I usually have a pretty tough time writing papers, but he is there every step of the way and EXCITED to help students with whatever they need. If you want to get an A in the class nothing will stop you.
Very easy-going guy. Class was a lot of fun. Papers were pretty easy to write and he is very flexible on the subject matter.
I haven't even finished the class and I can already tell you that he is an awesome teacher. He lets you write about what YOU WANT! not some strict rigid paper about a reading on "blah" is the best font... He is an easy going guy with your best interest at heart. I highly suggest him as your English 200 teacher. I actually enjoy writing papers now.
He was a great teacher. He wanted his students to succeed and make a difference in their writing.
Attendance is mandatory but if you keep him talking, and ask questions frequently. Time flies right on by. He will every now and then go on insane tangents that are quite funny to listen to, and to participate in. His English 100 is a boat load of fun.
Jon is awesome. He cares a lot about his students and wants you to succeed. Hands down the best professor I have had. He lets you write about what you want. I am not a very good writer and I got a high A in the class. Great guy!
Great Professor! I hate english class but I really enjoyed it with him teaching. HE let us choose topics that we were interested in and didn't make us read articles that we didn't like.
He is an amazingly helpful professor. He will give you the overall topic but then after that anything is fair game. He will help you as much as you want. He even lets you redo your paper after the final copy until you get the grade you are happy with. He likes to engage the class and is very easy going. Highly recommend for English 200
Awesome teacher!! He is willing to work with you through any issues and actually cares to. If you are not happy with your grade on a paper he lets you resubmit it! His papers assigned have freedom attached so be prepared to think of your own topics to write about. Best English teacher I have ever had.
His feedback was excellent, & his passion for English & teaching was infectious. By far, this was the best English class I have ever had. He was funny & the discussions were engaging. Yet he pushed you to be a better writer without you even knowing it. He was easy on the eyes too. I wish I had him for English 200 instead of the droll I have now.
Shadden is simply the best English prof ever in UWRF. He looks freakingly young and has a child living in his soul. He understands what students want from an English class and turns dull material into interesting stuff. He is more like a buddy than a professor. Thanks for making this class interesting PAUL!!! ;)
Honestly one of the best professors at the school. I hated my English 100 professor. I've been told I'm a decent writer, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get a decent grade. His lectures are actually really interesting, he's a pretty humorous guy, but at the same time you learn a lot and he gives good feedback. Strongly recommended!
Shadden is one of the best Prof's I've ever had. He makes his class interesting and it is clear that he really cares about the material he is teaching. Highly recommend his class. I loved how he just gives you guidelines on your papers and lets you write about what you want. Seriously, take his class! You won't regret it.
Shadden is by far my favorite professor. Super funny, nice, gives good feedback, easy to get a hold of and grades fairly. I really could go on and on about how great this professor. English 100 with him is a wonderful transition course form high school English into college English. Sometimes goes on a tangent but they are usually pretty funny.
He was my favorite professor this semester! He is not a tough grader. He wants all of his students to improve! He lets you re-submit papers until you get the grade you want. He makes it clear that he is there for you. He wants everyone to improve and he is there to prepare you for future classes.
Jon is an amazing professor! We were assigned 4 papers which were very broad giving his students room to write about something they were passionate about or wanted to know more about. We were also allowed to revise our papers after his comments to get a better grade. Semi-weekly quizzes, but they were pretty easy.
My favorite professor! I usually hate english class and writing papers, but with him it was easy. If you weren't happy with your grade on a paper he lets you revise it and turn it in whenever you are finished revising. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A in this class. I had him at a different university, but he is the best so far!
There are only 5 papers assigned in this class, along with weekly quizzes and short prompt responses. While this class isn't necessarily easy, if you put in the work, you'll do fine! He allows resubmissions on papers and gives very clear feedback. He's always there to help you with your paper and genuinely wants to see you succeed!
Jon Shadden- WHAT A GUY. I have always excelled at english and he made my English 100 experience a breeze.. Assigns a lot of papers, but accepts revisions (saved my butt) and offers a lot of in-class help. Funny, understanding, and just a laid back kind of guy. Really wants his students to succeed. Not a tough grader. REQUEST IF POSSIBLE.
One of the things I liked about this class is that there is no good or bad... Just good and better. I was getting a C and he pushed me to get an A, and I feel like i EARNED it. Want this guy for English 200 BAD.
Professor Shadden was my favorite professor this semester. He is always looking out for the better of the student and will do anything to help you improve with your writing. He gets you prepared for ENG 200 and is a guy who enjoys a laugh while teaching. 10/10 would recommend and trying to get him for ENG 200!!
Jon Shadden was by far my favorite professor EVER! Normally I struggled in English and had a history of bad teachers, but Shadden made this my favorite class ever. He will help you if you have writer's block, he accepts revisions, and he loves what he does. He is a fun professor and I strongly suggest you take his class
He's alright, not my favorite English professor ever, but he did have some really good lectures. He does assign quite a few papers so be prepared for that. He likes to make you think outside the box a bit and if you don't do so hot on a paper he lets you resubmit for full credit.
He was such an amazing teacher! He really goes out of his way for his students! Lots of opportunitys to get an a in the class. He always lets you resubmit your papers as many times as you want till you get an A. Has a great sense of humor and is very helpful!
Shadden is the best professor I've had in college. He cares about how you're doing in the class and tries to make a boring class fun. He lets you re-submit if you aren't happy with your grade and tells you EXACTLY what to fix to make it up. Pop attendance extra credit points when the classes are empty.
I enjoyed this class a lot! Jon is a great professor who really cares about his students and his subject. I would definitely take this class again.
He was really understanding of the class and what we were going to major in, because our class wasn't english major heavy he taught us APA format instead which was sooo useful. He also gave us until the next paper due date to make revisions for full points. He's really easygoing and fun to learn from! If you take him ask him about the Cassie quiz .
I can't stress this enough, if you're taking English 200, take it with Shadden. He makes the class fun and easy to attend. If you don't like the grade you get on the papers he assigns, you can resubmit it until you get the grade you want. Teaches real life, relatable subjects. 10/10 would recommend.
Best professor I have had for any subject. He knows the material and cares about his students. He lets students write about things they want.
Shadden is an amazing teacher. He lets his students do as many resubmissions are you like.
Shadden is one of the most genuine professors you can have. Jon is one that knows the struggle of being a student and genuinely invests himself to help his peers become better writers, regardless of background or major. If you need to take an English 100 or 200, do your damndest to get it with Shadden.
Shadden is AMAZING! He's goofy and quirky, but overall a super nice caring guy. I would 100% recommend him to anyone. He allows any written work to be resubmitted (as many times as needed) and really wants his students to engage and improve. He teaches in APA format which is easy when you pick it up. When you need to take English 200 take Shadden!
Shadden's class was my favorite even though I am not a fan of English classes. Writing papers can be difficult but he gives you opportunity to improve, you can always resubmit papers multiple times until you get the grade you want. He is strict on what he needs to be strict on but overall he is super laid back.
Professor Shadden, its a good guy class its not easy, but i rather to take his class than other classes. I work hard for my grade. Professor Shadden its Gem good professor.
I would have a beer with the man.
Honestly he just cares about you doing well and he will totally help you succeed if you put in the effort.
TAKE SHADDENS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!! The best professor I have had at UWRF. He makes English 200 fun and although he doesnt take attendance people actually wanted to show up to his class because they were so engaging!
Shadden was by far one of the coolest professors I had. He made my first semester as a freshman very chill and not stressful. He cares a lot about his students and makes sure you reach your best potential. I would highly recommend taking his classes if you can!
He's super fun to learn from, super funny, and makes sure his students have ample opportunity to succeed in his course. I'd definitely take a class with Shadden again
One of the best professors I have had. He always makes his lectures fun and explains things in an easy way. Offers unlimited resubmissions on papers until you get the grade that you want. Also offers multiple extra credit assignments. Definitely would recommend.
Best professor you'll come across. Very understanding when it comes to extensions. Loves questions. Papers aren't easy, but he's willing to help you. You get points for assignments if you come to class, otherwise, you're excused. Feedback is incredible, he really wants you to do well, and if you try, you will.
I literally love Jon hes so honest and you can ask him anything looking at him makes my days better and hes overall the best professor Ive had I Stan Jon
little to no note taking, a lot of papers though
Shadden is an amazing professor! Your main assignments you will do is just typing out 5-8 page papers. He is an average grader but more on the easy side. Show up to class because he does in class activities that counts for credit. Overall, you will have a great time in his class and you can pass it easily.
One of the best English teachers I've had. Cares about what he's doing and likes to prepare fun activities for his students. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is important - he'll spring graded activities on you without prior notice, and if you miss them you can't make them up. Gives many opportunities for extra credit.
Shadden is one of the most laid-back professors I have had. I had a course overlap, and it was very easy to work through this with him. I have him for my HON190 course and will now be taking his ENGL200 next semester because of how great he is!
ENG99 Funny guy. He was involved in the class and easy to talk to. if you take this course use and abuse his knowledge to help you on assignments for English 100. he hates presentations but will turn the class into lecture if no one asks him questions. and show up. your graded on being there. but he understands if you can't make it or need a nap.
Super chill, honestly one of the best English professors I've ever had. The biggest assignments are the essays, but he has an unlimited retake policy and is happy to help if you have questions.
Professor Shadden is a very considerate professor and willing to meet outside of class. The lectures are long and usually boring, but the class is an easy A if you work a little for it. The papers have unlimited resubmissions which means you can keep turning them in until you get a grade you are satisfied with.
Very good professor just work hard and you will get an A But hard work gets the A
Shadden is one of the best professors I have. Don't use AI, and you'll do fine. I once watched him dive in the kinnickinnic river and save a drowning fish.
The most fowl teacher I've ever had. He. Will ramble on and on about how in his past life he was a space cowboy who saved the planet from being blown up by his nemesis space frog… I'm not kidding.. everyday you will be reminded of it… in fact as I'm writing this he is clipping his nails with pliers telling us about his story once again.
Professor Shadden is a great professor to have for your English classes. He's willing to help you with any assignments and has an unlimited resubmission policy. He likes to make snow angels every time it snows… even when it's just a flurry.
Shadden is an incredible professor, he's funny, joyful, and always quick with jokes. We've also witnessed him run into a burning building during a lecture, save a family of five with their pets himself, and then continue the lecture afterward. He also offers extra credit.
if you ask will bring mac and cheese to class and share with whoever wants
Jon Shadden does an excellent job wasting class time talking about past students. If you really want to know the "tea" on River Falls students, I would 100% recommend this class. One time he gave a whole lecture on how a student cried during his class. He did a great demonstration of the crying. Best day ever! Now we all cry in class for fun!
He is one of the most fun teachers that I had this semester, He would take us to Freddy's Dairy bar and buy ice cream for us, but there was a twist. He would buy us a second ice cream cone if we ate the first one in one bite. Lets just say everyone would get a brain freeze.
Pretty enjoyable professor, but very lecture heavy. However, Shadden makes the lectures enjoyable with his humor. One day after class, we walked out around the same time, and he helped a grandma cross the street. Then he stopped five robbers in a bank heist, and not even 10 minutes later, he saved 30+ orphans from a burning building. So amazing!
Shadden is a great professor, once he brought his pet eagle to school and had us helping Lily (the eagle) learn how to swim. Definitely a great experience!
Jon Shadden is a very good professor; he is caring and willing to help/ meet you outside of class. He has an unlimited resubmission policy on his essays, which is super nice. He will even demonstrate how you can use pliers to cut your nails in class. I will definitely take some of his classes again, not just to hear his sidetracked stories though.
Professor Shadden is one of the funniest professors I've met. I love how he gives us extra credit. He has us go outside in the cold while watching from the window. He always has his princess blanket and drinks hot cocoa. He even wears a princess crown each session. When you point it out, he says "I'm a queen, not some peasant like you."
While the 4.9 stars above may mislead you, he actually a lizard in disguise as a English professor. He would often hiss at students for getting the answers wrong, and his glowing eyes were very distracting in class. However it is a very easy class to pass, the trick is to sprinkle crickets on your paper and your guarantied an A+ every time.
He is a great professor, but his classes can get lecture heavy. He does offer extra credit in very normal ways. One time we watched him cartwheel all the way across campus. When he gets excited about things he often does backflips. If you can do a backflip, you will get extra credit too. He has a pet tortoise he brings to class every 3rd Wednesday.
Professor Shadden is awesome! Sometimes he likes to bake cookies and break dance at the same time. He only bakes in class if nobody acknowledges it. If we don't, he shares. He'll only breakdance while the mixer is going, and he lectures when he's not upside down. He's pretty cool.
Jon Shaffer is such a silly goose. Every day he walks in to class singing old McDonald with a big smile on his face. His class is always interesting and engaging although I do think it was a little strange when he made us watch him do his turkey impression and run down the hallway.
Professor Shadden is one of the funniest professors I've had. However, he has a weird obsession with NBA players. His whole room is covered in just the faces of NBA players. Every day he comes to class in a new player's shorts and jersey. He said if he were to ever meet LeBron he would marry him on the spot. Highly recommend professor Shadden.
Professor Shadden is a very kind professor. He was so kind that one day we had a very bad snow storm. He went out of his way to go salt and shovel the sidewalks. He did this because he didn't want the staff out in the cold. He then proceeded to lecture his classes after. He gave all his students hot coco that day as well! So sweet!
Professor Shadden is the silliest goose around. Usually, he spends the first 10 minutes of class each day showing us the new song he wrote on his stringed instrument - sometimes a banjo, sometimes a ukelele, and if he's feeling special, he'll break out the cello. If you bring him a jar of bread and butter pickles, you automatically pass the class.
Shadden is an amazing professor but it can be distracting when he's wearing a gorilla costume, something he does every other Friday. It's an odd and goofy obsession that he has, he even has little gorilla figurines all over his office. One time he came to class and read us a children's book about gorillas while he hung from the ceiling.
Shadden is an amazing professor. He really knows how to bring the energy to every class. Like that one time he road his bike into the classroom and asked the class if he should, quote, "hit this sick, awesome, totally tubular, rad, wheelie." He then provided to hit said wheelie and failed horribly. Then he lectured us on memes. What a guy!
Professor Shadden is one of the best professors I've ever had. He starts and ends the day with a cartwheel, leading to him falling on his face. Makes everyone laugh and proceeds to do this every day. He also attempts to cook in class, usually terribly, leading to burnt food and half his hair missing. Overall he is hilarious and I love this class.
Great class and professor; definitely would recommend to anybody. Should probably mention that he lets out a meow about every quarter of an hour, which is a bit odd but he's chill though.
Professor Jon Shadden is so silly. He talks to all of us about different things, like tv shows, or movies from the 1990s. He always comes to class, which is saying a lot because he lives in Big Lake, Minnesota. He told us that his celebrity crush when he was in college was Molly Ringwald, and he once had a pretend wedding where she was the bride.
Promised waffles. Where are my waffles? ):
Wiener Dog Will accept stickers as an answer on papers, INSPIRATIONAL
Great professor… chronically subs his toe. If only bionic arm was foot.
Shadden is an amazing professor! He does play his electric guitar with KISS every Wednesday and his pet alligator dances along to the songs, but it is still a very fun class! He also has magic powers and he hangs on the ceiling in his princess dress while he used his powers to give us all good grades.
College level class with high school(no AI and try)standards(in the best way). Possibly a clone. Extra credit and Chaos.
Jon Shadden is an excellent professor, however no matter what he tells you always know he is responsible for the death of a student's car (sorry Milo) and is indeed the reason the woman cried on the phone. That said, he did save a drowning fish by LEAPING into the DEPTHS of the Kinnicinic River.
He is funny, caring and let us retry paper as many time we are satisfied. he is easy and will work and help you on your paper.
10/10 professor. He's funny and really chill. He gives you papers but its an English class so like... thats expected. He doesn't do finals or midterms, he just gave us a "quiz" that was purely just extra points! Overall, super chill and laid back would take his class again :)
Favorite professor so far. He cares a lot about his students, and he's very funny.
