Thinks that a grade of a C- is good!!! Slammed the door in my friends face when she tried to go and talk to him! Has high expectations yet he wont explain any of the assignments that he gives you. He enjoys having power over students.. no encouragement.

If you enjoy having your intelligence questioned and don't mind a teacher who tries to make you look stupid when he is in a sour mood, by all means, take his course.

Not helpful, doesn't clarify what is required for assignments, says "you'll find out when I mark it"

This guy is the devil! He refuses to give out A's and won't help you to improve. He is ona power struggle... please don't take his class - you'll regret it!

He comes out and says that no one will get an 'A' because no one deserves one. He marks by a weird system, and will not clarify any assignments or topics. He did not lecture for our course, but instead personally attacked students for 3 hours a week.

This guy is not only a horrible teacher, but his a horrible person. He thinks all poepele are stupid and do not deserve a good mark. He does not teach but instead he ridicules and humiliates students in front of the whole class for 3 hours.

I'm sorry, but a C, is NOT a good grade. Even if he says so. there shouldn't be putting rude comments on papers. Everyone in our class is having a tough time with this guy. This guy is not worth taking a class with. No A's handed out! (3 in this 30 years)

In my 3 years at D.C. I have never had such a bad experience. He belittles, ridicules, and patronizes. He admits that he teaches because he can't get his Sci-Fi work published. Total looser! NOT helpful, refused to give help! Don't take a class with him.

John Paul is one of the worst teachers I've ever had! He knows the books, but is not helpful nor does he really care if you don't get it! He is an extremely hard marker, our class got a c- average on our first essay! RIDICULOUS!Don't take him,save your $$

He should stick with writing his sci-fi novels. Treats adult students like grade-school children and with disrespect. The readings he chooses are boring. His ego is unjustifiably huge. He is a terrible speller, yet supposedly an english teacher.

He spends far too much time judging his students. He asks for class input yet belittles them when they speak out. His writing style isn't the greatest. He is arrogant!

Worst teacher on earth!! He refuses to give good marks! In my English 130 class (with an other teacher) I had an A- but in his English 109 class I got a C! What the FU*K! and he is arrogant and his lecture notes are BORING!!!

Quite possibly the worst teacher i have ever encountered. Humiliates students, criticizes without being constructive, poor class-planning. He is a bitter, contemptuous, impotent little man who has no business teaching. STEER CLEAR!!!!!

John man, understand you gotta pay the bills, but why are you teaching? it is obvious his love of teaching is non-existent. Maybe he should try another profession that would be of more benefit to him, teaching just is just not your thing john.

Extremely Super BAD teacher ever!! He won't help u if u have any question. Assignments instruction very unclear and he won't explain it to u. I thought it's a beginner course, but it's like a 3rd yr course if he's teaching.

An ass of a teacher, he humiliated most students and brought down my GPA. Im not a slacker and I worked damn hard and my GPA still went from 3.8 to 3.5 with this crazy little man. He should be fired. He is unclear and his class is a bore with no point. RECOMMEND U DONT TAKE IT!

Worst teacher in 5 years of post sec. ed. MEAN, RIDICULING. Refused to help me after class or during office hours and refused to refer me to learning centre. Completely uninterested in teaching and doing a good job - SAVE YOURSELF! Take this class with someone else. I still have nightmares 2 yrs after. You won't learn anything except insecurity.

he is extremely arrogant, when asked for help. he answers with, "that was covered in class! Check your notes! werent you listening? Hargh!" Yet, it was never covered - the whole class had no clue. and he interrupts during presentations, which is very rude, disturbing and unneccesary.

he's not necessarily mean per se, however, he is not helpful. his instructions are completely unclear and he will never try to claify them because he thinks his explanations are perfect. the only novels he assigned for reading were sci-fi and was rude when people stated opinions in class. WORST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER..stay away!!!

Horrible Horrible Teacher, very hard marker, complains when people don't participate but if you do contribute he puts you down and tells you're wrong!

I took a themes in literature course with this guy in 2000 and after completing my seventh year of schooling I still refer to him as "the worst teacher i ever had". He was more concerned with trying to impress us with pointless drivel about science fiction than anything with scholastic substance. Definately played favourites! Still makes me angry!

People don't change. Check out his ratings for the last five years and you can see he's still the worst teacher. He's no teacher - he's a bully lacks character and social abilities. Take him only if you want a lowered GPA.

JP, is rude. He insults students directly in front of others. You ask him a question, he goes off on a tangent, 20 minutes later he still hasnt answered the question. He leaves all his assignments until the end of the semester, then you rush to get them done. Taking his class was a BAD decision. I wish I knew about this site before I took the class

Worst professor I have ever had. He is rude and condescending. He leaves three 1000 word papers for the last 3 weeks of class. They are confusing articles we must review, and are either boring politics or they are an article which he has edited. Does not give a's and the class average is a C, he will lower your g.p.a.

Worse teacher I have ever had! My final grade had been posted but I have not received my last 3 assignments back from him yet! Assignments discussed first class but topics given at the last minute and what he wanted included in the essays changed at the last minutes. Reading material is very old and boring! Avoid this teacher!!

Worst professor I have had in 4 years. Rude, disrespectful, has a very large ego. For an introductory class, he has absolutely no patience. Books are dusty old tomes that are expected to be read within a week (500+ pages). Quizzes are on small, easily missed details of books. Paper topics are vague, and he is thrilled to get a low grade.

He is more than rude and disrespectful, he knows he is in control of grades.

Overall worst teacher I have had, wish I knew about this site before. Expectations were way too high for a 1st yr course, the teacher noted in his life of teaching he has only handed out a handful of A's because he believes in order to receive an A your work must be publishable. Jon is a very tough marker and believes that you only deserve an A if your work is worthy of being published. On average, about 4 people got a B for each assignmenttest, no one got higher. If you have a simplistic writing style, he says it is too "journalistic" and takes marks off. His essay questions are hidden within a 4 paragraph asgnt. sheet.

Difficult to pass this course as he is very vague about assignments as well as has a lot of long papers. Attendance is a must, otherwise you will miss a bunch of material the next assignment is based on.

This professor does not in any way teach you how to write at the university level, which is the entire purpose of the course. Instead he likes to have pointless discussions, and then give us large and intimidating assignments without actually teaching us on how to do them. Jon has completely skipped the point of this class. Absolutely horrible.

Don't take any class by Jon Paul unless you have a masochistic desire to endure misery for four months. His lectures are achingly long and it's difficult to figure out what's worth writing down. He clearly resents teaching and doesn't care about the students at all (he went the whole semester without bothering to learn most of our names). Horrible.

The most disorganized, disrespectful professor. Late for every class, can't keep track of when assignments are due, almost all assignments are due in the last 2 weeks of class. Seems to hate teaching, thinks he is better than students, and uses his lectures to insult people and name drop. Save yourself the headache, don't take his classes.

JP spends 90% of the mandatory lectures off topic and forgets to tell you things, shows up next lecture surprised you have no idea what he is talking about. He assigns things randomly, with little explanation and marks hard. He left 2 essays and four other written assignments until the 2nd last class (totalling over 2500 words). Do not recommend.

Worst prof ever... He was so hard to get in touch with outside of class time (claims he doesn't know how to use the internet) his notes are super random and don't go with his lecture at all. His lectures are very dry and don't try to leave the class at any time because he will call you out on it.

Seems to grade assignments while comparing them to published works. Therefore, if your assignment is not worthy of being published, you will not receive an A. Quite unfair considering this is a first year English course.. doesn't make sense.

My first exposure to a University-level English course, I took the English assessment prior and I did quite well. In this class, I was highly unsuccessful. Unfortunately, although his lecture content can be interesting, he spends most of the lecture off topic and he is an extremely hard marker with very little room to improve throughout the term.

This was an amazing experience. Clearly, Dr. Jon loves himself more than his students, with the exception of one pretty girl, who he drooled over. Creep!

Never taking this prof again. Said to him in confidence about my social anxiety and being in groups was difficult, and what does he do.. comes up and speaks at my in front of my group (let me note that main fear of social anxiety is a fear of being embarrassed) which is what he did. His lectures are completely dry and he's just all over the place.

JP is vague and grades first year students like they are accomplished academics and admits just as much at the begining of the year. Saying he almost never gives out A's on written assignments despite not really teaching how to do the assignments, or how to write for that matter. For an academic writing course, he misses the mark big time.

JP only gives out variations of C's. If you take his class, expect a minimum of a C- or a max of C+. If you're assignment has 0 errors, conceptually or grammatically, you will only receive a C+. There is absolutely no way he will grade anyone higher, even if they hand in an amazing assignment. Do not take his class if you value your GPA at all.

He is super tough at grading, his prompts and criteria for papers is very vague. Goes off topic from lectures, and is unclear on what you should study for final. He calls people out and makes you feel like all your questions are stupid.

His lectures are terrible and he just has no clear reason on grading. Please don't take his course.. you'll suffer in pain.

He will openly shame you, disrespect you and single you out in front of everybody. If you struggle with social anxiety, he WILL traumatize you. He preys on the weak.

I regret taking Jon-Paul. He is very intellectual and has great knowledge to give, but doesn't know how to teach it. The smartest kid in our class got a C+ and that was impressive. Jon-Paul told the whole class that "I will never give you higher than a C+" and "Just be a better writer!" Didn't learn anything and dropped my GPA. BEWARE SERIOUSLY!!!!

There are no relations between his lectures and the assignments that he designates. I would think twice before taking any kind of classes with him! It will drop your GPA!

His lectures dont match up with the assignments. Besides C+ is the highest grade he would give in his class. Not accessible outside the class. He is very rude and doesn't give proper answers to your queries. DON'T GO FOR THIS PROFESSOR! It would make your GPA fall !!

The actual worst. I am an accomplished writer (have worked as a writer professionally), and got my lowest grade ever in this english class. I asked if he could tell me how to improve on the next assignment, he said 'not really' and gave no direction whatsoever. He is bitter and condescending to students... stay away!

Jon-Paul claims that barely any students in college and university will get A's and already that was a red flag. I've taken second year courses, but came back to this first year course of his, and was literally the hardest class I've taken, simply because your work needs to be perfect. Even while teaching online, his interactions are condescending

I would not recommend taking this professor.

- Doesn't communicate with students outside of class (doesn't respond to emails, & doesn't use Blackboard to post lecutre content for absent students). - His "syllabus" doesn't give you a clear time line of due dates or assessments. - Very condescending; shuts down student's ideas. Save yourself & don't take his classes.
