Very good teacher, would recommend having him for Astronomy. He explains everything very well although his exams are kind of difficult. Very nice man (he even bought the class of almost 50 donuts to help explain about galaxies).
wonderful guy. ask him about the egg demo! tests are a bit difficult. but the cheat sheet helps :)
Had this gentleman for high school science when he was a high school teacher (1976). He was the absolute best ! Well loved by his students!
brilliant man, nicest. had him in hs and he was the most helpful, supportive guy there
Best teacher I've ever had, period. Exams can be a little challenging, but he makes the material so fun and interesting that you barely notice. He explains things very well, and gives lots of real-world examples. I highly recommend him. Had him for a year now, and I'm really going to miss him.
I had Dr. Secaur for a teacher at Roosevelt HS about 12 years ago. He also tutored me when I took Physics at KSU a few years later. He is one of the best teachers I ever had. He is brilliant and makes learning fun. You won't go wrong if you take a class from him. He's fantastic!! :)
Great professor, great class!
Didn’t think I would like physics (art major), but then John Secaur came along. He is funny, smart, and practical. You WILL understand physics after this class. Saying that he is very clear at explaining things is an understatement! Thetests in this class are easy because you actually understand the material thanks to him.
Very understanding. Will help you out if you have problems. Uses many examples you can relate too.
He was def. a good professor and explains things really well! If you take 7 ideas, make sure u have him as a professor!
Extremely good, makes complicated ideas seem simple. Has a good sense of humor and will always help with homework and projects.
he is so awesome, the nicest teacher ever. he takes it slow and leaves lots of time for discussion or questions. grading is determined on homework, attendance, tests and a few labs that are fun and easy. he does a lot of demos and even gave out free donuts to the whole class once!!!!!
He is a good professor. He is very fun and a great person to talk to.
I love Dr. Secaur. I had him as a high school teacher, and he is more than willing to give you extra help, and really is able to relate to students and treat them like people, unlike some professors. He is sometimes more difficult, but makes up for it tenfold in teaching ability! If you want to succeed he will be right there helping you.
Awesome teacher! He is so helpful. Though his tests are pretty tricky, he gives you a lot of other work so you can pass the class easily.
I originally signed up for Barrick's section but am glad I ended up in this guy's class instead. Dr. Secaur's tests are more difficult, and he assigns more homework than the other two professors, but he's easily the best teacher I've had at Kent State, hands down. He has a great sense of humor and makes coming to class something to look forward to.
Secaur is awesome. He is one of the best teachers i've ever had. He teaches and tests you concepts that you can remember, not little details that aren't important. The tests are a little tough but they account for only a little more than half of your grade (the rest through attendance, homework that he gives all the answers to, and easy labs)
Jon Secaur is the man. No sense in even discussing this one. If you have had one of his classes than you know what I mean.
Awesome teacher! He is the only science teacher I ever had that actually taught me anything I could remember or understand! I wish he taught more classes so I could have him more than one semester!
Buahhaha he is great! so funny... he knows everybody's name in a huge 250 person lecture room! WOW.. act impressed dog on it!
Easy class, you get points for attending, and just do the simple assignments on time, and the midterm/final is pretty hard so dont rely everything on them, in this class you shouldnt have to though
One of the most amazing teachers I've ever had. I have a hard time learning things, and he taught me quite a bit. Funny, and an all around amazing teacher. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great Professor. Funny and easy going. Understanding, too. You'll have fun.
This guy is great, best PHY professor i've had. Clear speaking, fun classes, and has time for days outside of class. Go to his office hours and he will love you for it
i hate science and he makes it interesting. GREAT TEACHER. goes above and beyond for his students. you can tell he enjoys what he does. loved him.
Excellent teacher. All you have to do is go to class and you will pass with at least an A.
Loved him! really easy class. the tests were the only thing that were even mildly difficult. He's really helpful and funny, and this was the only class i've had this semester i actually didn't mind going to.
You can tell he knew that most of the students were from outside the physics department, and he really tried to make the material as easily understandable as possible. Most of what we learned was pretty comprehensible, but the last few weeks were a bit more difficult. Great professor, highly recommend this class!
great prof. stupid yet cute sense of humor, makes class really interesting. shows lots of weird movies and he does lots of little experiments to explain the topic better. going to class is a must, u dont use the book. i never opened it, save ur money. i had him for honors n still got an a, just go to class, its actually fun
Great professor. i hate science and he made it somewhat enjoyable. very friendly and helps when you need it. Dont need the textook EVER. Go to class, its actually entertaining and I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM.
A very nice guy, but isn't the best at explaining everything. Boring class even if you like science.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I'VE HAD!!!SOOOOO HILARIOUS the test r easy and you can turn n homework an extra week late(7 ideas)take it
GREAT teacher!! definately recommend this guy! he makes everything so enjoyable even if you don't like the topic. his witty sense of humor is just icing on the cake.
Professor Secaur is really a great teacher. He made learning physics fun and he his test are very fair....he is also understanding when it comes to hw and projects and even attendance....i would recommend that you take him if you take 7 ideas...
mr. secaur is a fantastic guy/professor. i can't stand science and he made it fun and interesting for me. you can tell he cares about his students. one of the best professors i've had.
7 Ideas was a very straight forward class. Would recommend this teacher over other because he does not teach anything about math. So if you do not like math, take him. Very easy A if you go to class!
If you like to know what you're learning, don't take this class. He gives you concepts, and 33 questions tests and expects you to apply the things you are supposed to "know." If you can memorize things easily, take it. If you can't understand things easily, it's not worth your time. It hasn't been worth mine at all and I would never recommend him.
So easy and helpful! I had him for 7 Ideas and he tells you whats on the exam and doesn't make you memorize formulas.
Secaur is an amazing teacher. You can tell his extreme passion for physics. I strongly recommend him!
Dr. Secaur is an amazing professor. Science, especially physics, had never been my strong point, but Dr. Secaur makes it easy to understand. You can tell he really loves what he is teaching and wants his students to have fun learning it. I would definitely recommend taking any class with Dr. Secaur.
A little too easy, but for the sake of keeping everyone engaged. Big on stories and conversations. Interesting demos and fun anecdotes that make the material relateable. He really knows his stuff and is passionate about physics. I love his cheesy jokes!
Awesome teacher. Definitely cares about his students and you can tell he really loves what he's doing. Makes every thing easy to understand. The only bad things is that he talks too much sometimes. He also tells a lot of really cheesy jokes, but overall take this class with him!
7 ideas-boring but easy. go to class for points. bring your laptop and go on fb the whole class. very nice guy. never paid attention and got 93 on both midterms. easy projects, easy A.
Well-prepared and knowledgeable. I enjoy his cheesy jokes as well. Coming to class at 850 is rather difficult, but when I do, it pays off. Learn something new every time, whether the subject is boring or not. Physics isn't for everyone, but this man knows his stuff and will do what he can to help his students understand it. I recommend him.
Knows what he is talking about and is willing to help you but if physics is not your strong point you will have to go get extra help from him because notes are not always clear. Time management is an issue. Demos are fun. Class is mostly about waves. Connection to E+A is not always clear.
A phenomenal teacher, he really cares about his students. He really tries his hardest to make even the most complicated of physics easy for students to understand. I'd highly recommend anyone to take any class he teachers.
Hands down my favourite professor. I am not a science person at all, but I enjoyed going to his 7 Ideas class. It's really easy as long as you go to the classes because he explains things so well. He puts lecture notes online and is available for help any time. I would recommend him to anyone.
Hands down my favourite professor. I am not a science person at all, but I enjoyed going to his 7 Ideas class. It's really easy as long as you go to the classes because he explains things so well. He puts lecture notes online and is available for help any time. I would recommend him to anyone.
Great teacher. Makes class interesting and is very easy to approach. The subject matter is hard so make sure you attend class - also, he takes attendance, 2 points per class, which helps in the end. Definitely take him.
The Man, just the man
This class was great, a must take class. He tried to make the class funny and entertaining. Test are easy as long as you study. He is so good that he now has a facebook page of all his followers. Best class at KSU main. Gives out extra credit but you really won't need it. Easy A class.
He is an amazing professor! Probably my favorite professor thus far. He tries to make physics interesting and fun. He is very nice man and is easy to approach with questions. As much as I hate science, I really enjoyed his class. I would definitely recommend taking any class with Dr. Secaur!
Secaur is an excellent professor, I liked him so much that I'm actually taking another physics class with him next semester, which is saying something since I detest science and physics. He's fantastic and makes everything really clear, plus he's really approachable!
I had Dr Secaur before he was "Dr" Secaur. He was both my HS physics, and my 7 ideas teacher. He is very approachable and wants all his students to not only pass, but to understand the material as well. I am a UA student, and I have one more Physics class to take. I will take his class as a transient student if he teaches it. Dr Secaur? A+
He's great, plain and simple. His classes are a lot of fun and he relates difficult concepts really well. His tests are hard, but they're mostly online. Anyone who needs science classes for an LER should take his classes.
Prof. Secaur is a really kind person. But he can be very off-the-wall and hard to follow. People often fell asleep in class because he simply loses you during the lectures. Don't buy the book, you won't need it. When it comes down to it, Secaur is a very easy grader. Tests are impossible if you don't go to his study sessions.
Prof. Secaur is a great and very nice person. But he has very cheesy jokes and sometimes gets a little bit off the subject but it is interesting the whole time.
Best science teacher I've ever had. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, yet kind, humble, and approachable. He wants you to understand the content, and he wants you to pass. All but his final exam were online, and he let you turn in homework up to one class day after it was due without penalizing you.
Prof Secaur is the best professor I have ever had. His exams are online and homework is graded based on whether you did it or not. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Takes attendance once in a while for points. GREAT PROF TO TAKE.
Such a fantastic teacher. Helps students gladly. Shows real interest in the subject and has great experiments and examples. If you go to his study sessions, you can do well in his class, but if you never attend class or study sessions don't expect an easy A. Best physics teacher at Kent without a doubt.
Wonderful teacher. So genuine and helpful. I loved him in high school and at the university level!
I think Secaur is a bone head. He tries to be funny but he's not. I rather someone get their lesson across without any personality rather than someone who tries to be funny but fails at teaching a lesson. His class is the most boring class I've taken in my life. You will learn absolutely nothing from being in his class. I couldn't tell you a thing.
Fun and very, very easy. All the tests except for the final were completed online. You also don't need the book at all.
Secaur is awesome. 7 ideas is the easiest class ever. It's physics with no math and he explains things simply. He gives a ton of points for attendance so you do have to go to class.
Took 7 ideas online--it was highly unorganized, directions were unclear. Secaur seemed like a nice guy but I'm mad I took it online--I think the subject would have been a lot easier in person. Don't take it online.
I had Dr. Secaur for 7 Ideas this past semester, and he was awesome! One of the best teachers I've had so far. Fun, hilarious, and educational class. You learn a lot, and you don't stress about your grade. Def recommend him.
Had Him for Physics in Entertainment and Arts. Exactly like Seven Ideas. Easy class if you've had any kind of physics before. gives random attendance points but they really can help your grade. Secaur was an awesome professor and really great lecturer. definitely made class very interesting to go to. Highly Recommend this class and professor!
My favorite professor. He is an excellent teacher and is funny and tells great stories. There is also no book! I had him for 7 ideas. That class is really interesting and a lot of fun. I looked forward to going to class.
Fun, clear, and very fair. It's obvious he enjoys what he does, and he often goes out of his way to make it enjoyable for others. Go to class and take good notes and you'll do well.
Awesome Dr! Guy was hilarious, loved physics. Was the first class at Kent worth going to at all. Willing to help! Met with me outside of class and was very helpful!
Very good professor and seemed to truly enjoy teaching. Exams are for the most part exactly what he says they will be.
I had Prof. Secaur for Physics in the Entertainment and the Arts and this class is AMAZING! He explains everything so even a 5 year old could understand. He's always available for help!
Professor Secaur was awesome! He enjoyed the material, respected his students, and tried to make his class enjoyable and relevant to every major. His tests were very fair as long as you put in the effort.
Too easy, if you are having a hard time in his classes please go retake 8th grade. We spent 4 weeks on gravity and 2 days on quantum mechanics... Nice guy for sure but not even university level difficulty. Boring. Easiest classes I've ever taken in my life. If the tests were hard, you were in the wrong building...also took phys entertainment/arts.
He was a great teacher! I didn't get a great grade in his physics class but he was so enthusiastic about the subject that it made it easy to learn from him. He shows a lot of knowledge on the subject and is very understanding. He gave me a lot of extra credit so I wouldn't fail. All around great guy!
Had him for physics 1, best prof. I've ever had @ KSU. I attended all classes and he ended up rounding up my grades due to me asking him questions and having a positive behavior. I wish he would teach Phys 2, but Emmons is good as well.
Best Teacher at Kent State!! I love this guy, everyone needs to take his classes. Gives extra credit and explains things so everyone can understand. Secaur is the man
Best 8:15am professor I have ever had! hate my morning classes, but I loved his! and I'm terrible at physics, but he made it so easy!
Have taken 2 of his classes online (7 Ideas and Physics in Art and Entertainment) and he is just a great professor. His examples are pretty straightforward and the material is easy enough (for a physics class). Great professor.
LOVED HIM! So much extra credit, replies quickly to emails, practically gives you the answers for everything. Take this for a relatively easy science core.
I took 7 Ideas That Shook the Universe online. This class was okay but make sure you have time to dedicate to it. Professor Secaur is a little corny but he is a good professor. Take advantage of all the extra credit he offers and you will be fine.
Jon makes the class a lot of fun. He dresses up at Aristotle and other ancients, he has great videos, he lets class members play different people in history. It is a great class.
He is a great professor and a really like able guy
He's a very entertaining teacher who will always keep you smiling. :)
John is funny and passionate, one of the best science professors at KSU
Absolutely one of the best professors Kent State University has. So glad I had. Very funny & has a passion to make sure ALL students understand the material. Very available for help. THE BEST. I HIGHLY recommend him!
Great guy. So funny. Keeps lecture interesting. Makes exams as easy as he can. Just study and do the homework and you will get an A.
It was refreshing to have a professor be genuinely interested in not only the subject, but in teaching it as well. He's an understanding guy and always wants to help his students. Overall, I am very pleased that I took this class & will recommend this class (or any other ones Secaur teaches) to other students.
Awesome teacher. Really cared about subject and made it fun. Didn't try and stump you, wanted you to learn. Definitely would recommend for anything
Loveeee Secaur. I barely scraped through his class but it was my fault. He is very helpful and the tests are mostly conceptual which is really nice. If you put in some effort into this class it would be easy to get a good grade. He sometimes takes attendance and gives points for being there. Gives breaks halfway through. Highly recommend him.
kinda funny
Awesome professor. He includes funny stories that relate to the material and help you remember. He doesn't try to trick you and he gives you practice tests that are very helpful. I highly recommend him for Entertainment and the Arts.
I took seven ideas online ! This class was pretty easy if you are dedicated. I got an A. Make sure you do your quizzes and projects on time and you are good to go! There are no exams (: Taking this class online was one of my best decision I made this semester! Don't bother buying the book I never used it
I took this class online and definitely thought he was good at it. His slides were funny and informational. I struggled a bit but I'm not a huge science person. Really nice and there for help if you need it.
Super nice guy
Dr. Secaur was the greatest professor I ever had I took the online 7 Ideas class with Dr. Secaur and he was prompt to answer any questions I ever had, flexible with deadlines if you had reasonable excuses, and incredibly friendly and personable. At Christmas time he sent us templates to make Einstein and Schroedinger snowflakes!
Such a great professor! He presented the material in a way that was easy to understand, and he made sure that you knew what was going to be on exams. If you need help with anything just ask. I would definitely recommend taking any of his courses!
One of the absolute best professors I had in four years on campus! He really wants you to do well in his class, and it willing to work with you if you ask. Exam material is made clear. The Best!
He sings songs in class and is really interesting. He's very understanding and his tests weren't too hard. I recommend him!
Dr. Secaur is fantastic! I took him for general physics I, and he made the class really fun and understandable for non-physics majors. He has a lovely personality and will work really hard for you to understand the material. He also allows you to use a notecard for formulas during exams. He is great and I frequently recommend him to friends!
First thing's first: TAKE THIS CLASS (7 Ideas) ONLINE. I spend maybe 15 minutes on it per week and only lost one point (due to a rounding error). The only grades are quizzes which you can take an infinite amount of times and what are basically high school physics-level worksheets. You don't need to do any of the assigned readingsvideos, either.
Jon Secaur is one of the best profs I've had and I had him with an online course. He's funny, informative, and makes physics exciting and easy to understand. The class was easy peasy but I still feel like I learned a lot. Take this prof.
A fantastic professor. Incredibly friendly, straight-forward and entertaining lectures. You miss a point for every class you miss, but he gives 20 points of extra credit the first week. Exams are multiple choice and EASY if you go over the slides and memorize the info. Gives tips on his exams. Missed like 10 classes, still passed with an A.
Secaur is one of the top professors at Kent. With his online classes, he allows office hours during the week and when you go in he allows you to do all assignments with him to fully understand the material. He releases all the work at once and allows you to finish the class early if thats what you choose. His knowledge of Physics is remarkable.
I am not good at science but he made everything easy to understand. Tests were very easy and he offers extra credit. I studied the morning of or the night before for all of the tests and got Bs
Great Professor!! He is really educated and knows what he is talking about. All the notes are on online that he goes over in class. Lets you leave early from class all the time.
Go to class bc he randomly gives attendance credit. Attendance and online hw are half of your grade. He even re-opened online hw near the end of the semester. Exams are the other half of your grade, are easy as long as you look at all the material he posts for that module on Learn. He lets you use a cheat sheet on exams (a whole page!).
This class was basically about sound and light waves. It was easy because he is really good at breaking down the information. He often avoids using confusing terminoligy so you can understand right away. There's not much homework and he usually will go over hw in class the day before it is due. There are very few hw's that I actually did at home.
Great professor. Randomly takes attendance so go to class! Only need textbook code for online homework which is about half your grade. He goes over some of the "puzzles" in class occasionally. Posts notes on Learn. Willing to give extra credit and extend due dates if needed.
Dr. Secaur is just a great guy. He genuinely wants to see his students learn and he has more patience than I could ever muster. If you have the chance to take his class, you won't regret it.
No exams. Just daily works
He is amazing and super helpful! Lectures are fun and entertaining and the class is easy.
I actually enjoyed taking the class. Was having trouble with submitting some projects and he was really helpful with helping me. For a non science major, the class was really easy with a light coursework of only 7 "big" projects (which took me 10 mins t0 40 minutes to do) and 10 quizzes. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Awesome professor. I was not looking forward to Physics 1 but he made is so easy and understandable. His lectures are kind of long but he makes them funny. Taking him for physics 2 in the fall. Wish he taught every class.
Secaur is relatable and funny. His lectures can get boring, but he always makes jokes. He got to know students by name. Lots of extra credit, extended due dates, easy grading, very few homeworks. There are 4 multiple choice tests including the final, which is cumulative! Just use the reading guides and study a little. Will take again. Loved him.
Great teacher, clearly has taught this class for years, very organized. Was very encouraging when I wanted to work ahead. I'm a science major and had to take this beginner class so it was easy for me but had very in-depth directions so everyone could figure it out. Everything due on Sunday at midnight. Great Professor.
I took 7 Ideas online and I loved it! The class was a nice, easy class that I did not necessarily have to worry about too much during the week. You have short Idea Modules pretty much every week and a short quiz on each chapter every week. You can take the quizzes as much as you want too and he will help if needed! If you can, take this online!!!
Seven Ideas that Shook the Universe was my first college class and it was an absolutely amazing way to begin this experience! Prof. Secaur was funny, intelligent, and cares about what he does. Although this class isn't the hardest, you do learn a lot of interesting material. Definitely want to take another class of his! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Great and helpful professor, he will explained the materials if you don't understand. Attend class helps a lot, and the exams are from the lecture he thought.
Jon is an awesome professor. Very easy grade if you complete the assignments. He really cares about your grade, and scientific knowledge. I would take the class again.
Dr. Secaur is very helpful and his lectures are entertaining. Due to medical problems I had to miss a lot of class and an exam. Dr. Secaur was very approachable and understanding. He never made me feel like I was bothering him. He was so helpful and cared to help me succeed.
It was just a basic one-credit seminar, so I don't know about his grading style. But he's a really nice guy who wants to get everyone interested in physics. He's got a lot of resources for whatever you end up being interested in.
So so so easy! Great GPA booster!! Finished a full semester online class in just 10 days. There is about 7 quizzes that you can take as many times as you want. There is about 7 easy assignments. If you do bad, all you have to do is email him and ask if you can resubmit and he will let you! He will always leave comments on what you missed.
He is full of dad jokes and makes hard concepts easily understood. I tried to takes physics in high school and had to drop because it made no sense, but taking it with Secaur I have passed every test with at least a B
The greatest professor ever! I had him for 7 Ideas and he was able to make the hardest concepts easily comprehensible to anyone. Very kind soul, very flexible, amazingly interesting lectures, great at answering questions, super open minded. I would talk to him in office hours just to learn more from the guy. Best class at Kent. Seriously. Take him
Professor Secaur makes physics enjoyable. He answers emails right away and is always in his office hours. He makes horrible jokes (in a good way) and is one of the nicest professors I've ever had.
I am not someone who usually writes ratings, but I got to say Dr. Secaur is amazing. He not only cares about his students, he also wants you to be as passionate about physics as he is. I thought his physics 2 exams were hard (because it was so different than the practice exams and exercises) but he is so helpful and nice I really enjoyed his class.
Dr. Secaur is hands down my favorite professor I've ever had and possibly favorite teacher overall. I have never left a review on this site but I feel like I owe it to the man because of just how good he is at what he does. Genuinely looking forward to taking physics I & II just for him to be my instructor.
This class was so easy, and Professor Secaur made it as "fun" as Physics can be! Two pages of homework and two 10 question quizzes (that you can take as many times as you want) due every 3 weeks. Very reasonable. Gives great feedback. Accept late work and doesn't dock you for it. Overall a great guy and a very laid-back professor.
He had a lot of enthuiasm and told jokes which helped make the class more interesting and fun. I took this course for College-Credit Plus so it may have been a little more difficult for me since I'm 17. The material was simple and clear. The book for the course is notes and outlines that he made so it's light reading. Tons of extra credit.
Here are some facts about Jonny Seeks: 1: Jon never lies, the truth is what is wrong 2: Oxygen needs Jon to survive 3: In school teachers used to raise their hands to talk to Jon 4: Jon missed two days of school in a row. Those days are now called Saturday and Sunday. I would say more but I ran out of characters. Take his class & find out more
I took seven ideas online and not only is it one of the best classes I've taken at Kent, it's by far one of the easiest! Passed with a 100%, literally, I didn't miss a single point.
Great professor, knows his stuff. Weekly quizzes and lab assignments are pretty easy.
Online Entertainment and the Arts. Best presented online class I've had. You can take the quizzes (9) over and over and over until you get 100%. They count 1/3 of class. Homework (9) counts 2/3rds. Extra credit which is to review 3 online videos counts as one quiz. You can get an average of 79% on homework and still get an A. HW has help! EASY!
Jon is hilarious, he always put in effort to make his lectures interesting and unique. He's a sweetheart.
This professor is absolutely wonderful, very understanding and helpful. You get a few grades throughout the semester most are based on the Exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is taken as a grade at the end of the year. He loves what he does and is super interested in it. I would recommend him to anyone
I LOVE DR. SECAUR. I wish I had him in class, because he would be such a fun person to have in class, however he was very encouraging in his online class and gave great feedback. He also was awesome at getting back to you and staying in touch throughout the course. Overall, he was absolutely amazing and I would take him again and again and again.
the 7 ideas class is one of the most interesting yet easily comprehensible classes i have taken in my academic career. you can tell secaur really cares about what he does and he always emails some side articles & other fun things. my favorite was the physics-themed christmas carols. super nice & a really cool prof.
7 Ideas That Shook The Universe left me SHOOK. You can tell Professor Secaur really knows and cares about what he's teaching. He made sure the lectures were fun and easy to learn. You get so much out of this class and it's only just the basics.
Super easy class to take if you need to fulfill a kent core credit or just need more credits! You have a weekly quiz (which can be found on quizlet) and an assignment to do. The assignments are super easy. He also lets you redo quizzes and homework all semester long to get better grades no matter the due date!
Coming from someone who couldn't care less about the subject matter, but does a great job at trying to captivate us. Lots of puns, in a good way. Unlimited tries of every quiz. The class is structured like a play (acts, scenes). For an online class, it was pretty decent compared to others. Definitely recommend for an easy A as long as you try.
Jon Secaur is, simply put, the best physics professor in the great state of Ohio. This man is smart, funny, and really wants you to learn. He will go over the material as many times as you need, and is the most accessible professor to get into his office hours. Take Mr. Secaur's class and you will not be disappointed.
He is such a hilarious and positive person. He has the talent to make complicated, wordy concepts and transform them into concepts that actually make sense. I have heard nothing but nice things about him, and there is a reason I am taking another class he teaches! You should take his class for sure! He is quick to answer e-mails, which is a bonus.
When I get older I want to be Jon Secaur. That is all.
This is my second time taking Dr. Secaur, and my only complaint is that I will never have Dr. Secaur for a class again. I LOVED his class! He applies lessons to the real world, and I still remember what he taught me. He is also hilarious! The class consists of homework and quizzes that can be taken online over and over again without a time limit.
Best professor ever.
He gives good feedback and he is accessible outside of class. No Final and no Exams.
Jon is a treat to have for a professor. The class is one of the easiest I've taken, and he's fun for an online course. Just a heads up, for one of the assignments he has in the early portion of the course, you will need a partner. Also, quizzes can be taken over and over again until you get a perfect score.
Kind professor, if you're feeling lost he's really good about replying to your emails and helping you. The labs all come with a step by step guide making them pretty simple.
One of the best Professors out there! If you have the chance to take him I would. Its all lectures, you just have to learn to pay attention. He tries to make everything interesting but sometones you can get bored. Test arent hard, he gives you practice tests/answers that are a lot like the real tests! Super funny and very sweet!
Dr. Secaur is wonderful! He is very fair in his tests and explains concepts very well in class. He cares a lot about his students and will do whatever it takes to give you a chance to succeed.
He was a wonderfull professor, humorous, kind and really nice. He is open to the students. Just one thing, he doesn't keep you in class when time ends so please don't pack up and stand up early until he say "See you in the next class".
Love love love Dr. Secaur. Science is not my strongest subject, so I didn't get an amazing grade, but I am glad that I took 7 Ideas. Dr. Secaur is the one of my favorite professors and I will miss him so much
Dr. Secaur is very knowledgeable and cares about his students. I had him for 7 Ideas and even though I dont like physics at all, he made the material easy to understand and his tests are all multiple choice. He is very nice and is always willing to help and answer questions. Lectures can be boring at times, but he does offer LOTS of extra credit.
Jon Secaur is a legend you can't beat him. He was born out of the womb being that cool the doctors almost went blind because of his sheer amazingness. His class is a fun to learn environment and I recommend you take his class 1000%. Jon makes science fun and makes lectures better with acts.
Dr. Secaur is such a wonderful professor. His lectures and class make you really think about the world. He is very smart and wants everyone to do well. He is extremely caring, understanding, and kind, especially during office hours. He is great at emailing back! One of the best professors on campus and he is much deserving of that title.
By far the best professor I've had at Kent State. He cares about his students, is extremely helpful out of class, and always was respectful. You could tell he really enjoys his job and has a passion for teaching and physics. If you get the chance, definitely take one of his classes.
Dr. Secaur is literally the best hes like a sweet old grandpa. He truly wants us to do well and understand Physics. He is SO accommodating and caring, a very rare professor. I hate math and physics but he was able to simplify things and make it interesting. When we moved online he handled it so well. He made videos for us and extended deadlines.
I LOVE DR. SECAUR! This is my second class I have taken with him and I'm so sad that I will not have him again :( Physics is my least favorite science, but I took physics because Dr. Secaur is amazing. He wants you to pass and will do anything to help. He even helps with the lab because he wrote that class too!! Love him
Jon is amazing! I have him for 7 Ideas That Shook the Universe. He is so helpful and very nice. I am not good at science but he makes it very easy! I definitely recommend taking any class with Jon. He sends us emails throughout the week about outer space and science-related topics which I am typically interested in and appreciate. Great guy.
Great professor and wished I could've taken this course in person. He's funny, engaging, and for someone who's not a big physics person, his lectures are easy to follow (for the most part). READ THE MATERIAL AND YOU'LL PASS. READ. Take the lab with it because they really go hand in hand and both professors are there to help if you need it.
He's a really great professor. He has been very lenient through physics being forced remote. Math/science courses aren't my favorite, but he's been very helpful. Take him if you can
This is my second time taking one of Dr. Secaur's courses and my second time leaving him a 5/5 rating. He is simply the best professor I have had so far at Kent State. You can tell he cares about both his students and the content in the course. He deserves every 5/5 rating he receives and I would leave him more if I could.
Jon Secaur is actually a man that we don't deserve, he is too pure for this world. His class is more focused on you understand and enjoying the content then it is being graded. Very enjoyable.
Secaur is a great guy who really tries to teach his students. I was really scared to take his class because I am bad at Physics, but he made the material easy to understand. He is a really kind professor and gets back with you very quickly. I would definitely take this class again.
Jon is amazing! I wish I could have taken his class in person but through lectures and emailing, I can say he is the purest and nicest man. Very understanding and not too concerned with deadlines; more so wants his students to learn and have fun with the material. I struggle with any science course, but Jon was very helpful this semester. 10/10!
Very very awesome professor. Not only does he make you like physics and actually help you understand it, he's lenient on deadlines and even let students take an exam again if they didn't get the grade they wanted. I wish I could've had him in person to see his crazy physics demonstrations but he did such a good job online. Best professor I've had.
All the homework answers are on chegg, same with most of the exam questions which is how I passed. He is really easy to reach. Always extended deadlines if I asked.
This man is great! He is sweet and understanding. All of the answers to his assignments are online somewhere but his material was still interesting enough that I would want to learn - and I am NOT a science person. He made everything interesting and I was excited to do his assignments. I wish I could have taken him in person.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!
One of the best professors! He's so funny and caring. When I emailed him about a homework question he emailed back in just minutes! I hate physics but his class was easy and made it kind of fun.
Very easy class. All course materials are online and can be done at your own speed, so I finished everything within 1 month. Each quiz has an infinite number of tries, so you can take it as many times as needed. Very interesting material and well taught. Would take again!
Took It online and finished the class within 2 months since he opens everything up at the beginning. Grade consists of quizzes (unlimited attempts) and lab/report. 7 units, but some are split into half. Interesting material, funny in his videos. Easy science credit.
The only regret I have is not being able to have him in person. The BEST professor at Kent State. In constant communication, helps you set up all the homework problems, sings to you, genuinely makes you laugh. Seriously, if you need to take physics, PLEASE pick this man. You won't regret it, I promise.
Jon is a funny guy and truly just wants you to pass. 7 Ideas is insanely easy and based only on unlimited retake quizzes and some homework assignments. You would have to try not to get an A in this class. He seems passionate and understands students needs. Absolutely gem of a professor.
Easiest class I have ever taken was Seven Ideas That Shook The Universe. I needed this course for my major and it was a breeze to get through. No due dates just have everything turned in before finals!
He is awesome! Very funny and teaches in a great way.
Wow. I just finished Dr. Secaur's online asynchronous course, 7 Ideas that Shook the Universe, and I am shook. The concepts in this course were so interesting to me, and even if you don't like physics, you'll do just fine. He's also the nicest guy and will answer any questions you have. Take this course before you graduate from Kent!
Best professor at Kent State. Makes physics, a super hard class, super easy to understand. So sad he's retiring, he is such a gem. So flexible and helpful :)
Secaur is the goat. the class was fully online and there was only like 10 homework assignments and like 5 quizzes. All work was taken late too with no grade penalty. His video lectures are really funny too. He was super chill whenever i emailed him about anything. A really good teacher and a good guy
Jon is a hidden gem! If you have to take Physics, see if you can take it with him. Homework is 40% of your grade while just showing up to every class is 20%, that alone should just tell you why. He is so nice as well and loves his job and loves teaching. The way the grading scale is set up is favorable for students to pass.
Awesome professor, cares a lot about his students and how they are doing. Very understanding and helpful.
All around really amazing. Works to make sures that his students understand the class. You will learn life lessons in this class. Would recommend him, test may be difficult but do not give up. I don't have a great understanding of physics (when it comes to the equations). But I still got a decent grade. Probably the best prof I've had.
Really amazing prof who makes sure students understand the material. Challenging tests but worth it - Unstuck study was a lifesaver for prep. Learned a ton of valuable lessons in this class.
Great teaching style, super interesting, explains hard concepts in an easy to understand way. Accepts late work, and overall just acknowledges that students have lives outside of classroom. Definitely would take him again. Great guy.
Doesn't respond to emails, rude, inconsiderate, too much course work, doesn't grade, rude TA's, not helpful, only good thing is easy work.
I'd highly recommend taking Physics with Dr. Secaur. His class has 3 days of lecture with a practice day. 3 tests, all multiple choice. He is kind, considerate, and flexible. He had no issue with me making up exams in his office. He has his own workbook which you'll need to buy. Show up to class, as roughly 20% of your grade comes from attendance.
Professor Secaur is amazing. I have never taken physics before so I was very worried. I had nothing to worry about. His lectures are so entertaining, his assignments were enjoyable, and he is so laid back. He does accept late work but will expect you to still be timely about it. His communication was steady and I really enjoyed his class.
