one of the coolest techers to this day. Made class a joke, all we did was talk about the war (since it was on during my time). Once he starts to talk he dosnt stop lol. One of those teachers that you just dont want to miss.

crazy guy. easy lectures and never boring. acts like a crackhead sometimes, makes it even more interesting. best of all, he doesn't believe in failing students (so he says) and in my class, no one failed -failures got incompletes. :D

I really admire how much he knows. An interesting person to learn from. He is one of the most patient and helpful teachers. Besides this he has such a cool personality and crazy imagination that from the moment he introduces himself the class becomes fun

This guy is the man! You can come to class like 45 min late and he doesn't make a fuss about it. He teaches very well and you actually learn in the class. A down to earth guy and has great stories! Take him for any HSS class because it will be worth it.

I don't understand why Jon has a 4.9. He should definitely have a 5.6 rating!!! Not only is he a super teacher but he's an amazing person as well. His section's probably gonna be overbooked before I finish typing this so take him for goodness sake!

The best teacher I have ever had. Be sure you like to read and discuss literature before signing up for this class. He is a fun, exciting, and stimulating professor. I would recommend him to anyone who likes a free-spirited mind. No sheep allowed!!

This is the second class I've had Curley in, and I look forward to another semester with him. He loves to talk about anything, and the his method of speech is very entertaining and fun. He's very involving, so make sure you like chatting about random things before you join the class. A very smart, and by far the coolest teacher at NJIT.

Great Teacher just have to do your work on time

This guy is by far the best ENG professor in NJIT, the class is so much fun, he makes you want to be in class on time just to make fun of him. Easy grader as well, he may be an awful professor in a humanities college or for those major in art/literature, but here in NJIT where students don't like to read and write. HE IS THE MAN.....

Curley is somewhat overrated especially on this website. He is a very intelligent guy that can get a bit annoying at times. His liberal leanings seep through the lesson and get on my nerves. However he is very fair and his tests arent hard. He is very generous with grading as well. I recommend him.

He made Humanities somewhat interesting. Very glad I took him for Hum 102. Make sure you show up to class because that is big in terms of your grade. Besides the reading for homework, the class is pretty much three 800 word essays and one 6-8 page research paper. Take him if you can.

Awesome professor who knows what he is teaching and can keep a class interesting. Writes a lot of comments on essays, but is very lenient on grades. Overall style was laid-back and somewhat informal, but you'll still learn a lot.

Greatest humanities/history prof I've had at NJIT. He will make it worth every minute you spend in his class. Make sure you pay attention and pipe up when there are class discussions. Very understanding of personal issues too. Take 1 of his classes before you graduate.

Very lenient grader, and knows a lot about the poets studied in class. Relates subject matter to a variety of other topics and often goes off on tangents, but he isn't boring, imo. Show up and do the assignments and you'll do well.

What else I could say about this prof? This literary smnr, nwk narratives, is just as amazing as it gets! 'S about Nwk's way of life. Quite the character, the more your class participates the more entertaining the class will be and you will get more BANG for your buck. Very lenient in grading and you will have to take a metaphorical gun and shoot yourself in the metaphorical foot to fail the class. He was an absolute pleasure to have.

Definitely one of the best, if not THE. Gives AMAZING feedback - practically writes his own essay on top of yours. He talks a lot and tends to go off tangent, but he does not get boring at all, at least for me. Also very VERY lenient in grading. There's a reason why Jon has so many reviews. He really goes out of his way to try to make each of his classes stimulating and thought-provoking. The reading material in class was very good. He's a great teacher and knows how to engage his students. He's also a very lenient grader. I would definitely recommend taking his class.

Great guy. Will take you on all sorts of tangents during class that are marginally related to the actual topic at hand. But he makes certain that you know what's expected of you. Attendance isn't mandatory but it will affect your grade if you never show up. Won't hesitate to get down to the student's level. Very friendly as well.

Jon wont shut up, but let me tell you, you want to hear what he has to say. Not a single boring lecture, he has no clear grading criteria. He will grade you based on the efforts put on participation,material readings and the papers you have to write. Attendance is not mandatory, but he will notice you are not there, he will remember your name!

Even though this was a summer online class, Professor Curley's class was amazing. A lot of reading, homework, and papers are conducted in the course but if you maintain with the class schedule and put the effort in, there is no one stopping you from getting an A. Also, really liked the fact Prof Curley responded instantaneously when you needed him

Jon Curley is probably the best English Prof at NJIT. I switched into his class from a night class due to schedule conflict and transferring to NJIT. Due to COVID, we switched to an Online Class in the middle of the semester. But he is really flexible when I emailed him questions. Would love to take his class again!

Jon is a fantastic man I am a transfer student who came in to his switched class sections on the second week. Very understanding and caring. He understood where I came from and he cares about his students. Even though we take 30 minute real minutes of the class. He manages to still fill the next 45 minutes to fill it up with his personal experience

An incredibly enthusiastic person who takes every students' work seriously. No, he doesn't shut up, but sometimes his tangents are insightful. Out of principle he doesn't grade assignments, but he's made it clear that you only get a bad grade if you don't show up or hand in work. Still, I'd only recommend LIT355 w/ him if you're really into poetry.

Love the guy. I only spent a few minutes a week just preparing for his final paper and he gives very great constructive criticism. I would 100% take him again

Really nice guy and makes the class very interesting. I enjoyed him a lot in my LIT340 class and he makes you feel like more of a friend which I feel makes the class comfortable with engaging in conversation and the readings.

I graduated from NJIT in 2020 and took Curley's class in 2017 and I'm writing this review in 2024. He's really something else, probably my most memorable professor from NJIT. I would take him again if given the chance, and would recommend everyone to try and grab a spot in one of his classes before they graduate.

Took Curley's class as my HSS Capstone 4XX “ Art & Politics” and wow. If you are looking for an easy A, slide through HSS, look elsewhere! You're gonna need to READ in this class. 4 books over the semester, not very long books, but reading will need to be done! The texts are GOLD especially if you crave intellectual nourishment and lit critique.

Truly a wonderful human being. One of the most interesting professors at this school and very lenient and caring towards students. Made my last semester at this school memorable.

He is an extremely passionate and well-versed person. But god, does that man yap! He will find anything and everything to talk about, rather than to teach the actual material. Just feels like he's just speaking to us about his special interests for 3 hours which he kind of is. But some of the activities actually do help with the writing.
