Great! One of the best profs I've had. I'm guessing that most of the negative comments are from freshman who aren't quite ready for college. As a senior, I can tell you this guy really cares about his students. He's a straight shooter.
Pushes students to give more than crap.
One of the most underrated profs at IWU. I liked the guy. He was cool and funny!
I had American Government with him last semester, and it was great!
A Canadian using a textbook written by a French guy to teach American Government - You gotta love that
As weird as "blue poop", but a good teacher otherwise
Condescending and decidedly difficult. His test questions can be confusing.
If you aren't willing to try, he is not willing to give you a good grade. Read, give your opinion and defend it, and you will love him. Very easy to work with, and as long as you aren't dumb, he won't think you are dumb.
I despised every minute I was in his class.
Seemed to have no respect for most students in his class, he just tried to make them look stupid. He acted like a complete jerk pretty much every class. Canadian teaching American government?
Very hard prof-cost me my 4.0 freshman year! I liked him in WesternCiv, but he was excessively difficult in American Gov.-especially since it is a 100 level course. I would not recommend taking him unless you like to be very challenged. Nice guy though.
If you are not willing to give your all to the class, do not take it from him. Tough tests. Knows what he is talking about but you have to give everything you have. I personally don't think it is good for freshman! Nice guy though, real nice guy!
Taught his students like they were high schoolers. Very nice guy, but wants to much control
A Canadian teaching American Politics gives it an unbiased stance. I thought he was great and started fantastic conversations, gave much needed clarity when asked.
I respect Conrad for his commitment to his students' academic excellence. In order to pass a test, you have to study, but if you study, you pass the test. The way it should be.... I had him for a night class (3 hours straight!) and didn't get bored onc
An excellent professor. Don't take him if you're a moron. If you think he makes people look dumb, chances are you ARE dumb. That's why you FEEL dumb. He obviously cares for all his students.
jon conrad is a good man... he should get the award for good man
we have good group class discussions... although we seem to go off on alot of tangents that we're never tested on. although, if you take notes and pay attention in class and study a bit, you'll get a good grade. i didn't read the book much and i still have an A. good prof in my opinion.
Good guy. Teaches alot of info but is very fair.
he is a terrible professor, he brings up touchy topics so that the class will have debates over christian doctrine that is useless to the class and what we are learning.
Intelligent prof. who doesn't settle for textbook answers. Those who dislike him are often the ones looking for the easy A or who don't like to question the validity of their opinions very much
If you can't defend why you believe one thing over another thing get ready for a wild ride. He demands that his students know what they believe and why they believe it. If you don't like to think critically and don't like to work for a grade then don't waste the man's time. Plus, he'll probably rip you a new one in front of the whole class.
very rude to his students, and tough on attendance... fell asleep for literally 2 and 1/2 minutes, and got marked absent... makes snood remarks to his class when they dont particpate or know what he's talking about... jerk, and not a good prof at all.. .DO NOT RECCOMEND FOR ANYONE TO TAKE THIS PROF

Very hard professor.....you must go into the class knowing a lot about it or your going to have a really hard time keeping up or following his lecture.
Take this class. Conrad is an amazing person to be around. He's just seeping with knowledge. He will make it worth your time to take this class.
conrad is great! you have to know what you believe and why...otherwise, he WILL rip you a new one. take good notes, read the book, you'll be fine. and keep an open, optimistic attitude...it makes the class go better bc you're not expecting anything. he'll let you state your opinion, but be sure you know you can back it up!
This was the worst professor I've ever had. He is incredibly rude and unhelpful, and brings up touchy topics and expects students to debate like wildmen over them at 8 in the morning. I have a 3.86 GPA and took this class pass/fail, tried my absolute hardest, and still barely got a B-. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Conrad is sweet. he's straightforward, and smart. pay attention.
Impossible to take his tests because he like making his tests impossilbe
I'm not a history major. I just have to take the class, but its pretty okay. If you study and pay attention, you'll be fine. I think Conrad's a fair prof. Tough, but fair. Don't see what the big deal is about getting a good grade. Work hard and have a brain. nuf said.
hey conrads cool
Dr. Conrad is from Canada. He teaches World Civ. He's really funny sometimes. Not a bad professor, but he has an attitude. He will also try to talk you into writing an optional paper for a contest because instructors get money if you win.
One of the only profs who teaches college level material. Critical thinking skills are a must, and be prepared to defend your opinions. Participation makes his classes fun and helps you develop relationships with other students. Take a course with him to gauge whether or not you should be in college, or making sure the ketchup dispenser is full.
He is one of the worst professors I have ever encountered my time here at iwu. He is condescending, rude, and lacks any ability to empathize with the rest of the human race. I would never recommend taking a course with this professor.
hmm...might be bipolar.
Okay, I like governmment anyway, but this guy is really good. Love how he helps us understand some of the way things were. You gotta work hard, but its a great class.
I liked him a lot. He's a great professor. He explains everything so well. You definitely have to work hard in his class but I learned so much. He's tough on attendance, but the 3% grade increase for not missing a class makes it worth it! He also offers a lot of extra credit. great prof!
Lots of debate in his class. Very useful for learning about how history is applicable to us. Tends to get the class a bit riled up and this can cause some people not to like him, nevertheless it helps you learn a lot and to understand time periods different than our own. Good professor.
A really great professor. Not as hard as many people say.
his class totally sucked! it was way hard for a gen ed. i have heard of 10 people failing this class, and even some have failed it twice! save yourself and take it with someone else!
This was a near impossible class. The only reason I didn't below a C is because I was determined to prove my sister's boyfriend's wrong when he said I wouldn't get anything better than a C. But as far as class goes, I didn't mind him. I sat right in front so I was forced to pay attention, and he appreciated that.
I'm not much of a history buff, but Conrad's a good prof. I learned plenty and would like to take his classes again.
He is quite difficult. He's textbook, not much change in his classes. He is very good at explaining things. Overall, I would recommend him if you are truly wanting to learn something.
Honestly, he buys into several false dichotomies, such as: being liked means you are easy, and being difficult means you are good. Dr. Conrad offers heaps of criticism, but limited guidance. I'm not some dummy complaining about a Gen. Ed. I do well in the Social Science department. I learn more from Kris Pence or Dr. Bartley, no question.
Challenging prof. No doubt. I had to study just to do reasonably well. Conrad likes to make you think and he will definitely make you back up what you say. Looking for an automatic A? Look somewhere else. Conrad gives real grades. I'm actually pretty happy with my B-. Would take another class with him.
Conrad is a real nice guy but the class is pretty rough.. I had to do every extra assignment possible. Want a easy world civ class, don't choose him as your prof
Conrad is a brilliant man, and can be really funny at times, especially when he goes on a tangent. He's extremely nice, but his class is very challenging. Unless you are really good at studying, I wouldn't recommend taking him for World Civ.
It's a difficult task to make World Civ interesting, but Conrad probably does better than most. Awesome prof. Challenging- yes. You actually have to study, but he compiles his test in a very orderly manner more conducive to recall. Incredibly nice guy. Tough, but nice, and always willing to help.
I had him for world civ. the class is a killer, but since it's required, take it with him. he tries to work with the students who are struggling who go to talk to him. nice guy.
Horrible. DO NOT TAKE! i am usually a B student and i worked hard but still failed this class. if at all possible DO NOT take him. get a different prof. it's not worth it. we didn't even use the book. he is bias towards males and majorly has his favorites.
I had him for World Civ, and if you aren't a fan of reading, drop him for another professor. He required reading the chapter as well as online reading in his class, but he was interesting to listen to and was very caring/helpful when it came to students. Only major complaint, he won't allow males to wear hats in class.
Dr. Conrad made me wish I was a history or poly/sci major. His class is challenging, but he does everything to prepare and help you. He's a quality guy, loves God, and loves what he does. I was never bored in class.
Beware Freshman!!! Very hard course! test= 130 multiple choice and 1 hour to complete. Quizes are as difficult as test. LOTS of reading. Prof lectures from his notes, NOT heart knowledge of subject. Conrad is a PoliSci prof, not a history buff. If you want a challenge, take the course. Literally, the book taught me. Not Conrad. Great guy thou!!!!
I had Dr. Conrad for 3 courses my freshman year. After making me cry in front of class multiple times, I decided to switch out of the Pre-Law program. He is useless. He is biased and egocentric. Such a waste of my time.
Conrad is a polarizing figure. For foundations he based the class on discussion and made it extremely interesting. He does assign a lot of reading and you will work really hard for any grade. If you are not in history or Pol Sci then avoid him like the plague because he'll make you hate life. Otherwise he is a great prof just dont take his gen eds
Dr. Conrad is a very difficult professor, but he is truly one of the best IWU has to offer. You will have to put all your effort forward, but you will benefit deeply from his classes. READ READ READ! If he says to read something that means read it in depth and highlight and take notes...DON'T SKIM! and DON'T CRAM!!!
Coming into the class with very little history knowledge, I thoroughly enjoyed what I learned. Take solid notes during class and from the reading he assigns (about 30 pages a class usually... takes a while..) and you will do fine. He takes prayer requests before every class and keeps you very informed via e-mail. Make sure you do the reading!!
Useless professor, honestly. Spends the first week talking about the syllabus and "how to do well." This is not a high school study skills class. It's unbelievable how much time he devotes to talking about nothing; it's difficult to actually learn from lectures. Tests are difficult but not impossible.
I had Professor Conrad for 6 class while I was at IWU. He is a wonderful professor who invests in his students and challenges them to be better. He comes off being difficult but its because he's pushing you to be the best student you can be.
Tests are impossible, turtle necks are gross, homework is pointless, it is no surprise that politically- this country is failing with teachers like him. Try to avoid him even if it means taking a class with a random adjunct they hired off the streets. I have never felt as unmotivated in any class as I did in this one. DON'T READ TOCQUEVILLE!
He's a good guy and wants to help but there is only 3 exams, 1 final and 1 essay. The extra credit is pretty difficult as well. Really hard professor for government.
I took the class as a junior. Freshmen will probably hate him. He's more help than they know. He makes his tests so you have to read to do well. One of the few real profs at IWU. If you're in his class, welcome to college.
Dr. Conrad is a very smart guy. I suppose this is why POL100 is a difficult class. You should read the book for the tests, make sure to get 100 percent on the online quizzes, and make friends with him. He's a very helpful professor if you let him be.
the test are AWFUL! especially the final, and this coming from someone who is NOT a slacker! I put so much effort into this class and it was only a gen ed. I am a senior and not even my Major classes are as difficult as this class has been!
He is very strict about his rules in the syllabus. No hats. Need to be on time or else considered absent. He has yelled at the students several times for not knowing the answers.
Dr Conrad expects you to take notes, study, and read(Welcome to college)You have to try as hard to fail his course as to pass. The xtra credit and quizzes are easy As Tests are challenging but not impossible He talks about study habits because people think they deserve an A and won't study. We need hard gov't classes to help us be good citizens
Great prof. He likes to connect the past with the present. He expects you to read and prepare for class. Weird. If you do, life is good. Not an automatic A. Have to work for this one. But it's worth it. Need more profs like this.
Respected and clear. You will know exactly what he expects of you.
I loved my government test with Conrad. He cares about his students on personal, spiritual and academic levels. Definitely would take more classes with him!
He calls students out in class for being late and walking out to get water or go to the bathroom. In his opinion, you should be able to stay with him for the full hour without having to leave. "Quote we're not in middle school anymore". It is hard to have respect for a professor when he does this as well as purposely calls students out in class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Conrad. He has online quizzes you can retake as many times as you want for practice and he puts questions from it on the tests. Easy answers if you study! He never had us do group projects, tests were all multiple choice questions and he gave us extra credit opportunities. I'd take absolutely take another class with him.
Very old-school, no cell phones, had a huge issue with people wearing a ball cap. 2 skips given, don't have to read the book but it helps.
Very peculiar prof - has a vendetta against hats, gum, and cellphones. Make sure you take notes and remember to do the discussion questions. He also calls out people in class if they leave the room, check their phone, or offer an opinion contrary to his. Have thick skin basically and youll do fine. But Im an A student and got a B in this class.
If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. That said, he is clearly passionate and well informed in this area. I genuinely enjoyed his insights. He offers open note quizzes that really help your grades. It requires work but you can definitely pass it. He really doesn't like tardiness or phone use in class.
I hated this class. I hate politics, i took this class to see if i could gain an interest in it, all i got was a even deeper hate. Professor Conrad is a very likeable person, but was somewhat frustrating to deal with over email at times. Easily the worst part was the exams. The wording was so dense, it took the entire class period to take an exam.
I think it is funny that he teaches government in the United States when he is in fact Canadian. Anyway, great guy, but he definitely makes you work for it. I knew a guy in another class that, for the final exam, found every single answer online word-for-word and still got a 60%. Needless to say, his tests are confusing and extremely difficult.
Conrad is a really tough professor. His tests were extremely difficult and he did not help students with how to study for them. He cares about his students but also does not like when students leave class early or come in late. The homework is super easy and open note/book so there's not too much to worry about there.
He has unrealistic expectations of his students and makes degrading comments toward students in class. He makes the course too hard for being a level 100 class.
Overall, Dr. Conrad is an excellent professor. He cares for his students profoundly and applies himself to his job. He very clearly loves what he is doing. I will say his classes are extremely test heavy. About 3/4 of your final grade is directly from your exam grades. He lectures every class and spends a lot of time using powerpoint presentations.
Not a nice guy. Will call you out for being late to class. Is just straight up rude!
Reads straight off slides the entire class and just lectures. Also gets offended and holds a grudge if he feels you don't invest enough into the class. Definitely has favorites regarding certain students. Will lower your class average by 5% if he thinks you didn't contribute enough to classroom conversations.
Overall he is a good professor but if you are not a good test taker you will suffer, he cares a lot about the students but if you do not care about politics/are not interested in the class your grades will suffer. he is very textbook reading heavy, but only lectures off the slideshows
Although Conrad often gets bad reviews, he is such a kind man. The first few courses you take with him are difficult, but it does get better the further you go. He is very consistent and an advocate for all of his students. I would recommend taking a class with him, he is a great professor.
Professor tends to lecture solely from slides, and can be offended if students don't participate enough. Using Unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me prepare for tests effectively.
Very passive-aggressive, which at times comes off as demeaning. Not very patient and have admitted it. Also not very understanding and is extremely lecture heavy which makes the class boring.
I tried talking to him one time and asked how else I could study for his class. He told me to drop it because I couldn't bring my grade up no matter what and told me to drop his class and go seek professional help. He'd frequently call out students if your phone was in your hand or on the desk. He'd also call you out if you're late to class.
