. I was in a morning class so everyone was quiet but he always tried to lighten the mood and make us laugh. He does expect you to know things so he can get pretty quick when explaining the math. He doesn't take attendance but I advise to go because you'd miss a lot in just one lecture. Test are also easy which is great
I have no idea what happened this summer with stats. It was tough, and there was so much homework to keep up with. I learned close to nothing trying to keep up with the aggressive workload. The teacher was excellent; however, the MathLab course didn't help me understand anything. Weigh your options before doing this.
Jon Blakely is one of the best professors at COS. In fact, I would even say he's one of the only three math professors with standards. He has a very unique personality and reminds me of my father. Talks about his successful son a lot, so he must be a great guy if he's able to raise such a goated human.
I would not recommend skipping even a single class, I attended every lesson and still had to spend a lot of time outside of class learning the material. He is very upfront about this being a difficult course, and that you should get help. My only complaint is that his handwriting is terrible, and I had to take notes from what he said.
All I have to say is you should take his class if you want to learn. If you just want an easy A and learn nothing, then take someone else.
Calc 1 is tough. So be ready to work hard but learn a lot. If you are a stem major and want to be put in a position to be actually prepped for what's coming in your classes, then this is your guy.
If you can't pass this class then you probably don't deserve a college degree. He gives you the questions and answers for every test. So just do the work and you pass.
Easy class. Light work.
The professor keeps the class lively and makes an effort to connect with students. Lectures move quickly, so attending is crucial. unstuck study was a great supplemental resource for test prep.
I had Blakely for an online intro to stats class during the spring and he was an excellent professor. He gave clear feedback and he obviously wanted his students to succeed. I'm sure he was an even better professor in person, and he allows the use of the StatCrunch statistics calculator, which makes the class way easier.
He's a really good, entertaining professor. He provides study guides for the tests that contain the exam questions (do them!), making them practically impossible to fail. At the start of class, he allots time to go over homework and study guide questions. His handwriting is a bit messy, though, so I wouldn't recommend sitting far from the board.
Very flexible outside of his work hours. Made time to get back to my emails promptly.
Makes a lot, a lot of jokes. Math can be boring but he makes it a little more bearable. There is a total of 5 exams, 5 homework packets, and 1 final so be sure to try your best on each as there is such little opportunity to up your grade. Tests are fairly straightforward, being mindful of small details will greatly benefit you.
Chill, knows what he's doing overall good
