helpful if you can find him in his office, very dreamy blue eyes
He seems to be a cool guy, just a very conceptual and asks too many open ended questions in class that are complicated
Real easy to talk to, and very friendly also.
He is really hot!! Ha ha...great professor he makes u think and is very friendly. He does anything he can to help out his students.
He goes over class time a lot, so don't sign up for his class for a time when you have to leave right afterwards.

I really enjoyed taking his Astronomy class! He is a really nice guy and makes Astronomy really fun to learn and makes you appreciate our Galaxy and other Galaxies more! He is good at physics as well so I would recommend him to anyone!
Good teacher, but doesn't go into to much detail. Make sure you ask questions and he will be more than happy to explain more.
Very handsome, cool guy. Really interesting subject. But we never got our homework assignments returned to us, which could have been useful for studying for the tests. He also sometimes went over time allotted in class, which is kind of inconsiderate of students who have a class right after his or if they work right after his class.
He's really good to look at, has a lovely voice and really knows what he's talking about. Great teacher!
Professor Celesia is an excellent teacher. He explain things visually, which make things even easier to understand. Ask questions if you're not sure of somethin. He would be happy to answer any inquires. The class is very interesting.
Professor Celesia is Amazing!!!! Honestly one of the coolest teachers on campus; he welcomes questions and is willing to help his students. Overall the best prof. I've EVER had!! Makes Astronomy fun and interesting. He's also easy on the eyes : ) I wish he taught more astronomy classes. I will most deff take physics with him ! Professor U Rock!
AWESOME teacher, very smart and handsome! Would definately take him again!
He is the best. I wish he taught more astronomy classes. I love it! If your interested in this subject you should look into this class.
Professor Celesia is seriously one of the most passionate man about astronomy that I have ever come in contact with! I took his class last semester and I'm still fascinated with whats "out there" And I retained almost ALL of what he taught me....only down side is that he doesn't teach more Astronomy classes
One of the coolest Professors at CCC. Hes very nice and helpful, not to mention hes sense of humor. :)
He's very handsome and awesome. His class is great and he explains things very well. His tests are good, and makes his own text books, which aren't so pricy. Don't get the big thick one because it isn't needed. He explains things ok, but his class can sometimes get boring. Overall, he's great. He has lovely eyes lol
Awesome instructor. Show me how chemistry and physics related and now I love physics
Jon Celesia is a beautiful and charming man. His class was very interesting. My favorite part was the days he turned out the lights and talked to us about the majesty of the cosmos while we stared up at the planetarium ceiling. Oh, and did I mention how gorgeous he is?
He goes over class time. He likes to ramble on about things. Overall he is a good teacher. He doesn't make you feel like you're stupid even though you may not know anything about Astronomy, he will teach you everything from the beginning.
Professor Celesia is one of my favorite teachers ever. In fact, he may be my favorite. He is passionate about teaching and makes sure every student feels comfortable with the material. Very understanding and helpful. I highly recommend taking any class with him.
Amazing teacher. Passionate about astronomy and handsome to boot. He was really helpful and I'm going to miss his class.
He is hot haha, but regardless great class, great teacher and I enjoyed it very much.
He is a very cool teacher! He explains things so well and gives very good examples! I loved being in his class and i didnt ever want to be absent because itll be hard to understand the text without his explaination to the topic. Very cool subject and i enjoyed his class very much!
Awesome teacher! He explains everything well and gives great examples! He's very enthusiastic, funny and understanding. You don't want to miss a class, cause then you'll be behind. Homework is done online with super helpful hints.
Good teacher. Really works hard to teach you all he can in what little time he has. He uses all of it...even goes pass the time of class ending! Sometimes he can get a little confusing, but hang in there. He's there for you in the office hours. Just read the book, do the group work, do the tests & Don't MISS the online homework! And you'll do fine.
Initially I came on here just to give him a chilli pepper :] but he is very enthusiastic and makes astronomy interesting.
Encourages students to take the course twice. I had no life, you teach yourself because he's never willing to make time for students. Don't take him.
I had no interest in this course before we started. He makes it very interesting and his passion for the subject makes me enjoy it even more.
Great teacher. Very clear, if you do the homework and understand it you will ace the test.
Professor Celesia is a very kind teacher, he is very passionate about astronomy. The class can be tough if your taking a lot of units.Make sure to do flash cards of the material learned in class, a lot of memorization.Read the chapters or you will fall behind. The chapters tend to be 40-50 pages long. Online hw isn't too bad, just make time to study
Really passionate about astronomy. A fair amount of material that needs to be memorized from a few different sources, but altogether manageable.
I took this professor for my GE physics Lab in the spring of 2015 and I loved the class. He was kind and willing to help. This professor will go out of his way to help his students. He will make the process fun. I would be stupid to not take his class !
Jon is so cool! he made a girl who is afraid of algebra an A student in physics. I learned so much from this class, i highly recommend taking the lab along with the class. Unfortunately this is his last year teaching phys 110 :( BEST PROFESSOR EVER
Teacher was awesome, explained things well, lot of hw and flash cards but it made it easier to pass the tests that he makes pretty easy anyway, I got an A with 15 units on my back. Has wrote the book which is pretty cool and makes the course easy to understand, he is funny and nice to look at can't wait to take him for physics!
$100 textbook needed for online code to do online hw. There is also written assignments as w ell. Take Wayne McKinney over at dvc if you can and save some money.
Great teacher. Teaches astronomy wonderfully. If astonomy is something you enjoy already (like me) then this class is GREAT. Just do the work and study and this class is a breeze.
Inspiring course & passionate teacher. He explains things very thoroughly. My advice would be to take very good notes in class & to study and review daily. Flashcards and study guides are a huge help. Yes it takes work and a lot of study time but its well worth it and was even enjoyable to learn the many fascinating things about our UNIVERSE!
This class is really hard in terms of the workload and not the information . He makes you do homework, hand-ins, and flashcards WEEKLY. He's also extremely passionate making him forget that not everyone understands the way that he does. I would not recommend this class to anyone who is not prepared for rushed and overloaded information.
You speed $100 for the book along with the access code that comes with the book. There is weekly Hand IN's, Flashcards, and online homework. He goes on tangents and at times moves too fast through the material. He also has 3-4 exams depending on time allotted in the semester.
Professor Celesia, is a good teacher. He can be tough due to all of the reading, homework (online homework, hand ins, and flashcards for every chapter). He expects students to read, repeat and review consistently to do well on exams. However, its not hard if u do the work. Its an interesting course!
Jon is a cool guy. I love that he is so passionate about everything. I think the flash cards, Online Homework, and Hand ins were a bit much at first. But after my 100% on my first test :) I was hooked on the homework! Everything he has you do only helps you understand and remember what you are learning. Without it I would be lost. Great class!
Prof. Celesia is truly a hidden gem. He's very passionate about astronomy &truly wants to see his students succeed. Lots of reading but class is definitely worth it. Make sure to always read the chapters ahead of time to understand better when going over in class & you will pass with an A guaranteed :)
Loved this Teacher!!! He explained things really well and used a lot of visualizing it made it a lot easier to understand. He also made his own book it was easy to read, not packed full of technical stuff like they usually are. There was a lot of work but it wasn't hard and he lets you turn it in late just wants you to get it all in.
Mr. Celesia is a wonderful teacher. I had him for Astronomy and also for Physics Lab. Haters will say he is boring but I personally thought he was very interesting and funny. He was the sweetest teacher I've ever had.
A difficult class with one of the nicest, most encouraging, caring, motivational professors. At first, the repetition about how upper division classes are brutal, how 'basic' the concepts are, how you need to be previewing/reviewing/watching video/taking notes/do it his way is annoying, but all the work truly does pay off in the end.
Physics is very hard subject to learn but Mr. Jon will help you through it. Although there are lots of readings and his tests are hard, he gives good partial credit which will lift you up. Meet him in his office hours he will help you get the concept you are stuck on. He is very inspirational and cheering. He will help you out to get over Physics.
Great teacher. I appreciate teachers that teach with passion, he is also kinda funny. There's a lot of homework al though if you keep up with the readings you should be fine. He actually made me want to come to class and learn unlike other teachers
The professor is nice, but the lectures suck. He always talks about how to learn and solve a problem in his stupid way, that's boring. The test is not related to the homework, question types are so different. You can't learn from his lecture, so you have to study by yourselves. The teacher doesn't use canvas, you don't know schedule or your scores.
I got a B, and had to work like crazy to earn that. He will never solve a full problem in front of you--even if everyone begs. He also does not have practice exams/study guides. He makes his own exam questions somewhat similar to the challenge problems at the end of the chapters, so doing those examples is really the only way to not fail his tests
This class is quite difficult. The only reason I got an A in his class was because I formed study groups, had a strong math background, and studied for 3-6 hours every day. You will have to work hard and get in the habit of studying everyday. BTW doing the book problems does help a lot and so does studying in groups. CHEGG COMES IN HANDY FOR HW!!!
I took Jon's Astro 120 class over this last summer and its was incredible. He does a lot of homework with the flashcards, online homework, and hand-ins, but it was well worth it. He expects a lot of repetition and has 3-4 multiple choice and short answer tests. He is very inspirational and actually cares, by far the best teacher I've had in college
you may think you can skip class but then when he gives you the exam and you read "draw the graph we did in class" your going to be so upset you have been missing lecture!
Mr. Celesia is a real gem, we need more people like him in the world. He is passionate and his lectures are captivating. I definitely recommend him, though the class won't be an easy A. You have to earn it, but just do as he says and you'll do fine.
Professor is passionate about his class, on test it will ask you "remember what we did in class draw..." so coming to class is kinda of important. Flash cards are homework, as well as online stuff and hand-ins. easy as long as you follow his calendar and study
He is really one of the teachers that is passionate about his subject. Teaches fast, copy all the notes. Turn in all the homework, flashcard and MA online work and also get good grades on exam and youll be fine! It is a lot but astro is a fun subject and I didnt regret it. not an easy A. Work for it, read and do good in class and youll be fine!
The professor is funny, super energetic, and really passionate about his subject. If youre stuck on a certain thing, he is always glad to try and help you understand. Dont skip out on the lectures or else you wont understand your homework. There is lots of homework but the homework really does help you prepare for the exams. Textbook is required
Jon is a great professor. he actually cares about what he teaches. it is very lecture heavy, and yes you have to buy a textbook for the online homework assignments, but its not a hard class at all. if you are interested in astronomy at all, this would be the perfect class to take
Mr. Celesia is a great professor, he knows what he is talking about. You can tell He loves his job. He just asks for too much. The online homework(Which you have to pay to access) is sometimes about 50 questions. You have to do flash cards sometimes up to 25 and Hand in also. Test are easy if you pay attention to the drawings he does in lectures!
He is a very nice person and wants to help. He encourages and explains MANY times on how to keep up with his work and it's honestly the most work I've done for any class at community. It does help tho with his exams. Lectures are very important. Lots of homework both to hand in and online.
I wouldn't recommend taking this class for physical science credit! It's too difficult for anyone to do well for what this professor is asking for ! The book and online homework has nothing to do with the tests! This class was really difficult and very hard to even do well for the amount of work you have to do for this class! I Wouldn't recommend!
If you are anxious about taking Phys 120 or need a refresher course TAKE PHYS 101 WITH Professor Celesia. It's a class that will prepare you for Gen. College Physics. Professor Celesia is kind, inspirational and passionate about helping students succeed. He won't make you feel stupid for asking questions. His lectures are thorough and helpful.
I took PHYS 101 as a prep class for general physics and it was very helpful. The course is guided by textbook problems (written by himself) and introduces the main topics of physics. Prof. Celesia strives to help you learn physics and inspires you to change bad study habits into good ones -- overall great professor!
He really wants everyone to understand & enjoy Astronomy. You do well in his class if you set aside time EVERY DAY to study Astronomy. Not easy for most. But I learned so much and his sense of humor came through in his video lectures and the book he wrote for the class. Zoom sessions weren't mandatory but best to attend if you have questions.
One of the best professors. Prof. Celesia made me want to learn what was coming next. He made the subject matter easy to understand and will answer any question you may have. You will have to put in the time to pass the class , but if you do an A is possible.
This class was definitely a class where you actually have to read through the whole textbook in order to do well in the class. I took it online but I suggest you watch ALL his youtube video lectures and take notes because it makes the homework/quiz so much easier!I studied a lot from my homework and quiz's!Super great professor! Very fun/cool class
The lectures (if online) can range from 1 hour a week, to more than 3/4 hours, sometimes due in the middle of the week so you wont have the rest of the week to watch them. The first half of the class we had around 3 assignments/week, then it went to 6 assignments. I made office hours 3 times and he didn't show up. Very specific for certain hw's.
Weird course. He wrote his own textbook, which includes tons of quotes and advice on how to think, but is much less helpful than a quick google search on a topic. He appears to be a really cool guy, but he comes off as more of a philosophy teacher than a physics teacher. I guess CCC is making his class a prerequisite for any physics courses...
All we need in this course is to buy his book, read every single word, and do every single exercise in HIS BOOK. This course is only 2 units, but it's drained all of my time. The book exercises are weird; we have to guess what it wants us to do. This book would be pretty good only if I read in my free time; but in this course, it is just stressful!
Forces students to buy his own textbook that is only available in the bookstore and not online. The textbook in my opinion is hard to read and hard to follow. You're expected to do every problem in the textbook as well as read every word. Not to mention the textbook costs as much as the class does in terms of tuition. Also didn't help with Physics.
Easy to reach out to. Some sections have heavy exercises and can take a while. He writes his own textbook and some of the stuff in there can be more clarified. Reading it gave me a headache. You also have to pay for the textbook. If you PAY for the online version you CANT even keep it cause it expires which is a downside. Good luck!
Buy my own textbook that it is so useless that it does not explain any physics at all! His book basically only holds problems. Easy to reach but he treats with a bunch of spiring quotes, yet the only reason why I am taking this class is because it is require for future contra costa physics classes. which the college had more options of professors
This class is too complicated due to the textbook's unclear aims (he wants you to do ALL activities in it too) and tiresome since it's a two-credit class, but somehow takes WAY more time than my five-credit concurrent Calculus I class. Take physics in another school since CCC requires you to take this stressful class to go to higher-level Physics.
I really regret putting this up as the professor is affable and a great person overall... but his PHYS101 class is probably the worst class I took in the college. I regret not taking physics in HS.
This guy is nice and all but should not be teaching. His homework assignmnets are extremely long, not hard, which take a lot of more time than my other 4/5 unit classes. Be aware that this is class is required for PHYS- 130 so you got no other choice but to take him
Terrible instructor and professor. would not recommend
Affable teacher but I'm not a big fan of combining philosophical ideas and physics, at least not at this level. Trying to dumb it down and trying to reinvent the wheel just produced the opposite effect, creating a hard ENTRY-LEVEL physics course. Do not take this class. You won't learn anything AT ALL. Learned more from Khan Academy & OrgChem Tutor
Meh. Professor is OK at best, but the book where we get our activities is subpar, especially in a course that claims to "prepare" you for Physics (Hint: It doesn't). Jon is passionate about physics, but his passion hinders students from learning physics in a 101 course. I hate Physics when I entered the class, and it made me hate it even more after
This class was miserable. Incredibly simple concepts that you'll figure out on your own, homework took longer than any of my 4 or 5 credit classes. Not to mention the joke of a textbook written by the professor IN COMIC SANS. It is criminal to charge 38 dollars for a pseudo-inspirational self help E-text that looks like it was made in MS Paint.
He gives you chances to succeed in your hw assignments and you can tell that he wants you to succeed!
Jon is a cool guy but this class was awful. It takes concepts and breaks them down to the point of being too complicated. All the work is from his own book (conflict of interest?) which costs $60 and is full of philosophical/inspirational nonsense. Only plus is that he's very approachable and will work through problems with you if you ask.
prof has good personality but the class is just awful, there gotta be better ways to make this class more accessible. Also this class is very unclear to someone new to physics, might be better if someone else taught this without the textbook.
class required has way too much work. but its required for the real physics classes. wishing I never had to take it. just do the minimum 200/270, and watch some yt videos from khan academy or organic chem.
