this teacher just expects you to know how to do it. doesnt explain much about the homework. quizes are short. expects you to learn it from the book. he just gives little examples in class.

he is a very nice man but he doesn't make much sense he will give u an answer to problem and then we wants you to go to the "out side world" to find how to do it...which i think isn't helpful at all
he is a pretty easy teacher... if you dont get the basic material... you probably shouldnt be in the class anyway. he's very helpful when it comes to not understanding you just have to make an effort and go see him during office hours. if you cant, he makes time for you to see him if you are willing
This is "one bad brother from another mother" good teacher followed him from Math 110 elemetary Algebra and he is very helpful if you dont understand anything go to his office hours and he will undoubtably help you
he expects you to know everything so when tests comes up your screwed. he doesnt explain everything clealy so you going to get confused and fail. he drops the lowest quiz. By the end of the semester there was 6 people passing in the class.
I have taken other Math class and finally I understood the way he teaches. He doesn't make you feel stupid. If you have a question, you can always come to his office.
Mr. Freedman is a good teacher, he explains the problems very clearly and if you have any questions his door is always open. I highly recommened his class...just DO your HOMEWORK and you will do fine.
Fall 03 Ididn't like his teaching style.I hated how you had to get tutors to check off your HW before turning it in, or it would be half points off.Total waste o time for tutors and mine.Doesn;t go overHW problems in class nor does he give hints in it.Can ask during office hours.Had to mostly read the bookand askes tutors on doing the HW.tests r ez
I took his 241 class in 03. I was doing okay for the first half of the class, then i just didnt understand anything. not his fault though. i decided to drop his class when i was getting a C, then took his 130 class in 04 and got a B when i was getting an A. Overall a good teacher.

Great teacher. Gotta do the work(which usually isnt too much), and you gotta keep up. But he'll help you along the whole way. Always helpful, always has office hours, always tries to make sure everyone understands. Funny guy too.
Great teacher he'll help all the way, but make sure you understand it cause trig is not an easy class to pass. he'll teach you methods that will make it seem easier. make sure you do the hw and if you don't understand it he'll be glad to help
he's a great man, and he's funny. he tries to make the class interested and all but he expects you to basically teach yourself, and with calculus, it's not easy at all. i just am not fond of his teaching style, and he can sometimes make feel dumb.
Is a fantastic teacher and definately explains the material in a comprehendable way. Uses a lot of examples and is willing to help outside of class.
All his material are not from the textbook. The His teaching style is horrible. He make you feel unsafe because his notes, quizes are extremely difficult! lots of quizes.
don't take any of his calculus class, he will screw your GPA......extremely extremely and extremely difficult quizes and exams !
the difficulties of his quizes is another's professors' exam! do not take him unless you want to ruin your GPA
exams are crazy! I've got cal 1 an A, but I got only C in his class.
he is so hard as in so hard.....
I agree with most of th reviews. This guy does have interesting teaching methods and will help you if you need help. Nevertheless, though he does have a Masters in Stanford and though he knows his stuff, he's not a good teacher. You have to get the info and clarify it for yourself. He'll sit there and talk like an audio tape, without stopping.
I dropped out with a W. He started from chap 6 in the book. Chap 1-5 could have helped my grade, but we only went up form 6.
applies real world to the numbers. very nice/happy guy. hes very interested in math and enjoys it.. but the tests are hard and expect hw. great teacher tho
he has good intentions and he will help if he is asked for help but at the same time his test are hard the material is hard and you have to have a tutor sign your problems which sucks if you do not have time
He is more than fair on his quizzes and exams. Very easy to do well if you do the basics of homework & going to class. Even uses problems discussed in class or from homeworks on his exams. I don't understand anyone who finds him hard/unfair. He is awesome! His class was the highlight of my day. He is extremely helpful. Would love to have him again!
I loved his class! Tests are easy! I don't get why people are saying he's hard. He explains a lot of the problems to us and he goes over it step by step. All you have to do is show up to class and do the homework. He gives group quizzes and we turn in our homework for the week on Friays. I just wish he would teach 242 next semester!
he is nice but I think his tests are quite hard though..he gave a lot group quizzes and just need to turn in hw on every fridays!!I went to every single math class last semester and turned in all my hw and tried my best anyway..I just got C in his class, overall,he is a good teacher but a little bit hard!
Really good teacher, clear lectures. Goes over everything you need for homework and on tests. Yes, he is a hard teacher, but he's also fair. He gives you all you need to know for the tests and if you're having trouble his office door is always open. You will know your stuff once the class is done. One of the best teachers I've ever had!
I don't know what all these people are talking about, Jon Freedman is an awesome teacher. I have him for a math class EVERY DAY. And, although he doesn't take attendance, if you miss a class it's on you and you will fall behind. He is FLEXIBLE with turning in homework (late if needed) and he is so so so helpful to people who ask for it.
Extraordinary instructor! Professor Freedman challenges you to think about the problem. Given the difficulty of the material, he thinks highly enough of his students to let them mull concepts over instead of just giving you his interpretation of the material. The course is difficult so expect to go to class to keep your head above water.
I had him for 811 and 110. He was excellent in 811 and he had the structure that I needed to learn the basics. However in his 110 class it seemed like we were on our own. He always put us into groups to review and rewrite the hw as a group. One person always ended up doing the whole thing. Also he piled on hella hw every class meeting.
Very good teacher. Before taking his class I did not have much interest in Math, but he made it interesting and applicable to real life. Also went out of his way to explain things after class as well. Lots of homework but is very fair when it comes to grading.
fREEDMAN MY MAN! SUPER FUNNY AND MAKES LEARNING FUN! HE DOESNT CARE IF YOU ATTEND CLASS OR NOT...HE SAYS ITS YOUR GOAL N IT DOESNT EFFECT HIM. DO THE WORK AND YOU WILL BE FINE...LETS YOU USE NOTES ON ALL TESTS AND QUIZZES! AWSOME! HELPS YOU IF YOU STOP IN ON OFFICE HOURS..VERY SMART!
Great teacher, funny guy. Gets us out and moving for real world applications. Tests are hard as hell, though, and we spend more time in groups with other students (Who usually don't talk about the material) than we do going over material and how to work the problems. It can be very confusing at times.
amazing teacher. makes a hard class easy . he tries his hardest to keep everyone involved and interested, relates it to real life. very impressive
Great Teacher! I hated math before him, his clear, walks you through process! Text book is a must and take notes. Exams are based on notes and some problems come out of textbook. Best MATH teacher ever.
He is super helpful. He breaks things down if you dont understand it. I highly recommend you take one of his class! You'll learn so much! and also he makes math fun and interesting!
I had him for 251 and i have him now for 252. he challenges you like no other. It's hard at times, but you learn so much, and if you don't understand ask. he will take as much time as you need to help u that is key to passing his class, asking questions and doing hw. assigned bookwork is enver collected but man does it help, mainly based on tests.
This teacher is a very well-rounded teacher. He is clear, helpful, approachable, and easy. As long as you show up and do the work you do, you will get the grade you want. He is very engaging and funny. He always tries to get know everyone.
he is very nice guy, but he is not easy. No Comments!
I have ALWAYS struggled with math. Mr. Freedman is one of very few people I have met that can explain math to me in a way that I understand (without making me feel like a moron). Ask questions! He is great at breaking things down clearly, even more so if you ask! Don't be shy. GREAT TEACHER!
Outstanding Teacher! Helped me last semester and made things so clear I was able to complete the course and retain what I learned. I have taken other teachers in the past for the same course and they didnt make it as clear as he did. You cant lose with a teacher like this at your side!
THIS PROF ROCKS! HE IS REALLY HELPFUL! BE ATTENTIVE AND DO THE HW's AND YOU'LL BE GOOD! THE CLASS IS HARD BUT THE HE STRONGLY SUPPORTS TEAMWORK SO TRUST YOUR CLASSMATES AND EVERYBODY WILL GET A! SERIOUSLY, TEAMWORK IS THE ANSWER!
Freedman is an awesome person. He really wants you to get a good grade. But this doesn't mean that he gives you breaks on quizzes and exams, they are pretty tough but manageable. He is very helpful so don't hesitate to ask. One of the best professors at Skyline.
Jon is a great teacher and the great thing about it is that he enjoys teaching. He expects you to know the material because you should by the time you get to this level of math. He expects you to put the work in to become better at the subject as you should be doing already
He is really good and nice teacher. You will see his smile like almost all the time.If you are correct half way through the problems, he will give u partial credit. He is not the teacher who wants to give you zero all the time. He will give some partial credits as long as you try.
Would not recommend. His teaching style is not very good. He gives 1 or 2 examples each class (VERY easy ones btw) then sends you off to do some harder problems in the HW, and then on the test he gives you VERY HARD questions. In all my years in school, he is one of the least helpful. He does know what he's doing, but not very good at teaching it.
He first teaches the concept in a very interesting way and then we move on to the formulas. This really helps me to visualize the problems and then solve them. All around very engaging teacher! I can think of only 1 time in which some of the class was talking and not paying attention. And it got cricket silent when he gave a disapproving look. :P
I like the way he teaches. Even though his exams are hard, they are fair. As long as you do your HW and study, you can do it. Fair class and fair grader!
Freedman is Fantastic! I took him for 811 and 110. I would have taken him for 120 if he taught it. Jon cares about the students and does whatever he can to help you succeed, but your education is up to you (like in every other college course. No one can make you want to learn or ask for help if you don't understand. Jon is a GREAT TEACHER!
This was the best class I ever took- love Mr. F!
He is really great and very organized teacher. He 100% knows how to teach. I like his lecture. If you want to have fair grader and teacher. Take him!. I appreciate you, Mr.Freedman!!!
Oh my god. I love him. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I like the ways he teaches. I don't even have the words to describe how he is good at teaching. I like his lectures. However, Of course, you need to try hard in order to get a good grade. Anyway, I love him.
Okay professor, however, he does not know how to present the material to the class. He does NOT go over examples, spends half the class talking about philosophers rather than going through the material. Wouldn't recommend him.
His exams are hard but he is an ok grader. You don't really need to go to class as long as you do the homework everything is fairly easy.
Freedman has alot of passion towards the subject. Tests(hard)are problems (tweaked)and examples out of book and has quizzes, hw problems out of the book. Allows note sheet for exams and drops lowest exam. He pushes you to learn the material on your own(gives ALOT of hw expects it to be done by next day!) 253 is hard, but he's a good teacher for math
Not recommended. He rarely teaches anything usefull and spends time talking about Newton. His tests are very hard and he gives out 2 quizzes per week. So many people would fail his quizzes.
Best Professor Ever!!! How'd I get so lucky?
BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD! REALLY TRIES TO HELP EVERYONE, I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM.
until this class I had never dropped or gotten lower than an A.He did not lecture on any of the chapter12 material which is essential for understanding later chapters.frequently assigned 20 problem online hw at 11pm expected it to done by the next day.He did not lecture from the book or give note.lecture were convoluted power point presentations!!!
Not recommended at all. He spends class time talking about philosophy, Newton and Einstein. Lectures consist of 1-2 examples that's it. It's up to you to figure out everything else. Basically self-study class. His helpful during his office hours
Apparently this semester was his first time teaching STATS again after a couple of years.. His lessons were rusty but he did try his best. He's very helpful during office hours. Hopefully he can get back in the hang of things. I know he's a great teacher otherwise. Attendance isn't mandatory but hey, you're only digging your own grave by not coming
This is a GREAT professor. To receive a good grade you must attend class DAILY and ask him for help as he is more than glad to help you out.
Horrible learning environment. When you first meet the guy he looks totally normal, but once you get to class number three, you see the crazy come out of him. He makes random noises around the classroom, does not like helping, and is very unfocused. I suffer from ADD, so him dancing the cucaracha around the classroom is not helpful. Total fail...
Mr. Freedman is a knowledgeable man in his field. Although, his lectures consisting of a few examples might be difficult to follow at first, remember that one has to show up and attempt to understand and if there is ambiguity then raise your hand. Overall, take good notes and review them, I recommend this professor.
Most of the time Freedman would be explaining the math concept instead of solving the math problem for you. Such teaching style is unique to him among all the math teachers I have taken classes with and I would say I have a hard time on understand his lecturing to math concept without the support of substantial examples.
he's an ik teacher, he's handsome and nonchalant! tests are examples from txt book
Mr. Freedman is very nice and is always willing to help, but he can be hard to understand. He is a fast pace teacher and if you tend to stay behind you should get outside help. I think he is one of the best options for stats because of his attitude; he always has a smile on his face.
This class is essentially Math for idiots, which is exactly why I was there. I learned so much from this teacher, don't be afraid to speak up! He is very good at teaching math to every learning style. Unlike other math teachers at Skyline his is actually helpful, take him! Its a tough subject for some of us, but just do the work!
You either love him or hate him. I was fine with his teaching. He does not go over many problems.
Freedman really knows what he's talking about. The great thing is that for every rule that we learned, he introduced it by proving it to us. That way if you forget for some reason, you can logically deduce what it was if you remember the proof.
Freedman is a really great teacher always willing to help. He also grades students for trying their hardest and doing their best. He is funny, and his class is never boring. He explains math in a way that everyone can understand math and makes it easy to do.
Statistics is a difficult subject in general, but he makes sure his students are well prepared for his testsquizzes. There is online homeworkbook work almost every night but it helps you with your grade as long as you finish them. Overall, take Freedman is a great math professor.
Freedman is an awesome, witty professor! He provides practical explanations to his teachings, and doing the homework provided is a must, as it is a large chunk of your grade. He extremely welcoming and open to visiting him in his office hours or asking questions. He also goes over the homework sometimes if the class is stuck on a certain concept.
He is the most baddest teacher I ever see in my three years skyline college life. He made me really confused and I can't understand anything from him. I just read and study by myself. But the way I am Stright A student, he gave me C, it is my only C in my entire transcript. Thank you so much Freedman
He doesn't really teach, he expects you to learn by doing the homework problems and ask questions during class times about the homework. His Exams are really hard. You have to work hard in this class. If you could pick another professor do it. not recommended
Freedman is just one of those great teachers. He is totally willing to answer any questions in class and during his office hours. He's got a sense of humor and doesn't give out too much hw. Unless you're a math person, I definitely recommend getting a tutor in the TLC or going to SI sessions.
I'm surprised Prof. Freedman has received such great reviews, I went into this class feeling positive about his teaching skills because of the reviews on here. He's a really confusing teacher and is not approachable. Only reason why I'm passing is because of the amazing S.I. person. If it weren't for him, I would've dropped long ago. Disappointed.
He gives you way too many homework each day; expects you to finish it and turn it in the next day, while he cant even fully explain the lecture to the whole class. Good thing there's an SI student helping us out, he's better of teaching the whole class!! His jokes are not even funny there insulting to people!
Awesome teacher. Freedman does his best to make sure everyone in the class gets the concept. Do the HW, ask questions, Easy A. Don't do HW, don't ask questions and Fail.
Math is not my strong suit at all, and stats was a challenge. Although, Freedman WANTS you to pass, you just need to ASK for help. If you really don't understand Freedman, you HAVE to email him and he will explain. You can't blame him for not teaching clearly without asking questions and for help. He can be sarcastic, but he really is a nice guy.
Doesn't clarify anything, and even the homework he gives is unclear. He WILL assign homework basically every night, whether or not he mentions it in class. Homework is online, which I, personally, harbor a very passionate hatred for. From what I gather, to get a good grade in this class, you must constantly ask for his help or be in MESA 24/7.
Expect to learn from online/learning center/SI leader. Go to office hrs and ask questions. Has a hard grading breakdown so that his spectrum includes pluses and minuses. Attend class, ask for help from him & outside sources, do your homework, study. Quizzes are given @ least once a week. Txtbook is just an online PDF (which isn't all that helpful).
I thought I was gonna be terrible at stats, but if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have gotten a B. I just slipped on HW, he really does care about students. Go to his office hours and show him you care and he'll take care of you. I love that guy, because of him I am now a stats minor.
I found his class difficult and ended up withdrawing, but that's because I found the class hard, not the teacher. Overall he is a good teacher, hw quizzes are easy if you do the hw, page of notes for the tests. VERY lenient when it comes to grading tests. Drops lowest and replaces scores with previous tests sometimes to boost grades.
Do your homework, and don't fall behind. He's really nice and approachable so go to him for help if you need it. You should also go to class because he might give pop quizzes or exam question hints. He secretly takes attendance. Overall he's a good teacher but you need to do your homework. It's super important for this class.
Lectures are bare bones and simply regurgitate the most simple examples from the textbook. Quiz and tests are based on the homework but he does not do a good job explaining how to do the problems nor does he collect most of the homework. I had to refer to outside resources to learn the class material.
Professor Freedman completely changed my views on math this semester. I came in absolutely hating math and dreading this class but his style made me want to come to class. I am very lucky to have the opportunity to take 200 with him. I completely recommend him! He cares and is always in a good mood.
Coming into Stats, I hated math. Good thing stats is usually full of word problems. Just come to class and take notes and you can absorb the material. Short 5 quizzes to check your progress in the class, usually with a group. He allows one cheat sheet and 2 pages for the final. He gives study guides sometimes, go to his office hours or TCL/ SI
His class is challenging. If you love math and are adventurous enough, then take him. If you don't, I suggest you not do that. He is not an easy grader, but he is funny. Even if you don't like his class, you will definitely like him.
Pay attention in class, take good notes, and keep up with the work. I hate math but you actually learn something from his class. Doable class
his class was hard, but he was always willing to meet with students to help them out. Though, I think to pass the class you definitely need to go to tutoring. Aside of that a very nice teacher.
Expect group work, daily warm-ups/reviews, and traditional board lectures. He's caring and quirky, and generally a lenient grader. Prepare for lots of critical thinking/analysis. His class is WAY more in-depth and rigorous than AP CALC. Definitely use the TLC and stay after class/use office hours to thoroughly understand the material.
He's a nice professor, but can be a little strict if you're not doing good in the class. Otherwise, he's pretty humorous that makes the class get a little bit of a laughter. The one thing you have to do every night, unless he states it, doing your homework.
Dont go to one of Freedmans classes because he gets very strict at times when you dont do well on tests and even youre not doing your homework as well.
His assignments are basically from an AP Stats website, which made the work a little more difficult. He doesn't care about his students grades a lot as he fails most students in an entire class. His tests are irrelevant that is not from the lectures.
I hate Freedman, he gets really hard in tests for sure. :(
Great Teacher! Gave me my first calculator, and took Math 811, love the way he teaches.
Freedman is a great professor! As long as you try and stick with him you'll pass. The beginning units are easy as long as you pay attention and DO THE BOOK PAGES! During the middle of the semester things do tend to speed up so make sure you're going to office hours if you don't understand. Attending office hours can easily get your grades up!
Really chill, laid back guy. He's really understanding and makes class really interesting! Would definitely take another class with him.
Freedman was great for my class because he really cares about his students. Math is not my finest subject and he made it very clear and spent time with students to help them advance. Though I passed with a C, he made sure I did well to pass and helped as much as he could. Attendance is mandatory and if you show up, you're bound to learn!
Professor Freedman really cares about his students but the majority of them don't ask him questions because they're intimidated. I encourage you to go to his office hours, tutoring, and please do the readings!!! Most of his lectures will come from online so advance reading will be really helpful. If you keep up with the reading, you're good to go.
Freedman is a very good teacher, he made me appreciate math more. Overall, he's pretty easy going and since it is a 6 unit class there is a lot of homework so get ready for that. The key to passing his class is to do the homework pages and show up, you can't learn if you don't show up. He lets you do test corrections to get 1/3 of the points back.
Hes super quirky and caring love his humor. You need to put in the effort, and maybe attend office hours hes super approachable and accessible. Truly cares for his students and pushes us to understand concepts and think critically. Tough since he elevates the difficulty of problems/concepts.
I've never written a review on this website before, Freedman made me want to write one! He's an outstanding teacher! The BEST I have ever had in my community college experience. I hated math and was convinced I was just "not a math person" before taking his class, now I feel very confident in my math skills and have a new love for the subject!
I thought that b/c I took 190 with Freedman, 200 would be a breeze but that wasn't the case. 200 is more intense and for tests/quizzes you are allowed only 1 page of notes. I struggled but going to the SI sessions really helped. I don't think I would've gotten a B- without the extra help. Freedman cares about his students, just ask for help.
took a practice statistics practice course in summer before taking this class and got A+ but once i actualy took freedmans class it was so hard to understand what he was taking about because instead of him actually teaching us how to solve a question he would complicate things even more and there was WAY TOO MUCH homework. AndTestsHaveNothingToDo
I took this course after Math 110 and it was quite difficult. It was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken and some of my classmates would say the same. Your grade heavily depends on Checkpoint tests and projects. He is a very tough grader and a lot of the assignments don't bring up your grade at all. He isn't the best at explaining either.
Professor Freedman is an outstanding teacher! He is funny & knows how to make a math class enjoyable. I found the material and course to be difficult but with attendance and keeping up with assignments it was manageable. Students are given tools & feedback to make progress throughout the entire semester and also provided xtra help when asked for.
Prof. Freedman's a pretty great teacher despite our Calc 3 class being completely-online, he managed to explain a bunch of new concepts in an understandable way. He has a couple slideshow projects and tests that force you to answer the "why" for different theories, but in general his class isn't that hard. Make sure to ask questions, though.
Took him for 190 and I thought it would be easier to just take the same professor for 200 since I already knew how he works but I WAS WRONG! His lectures are so hard to understand and when I try to ask for help, he always answers me in a way that I shouldn't have asked questions in the first place.
If your really want to learn calculus 2& 3 well DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! Because you will regret and waste your time.
Prof. Freedman is a very nice man, however, his class is very hard and rigorous. His class is roughly 80% SAS Computer Programming, and only 20% actual Statistics. I would not recommend this class if you do not have some basic understanding of computer programming, or you will most definitely fall behind.
Had the pleasure of taking Professor Freedman for Math 190 & Math 200. Math has never been my strong suit, but Mr. Freedman does a great job of relating real world examples to his lectures. The main thing is you must show genuine care about learning and wanting to do better. Participate in-class, attend office hours, ask questions. Show you care!
Professor Freedman is one of the worst professor, the way he teaches is really confused, boring lecture. Sas is using to much, when you dont understand how to code because it too much, he doesnt even know as well. I asked him for the long code for project, he only fix the wrong but doesnt provide the missing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Freedman's class involves a lot of coding using SAS, so you better be willing to learn how to code. He has many office hours after class throughout the week and is very helpful. If his class has SI, then I highly recommend attending the sessions and asking questions. He often gives feedback on your assignments so that you know what to do next time.
Fantastic and caring, tries to fit many accommodations and is very understanding to peoples schedules. Very tough class and pretty harsh tests but is always available to reach out for help.
Each week he would post many chapters that we had to read followed by lots of assignments. Assignments were due on Sundays of each week. Always commented on assignments. Responded emails quickly. Uses coding a lot throughout the semester, hardest coding assignment was the final project. Take someone else if you can.
Attendance does matter in this class. I gonna left behind if you miss classes frequently. Materials are hard but you will be able you solved anything when you understand the concept he is trying to teach you. Caring and easy to get access. Always email him and he answer even in the weekends! You need to work a lot and the results always show up!
He's nice and he wants you to succeed, clearly enjoys what he does, will give you all the help you ask for
As I took his stats class, there were lots of assignments every week. The whole stats course is based off of an online textbook that is incredibly rigorous. If you decide to take his Math 200 course, it has to be your top priority. As a professor he is great, he wants you to succeed and will help you in any way he can throughout the semester.
As a professor, he is wonderful. He gives great feedback, helps whenever you need, and teaches very well. The thing is that there is so, so, so much work. If you miss one day, you will be totally lost. I personally do NOT learn well in a 2 hour class filled with straight listening and busy work, but if you can manage that, this is the one for you.
By far my favorite professor that I've had till this point. If you enjoy math, you will love this class. He uses the best analogies that really made me understand the concept. He is always trying to cheer up the class and help us understand. He is always readily accessible in the MESA if you need help. Very great professor. Ask him for help!
This dude is by far one of the best professors I've ever had in my entire life. He makes calculus so interesting and fun to learn. I would say that his class can be a little difficult to most, but it cancels out with his ability to teach and his compassion when helping students.
Professor Freedman is a lenient grader. He drops the lowest exam, homework, and quiz. He genuinely cares about his students. I know I would have gotten a better grade in the class had I been more dedicated to studying. However, there were a number of external factors that prevented me from doing so. Still, I would retake a class with Freedman again
