Prof. Boyle is super, super cool--he worked for NASA for awhile, was offered a job at Harvard, but chose to teach for us. He's an AMAZING teacher, super super funny and explains things in ways that help even the slowest person understand them. Make SURE to buy the textbook, though, because he uses it a LOT. He's the best, I would take him again!
Dr. Jon Boyle is an exemplary professor, through and through. His personality is larger than life, and when he teaches, youre bound to remember something. Dr. Boyle is the best, plain and simple. Read your book, ask questions, and share laughs. Hell care if you care, remember that. He balances fun and knowledge like the avatar. Dont Chicken out!
best professor out there! he is truly a gem! dont think youll get off easy he makes you work for the grade but he has an amazing style of teaching and youll have a good laugh! rather than just making sure you know the information for the test then forgetting it you will actually learn and remember the information. phenomenal teacher. MUST TAKE!
Dr. Boyle is one of my favorite professors. If you show up to class prepared (reading the chapter in the textbook) you'll have an easy A. He is a funny man who cares about his students and their success. There is a group project and you will need to buy the textbook. I would take another one of his classes in a heartbeat.
Boyle was my favorite teacher this semester. Definitely a professor that wants to help you more then anything else.
If I could give more than a 5 to a professor I would truly the best professors I have taken . I truly cant explain how great this professor was.
He's awesome, as long as you do the homework it's graded for completion. He gives you opportunities for extra credit on tests even if you get an A. There are some group projects too but they're easy as long as you do your best.
Dr. Boyle is a fun, knowledgeable professor. Always be ready in class - he WILL pick on you to answer a question. Attendance is important because he doesn't have many graded assignments. He's fun and cares about his students as people. I'd definitely take his class again.
DR. BOYLE IS AMAZING! He really does care about his students and does his best to explain things clearly. Just complete his quizzes and do the work and you'll be fine.
Dr. Boyle was a fantastic professor. He was really funny during his lectures and interacted with the class. Attendance is important and part of your grade. BTW you don't need the Textbook you just need the Launchpad access code and just do each chapter and quiz every week. Exams were open to everything. Also he's lenient and understanding.
tl;dr DO IT Okay, technically passed with C, but it was like 79% so its whatever Launchpad hw, 3 tests + a book report Chillest professor you'll ever meet, *extrememly* understanding Because of Launchpad issues, I missed a third of launchpad work. I wrote a good book report and explained the issue, so he gave me like +20% on my grade
I literally created an account on this website to give this professor 5 stars. I've been taking online classes at NVCC and pretty much all my professors were and are honestly boring. For once I actually look forward to lectures, specifically Dr Boyle's. Teachers rarely make me laugh but this man's sense of humor and teaching skills are on point.
Hes a nice guy and the class isnt too bad but his grading system is really weird. The entire semester adds up to 100 points so if you mess up, youre screwed. Attendance is mandatory and he takes away a point for every class missed from your grade at the end of the semester. He also randomly calls on you so thats annoying.
Just take his class!!!!! His lecture never gets boring and he explains everything in a way everyone understands. Just know he will call on you lol
I thought PSY would be the death of me. Dr. Boyle made all that stress go away. There's many long Launchpad assignments so be ready to spend around 3 hours a week on that, but do that and you'll pass. Great guy all around, would for sure recommend.
What an amazing professor. You will get an A in this class with just the littlest amount of effort. Professor Boyle is hilarious and interesting enough to make a three and a half hour lecture not seem dull. The work is extremely easy allowing multiple attempts, and the whole course is pretty much open book. Take this mans class, you won't regret it
I greatly enjoyed Professor Boyle's lectures, he's personable and hilarious but incredibly knowledgeable as well. Homework was easy, the regular assignments didn't take too long and you can retake quizzes as many times as you like. Out of all the courses I took this semester this one was easily my favorite.
He was really funny and he was really helpful when it came to questions and concerns about certain topics. I liked a lot how he connected psychology to the real world instead of just reading off the slides. Your homework are these quizzes that you can take as many times as you want and there are only 4 tests.
Pretty good professor. He at least as enthusiasm when he speaks so you don't really get tired. If it's online, he does read off the powerpoint slide the whole time and then adds more input. For online, we used macmillan for quizzes and tests. Not that hard to get an A. just put effort in.
Clear criteria grading. The class lectures are amazing & very interesting. He cares about his students. Homework & test on launchpad . Theres only one assignment a book report. I would take him again if I could. He makes lectures fun which keeps you awake.
Professor Boyle is fair you will learn a lot if you just listen and do the homework
Great psychology class, this is for PSY100 Applied Psychology, 3 tests, attendance, participation, paper, book report. Never a dull moment!
Has a way of explaining psychology in normal talk, highly recommend!
Dr. Boyle is one of my favorite professors. His lectures were very engaging and he is a great teacher. He speaks to you like you are on the same level. Very enthusiastic. Straight forward grading. The research paper was on a topic that is more interesting to students than typical topics.
Everything was open note. One book paper due at the end of the semester but was not difficult. 3 tests and a decent amount of homework. You will have to read the textbook but the chapters are not very long. Kind teacher! If you do all of your work and show up to class you should be fine. Does offer extra credit if asked. I got an easy A
He was a good professor. His lectures were engaging and the class did a good job at giving me a understanding of the basics of psychology. He was funny and he encouraged us to connect class concepts to the real world. Not neccesarily my favorite teacher ever, but definitely solid
Was initially worried about the class but Professor Boyle has a way of making difficult stuff easy through real-world stories. Would take another class from him because he really cares about his students.
What are you waiting for? Great professor, but fair and doesn't put up with excuses. Highly recommend!
Whew, didn't realize how much stuff I would learn can honestly say I was surprised didn't think I would like psychology but was wrong. This guy really cares about his students
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. I can't recommend this professor more. Dr. Boyle is simply awesome. He's super funny, always has great stories to tell, and his lectures are never boring. He knows exactly how to get the whole class participating in discussions during lectures w/o assigning any group projects. hw & tests/quizzes are online, easy A if you study!
This rating is for Professor Boyle teaching Principles of Psychology at NOVA. I can't give a higher rating to any professor who is more supportive of his students. He is very approachable but knows his stuff and is very organized, let's students know exactly where they stand and how to improve. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors out there. Truly wants what's best for you.
Great Professor! Truly knows everything he is talking about. Shows that he cares about us students. Tries to make the lectures interesting and does succeed!
Easy class, just follow the syllabus and you'll be fine
He is a favorite of mine, he very much gives off tough-love vibes but if you participate it is easy to get on his good side. He is so interesting to talk to because he has tons of life experience.
Dr. Boyle is a solid professor and doesn't try to make anything harder than it should be. The class structure is very easy to follow but at the same time, he makes lectures interesting. Would take him again.
I really don't like psychology but Dr. Boyle made it enjoyable. I respected him because he respects his students a great deal. He understands that you have a life outside of school. However, deadlines are hard. Unfortunately it is mostly modules and reading but if you need psychology credit then I would highly recommend taking his course.
Great professor, highly recommended, knows his stuff
This is for the online psy class, most teachers I've taken at nova admit that they don't know how to teach online. Dr. Boyle knows exactly how to keep student interest up despite the online format. Excellent professor and knows how to make complex stuff simple.
No question the most interesting professor this semester! I love the way he teaches and makes the material relatable to everyday life. You won't regret taking this class!
As an added bonus to a great class, Dr. Boyle uses big words I'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE, so it's also fantastic for increasing your vocabulary
Dr. Boyle is a great professor. The class is interesting and heavy, sometimes feel that you are taking Biology class. A lot of reading, quizzes every week. The quizzes worth only 1 point each :( I like how he start the class asking everybody if something extraordinary happened to his students. You need to ready a lot. I will take him again!
Dr. Boyle is by far the greatest pyschology professor I have taken. All the homework and exams are on Macmillan learning. He does assign a book report, but he gives us the whole semester to do it. Follow the syllabus and you will pass the class with an A!
Not bad, not amazing. Lots of hw, 4-6 page book report. Attendance is graded. Lectures a little faster than preferred. Will not pass tests without thoroughly reading textbook. 3 open note exams. Not very hard to get an A but definitely not an easy A either. I probably wouldn't take again just because some tests were info heavy & confusing.
Easy A if you attend and take notes. You'll appreciate him more after you've taken other classes and seen how they compare. Dr. Boyle is the best teacher I've had.
Best professor I've had, note that I didn't include easiest, but I learned a lot. Highly recommended!
Best teacher i've had at nova, will prepare you if you are transferring to a 4 year school. Plenty of opportunities to get a good grade. Tons of experience, learned a lot.
Just took the summer course, amazing professor, you won't regret it.
Certainly the best professor I've had in college. uses personal experience so goes beyond the text. Highly recommended!
Very fair and is willing to help students if they need it. Many teachers are not willing to do that. Highly recommended
Best teacher at nova, has turned me onto learning. Great personality and delivery. Tests are open-note. Uses macmillan for quizzes and exercises. Hignly recommend
3 tests, weekly homework and quizzes, attendance, and book report, clearly laid out class, enjoyed it.
Once of the best teachers I've had. Makes the book easy to understand. Tests are open-book, but still challenging. Relates the material to the real world so the time flies by. I'm searching for other classes he teaches but seems to concentrate on gen psych, but will take another class from him in a heartbeat.
Took Professor Boyle over the summer session, excellent lectures and a really deep understanding of psychology over and above the textbook. Recommended!
Took a chance on an online class and lucked out with Dr. Boyle who makes things very clear and entertaining. Probably even better in person.
He is such a funny professor I love every single lecture everything was easy and he always answer every question without being annoyed
He is very nice and funny. I took a 13 week class with him and it was a little stressful because everything was cramped together. He goes through the material way too fast during lectures. I didn't even have time to take notes properly. Tests were super hard and you really had to study for them.
The summer class was definitely challenging due to the compressed schedule. Be prepared to take good note. It's a ccollege class so expect it to be challenging, but Dr. Boyle always covers the material. Highly recommend, not an easy A though.
Would take him again in a heartbeat!
One of the few professors that doesn't read from slides. He knows his stuff and respects students. Highly recommend.
Closing out a great fall semester with dr. boyle, i can say that i learned a lot from him. Take him if you can!
Just finished taking PSY 200 with Dr. Boyle and I definitely recommend taking his class. There there were three exams, each covered five chapters and were all open, but still very challenging. He is the type of professor that wants you to understand the material so he tries to clarify the information in a way you can better understand it.
Dr. Boyle was an enthusiastic teacher with lots of knowledge of the subject matter. Loved him!! BEWARE! Do not take PSY 200 as a seven-week course. There's a lot of content, so all of it gets crammed and makes the workload stressful. You HAVE to take notes with the textbook, not just the slides. The textbook has info that is on the test.
Such a fun guy! Great lectures. He is very engaging and will always be open for discussions. Helps students out with anything. Take his class!
summit assignments on time does not take past due assignment.
Dr. Boyle is an amazing professor, the workload was pretty easy being a few small activities about the chapter that week, and the tests were comprised of 4-5 chapters each, totaling 15 chapters (all being open book). Do note that there are very few assignments relative to the content and a majority of the points come from the test.
Dr Boyle know his subject, even though he reads slides, he takes the time to explain in detail and answer any question. Such a fun class but also requires to stay up to date with assignments and homework. Will definitely take him again. Once you get the hang of the dynamic, you're good to go! He doesn't mind clarifying or repeating, very patient.
Clearly know his stuff outside of the textbook. This will be one of your more detailed classes but worth it. Very fair and respects students.
Great class!
Dr. Boyle is one of my favorite professors at NOVA! The class was difficult but he was a good teacher and as long as you took notes you'll do fine on the exams. All exams are open note, and he gives you a chance to earn points back on the exam. 100% recommend.
Dr. Boyle is a wonderful professor who truly cares about his students. He is not only an inspirational educator, but he is a caring human being who desires success for his students. You need to read the textbook he has online, read the PowerPoints he reviews in class, and complete assignments online to succeed on the exams.
If you need to take Psych200, TAKE IT WITH DR. BOYLE!!! He's an amazing professor, makes lectures really interesting, and actually makes sure you understand the concepts, maybe a tad bit of homework but nothing too intensive. If you pay attention to his lectures and do your homework, the tests will not be that difficult.
Honestly just an all around great professor. He so very clearly knows his stuff, and the lectures are not too heavy. Class was super easy and I passed with a 99% PLEASE TAKE HIM.
Dr. Boyle is an amazing teacher, his class was interactive and fun. The tests are all open notes and fairly easy as long as you study and prepare. I highly recommend this class to everyone!
Wonderful professor, not the easiest class but learned a lot. I can say you get the grade deserved in his class.
This guy will become like a father to you at the end of the semester. the wisdom he bestows is unmatched. the quizzes are a pain but if you study correctly and complete all Macmillian assignments you'll be just fine. I recommend you attend every lecture, even if you're sick and can't get outta bed, Boyle gives amazing interactive informal lectures.
I took him online for 15 week course. He is a nice professor but goes over the slides too fast for me, he will stop and explain further if you ask but it's just his general pace. Quizzes every week and multiple activities due as well, which are all very tough in my opinion. I don't know how some students get A's, unless your a super robot.
Great professor, tough class. Covers everything, very thorough.
Great class, Dr. Boyle finally cleared up a lot of questions I had about behavior. Take the class!
Amazing lectures and great insight into all types of psychology, he is also hilarious and is great at making everyone feel welcome. The tests are very hard, however they are fully open note and you can get around 20% extra credit on each exam by going to the extra credit class the next class after the exam.
John Boyle is genuinely one of the best professors at NOVA. He teaches very clear and concise, and overall he just make the environment really positive, and he puts it into a funny way of understanding the material. He also lets you have breaks, and genuinely makes you understand the material. Only con its material heavy, but tests are open note.
let's be straight forward heavy lecture One presentation extra credit 3 page book report paper quizzes every week 50-question test/multiple-choice/scenario-based questions mandatory attendance hes chill but doesn't care what you think about him. if you dont like studying dont take him 10 min break
Certainly not for slackers. You will learn a lot.
Best professor at the college. He knows not only the book but is up to speed on current content. Highly recommended!
Be careful what you ask for, I found my other courses would not prepare me because they were too easy. Not the case with Dr. Boyle. Best psychology professor I've had so far.
Very clear and informative lectures.
absolutely incredible professor! his lectures are hilarious and informative, and he truly cares about his students. as far as test and course content, if you actually read the textbook you will get an A+ in this class.
This professor is by far one of the best at NOVA. He has everything organized for his students, takes questions, makes time for his office hours, adds humour to his lectures, and cares that you succeed. He reads from his slides a bit, but elaborates on the material very well. If you're an introvert, definitely take him, the class has no cameras.
Jon Boyle is the nicest and funniest professor I had, his class PSY 200 does have a lot of homework but if you pay attention to the slides in class and do the extra credit at the end of the semester (easiest extra credit ever) you'll do just fine.
A working-class hero, and a funny, agreeable guy. Dr. Jon Boyle cares more about his students and their learning than anything else. If you try, you will get an A, and I promise you this class will change how you view everyday life. Lectures can be a repeat of the book, but he makes up for it in his laugh. Please take this beautiful humans class.
Great professor, really engrains the lectures in your head with memorable things. note heavy, I would take notes before or after class. Tests were open note, so notes are VERY important. do the book report and presentation (extra credit). Sad I won't be taking another one of his classes.
