really bad prof
Tries to put students through too much for a first year Philosophy course. At his best when he doesn't misspell every fifth word. :)
Tries to make the material simpler than the book, nice prof, cool videos.

greta prof, tough subject to teach. well organised entertaining.
i like this guy! he's nice and is pretty easy on students. he does kind of resemble a frog, though :)
OMG! Horrible! Loves southpark *way* to much. Is never prepard. Makes up *bad* notes on the spot. Does not explain clearly. BAD PROF. Change course people, or prof.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He is unprepared, unhelpful and generally incomprehensible. He is unencouraging of his students, can't handle his technology and his exams are idiotic (they don't test your actual knowledge instead they trip you up with word traps)
Mandatory first year Philosophy HAS to be a hard course to teach! Therefore, Prof. Miller did his best, made sure we understood everything before moving on, and was open and understanding with students. And three cheers for all the little extras, like Southpark!
His tests are pretty easy, and he doesn't give any essays. Critical Thinking was the type of course you could learn out of a textbook on your own time, so I think he used it as an excuse to not come prepared. Still a good prof, though.
Great prof, goes easy on you, and the videos are a nice touch of explaining things.
didnt like him, style of teaching sucks, not organized, tests are all over the place, first half of class easy second half he tries to bring ur mark down.
At first, I gave him some credit. Teaching first year philosophy has got to suck. However, any sympathy was lost as he became increasingly unclear and unhelpful and just seemed as if he hated his job and his students.
this is the easiest class in the world, his exams where a joke, and the lectures are mostly movie watching, if your interested in phi im afraid u wont learn too much just the basic arguments; however, it seems to be up to par with what everyone else learned
Test easy, didn't like style of teaching. Unorganized.
this has to be the easiest class in the world, i would recomend taking it as it does not take any of your time and you can get an easy A+ to keep your gpa high
Great class! Funny Guy! Makes lectures informative and entertaining at the same time. Gotta love those movies! Really helps students understand arguments. Draws lots of examples from real life to make it more relatable.
Made otherwise very bland material half-decently interesting. Great sense of humour.
He likes to show movies, especially South Park, which is a nice break from all of the serious classes. However, he draws diagrams in the "Paint" program during class, and types his notes in MS word while he talks - nothing is prepared beforehand. It seems kind of unprofessional.
This class is a riot. Prof. Miller is a really cool man who seems to have made a very poor career choice - not that he's a bad at his job, just that he clearly hates what he's doing. He masks this well by showing lots of silly movie clips and occasionally not cringing when someone asks a question that has been answered 12 times already.
He was awesome, we watched south park and monty python. best class ever
Such a good teacher, show's a some kind of video nearly everyday, keeps it interesting. I don't see how anything I learnt in that class will ever help me in life, however if you do your readings and go to class you can pass with A easily. His midterms and finals are straightforward if you know your material.
i found his tests easy and straightforward. attend class, make good notes, pay attention, and you'll do well. he may seem unprofessional by typing his notes while he's speaking, but at least it slows the pace when difficult material arise. i agree with the possibility that he might not like what he's doing-he seems to lack passion while teaching
This professor is completely uninterested in teaching this course. He sometimes becomes monotone but students almost always have the assumption that he's bored with the material. I wish I had taken the course with someone else.
He seems completely disinterested in teaching this class and I find him quite lazy. All questions were directed to the T.A. and he frequently cancelled classes. Don't let his laziness fool you, he is not an easy marker and for his lack of effort he expects a lot from his students.
speaks in monotone, but i found him very interesting. he jumps around when he explains things but he wants us to understand. you wont be stressed with this class. he wants to make his students do well. a little lazy but whatever, hes a cool dude.
Amazing Prof! I can't understand why he has been hit with low ratings. If you go to class you are sure to get a good mark.
He's a pretty cool guy. Great sense of humor. Quite a bit of reading though but easy tests.
Great course!! I found the topic pretty difficult but Prof Miller makes it interesting. Has a relaxed sense of humor:)
I found this prof disinteresting and lazy. His test were very easy, as were the exams. His lectures were all over the place, which made note taking difficult. However he explains concepts fairly well. I found he showed too many movies for a University class.
this guy is funny!!! class is very easy but its best not to miss to many lectures. the textbooks were cheap but the coursepack was insane to read. he can make difficult things seem easy to understand so for that i give him thumbs up!
Amazing prof! I liked his class but the readings were hard. Don't miss too many lectures He lets you choose the type of exam you want. Awesome!!
Zero lecturing - 100% movies. Miss a class, miss a movie, miss notes, lose marks. Pretty simple. Take notes on EVERYTHING because there are some really random questions from the movies on the quizzes. All open book -- killed the exam. Pretty much told us what was going to be on it.
Great class. He's a funny guy. Goes over stuff pretty well in class.
Not bad for a mandatory course. Wouldn't have taken otherwise but he makes it pretty simple so long as you attend the lectures.
Liked his teaching style, did NOT like his approachability. Refused to let me take a test earlier/later than scheduled despite my family making unchangeable flight plans - and it WASN'T EVEN IN EXAM PERIOD. He's good at teaching, but his midterms ask REALLY random things. So study hard and study everything.
No lecturing, just movies, sometimes could be summerized in a simple 5 minute clip, instead, shows the whole movie. This was a mandatory class, I had no choice, some people do. The class could be interesting, just not with him teaching it.
Loved the funny movies!!! He's a great teacher but I would prefer not to have 3 hour lectures!!!!
I have to admit I learned more in this class than I thought I would going in. This course is one everyone in business has to take. Prof Miller knows his stuff and that makes the difference. He was also easy to talk to after the lectures.
unreal prof. take his classes he is a genius.
I recommend the course because Professor Miller is not anti-Business like other professors I have heard my friends talk about. I was not interested in this class before taking it because it is mandatory and did not seem relevant to business students. But I now think it is useful and recommend Prof Miller's class to other students.
Some of the subject material was interesting. There was only a short midterm and a take-home final. The class was 3 hours and Prof Miller does a good job trying to keep people awake.
I took this class a couple of years ago and remember it as one of the best I took at the university. Very profound stuff. Very profound professor is Dr Miller:)
Very approachable and wants to help you get a good grade.
An excellent teacher.
Awesome Prof. Lets students choose what type of exams they want. Easy A if you attend classes.
Dr Miller is a very good teacher. He is also helpful to people who have English as their second language. I would recommend his course to other students.
Professor Jon Miller almost never replied to my e-mail wasn't really helpful apart from when we all did bad on our Mid-Term Exam he boosted our mark by 10. Overall apart from the Mid-Term Exam it's easy an easy course. Really like take-home exam.
An interesting class. I did well so I recommend it. Exams were easy.
Class was at nighttime for 3 hours. Attended half the classes and still got an A. Prof Miller was pretty cool about it. He gave everyone in the class bonus marks after the midterm exam.
Great professor who really knows how to deliver material. He is really fair. At times he may come across as an uncaring person, but he really wants his students to succeed and he gives them multiple opportunities for that. The note taking was intensive, but I loved going to his class.
Great professor. Loved his class. He should teach more courses. Other professors should learn from him.
Cannot stay on track when teaching a class. Absolutely brutal lecturer. If you can, pls take this class with another prof. Half of the content that you write out as notes makes no sense at all. Screws you over with the 5 mini quizzes that are worth 20 percent of your overall grade.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Terrible class notes. He just writes one or two words on the overhead using microsoft word and size 150 font. Readings are beyond stupid because both of the books required are especially wordy. Biggest garbage course ever! Don't bother trying to contribute in class, he turns every person's comment down. Especially smart ones.
This class was awful. Easy, but awful. No slides. Nothing posted online, at all. Not even office hours or syllabus. Writes a couple words at a time on Microsoft Word then hits enter and writes a few more. Makes for ridiculously bad note-taking. Spends half the class watching movies and seems really unprepared for class. Brutal if you're organized.
by far the worse prof ever, he doesn't post anything online not even a syllabus. Does not prepare you at all for the exam and midterm. He rarely knows what he is talking about. He has no office hours. the class itself is brutal, the books were a nightmare. The class can be interesting but he is just not good at teaching at all
worse prof ever! he doesnt teach you anything, youre basically teaching yourself. Does not post anything online which makes it harder to do well. AVOID THIS PROF!
Great Class!!! He's very funny and knows his stuff. His teaching style is laid back and makes the material easy to understand.
Great class. I looked forward to going although I wish they had chosen a better time than Friday night!!!!!
I liked this class better than I thought I would. It has a lot of reading but if you attend the lectures it is pretty easy to get an A.
Heavy use of the textbooks. But Prof Miller if a very good teacher and you can tell he likes what he is doing. The class discussions were always fun. I would recommend him as a professor.
I like how he is honest about the nature of business. He is not an activist (thank god) but tells it like it is. Refreshing. He also has nice eyes.
He is a great teacher but the topic is sometimes hard to follow. I like how he shows funny movie clips to explain ethical concepts. I would recommend this course (PHI2397) but only if he is teaching it because of his sense of humor.
Loved the class, hated the time-slot. Professor Miller is a great teacher and knows how to keep the students attention. But 3 hours on a Friday night is brutal.
Since it is a mandatory class for business students all I can say is that if you have to take it, Dr. Miller is the best guy to take the course with. He is not an activist and keeps the subject relevant to the world of business. He can also be very funny. He needs to learn to wear a suit though :)
Interesting class. The people who do poorly are the ones who never showed up for class anyway. I went to every class and got an A. Prof Miller is an awesome teacher!!
I found this class to be better than I expected. Professor Miller definitely knows his stuff.
I loved going to this class. Professor Miller is very knowledgeable and very funny. His class made me think about a lot of things.
I found this class to be better than I expected. Dr Miller is a good teacher and is not afraid of controversy. I would recommend his class.
I liked this class. Prof Miller is good at keeping the students attention. Some of the questions he raised in class are ones I talk about with my friends in business. I definitely feel this ethics course was worth my time.
I thought the material was interesting but there was a lot of reading. The students who complain didn't want to do the work or show up for class and thought the class was going to be a freebie. It isn't. I worked hard and got an A. Prof Miller is also a pretty cool guy.
A lot of reading but a good professor who knows his stuff. He knew how to make the lectures interesting. The class is mandatory so I would suggest that you take it with Miller rather than someone else.
He is a great professor and is easy to talk to. The one thing I liked about him was that we not afraid to tell it like it is. Fun class but 3 hours is too long!!!!!
There is a lot of reading but the class is interesting if you choose to pay attention. The prof's lecture style is podium style and not Powerpoint style. So you have to keep that in mind if you choose to take Bus ethics with him. But overall I liked the class. The professor is a funny guy!
He is a great teacher. I didn't think I would like the class but he does a good job at raising interesting questions. He is also good at keeping trouble makers in line. He makes the class enjoyable.
There was a lot more work than I was told there would be from a friend of mine who took the course before. But having said that, I found it to be very interesting and that Prof Miller is a teacher I would like to have again in another course.
Like other people have already said, it is a mandatory course and not many want to have to take it but Prof Miller does a good job at explaining the issues involved. If you do the work and attend the lectures you can get a good mark, otherwise expect to fail. It's not a dummy course.
This class is a lot better than I thought it would be. I like how the professor teaches. He tries to make it interesting (controversial :) which I liked.
The course need a better textbook. Aside form that I found it interesting. The professor is a good teacher. Come to class and pay attention and you'll do well.
It opened my eyes to some things, I can tell you that! I would recommend the course. The prof is excellent.
I took the course because it is essential to my program. It was enjoyable because the Prof is good at what he does but there was too much reading involved.
I liked this class. He has a "Harvard style" of lecturing instead of just clicking through Powerpoint which I liked. The prof knows his stuff but he should wear a suit :)
The professor is a good teacher. I liked this class better than i thought I would. I find that what he says is relevant to business although at the time I was not convinced. I would recommend this class to everyone :)
Not my fav. prof but decent. Tries to impose his values on students; not open to anyone who challenges his opinions. But the course content is clear and as long as you tell him what he wants to hear you will do well.
Not a difficult class, but the professor seemed to slack off after the first 2 months of classes. i would recommend it if you want an easy class.
Not a good class. Probably my least favourite prof. He is boring and narrow-minded. He isnt too hard of a prof. But not worth your time.
The course requires a lot of use of the textbook. The Prof is a good teacher. Shows videos to make it more interesting.
Very engaging, relevant topics with good examples. Assertive prof who will always challenge his students or students trying to challenge him. overall A
Easy ish class, however I did poorly. Focus more on the names, you have to know which dude said what and there was a lot of dudes. 20 % of my mark was 10 mc questions, one of which what car blew up. Text books are useless don't bother. He post no notes, so be prepared to type fast. I enjoyed going to class, lots of movies, I just didn't study right
He is looking more for memorization than knowledge. He is boring and not a very good prof.
The Prof is a great teacher and is willing to help you. The textbook was easy and if you attend classes you will almost certainly get an A.
I liked this class and the professor is a good teacher. I recommend it to others.
It was a fun class because the Prof likes to show videos and is not afraid to be controversial.
He doesn't post any notes, and during his lectures his notes consists of 1 word and no definition; basically blank notes. On top of that he grades your tests but doesn't give you feedback, just gives you a mark. His midterm was questions about videos; didn't post them and they got taken off YouTube, how do I study? Worst prof ever.
He tested us on things that we couldn't reference back to. He shows us videos in class and we have to takes notes from the videos (Why is he a lecturer? Just give us the links so we can sleep in). It's hard to write everything down from the video, so it makes sense to re-watch em, but nope, they got taken off Youtube.
Test questions were straight out of his notes. Three hour class rarely lasted more than 2 hours. Lots of videos to pay attention to.
My biggest regret in university is taking this class with this prof. He is extremely difficult to communicate with, unorganized and belittling. Don't bother with the excessively long readings as he claims you should, you unfortunately need to sit through the lecturestake decent notes to be remotely successful. Avoid at all costs if possible.
Worst prof I've had to date. He does his notes on a Microsoft Word document as he is lecturing and only makes small points so it's important to write everything down. Extremely disorganized, unclear expectations. Avoid this prof if you can.
It astonishes me that so many people are failing this course. This professor is different, accept it and adapt to his teaching style. That's life. Every test covered ONLY what he had said in the lectures-- take note of that! Go to the lectures and focus. The tests basically measure your willingness to pay attention in class. It's simple.
Only problem is that his final take home essay is way too long for the particular topic questions he gave since we covered those topics in less than 2 lectures each, there isn't much to say since the only source we can reference is the book.
I found this professor very easy... go to class, take good notes, read the chapters, listen through his videos and takes notes if you can but honestly if you listen you are good cause he would not ask you very tough questions out of the videos, meet him to ask questions and you are cruising on an A .... basically same old method to ace a course.
He is a great teacher. Students who didn't do well were ones who skipped class or thought the class required no work. Most students are engineers taking a mandatory class. If you go into it with a good attitude you will do well. I got an A but I had to work for it. He has a good sense of humor.
Attend lectures and pay attention. All tests are on content from lectures. Take proper notes yourself on what he is saying, not just what he is typing, 'cause what he types is brief and not made available online. Do that and you'll find the class extremely easy. Only class to ever inspire me. Second textbook (by Tittle) is gold, first one useless.
This is a better class than I thought it would be. Prof Miller is a great teacher who is not afraid of raising controversial topics. I would recommend this class to other business students.
I liked this class and find the professor knows his stuff. It gave me a lot to think about. The classes are long though. And at night. But this was one of my favorite classes.
If you Go to class and take notes on literally everything he says and on all the videos he shows, then you shouldn't have a problem. Make some reference to the textbook but most of the test questions are based on lectures so make sure you attend every class! I honestly wouldn't take him again just cause I prefer to learn from the textbook.
The professor is a nice person. His lectures are sometimes interesting. I liked going to this class.
Don't skip class. Takes lots of lecture notes. And you will do fine. He is a fun professor and I really loved this class because it was something different. I find that the only people who complain about professor Miller are the ones who complain about everything anyway.
He's is really not as bad as everyone says he is! If you show up to all the classes and take really good notes this class should be super easy. Just memorize your notes and you're good to go.
The lectures as all over the place and difficult to take notes or understand fully what he is talking about. His train of thought is not obvious. Try to take lots of notes
Read the textbook and pay attention to what he says is important in lectures. The questions he uses on his midterms are directly from the study questions in the textbook so practice with those. Communicates controversial health topics really well without ever taking a personal stance which is refreshing.
Never covers all the material in class. Midterm questions from textbook. Rarely answers emails. However, he conveys important ethical issues related to health care effectively and from a neutral stance. Overall an alright professor.
Just wrote his final exam a few days ago. Wasn't about learning but about memory for menial details that represent no knowledge at all. Class is easy, exams are easy, final was also easy. Go to class and just write down everything he says (the notes he provides are confusing) and you won't need the textbook at all! If you skip then get the textbook
Greatest professor I've had. His lectures are amazing, he's very controversial (will drop uncomfortable truth bombs here and there that'll piss some people off) which could be funny sometimes. The midterms and final will need you to understand the arguments he makes in class, so simply memorizing the notes will not be enough, you must attend class.
Worst professor I've ever had. Cancelled 3 classes. Keeps cancelling office hours. Ques. on midterms were irrelevant. Most of the people in class failed. Eating banana while lecturing? Really? Very rude. Rarely answers emails. At 10:05 pm, told us to email him for our marks till 10:30! Incompetent TAs who weren't even in their office hrs.
The worst prof I've ever had. Cancelled almost a quarter of our classes, lectured in the most monotonous, jarring way. Cancelled office hours multiple times when I had asked specifically to meet with him. I missed a midterm and after 3 months of bothering him every week he didn't allow me to retake it as originally promised.
Hands down the most unprofessional prof I've ever had. Cancelled a total of 9 hours of class throughout the semester, did not post anything online, and was never prepared for lectures. His lecturing style is to read from the textbook, open a blank word document on the projector screen and type out bits of info. Do yourself a favor and and avoid.
He is a nice person but canceled almost half the lectures we were supposed to have. Reading the textbook helps if you find his lectures confusing. He does not post anything online so you should attend the class.
The midterms are based off the textbook so as long as you read this class is incredibly easy. As for the prof, he didn't show up/cancelled at least half the lectures and won't answer your emails. Seriously, we had one class between the first and second midterm. Really easy A though, at least there's that.
I dont know whats up with these negative comments. Yes, he had to cancel a couple of lectures, but he had a chronic illness. Thats not his fault. Yes, it got frustrating at some times but just do your work on your own. University is meant for you to learn how to study alone, not depend on a prof. His lectures were interesting, and I still got A+
Midterms were super easy as long as you read the textbook. His lectures are basically summaries of the readings assigned anyways so even though he cancels a lot of classes it can easily be made up by reading the textbook. Also, don't understand why people are complaining about canceled classes they were honestly a blessing.
Respectable man, although he canceled at least a quarter of lectures, often showed up late and ended class very early. Never answered emails and lectures were disorganized. Probably wouldn't have passed this class had my friends and I not taught it to ourselves via the textbook. Avoid if you can.
This guy is a genius. You may notice that he never uses filler words such as um or like. Brings up very interesting scientific ideas and is very knowledgeable in his field.
